We have classified the 205 complaints from 2004 Ford F-150 about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
Ford really needs to take ownership of their window regulators...not only is this the fourth regulator i've replaced in my 2004 f150.....i've also replaced 1 window motor on the rear sliding window. other friends also have the same issue and it seems fords window regulator problems are not "car specific" but are "cheaply built" and expensive to purchase for consumers. my next car will be a toyota. *tr
When driving on the express way at 60mph, with children on the back seat, the passenger side door, the window fall down inside the door. we were below 50 degrees. child start to cry and scared me. this may cause an accident. i pulled over and change her to the other seat. could not close the window. the window regulator not functioning. dealer charges $150.00 to repair it. they say that it is a design failure on that part. *tr
Loud popping noise driver side window just fell down in the door while driving down the road to my house. i thought i was shot at or something if i had been in traffic i would have probably hit someone it scared me so bad. it was the failure of the window regulator. it seems ford knows they have a defective product on these regulators but has not recalled them. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. while driving 55 mph, the rear passenger side window suddenly slipped down into the door. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the window regulators failed and needed to be replaced entirely. the repair work was not performed at that time. five months later, the same failure occurred with the front passenger side window. he believes that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect, in which they should be responsible for the repair. the failure still persists. the failure mileage was 52,000 and current mileage was 57,900.
Window on ford f-150 fails or falls out of place. 3 of my 4 have had to be replaced in the past two years. *tr
2004 f150 supercrew problem: windows rolling down by themselves both rear window(rl & rr). cause: problem was traced to the window regulator, or fault of. the white plastic clip holding the end of the steel cables (next to the pulleys) broke off. one end broke off causing the window to slide down by gravity and friction when in motion (sometimes still - i.e. overnight). if unaware of the situation, like i was when it first happened to the rl window, i used the electronic switch on the driver door to pull the rlwindow up but could hear the motor (on the regulator) eating away at something. after opening up the door, i noticed that the cable was being mangled by the motor. two weeks later, the rr window had the exact same problem, the white plastic clip holding the end of the cable broke off from one end. other end already cracked and barely holding on. it turns out that the parts used are bad and need to be replaced, actually need to replace the entire regulator. this needs to be replaced before something bad happens (someone can vandalize my car, or... what if i get into a bad accident and my 4 and 2 year olds are in the truck with me. what's going to happen then? i don't want to find out.) i want them to be all regulators replaced because there is no recall and i believe they will eventually break off. two already did. they are a safety hazard. *tr
In the last 6 months there has been two separate incidents where the power window mechanism has broken and caused the window to be inoperable. this however is the fourth time this has happened. every window power window mechanism "regulator" on my 2004 ford f150 has broken all within a span of two years. it all started with the driver side rear, then the driver side front, then the passenger side front and now the passenger side rear. yesterday 01-21-2009 in the middle of the day while driving in the rain. the regulator gave out and the window came sliding all the way down, in the f150 the windows go all the way down into the door so the glass is all the way into the door pocket, there was not a way for me to manually pull the window up and secure it without removing the door panel. i was unable to roll it up at the time of the incident causing water damage to the interior of the vehicle, personal property and my son. my son was in a car seat in the rear till we were able to get home two hours later in the cold & rain. this is absolutely unacceptable and ford will take no responsibility for these faulty parts. four window mechanisms in two years on the same vehicle is not just coincidence. *tr
I own a 2004 ford f150 and i just had the second window regulator fail as i was driving to work. while driving i heard a loud pop and all the sudden the window just fell into the door frame. the first window regulator went out approx. 6 months ago and cost approx. $350 to fix through a local ford dealership. i am scheduled to take the vehicle in for service tomorrow to fix this problem. *tr
2004 ford f-150 driver side window won't roll up or down and slides down on it's own. *cn
power window regulators. *tr
Ford f150 lariat window glass fell out. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. while driving approximately 40 mph, the front driver's side window fell out of the frame. the risk of serious injury was increased. the dealer stated that she would have to replace the window regulator at the cost of $400. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer did not assist. the failure and current mileages were 45,000.
2004 ford f-150 side windows fall down. i have owned this truck less than 1 and a half years and have replaced two regulators to fix this problem. my concern is the danger of these windows when you are traveling along and they just fall down into door. concerned that a child will be hurt while in the vehicle because there is no warning, the window just falls and no more window. at that point you have no protection from the elements, how do you get safely off the road in a bad rain storm with no driver window or if a child would be in a child safety seat in inclement weather and you would be on a major highway. i know ford has remade this part several times but is not informing the public of this hazard. *tr
Driving down road at 70mph, went to open drivers window for ventilation and without warning the window just fell down into the door like a guillotine. i then proceeded to drive 12 miles in 20 degree weather with the window down to a repair shop. was informed the 2004 ford f150 power window failure is very common and that it would cost $400 to repair a broken plastic part because the entire unit must be replaced. i googled this issue and the internet is swamped with frustrated owners with have also experienced this particular failure. this is a serious safety issue that ford is not willing to address. *tr
In december 2007, the front passenger window fell into the door while rolling it up parked in the driveway. paid $369 to replace the window regulator. in january 2009, back passenger window fell into the door while driving down the highway with my 5 year old sitting next to the door. it is currently in the shop having the window regulator replaced. cost has not yet been determined. *tr
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 ford f150. while driving 40 mph the passenger side window slid down into the door. he stated the window was up at the time. he stated he tried to use the automatic button on the driver side to get the window back up but that did not work. he stated the window was still down in the door. he has called an authorized dealer and they advised him to repair the window the cost could be $424.00. the contact stated about a year and a half ago the driver's side window was repaired for the same failure. the contact was unable to provide a vin. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 86,020. vwb
Right front window on my 2004 supercab f-150 ford truck fell down and would not go up again (power windows) while driving. this is the second time a power window on this truck has failed. ford wants $450 to fix and this could have caused a crash as it just fell down as i drove down the road. this is a common problem that ford knows about but will not fix. see http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f-150/2004/windows_windshield/window_does_not_roll_up.shtml thank you. *tr
My wife was giving and heard a load noise like she just got hit or hit something. she pulled over and notice the window on the drivers side of our f150 supercrew had fallen into the door. nothing yet to fix it the part is 200.00 dollars alone without the cost of labor. and no old or used parts are available. *tr
2 window regulators have broken causing the window to drop into the door and not roll up in my 2004 ford f150 pickup truck. first time happened in july 2008 (driver's side), and the second time (front passenger side) just happened on january 3, 2009. both times while driving on interstate hwy while the windows were in the full up (closed) position. both times i heard a loud boom or pop and then the window proceeded to slide down into the door. a mechanic at the dealer has unofficially admitted to me that this is extremely common with my make/model and year and that it was his opinion this was a defect. i was able to have a friend repair the driver's window in july, but have not been able to financially afford to repair the passenger side yet. *tr
I have an 2004 ford f150 and over the approximately past 21 months i have had firstly the drivers window came down on its own, (i have a crew cab with 4 doors) then the right rear passenger window about 10 months ago and this week the left rear came down on it's own, (haven't got this one fixed yet) doing so this or next week. the repair cost me $330 approximately $90 labor and $200 plus for the part, i get no explanation as to why or relief over the cost from the dealer, i have not contacted ford directly yet. it is truly a safety issue no matter how you look at. each time, the window was up, i heard a click and down it came... i was not lowering the windows. i haven't lowered any except the repaired drivers door window since about 10 months ago when the right rear came down.. i only open the left front (drivers) and this includes the moon roof, i don't open that either for fear it will break. the ironic thing is all 3 came down without me touching the buttons to lower or raise them. i see below there is space for only 1 entry for "approximate incident date" so i will use the first one. two of these incidents were coming or going to my doctor for chemotherapy. i have cancer. *tr
2004 ford f150 driver's side power window regulator malfunctioned. *tr
04 ford f150 failed window regulator. window went down and won't go back up. this problem is common according to the ford dealership and costs 400.00 to fix. if this is a common problem due some design flaw it should be a recall by ford. http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f-150/2005/windows_windshield/power_window_regulator_failure.shtml. *tr
I have always been an avid ford pickup person and was shocked when my '04 model pickup drivers side window quit working....the more i research this subject the more i see that there is a serious problem that ford should address and they are offering no help, very expensive repair quotes, and the prices of the repair parts at the dealer are almost twice as high as you can get through internet sources. *tr
I own a 2004 ford f-150 super crew lariat: driver side window broke while at lunch, very loud noise and then window would not roll back up. had window regulator replaced (under extended warranty) in july of 2008...thought it was only an isolated incident. 6 months later, the same thing happened to the rear passenger window. repaired for another 100 dollars under warranty. this time window broke while the truck was parked in the driveway. i fear the other 2 windows will break now. i am surprised the glass has not shattered and have been fortunate that i was not on the freeway during either incident. it makes a very loud sound when it breaks. service guy at ford suggested i call ford customer satisfaction. spoke with rep and she has absolutely no record of this happening to anyone else yet the discussion boards on the web are full of 2004 ford truck owners with the same issue. i have owned fords for the last 25 years and have been happy with the quality. but something is obviously wrong with the design or the materials on the window mechanism. it's a $45,000 truck, 84,000 miles and i take perfect care of it. ford advertisements say it's built ford tough and i believe them but the windows should not break this easily and only after 4 years. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 ford f-150. the contact noticed that the front windows would open without warning and remain stuck in that position. the dealer was aware of the issue, but offered no assistance. the contact did not inform the manufacturer. the vehicle was not repaired. the current mileage was approximately 49,000. the failure mileage was approximately 37,000.
This is the third time one of the windows has fallen into the door of our ford f150 pickup. the window is paralyzed in the door frame after a regulator snaps and the window crashes into the door. the window will not roll up after this part breaks. each time this has occurred for us, it has been a different window. it is the regulator in the door for the rolling mechanism that snaps. we also very rarely open our windows because of the hot weather, so that did not cause it. it is ford using faulty parts on their vehicle. we were not hurt during any of the three occurrences, but this could be a potential danger for people while driving. *tr
I opened the driver's side front door of my 2004 ford f-150 with only 27,000 miles on the odometer and i heard a clunk sound in the door. the window was no longer in place and had fallen into the door. took the door panel off and confirmed that the window regulator had failed prematurely. it should last a whole lot longer than it did. i read online that this is a widespread problem, latent defect in the design, and ford will not fix it once the vehicle is out of its basic warranty. i need ford to recall the vehicle to fix this latent defect. *tr
While driving in a funeral processional in the rain my back passenger window just fell. my family were soaked, we did find a trashbag and taped it up but i missed part of my mother-in-law's funeral so my wife was upset beyond words. i thought that it just jumped the track but no such luck. so i ridged it up till i could take it to the shop. a month later my drivers front window fell while driving in 60 degree weather. i took it to the dealer and the warranty had just expired . $860.00 out of pocket. i went home and looked it up on the internet and found hundreds of complaints on this regulator that ford should take responsibility for and recall. other models has not had this problem. so as long as i own this truck i will have to drive around waiting for the next window to fall. *tr
3rd power window failure on ford f-150 supercrew pickup truck since purchased new in 2004. many others with the same complaint found on the following website: http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/f-150/2005/windows_windshield/power_window_regulator_failure.shtml. *tr
You need to recall the 2004 f150 power window regulators. i had both of the rear passenger regulators go bad (supercrew). i have replaced one already because the window went down by itself, would not go back up and the cable got all eaten up. did i mention that it went down on the highway and my 4 year old was in the back seat. my 2 year old is on the other side and her window had the same issue. the window is tuck in the shut position and have not messed with it yet. i am going to tell you that she is not riding in my truck because of the faulty equipment. i don't want to take my chances. please feel free to contact me should you have any questions. so far, i know 4 people who have replaced at least one (or more) regulators on their truck. *tr
My pregnant wife of 6 months was driving the 45 mile trip to home after work and her driver's side window popped and dropped. current temp outside was 30, and snowing. i decided not to tape a bag to cover the hole because if it were to come off while she was driving the truck and blow into her face, it might have caused an accident. i cut a template out of plexiglass instead and placed it in the window channel. this is great because i can use it over and over and it will fit nicely in the passenger window when it breaks. the day we took the truck down to get it fixed it was 13 degrees, and 70 miles later we were at the dealer. $400.00 later we were out the door with a new replacement that is no different than the old one with a design flaw. i did not know about this re-occurring problem when i bought the truck, and if i did i would have never purchased this ford f-150. you want a bail-out, sell and stand behind your product before you ask for support from the consumer. *tr
Sitting at a stoplight, hear a loud pop in drivers side door, drivers side window falls down into the door. took truck to the dealership and regulator assembly has failed - $450 for parts/labor. this has happened to numerous ford f150 owners and i'm afraid it will happen to my remaining windows. dangerous to have windows fail and collapse into your door at any moment - poorly engineered by ford - needs to be recalled. *tr
Arrived home from work and rolled up both the driver and passenger windows. i put up my sunshade, locked the doors, and walked up my driveway, hearing a "thump" behind me. when i turned around, my drivers side window was down. i attempted to roll it up again, and hear a "grinding" noise from the door, with no window movement. after disassembling the door, i found the window regulator is broken and there is cable wrapped all around it. i did some internet searches to see if anyone had information on repairs, and there is a lot of information, as this is a very common failure. given the loud noise and sudden drop of the window, i'm very glad this didn't occur as i was driving, it could very easily cause an accident. *tr
When the window cable breaks (the cable holding the window) the window falls down inside the door. this has happened to three windows on this vehicle in four years. there is no warning signs. the window just falls down. this is a safety issue if there is someone next to the window when it breaks. something could fly through and hit the person or child. this could also cause sever property damage if this occurred during a rain storm. personal property could be stolen out of the vehicle when the problem happens. there is no advance warning. you leave the vehicle with all windows and doors shut and locked, then return to the vehicle with a window completely gone. in order to repair the window the complete inside of the door has to be removed. most of the time the local ford dealer does not have the part on hand and has to order it. that causes difficulty since there usually is no way to secure the window without the cable. it is difficult to get anything inside the door to prop the window up and it is very unsafe for personal safety and property safety to drive without a window. it usually takes approximately $100 or more for the part and two hours to repair. it would make more sense to have the window lock in a closed position in order to secure personal and valuable items and secure personal safety. having the windows fall into the inside of the door is a safety issue for children and adults alike not to mention the property damage and expense of valuables lost that could occur. what if the vehicle is stolen when this happens? since it is a factory defect who is responsible. the vehicle owner took precautions and locked the vehicle with all windows shut, then the cable breaks and the window falls down. the vehicle is completely open to all kinds of damage even to the point of stolen completely at fault of the manufacturer. *tr
2004 f-150 window regulator failure, both rear and front driver side windows do not work and my vehicle only has 38,000 miles on it, both windows failed within 2 weeks of each other and the driver window failed when the vehicle was parked, the window fell down into the door so hard it set the car alarm off, had i been driving this could have been a significant distraction and safety hazard, ford refuses to acknowledge a problem with these window regulators but i have found numerous complaints/failures on the web where folks were driving and the window fell into the door and in some cases shattered. *tr
While taking my son to school, the rear passenger window motor made a loud popping/grinding noise, then the window sank down into the door. this happened once before to me (same noises in cold, rainy weather, both times) on my front passenger window. since it cost me almost $400 for the first window, i replaced the part (the entire regulator) myself this time. there is a little plastic piece that holds the wire in place that seems to have broke. when it did, the regulator got the wire wrapped up around it in a non-fixable condition. this is a major design defect that needs to be remedied. i still have the "bad" part if you need it for investigation. *tr
I own a 2004 ford f-150 4 door. i have had to replace all four power window regulators. two were still under warranty and the other two came out of my pocket. the dealership is aware of the problem but nothing has been done to help the customer. also, the transmission has a kicking problem at certain speeds. *tr
I was driving vehicle and went to crack the window on the drivers side and heard a loud pop and the window fell down into the door. it scared my wife to death and if she had been driving, she probably would have gotten into an accident. also, what if this had happened during a snow storm or severe rain storm. *tr
3 months ago my driver side window fell into the door frame. it was still under warranty so the dealership replaced the window regulator. last week the same thing happened to the passenger side window and i am no longer covered by warranty. it is apparent that this is a very common issue with 2004 ford f150's and ford should step up to the plate and recall these regulators. it is very irresponsible of ford to require their customers to pay for their faulty engineering. i was not even using the passenger side window when it fell into the door frame. *tr
On october 30th, after rolling down the passenger side power window, the window did not come back up. i had to remove the door panel and manually raise the window. i am in the process of trying to fix the defect and decided to add to the growing list of complaints concerning this mechanism. *tr
When i started to roll my window down it just dropped down all the way. tried rolling it up and it sounded like broken glass! i googled "repair power window on a ford 2005 f150" and low and behold i found "complaints.com" and was shocked to see all of the complaints on this very subject! ford is making a killing off owners by using cheap, breakable parts and by not recalling this yet! this should be recalled. my window sounded like someone shot me and it won't go up or down. i have less than 10,000 miles on this truck and found ford made clips that hold it in place. unfortunately, you can't replace the clips you have to replace the whole window regulator. the question is, how did this design ever get past qualification testing? ford's design engineers should be embarrassed to have made such a poor part. after calling our local ford dealer, the service department says, yes, this is a very common problem and they keep plenty of the regulators in stock! what can a person do. ford wonders why they are in trouble with sales. *tr
2004 f-150 4x4 drivers side power window failure. *tr
Passenger and driver side rear door power window glass fell inside the door without warning or provocation. regulator assembly was replaced 10/27/08 for passenger side for $304.83 and 10/21/09 for drivers side for $294.48 by local ford dealership. the first failure occurred during an lsu football game, we thought we had been robbed with the window broken, we were lucky nothing was stolen! second time was when my husband was driving in town in speeds of 0-45 mph, luckily he didn't crash due to the surprise of the noise and quick influx of air. i reported the first part failure to ford, their only response was a request to fill out a concern handling survey so i have taken this next step after a second part failure for the exact same thing. *tr
Driver side window fell into door while driving. ford dealer in yucca valley,ca tells us he repairs this issue 5 times a week sometimes 5 times a day. he tells us it wont happen again ford has changed the makeup of the part from plastic to metal.$360 repair. now window has scratch!could have been big safety issue,if traveling on freeway at 70 mph. sent concern to ford, they will take no responsibility, gave me your web address!!! *tr
The power window regulator has been replaced on the driver's door, the rear passenger door and now the front passenger window. *tr
Drivers side rear window fell to the floor with no warning. this is the third window regulator (only driver door remaining) that i have to replace in 4 months. all have failed in the same manner, where the cable connects to the plastic. it is a bad design, replacement is made from different material. ford is the only source for the replacement regulator $185 per unit. i contact ford dealer and he was not very helpful. he was going to provide 25% reduction in cost of $400 on repair. *tr
My ford f-150 rear driver side power window regulator went out and the window fell down in the door. i was sitting in the car with motor running waiting for my wife to come out of the store when this happened. it is the third window on this truck that i have had to replace a motor/power regulator on. the difference is the truck is no longer on warranty and now i am paying for it and the real window regulators are not available anywhere but the dealer. cost is a problem for the replacement as it seems to be about three times as high as a replacement for the front window which i can buy at any parts store. *tr
2004 f-150 crew cab 4-door, 77,000 miles. in the last 2 weeks, starting october 20, 2008, i have had 3 windows fall into the doors of my truck. windows effected are the rf, rr and lr. the first was the rt front passenger window which fell in the door while traveling on the interstate at 70 mph, at night and during a heavy rain. when i attempted to crack the window for air circulation, i heard a loud bang and the window fell all the way into the door causing me to swerve and nearly miss a vehicle in the next lane. the failure also soaked the interior of the truck and many items in the front seat. i had to continue driving in the rain for several miles to a gas station for a plastic bag because the door panel had to be removed to get the window back up. the rt rear was next followed by the lt rear windows. each window failed with a loud bank and slid into the door while attempting to roll down the window. all 3 windows are being held in the up position by wedging screw drivers between the door and window. 3 windows in less than 2 weeks! the estimated cost for repair is 1500 dollars which i cannot afford. this poses not only a safety issue but also a security issue. judging from the frequency of complaints on these window assemblies, ford needs to take responsibility for replacing, through a recall, these faulty window assemblies. *tr
Front driver side window had broken plastic part a year ago that had to be replaced. this week rear passenger side did the same thing and three days later the front passenger side broke as well. auto shop says the entire system for each window will have to be replaced. *tr
Power window mechanism fails causing the window to fall into the door. i have seen many posts on it on complaints.com. the clip holding the cables are faulty causing the cable to pull through. then you are stuck with the window in the down position. looks to be a common issue tons of complaints about it. *tr
