Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2006 Ford Freestyle

My car wouldn't accelerate on getting on the interstate and would only go up to 40 mph - hard to get in from the ramp with other oncoming cars. it started surging and bucking. when i got off the interstate at the next interstate it again surged when i was going 20mph. very scary for me. when i stopped at the stoplight it stalled and i had trouble starting it. i put my hazards on for the rest of the trip home. i have been scared to drive it. i took it to the ford dealer and they said it was the throttle body and estimated $700 for the part and $200 for labor. i have had surging issues this past summer when i used the defrost or air conditioning but not anything this bad. i did call the ford company and have a case number - they would not help with the part or labor. i spoke with a manager...

The accelerator pedal is unresponsive and the vehicle will move very slowly at first, then unpredictably lunge forward at higher speeds. occasionally the pedal will immediately respond with rapid acceleration when lightly touched, causing the tires to spin out while taking off from a stop. altering the way pressure is applied to the accelerator has no effect. this has been happening for over 3 months without any check engine indicators, and only recently when the vehicle had trouble idling did a check engine light come on. the vehicle has been well maintained and lightly driven.

My car stalls, and lunges forwards or backs suddenly even if i'm pressing the brake.

I just bought this 2006 ford freestyle and have almost had 4 wrecks this week! it just surges randomly in the school pick up line redlights parking lots and stop signs im scared for my familys safety.i dont know what to do i paid alot of money for this car from an indivdual

I put my car in reverse and the speed increased while i had my foot on the brake, i changed gears to drive and it did not increase on its own. once again on reverse and had another sudden increase of speed while my foot was on the brake. if i wasn't careful it could have caused an accident.

When letting up on my brake pedal from a stop my car will randomly accelerate and lunge forward. this problem has been going on since 2017. this problem seems to effect many freestyle owners, and is a safety concern for my family.

Hello, i was driving 60 mph on us highway 2, driving from snohomish, wa to monroe, wa, which is a 2 lane highway with no median (death highway) suddenly, the car seemed to lunge and i lost acceleration with the yellow service wrench dash light coming on. my speed significantly decreased and the car pulled at the same time. rpm's jumped to 5000+ but i was dropping speed. i avoided the car coming up behind me and the oncoming traffic by quickly pulling into an area on the side of the highway. this was a very scary experience that could have turned out very badly if i would have been hit from behind and pushed into oncoming traffic. i sat on the side of the road, stunned for 5-10 minutes, not knowing what happened. it had also happened once earlier that day at much lower speeds and then seemed to reset itself. again the wrench light reset and i was able to pull out onto the highway and drive to a transmission shop for diagnosis. as of now, i don't know exactly what the damage may be other than i'm being told it's a bad transmission and that i need a new one, with really no guarantee that the same thing won't happen again. since this incident i have done a great deal of research on this car and specifically the 05-07 ford freestyle with this cvt. it is nothing but problems how can ford get away this and why hasn't this transmission been recalled and ford made to finally resolve the issue safely or made to reimburse all affected parties the purchase price of the severely unsafe vehicle. i am thankful that i had a place to turn off, rather than the potential of an accident on that highway!! no physical injury, but definitely an emotionally charged event!! thank you. Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving 70 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle went into limp mode. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the throttle body was replaced; however, the failure recurred. joe machens capital city ford (located at 807 southwest blvd, jefferson city, mo 65109, (855) 929-5900) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 194,000.

My car surges and the rpms move without touching the gas. it tries to throw me into traffic when at stoplights and stop signs. it tries to throw me at people when driving slowly through parking lots. i have to put my car into neutral while at stops so that my family or other family's don't die because of a malfunction that ford had with the car when they sold it. i was never told about the malfunction and they say i'm years past the warenty and 20000 miles past the warenty milage. so because my car is 20000 over i guess it's okay for my car to kill me and my children or other people?

This car has many problems. i wouldn't buy this car again. i have invested too much money for repairs. the air bag sensor keeps coming on. the car has no speed after i had the transmission replaced. the lights on dash are off and on.

Upon utilizing the drive through of a fast food restaurant, the breaks were being feathered to creep up to the window; the 2006 ford freestyle lunged forward unexpectedly and almost hit a women and her kid crossing in front of the car; i moved the car from the drive through and stopped at the edge of the parking lot before continuing onto the side street; at this time when i moved my foot off the break the car again unexpectedly lunged forward sticking the nose of my car out into traffic, cars swerved into the far lane to avoid colliding with the front of my car. i immediately brought the car to the ford service dealer. upon arriving at the ford dealership it was diagnosed that the throttle body was failing, additional research revealed that ford issue an extended warranty for a cleaning of the throttle body; however the dealership indicated that the throttle body needed to be replaced as it is faulty, the cleaning wouldn't suffice.

Long story short....my vehicle will increase throttle on it's own when sitting at a light in traffic or without traffic. sometimes when i release the brake to take off it will throttle up just before and then stall out. i am only able to restart the car if i turn of the air conditioning. today as with many other days, the throttle increased while attempting to slowly back out of a parking space. i slammed on the brakes to get the car to stop as the throttle contiued to increase and then stall out. i have noticed severely increasing incidents of this happening and am scared to drive my car. i have no other options. please help me with this issue. i don't want to die or kill someone else because the car seems to have a mind of its own and my efforts to control the car are futile at times.

The car completely turn off while driving on the freeway. there is also a feel of power lost on take off while.driving. and i have read there's been concerns about the throttle body malfunction.

We have a 2006 ford freestyle i was driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour and the car lost all power. i pulled over shut the car off and than say awhile and started back up and it started going again fine. a few miles down the road it did the same. thank god i was near a auto body shop after pulling over 6 times anyway mechanic said that the throttle body is bad. i looked this up and noticed there was a major issues with ford and this part. as far as i know there has not been a recall when we asked. but i have seen many complaints about this is many cars. this is very dangerous and lots have complained about the safety. as you have no idea that the car will randomly stop. i could have been killed on that highway. somoene needs to do something about this!

Driving down the interstate in traffic the engine stalls wrench light came on, leaving me with no power to control my speed. as my car quickly reduces speed on a major interstate i attempt to get over to the shoulder out of harms way. this is happened 4 times, the latest time our check engine light came on and stays on. p2104, p2100, p2112, and p0325 codes are present. i have seen ford has recalled 1.6 million electronic throttle body in ford escape, mercury mariner, and mercury milan vehicles with the same 3.0l engine and same electronic throttle body. all ford has to do is to list the ford freestyle as one of these recall vehicles for the etb to be repaired/replaced. this is a very scary situation to be in with children in the car and you have no power to you accelerator to get out of the way of speeding vehicles all around you!! i don't know what to do, very expensive to replace the etb. *tr

Vehicle speed decelerated and wrench light came on took to ford dealership (on vacation trip) had to leave the vehicle as they said needed new throttle body----at approx. 103,767 mi. approx 107,178 miles speed decelerated on trip and wrench light came on.when turn the vehicle off wrench light goes off and desired speed can be resumed. took to ford dealer and said they could put in new "brain" or new transmission. took vehicle to mechanic for second opinion and they said it was transmission and suggested taking to transmission specialist. transmission specialist agreed transmission had to be replaced.the vehicle was taken out several times by these mechanics and verified that it was shifting okay and okay to drive. left the mechanic place of business and was sitting stopped at a traffic signal with foot on brake pedal and vehicle lurched forward and rammed the car in front of the vehicle. looking for another vehicle and so scared to drive this anywhere. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. while driving at approximately 60 mph, there was a sudden increase of engine rpms and the vehicle accelerated independently. the vehicle was merged over to the side of the road, where it was turned off and restarted in order to continue driving home. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 137,000.

The vehicle lunged twice while i went from park to drive. i immediately put my foot on the brake to avoid hitting the car in front of me as i was in carline picking up my children from private school. on 8-23-14 as i was in reverse pulling out from a parking space, the vehicle lunged backwards and lost power. i turned off the engine . i started the engine and began to drive the vehicle which felt as if it was losing power. i continued to drive 2 miles home and prayed the entire time that i would make it safely. after doing research, we discovered the nhtsa action number pe11018. we were never notified of this recall and feel that ford should reimburse owners of all monies spent on the defective throttle body system. so far we have spent $600. *tr

Engine surges at idle speed , and when taking corners. it is also worse when air conditioner is on. very dangerous condition when not expected. i had it looked at by my local ford dealer, but it has continued.ford so called cleaning of throttle body did nothing to alleviate the problem. *tr

As i was driving to take my children to school i was pulling forward on a parking spot and all of a sudden it started accelerating like if i was pushing the gas but i was not i was pushing on the brake. on a separate occasion i was going to the store with my children and the same thing happen i was about to pull into a parking spot and it started plunging forward i was pressing on the brake and it wouldn't do a thing. this issue has been happening for about a month. the wrench light comes on and when i turn of the car it disappears so when i take it to a mechanic they don't find anything wrong with it i did research with the ford freestyle and their is a lot of people with this same issue, they all say about the throttle. i'm very concern that one of this day something worst may happen and i'm with my children please do something about this before something worst happens to people. *tr

I had just started the engine, a/c on,and was attempting to back out of a parking stall.the vehicle seemed to be working normal.engine temp-normal,fuel-3/4 full, no indicator lights were on, engine rpms about 750. with my foot firmly on the service brake pedal,i put the transmission into reverse.the vehicle powered backwards about 5 feet and i began to turn the vehicle towards the right.the engine speed immediately raised, but my foot was hovering above the brake pedal & not touching the accelerator pedal.i stomped hard on the brake pedal to avoid hitting the vehicles parked beside & directly behind me.the vehicle stopped after powering backwards another 5 feet after applying the service brakes.no collision occured.i immediately looked at the dashboard and saw the rpms were at 2250+ while trans still in reverse & service brakes fully applied.i shutoff the engine while trans in reverse and then moved trans into park. a loud click was heard coming from the hood area and the vehicle lunged forward. *tr

Vehicle lurches when brakes are applied in forward and reverse. happened many times. the wrench indicator light came on also when this happened. this happened many times when we first purchased the vehicle. i checks threads on the internet and saw this as a common problem. i personally cleaned the throttle body as shown on youtube by a gentleman and it fixed the problem for awhile. this happened recently to my wife as she was leaving her work parking lot at low speed. lurched when put in gear with brakes applied. car felt uncontrollable. we see that an investigation on this problem has begun so i would confer with other vehicle owners. more times and dates than i can remember that lurching has taken place. one time i had to slip it into neutral to stop the car and apply the brakes. *tr

I filed a complaint about 2 years ago regarding my vehicle lunging forward. i received a notice to bring my car the ford dealership for throttle body repair. since taking my vehicle into the dealership for repairs i have noticed that my vehicle is hesitating. when you press on the accelerator the vehicle does not increase speed more than 8 to 10 miles when you push the accelerator to the floor. i have taken this vehicle to 2 different dealership that specialize in ford product but not the ford dealership. i have been told that my transmission needs to be rebuilt and i was told at another dealership that it was in desperate need of replacing or rebuilding. i feel as though ford knows the problems that the owners are facing and need to step their game up. i have another year and a half before this vehicle will be paid in full. i feel at this point that ford assembled all of these vehicles and should be held accountable for selling these lemons. when you start looking at complaint after complaint from different customers all over the world then you know there is a bigger problem. i feel all the money that i have invested and still investing to save my credit has turned me away from ford vehicles of any kind at this point. *tr

Was going home after visiting with a friend and on way back was driving normal speed limit on i75 north (65mph) when all of a sudden the car would not accelerate and ac started blowing warm, the wrench light came on. the car was still running but very poorly. i had to carefully get over into the right lane and drove on the side of the interstate to get off at the visible off ramp just a few yards away. i was able to get the car up to a mcdonalds at the top of the ramp. i shut it off and decided to go inside and eat. about 25~30 minutes later, i decided to try and start the car and see what would happen, the car started right up, everything worked as normal, no warning lights at all. we drove it the last 2 hours home without any concerns. we ran a code tester on the car the next day and nothing came up. that was in september 2013. almost a year later, this september 2014, i had the same thing happen again, but i do not remember the light coming on this time and it happened after only driving the car 6 miles to my local home depot. again once i got back into the car after about 45 minutes, everything seemed to be operating normal again. this is normally my wife's grandson mobile, she now says that there is opportunities with surging while stopping and taking off and the ac is blowing warm when she is at stops or not driving with engine running. i read a couple forums about why the ac may be acting up but this doesn't explain the limp mode thing and the new surging going on. we have no engine or warning lights at all. i will tell you i test drove it after her concerns and they are real, the surging thing is a concern and i don't like her driving it. at a local garage guys said it sounds like its that "ford's" problem, but don't see recall for this vehicle....is this a ford problem that is known? i can't spend a lot of money trying to find the root cause. *tr

When it had the air condition on i kept jumping. i was scared it was going hit another car. then i was on the expressway going 60 trying to pass a semi to get over and to get off and the car lost all power (shut off)omg panic. started it up about 10 times before i got it back home. *tr

As of this part friday, i had the motor mount torque insert replaced. there was bad shifting, lunging & loss of gas mileage for the past few months. i have noticed that this was not happening in the cooler weather; just since it has gotten hotter & having to run the a/c on maximum. the car was lunging by itself in reverse & drive. drove it home; did great. ran alot of errands today & the emission/transmission light came on; vehicle stalled, no compression. a bit of whining (transmission issues) i will get it into the mechanic monday a.m., but from previous comments from other owners, this is a common problem. again, definitely not a good thing w/a 2 1/2 year old in the vehicle almost all the time. checked to see if any recalls & ford says nothing. looks as though the last update was in the end of 2012. maybe ford is going to pull this together & take care of business. this is a great car other than that. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technicians stated that the throttle body would have to be cleaned under a voluntary recall. after the repair, the contact experienced hesitation while accelerating. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 143,000. mah

Experienced a drop in throttle response going through a curve/intersection and reduced power...pulled to the side of the road...switched off ignition and restarted. *tr had experienced the same situation over the past three months and found a ford recall to clean the throttle body and reprogram the controller. dealership now tells me that the repair is to replace the throttle body at a cost of over $800

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. the contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle lunged forward unexpectedly. the failure recurred three times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who was unable to duplicate the problem. the technician offered to clean the throttle at their expense. the vehicle had not been repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 98,862. returned by usps on 9/10/2013. 2nd attempt on 9/12/2013 failed. *kb

Vehicle was parked for approximately 15mins, sitting idle. i shifted to reverse and slowly released brake pedal. vehicle rpms surged to ~2000rpm and vehicle accelerated in the reverse direction rapidly. vehicle was halted by a hard brake response. i nearly collided with another vehicle. leaving the vehicle in reverse and holding the brake firmly, rpms oscillated between 800-2000 repetitively (approximately 1-2 seconds per oscillation). vehicle eventually stalled. i have noticed this behavior frequently, and found it can occur in the forward or reverse directions. fords claim that rpm only flares ~1300 in worst case is false. the claim that a the vehicle will only accelerate to 4 mph is false. the acceleration experienced by this flaw is very acute and could easily result in injury and/or death; especially given the aggravating factor that it occurs most frequently in low speed areas (driveways, parking lots with pedestrians, traffic stops, etc...). *tr
