Problems with 2006 Ford Freestyle VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

The car started lunging i was going about 25 mph then the rpm's rc..accelerated and speed reduced. my rpm was at 6 or 7000 but could only go twenty. i have two kids they were in the car very dangerous. get to my home turn off the car after about 20 minutes i get my husband to look at it and it is not doing anything anymore. the car was fine for about two weeks, then out of no where no signs or problems at the moment the car stalls out will not go anywhere. towed it to the ford place they tell me it is the transmission it will cost $6700 this is my families only transportation. we have one vehicle. we can not afford to get it fixed or afford another car. we have been stuck walking everywhere. i think ford should have to do something about this.. they would not even take a payment plan to try to get it fixed....please help! *tr

While stopped at a traffic light, parking lot (not in park) or drive through the vehicle frequently lunges forward (or backward if in reverse). applying brakes stops this, but we never know when it's going to lunge and we've had several close calls where we almost hit other vehicles. *tr

This makes the second time i have complained about this problem. it seems that ford has no plans to rectify the "throttle body" issue although there are many that have voiced the same concern with their vehicles. this issue is a severe safety risk. i have had several incidences, all involving surging, followed by a sudden loss of power. there have also been instances of sudden loss of power upon acceleration after idling at a stop sign or red light. this happens randomly and there is no warning beforehand. once, i was passing a truck and pulled into the passing lane and the freestyle completely lost power. i was "hanging" in the passing lane with no power and no way to avert a collision had there been oncoming traffic or traffic behind me. thank goodness, i had time to brake and force the freestyle onto the shoulder. this also happenes at stop signs and red lights when i accelerate. very dangerous.

When driving at low speeds the car will lunge forward on its own. it is usually when pulling out of a parking space or pulling up to a stop sign. this happens when you are not pressing on the gas at all but lunges forward on its own. when driving at a high speed it does the opposite and the emergency brake/parking brake tries to engage. for instance i was going 60 mph on the highway and the abs and parking brake light came on, the speedometer dropped to 0, and the rpms revved up. my foot was on the gas the entire time yet the vehicle kept pulling back like it was trying to engage the brakes. *tr

Throttle accelerating while brakes are applied lunging forward shutting off trouble getting up hills trying to accelerate but won't go past 30 mph transmission light is on wrench light is on traction control light is on. *tr

Vehicle surges when idling or going slow. accelerates at times like parking or moving through parking lots or when stopped at stoplights. *kb

When pulling out of my driveway the car would not accelerate, seemed to not have any power. then when placing my foot on the brake at a stop sign it surged forward. it was really scary and had there been traffic, i would have been hit broad side, as i felt i couldn't control the car. the wrench light came on, and as i drove my son to school, the car continued to either have no power or was surging forward, i called my local dealer where i had just had the cvt transmission replaced in september, and asked to bring it in. they diagnosed it as a throttle body problem, and replaced it. i had asked about this when the transmission was replaced, and they had told me they didn't know about any problems. oh please!!!!!! i've also had two very dangerous tire blow outs, and after some research see that unusual inside tire wear has also been a problem on freestyles due to the sway bar links. now tomorrow.... i am back at the dealer for the engine mount, yet another repeat problem that needs to be recalled. please help us get these dangerous cars recalled and repaired! *tr

My husband used the cruise control on the highway and experienced a loss of power. we are unable to use the cruise control at all. this is also a problem when getting on the highway or passing. trying to pass can be terrifying when you are in the left hand lane and lose power,you have to find a way to pull to the right hand lane ,get off the road, and shut off the engine.when you start back up you have power again. i know that we are not the only ones with this problem i also know that they have had a recall for the same problem with a different model. *tr

Lost power from the engine causing lost speed. unable to accelerate. engine sputtered. since the first episode, i have had continued episodes. typically worse when the engine warms up. car completely stopped and was unable to restart the engine on a trip of about 75 miles. had to have the car towed to a local dealership. we have replaced ignition coil, spark plug, intake manifold gaskets, throttle body assembly without improvement of the condition. *tr

My car speeds up with out any warning when in reverse. so far i have been lucky and only scraped the front bumper on the garage door. two different ford dealers cannot find a reason for this problem. *tr

Good day, while driving my vehicle the vehicle stopped, pushed to the side and tried starting. it never fully recovered the speed, i was able to make it down to the gas station, where i talked to someone and i had to make it into the dealership. even though this is my first time. there has been jerking in the past, pedal sticking, and acceleration of the vehicle. now there are work issues and no one has the money to buy another car, and from searching this site and others, there are quite a few complaints. it would be wonderful if they would fix the problem, seeing as they stopped making the car after 2006, and there are very few parts. this van has some issues, and the dealership i took it too wants to charge me for experimentation on my car, throttle body, and they said if it was not the throttle body, then it was the transmission. i want to understand this because i thought all dealership are suppose to be honest and let people know what is really going on. they did not tell me any of this and they still want to charge me 8,000 dollars, and it is a rip-off. more people need to write in about this vehicle and the ford and the transportation division needs to be held responsible, for taking great peoples hard earned money, have a great day. *kb

I was parked with car running for about 10 mins. when i went to back up the car, the car lunged backwards while my foot was still engaged on the brake. car stalled but i was able to re-start car. wrench and engine lights were on. i drove the car home but the fuel injection was labored and did not accelerate normally and would also accelerate unexpectedly while sitting at traffic light. i was able to get the car home, but check engine light was still lit after several days. *tr

My 2006 ford freestyle has had this happen before and now it is happening again. the car will lunge forward at low speeds. when this occurred before the dealership replaced the throttle body and it cost about $700. here almost two years later, it is doing it again. there is no way of knowing when it will do it, and is a major safety hazard. i cannot afford to pay to replace this part every other year. from reading online forums, it seems to be a major problem with this vehicle. ford needs to take responsibility and find a fix that will not happen again. yet ford does nothing about it!! *tr

On several occasions while i was driving in route to work or the grocery store, my 06 ford freestyle seemed slow and sluggish to respond as i would be waiting at a red light for the green. when the light did turn green and i would press the gas pedal to go, the car would shut off. a few times there were close calls as the car behind me would be unaware i was having trouble and almost rear-end me. when the car would cut off, i would proceed to restart the car and then press the gas to go. the car seemed to respond extremely slow like i would have the gas pedal pressed to the floor and would only be able to go 20 - 25 mph. on other occasions, the car would seem to lurch forward or backward (depending on if i had the car in drive or reverse) the throttle body failure on my 2006 ford freestyle creates a very dangerous situation because the engine will accelerate without applying the gas pedaland will no accelerate at times when the gas pedal is pressed. after a little research i found this to be arecurring problem on 2006, and 2007 ford freestyle vehicles. ford is or should be well aware the proble exist and has for some time and has done nothing about it , to add insult to injury my car has been at the ford dealership for over a month because the parts needed to repair it [ throttlebody ] is not availiable and no one can tell me for sure when it will be people at ford tell me that the company making the part went out of bussiness without notice, well needless to say this does not help my situation, i have notified my state and federal highway safety commishners of the problem and i would like to ask everyone with a similar problem to do the same. *tr

Can be driving any speed or stopped and lose ability to accelerate. have to pull over turn ignition off and restart the car, problem fixed for a little while, frequently while merging to an e way, or hilly areas, ford mechanics have looked at car and cant tell us what is wrong, people who engineered car have looked at it and cant give an answer. due to problems with car we owe more than it is worth now and cant trade in with recurring problem. ford needs to step up and handle this problem. *tr

I purchased my 2006 ford freestyle as a used vehicle in 8/2011. i have had nothing but problem after problem with this vehicle. it started with ac issue in 9/2011. then surging/braking issues off and on for almost a year. i couldn't get the dealership where i purchases it or an actual ford dealership to repair the surging/braking issue because they couldn't get the problem to repeat when i brought it in. it wasn't until i received the service letter for this issue that my complaint was justified and the recommended repairs where done as per stated by the manufacturer letter. this repair wasn't done until 1/2013. during that time i have also had to replace the water pump and harmonize balancer. now, 5/2013 my torque converter and/or cvt is going out. basically, all the complaints that are out there on this vehicle i have the misfortune of being all in this one vehicle. i wish there was a recall on this vehicle because i desperately need out of this money trap and owe more on it than it's worth. please help soon to be stranded single mom of 3. *tr

I'm having the same problems as i've seen in many of the complaints that are already posted within your site. when you put the ford freestyle in reverse it will lunge very quickly and when you apply the brakes it will stall out. this also happens when its in gear and worries me since this is the car my 17 year old drives while attending school states away. i just had the throttle body replaced which was a wasted $380.00 as the car still lunges. car is sitting in the yard not knowing what to do with it. i would like to know what ford is doing about this problem. is it a transmission problem, torque converter or electrical harness? what's the fix. seems that someone should know and ford needs to take action before someone gets killed. *tr

During hot weather, on multiple occasions, my newly-purchased 2006 ford freestyle will "lunge" wildly when initially placed in either reverse or drive, requiring heavy application of the brakes to keep it from running away. the vehicle has a "wrench" light (indicating a powertrain or transmission fault) and an "engine" light (i.e., check engine) which both come on when this occurs. typically turning the ignition off and restarting the car will temporarily resolve the problem, however occasionally the check engine light will remain on while driving for a day or so afterward. this behavior has not been exhibiting itself since the weather turned cooler. i don't know what difference that makes, but it does seem to make some difference. *tr

My wife was coming home from work, she went to park the car outside in front of our porch where she normally parks at. she still had her foot on the brake and was getting ready to switch gears when the car accelerated and went over our flowerpot and into my porch braking a few boards and scratching the front of my car. this is not the first time it has accelerated on us while not suppose to. when i bought the car in august 2011 we took it to myrtle beach for a week, while in myrtle beach the car would try to take off and/or die while at low speeds with the a/c on. the problem almost caused us to hit a pedestrian. this car is very unsafe, and really needs the problem fixed. *tr

2006 ford freestyle while driving on highway (60+ mph) engine feels as though it is in neutral. push on gas pedal, rpms rev up to 4k-5k and car does not accelerate. wrench light illuminates and need to pull car over to restart it. car works fine after restarting for a bit, and then will act up again. have read multiple reports of this happening to same vehicle so it is currently at the mechanic to have the throttle body cleaned to see if this resolves issue. *tr

My 2006 ford freestyle limited has major electrical problems. i have had the car lunge on me, at 0mph it would lunge forward, and in reverse. fortunately i had my foot on the brake every time. i don't think it is the transmission. i have a feeling that it is all electrical. i have had the lunging problem since last year. (2011) and the car has been deteriorating since. yesterday i got "check charging system" and now it kills all of the lights and gauges... yet it still kind of ran.(not very good up hill, and no indicator lights, no speedometer nothing.)another recent problem i have is the center engine (shock?)mount is busted. *tr

My auto serviceman found my throttle body to be faulty. he mentioned a service report was published by ford due to the number of failures ford was having with this part.

My 2006 ford freestyle accelerated in reverse when my foot was not engaging the gas pedal. it then lurched forward before stalling out. i have complained to the ford dealership about unusual performance especially at parking lot speeds. they are never able to diagnose a problem. today, it lunged in reverse while backing out of a parking space. it then stalled out. i finally got it to crank back up. then it lunged forward out of control approximately 5 to 10 feet. i got it to drive, but it would not accelerate without having my foot all the way down. it would hardly make it up a hill and then lunge at the top of the hill acting like it was going to stall out again. i have lost all confidence in my car and fear for the safety of my children. *tt

Beginning about august of 2011 my car started to suddenly "jump" forward even if my foot was not on the accelerator and even when my foot was on the brake. i was able to apply my brakes hard enough to make it stop and i immediately put the car in park. it happened at least 2 more times in the week that followed. i had a friend look at the car, but then it did not start to do it again until this week. several times the car jolted forward once i even had my foot firmly on the brake. i had to really push on the brake as i put the car in park to keep from hitting the car immediately in front of me. each time i was able to step on the brakes and put the car in park. even in park the engine would rev to higher than usual rpms. i turned the car off and started it again to see if that would correct the issue. but a short time later it did the same thing. then finally, my car died and i had a hard time starting it again. when it did start, i had a hard time trying to get it to drive. it was in gear, but it did not want to go forward, almost as if it was fighting the acceleration. i got it home and parked it. i will be taking my car to a ford dealer this week to be looked at. but, when i did some research on the problem, i found there have been similar complaints so i wanted to make sure you were aware of mine as well. do i have any recourse about the issue and the repair that will be required? *tr

We purchased a 2006 ford freestyle on wednesday august 3rd, 2011. acceleration seemed "off" but since we had been driving a minivan, we and the dealer put it off as more "get up and go." problem persisted with each time the vehicle was driven and we became concerned. wednesday august 10th, as we pulled into a parking spot, engine revved and car surged forward very forcefully, almost making us hit the car in the spot ahead of us. no feet or other objects came into contact with either pedal at time of incident. my 3 children were in the car. this is very concerning to us. vehicle is currently in the shop and will not be driven off the lot until loan is forgiven on account of us being sold a faulty and unsafe vehicle. on the way to repair shop, steering wheel locked up, entire car shook, engine accelerated without any pressure on either pedal. *tr

In hot weather, the car will rev like the gas pedal is being pressed, in cold weather, pressing the gas pedal does not give the car gas. the dash light and odb reader both say throttle body failure. in hot weather, it has caused two minor bumps (no damage). in a few weeks, i am going to be afraid to pick the kids up at school for fear of lunging. *tr

My ford freestyle lunges at various points on my route. i notice it the most when my foot is on the brake. for instance, at times when i am backing out of my garage, my car would suddenly accelerate even though my foot was firmly on the brake. i have also been pulling up behind traffic, with my foot firmly on the brake, and the car has lunged forward. i just took my car to the mechanic. they have cleaned the throttle plate. the car now downshifts rapidly when my car is nearly stopped, like when i am stopping for a red light. the rpm's stay right at 1000 until i am 10-20 feet from the stopping point, then the car suddenly downshifts, causing the car to bow. this is a daily occurrence. *tr

I have a 2006 ford freestyle and when ever i drive it, it accelerates when your stopped at stop signs, traffic lights,coasting through parking lots, etc. i have just recently hit the car in front of me while waiting at a traffic light i was slowing down to stop when the car accelerated causing the car to lunge forward hitting the car in front of me before i had time to stop. this has become very dangerous. i took it to a ford dealer with no results. i called the ford mfg. and they told me they were aware of the problem but nothing was being done about it. i have ask several owners of the freestyle about this and they said they were having the same problem. i have checked on the internet and found complaint after complaint about this problem and the high cost of trying to fix it. i have went to several repair shops with no guarantees. the ford dealer i took it to charged me $140.00 then told me there was nothing wrong with the car. i feel this should be something the ford motor co. should be recalling. thank you. *kb

I own a 2006 ford freestyle and have begun to notice a surging/lunging of the vehicle while the a/c is running. i've noticed this lunging more when the car has been running for some time and i am driving and/or reversing at slow speeds, like in a parking lot. when this happens, the rpms go up and the car surges even with the brakes being applied. this sounds like a common problem with the throttle body in freestyles. the vehicle has been doing this consistently since the a/c has been needed. *kb
