Problems with 2006 Ford Freestyle VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Had gone thru fast food drive thru and parked briefly to eat. left vehicle running with a/c on. put vehicle in reverse to back out of parking space. vehicle lunged backwards across the driveway. hit brakes quickly and did not hit anyone or other cars. then when pulling out onto main road, vehicle alternately raced and sputtered. took to ford dealership where they replaced throttle body for $905.30. requested refund of repair charge under cust sat program 12n03. denied because dealership did not note 'surge' in work order or include any trouble codes on invoice. *tr

I turned left at the traffic light and the car was having trouble accelerating. then i noticed the wrench symbol on the dash board light up. although the car was moving forward it was not doing so as it would have normally. went home and turned it off. i took it to the dealership and they have told me i need a new throttle body. this will be the second replacement of that part since we have owned the car( it was purchased new in april of 2006). so it will be the third throttle body in that car in seven years. whether this is a part flaw or a design flaw on the part of ford or it's manufacturing facilities something needs to be done about this. i have read so many complaints online about this problem it seems it would be time for the government to step in and make them pay for the repairs, as i'm sure there are many. it was nice of the tax payers to bail out the auto industry when they needed it, so what about us , the consumer, don't we count. we're the people that keep it in business in the first place.i'm hoping since this is my second report to you that perhaps a pattern is emerging enough, for something to be done about this problem for all of us. *tr

The vehicle was idle while i was waiting to enter into traffic and it lunged forward multiple time. i shut the car off and when i started it again it did not respond when i placed it in drive or reversed. after that it seems to lunge forward whenever it wants to without any reason. i started to read about related issues on line and how owners were contact about this possible issue but i was not. this is a very big safety issue. *tr

Affected part: throttle body. two yrs ago we had our car repaired for a throttle body issue our car was lunging forward aggressively and sometimes stalled. it was a terrible safety issue, b/c it was also happening when my foot was on the brake. there was no recall at that time when we took the car to one ford dealership. they repaired the throttle body and the car ran for 2 yrs without the same problem. unfortunately, here we are 2 yrs later, & our car is at another ford dealership the throttle body needs to be replaced. we have spent so much already, and now we have to pay $1700 to fix the throttle body & also the alternator. there are so many ford freestyle owners who have had this same issue why hasn't a recall been issued? i just found out today that there was a customer service satisfaction program for just a cleaning back in nov 2012. i did not receive this letter, but it will not help us anyway since the throttle body is no longer usable. *tr

I purchased a used 2007 ford freestyle w/ one previous owner about 6 months ago with 110k miles. since then i may have added 5k miles or so, if not less. i took it in yesterday to the local ford dealer because of some issues with the care not accelerating at times and wrench light coming on. i would also hear the care rev up unexpectedly while reversing and doing other odd things that made me uncomfortable. they said i need a new transmission. parts alone would be $6k. this is unacceptable. *tr

A few weeks ago i was backing out of the driveway in the morning (it was cold & frosty). when i put the vehicle into reverse it started to back out but then wouldn't accelerate. i pushed harder on the accelerator and it revved and finally went. the car felt off' while driving (shaky & not fully under control-like riding a bicycle when the chain slips but isn't completely off). the wrench light turned on but once i'd arrived at the destination & stopped & restarted the vehicle it seemed fine and the wrench light turned off. last week i was again backing out and the vehicle would not accelerate, i pushed down more on the accelerator and it skipped / lurched back (almost hitting another vehicle). this happened twice more, both scary but manageable once i was able to turn the vehicle off and on again. then this morning it happened again with the revving noise and poor and jumpy acceleration but after restarting, the 'check engine' light came on and has continued to be lit. so far i have only encountered the lurching and lack of acceleration occurring while in reverse, though it's continued once going forward until i can pull over and restart the vehicle. until i can restart the vehicle it feels shaky and on the verge of dying, especially when at idle in traffic or red lights. i did a lot of research before purchasing the freestyle. i chose it because it was one of the highest rated and 'safest' suvs with 3rd row seats - reviewed by the iihs, car-seat.org and other organizations. i would not have purchased a freestyle if these problems were well known to me at the time. we will look at the throttle body as recommended by other owners on this and other sites and i only hope that solves the problem. in the meantime i am afraid of the lack of acceleration and lurching problem happening around other vehicles and people so i am driving backroads where possible. *tr

My 2006 ford freestyle is stalling out at low speeds and not responding to acceleration. the wrench warning icon comes on the dashboard when the worse problems are occurring. it is not the throttle bottle which has been replaced and been reprogrammed. the mechanic showed 4 error lights regarding the cvt transmission. the ford dealership was unable to diagnose or fix the problem. currently there is a mass class action lawsuit being filed in california, it is not a unique of isolated occurrence. *tr

I have been having problems with the throttle body of the vehicle for the past 2 years. it seems to want to lunge forward and back on its own. the idol is screwed up as well. ford issued a customer service 12n03 in december 2012. since it was serviced at this time, it still has been occurring frequently. it is a dangerous situation when you do not know if you will hit someone if the car lunges forward or back on its own. i now have it in the shop for the third time to replace the throttle body completely, which will now cost me over $800. ford needs to take responsibility and fix this problem on the car!!!!!!!! *tr

I just got the vehicle in november 2012 and on 12/12/2012 i was driving home, the rpms started revving on it's own at speeds between 50-60 mph. i was not increasing it's gas. i made it home and stopped at the mailbox; as i let off the brake the vehicle lurched forward without me hitting the gas. then on 12/13/2012 as i was driving to work it did the same lurching coming out of park in my driveway and also at stop lights and signs. it also did the same revving and halfway to work it decided not to go over 40 mph. *tr

Vehicle lunges forward because throttle revving the engine. sitting in the car line to pick up children at school is worrisome. throttle body replaced two times prior to this date. ford dealer informed me that throttle body needs replaced again. this is unreasonable to have replaced so many times. i have owned many vehicles in my life, currently one with over 200,000 miles 12yrs old, have never replaced a throttle body. this is a safety hazard much like the recent toyota accelerator issue. throttle body should be a recall item or should be covered for replacement by ford for life of vehicles. *tr

Vehicle would not slow as exit off freeway, rpms increased against braking system. very dangerous and would not slow. almost lost control of vehicle. also, continues to worsen, lungin forward and in reverse. *tr

I was backing up in the drive way and the car accelerated on it's own the engine rpgs went to 4000 without me pressing the gas. the call continued to accelerate until i pressed brakes and it stalled. *tr

Anytime i go from park to reverse or drive at idle speed my car lunges. on this particular day i was backing out of a parking spot. the car lunged so hard it through codes and the wrench on the dash lite up and car lost all acceleration power. i parked the car and drove it the next day and the power was back and the wrench was not lite anymore. it really scares me to drive this car. *tr

Car lunges forward when at a stop but still on drive, brakes must be immediately applied or the car will take off by itself. happens more when the shift is in the drive position but is being held by the brake for a period of time like in a line, a drive thru, or long traffic light. very scary! *tr

I was pulling in to walmart parking lot pulled up behind a parked vehicle i was almost stopped when my car accelerated it was almost like some one pushed my gas pedal to the floor i had to jump on the brake pedal with both feet then the car stalled and when i restarted the car i had no power i had to shut the car off then restarted it again then it was fine. *tr

We were in a parking lot. i had just shifted in to reverse and lighted up on the brake, and the car throttled backwards. i quickly pressed the brake and the car stalled or quit. i started the car again and the car throttled backwards again. i pressed the brake, but it didn't stall this time. i slowly released the brake and was able to back out of my spot. a little while later, having arrived at another destination, about 10 miles away, i was pulling into a parking spot, in drive, and after releasing the throttle, to apply the break as i was coasting in, the car 'throttled' again. fortunately, there was not another vehicle in the space in front of me or i would have probably had a fender bender. *tr

Car lunges forward when it is hot outside and air conditioning is on. while foot is on brake, the car lunges wanting to move forward. i was in a car line to pick up my kids from school and it was 105 outside and i had the air on. when the foot is on the brake the car revs up and tries to move forward. it has done it a couple times in the past, but very softly (mostly when putting it into reverse). this happened yesterday and it wouldn't stop. i was scared to death that i would hit a car or a child walking to the cars. only due to the fact that my foot was on the break did i not move more than a couple inches, the only way to make it stop was to turn the car off. i was stuck in the car line and had to turn my car on to move every couple minutes and was so scared that i would hit somebody/something. i didn't see the tachometer move very much but the force of the car was scary. the wrench light and the check engine light both came on. ford needs to do something about this. this is very dangerous. of course, ford says there is no problem with the frestyle model and that i need to have my throttle body looked at which is not covered by them as i'm out of warranty. needless to say, i'm taking my car to a different mechanic. i can't trust ford. i?ve already had my cvt transmision replaced with ford (in 2010) as it completely failed and of course that was out of warranty too. file with pe11018. *tr

Our vehicle has been making noises since august, 2012. it also lunges forward when in park and when going at low speed. afraid it is going to lunge forward and cause an accident or hit someone in crosswalk. we have had work done on this vehicle and nobody can tell us what the issue is. we have contacted ford as it appears they have had numerous complaints and no response. *tr

Wife was driving on i540 near raleigh, nc and car "wrench" icon came on and car decelerated quickly causing a dangerous condition. car was unable to be driven and required towing to a safe place. appears that the throttle controller malfunctioned causing the car to be disabled temporarily. after the car cooled the throttle worked but we elected not to drive until a local mechanic could check out this condition / problem. we towed the vehicle on a trailer to local garage near our home. *tr

I was driving on the highway at about 60 mph. i took my foot of the gas and the vehicle suddenly shuddered and shifted into lower gear. the wrench light came on. i couldn't accelerate properly to keep up with highway traffic. i was able to pull over turn the car off. when i turned it on again, the car acted normally. this same scenario played out several more times over the next few days. i took it to a ford mechanic who said the throttle body was sending incorrect signals to the transmission. this is the family car. i feel lucky that our sudden change in speed on the highway didn't cause an accident. *tr

98 degrees (103 with heat index), sat in parking lot with ac on high for 3 - 5 minutes. backed out of parking stall, and approached stop sign. when hit brakes the car lunged forward. pulled out of lot and 'wrench' light came on and car wouldn't run right. tonight tested the car again and it runs fine. after reading online it sounds like this may be a common occurrence related to a throttle body failure/malfunction. *tr

My car accelerates sometimes while my foot is on the brake pedal. it feels like it is jumping forward or something. also when i turn on my air condition my car, if in motion, will start to jump forward even though you have your foot on the brake. it even cut off on me several times with the air conditioning on. i now just drive without air at all because i am scared that my car will just stop on me. also my air only works on the highest level. *tr
