Problems with 2006 Ford Freestyle VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

I own a 2006 ford freestyle crossover. during the past year, the vehicle engine has been unexpectedly running much higher rpm (revving) and "lunging" forward or backwards (depending upon if the vehicle was in drive or reverse). after repeated trips to the dealership, i was told that the mechanics could find nothing wrong with the car. eventually, around mid september 2010, i replaced the throttle body per the dealer's recommendation. my car is once again beginning to "lunge" forward. i just noticed this on may 19, 2011. ford did not pay for the throttle body replacement and i am running in to a dead end again. i have spoken to many other freestyle owners and this appears to be a widespread problem. *tr

The car lurches forward or revs ups when under these conditions: ac is on, car is idling such as in a parking lot, stop signs or intersections. this has been gradually worsening until i narrowly missed a person walking in the parking lot and took the car in for repairs. the local dealer replaced the throttle body. *tr

My 2006 freestyle will intermittently accelerate when stopped or going at low speeds. this happens at redlights, carpool line, or anywhere i am idle. it happens on occasion while in reverse. i have tried some of the fuel injection cleaners and will be taking it to be looked at today after a scare at an intersection where it revved up and stalled. i have seen many post about it being the throttle body but i for one can't afford a problem that seems to be er related. it is a safety concern for me right now as i was almost hit at the intersection. this has been going on/off for a few months and at first it was so slight i did not notice. of note, my air compressor needs to be replaced and i have read that these problems seem to going hand in hand. *tr

I am having the lunging problem on my ford freestyle. it happens almost daily at different times. it happens when i try to park or back out of a park or driving at low speeds. *tr

The car will lunge once foot is taken off of the brake pedal without pressing down on the gas pedal. car lunges in both forward and reverse. this has happened multiple times.. *tr

On multiple occasions my vehicle has lunged when in a stopped position. when backing out of a parking spot, while in reverse, but with the brake still applied the car has lunged feet backwards at a fast rate and nearly caused accidents. this is also true in regards to stopped at a light or stop sign. while in drive with the brake peddle depressed stopped behind another vehicle the car lunged forward a couple feet nearly hitting the car in front of me. i have four children and i feel unsafe in my own car. i don't know when it is going to happen so i have to be prepared for it at all times. thank god that i haven't had any accidents when this happens. it is such a fast and unexpected movement that my children will scream. this needs to be taken seriously before someone has a serious accident. *tr

When i am idle or just driving around local, the car is accelerating on its own. very dangerous. i have adjusted my driving habits around this issue, but took it in this morning because the car will not start without pressing the gas pedal. i have read on the internet that there are many people that are having the same issue, but ford has not issued a recall. i cannot afford to make the repairs that others have detailed, and they say that the problem comes back after the repairs are made. *tr

Having issues with hard starting issues to the point it got to where it would not start. i have also had issues with acceleration fluctuation without me touching gas peddle. there was even a time where it fluctuated while i was driving. at the time i had the cruise on and it shut off the cruise when it did it. i have had mechanic clean out the throttle body and intake air sensor with electrical contact cleaner which seems to alleviate the problem temporarily. it lasts anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 months and needs cleaned again as it hangs up and my engine begins to self accelerate and is hard starting again. i am very worried that this will self accelerate while we are driving. this first began to give issues dec. 2010. *tr

i have a 2006 ford freestyle. over the past 4-6 months i have noticed the car surging and lurching forward after coming to a complete stop with my foot still completely on the brake. i have almost collided with vehicles in front of me as well as pedestrians in the crosswalk! this also happens when the car is in reverse backing out of the driveway and stopping to shift into drive. the car will surge or lurch backwards and if you are not covering the brake while in drive or reverse, the car will accelerate without touching the gas pedal. i took the vehicle to frontier ford in san jose, ca and the mechanic diagnosed this problem as a bad throttle body. from my research, this is a widespread problem with this make & model vehicle. i believe this problem may very well lead to a serious tragedy if this common problem is not recalled. please help us owners of these cars remain safe and not kill someone because of this failure! a recall is badly needed !!! *tr

My ford freestyle suddenly accelerates without pressing on the gas. it happens most often when we are stopped and i lift my foot off of the brake, it will suddenly lunge forward. it will also happen at low speeds, such as pulling into or out of a parking spot. it also happens at stop signs, drive thrus and in traffic. it happens during every drive now, sometimes numerous times. i have almost hit other cars and twice have almost run over a pedestrian. the part that is supposed to fix this problem seems to be unavailable. i have three children, the oldest is only 5 and i have very real safety concerns for my family and others around my car. *tr

When driving, my car loses power. sometimes when moving slowly, i engage the gas pedal and lose power. sometimes when i engage the gas to move from a stopped position, my car will start to go and then lose power. the car does not shut off, it just won't move, and then suddenly does. the dealer replaced the throttle body, but this is still happening. they said unless they can get the problem to happen when they are driving it, there is nothing they can do to help further. this is very scary and i'm sure it's a matter of time before there is an accident. when i put my car in reverse, sometimes it revs up before actually moving. i have had many problems with this vehicle, starting in the 20,000 miles. bad window motor, bad brakes, intermittent dash board clearance, air conditioning mechanism leaking into car. the dealer did replace the window motor, brakes and air conditioning problem, but had no explanation on the dash lights resetting. my paint is bubbling up on the hood of my car. ford offered to fix this for $850. the bubbling started at 39,000 miles. i did not pay them to fix this, as i feel ford should be responsible for this. when ford had my car last, they replaced a sway bar and did not tighten the nut, i then had the abs light come on and they replaced the wheel speed sensor and tightened the nut. my car clunked so bad, i fear that this caused additional suspension problems. i've always had noise in the front end, especially on a tight turn. the greased the front end, but that does not fix the problem. today, my car only has 45,000 miles on it, but unfortunately, my warranty is up and i know that one day when i put my foot on the gas pedal, it's not going to move. i was told by a ford service rep. that the cvt transmission cannot be replaced, so when it does fail, i'm out of luck, there is no repair for this. recall please

My 2006 ford freestyle is experiencing a surging/lurching at idle. i've also had loss of power and being forced to drive home in limp mode. the real irritation was when they were told of the long wait for the part and that "they" think it's not a safety issue. i have to disagree when my car will shut down in the middle of the road because i'm applying the break in traffic or a stop light. i am concerned for my family's safety because if this problem gets worse (either in frequency or magnitude) some day my car will drive itself into another car, or a person. and what's worse is that i'm sure that no insurance company would believe that the car just surged on its own and plowed into a parked car?because that would be ridiculous. the dealer didn't want to do anything at first because they pcm had no stored codes and they weren't able to duplicate the problem themselves. once they finally figured out the problem i got a call from my service advisor who told me that the throttle body was malfunctioning and that it would need to be replaced. *tr

2006 ford freestyle surging - when slowing down, vehicle surged forward while pressing the brake. also had an incident where it surged forward while in reverse. took the vehicle to my local ford dealer. they tried to charge me $390 to clean the mass air flow sensor. i have an extended warranty and i questioned why i would be charged the full amount. after much debate, they agreed to cover under my warranty but i had to pay the $100 deductible. they did the cleaning, they did not replace the throttle body as i requested. i am concerned due to the large number of related complaints and the safety related issue as the car is uncontrollable when surging and could cause the driver to hit pedestrians or other cars. *tr

When the motor is running and i put it in gear either in reverse or forward the car lunges. it also happens at stop signs or red lights. if the car is stopped and i remove my foot from the brake, it lunges. it will stop if i hit the brake. *kb

The vehicle lunges when in low gears going frontward and backward. braking stops this, but brake has to be applied harder than usual. i have complained about this before to no avail. because this does not happen all the time, my mechanic could not diagnose the problem. usually this happens at very low speeds like at traffic lights, in parking lots, etc. *tr

2006 ford freestyle lunges or lurches when in reverse or when moving forward at slow speed. rpm's jump and brakes have to be applied to avoid an accident. cause seems to be a malfunctioning throttle body sensor. normally happens after car has been driven for a long time period and during hot summer driving conditions. problem started occuring after around 50,000 miles and is becoming more frequent. was informed that ford had part manufactured by an outside vendor that has since gone out of business and that the part has been redesigned by another vendor that eliminates the false readings that cause a surge in rpms. this is a safety issue that will require a recall to avoid freestyles with this defective part from losing contol and causing potential accidents.

For the past 4 or 5 weeks, when your foot is on the brake, the car would rev-up and try to take off. this past week, i have been is stopped traffic and the reving up and trying to take off with my foot on the brake has gotten worse and today my car died in the missle of traffic. it did finally start back up, but the service department said that it was the throttle body and it would cost, starting at $700.00. the dealership said that they alone have fixed over 10. we live in a town of 3500 people. this is so stupid!. i should not be out this money!!! *tr

My 2006 ford freestyle has suddenly began to accelerate on its own. after i parked it 6 days ago, the check engine light came on. i took it to be checked and two codes came up p061b and p2106, and ford had a tsb for another vehicle mil with these two codes. how can i drive this car with it doing what it wants to do....please investigate this, because this model may be limited, but it has serious issues that no one can afford to lose their life over. i looked for recall information on ford's website, but it constantly says the vin number is invalid....so what do i do... *tr

I currently own a 2006 ford freestyle and we get sudden accelerator surges when parking or just having a foot on the brake which almost lunges the vehicle into an intersection when stopped at a light. this happens frequently say 50% of the time that you are just holding the brake. i have contacted the dealer and even with a 100k mile warranty they say this is not covered. this should be fixed even without a warranty it is a serious safety issue. i am currently a general manager at an independent automotive test lab and i know an issue that should be addressed and ford is playing with fire on this problem. there are plenty of blogs in the internet covering this. please investigate before someone gets killed. *tr

Acceleration while stopped - in both drive and reverse - i've had to hit the brakes right after i take my foot off the brake pedal, then the car stalls and sometimes afterwards will not accelerate. sometimes i have to shut off my vehicle, let it sit, then restart it. was an intermittent problem at first, now happening more & more often. this problem will cause me to have an accident or hit people in the future if not corrected. my check engine light is coming on more often when this problem occurs. i will have to take my vehicle in to get this problem fixed as it is a danger to myself and others. *tr

2006 ford freestyle wants to go on it's own (meaning accelerate)when pulling in or backing out of a parking space. then when you hit the brakes real quick to get the car to stop it will stall out. so far i have not hit anything from these events that have taken place, but fear it is only a matter of time. the situation seems to be getting worse. i believe this is good enough to be considered for a safety recall. this is the only family vehicle i have, i have 3 children. *tr

I have a ford freestyle 2006 with about 110,000 miles on it and i was in a parking lot and put my car in reverse and the car accelerated full throttle and i almost wrecked the car and then drove another mile and it stopped doing anything and i let it drive to the side of the road. it had a wrench light illuminated. i then waited about 10 minutes and then my car was able to start up and drive myself home. i had 3 small children in the car and was scared it would accelerate again but made it 40 miles home and now i sit here reading this and waiting till ford opens so i can call and report this issue. my throttle body has been replaced when the car had only 50000 miles on it and also had the transmission replaced at 90000. i am wanting to get my car fixed but this is the same thing that happened when throttle body got replaced before and now i see they are on backorder. this is awful this car should be on national recall. i spent a lot of money on this car and it should last this long! *tr

I have a 2006 ford freestyle with less than 60,000 miles. several times it has lurched forward while my foot has been on the brake and the motor has cut off right after. on 2 occasions, there have been error codes that have shown up, and i took the vehicle to a local auto parts store to find out what the codes mean. on june 11, 2010, i took the vehicle to the local ford dealership where i bought it from, and gave them the codes. they told me it could be something to do with the throttle and to bring it back in when the error codes come up again. they have not since the, but the vehicle is still having the same problems. the most recent incident was on 8/4/10 while i was at a stop sign. i had my foot on the brake and it lurched forward, and when i attempted to pull out from the stop sign, the vehicle's motor died. no error codes... i contacted the dealership's service department and have not gotten a response. i know that there are other freestyle owners that are having the same problems. can or will ford motor company issue a recall? *tr
