Problems with 2006 Ford Freestyle VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Currently own a 2006 ford freestyle. car started accelerating on own. drove it immediately to a shop, for fear of driving family in it. turns out it is a faulty electronic throttle body, similar to toyota problems. spoke to ford dealership service manager who said that this is a national problem, on backorder, currently though no recall. insist that this is a huge safety issue, similar to toyota's issues and ford should stand behind getting this problem resolved. dealership said backorder of parts could be 3-4 weeks. not safe to drive car. expensive to fix. *tr

In the summer when the a/c is running when i'm backing up or pulling forward it many times will unexpectedly lunge. i've almost hit people and kids, cars, curbs, buildings, etc. many of the times that it lunges it will stall or begin to run very rough. we have to put the car in park and cut off the car and restart. many of those times it will begin to run normal but have a indicator light that it needs mechanical attention. once the car is parked and sits for a while when it is started the mechanical attention light will discontinue. yet every time the a/c is running especially on high it will lunge almost every time. it is very dangerous in that if my foot would not be on the brake hard enough when it lunges and a kid or person would be in the line of the lunging car. dangerous! *tr

My husband was stopped at a red light. all of a sudden the car just went forward through the light, even though he was holding the brake pedal down. thankfully no cars hit us. we thought perhaps it was just something weird that happened. i continued to drive it and it happened two more times. i called ford. they told me that there was no recall and i should take it to a ford dealership to have it tested. the dealership said that they had this happen on quite a few of their cars, and that even though the computer didn't show anything, they recommended that we have a new throttle put in the car. we did and paid $800. to have it done. we had also talked to a different mechanic who also confirmed that he had quite a few fords come in with this same problem. ford told us that they would not pay for it unless there was a recall. they car was not safe to drive, therefore we paid for the repair. *tr

The 2006 ford freestyle that my wife and i bought in winter of 2008, was a great car for the first year. we noticed after the first 12-13 months that it was having a serious issue with the throttle, as in... the car would start revving while at idle... you could be stopped at a stoplight and it would lunge so hard that it would push itself half a car length into the intersection before you could stop it. if it were in reverse it would lunge even harder. we had taken it to the dealership a couple of times but the could never recreate the issue according to them. then 1 month out of warranty they could all of the sudden recreate the issue and it cost us $825 for a new throttle body. we replaced it, and we have kept all receipts incase of a recall. the car was good again for another 12 months, then it starts doing it again... again the ford dealership cannot seem to recreate the issue. then today they can amazingly assess everything and tell us that will cost us $1300+ to fix yet another throttle control issue. why is there no recall by the company here... there is already a class action lawsuit in california against ford for 2005-2007 freestyle . my wife is scared to death to drive this vehicle anymore. i know that there are thousands of other freestyle owners with the exact issue here. something really needs to be done to fix this. *tr

My 2006 ford freestyle actually lunges and revs up when i first get into it and put it into reverse or forward. it has been happening regularly now for over 2 years and about 40,000 miles but this weekend was the final straw. i had to pick up a child and left my kids in the car for about 5 mins with the car running and when i went to leave the car lunged backwards and i almost hit a tree then it shut off. i put the car into park and restarted it and it lunged forwards after being put into drive then shut off again. i then restarted it but it would not run correctly.a wrench light also came on. it was clocking 3000 rpms at 40 mph and it seemed like it would not shift. i pulled over and let the car sit for about a minute and restarted it. it seemed to run okay after that but lunged again today.i pulled the codes which were po61b and p2106. this is a huge safety problem. i have almost hit people in parking lots, trees, my garage door, and my own kids...this has to be taken care of and i think ford should do a recall!! *tr

I purchased my 2006 ford freestyle in december 2009. as soon as the weather got warmer i noticed that when parking, backing up, or trying to stop, the vehicle would surge as if i still had my foot on the accelerator. soon it also started surging/sputtering when i first started out and would occasionally stall, twice in heavy traffic. i took the vehicle to the ford dealership to discover that the throttle body position sensor doesn't work properly & that all freestyles were having the same problem. i was shocked to find that a new unit could be put in but was not covered as a recall and was going to cost $1000. as a single mom, that was just impossible. luckily my disabled father was previously a mechanic and was able to use carb cleaner to clean the sensor and temporarily stop the problem. since then, every spring the problem comes back and i have to have the throttle body unit cleaned several times before winter. another problem i have with this vehicle is that the brakes wear out unusually quickly. i don't know if it's because of having to fight the throttle position sensor to stop the car, or if it's a flaw in the design of the brake system. i do know that when it starts to feel like they are wearing out i have to replace them asap because the more they get worn the faster they wear out, if that makes sense. something i've just recently noticed is that the lights (interior, exterior, display, all of them) have been almost blinking...getting brighter/dimmer and at the same time my a/c blows harder/softer, like they are surging as well. upon further examination i found that the top and bottom driver's side motor mounts have cracked/rotted bushings. ford should absolutely replace these throttle bodies without question; my children ride in my freestyle every day and one close call is one too many. i want this fixed once and for all. *js

Vehicle lunges forward when at a stop with foot on brake. also happens when going into a parking space in forward and when backing out in reverse. this happened a few times last summer. never happened all winter. now has been doing it regularly this summer. the closest we came to an accident was in our garage. barely got it stopped before hitting the wall. my son and a friend has the same vehicle and both of them does it also. i don't know what component is involved for sure. i explained the symptoms to my service advisor at my ford dealer he said it could be the throttle body which would be about $800 repair. i have been trying to hold out to see if there would be a recall.

The car surges, jumps, sometimes acclerates and i put on the brakes and it will sometimes die. mainly happens when i am in reverse/forward or the air conditioning is running. also, does this when i am idling in a parking lot or at a traffic light. i have taken it to auto repair shops and they think it is the computer. couldn't afford to do a new computer so thought i would hold out, since it doesn't do it all the time. now it is starting to get worse. i turn the air off when starting out. my wrench light comes on and i don't have much power and my rpms get up to 4 when driving 50mph. turn the car off and it is like it never happened. the car is dangerous to drive with my kids not knowing when it will happen in busy traffic,,will it die and someone hit me? this isn't normal and i have found out my car isn't the only one doing this same thing. will it really take someone getting very hurt for something to be done? what justice is that and knowing that this problems exist. first time buying a ford and will probably be the last time. i don't trust them. you have a problem you fix it. that is integrity & trust. love for someone from ford to come with me for a day and ride in bumper to bumper traffic and see how our day goes. *tr

Hello, i have a complaint on my 2006 ford freestyle. i have a safety concern about my vehicle during reverse and acceleration. my vehicle tends to lunge 4-5 ft. when i reverse slowly or move forward. it happens to do this mostly during the summertime. to temporarily correct this issue i have to firmly hold on the brakes to control it from lunging. i brought this issue to my local dealership and they say there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. no what i expected to hear. no repair is currently done to resolve this issue. *tr

My ford freestyle 2006 keeps surging forward in low speed and out of park conditions. 1st time it happened i thought my foot hit the gas pedal accidentally. but it happened the 2nd time a couple of days later as i was leaving a gas pump. as soon as i realized that the car was jumping forward, i slammed my foot on the brakes which caused the car to die. i restarted it and went on my way thinking it was just a weird occurrence. the 3rd time it happened i was driving 5miles per hour in my children's school parking lot. car surged suddenly and i had to veer for the soccer field to avoid other traffic. as soon as i slammed on the brakes, the car died again. i immediately called the ford dealership and was told that i couldn't be seen until 5days later b/c they were booked. i was incredulous b/c this seemed to me to be a dangerous matter. i called another dealership where the service person insulted me by intimating that 1) i must have had my cruise control on - i did not or 2) that my mat was tangled in my accelerator or 3) "sometimes ladies have their purse by their feet and maybe my purse was pushing on the accelerator without me knowing." i had to ask him if he thought i was an idiot for calling since he wasn't taking my concerns for a mechanical safety issue seriously. i called a friend who's a mechanic who went onto the ford website and found out that several customers were having the same issue with sudden acceleration and posted their concerns on the ford website. i would have thought that a problem which could result in a major accident for the car's occupants or passers-by would have been taken more seriously and ford would have had letters mailed to all the affected customers of that malfunction. at this point, i made the appointment and await what they plan on doing about it but, was already forewarned that i still have to pay for the diagnostic and repairs b/c my car is out of warranty since its 4yrs old and standard warranties are for 3yrs. *tr

2006 ford freestyle lunges while in drive or reverse. car lunges while foot is on the brake, while in drive and foot is off the gas pedal, while in reverse while foot is off the gas pedal. i have had trouble with the car lunging forward and then stalling on 2 occasions. the lunging without stalling continues to occur and seems to be happening more frequently. lunging has occurred on at least 8 occasions. current mileage is 61k. problems began about 1 year ago. i have also had problems with the rear brakes wearing out. ford replaced them at no charge due to the recall. just replaced my front break pads on 5/5/2010. today, the airbag warning light came on and would not go away. also the seatbelt light and alarm kept ringing even though i was wearing my seatbelt and there were no other passengers in the car. *tr

I would be sitting in line at school to pick up grand daughter with air on, let off brake to move forward and car would surge this continued, but fortunately i wasn't picking her up as often. i could not turn air on. my freestyle now only has 58,947miles(approx.). sometime in 2012 i received a letter from ford offering to clean the throttle body. i had it cleaned then it sounded like a truck and smelled like gas. the last few months it dies on the highway. i'm afraid to drive on busy roads. i had my car diagnosed, they say it is the throttle body which is messing up the computer. i have contacted ford distributor to no avail. i am trying to get funds together to take care of this problem. i understand this is not an isolated case. the problem might be that ford only sold freestyles for a few years. *tr
