Problems with 2006 Ford Freestyle VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

While foot on the brake the car lurched forward like the gas went by itself. then at a stop light the light turned green and applied the gas. the car would not go. the gas peddle was all the way to the floor. later i put the car in reverse and the car stalled and died. my wife is scared to death and is afraid it is going to crash into another car. i took the car to my trusted auto repair place. they stated this is a know problem with the freestyles and surprised it was not recalled yet. *tr

While searching for a parking space in a busy mall parking lot, traveling at low speeds, the car lunged. i did not have my foot on the gas and had to brake hard to keep it from moving forward. this happened three times and the wrench light came on. i found a parking space and when i returned to the car the light was off. a minor version of above did occur again. now it constantly idles higher and it has produced the same lunge but not as noticeable multiple times. my a/c was on high and the outside temp. was high during these occurrences. *js

While navigating and entering a car wash vehicle suddenly accelerated while my foot was on the brake and i nearly struck the car in front of me. i applied hard brakes and vehicle stopped. vehicle then stalled out. vehicle was placed in neutral and i turned it back on. upon putting it into drive the vehicle lunged forward and stopped when brakes were applied. *js

While driving on the interstate i71/i75 my rear brakes locked up. my brake pads were cutting into my rotors. after checking the brakes when i got back home i found that the rear brake calipers were frozen on both sides (rear left rear right). the rotors, calipers and brake pads had to be replaced. now remember the car has only 21,900 miles on it. *tr

Transmission went out at 50,000 miles apx. after googling i found this is common with this car. i also am currently dealing with what i think its a throttle body issue. i did a search on edmunds.com and found a 12 page thread of people have similar issues. the car with revved up and lurched backwards and also forwards which is very scary and dangerous. i've had issues with getting the car to go above a certain speed as well. i will put the car into reverse and ease my foot off the brake and not even touch the gas pedal and fly backwards. i am terrified that one of these days i will not be able to stop the car. i am going to have it fixed but from reading others experiences it only solves the problem for a year or two and then they are back to the start again. it seems even this website has over 5 pages of complaints don't you think it is time to do something? *tr

While driving the ford revs up and down, while it is doing this it lurches forward and i lose all dashboard instruments, i cannot use the air conditioning because it makes the problem worse.the scary part is i have my family in the car when all this happens. on thursday june 21 i was driving down the highway at 50miles an hour when suddenly the car rpm revved up and down on its own the speedometer went out, the lights all flashed. the car was lurching forward, and it was worse when i was attempting to slow down. my daughter stated"i am scared" i cannot believe that this has not been recalled, when we were at the ford dealership we bought the car from we told them what was happening, they didn't even offer to look at the car or seem to care. the problem is very unpredictable, one day it runs good then all of the sudden it freaks out. *tt

2006 ford freestyle experienced unexpected idle speed acceleration or lunging. these lunge was sudden and unexpected, the foot was on the brake and not on the accelerator and the vehicle was at idle. this issue was intermittent and occurred unexpectedly when the vehicle was both in drive and reverse - and this acceleration when or shortly after the vehicle was placed into gear. aggressive braking stopped the acceleration. electronic throttle control was found to be defective and replaced. *tr

We were in line at a fast food drive thru and the vehicle suddenly lunged forward , the tach rpm went from about 800 rpm (idle) to about 2600 rpm . foot was on the brake at the time so it only moved about 6 inches. we parked in the parking lot and were ready to go and it did it again. an engine lite came on that indicated something from the transmission to the throttle was amiss. we shut the car off and waited a few minutes and restarted the car and the engine lite was off. so far we have not had another incidence and its been a week and about 300 miles since the occurrence. *tr

The car idled high while in a drive through line with a foot on the brake, it did this twice. after it idled back down and my wife removed her foot from the brake, the car lunged forward. luckily, there was enough distance between the cars to avoid an accident. she slammed her foot back on the brake, the car idled a little longer then died. *jb

I would like to add my complaining to incident pe11018. my ford freestyle 2006 is doing exactly as described. i would like to see a recall issued. how many incidents does it take before action is taken by ford? *tr

Car was sitting, parked in a lot, idling for about 10 minutes with the air conditioner running. when i put it in drive and let my foot off the brake, the car lunged forward as the rpm's first revved and then dropped. the car did this a few times, but once i got turned around toward the exit of the lot, it stopped doing it. about 20 minutes later, in a grocery store parking space, it did the same thing as i was backing out to leave. the car had sat running for another 10 minutes or so with the air on. this time however, the car idled up and then down, lunged in reverse, and then idled so low it died. once i restarted it and finished backing out of the space, i turned the air down to low fan speed and the car was fine the rest of the trip back home. *tr

While at a stop light waiting to make a left turn with the air conditioner on, the rpm shot up and the the car started to lunge forward. i almost hit someone in the cross walk before the car killed in the middle of the intersection. this has happen many times according to my wife this is her car and i never drive it. after reading all the complaints about the throttle body i decided to post my story. please help before someone gets hurt or worse killed. also it was hard to restart and very slugish till we shut off the air. my wife has told me that this has been going on for almost a year but that i really didn't know how bad it was till it happened to me. there really needs to be a recall on this before it is to late. *tr

My car is surging forward when unexpected. i try to make sure that my foot is on the break but as soon as i take it off the car starts to surge forward and could cause an accident or someone getting killed. *tr

Vehicle surges ahead at low speeds and stopped. must hold brake tight to keep vehicle from jumping ahead. also vehicle engine surges fast on and off at low speeds like coming up to a stop sign or moving just ahead alittle. *tr

Car surges when idling. seems more in hot weather but am told it is the throttle body that has to be replaced and is a known problem with all of them for 6-7 years now. *tr

Frequently during vehicle history at idle the vehicle's motor will surge to approximately 2000 rpm and lunge forward as described in nhtsa action item pe11018. i have had ford replace my throttle body at approximately 70,000 miles, which fixed this issue for a while, but it has now started this again. this problem has never resulted in a collision or injury, in my case, but i have had several near miss incidents each of which could have caused damage or injury if the brakes were not applied immediately. i have also researched and found many complaints on various blogs and websites of identical malfunctions. *tr

The vehicle will lunge forward at slow speed or while stopping. it has done so numerous times now and seems very dangerous. it has done it at stop signs and while parking the vehicle. i have read several other people having the same problem. *tr

Our '06 freestyle lurched forward while attempting to allow a pedestrian to pass in a parking lot. the engine speed increased and more brake pressure had to be applied to stop the car. slight engine revving was first noticed at a mileage of ~60,000 miles and grew over the next 10,000 to the point of the car actually lurching forward unless heavy pressure was applied on the breaks. eventually, i learned that if i had the a/c on max, vehicle stopped and idling, light pressure on the brakes, a turn of the steering wheel would make the car lurch every time. the lurching made parking, especially parallel parking, which requires the steering wheel to be turned right and left, a risk to nearby pedestrians. on-line posts and forums led me to clean the throttle body and the problem has been fixed for the past few hundred miles. *tr

We have owned our 2006 ford freestyle for approx 2 yrs and for the past year we have been experiencing various problems the main one being that while sitting at a stop or slowing down the car accelerates on its own we have to hurry and put our foot on the brake to stop car from surging forward. we have been having a problem with the electrical system there are time you can turn key to off position and remove key from ignition but car continues to stay running we have to disconnect battery terminal to get car to shut off. i have taken this car to several shops and no one seems to be able to tell me about either of the problems. after researching the issues on line i've discovered alot of people having the same surging problems. *tr

After starting engine, placed in reverse and vehicle suddenly surged backward while my foot was still on the brake. later, engine was periodically surging forward as i kept my foot on the brake while in rush hour traffic until the "wrench" light came on the instrument panel at which time the engine died. restarted engine and idled smoothly until i put it in drive and started lurching forward again as "wrench" light came on again. idle rpm was fluctuating between 400 to 1,000 rpm with my foot on the brake. had to keep left foot on brake with right foot on accelerator to keep engine running without bucking. moved to side of road and turned off engine to wait out traffic. restarted about 15 minutes later and drove home with no more problems, but noticed that it periodically bucks when idling so had car serviced and they said that the computer had reset itself. still does it periodically. *tr

During idle and foot on brake, the vehicle will attempt to accelerate and engine rpm's will go up. the vehicle will do this while at idle and at random times. i have experienced this in both drive and reverse settings. i have been able to reproduce this phenomenon while at idle and turning the steering wheel. the vehicle will attempt to lunge forward even while stopped in traffic. this has been happening without notice for some time. *tr

While pulling into our garage, creeping up to the front wall of the garage with foot firmly on the brakes, the freestyle lunged forward 2-3 feet. it accelerated on its own. the car struck the front wall of the garage, crushing the drywall, breaking 3 studs, and breaking the brick on the outside of the garage. the accident caused thousands of dollars damage to the house. this is not the first time the car has lunged like this but it is the first accident. problem seems to be worse at low speeds, while hot, and moving very slowly such as in the garage out backing in/out of a parking space. a/c on makes it worse. the ford car dealer where we bought the car has had the car now for a week, trying to diagnose the problem. they say there is nothing wrong with the car because they have not been able to duplicate the problem. . *js

The throttle will race up especially while coming up to a stop. i belong to a couple of forums that people have tried many of times to get this serious repair recalled. one person even pinned their child against the garage wall. i have not fixed mine yet as ford garage says it is about $750 repair. my wife almost took a guys door off. as she pulled into a parking spot a guy was getting out of the car and as she pressed the brake harder it made the throttle increase. the guy then though she was deliberately trying to run him over. we had to demonstrate the issue of this and then he understood. i just cant believe that ford can get away with this throttle issue. *tr

Purchased used three days prior to first incident. i was traveling at 55mph when i asked the vehicle to accelerate to maintain the current speed up an incline. the vehicles rpms shot up to 5k and i couldn't accelerate. i had my infant daughter in the car with me and was almost hit by another car behind me. i was forced off the road and turned the vehicle off. when i restarted all was ok again. this has happened numerous times since. i have also had a problem with the vehicle accelerating without me hitting the gas. i was in a parking lot when i put the vehicle in reverse and removed my foot from the brake. as i did this the vehicle lurched out of the space almost striking a pedestrian that walked out behind me. i was able to react quickly enough and hit the brake stopping the car. this has also happened in my driveway in drive as well. dealer is aware of the problems on this car from the previous owner having it in the shop multiple times. they have told me that the part to fix the transmission problem is in-accessible and that my only option is to replace the entire transmission for $4500.00. when all i need is a single part inside the trans. also, the throttle body is on backorder. the dealerships response to all of these problems is without an apology to take $50.00 off of my service bill for my inconvenience. the vehicle is currently sitting in my driveway because i am too scared to drive it. i have just made my first payment on a car i cant drive. *tr

My car was parked and idling with the air conditioning on (husband was in the passenger's seat, and kids in the back and it was very hot), i got into the car, put it in to reverse with my foot on the brake and it surged backwards going very fast. it almost hit a lady but i was able to slam down hard on the brakes and stop it. i then drove it limping along because it wouldn't' shift, to the nearest dealer. there they replaced the throttle body and some fluids and charged me 1000.00. it hasn't happened since but now that i know it is a common problem and can reoccur, i am looking for another vehicle to replace this one. *tr

I left my house with 2 of my children and was stopped at a red light when my car started to bounce back and forth. it was extremely scary and my kids were panicked. then, it seemed as though my car wanted to stall out, but luckily i made it back home and had to have it towed to the dealer for repair. *tr

This vehicle lunges forward and backward at low speeds, usually at 5-10 mph. this regularly happens when i am parking my car in reverse and right when i am speeding up. sometimes my foot is not on the accelerator pedal. it mostly happens when i am reverse parking my car and i am slowly moving the steering wheel with my foot off of the accelerator pedal and my foot very slightly pressed on brakes. i have gone to the ford dealership and they said that it was a transmission problem. we got it checked at a transmission specialist and they said the transmission is fine. i have been reading various articles online about this issue and it is exactly the same problem that i have. note: i bought this car in florida and brought it to canada with me. *tr
