Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2008 Dodge Avenger

Sometimes when its raining or snowing when my car is on at least once during my trip my car will turn off either when i'm at a stop light/sign or when i brake to make a turn. i can sometimes tell when its going to turn off because the car sputters (i dont know how else to describe it). ex yesterday on my way to work it turned off as i was at a stop light so i turned it off and back on more more issues on my 10 mile trip. on my way back home (car sat in the rain all day) my car turned off as i was leaving the parking lot of my job. when i say my car turned off i mean it loses all power so that when i press my gas car doesnt go anywhere i have to turn it off and back on to continue my trip

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. hondru chrysler dodge jeep ram of elizabethtown (located at 2005 s market st, elizabethtown, pa 17022, (717) 367-6644) was contacted via phone and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v152000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Every time car is started and driven it stalls and/or will completely cut off in the middle of traffic. the fuel tank also has the gas light on and says the car has an empty tank when in fact the car has a full tank. (on going issue)

I was driving along the freeway and the car just automatically went into limp mode. i change the oil i flush everything then when i went on to the kelly book blue book to try to sell it as saying that it had a bunch of recalls welcome to find out chrysler saying it doesn't so i don't know what's going on with my car and neither do mechanics.

As i was traveling 65 mph down hwy 411 in centre, al my car (2008 dodge avenger) completely shutoff. i could barely get my car over to the side of the road due to the steering wheel wouldn't turn. thank god it was 11 p.m on a thursday night because if it would've been during the day this hwy is very busy and i could've caused a wreck and harmed myself or someone else. after i got on the side of the road i tried to start it back up a few times and it finally started back up but it wouldn't stop turning over until i cut it back off. then i tried to start it again and it started but every light on my dash come on. i put it in drive and tried to drive it home but it wouldnt go over 15 mph. i had several vehicles run up on the back of my vehicle and i was actually afraid for my safety. when i got it home i shut it off and it wouldnt start back up. i then tried to start it back up the next morning and the electrical throttle control light come on and i still cant go over 15 mph. this should be a safety recall because i couldve been hurt bad or worse.

On 3-31-19 me and my 2 daughters were driving on expressway, i started smelling burning and seen smoke coming from hood on driver side of car, it appeared to be coming from the engine under hood and pulled to side of road. i turned car off and i told kids to get out and we walked down expressway. i told kids to stay there and went to walk back to open hood and check it, on my way back to it, it had started on fire. i went back to my kids and called police. within ten minutes the whole car was engulfed in flames.

Electrical system:wiring unused electrical connectors for the tpms may become corroded and could short circuit, which can cause a variety of conditions including engine no-start, dead battery, an inoperative cruise control or remote start system, and/or engine stalling.. i have bought 2 new batteries the electrical problem is creating my battery to die. when i am driving it's causing my light engine light to stay on and stall.

Electrical issue. odometer drops from 65 mph to 10 mph on the highway. lights flicker . abs light comes on during all this also. enigine stalls on occassion. loss of power to engine. all this happens at highway speeds!!!!!

The horn will randomly sound. it may be operating on city streets, on the highway, parked, and even when not running. the horn does not sound from the steering wheel pad which is a safety concern and causes a safety inspection failure. the horn sounds when the key fob lock button is pressed intermittently. the horn when sounding on its own may sound on and off, or one continuous sound. when taken to a mechanic it was determined the tipm (total integrated power module) is failing in multiple ways, and is the cause for the horn sounding. the tipm is known to cause wipers stopping, lights stopping, etc and poses a very serious risk. i was astounded to know how frequently this occurs and yet no action has been taken.

In motion at random times my electronic throttle control light will flash at the same time i lose all power at any speed.....from coming into my driveway to highway speed 40-50mph to interstate speeds 65mph i was with my very i'll mom who has to travel with medical supplies and equipment and when she is in an accident, and left unable to get to her set destination, would suffer and did finally today ....we had to sit parked for longer that she medically is able to because of this problem with the electronic throttle control. it should be recalled & resolved before someone in my car, or myself, gets hurt or killed. i have had my avenger since february - march 2009 and today is december 2018 and it has happened for over 2 years to me just because i am still alive, don't mean it shouldn't be resolved. again, this happened before i got to the mileage i am now and is still happening. my airbag light stays on and i don't know if it would even work......, if i was to impact from the loss of power that's caused from, the etc. please recall & fix this.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the tire pressure monitoring system indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to mullen motors (55980 ny-25, southold, ny, (631) 765-3564), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the contact stated that the failure was similar to nhtsa campaign number: 08v152000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was 92,000. *tt consumer stated car stalled while driving 3 times. vehicle has repaired.*jb

Wednesday october 10th 2018 approximately 10:30 a.m. i was on my way to smoothie kind in cooper city located inside of a plaza. as i turned into the parking spot with my foot already on the brake to slow down into said parking spot the vehicle accelerated on its own. i pumped the brakes once nothing stopped the vehicle and it went over the medium between parking spots and hit a unoccupied vehicle on the left front. then stopped just before hitting a tree. i'am not sure what happened but their seems to be an electrical malfunction because my mileage has disappeared since.

I was driving when i noticed the red lightning bolt light come on on the dash. then the check oil light came on (and i don't need an oil change) . my tire pressure light had been coming on that day, i assumed bc it was colder that day. as i was driving i was getting into the left turn lane and as i got to the end of the lane and straightened my wheel i noticed i couldn't really turn my wheel. once i got the green arrow to turn, i put my foot on the gas and i wasn't moving. i turned my hazards on put it in park and turned it off when i noticed my car was already off. i started it back up and the lights on my dash went away and it was fine. i've also been noticed the past couple weeks that my car revs up whenever it feels like it. i'll be parked and the car will rev up or i'll be driving a steady speed and my car will just speed up. sometime even when i'm braking to come to a stop my car will start zooming forward.

Intermittently, when the switch is on they will turn off and on by themselves. fast to slow and slow to fast. causes very dangerous driving conditions in adverse weather conditions. this happens when car is moving, obviously in rainy conditions. most recent accurate 2-13-18 highway and city streets.. also my air and cooling fan has been running intermediate on high and now is not working at all. not to mention issues with wiring harness.

The headlights and horn light and sound intermittently also interior lights also flash on and off. having intermitten problems with the wipers.also the battery keeps goimg dead. this has been happening at night as the car is sitting in the driveway. this has been going on for over a month now.

Car dies periodically sometimes 4 to 5 times in 3 miles other times it may go 25 miles and not die. most of the time it cranks back others it has to sit for 5 or so minutes. shows no codes in the computer could it be the module in the ecm?

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. on several occasions, the vehicle was difficult to start. while driving 40-50 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to south point dodge chrysler jeep ram (5210 s ih 35 frontage rd, austin, tx 78745, (512) 443-9333) to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that several engine wiring harnesses needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v152000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 129,000.

I was driving home from work and all lights when off and car shut off and i had no control i was driving on interstate

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while driving approximately 65 mph, the headlamps illuminated independently and all the warning indicators illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. the vehicle stalled and there was a burning odor inside. the vehicle was unable to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred later that day. the vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic and was repaired under warranty. the failure recurred days later. the vehicle was towed to motor mile dodge (2395 roanoke st, christiansburg, va 24073) where it was diagnosed that the tpms needed to be repaired. the dealer also stated that the vin was not included in a recall. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not inlcuded in nhtsa campaign number: 08v152000 (electrical system). the approximate failure mileage was 188,500. the vin was not provided.

Throttle body control----car will jerk and begin to lose power while driving. you will not be able to drive over 30 mph. within a few minutes, you will be stranded on side of the road.

I've already had to replace the power control module (pcm) once just a year and a half ago, and now i have to replace it again and my car has been out of commission and sitting at a mechanic's repair shop for almost 2 months now after fixing other things first before finally determining it was the pcm again. car will not rev above 2.0 rpm and is in "limp mode" with the service engine light along with the lightning bolt symbol present on the dashboard.

Tire pressure monitoring system indicator light came on. every since i have been having various problem with this car. such as engine rough idling/stalling, transmission issues, tire pressure monitor don't work, engine won't start/dead battery. just a lot of unusual problems. i be driving the vehicle city or highway. don't matter whether i am driving straight or turning. this vehicle will stall in the middle of the road. yet stall right back up. all started after the tire pressure monitoring light came on. i believe it has something to do with the tire monitor system. i have been taken chances, hoping that it will go away like it started. my repair service can't fine the problem and said to check for recalls. these unsafe conditions have been going on for a while. help needed

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while operating the vehicle at various speeds, the abs warning indicator illuminated. the speedometer and other instrument panel gauges flickered on and off and the speed would suddenly decelerate. after turning the engine off, the vehicle would not immediately restart. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the alternator and battery were faulty and needed to be replaced. the parts were repaired, but the failure continued. the vehicle was taken to green dodge in springfield, il where it was diagnosed that the pcm was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 134,300.

Have been having many issues with windshield wipers stop working all of a sudden and sometimes do not work for days. with no warning windshield wipers will stop in the middle of the windshield and stutter. while attempting to rotate wiper switch they may move a little and if you turn them off they will continue to stutter across windshield. sometimes they work normal. i have been doing a lot of research and this issue is all over the internet. chrysler apparently refuses to admit there is an issue with a faulty tipm. today i experienced a total power failure while driving. everything stopped working while driving....no wipers, turn signals, headlights, brake lights, instrument panel. pulled into a parking lot after almost getting rear ended while turning. turned car off restarted a few times and then everything started working except wipers. someone is going to get killed if this issue is not addressed!!

Got an alignment and now it's shaking and pulling to the right. brake lights and blinkers won't turn on. and all fuses have been replaced

Started car at home and heard pop and saw smoke coming from under hood and when opened hood shock tower cover was on fire

Drivers seatbelt doesn't stay locked. it comes undone. driver's seat doest move up or down anymore and tire sensor never goes off. even after new tires put on.

My car stalls out and throttle single light comes on..had throttle fixed and after one day same thing stalls and light comes on.. don't have money to waste on guessing what's wtong.. need definite problem solution. or recall it to find out what's wrong.its been stalling everywhere .. i'm afraid to drive it on the high way

We have been having a lot of problems with our car lately. first problem we had was with our alarm system. the alarm has gone off on us both when the car is off and when the car is on. the horn starts and won't go off until after about 5 minutes no matter what we do. we have try turning it of with our key alarm, turning the car on and off, unlocking the doors but nothing seems to work. yesterday we were driving our car and the car stall and we were lucking to be able to pull to the side safetly since we were coming to a stop. after a couple attempts, we got the car back on and running. i have search this problem and i found that it could be the tpms. as to what we have experience with the car lately, we are almost sure it is this. we contacted the dealership and we were told that this recall was perform back in april of 2008 and are not responsible for anything the car is going through now and will not replace the part for us again. can you please let me know if the dealership is required to switch this part for us again since our car is not safe to drive or if we would have to solve this problem.

Windshield wipers work intermittently, when the switch is on they will turn off and on by themselves. fast to slow and slow to fast. causes very dangerous driving conditions in adverse weather conditions. this happens when car is moving, obviously in rainy conditions. most recent accurate 2-20-17 highway and city streets.

I was driving and airbag light kept coming on and going off. even after i turned my car off and back on it did the same thing.

Etc failure ( electronic throttle control ) approx. 100,00o on vehicle, highway going steady 65mph and light came on near total power failure. restarted vehicle seemed to clear itself. took to dodge mechanic the computer says it did not happen.. replaced the (etc) and car is still not operating correctly..i have zero faith that the car is safe. researched this etc issue which seems to be widespread.

While driving a lightning bolt in parentheses symbol popped up on the dash. car began idling and would not exceed 10 miles per hour. then the radio turned off and lights began to dim. so i parked the car and turned it off. the car would not start back up. i got it towed to a local shop for a diagnostic and was told it was the battery. so i got it replaced, that same day about 6 hours later, the exact same thing happened. thank god we were not on the highway. i researched the symbol and a lot of related stories were discussed. i believe there is some need for a recall because others weren't as fortunate as us. please take this into consideration because lives are at stake. thank you

I was driving down 480 highway my car started smoking and shut off i had it towed my computer motherboard caught fire! thank god it didn't cause me to wreck and get killed

tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the engine warning light illuminated intermittently and the vehicle decelerated independently. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the contact was unaware of the exact part that needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v152000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

Takata recall, my 2008 dodge avenger has always drained batteries fast i thought nothing of it at first until my car began not to start, now it does not start, kills batteries, cruise control does not work, and now the ac is having problems, i looked into the recalls and everything that is going wrong with my car matches the recall that took place in april 2008. i now fear that my car will turn off while i am driving. please fix this problem before it escalates.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while driving approximately 60 mph in a rain storm, the windshield wipers failed to operate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the tipm was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 128,000.

The widows won't work it takes forever to put gas in the tank this car has a lot of problems

Got home, put car in park & let go of the brake. noticed i was rolling backwards so i quickly pushed on the brake. looked on my dash & it indicated the car was in reverse, so i pushed on the gear shifter to make sure it was pushed all the way up, which it was. i then turned the car off & tried to turn it back on. the car then wouldn't start 7 the gears would not change. looked online, seen there was a common issue with the pink plastic piece connected to the gear. pushed the pink plastic piece in & it allowed me to switch gears when it was held in but i am still unable to crank my car & even when the gears are switched the dashboard says the car is still in reverse. looked up recalls & sure enough there is a recall but of course when i entered my car information it doesn't apply to my car. i also have replaced the alternator 4 times in 3 years. i was told that it is a poor design that causes the alternator to wear down & lock up so quickly. i will ever buy another chrystler dodge vehicle in my life. this car has by far been the worst investment of my life. i really hope something happens to get these cars off of the road forever before they end up killing someone due to the highly poor design of everything in them!

My car is having all of the same problems that the vehicles form the tpms recall had. my car isnt covered under the recall though. the cruise control wont work, the battery just goes dead, the remote start sysyem wont work, sometimes the engine wont start, the radio stays on all the time if you dont manually shut it off, the air bag light is on even though there is nothing wrong with it. i feel as though since my car has all the same problems and i have seen many more complaints from others on this site and other websites that the recall should be reevaluated and expanded to cover more of the same year of vehicles. please do something about this for all of the owners having problems.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while the vehicle was parked, the remote start system failed to operate and the anti-theft alarm system activated independently. in addition, the tire pressure warning light illuminated and the key fob failed to shut off the alarm. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the failure recurred independently. the contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v152000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 105,000.

Air bag continuously goes on. cruise control does not work. tire pressure was an issue but had that fixed

My avenger is very dangerous and i'm trying to get rid of it because i fear for mine and my children's safety. on several occasions the vehicle has stalled while at idle and even once while i was accelerating on a highway- doing over 60 mph. it also continuously has accelerated on its own, either when slowing down or speeding up it will jump rpms and take off on its own. while going through a school zone the car accelerated on its own and i came very close to hitting two 5 yr olds crossing the road. i've had electrical problems, as the check engine light will come on and off on its own and just recently the combination switch stopped working completely, almost causing me to be rear ended. i've called dodge and they want $100 just to look at the car, which i cannot afford after dumping many dollars into trying to fix these life threatening issues. i've had it seen there before and they said nothing was wrong when i paid over $500 for repair work. i'm fearful for my life while driving and its caused me much stress and anxiety. i've spoke to several other avenger owners that experience the same problems in which their only option was to trade it in because they couldn't afford to buy a new vehicle. i personally would junk it myself because i would never want to jeopardize another person or their children's life, however like everyone else i can't afford it and will probably have to trade the "problem" down to some unknowing of the risks and dangers of the vehicle. after spending thousands of dollars for what i thought was a reliable car i am left driving a lemon, taking prescribed ativan for anxiety because i am constantly in fear of driving the thing, and unable to sell because nobody wants it. this car had wrecked my life, and i only want dodge to take responsiblity. it's a shame to know that i am putting everyone's lives in danger & it's taking a toll on my health.

The tipm suddenly went out, creating hazardous driving conditions for my brake lights, windshield wipers, turn signal lights, are all not working.

Initially thought a brake light bulb was out. took to a repair shop which they told me there was nothing wrong. then the windows wouldn't roll up. found out a major problem occurred that put my safety (and others) in jeopardy. turns out i needed a costly total integrated power module. which i found out it controlled a lot of safety features!! my dashboard didn't even signify a problem!
