i have a 2008 dodge avenger 2.4 cylinder. my starter has been replacing four times in less than forty day time frame, yes that is what i said. the car cut off on me while driving without any warning while i was on the interstate. i have now paid around 1,440. so far now. this is a major safety issue whether or not my vin number fits the bill, it has happened and has grossly endangered my family to include grandchild and myself not to mention increase the risk of multiple crash. the following are information i have found reason for stalled engines of 2008 doge avengers . all work done at dodge service dept. i have receipts from dealership with my complaints about engine stall issues. please help me. sincere, thanks major safety issue: resulting in an engine stall or engine failure. the engine stalls while driving it may increase the risk of a crash. chrysler dealers should replace the tipm module, free of charge. flash the totally integrated power module (tipm) or replace the occupant restraint control module, as needed, free of charge. september 2008 -- chrysler is recalling 712 my 2009 sebring, dodge caliber, avenger, journey, jeep patriot, and compass vehicles. a new adhesive used in the power train control module (pcm) manufacturing process can cause the printed circuit board to break. this can cause the engine to stall and cause a crash without warning. dealers will replace the pcm free of charge. the recall is expected to begin during november 2008.

On dec. 17 2015 battery indicator came on while driving on fredrick in st joseph mo then shortly after voltage light and air bag light came car lost steering control and power driving had to coast car into parking lot. towed car to firestone changed battery left firestone lights came on again took it to dodge dealer they diagnosed and said it was the pcm regulator that charges the battery was bad. pcm is back ordered over a hundred units. i've been charging car at night for the last 30 days so i could still use car due to dealer not able to give loaner because they have no when the part will be in to fix car issue. i fear that this is a safety risk because at anytime while driving the car may loose voltage and i will loose control of the car. this is the only car i have.
Vehicle stalls at traffic lights or in stopped traffic in wet weather. mostly wet weather, but has occurred at least tree times in dry weather. local good year ran a "wet test" on it, could not reproduce the stall. when this happens i put it in park, turn off the ignition, put on my hazards, and it starts back up with no problem. mechanic cannot find the source. this is scary at the least and makes me nervous even thinking about having to drive when it is wet outside. i read a mention of a wiper motor.. that it may either be poorly grounded or is failing and drawing excessive current., he relates the stalling in wet weather to this as the wipers would either be on or in the delay setting. any other circuits sharing the same ground circuit will get a reverse polarity voltage burst every time the wipers sweep, it seems that when it is on delay the sudden high resistance of the ground path knocks off voltage sensitive modules and things stop working for a moment, if you are off the gas, the engine just may stall out. he suggests checking the grounds, clean and tighten them. i have no idea if this could be the situation or not. i can give this information to my mechanic, but i do not want to go in with a guessing a game and hit or miss, that could get expensive. this has been happening on and off for about 6 months now, approx.. 95k miles.
Horn started blaring, lights where going on and off while sitting in parking lot, driveway and when driving. car started stalling when this problem started. took to dealer and was told it was the tipm. saw where in 2008 dodge/chrysler had issue with the tipm but the 2008 avenger was left off. have seen on dodge talk and multiple other web sites that the 2008 dodge avenger has had this issue and dodge/chrysler is aware of it. it is a safety issue and they should have to repair the vehicles. car currently at venice dodge chyrsler dealership. 941-493-7986.
Tire pressure monitoring system short circuits leading to faulty readings on gauge, cruise control won't operate at speeds over 40 mph, radio constantly skips from one station to another, etc. contacted chrysler about the recall on this (recall #: 08v152000) asking to have it repaired free of charge, but they refused. these issues occur when the vehicle is both stationary and mobile.
Brake lights out due to wiring problem per mechanic. brakes lock up and skid. dash lights flicker and dim while driving. turning signals not working and all fuses replaced. all problems while vehicle moving or stationary.
The tipm went out, causing the vehicle no to start. some research i have done, tells me that dodge new about the problem. its just annoying that it money out of my pocket, and a vehicle i can't drive.

While driving into the city i notice the smell again of burning plastic, the air conditioner switch was hot and stuck in the high position. i had to break away the knob to the lower position of the fan speed to stop the burning smell and then off. this is the second switch ive had to replace since i've has this car ive also found other people also having the high position of this switch fail due to the contact getting hot due to its inability to carry the current required for the fan at high speed. this current caused the old switch contacts to over heat and melt the plastic. i told landers dodge about this the first time it failed and they said it was just a bad switch,,and now a second one? no theres something wrong with the design of the switch contacts that it keeps burning these out! ive also had the lighter short out, the center contact moved and shorted against the negative of the housing , it got hot enough to melt the ceramic isolator before wire fuse went. ive saved ll the parts.

I was stopped at a red light; once the light turned green, i stepped on the gas to go and the vehicle jerked lightly; the warning light for which i now know is the throttle body sensor, blinked on and off; i attempted to give it gas but it would not go past 10 mph; the rpms went up but the speedometer would not move; i have not had any other issues with the vehicle after owning it for 5 years with regular maintenance; the brake down occurred at 101,700 miles; the vehicle is currently being repaired at dodge dealership at a cost of $530
I bought this dodge adventure a month ago and so far it has stalled out 5 times or more at idol.i took it to my mechanic and they cleaned the idol position censer then just yesterday it stalled again on my daughter..what is the problem with my car?i dont want to keep paying more and more money on trying to figure out this problem.

Started having problems with the radio system, it turns off by it self and not turning on. one`s in a while it turns on by it self. it does the same thing if it`s running or it`s the car turned off. other issue is that the 4 electric windows fronts and rears broke very ease inside the elevator when i lower or turning up. i`m been wasting too much money for this issue. in one point both issues for become unsafe because while i`m driven on want to lower the window it makes a big noise when it breaks. and the radio turns on and off by it self scaring you while i`m driving.

I took my car in on january 21, 2015 because my airbag light was flashing again but this time it's a clockspring and [xxx] at dodge told me that is not safe to drive the car like this because airbags wont work, my cruise control doesn't work and he said more things will fail. i think this should be on the recall list but it isn't. there is no way that i can have it fixed because i get $800 a month and to replace that part is $579.30. is there anyway to put this part on the recall list because it's not safe to drive. thank you *tr
Stopped at a red light and a symbol on my dashboard appeared. the symbol was a lightening bolt in parenthesis which i've found out is the etc symbol. that along with my engine light came on together. after turning the car off the etc symbol did not reappear but the check engine symbol did. from looking through forums i've seen that this is a problem with numerous dodge avengers and to fix these problems cost large sums with no real conclusion of the reason for the symbols appearing in the first place. i would like to request that this problem be noted in the avenger line and recalled. thank you for your time and consideration. *tr

This has happened several times but today was the worst. the car has lost power several times in the rain mostly when making a turn or slowing down. this time i was driving no rain and the electronic throttle control light starting flashing. i was on the high way and noticed i couldn't accelerate. i started to slow down and move to the side of the road where it just lost power. thank god i was able to pull over because there was a lot of traffic and i would have been hit. also my son usually drives this car. this has happened several times to him and when it stalls you loose all power steering and brakes. it is really dangerous. we have had it to the dealer twice and they cant duplicate the problem so according to them there is no problem. i have been reading others complaints and they all seem to be the same issue. also the airbag light keeps coming on. is there any resolution to this issue. it seems that people have to die before issues get resolved .i hope dodge will issue a recall before that happens. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that the horn activated without being depressed and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who diagnosed that the fuse box needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 122,000.
The dodge charger had a recall where the key would hang when cranking the car.. my dodge avenger has the same problem. *tr
I have had my battery replaced (did not help my issues). next i spent a couple hundred to have my "electrical ground " repaired (also still had the same issues). my original issues (that have not yet been fixed): car stalling, car unable to start, all lights on car flickering. now my rear lights are not working (therefore i am unable to drive this dodge avenger since it is an extreme safety hazard when rear lights/blinkers do not work). . the dealer says it is the tipm that has caused all rear lights to not function anymore as well as the original issues i had. this is a $1,000 repair that i recently learn thousands of chrysler/dodge vehicles had same issue with. this does not seem fair that the consumer should pay the expense, when clearly this should have been a recall item. due to this being a widespread problem amongst dodge vehicles,. the dealer diagnosed my car as a road safety hazard due to no brake lights/turn signals . *tr
The etc(electronic throttle control) light came on and essentially put the car into limp mode and almost caused my wife to end up in an accident driving at roughly 75mph in rush hour traffic. took it to the shop and they replaced a valve and said the codes were reading that it had restricted air flow. the problem happened again resulting a potential accident on the interstate. through research, i have come to find out its the throttle body and dodge's inability to put quality into their parts. example being the plastic gears within the etc unit of the throttle body. i understand that problems occur and parts break but with the amount of complaints that i have seen about this particular issue, dodge needs to be held responsible for putting this kind of low quality craftsmanship within their vehicles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that the vehicle the hesitated and it took several attempts turning the ignition switch before the vehicle started. the failure recurred sporadically. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
I had my electronic throttle control replaced in the winter of 2013. as i was driving on the highway, the car lost all power and would not turn back on. after seeing the many complaints here i was sure chrysler would cover it, but they did not. they, in fact, told me that they explicitly were not covering all of the complaints on this part! today, i learned that now i am having electrical problems again. my right turn signal and brake light work whenever they want, no rhyme or reason. my cruise control also works whenever it wants and the auto technicians cannot figure out why because there is not warning light coming on my dash. i learned about a possible recall related to the tpms connectors and how they corrode then cause electrical issues, but my vehicle doesn't qualify. i called chrysler again today and they were very rude. they would not give me any information on how to escalate my problems. i told him that was odd and he said to me "is it really odd? if you were the corporation would you give it out?" i'll never buy a chrysler product again. fix the electrical problems that are all listed here and save your customers! *tr
I took in my vehicle to the dealership dodge/chrysler jeep auto center in august 2014 to a/c recharge then i drove out it start humming called dealership they said to drive it for awhile to see if it goes away it did then it started again an now they say it's the alternator; impossible but yes alternator so when i had in to recharge the air conditioner an drove it the humming was coming from my alternator unbelievable my car only has 59,000 miles on it. now if i don't replace it my car could stall where ever im driving freeway or city streets. the price is 482.00 at dealership or 570.00 at a auto shop. i've called corporates of dodge/chrysler an filed a complaint. *tr
I started my car on sunday august 3, 2014 and the engine wouldn't turn over, after waiting a minute the car started. while driving the car would not go faster than 20 mph even with my foot completely on the petal. i took my car to oreilly auto parts and had the check engine light read. i had all new spark plugs (based off the check engine light reading) put in the vehicle and i'm still not able to drive over 20 mph. my car is now cutting off at the light and not the highest speed is 20 mph. i keep getting a lighting bolt message and check engine message even though all the codes have been cleared. *tr
I am having trouble with the electronics in the front two windows. the passenger side quit working on the drivers side control then the passenger side switch. approx. two weeks later the driver window won't go down but will go up. one of the engine ports on the passenger side is stuck open and i have tried using sea foam. both front struts went out at the same time a month ago. replaced the alternator three weeks after buying the car that was three year's ago. it seems to be one thing after another has to get fixed on this car. i have repaired the a/c unit on it twice this summer. now the powering steering unit is making a noise when the wheel is turned. wouldn't recommended this car to anyone. nice looking but falls apart to easy in a short time frame. *tr
My car horn goes off periodically and stays on when im driving or parked without me blowing it .also my seat belt light comes on every time i turn on the vehicle .when im driving the engine oil light comes on the wheel tighten up and the vehicle slows down and cuts completely off. i have been driving on busy streets when this happen as well as express ways. once it cuts off if i sit and a couple minutes the car may start back driving like nothing happen...usually. i sit for 30 minutes before it start up..i have taken it to mechanic and its something with the electrical system no codes are coming up when i went to place it on a machine..one mechanic said it my be the ignition not connecting ..can this be investigated because this car is doing things on its own the horn will go off when im parking driving and the fuse was checked. *tr
i had parked my car, 20 minutes later i went to start the car and it started. as i shifted the car in reverse, the car immediately died and the electric throttle light came on. i put my car in parked and started it again. and it did it again with engine light also. finally, i started the car and it continued to run. i backed out and started to drive. a block away at a four way stop sign the car completely died. was not able to even use my flashers. i call a tow truck and had my car sent to a repair shop with the spare key. the repair shop called me later and stated that they could not find anything wrong with the car and it was running fine but might need to be looked at a transmission shop. my vehicle was taken to a transmission shop and they stated the same thing and thought that it may have been the key that i was using. so for two days after picking up my car, the spare key was working and the car was running. 4th of july evening my car quit working in the drive thru and the throttle light came on again, i was able to start it but while i was driving the car died in the middle of the road. i was not able to use my flashers cause they did not work. i was afraid that someone might rear end my car due to the vehicle was dying and i had my kids in the car. i was glad i was close to home but that is very scary at night when your lights completely stop working. my car is currently at the dodge dealership and they are stating that they don't know whats wrong with it but for them to continue to check it out i have to pay $150 and they think it might be an electrical problem. i continue to research online and it seems that i'm not the only one with this problem with the same year, make and model, so how do they not know what it is. i'm glad that i wasn't on the highway, it could have been fatal. *js

Intermittent loss of power on acceleration and under load. suspected throttle body issues with throttle positioner code showing up. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. the contact stated that while waiting at a traffic stop, the vehicle stalled and the tire pressure monitoring system warning lamp illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v152000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 71,000.
Battery light warning came on, cruise control stopped working, car would no longer shift or was drivable. this occurred on the freeway and we were almost hit. once stopped the car would not turn back on. this appears to be connected to either recall h07, which may be recurring, or to an item that should be recalled relating to the electronic throttle control. there are multiple incidents regarding this item. i've had several completed recalls that don't appear to have been completed or are recurring. *tr
While driving on the highway a service light came on in my car and my car started slowing down to 5-10 miles an hours on the highway where it would not go. i let the car sit for a few minutes and it started up and drove normal again. it has happened while i was going 35 miles per hour where it will do the same thing. the lighting bolt symbol light comes on. *tr
The electronic throttle control on my 2008 dodge avenger broke. this is a known problem to dodge but they have a 2 to 3 week back log on the part to fix this problem. now i don't have my car for 2 to 3 weeks and i now have to rent one. if this is a known problem why hasn't a recall be placed on this part? why if this is known do they have such a back log on parts. if this is a known problem why am i paying for a rental car? this is a total lack of customer service on a corporation level. this is not the first car i have had this kind of problem with when it comes to dodge products. as a loyal dodge driver for the last 20 years this is the last straw. their incompetence as a company can no longer be overlooked and brushed away. when will they accept responsibility for the product they produce and stand behind it? although i expect dodge to do nothing as usual they have just lost one more customer. *tr
I was driving home and the car bucked like it was going to stall, just then i lost my dashboard lights, car kept running but sluggish. got home to see if anyone else had this problem and found out that there was a recall for this issue, exactly what had happened to me was described on chrysler's recall page. so i called chrysler and they told me it wasn't my model, yet everything i read, even on your page, says 2008 dodge avenger and the problems i know have are described to a tee. any help in this situation would be greatly appreciated as i don't have the money to fix chrysler's problem. thank you! recall id #74738 nhtsa campaign id- 08v152000 chrysler recall no. h07. *tr
My vehicles etc light (code p2112) came on while getting on the expressway at 65 mph and it went into "limp mode" causing my vehicle to jerk severely and my speed to drop down to 30 mph immediately. after nearly being hit by a semi i was able to get to the emergency lane and my check engine light came on as well. the vehicle will not go faster than 10 mph. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 dodge avenger. while attempting to shift gears, the gear shifter became stuck. while driving approximately 50 mph, the electronic throttle body warning light illuminated. the failure recurred multiple times during cold weather. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
Was coming to a stop off of the interstate and all of a sudden lost speed power. was unable to go over 10 mph from my stopping point. the etc light was flashing. i have not yet taken it to a mechanic. i did shut the car off and restarted and it seems to be running fine now .... but will this happen again? *tr
I was driving on the highway going 55mph and the electronic throttle indicator light came on and my car failed to increase speed and started to jerk slightly. the rpms then jumped from 1700 about to over 2500 then started pushing 3000 and wouldn't go down until i was off the highway and going 30mph. my rpm was still around 2500. i was able to pull over and turn my car off and that seemed to fix the issue, until i needed to go on the highway again. everytime my car went to shift to a higher gear when i was hitting between 50 and 55mph it would happen. it took my car to a mechanic who told me my car was undrivable because this would ruin my transmission. i now have a completely dead car due to the part i need being nationally unavailable. *tr
While i was driving home from work i was driving approx 50 mph and i lose power and my electronic control throttle light came on. i couldn't go faster then 5 mph and my rpm wouldn't pass 2,000 i pulled over on side of road turned off the car and try to restart but it would only run for a few seconds and cut out again. my home town mechanic said that the issue was the throttle body. the total cost in repair is roughly 500 dollars, and reading online there are more drivers out there having the same issue. i think dodge should do a recall on there 2008 dodge avengers and up. *tr
