We have classified the 779 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
Driving along in traffic about 40mph car just shut off. pulled off road turned key off and restarted car. this happened several times. took car to my mechanic they tried to check problem but it did not stall for them. they did not want to replace throttle if they were not certain that was the problem and said if it happens again to go back at that time. about a month went by without a problem. when it happened again i took it in to the ford dealer they said they just got a new program to test for specifically throttle trouble. my car failed the test and they replaced the throttle kit- costing me $392.20. not only was it very dangerous to drive the car not knowing when it would just stop running but it was expensive to replace. hope this helps with your investigation and will get a recall so i can at least recoup my expenses. the fear of being rear ended was frightening when driving in any traffic situation. *tr
I was driving down the highway at 65mph when all of a sudden my car lost fuel pressure. i put the gas pedal to the floor and nothing happened. i put on my hazard lights and was able to get off to the side of the road as other cars were flying by me on both sides. all the electrical functions were still on but the wrench light came on. i shut the car off and restarted it and the light went out and i went on my way. there was no warning. it happened 2 more times about a month a part each time and always after i had been on the road for at least 15 minutes. after the third time i took it to the ford dealership and had to wait over two weeks to get a new throttle body. please make them recall this part before someone gets killed! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the maintenance warning light was illuminated. the contact had to turn off and restart the vehicle in order to temporarily remedy the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the failure was caused by the ethanol and gasoline in the throttle body. as a result, the throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no further assistance. the failure mileage was 40,000. the current mileage was 50,000. updated 7/15/13 *cn the consumer stated the vehicle would lose power while driving down the highway.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerked forward harshly and stalled. the contact restarted the vehicle and after driving a few miles the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. after diagnosis, they advised her that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure and current mileages were approximately 20,000. the vin was unavailable. *tr
While driving loose power, have to stop and shut off and restart vehicle to get throttle response back. had to have throttle body replaced. there are several cases of this listed on internet. should be the same issue as in your investigation pe13003. i would like to be kept informed if this turns into a recall, as i would like ford to reimburse me for the cost of replacing the throttle body. *tr
Was heading home down a narrow back hill when my car lost all acceleration. had to coast down the hill & when i reached the bottom i was able to restart the car and it started right back up. the dealership told me i needed to change a filter & my battery was bad. bought a new battery at sears did not have the money for the filter (+plus i was told that was probably not the problem). last week merging onto an expressway ramp @ 60mph it bogged down to 0 rpms and i thankfully was able to get over so i was out of the way of the traffic so i could shut the car off and on (took me several xs) so i could finish my errand. this has happened to my numerous times now so i am hesitant to even take this car on the expressway. now i am finding throttle body problems and it sounds like what my car is doing. if there are so many of these complaints why is ford not made to fix this problem...y do we have to shell out the $500.00 to fix a car that is 3 years old. *tr
***throttle body**** during several times of driving at low speeds, i accelerated and the rpm on the car jumped suddenly and stuck at a high position for several seconds in which the car slowed to a stop. the "wrench" light then came on and after turning the car off and on i was able to maintain use of it. this is happening frequently. *tr
Shortly after i purchased my 2010 ford fusion back in february of this year i noticed when i started my vehicle and hit the 20-25 mph my car hesitates to go into gear and when it does it jerks. i took it into my dealership and at first i was told they found trans codes then i was told that was a miscommunication. i was told it did this because the car was cold. i have never owned a vehicle that did this when it was cold. upon researching known issues with this vehicle i came across the throttle body issue and am wondering now if that is my issue without the stalling issue. will continue to go back and forth with the dealership and ford motor company until my issue is taken care of. *jb
Traveling on the pa turnpike the engine just stalled. we had to negotiated to the side of the road with no ability to negotiate around traffic. notified ford and sands red hill ford and they said there was nothing wrong. it happened again traveling around 45mph. i saw complaints online (web) and paid sands to have them replace the throttle body. after replacement the problem was fixed. the cost was 385.51. *tr
Last week, as i was accelerating from a stop, my ford fusion cut back to about 5 mph and i slowly chugged home. turned it off and restarted and still the same. waited about an hour and restarted and it worked fine. today as i was coming home at 70 mph it did the same. so i turned the engine off and waited awhile and restarted it. it worked okay. i have read that this a problem with ford fusions that is being investigated so i'll like to add my complaint to the investigation. *tr
While driving on i-49 so., approx. 60 mph in peak morning traffic, the engine stalled. luckily i was able to pull over to the shoulder. noticed a "wrench" icon lit on dash. turned off engine and after a few minutes, re-started engine. all clear on dash, so continued on to work. called hub city ford and brought car in the next morning. the "throttle body" was changed. no other warning or lights came on. *tr
1st incident: pulled into traffic, lost all power. car began to run rough. coasted to side road to pull off. after sat idle for 5 minutes, car started and drove fine. ford claimed could not find anything wrong. 2nd incident (5/21/2013): lost all power while in passing lane going 75 mph on i-75, just south of ocala, fl. after sat idle for 5 minutes, car started and drove fine remainder of trip. did not take car in. 3rd, 4th & 5th incidents (5/24/2013), lost all power when doing in-town driving. ran vehicle health report said issue with trottle control (?). again sat idle a few minutes restarted car and drove fine for short period of time. 4th & 5th incidents happened in 15-20 drive to dealership. *tr
Loss of power at highway speed. vehicle decelerated and would only idle. wrench symbol lit. shut car off restarted and car was ok until next incident. failures became more frequent including failures in rush hour highway traffic. additional failures occurred at slower speed. diagnostic at the dealer was a throttle body failure. *tr
As i accelerated from a red light, the car sputtered and seemed to stall. the wrench light flashed on but didn't stay on. since it drove fine after that, we didn't take it in. about a month later, it happened again. i researched it online and realized many people are having the same problem. we called ford and scheduled an appointment. it happened 6 times in a 20 minute drive before we got it. ford replaced (at a charge to us!) the throttle body and it has been fine since. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, he attempted to accelerate but the accelerator pedal sunk into the floorboard. the failure was recurring. the contact was able to disengage the pedal by tapping it twice. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 21,000 and the current mileage was 26,000. updated 3/5/14*cn updated 03/21/14
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated while driving approximately 15 to 20 mph the vehicle would not accelerate. the contact restarted the vehicle and it began to function normally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the failure and advised her that the electronic throttle body sensor was jammed in the closed position and needed to be replaced. the throttle body sensor was repaired. the manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000. the current mileage was approximately 50,800.
While traveling at highway speeds car will stall and have no power. found to be throttle body sensor. ford claims that there was no problem with the throttle body, but if you search the internet you can see several of cases involving the same problem. i feel ford should have to repair under a recall because of such a wide spread problem. this is a huge safety concern when traveling and highway speeds and you lose power. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle responded slowly to acceleration attempts. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. the throttle body was replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 16,500. the vin was unavailable.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was stated that the throttle body needed to be replace. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while decelerating from 70 mph and then attempting to re-accelerate, the vehicle did not respond immediately. the engine rpms increased but the vehicle would not accelerate any faster than 20 mph. after several moments, the vehicle accelerated rapidly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that no failure codes were generated. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileage was 63,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced sudden acceleration several times. the contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer three times and was told they could not find a problem with the vehicle. the vehicle was scheduled to go back to the dealer. the failure was 8,000 and the current mileage was 9,000. updated 4/24/13 *cn updated the consumer stated that the dealer advised the consumer was pressing the gas and brake at the same time. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred. 06/10/2013 *js
While turning left on a green arrow my accelerator became unresponsive, engine did not stop running but would only coast @ about 2 mph, wrench light icon and check engine light came on. the car was jerking during this slow coast to the side of the intersection. i had to put the car in park and completely shut it off.(as i was hitting my hazard lights and praying i didn't get hit by oncoming traffic as the light had changed by this time.) after a rough restart, it appeared to run fine. i took it to the mechanic and had my fuel system cleaned, but after doing research and finding many owners of the ford fusion have had this recurring problem, seemingly with their throttle body, i am very afraid to drive my car as this problem occurs with no warning beforehand and at all different speeds. i did notify ford customer service and was told that they had no customer service complaints about this problem. when i informed them of all the complaints online, they explained that they only acknowledge "official ford websites". i pray that ford will issue a recall and fix this problem before somebody dies. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at a high speed, the vehicle jerked and lost power as the service vehicle soon warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. the vin was unavailable.
The first instance i was driving as normal in my vehicle and with out warning going 50 mph my car shut off with no power or ability to do anything besides to try and coast off the road and out of harm. a wrench light flashes when it occurs. the second time i was making a turn at approx 20 mph in a four way light intersection and lost power over the car again with a wrench light appearing again. the only way to gain power again is to put the car in park turn it off and wait a bit to restart the vehicle. when you restart the car the wrench light is gone and the car acts like there was never a problem and runs smoothly. after a 2 day diagnosis by ford they state that the throttle body is the cause of the problem. in total i have had this happen 5 times with out any warning going various speeds and luckly avoiding multiple accidents. like mentioned above after starting the car the wrench light disappears performing as usual. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was merged to the shoulder and was able to be restarted. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer who stated that the fuel throttle body may have caused the failure. the vehicle did not receive a full diagnostic test. the failure mileage was 41,000. *tr
I had come to a stop light and was turning right when the car went into limp mode. second time about two weeks later i was turning onto a entrance ramp to an interstate and was accelerating when it went into limp mode. it happened again two weeks later. about three weeks ago i was idling when the car totally cut off. i restarted it drove 5 miles and it went into limp mode when i was pulling into a parking lot. yesterday it happened when i was doing a steady 70 mph on the interstate. today when i was doing 65 mph on the interstate. each time, i pulled over, turned the ignition off and restarted the car which ran normally after that. *tr
The first occurrence was when i was beginning to accelerate at around 50 mph. the engine lost power and my engine and wrench light came on. car began to shake and there was no response from the engine just high rpm's and no movement. i pulled over and turned the car off. when i restarted the car, the engine light was on but the wrench light was off. i continued to drive but about 20 miles down the road it did it again. at the time i thought i had got a bad batch of gas. i had filled up that morning. the engine light went out and i drove for another 10,000 miles before it happened again in downtown traffic. now the car will only go about 2-3 miles before the it goes into the limiting mode. i talked to the dealership and they told me it is the throttle body. they are on at least a week back-order because they can't keep up with the demand of the faulty part. *tr
While driving in the middle lane on the interstate at 70 mph, vehicle suddenly lost acceleration, tachometer started going up and down, and car became unresponsive. was able to get car over to shoulder. turned car off, attempted to drive again and immediately started the same problem. i had to get the car towed. this could have caused a serious accident if i was not able to change lanes as quickly as i did. was told by dealer the throttle drive body needed to be replaced. the car has only 23000 miles. *tr
There have been multiple occurrences but the most common is while driving, the little wrench light comes on out of nowhere and the car starts to shake and lose power. i have to pull over to the side of the road and completely turn off the engine. once i restart it, it will drive for a few miles and do it again. sometimes it will do it just once and other times, like this morning on the highway, it did it 3 times. i fear for my safety and for those around me. there is absolutely nothing i can do to prepare for it because it does it always without warning. i can't even buy the part to fix it due to a nationwide backorder. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated to 2 mph. the contact had to shut off and restart the engine in order for the vehicle to become responsive to acceleration attempts. the range warning light was illuminated after the failure occurred. the dealer performed a diagnostic, but was unable to locate a failure code. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 53,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the throttle failed. the contact merged to the shoulder, powered off and restarted the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician advised that there were no failures however, the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the electronic throttle body was replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 49,502.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph and attempting a turn, the engine stalled with the illumination of the wrench warning icon. the vehicle was restarted and resumed normally. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the throttle body was replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 53,000. updated 4/1/13 *cn
At approx. 52k while drive approx. 40mph, all fuel power was lost and 'wrench' light came on. had to coast to a stop, car sputtering. put in park and killed the engine. waited a minute, car started with some hesitation. ran diagnostic, nothing. about an hour later, ran some b-12 through fuel; cured. twice again at approx. 56k, same thing (once at 70mph on the interstate and the other at 55mph on a busy highway); ran b-12 both times. on third event, it finally gave a reading - throttle body stuck in open position. brought vehicle to ford dealership, they got the same reading and changed the throttle body to the tune of $350. ford stated there was no technical service manual indication of problem forcing a possible recall. how lucky for me and my kids that we weren't in a high-traffic situation and i could safely maneuver to the shoulder...all three times! *tr
Driving on my way home. a wrench light illuminated in the dash and the car lost it power instantly. slowing down to a complete stop. my latest incident was much scarier. i was on the cross island parkway in the bronx going with the traffic. thank god i was in the shoulder, it happened again. the car was going about 60 mph and the same thing happened. i was able to get on the shoulder with out anyone running into the back of me. the car came to a complete stop and was jerking like crazy. i turned it off and it started back up and i went from bronx ny to eastern long island scared as hell in the right lane just in case it happened again. and there are other times as well. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving various speeds, the vehicle engaged into neutral independently and stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 36,200. *tr
I was driving down a local road at the limit when the wrench light warning indicator came on, after the indicator was on there was not throttle response, engine was still running and yet no power going to the wheels. i was able to roll over to the side of the road and put on hazard warning lights, car while at idle was jerking and bucking. i then limped the vehicle to a parking lot, placed it in drive and filmed the issue with a cell phone in a parking lot and narrated as to what was happening. once the vehicle was shut down and then restarted the light went out and the problem did not persist. i took it to the dealership and no codes showed up in a diagnostic and the dealership "could not reproduce the problem" but suspected it was the throttle body controller as this was a common occurrence. *tr
Traded in our ford freestyle to purchase used 2010 fusion vehicle in september 2013 with 53,000 miles and a 30-day warranty. this was our third ford vehicle and we've enjoyed dependability, comfort and safe driving with our previous fords, so we saw no need in purchasing a warranty. one month later, we were struck by hurricane sandy. our honda crv-06 parked along side the fusion was nearly totaled by a downed tree but not a scratch to the fusion just few inches away. now, we wish that the fusion would have been in it' place. we noticed a rubbing right away to find our the stamford dealership sold us a car with summer tires and warped rims. december 2012, light came on which looked like a fuel cap. they told us it's a sensor and would cost $300.00 part is on back order. they reset light. *tr
I was driving at 40mph on a busy main road i pulled into the turning lane when the light turned green my car would not accelerate. i was almost hit from behind due to the car not accelerating this has consistently happened at least 8-9 times in a 4 day period. *tr
Engine stalled requiring me to pull over to the side of the road. dips and surges in power happen quite frequently. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle went into limp mode then stalled. the contact also stated that the failure occurred when at a complete stop or driving 65 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice who ran a diagnostic test and the codes showed a throttle body failure. the dealer cleaned the throttle body but the failure recurred. the contact then took the vehicle to a private mechanic who replaced the throttle body. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 71,449 the consumer stated the problem occurred at idle and highway speeds. the vehicle would have no throttle response, and the engine would go to idle or completely stall, and the wrench and check engine light would illuminate.
This is the second time in a month that we have had to have the throttle body repaired. the first time, there were error codes that could be used to correct the problem but in less than a month the same problem occurred and this time the entire throttle body has to be replaced. while driving the car lost the ability to accelerate and all propulsion systems did not work. the brakes worked fine but there was no response from the car when i pressed down on the accelerator. this problem needs to be fixed and a recall should be ordered. i have had to pay for this problem 2x and could have been hurt when i was unable to accelerate on the highway and just able to get off the road in time. *tr
The vehicle stalled/lost power, while making a turn at 15-20 mph. i took it to dealership to have it checked. i was told that they couldn't find a problem. it happened a second time while trying to merge into a highway at about 40 mph. i called for a tow truck. while waiting i tried to start it after 15/20 minutes. it started, but waited for tow truck since i was afraid to get on the road. it was looked at again at the dealership repairshop and was told that the problem couldn't be found, but that perhaps the throttle system needed to be cleaned after 30,000 miles. this cost around $250. the problem happened a third time at about 10 miles per hour on may 17, 2013. this time the vehicle didn't start as in the past. had both engine light and wrench light. had to be towed. this time, the dealership repairshop, norris ford techs, said that it was definitely the throttle mechanism and that it had to be replaced. it was in the shop for three days since they had to order the part. despite this major repair, it happened again today, june 7, 2013. i had the cruise control set at 55mph. the car lost power, started shaking, and stalled. i've been luckily so far that noone has hit me from the back, but i'm very concerned and afraid that i decided to report it. this ford fusion problem needs to investigated. *tr
Was accelerating to enter freeway when engine went to idle and car began to slow down. pulled onto median and tried to rev engine but no response. turned engine off and back on and the car drove fine for a few minutes before exhibiting same behavior. this time pulled off freeway and waited for someone to come get the car. after 30 minutes or so we tried the car again and it drove fine all the way to the dealership. once there they determined that the throttle body was bad and charged us quite a bit to replace it. *tr
2010 ford fusion on nov 8 2012 driving approximately 67 miles per hour with cruise control on and set, vehicle suddenly lost all engine power. repair light (lighted wrench) came on, cruise control went from green to amber. engine remained on but accelerator no longer worked. when accelerator depressed, engine did not respond. vehicle coasted to a stop. brakes, steering, and lights still worked. once stopped, shifted to park and depressed the accelerator and still no response from the engine. turned car off. restarted car. restart took a few extra seconds but did start. car operation returned to normal. cruise control worked. no further issues. weather was clear, no rain or wind, road was smooth. *tr
We had just bought our 2010 ford fusion 10 days prior to this incident. i had just picked up my children from school and when i was leaving the school parking lot i had too come to a complete stop (which is on a downward slope) when trying to accelerate the car lost all power and had shut off, i had no control of course and rolled right in front of an oncoming school bus that was in other lane. the bus had to come to a complete stop to avoid hitting us. it cranked right back up but seemed a little sluggish. my little girl was screaming for me to turn (which i was trying but could do nothing) she was very upset and crying. it never showed any sign of problems before hand. i contacted the dealer we purchased it from and they said they could do nothing it was not a ford dealer it was used when we bought it with 50000 miles. i contacted a ford dealership and they said unless it showed a sign they could do nothing i have tried other mechanics and nothing. we did have throttle body checked and it was fine. we have had several incidents of it shutting off with no warning and it is a regular basis it seems to not want to go when i press the accelerator.it seems slow to respond. the shutting off of the car only seems to happen when im trying to take off from a stopped position then it will die right after it starts going. this makes me very nervous and not want to go anywhere. we haven't had it long so we cant get rid of it due to the negative we have in the car and cant afford higher pmt. i will never go with ford again not saying that all are like this, but one bad apple can spoil them all for me. *tr

2010 ford fusion. consumer writes in regards to throttle problems. * smd the consumer stated twice, within the past two weeks, while driving at speed, the engine suddenly, and without any action by him, went to idle. the accelerator pedal had no effect. fortunately, he was able to coast out of traffic. after a few minutes wait, the engine restarted and ran fine. the local ford dealer diagnosed the problem as being in the throttle body and it was replaced, presumably with an identical part. updated 01/23/13 updated 05/13/13
The car would not accelerate. it did not lose its braking or steering, but we had no choice but to pull over. *tr updated 11/07/12*lj updated 11/15/12
Throttle body failure: fist occurrence- driving on highway all of a sudden no power. pressing on the gas nothing happens. no check engine light came on. pulled off to the side of highway and put the car in park. the car starting shaking and the wrench light came on. turned car off, then back on and everything was okay. about 6 hours later this happened again as i was passing in the fast lane, then suddenly lost power. again, no check engine light. same scenario as the first. took it to my mechanic and no error codes register. he checked twice. so for a week and a half the car was fine. then happened twice again, no warning, just lost power. this time a check engine light came on after i put the car in park. had it towed to the auto shop and a code did register this time. had it taken for ford and they had to replace the throttle body. this was a very dangerous situation especially when speeding up to pass as the speed limit on that part of the highway is 75 so cars were coming up fast behind me. if i had caused an accident and injuries occurred the fist or second time it happened on the highway, it would have seemed my fault and there would have been no error codes to at least validate what happened. please, please, issue a recall for the throttle body before someone is hurt. not to mention the people just out of warranty that have to pay for this repair. *tr
