Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

As i was driving to the store my car stalled, there was a complete loss of power. a wrench symbol appeared as well as the check engine light. after restarting the vehicle i was able to move another 200 feet before it happened again, repeatedly i would need to put it in park, shut off the vehicle and begin again. this has happened about 10 times since last night. i am not unable to safely travel to work or any other location due to this situation. *tr

While driving on an interstate hwy in cruise control, the engine began to misfire and lost most of the power. i shifted into neutral, still missing and little power. the wrench light came on and per the owners manual is the throttle control/transmission issue i shut the engine down and after a few minutes, restarted the engine. everything then ran smoothly for the rest of the 20 mile trip will take car to ford dealer. *tr

On the highway traveling at 65 mpg with cruise control on, the car jerked. the yellow wrench came on. i had no acceleration and car was bucking. i rolled to the break down lane put it in park and it continued to buck. turned key off. turned back on. it was like hitting the reset button. drove another 15 miles and it happened again. it did it a third time. still 45 miles away i reduce speed to 55 trying not to touch the accelerator and was able to get it home. lucky for our family we were not on a busy highway or we would have been caught dead in the middle. there was no acceleration. all we could do is cruise to a stop. very dangerous and scary situation. it was diagnosed as the throttle body by ford. *tr

While i was up to speed (65 mph), the car's wrench light came on, and lost power. all of the electrical systems were still functioning, but the car would not accelerate. i waited a few minutes, tried the car again, and it made it to my destination, and went trouble-free on the return trip home. the car had the same occurrence on monday, july 8. at that time, i called roadside assistance who came and towed the car to the dealer that services my car. i was told that the throttle body had to be replaced. estimated repair cost: $387.00. *tr

I was driving on the freeway with my child when my car started jerking and the vehicle lost all power. i had to hurry and put my flashers on and try to get on the side of the road. the jerking caused my driver side seatbelt to pull tight and left marks on my shoulder. a wrench light by the park button came on and was lighted up. i put the car in park and restarted it. the car started and i proceeded to head to the dealership. the car did the exact same thing but this time the check engine light came on. i pulled over and had my car towed to the dealership. this morning they called and said my throttle body needs replaced. the service dept told me they have replaced several of these the last few months and the parts are on back order. he said it can be 7-10 days before the part comes in. this part needs to be recalled. any passenger can get seriously hurt or injured if going high speeds on the interstate when this part goes out. ford needs to do a voluntary recall but if not, the nhtsa needs to . *tr

My 2010 ford fusion is having the same problem as numerous others...the throttle body. .....mechanics are telling me it will cost me about 600 $ to repair. ....this is an ongoing scam in part by ford.... im sure they know about this....i promise you i will trade this car in ford a honda accord....atleast they run honestly.. *tr

Driving car down the street and it went into idle mode. had to pull off street. car had no power. turned car off and waited a couple of minutes and restarted. ran fine for a while after that. the failure happened more frequently as time went by. had throttle body replaced on july 18. car has ran fine since then. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate. the failure recurred intermittently while driving at different speeds. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the throttle body would have to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 51,000. *tr

I was driving down highway at 65mph when the engine jerked and car stopped accelerating. luckily there was no one to the right of me so i was able to pull over. once on the side of the road, the car started to jerk violently even while in park. i had it towed to a ford dealership and was told the throttle body assembly was defective. i could have died! *tr

While getting onto the interstate the accelerator failed the wrench light came on i pulled to the side of the road shut the car off restarted it drove another 10 miles and again same issue restarted and drove less than 5 miles and again restart drive less than 1 mile and yet again i called three different ford dealerships and none of them have the part to even think about fixing this problem this needs to be recalled asap as some people don't have $400-$700 including myself to say ok ford here is my car fix it while waiting a week to a month for it. *tr

Http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2010/ford/fusion/power+train traveling on interstate at 55 miles per hour when the car lost power and the wrench light came on it was all that could be done to avoid a highspeed accident. when the vehicle wa restarted it ran fine. however it continues doing this. the dealer says the throttle unit ($600) needs replaced this after the transmission was just replaced. we called the ford customer service it took three weeks for their representative to return the call and he had the nerve to ask "what did we expect him to do"? with the web the companies can no longer lie the dealer and ford first stated it was the first they heard of this, yet there are lawsuits everywhere. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine light on two separate occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 113,000. *tr

***** bad throttle body******** my wife and son was driving and the car just shut off going through a interaction a car almost hit them to the rapid loss of speed. this is not the first time. when this happens you have no power and very little control of the car. this has happen about four times now. looks like ford is doing nothing about this and after this did it on me today 6/27/13 someone is going to get killed in a accident or hurt real bad. from looking at all the reviews this is a defect in the throttle body. this should be on a recall list before someone is hurt or worst. please help us get this on a recall list. thank you. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact mentioned that the wrench icon and the check engine warning light illuminated. in addition, the contact stated that there was smoke coming from under the hood of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 63,000. *tr

The car's throttle-body failed instantly, and without warning while it was being driven on a major secondary road. the failure resulted in a complete loss of power and required immediate emergency action to get off the two travel lanes (during rush-hour in northern virginia), and nearly resulting in an accident. i was only 1/4 mile from entering interstate 66, which did not have a safe shoulder during the time of the failure, and which would have resulted in a much more dangerous situation. *tr

Car was stopped at stop light. when light turned green, the car would not accelerate , but only creep along. fortunately, there was a parking lot just across the intersection where car was stopped. towed to dealer where they told us it needed a new electronic throttle. *tr

Vehicle stalled, wrench light on dash lit. i went to side of road, depressed accelerator but engine did not respond. idled only, idle was rough , engine jerked. after 2 minutes i turned engine off then started the engine with normal result, wrench light was off and vehicle idled normally. i drove 20miles home. will take vehicle to dealer 6/26, i believe this is a dangerous occurrence as stalling at a higher speed in traffic could be deadly. *tr

While traveling aprox 65mph down a 4 lane hwy at 6:20 am on 6/24/13, my car began to decelerate and would not respond/accelerate when the gas pedal was pressed. the red "wrench" light lit up on the information center on the dash board. i managed to get the car to the side of the road before it finally cut off. i waited a minute or two and tried attempted to restart the engine and it restarted successfully. i was able to cautiously continue driving until i reached a ford dealership later that morning at which point they told me it the throttle body. they went on to say that ford was not covering this repair and that there was no recall in effect! this repair cost me $300 of which i could not spare from my budget! thankfully there were no cars or tractor trailer behind when my car began to decelerate! this needs to be a safety recall immediately, before many people are killed!!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the wrench warning icon. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined that the throttle body had failed. the dealer cleaned the throttle body and the failure recurred. the failure and the current mileage was 39,000. *tr

Coming home from work my car started to have difficulties keeping speed. soon after my car lost engine power. this happened twice while on my way home within 15 minutes of each other. when i brought my car in the report i was given says "code p2111 present" when means that the throttle body needs to be replaced. i haven't even had my car for a year. *tr

While driving the vehicle would lose all power and would not respond to the acceleration pedal. it would require pulling to the side of the road and shutting the engine off for 3-5 minutes before being able to continue. this happened 7-10 times in the same day. the "check engine" light finally came on and stayed on. we took it into the nearest auto parts store who ran it through the computer and it was the "throttle position sensor" which required replacing the entire "throttle body". this nearly caused a wreck every time it happened. *tr

While driving my 2010 ford fusion, at a normal speed of 45 mph, the car's acceleration cut off completely while driving on the road. i noticed this when i pushed on the gas pedal and noticed that i could not accelerate or move my car beside coasting. luckily, i was able to safely get off the road, however, if i was on the highway, i might have gotten in to an accident. after parking my car, i noticed the rpms were jumping a bit, and an orange wrench appeared on my dashboard signal. i turn off the vehicle, and tried turning it on again. the vehicle gave a slight hesitation and then started right up. this incident happened one other time with the same result. i took my car to the dealership to get fixed, and they indicated that this was a very common issue they have been seeing with my vehicle. the problem related to the throttle body, in which gets stuck and shuts down the engine. they indicated that this was a wide spread issue that is currently being investigated. my complaint is that this is a potential hazard that could cause an accident involving injury or death. this part needs to be recalled, as it is a common occurrence in my vehicle. i am lucky i was able to guide my car off the road. had i been on the highway or on the train tracks, i could have caused a serious accident. *tr

This was the third time it has happened. first time, replaced battery ($100). car suddenly dies and loses all power. able to restart, but with difficulty. very dangerous, especially with a three-year old! was driving to the dealer to get it looked at and was going 60 mph and it just died, luckily was by an off-ramp so could exit freeway. after looking it up online (car is at the dealer as we speak and they have no clue on what's wrong), i determined it's a throttle body issue. very dangerous!!!!! *tr

Throttle body is apparently defected...when i try to accelerate the car shuts off and you lose throttle. you have to stop and restart the car to regain any speed. this happened 8 times in a 3 mile area. taken to have the problem looked at and was given codes p2112, p2111, po685. apparently on line this is a real issue with ford fusions and the part is on back order with ford dealerships. this is a real safety hazard as driving in traffic just shuts off at any given time. *tr

While driving about 45mpg my car 'stalled'. sudden loss of acceleration but motor was still running, wrench light popped on. i pulled over and let the car sit for a few minutes and upon restarting it the car ran ok. took it to discount auto and pulled no codes. thouht it was a fluke. it has happened 2 more times in the last 2 weeks. the last time it happened i was puttering to the shoulder of the road and was almost hit by an oncoming car. my 3 children and husband were in the car. took it to mechanic and was told i will need to replace throttle body but it is on back order for 2-4 weeks, possibly more. in the meantime i refuse to put my daughters back in this deathtrap ford calls a car. and like most people we can only afford one car so this is a huge inconveince to us. how many more cases need to be filed, how many more teriffied consumers will it take before a recall is done?!? plus drivetrain warranties supposedly do not cover these repairs. i come from a looong line of ford family but i am counting down the days until i can get out of this car. *tr

Cruise control on 65mph@2000rpm with no input from driver, rpm suddenly jumps to 3500 no speed change, loss of power or jerking of car. turn off cruise control, rpm drops to 2000 smoothly, all seems fine. turn on cruise control again, rpm jumps immediately to 2700, again smoothly. turn off cruise control, rpm drops again to 2000. drive home w/o cruise control no problem. on trip to dealer for diagnosis the wrench icon appears on dash when the accelerator becomes suddenly completely unresponsive. motor runs smoothly but doesn't react to accelerator. pull over, turn off motor, wait 1-2 min. wrench icon is gone, all seems okay, drove on to dealer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle became resistant to acceleration attempts. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximately failure mileage was 64,000 and the current mileage was 65,000. *tr

There has been several incidents over the past 2 days. the first time it happened i was making a left turn, i tried to accelerate but there was none. the engine felt like it was shaking. i pulled over after finally getting through the intersection, turned off the car and then after a few minutes, restarted it and it ran fine. that evening on my way home from work i was driving down the street and it did the same thing. a wrench light came on the dash display. the same thing has happened 6 times. its almost like it resets itself if i turn the car on and off. the wrench light also turns off once i turn the car on and off. *tr

Car automatically lost speed going up hill to stop sign. would not accelerate. went dead. cars were behind me and passing on busy street in front of me. took car to dealership. didn't correct problem. had to take back. on the way, went dead pulling out onto major highway with morning traffic coming. finally got cranked. went on trying to get to dealership and went dead again in major intersection. got to dealership. throttle body part on national back order. been 8 days and part still not in. *tr

Traveling on the freeway this morning, when my vehicle suddenly slows to a crawl, and i lose power to the gas pedal. i just miss being hit by a semi-tractor which had been behind me. i was able to motion my car across three lanes to the side of the freeway. after shutting the vehicle off, and restarting the vehicle it seemed to run normal until about 50 miles down the road when the same thing happened again. i am afraid to drive the car at this point. dealership claims they are now sure what the cause is, but have seen this numerous times. *tr

I was driving on a busy road when my car stopped. i pushed the gas and it would not go. i barely pulled over and turned the car off. after several minutes it restarted. i almost got rear ended the following day because it did the same thing on a hill. i had two small children in the car this time. i called the dealership and they said it is a faulty throttle body. they said it would cost me over $500 to fix and the part would take several days to come in due to it being on back order from it happening so often. i almost got hit with my three year old and 6 month old in the car. this is a major safety issue. it happens out of no where and at any speed. thank goodness i wasn't on the highway with my children!!! ford needs to step up and make this a safety recall!! the dealer said he is seeing it in mostly all 2010-2012 fusions. *tr

I was driving on a highway going about 40 and the car stalled and lost all power with no response to pressing the pedal. it was idling very rough and the wrench light and check engine light came on. i shut the car off and restarted and it seemed fine until i got on the interstate. while driving on the interstate it stalled around 15 times in 20 miles. it stalled going 75 mph a few times and also stalled countless times in traffic when i was stopped and tried to accelerate. this was very scary and is an extremely dangerous issue. on the way home i experienced the same problem and rode with my hazards on in fear of being rear-ended. *tr

The first time the problem occurred i was a 4 lane with the cruise set a 65. the car lost all power and at the same time! the wrench light came on. i braked the car and pulled over off the road, the cars engine was running extremely rough so i turned of the ignition. after waiting a few minutes restarted the car got back to speed and the same thing happened- lucky for me no traffic around at the time. the forth try the car ran fine the rest of the 6 miles left to work. that night going home from work- same thing- loss of all power and wrench light- made it off the road again safely. restarted the car and it ran fine- about 3 miles to home. over the next few days it did the same thing several more times then ran fine for about a week. turns out that was just the start of the fun! : [ now it started losing power at busy intersections in town, as i was pulling into traffic on a 4 lane that traffic was moving 55mph. *tr

During initial acceleration the car will lose power and start shaking sporadically. the car will not stall but it does not accelerate even when the gas peddle is depressed. the car has to be restarted to stop behavior. check engine light appeared after the behavior persisted for about a week. brought car to an auto zone for an odbii reading. the codes that were reported are as follows: p2111: throttle actuator control system - stuck open. p0457: evap small leak detected brought car to ford dealer as problem persisted. ford dealer diagnosed problem as electronic throttle body failure. electronic throttle body was replaced. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph the engine and throttle warning indicators illuminated continuously. the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was engaged. the vehicle was coasted onto the emergency lane and within fifteen minutes the vehicle began to function normally. the failure recurred several times. a certified mechanic performed a diagnostic test that detected a trouble code related to the throttle body. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

On june 18, 2013 while driving home from work i was stopped a yield sign waiting for traffic to clear which would allow me to enter a main road. when traffic was clear i pressed the accelerator and began to proceed. within one or two seconds i lost all power in my accelerator and the rpms were not moving in my dashboard. as i steered my vehicle to the side of the road my car began to jerk as i put my vehicle in park; roughly 100 feet from where i pulled from. it is important to note the wrench on the dashboard turn on when my vehicle came to rest. i turned my car off and put my hazards on. i waited several seconds then turn the car on. it had trouble starting but did start. i noticed the wrench on again but it quickly turned off. if the road was not clear when i pulled from the yield sign i would have caused and accident after starting my vehicle and proceeding down the road about 1 mile the vehicle had the same sequence of losing power in the accelerator and jerking to a stop as i put the vehicle in park. this time the road had widened to a tow lane road overpass of an interstate. my vehicle came to a stop just before the entrance to the interstate. the posted speed limit is 35 mph but people typically accelerate to 50 mph preparing to enter the highway. coming to a stop before the interstate on ramp thankfully did not cause an accident but did cause a small traffic slow down as i pulled to the side of the road. again i was able to start the vehicle with a little trouble and this time i noticed the wrench and check engine light on. after dropping my vehicle off on june 19, 2013 i received a call from the ford dealership advising the issue was related to the throttle body and that it would need to be replaced. i authorized the work because i need a reliable car and do not want to fear for my safety while driving the vehicle. *tr

Driving down the highway i lost the ability to accelerate, and the car went to a quick decelerate. luckily there was not much traffic, and i was able to safely pull to the side of the road. the car almost stalled once i got completely stopped. i turned the car off for about 30 seconds, and restarted it. it started up a little slow, but was quick to go back to normal. this was on tuesday morning. on friday afternoon the same symptoms (no acceleration, and a quick deceleration) but this time i was traveling approximately 60 mph in heavier traffic. i was in the left lane, and my only option was to pull off to the left, because i was not traveling fast enough to try and get through the traffic to the right. turned it off, about a minute later i started it again, and i went on my way. then this morning (06/25/13) it happened 2 times on my way to work. i have been driving in the right lane, just in case it happened again, and it is a good thing i did. i consider this to be a safety hazard, as traveling at high speeds, and not being able to safely get pulled over presents a lot of danger for myself and other drivers. i took my car to the repair shop to have them look at the code, and they told me it points to a throttle body issue. after reading numerous reports of similar situations and symptoms, i think this is something that needs to be addressed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact was driving approximately 40 mph when the vehicle suddenly lost power and would not accelerate. the vehicle was transported to the dealer where the electronic throttle body was replaced. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 43,000. ...updated 01-30-14 *bf updated 01/30/14

I was pulling out onto a highway and as i gave the car the gas, it suddenly would not accelerate. the car lost all power but continued to run and i noticed a light on my instrument cluster of a wrench. i pulled over and stopped the car. i turned the key off and let the car sit for a minute or two and started it back up. this has happened several times since. a couple of times this has occurred and i was moving at a considerable pace with other vehicles behind me. *tr

My husband was speeding up to pass someone when the car lost power and stopped accelerating. the vehicle behind him almost hit him because the car slowed down so rapidly. we contacted ford and they said it was the throttle body. they've had the car for almost 2 weeks-the part is on back-order. *tr

I'm also having throttle body problems in my 2010 fusion. the car has repeatedly lost power while traveling down the road at 60+ mph. the wrench and check engine light come on. it did it 4 times in one day. ford customer care acknowledged there were problems with the throttle bodies on these cars but refuses to replace them under warranty. *tr

While driving and putting my foot on the gas i could not accelerate the vehicle started to jerk. looking at the rpms they were moving up and down.. the car started to shake as i was luckily able to pull off on the side of the highway. i turned the car off and started it back up and got back on the highway. after about 5 minutes the car started to do the exact same thing. after multiple times pulling off of the highway i was able to make it home. i was on a round trip from kentucky to ohio, no more then 80 miles total, in rush hour traffic. this could have really caused a major collision!!! after getting home and researching the problem on line i cannot believe the horrific amounts of complaints about the exact same thing happening. i purchased the car 3 months ago, and cannot afford to spend what seems to be from 600-800.00 on a new throttle body. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion sel. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, there was a reduction in engine power with the illumination of the power steering warning indicator. the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. the vehicle restarted and resumed normally. the failure recurred numerous times. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000. the vin was unavailable.

While my 18-year daughter was driving the 2010 ford fusion with my 16-year son, the car shut off and the wrench light turned on. she pulled over, was upset and called me. she restarted the car and it seemed fine. then on june 18th, while driving around 55 mph, the car shuttered and shut down on me. i pulled off the road and restarted the car. today, june 24th, while driving around 35 mph, this happened to me again, the car shuttered, i could not accelerate and i had to pull off and restart the car. i have researched this issue on line and have found numerous similar stories. they all point to the throttle body/ throttle position sensor. someone is going to get killed. please recall the throttle body /throttle position sensor car and get fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact own a 2010 ford escape. the contact stated while driving the vehicle it lost all power. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 59,640. *tr

This is a complaint for an issue that has an existing preliminary evaluation - nhtsa pe13003. i purchased a 2010 ford fusion sel in july 2010. it was purchased new. in may of 2013, while driving on city streets with my 3 year old daughter, my vehicle appeared to stall as i was turning at a traffic light. while the vehicle was still powered, my ability to control the vehicle or accelerate to speeds over 5 mph was instantly removed. i was able to limp to the side of the road and restart the car, which drove normally until the next day when i was driving across town to meet the person providing me a ride to and from the ford dealership. over the course of an hour, my vehicle exhibited the same symptoms 4 separate times while trying to get to a ford dealership. the dealership reported to me the next ay that i would have to have the throttle body replaced, at a cost of $486. none of the cost would be covered under warranty, and that i would be advised to have the work done immediately as the necessary replacement part was in shortage nationwide, and the dealership only had 1 on hand. i had the part replaced, and the vehicle has functioned normally since. *tr

Driving on the highway going about 40mph my car felt like it died, it was still running but unresponsive. there was heavy traffic and i had to stop in the middle of the lane because i was in an area where there were no shoulders to coast to. once i stopped, i put it in park and restarted it, it ran fine and acted normal for a few days, and it started doing the same thing on the same stretch of highway that i use every day. only this time it kept happening about every 15 to 20 min. it is at the ford dealer now and they are telling me it has a bad throttle body and it needs to be replaced. the only problem is that they are replacing so many right now that there is a national back order and i might have to wait 3 or 4 weeks. so not only am i out several hundred dollars but i don't know when ill get my car back. ford knows there is a problem with the throttle body, they should be replacing this for free. its a defective part. and it is not very cheap. plus they are charging me $130.00 an hour to diagnose the problem that seems like everyone is already aware of. i am having the exact same symptoms as all the other throttle body people. *tr

While driving the vehicle it seemed to loose power and was idling rough. was able to pull off the road, opened the hood and the engine was shaking and running rough. vehicle was only going a couple miles an hour as driver tried to make it back to his motel, when the vehicle just turned off. driver let the vehicle sit for a minute and then tried to start it again, and it started up. the vehicle would run but it has extremely limited power. vehicle was taken to the nearest ford dealership where it was determined that it was a failed throttle body and that the part was on national back order. had to wait two weeks for the part to become available. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated while driving 70 mph the vehicle stalled and lost power immediately after the accelerator pedal was engaged. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test which indicated the throttle body was stuck in the open position and needed to be replaced. the dealer did not have the parts to replace the throttle body. the contact called the manufacturer regarding the part availability; however, they opened a case but did not provide any information. the contact did not have the throttle body replaced. the failure mileage was 65,654. ...updated 07-24-13 *bf the consumer was informed, the parts were not available. the consumer stated the vehicle would lose power immediately after the accelerator pedal was engaged.

51000 miles on car. driving 45 mph. engine wrench light comes on. engine dies. drift to side of road. starts again. wrench light comes on. engine dies again. dealer states it is the throttle body. not covered by warranty because is not part of the mechanical engine but fuel system. job in $600 range but ford has no replacement parts! they are back ordered because so many are failing all over country! this is ford's engineering problem not the customers. and someone is going to get killed. *tr
