We have classified the 779 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
I was driving down the interstate and my car started to slow down and i couldn't accelerate. pulled over and restarted the car and it drove it home. the next day the same thing happened as i was pulled out of the driveway but cutting it off and back on no longer fixed the problem. it is currently at a ford dealership the throttle body is having to be replaced. the part is on national backorder. so i definitely think this is a serious problem that should be recalled so everyone knows to have it fixed. and we shouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars to have something fixed that was faulty to begin with. *tr
Driving 45 miles per hour, when car just started shaking then stopped, glided over to breakdown lane. car started again after a minute or so went on our way. next day car stopped again, twice. took it into ford dealership. they said it was the throttle body and is on back order but we can clean it, they did and charged $250 for service. well it is happening again and again. we bought this car brand new in 2010 for our retirement car, it has only 38000 miles. we are afraid to take long trips, so we are stuck to home with only grocery store and other runs. what a retirement!!!!!!!!! we traded in a 2003 crown victoria, ford of course. my first car was a 1962, galaxie 500 and have had fords ever since, can send you pictures of all our fords. never had a ford with a problem, ever, talk about scary, we are in out upper 60s and driving this car is so really scary. we do not need to have or cause an accident. it keeps happening, sad for us. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning indicator. the failure recurred within 20 miles from the first occurrence. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the failure was related to a faulty throttle body. the vehicle was not repaired due to the part being on a nationwide back order. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure was 33,000. updated 7/22/13 the consumer stated the vehicle stalled over 20 mph. updated 08/01/11
While turning into a parking lot at a speed less than 25 mph my ford fusion 2010 stalled and began slowing down despite pressing the gas pedal and the wrench light appeared. the car was put into park and turned off. when the car was turned back on, the light was gone and began running normal. car was then parked. after 45 minutes the car was started again and driven at 25 mph for about 1 mile, after stopping at a stop sign and then turning onto a 2 lane road the car encountered the same problem and was unable to accelerate despite pressing the gas. the car was again turned off and back on, with all lights disappearing and running normal. i began drive down the road to move out of traffic, the car the encountered the same problem 3 more times in less than one half mile. a tow truck was called and car was towed to a ford dealership. the following day the ford dealership called to inform us that the problem was the fuel throttle body that needed to be replaced. they informed us that the part needed to be order but did not know when it would be in. later in the day upon talking to the dealership again they informed us that this particular part was currently on back order until june 18th/ indefinitely. *tr
The accelerator stopped working as i was starting to move after a stop light. a light went on that looked like a wrench. the ford dealer was unable to diagnose the problem after paying $134.20. happened again while driving 60 miles per hour on the freeway on 8/4/2013. the ford dealer replaced a valve and we paid $291.98. happened several times while driving 60 mph on the freeway on 8/25/2013. we researched the problem on the internet and found several drivers with this model had a malfuntioning throttle body. we told the ford dealer how to diagnose the problem. this repair cost us $654.13.
First incident: on 05/21/2013 car hesitated when pushing accelerator pedal after going downhill to a stop and then attempting to reach normal speed in our housing development (see earlier report on 07/18/2013 for confirmation number: 10525593 and car dealer receipts enclosed for 05/21/2013). ...updated 08/16/13 *bf second incident: on 06/21/2013 car did not respond beyond idle speed after pushing accelerator pedal to move from stop light and drifted to nearby parking lot with no accelerator pedal response beyond idle power (see earlier report on 07/18/2013 for confirmation number: 10525593 and car dealer receipts enclosed for 06/21/2013) ...updated 08/16/13 *bf *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. the vehicle was moved to the shoulder where it was shut down and restarted. the vehicle then functioned normally. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was determined that the throttle body needed to be cleaned. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 40,600.
Driving car on highway at approximately 55 mph. throttle body warning light came on and the vehicle died in the middle of the highway. the incident has happened on the highway 4 times since may 22, 2013. the car would not turn back on for some time and no warning lights would come on upon restart. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle lost power. the contact pulled the vehicle over and restarted it and began to function properly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they confirmed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 53,000.
My car's engine cut off at 70 mph going down the interstate. luckily no one was harmed as i was able to drift with my flashers to the side of the road. i called my local ford dealership, and they stated this was a common problem in the fusions. my car has cut off several times while driving around town also. it's extremely scary and dangerous to have no acceleration in 65 mph traffic. *tr
My fusion was towed to the ford dealership in anaheim ca. i am having to replace my 2 year old cars: electronic throttle malfunctioned while i was driving on the freeway it kept stalling even though the engine is still running, this also happened a month ago and i took it in and a diagnostic was done finding nothing wrong it showed no problems, i also video taped the event. this happened both at speeds of 60-65 and 40 miles per hour. i am on disability and it is now going to cost over $400 that i cannot afford. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and began jerking. the contact shut the engine off and restarted the vehicle. the failure recurred and the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the electronic throttle body would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000. *tr
When driving my car on the interstate, it would shake really bad anytime we got above 60 mphs. at 65, it would shut off. the engine was still running the rpms would not go above 1000. we could put the car in neutral and restart the car - no go. to get driving again, we had to stop the car completely. wait 5 minutes. and start again. this happened 5 times. the ford dealer found a problem with the electronic throttle body and is replacing it. the car is out of warranty though... *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact independently performed a diagnostic and retrieved an error code that indicated there was a failure with the throttle body assembly. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure was reported to the manufacturer. the failure and current mileage was 76,000.
As i was driving southbound outer drive barely crossing pelham my fusion lost power as described by all other thottle body failures i have read. i was almost rearended by a truck behind me that was trying to make the light. currently, there is a backorder on the throttle body assmblies and i am out of a vehicle until they deliver.. *tr
I had been driving my 2010 ford fusion sel for about 15 minutes on the highway at speeds of 65mph when suddenly i lost the ability to accelerate or maintain speed. there was no prior warning anything was wrong, and when it happened it was not accompanied with a loud noise or jolt. instead, the wrench light on the dash illuminated and i began slowing down. applying pressure to the accelerator had no effect. i quickly had to navigate across three lanes of traffic while quickly slowing as i coasted to the shoulder of the road. as the car slowed below 20 mph, it began noticeably shaking and surging. this continued once at a complete stop. i then shut the car off and waited approximately 10 minutes before trying to start it again. it cranked for a while before finally catching. i was then able to drive normally again and get off the highway to a safer location. since this occurrence, i have taken my car to the ford dealer twice. the first time they could do nothing for me as "the service engine light did not illuminate and thus no code was registered". as the issue continued and increased in frequency (now occurring at speeds as low as 20mph and 45mph, and as quickly as 2 minutes after leaving my house), i took the car back to the dealer where they were able to get it to replicate the issue while driving it. they determined it was a bad throttle body. i am now waiting on this part which is currently on back order. i was told there are over 8,000 orders ahead of me and it could be over a month before the part is ready. as a result, i have a car which is unreliable and tends to stall every time i drive it. *tr
In the past month on several occasions the throttle did not work not allowing me to accelerate. the only way i could correct it was to turn the motor off and restart the car. in a couple of these instances i was in traffic and could not move the car. i have been to the ford dealership where i bought the car (buhler ford in eatontown new jersey) and they have told me that i need the throttle body replaced but they are unable to get the part since they are on back order due to the number of cars with the same problem awaiting the part. this is a serious condition that is totally unacceptable and unsafe. i went on line and have found out that hundreds of others are having the same problem. ford needs to issue a recall on these parts and change them. i have been told that it will cost me nearly $500 to fix but they don't even know when they can get the part. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the wrench warning icon illuminated on the instrument panel as the vehicle decelerated independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where and they stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 38,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle started to shake as it reduced power independently. the contact stated that the failure was recurring and that once she powered off the engine and restarted, the vehicle resumed normally. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was advised that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and the electronic throttle body was replaced. the failure mileage was unknown, but the failure mileage was 39,000. *tr
While driving ~70 mph, my car stalled - the gas was no longer responsive and the rpm went to 1k. i was fortunate enough to be able to pull over and stop my car. between the speeds of 5 and 0 zero miles an hour, the engine shook violently (i have witnessed this with the hood up - it is abnormal) and the wrench symbol turned on as well as the check engine light. i was able to restart the vehicle within minutes and drive normally. however, this event repeated itself every 30 to 60 miles on a 300 mile trip. after this trip, the vehicle was "fine" for about six weeks, 1000-1500 miles - city or highway. however, the battery died at one point. also, there were times when the gas was not responsive - it would hiccup. occasionally the hiccup would occur during acceleration. on 6/20, the event occurred once more, but at low speed and during deceleration - 30-40 mph. i was able to restart the car twice and drive another half a mile to a parking spot. four hours later, i tried again. i was able to drive half a mile without incident, but needed to restart the car 5 to 7 times to reach a parking spot. the car was towed to a dealership where error code p2112 was produced. further investigation by the technicians suggested part ds70-9e926-d, all or part of the electronic throttle body. tsb 10-21-6 addresses a similar pair of parts in 7t4z-9e926-fa and 8s4z-9e926-b labeled "electronic throttle body" as well. the part is currently under back order with no eta on the back order. this appears to be indicative of a significant problem on a broad scale within the company's vehicles. the red mccombs dealership is currently taking the position that my car/car part is not covered under a warranty. i believe this is a serious safety concern that is the responsibility of fomoco and should be covered under warranty or taken care of by recall. *tr
I was driving on 1-95 in virginia in the left lane early in the morning with my cruise control set. all of a sudden my cruise control shut off and my car started to slow down very fast. i was lucky that no one was behind me in the left lane or else i could have been in an accident. after sitting on the side of the highway for a few minutes i restarted my car and was able to drive on the road again. about 30 minutes later my car did the same thing where the gas pedal wouldn't work and the wrench light came on. the part of the highway did not have very many exits so i had to start my car up again in order to make it to an exit with a ford dealership. once at the ford dealership i left my car to be looked at the next day. the ford dealership called me to tell me it was the throttle body and it was going to be $600. i went in to buy the part to try and replace it myself and told the car dealership that i was very upset because my car wasn't even 3 years old yet and that i was still paying on my loan. the supervisor said they had seen this issue on other fusions and was going to only charge me $300 for the part and they would handle paying for the labor costs. this is a serious issue that is very dangerous especially when it happens on the highway. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure recurred four times within a thirty day period. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but the failure could not be replicated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 39,600.
On three separate occasions, the car completely lost power. it completely ceased to function without warning. fortunately, my daughter was not injured. however, if this would have occurred as she drove at highway speed, she could have been killed. after during some research, i discovered that the problem was most likely the throttle body. we took it to the dealership where it was purchased. they confirmed my suspicions. it took close to a week for the part to come in - because - the service manager told me - there was a huge waiting list for this part because they keep failing. (plus, she was without a car.) he told me that ford really doesn't see the need for a recall at this time, even though they are well aware of the problem. people could die. on one occasion, her car failed going down a very steep and winding hill. fortunately, she was able to pull off of the road. ford's attitude about this is criminal. my other daughter also has a fusion. i worry daily about her safety. i am considering getting the throttle body changed just to keep her safe. *tr
The first time i was driving was may 11, 2013 i was going 40 miles an hour. all of a sudden the car starting slowing down to zero and the wrench light came on so i pulled off the road. i turned the car completely off and restarted the car after a few min. this time it got me home with no issues. this happened again today june 12, 2013. i was driving about 35 miles an hour and it just quit (throttle power outage) scared the day lights out of me once more. again, i pulled over and restarted the car after a pause. i then drove immediately to bo beuckman of west county, ellisville, mo. they put a call into ford hotline. i waited for an hour they still did not return a call. randy told me that he thought it maybe a throttle issue. he called for the part and it is on back order. (that is not a good sign) i told him i did not feel comfortable driving the car---afraid someone might hit me if it stalls again. he could not give me a loaner car or satisfaction, just took my cell number and will call back when he hears from ford. on line, i see this is a major issue. why wasn't there a recall for replacing the throttle body. i am very upset with ford and scared to drive my car until they find out what it is for sure and the back order issue. please help me. *tr
Fusion cut power because of a faulty throttle body at around 45 mph. this returned a code p2112 and p2111 on my code reader. once put into the shop, the ford dealer told me it may be weeks or months before a part is available and i am currently without a vehicle. my warranty only covered for 3 days for rental so now i do not have a car. very frustrating. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate upon engaging the pedal. the engine and wrench symbol warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. the failure occurred on two occasions. the throttle body assembly and actuator were replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 44,645. ...updated 06-19-13 *bf updated 06/28/2013 *js
Going over 50 miles an hour car cut off on highway likely did not get killed by the car behind me. turned off then it restarted. now does it all the time. i took it to the dealer and they are saying it is a throttle body and i do have an extended warranty but they will not cover this. no one has this part shortage. *tr
The car has cut off in traffic numerous time and 3 close calls on accidents. throttle body was the problem.called ford and they gave me a case # and said that they couldnot help knowing that the have a problem. ford mechs that i have talk to have said that they have replace alot of the throttle bodys and for will not recognize the problem probably until someone gets killed or injured while the car has completely shut down running 60mph. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 37 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was advised to the contact that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 5,760. *tr
The throttle body in my 2010 ford fusion has been malfunctioning. it will not allow me to accelerate. my incident happened on a hill, i had to go into reverse to find a safe plave to turn off my car to restart. seeking a recall for this part as i've read online this has happened to many 2010 fusion owners. *tr
Was driving for about 1 mile, then all of a sudden car was still running but no throttle on a very busy road lucky was able to get pull over . i feel that a car with only 45,504 miles should not done that . i keep my maintenance up to date. and was not cover under my warranty. that's $ 450.00 i didn't have { throttle body} that's is the first time i have felt unsafe driving my car. for being a woman that could have been on the interstate at a faster speed it could have been a disaster for everyone . thank you. *tr
Driving on interstate at highway speeds (65mph+), car suddenly lost power and slowed, shuddering as it stopped. difficult to restart, able to continue on driving for several miles before occurring again. had vehicle towed to ford dealer in the area for service. diagnosed as throttle body failure; dealer service has replaced throttle body as of 5/3/2013. *tr
The engine surges when stopped at a light or the brake is applied. this has been going on for several months. i also almost ran into items in the garage as i pulled in slowly and then it surged. i took it to the dealer to have it inspected and they said it was the mass air flow sensor and throttle body having carbon build up. *tr
Driving along and vehicle goes into limp mode. cannot accelerate. pull over turn off car and restart. car starts up and runs fine until it happens again which has happened several times now and more frequent. can't afford to pay dealer so i have to but the part and install it myself. no codes show up just a wrench. talked to the dealer and they are very familiar with the problem and told me what to replace but if i take it to them they will charge a fee for the diagnostic even though they know what the problem is, then they charge another fee for replacing the part. *tr
Advisory mechanical wrench lit up on dash - loss all acceleration power. had to coast off side of road and place transmission in park - and turn off low idle engine. this occurred 3 x's all similar this same day. prior, had complained to auto dealership about 1st couple incidents (approx) 4 other times; they indicated they found no issue. i will have codes read 1st thing in the morning, by autozone looking for p2111 and p2112 - then take it to the dealership. this is very unsafe - and now i am worried to have my wife drive alone with this vehicle. its our only car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning while driving at 65 mph. the wrench light illuminated after the failure occurred. the contact was able to coast to the shoulder. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed but the dealer found transmission fluid had leaked at the driver front tire area and also stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the dealer replaced the transmission and the brake fluid but the failure was not corrected. the contact also wanted to state that the vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for unknown electrical failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was vehicle 57,000. updated 08/27/13*lj the consumer stated while driving, the vehicle lost power to the wheels and the ability to steer became very difficult. the accelerator pedal became unresponsive. she was able to get to vehicle over to the side of the road, after she pulled over, the vehicle began to shake before she turned the engine off. also, the wrench indicator light illuminated.
Traveling on a road in orlando fl and lost speed and then eventually loosing power and had to drift off the side of the road. finally was able to start the car just to be able to get it back to my home. had to get the vehicle towed to the ford dealership and found that the throttle body had went bad. had to get it replaced. this is very dangerous when driving at a good speed and all of a sudden you loose power, thank god i didnt get in a accident. i see that there is a recall on this part with ford but my vin is not included. *js
Going 70 mph on i 75 in atlanta.. car just shut down.. almost got hit by a 18 wheeler. made it to shoulder . wrench light was on. so i guess it is the throttle body. how is this not a recall? i see many other complaints on google about the same situation with this car. *tr
This morning while traveling the interstate with cruise control set at 75mph my car had a swift jerking motion and lost all acceleration accident was a near miss trying to get off highway to emergency lane. towed to ford dealer and right away they knew it was a throttle body failure. car showed no signs of anything being wrong until incident occurred. throttle body replaced at my expense due to they say not covered under powetrain warranty. ford obviously knows there is a problem with this and refuses to acknowledge it at this time. have read several forums of numerous other people with same problem and ran across article of your investigation of ford. ford should be held responsible for there faulty parts. in the right situation some is going to lose there life related to this problem. *tr
1st incident: car stalled in traffic while going 40 mph, coasted into parking lot, restarted car and drove fine - no warning lights 2nd incident: 6 weeks later with no issues or warning lights car stalled again late at night while going 35 mph up a small rise 3rd incident: 2 days later - still no warning lights, car suddenly lost power, did not stall, but would not go over 5 mph while entering attempting to enter interstate. sat on side of interstate for 45 minutes waiting on a tow truck. i had the car towed to a ford dealership. they replaced the throttle body which cost $385. the notes on the invoice state they "retrieved code p2111 throttle system stuck open." i feel certain ford has some serious issues with these cars as the transmission has already had to be rebuilt.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the wrench warning icon and the check engine warning light illuminated as the vehicle stalled. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the throttle body would have to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 26,353. *tr
This has happened several times. as i am driving down the road both accelerating or at a constant speed, the wrench light will come on and the vehicle with no longer have throttle abilities. i have to pull off to the shoulder of the road because nothing works. as the vehicle stops and i shift into neutral, the vehicle shakes excessively. i shut the vehicle off, wait a minute, turn it back on and the wrench is gone and the vehicle runs properly until the next occurrence. ford has been notified about this for years and refuses to put out a recall on the throttle body which is the problem. *tr
I have a 2010 ford fusion, my car started surging for about 20 miles then as i was driving down the highway, it lost acceleration, the engine was running, but it lost speed it would not go, i pushed the pedal to the floor and without warning, it quit going! i had to try to guide it to the side of the road. i put my hazard lights on and sat on the side of the road. i cranked it back up and drove a few more miles surging and it cut off while driving on the highway again, very dangerous. i got it to the advance auto parts and they put a detector on it and it said it was the throttle sensor. this is very scary and dangerous and should be recalled before someone is injured or killed. *tr
On multiple occasions my car has started to stall out as i began to accelerate. the first time happened when exiting the highway, where i came to a yield sign, i then proceeded to accelerate onto the road after yielding and the car would not accelerate and started to have jumpy motions and kept revving every time i would try to step on the gas pedal. i didn't think much of it at that time. then one day on another exit onto the highway with busy traffic i slowed down to see if traffic was clear to merge and when i went to accelerate into traffic it repeated the same symptoms. the last time it happened was i was exiting the highway and once again tried to merge into traffic and it happened again but it also happened at the red light directly after the merge. i was not trying to accelerate too quickly on any of the occasions but it makes it extremely dangerous to pull into traffic. i took the car into the ford dealership to get the problem checked out and they came back that the electronic throttle body on my 2010 vehicle was bad and that they would have to replace it. they then proceeded to tell me that the part was on backorder and i was number 2 on the list to receive the part because they have three cars in the shop with the same problem. this seems to be a regular occurrence with my type of vehicle in my search for answers i have seen multiple forums with people posting about this problem. the ford associate also told me that the part should be recalled but he wasn't sure that it ever would. as someone who drives frequently on the highway this is a huge concern to me that i will go to accelerate into traffic and end up seriously injured because my car won't accelerate. needless to say it has been almost two weeks since i took my car into the dealership and i am still waiting on the part from ford. *tr
I purchased a used 2010 ford fusion with 59674 miles on 4/4/13. on the drive home i experienced a lurching occasionally when accelerating from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gears. (it is an automatic transmission.) there were no warning lights lit. the lurching continued to get worse. it bucked and idled rough. it died sometimes (mostly while idling), leaving me blocking traffic, till i could put it in neutral and restart. the lurching was the most concerning, because the car became hard to control. i had to work hard to keep from getting in an accident. i found this site and others describing the throttle body problems and i recognized that was the exact problem i was having. i called two ford dealerships, both of whom said they couldn't get the throttle body because so many are failing that there is not enough supply. one dealer said that people were just bringing in their fusions and parking them at the lot until a throttle body was found. at the dealership, the clerk was on the phone with their parts department unhappy that she had to tell a another customer it would be 3-4 weeks before they would get a throttle body for their 2010 ford fusion (not mine). i begrudgingly i authorized the $95 diagnosis fee. i waited 3 hours. then she told me they said it was a faulty maf sensor and would cost $500. i remembered reading the complaints here that others were told the same thing, only to have the problem reoccur and then have to replace the throttle body. i chose not to have the work done and left an order in the parts department for a throttle body. from the moment i drove out of the dealership the car was working fine. i think they cleaned the throttle body. i will have my mechanic install a new $70 maf and wait for the throttle body to fail eventually, as i fully expect it to do. the dealers know this is a rampant problem. this needs a recall! *tr
This happened 5 times within 2 weeks before i was able to get the issue diagnosed and fixed. i have only owned the car for 2 months. this happened at the worse possible moment every time. i live in hawaii which is known for its 4 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic (no farther than 20' apart or some one will pull in between you) going 70mph. this incident happened 4 times to me on the highway during this rush hour traffic. incident: was casually driving at a cruising speed (70 mph not accelerating) when the car shifted to 1st gear and idled at 1000-1200 rpms. i could not accelerate, and i could not shift gears manually (i have the manual override feature). nothing worked and my car quickly slowed down to a crawling speed of about 10 mph. i was in the left lane. in hawaii, that means you are stuck next to a concrete median less than 2 feet from the actual lane. this meant that i had to get from the left lane across 3 lanes traffic to the right lane with cars no farther than 20' apart going 60-75 mph while i was going 10 mph. needless to say it was not the highlight of my day/month/year... this happened 4 more times within the next 2 weeks. fortunately i learned my lesson and stuck to the right lane (of course one of these times there was no right hazard lane either so i had to drive 10mph for about 5 minutes on the highway before i could get to a turnoff). when i took it in for diagnostics nothing came up on the reading. fortunately my technician drove it and it failed on him so he was able to figure out it was the electronic throttle control. $350 (based on research usually costs about $500 but i know the tech.) later i have it fixed enough to trade it in for a foreign car. *tr
I have a ford fusion se 2010 with the same throttle body failures reported in the north carlina consumers council report from march 19 2013. the car has appoximately 74000 and pass its warranty. i would like to know what can be done to correct the problem. on the night of march 29, 2013 at approximately 11:30 pm i was driving the ford fusion when the car started to buck, the rpm gauge went up to 6 while the car was not exceeding 10 mph, came to a complete stop and the car car would not accelerate while the wrench icon was on, so i coasted the car to a complete stop were i had to turn the car off and then back on to get the acceleration to fully kick back on all this with my wife and two young children in the car. *tr
Car went into limp mode while driving, mostly on the highway. wrench light would come on and power was lost. after pulling over, turning the car off and back on again, it drove just fine like nothing was wrong. this happened 7 times over 2 months. brought the car to local ford dealership, was told i needed the throttle body replaced. the part was on backorder, so i needed to wait about 3 weeks to get the repair. cost was $550.00. *tr
I was driving through a busy intersection when there was no throttle response at alll. i managed to pull over to the side of the road and shut engine off. waited a few minutes and restarted engine again. had no problems for the rest of the day. that evening me and my young son were going out for dinner when i tried to merge into fast moving traffic the throttle response was not there. i had to swerve sharply to the right to avoid being rear ended by a semi-truck going 65 miles an hour. needless to say i had the vehicule towed to the dealer for repairs. the 3 year warrenty had exspired but the vehicule only had 25000 miles on it.i was quoted around $600 for replacement of the throttle body. this part should not have failed within the amount of miles that wee on it. i feel that ford motor company knows about this problem and is waiting for someone to lose their life before they have a recall on the part. *tr
