We have classified the 777 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
This has happened several times. as i am driving down the road both accelerating or at a constant speed, the wrench light will come on and the vehicle with no longer have throttle abilities. i have to pull off to the shoulder of the road because nothing works. as the vehicle stops and i shift into neutral, the vehicle shakes excessively. i shut the vehicle off, wait a minute, turn it back on and the wrench is gone and the vehicle runs properly until the next occurrence. ford has been notified about this for years and refuses to put out a recall on the throttle body which is the problem. *tr
We were traveling at about 30 mph on a moderately busy street. all of a sudden our car lost powder. it would barely move. luckily we were not on a busy freeway or we would have been hit by on coming cars. we were able to go chug, a chug over to a nearby parking lot. we turned off the ignition and tried to decided what we should do. my husband started the car again and it seemed to be working. we managed to get home. we drove it around locally for the weekend without a problem. on tuesday i was on a curving two lane road and it happened again. i was able to go chug, a chug until i reached a location where i could pull over to turn off the ignition. we immediately took it out to a ford dealer. they said it needed an entire throttle pod. they replaced it for $685.00. driving home we realized that the engine didn't return to idle after taking our foot off of the accelerator pedal. the rpms were set too high for safe driving. the car creeps excessively at stops. the engine continues to accelerate while applying the brake. at times, when we do press on the accelerator pedal and then remove our foot, the car has continued to advance for eight blocks with no foot on the pedal. we took the car back and were told the car was set that way from the factory because it doesn't have a "hill assist" as the 2013 cars have. these problems are extremely dangerous for safe driving. *tr
I was driving my 2010 ford fusion home from work late at night and it started sputtering and slowing down. the car shut down in the middle of an around about, thank god a policemen was behind me, because if not i would have been hit from behind. i went the next day to have the code pulled for the check engine light and found out the throttle body is sticking or going bad. upon my research on the internet i found out that is a common problem for the 2010 ford fusions and ford has refused to issue a recall on this part. i continue to drive the car because i didn't experience anymore problems until again i was on my way home from work, late at night and the car did it again this was 5/21/13, did i mention i am 6 months pregnant. i was almost rear ended because the car slowed now in the middle of a 2 lane road and then came to an complete stop. i turned my flashers and the car that was behind went around, i finally was able to pull over and wait about 10 minutes and the car started back up but it was still sputtering like it wanted to cut off, but i was able to make less than one mile to my home. this part going bad on these ford fusion is an serious issue and needs to be address by ford, an recall needs to be issued. this is very dangerous and now that i am ready to replace the throttle body it is on backorder here in ga and the dealerships have no idea when they will receive any shipments. please issue a recall for this part and make ford responsible for the financial cost of these repairs. *tr
The car looses power suddenly and without warning. pressing on the accelerator gives no result. the engine is running, but i can't give it any gas. i have to coast to the side of the road, turn off the ignition, then restart the car. at that point it starts pretty hard, but will usually be ok. a wrench light shows up when it happens, but is gone when i restart the engine. my ford dealership has looked at it twice. the second time, we decided to replace the throttle body. now i'm told that the manufacturer isn't releasing the part until mid-july. i have to drive an unsafe vehicle for another 5 weeks while we wait for the part. i'm very concerned about the safety of my family and myself since this has occurred 9 times. two of these occurrences placed us in very dangerous situations. 1) busy 4 lane road with no shoulder and an incline caused me to shut it down and put on my flashers in the middle of the road. 2). on a 70mph hwy with a semi-truck approaching quickly behind me and road construction on the shoulder leaving a drop off. *tr
My car has been making a weird hum/grind/low pitched roar noise for quite some time now. i took it in, it will cost 1,800 dollars to replace my power steering rack. but- apparently you cant just buy the rack, you must buy the whole kit (motor, tie rods, rack, clamps, you name it). because its been redesigned! ...i wonder why. yet there is no recall. fyi- if i didn't fix, the power steering would have soon failed, leaving me stranded. *tr
My 2010 fusion is experiencing the same loss of power issues (complete loss of accelerator response, followed by the wrench light appearing) related to the defective throttle body control. while sporadic at first, the frequency of the incidents has increased to where failure now happens almost every time the car is driven (the 25+ failures have occurred in all situations, at all speeds: at highway speeds, on side streets, accelerating up hills, pulling away from stoplights, etc). i have stopped driving the car because the last throttle failure occurred as i crossed a busy 4 lane highway and could've resulted in a deadly accident. when attempting to have the problem fixed in april, my local dealer claimed ford had placed a "hold" on all throttle bodies and that a new design of the throttle body part was being shipped from the supplier in mid-may. (the dealer also informed me that, despite this being a part of the engine, the throttle body is not covered by the powertrain warranty.) when my "new" throttle body arrived at the dealership in mid-june and i came in to have the part replaced, i was told ford had placed another "hold" on the part and my car could not be serviced at this time. if ford will not fix this problem on their own, it is imperative the nhtsa protect consumers by forcing the company to address this problem and to do so at no cost to the car owners. for owners who are forced to drive this car, this is a life and death issue. *tr
My car has been constantly shifting out of gears when driving. it happens whether i am going 10 mph to 60 mph. the car will slow down, jerk back, than catch up to gear (automatic drive). i brought the issue up tot the dealership after purchase of the used auto ($20k) miles and they indicated that there was nothing wrong. at $35k i was driving down my street going 20 mph when the car jerked rapidly and shut down. i was stuck in the middle of the street with the car failing to restart. the transmission light (wrench) came on and i was stuck trying to figure out what to do next. i finally got the car to start up again after 3 tries and i was able to get into work but took the back streets instead of the highway. all of this happened after i had the car at the dealership the day before and it passed the 120 point inspection. i actually printed off all 306 complaints on this website regarding this issue and told the dealer what to fix as i did not want to get any run around. the dealer took it out on 3/20 and the car did the same thing to the service team and luckily they were able to witness the critical error. they agreed to fix it but are now trying to stick it to me. the car was under 36k original warranty but the car was originally purchased on 3/5/2010 and the incident happened on 3/18/2013. the dealer told me i was two weeks pass the warranty so i was out of luck. i fortunately bought the extended warranty and they are now trying to make me pay the $100 deductible which i am fighting. *tr
When i pulled out of my drive way this morning, when the car was changing from 1st-2nd gear, it slammed into 2nd so hard it whipped my head back. the car never lost power, and when it found 2nd it keep going keeping speed. if there had been a car behind me, i probably would have been hit, because when it slammed into gear my reaction was to let off the gas as the car made a sudden jerk. *tr
Stopped for light started to go car started jerking and rough idle could only go about 2-4 mph was able to get to side of road turned off fro several min. than restarted ran fine for about 8-10 miles than same. got it dealer they replace throttle body. *tr
I had just stopped at a stop light and when it turned green, i proceeded to the ramp to get on the interstate when my 2010 ford fusion suddenly lost power and started shaking violently. i managed to get to the other side of the road and coasted into a parking lot. it took 3 times of trying to re-start it. finally started and taking all side roads, i made it home. it has happened numerous times since then, but last friday, june 14, 2013, i had left the grocery store with a trunk full of groceries, and had to make a left turn onto the hwy. it died on the turn and shook worse than ever. i managed to once again coast to the other side of the road into a parking lot. this happened at least 7 or 8 times before i got home that day. it has scared me so bad, i am now afraid to drive my car. *tr
Driving down hwy at 45mph and it felt like the engine just stopped. foot was on the gas but could not do anything but coast off the side of the road while trying to avoid traffic. stopped the car and shut it off. after a minute it started and was running fine for about a mile and the same thing happened again. i was able to get home safely by switching gears manually. took i to the dealer and i was told the throttle body ha to be replaced. even though i paid for the extended warranty and i was we'll within the 5year 50,000 mile power train coverage they still told me the throttle body is not part of the power train and i had to pay $100.00 deductible. *tr
Vehicle lost power while accelerating. wrench icon came on. was able to pull over to shoulder. car shuttered when turned off. was able to restart and drive home. diagnosis: mass air flow sensor. 3 weeks later it happened again but this time was not able to restart. could coast at 12 mph but whenever accelerator was pushed car shuttered and lost power. diagnosis: throttle body and coil. *tr
Driving down the freeway at about 65 miles per hour when the car dies and starts a violent shake. luckily there wasn't much traffic and i could pull off to the side of the road with my three kids, if it would have been busy there would have been an accident. i have read alot of complaints about this problem with the 2010 ford fusions is it going to take a couple deaths for them to recall this car for the problem. it has happen to me three times now once when i was going about 35. i think ford needs to recall these vehicles and fix them before somebody gets killed if they haven't already. *tr
Shortly after i purchased my 2010 ford fusion back in february of this year i noticed when i started my vehicle and hit the 20-25 mph my car hesitates to go into gear and when it does it jerks. i took it into my dealership and at first i was told they found trans codes then i was told that was a miscommunication. i was told it did this because the car was cold. i have never owned a vehicle that did this when it was cold. upon researching known issues with this vehicle i came across the throttle body issue and am wondering now if that is my issue without the stalling issue. will continue to go back and forth with the dealership and ford motor company until my issue is taken care of. *jb
Traveling approximately 45 mph during rush hour traffic the 'wrench' light illuminated, the vehicle lost power and the engine began idling very rough. fortunately i was able to get out of traffic and pull off to the side of the road. the engine was idling very rough ~900-1200 rpm and was unresponsive when i pushed the gas pedal (almost to the floor). once stopped i turned the engine off, waited approximately thirty seconds and restarted the engine. the warning light was extinguished and the engine operated normally. i accelerated back to traffic speed and within five minutes experienced the exact same thing. i pulled over, turned off and back on the vehicle and again the light extinguished and the car ran normally. two more times within a thirty minute period the vehicle experienced the same thing. en route to the ford dealer the next day i had the same thing occur three additional times during the ten mile drive to the dealer. each incident was identical. the dealer found no codes (since the light had cleared when i turned the car off and on) and hooked up an incident recorder. i experienced the same shut down three additional times and captured them on the recorder - upon return to the dealer the next day they still did not have any codes to investigate (?) the dealer 'thought' they knew what the problem was (even though they "hadn't seen anything like this before") and replaced the throttle body. since replacement i have not had any additional mishaps. i'm glad i did not cause an accident due to the sudden loss of power but, as i explained to the dealer, i felt that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. i hope they fix this issue asap - there needs to be a recall and soon! *tr
First incident: vehicle was traveling about 40 mph and would not pull up a shallow grade hill about 1 mile from the house. car was started "cold". wife pulled off road and engine died. "wrench" symbol came on dash. i arrived about 15 minutes later and started car to move it further off the road. it ran so i took it back home, no apparent issue. called dealer and got it in the next day. dealer is about 2.5miles from my home. dealer could find nothing wrong and we drove it home. did not drive it for about a week. second incident: wife at a busy controlled intersection. car would not accelerate when light turned green. called me after getting car started and moved to a safe location about 1/2 mile from intersection. "wrench" and "battery" lights came on dash. about 2 hours later we took the car to the dealer with no apparent problem. dealer informed me the computer coded a throttle body issue. throttle body changed. we have not driven the car over 10 miles since then. wife no longer trust car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle would not respond to acceleration attempts and stalled with the illumination of an unknown warning light. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 37,000. updated 03/20/13*lj
Throttle body! i have been having issues for a while now. started with the check fuel inlet cap light coming on. fyi, i have not fuel cap for this car. had it checked, thought it was a sensor problem. then the check engine light came one. then the issues started taking place. had a few incidents where i would be going down the interstate at 70 miles per hour and the wrench light would come on in the car and it would completely lose any throttle control. i would have to pull over to side, car would still be running, but once stopped would shake and sputter, i would turn it off and then it would fire right back up. sometimes this would take place maybe 3 times back to back and then would not do it anymore. i kept being told, when it happens bring it in....that is easier said than done. it is happening more often and now at lower speeds and as of last week, as i was pulling out of my driveway. now it is parked, can't go 2 miles without it shutting off. i have found out that it is the throttle body and it seems that many other are having the same issues, yet this has not been recalled. ford is telling me the part is back ordered, and that i may have to wait a month for it to come in. i work and have two kids and now ford would like for me to wait to get it fixed. fyi.....a rental cal is about $700 for a month! unacceptable! and i owe too much on it to be worth my while to trade it in. frustrated beyond belief! *tr
While driving home the vehicle lost all acceleration and the wrench light came on. the rpms dropped to below 1000. i was able to safely pull over where the car shook and died out. i attempted to restart the vehicle and it would not start. i waited a few minutes and was able to get it started. *tr
On feb 13 2013 i was driving and the car nosed over, slowed to approx 8mph, with engine surges of up to 1500 rpm, after several restarts it ran normally. on feb 17 2013 it did the same exact thing, i stopped and restarted the engine several times in the 40 minute drive of 3 miles back home but that did not help. after the car set for several hours it started and ran correctly. research on the internet showed hundreds of the same problem and replacing the throttle body corrected the trouble. on feb 18, 2013 i took it to the ford dealer and from only my description was told that the throttle body was the problem, they had 3 in stock and my three year warranty has expired on feb 21, 2013, less than a month out of warranty and it would not be covered so i drove the car back home, i called a different ford dealer who sold me the throttle body at a discount. it took me about ten minutes to install the throttle body, and the car is still running as it should. *tr
I was slowing down as the traffic light turned red. the engine stalled and cut out. the wrench warning light came on. it took several tries to get the car started. over the next several days, the car stalled while we were driving on a major highway in traffic at 45 to 50 miles an hour. we took the car to a ford dealer who diagnosed the problem as a short circuit in the throttle body and motor assembly. they replaced the parts at a cost of $438.64. we have since learned of other fords of the same age having the same problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration power. the vehicle was able to be restarted but the failure recurred three times over a period of one year. the vehicle was taken to a dealer but was unable to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
Had my oil changed jan 2013 and was told my transmission fluid was completely empty after having it changed prior 3 months before and told it was fine. then noticed feb 09 ish 2013 that there was a good amount of transmission fluid on my garage floor. was told this happens alot on the 2010 fusion and it needs to be a recall with the problems it continues to have. *tr
We were driving around 50 mph when the car stopped accelerating and we slowed down to 5 mph.the wrench light and check engine light lit up. luckily, there was nobody on the road behind us or we might have been killed from the sudden change in acceleration. we were told by our dealer that the throttle body needed replacing. they replaced it but the check engine light is still on. it was not covered by warranty (i was told by ford customer service that no warranty covers that part). how convenient that they specifically don't cover a part that is clearly defective. i am not sure if anyone has died from this problem, but i have two teenage sons who drive that car and i don't trust it anymore. after reading all of the complaints on this site, and elsewhere, i demand that an investigation be done into this faulty part before someone is injured or killed. thank you. *tr
This car has continually had multiple problems. we bought the car in april of 2012 and less than a year later we were told we needed a new transmission after we began losing power during operation (a serious safety concern!). the car stalls out, the wrench light (and sometimes the engine light) comes on and the car loses power and shakes. two transmissions later, the problem still persists. happening again yesterday (a week after we had a new transmission put in). there is no code for the dealer to recognize. the only thing we keep getting from this car is the stress of failure and serious safety concerns. *tr
I was traveling on a highway going approximately 70 mph and my accelerator became unresponsive. the rpm's dropped to idle, engine did not stop running but would only coast. the wrench warning light icon came on and later the check engine light came on. i coasted to a stop and put the car in park which is when the car began jerking. i shut the car off and put on my hazard lights on the highway. i was able to restart the car, but it was a rough restart. i was able to drive off and it appeared to run fine. i did some research online and found that many owners of the ford fusion have had this recurring problem with their throttle body. this also is affected by other models of 4 cylinder engines. my ford customer service stated that they had no customer service complaints about this problem. i informed them of all the complaints online, they told me that the throttle was not covered by warranty and this was not a recalled part. this happened numerous times after this, resulting in two near traffic crashes and almost getting tboned while making a left turn through an intersection. the problem is that the vehicle will run fine for a day or say, but with no warning stop running, sometimes at the most inconvenient times. i cleaned the throttle body, but it did not solve the problem. i purchased a new throttle body from my dealership for $185 with tax and replaced the part myself because it was very simple. i am in no means a mechanic, i am a cop and it took me only 5 minutes to replace it. i hope ford identifies this problem before a traffic crash occurs due to the vehicle stalling without warning. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration power and then stalled. the throttle/ transmission warning light illuminated. the vehicle was moved to the shoulder while still in drive but failed to properly accelerate. the vehicle was shut down and took over a minute to restart. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. the contact also stated that the failure recurred several times. the contact personally repaired the vehicle by replacing the throttle body. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 53,000.
I was driving to work when suddenly the car lost all forward power. i was in the middle of an intersection when the engine cut out, and a couple of people had to make some pretty severe emergency maneuvers to avoid accidents due to my almost-stalled car. i couldn't get any power out of it with the gas pedal. when i coasted off into someone's driveway, the car barely stayed running. it shook and missed like it didn't have enough air. there was a yellow wrench icon on, but no check engine light. i shut down and refired, and it ran perfectly. i took it to the local dealer, and they told me that there was no stored data to analyze, and that it didn't do it to them on the test drive. they said there wasn't a problem. 2 minutes of googling shows a huge problem with the throttle bodies on these cars. we need a recall!! what if people hadn't been paying attention when my car failed in the intersection? there could have been a big crash. *tr
There was a pool of oil on floor, under car ( left front side) coming from the bushing of the half shaft axel assembly. the leaking was from the half shaft seal. repair was performed by ford per tsb 12-11-6 ford replaced half shaft seal and bushing. also joint and stub shaft assembly. *tr
Our 2010 ford fusion lost engine power while accelerating up a hill in morning rush hour traffic on a multi-lane super-highway in atlanta. our car was in one of the left lanes and was able to limp across several lanes to the right shoulder with the assistance of a helpful truck driver. cars were racing around us on both sides until we could flag down assistance. the experience was horrifying. the car was towed to the ford dealer who diagnosed the problem as a stuck throttle cover. a repair was made under warranty, and we were told the car was safe to drive. *tr
My purchased my car with 25 miles on it in 2010 and the first time was in 2013 jan, with about 35000 miles on it when i was in heavy baton rouge traffic pulling onto the street and my car lost power and would not accelerate. the wrench light appeared, i managed to pull back off the road and turned the car off. after looking in my manual i saw that it could possible be a throttle problem. i started the car back up and it drove normally. i had ford dealership inspect the vehicle which they said it didn't appear to have any problem. however i am registering a complaint because i thought i was purchasing a reliable vehicle. losing power is a very serious problem and could cause accidents. ford please recall. why should the customer be responsible for a defective part, why is ford not standing behind it quality vehicles? *tr
When driving down the interstate the rpm's drop to 0 with no throttle response with trying to accelerate, the wrench symbol illuminates on the dash. at the time of the throttle failure there was a semi to my right and a semi behind me, which made it extremely difficult to pull to the right of the road while decreasing speeds. upon pulling over and putting the car in park and shutting off the car the car starts up as usual. *tr
Had 2 separate incidents, 1st was driving down highway going 70mph when car jerked, cruise control disengaged, lost acceleration, wrench symbol apperead on dash and trying to accelerate made car jerk even more. fortunately i wasnt attempting to pass another car. i pulled over and shut car off, read manual for what the symbol meant than i started car and symbol was gone. i decided to go ahead and finish trip home and everything was fine. next day going to local grocery store going about 10mph had exact same thing happen. i just spoke with dealership i bought car from and its to be looked at tomorrow. i had just bought this car 3wks ago, so pretty disappointed in ford and pray that nobody gets injured with this mechanical issue, i definitely wont be allowing my child to ride in the car until its completing repaired, and by reading other consumers issues may be never. *tr
My 2010 ford fusion failed me and my family yesterday in highway traffic. the car went into an idle mode and would not accelerate. i had to coast across three lanes of traffic and run up the curb to get my family to a safe area. i turned the car off, and then back on and the car started. the problem was the throttle body and the dealer replaced the failed unit at my cost. i see on the web, that a failed throttle body is a recurring problem for the ford fusion. the vehicle was only 15 days or 5000 miles out of warranty. my cost of the repair was $328.50. *tr
While i was driving on a county highway at almost 60mph the car shook/shuttered, then a wrench warning light appeared and i pulled onto the shoulder of the road because it felt like the car was losing power. i had just gotten off of the highway and it stalled. i called my husband to come and because it was dark and only 20 degrees outside i started the car again about 15 minutes later. it started right up but we had it towed to a mechanic anyway and they found nothing wrong with it. because i was scared to drive it after this i took it to a ford dealer (ewald in hartford, wi) to have it checked over. they could not find anything wrong with it. then this same scenario occurred again about 3-1/2 weeks later at 5:15am on my way to work. this time i was just pulling away from a stop sign and barely going 20mph. it did the same thing with shaking, the wrench light coming on and the car stalling. there was no shoulder where i was so i didn't want to wait for a tow truck or help. i started it back up and took it back home where it sat in the garage for 1-1/2 days until i could get it to a dealership. ewald ford looked at it for me again but they said they could not find any issues. they told me not to start it again if it happens or the codes will clear out so i will need to have it towed or put a portable code reader on it to see if i can get something for them. i just saw an article in our milwaukee paper stating that you are investigating these issues and i wanted to let you know that i've had the same problems. please help to force a recall before someone gets killed. thank you!! *tr
While traveling at 70mph on the freeway in my 2010 ford fusion se (46,000 miles), i felt a bump as if was hit from the rear or the transmission locked up. the wrench symbol lit up. the car lost all acceleration. i pulled the car over. while parked on the emergency lane the car kept surging and the rpm bounced between 500 and 1000 rpms. i turned off the car and after several minutes i restarted the car as if there were no issues. approx. 8 miles later still traveling at 70 mph it did the exact same thing as before. this time when restarting, the starter stayed engaged for approx 10 seconds after releasing the key. the car had the same stalling issue 12 more times for the next 15 miles to my home. i spoke to the dealer, he said it is a defective throttle body and needs to be replaced. he acknowledged it is a known issue, but not a recall so my out of warranty cost would be around $600. this is a major safety issue and needs to be addressed by ford before someone gets killed, if they haven't already. *tr
I have a i4 2010 fusion, started to notice in the city that it wanted to chug forward. started to get worse and worse and then the light came on, once the light came on totally down will. when i was sitting at the light i would just take it out of gear because the car was shaking violently. i did look online and someone mentioned unplugging the battery and letting it reset. well it actually worked for a little bit and its starting to do it every now and then. *tr
2010 ford fusion -- had to replace trans axle due to poor surface roughness on part and it wore the seals, found by puddle of tranny fluid in garage. a known issue, ford had a kit to repair. local trans shop found about the issue. of course no recall. now transmission slips while accelerating, and decelerating before jerkily shifting in gear. *tr
My car is a ford fusion bought in march 2010 with only 33,400 miles, still under full warranty. i was driving in city traffic, going about 50 mph, when my accelerator stop working. the wrench and check engine light came on as well. i was able to coast into a parking lot safety, thank goodness. when i started to hit my brakes to stop, the car jerked a bit like it did not want to stop. i stopped, shut off the engine, and it started back up ok. no lights on the dash. i then pulled out into traffic again and not even 5 mins later, it happened again. i coasted into another parking lot, turned the engine off and back on. this time the check engine light stayed on. this proceeded to happen 5 more times before making it to the dealership. the dealership said it was due to a dirty throttle body and that it needed cleaning. i spent $250 to clean it because cleaning is not covered under warranty. two weeks later, i was on the interstate going about 75mph when this all happened again, thank goodness i was not in heavy traffic or i would have been hit from behind. i was able to coast over to the shoulder and restart my car. i drove it straight to the dealership. they called some hotline and were told to replace the throttle body altogether. i have not had any problems since but i wish i had known this earlier. i was terrified of getting into an accident and wish ford would have recalled it before this happened. i pray that no one is killed because of this simple part that should be replaced on all fusions. *tr
Vehicle lost power when driving. the rpms went to about 1000 rpm (jumping up and down). this caused me to have to pull to the side of the road. after stopping and restarting the car the car drove fine. this happened a few times. luckily i did not have accident. i brought the car in and diagnosed by ford service on november 29 as faulty throttle body. the car has @ 41339 miles and this was not covered by warranty. *tr
While traveling on interstate, vehicle lost power to the accelerator, but lights, radio etc. all remained on. a wrench symbol was illuminated on the dash. after coasting to the shoulder, i placed the vehicle in park and it shuttered and shook until i turned off the ignition. the vehicle was restarted after several minutes, and the wrench light was off and the car resumed normal functioning. the same thing happened again within a week of the first incident, and again the vehicle returned to normal operation after shutting off the engine. the car had no further incidents until may of 2013. for a week every time the vehicle was driven it died, particularly when trying to get up to speed. at this point the mileage is around 42k miles. after nearly being hit by an 18-wheeler when trying to join the interstate, i promptly drove the car to the dealership from which it was purchased. i was advised that the throttle body needs to be replaced. at this point the car has been left at the service department of the dealership because it is on backorder for at least two weeks. in the meantime i have filed a complaint with the ford motor company customer complaint department. i am wondering if ford is waiting for someone to be killed or seriously injured before they issue a recall on an obvious faulty part! *tr
Driving interstate hwy at 65 mph, vehicle lost power. traveling in the middle lane, the vehicle slowed in rush hour traffic to 5mph. i said my prayers due to the heavy traffic, thought this was the end. was able to coast to the shoulder and called for a tow truck. dealer reported that the throttle body had failed. failed part replaced and vehicle is working normally. *tr
At approx. 52k while drive approx. 40mph, all fuel power was lost and 'wrench' light came on. had to coast to a stop, car sputtering. put in park and killed the engine. waited a minute, car started with some hesitation. ran diagnostic, nothing. about an hour later, ran some b-12 through fuel; cured. twice again at approx. 56k, same thing (once at 70mph on the interstate and the other at 55mph on a busy highway); ran b-12 both times. on third event, it finally gave a reading - throttle body stuck in open position. brought vehicle to ford dealership, they got the same reading and changed the throttle body to the tune of $350. ford stated there was no technical service manual indication of problem forcing a possible recall. how lucky for me and my kids that we weren't in a high-traffic situation and i could safely maneuver to the shoulder...all three times! *tr
I was cruising along about 65mph on i-89 on a slight uphill grade when engine suddenly misfired a little then rapidly lost power. the little yellow wrench icon was on in the instrument panel.i had to pull over on the shoulder without getting nailed from behind. the engine was still idling but not smoothly. i could push the accelerator to the floor but it just continued to idle a little roughly. i then turned off the ignition and waited wondering if it would start and when i tried it the engine started, but the idle was a little rough and the rpm's went up a bit then smoothed out and ran normal and the wrench icon went off. it was driven for several weeks without a repeat but then did it again. it has happened several more times since under a variety of driving conditions and speeds. when it was first brought to the dealer there was no code showing in the computer log. ( i don't think they tried very hard as they didn't even listen very well, stating on the repair order that i said the check engine light had come on. no..... i said the wrench light had come on. when it was brought back to the dealer a second time, they found the culprit as the throttle body being defective and needing to be replaced. when i questioned them about what specifically was wrong with the throttle body, they played like it was the first one they had ever seen go bad and it was some big mystery. afterward, i spent a grand total of about two minutes on the internet and found dozens of page references about ford fusion throttle body failures alone, some with hundreds accounts written by owners who had the same recurring problem. i will go out on a limb here and say this seems to be a widespread problem as it is also being reported in several other ford models and is obviously, in my humble opinion, a grave safety issue. *tr
Driving on my way home. a wrench light illuminated in the dash and the car lost it power instantly. slowing down to a complete stop. my latest incident was much scarier. i was on the cross island parkway in the bronx going with the traffic. thank god i was in the shoulder, it happened again. the car was going about 60 mph and the same thing happened. i was able to get on the shoulder with out anyone running into the back of me. the car came to a complete stop and was jerking like crazy. i turned it off and it started back up and i went from bronx ny to eastern long island scared as hell in the right lane just in case it happened again. and there are other times as well. *tr
I was driving down a local road at the limit when the wrench light warning indicator came on, after the indicator was on there was not throttle response, engine was still running and yet no power going to the wheels. i was able to roll over to the side of the road and put on hazard warning lights, car while at idle was jerking and bucking. i then limped the vehicle to a parking lot, placed it in drive and filmed the issue with a cell phone in a parking lot and narrated as to what was happening. once the vehicle was shut down and then restarted the light went out and the problem did not persist. i took it to the dealership and no codes showed up in a diagnostic and the dealership "could not reproduce the problem" but suspected it was the throttle body controller as this was a common occurrence. *tr
Vehicle would lose all response to the accelerator pedal. it would happen at any time without warning, but first happened after speeding up after going over a speed bump. the next day it happened 3 times. on that last day, the day of the appointment at the dealership, it happened 4 times. the vehicle would not react to the input from the accelerator pedal. you would have to pull over, assuming there was a safe place to pull over, and shut the car off in park then restart it. everything would be normal until it acted up again, anywhere from 1 mile to 5 miles later. obvious safety issue, you can't power the vehicle to get out of the way of oncoming traffic it were to happen on a turn or merging on a freeway. a wreck could very easily have happened from this failure. it ended up being a bad electronic throttle body. this was not covered under the powertrain warranty and the total cost to replace was $352.40. *tr
Date and mileage of incident are guesses. has happened on multiple occasions. when driving vehicle on highway or local roads, engine stalls as if it had no power, however, the tachometer indicates engine still running. each time this occurs, vehicle has to be steered on to shoulder. when pulling onto shoulder, it vibrates tremendously. after it stops, you must put it into park, then restart the engine. brought vehicle to goodyear where it was identified as a p2111 fault. it was suggested that it be brought to a local ford dealer for servicing. brought to the local ford dealership a week ago. confirmed as p2111 fault. part had to be ordered which took approximately 6 days to receive. as of this complaint, still waiting on service to be completed. *tr
Driving down the road, lost complete power and steering, wrench came on dashboard light, struggled to pull over. told nothing showed on computer- thought likely throttle body. repaired- not covered under 60k drive train warranty. today 7/9/13, went to start parked car- rolled forward when in park and released emergency brake. put brake back on , would not start. towed- told transmission linkage issue and would require 3-4 hours of investigation to diagnose as nothing again showed on computer. car w/ 59,200 miles- again they noted may again be throttle body. *tr
While driving on the freeway at 65 mph. the engine lost power as the engine light and wrench light went on. pressing on the accelerator had no responsive. i had to navigate freeway traffic with no engine power to get off to the side of the road. as i came to a stop the car jerked a bit before i put it in park. i turned it off and let it sit for a while. after turning the car back on i got back on the road, only to have it happen again a few miles later. *tr
