Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

Shortly after purchasing the car, i started experiencing a number of problems. the first started three weeks after purchasing it. while driving on the interstate, doing approximately 65 mph, the wrench light came on in my car. not too long after that the car begin shaking, so at this point i decided to pull it over at a rest area. upon parking, i noticed smoke coming from the engine. turned the car off and allowed it to sit for awhile. when i turned the car back on, the light was off and the car was running fine. i called the dealership and brought it back there so they could drive it and see what is wrong. they of course found nothing. a couple weeks later i blew my transmission. after taking two months in the shop, i finally got it replaced. sure enough a couple weeks after that, the incident happen again. this time they said the throttle body needed to be replaced. got that down and had my cat back a month later. a month after that, ths same thing happened. this time, they said it was some lining that needed to be fixed, so they did. a coulee days ago, the same incident occurred again. this time they are saying the cv axle and bushing need to be replaced. i bought the car in june 2012 and it has spent more time in the shop than in my possession. not only am i paying a car payment for a car i dint barely have, but i am also paying weekly for a rental everytime it is in the shop. *tr

I was traveling at 60mph in morning rush hour traffic when the 2010 ford fusion lost acceleration. then the car started to chug so i pulled off onto the shoulder before the exit. it was not a full shoulder as the car was still occupying half of a lane. a ten-wheeler truck was right behind me and fortunately was able to stop.the car had to be towed to the dealership and the throttle body had to be replaced. this car is a safety hazard. *tr

Driving up to a red light that had just turned green, the wrench light came on in my 2010 ford fusion, it began to jerk, i lost all acceleration, and my gas pedal would not respond. i was able to limp the car into a parking lot where i turned the car off. i waited a minute or so and recranked it. it shook/sputtered a little bit, but eventually cranked and the wrench light was off. continued driving and it happened again a couple miles down the road at around 50 mph. again i was able to limp into a parking lot, kill the car, and recrank as before. took car to dealer the next day. they couldn't get an error code reading or replicate the problem. was told to come back with wrench light on (which is impossible because the car won't go when the light is on). i've had this problem occur 3 more times, have filed a complaint with ford, and my vehicle is currently at the dealership as they try to diagnose the problem again. i've read a ridiculous number of complaints about this issue online from other 2010 ford fusion owners. the problem is a bad throttle body, and it is going to get someone killed. i've been driving cautiously since it first occurred because i know i can't rely on the gas pedal to always respond, but for someone to whom it happens the first time who attempts to cross traffic and then finds himself a sitting duck in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic, it is going to spell tragedy. please hold ford responsible! *tr

On take off in heavy traffic the transmission slipped and jerked hard. i was frightened and pulled over for about 20 minutes to call my dad whom is a mechanic. he stated that it was the transmission and that i should drive it home which was a hour away. i was scared that it would do it again at full speed. 2 days later as i tried to reverse out of my driveway the car revved up but didn't move then jerked into gear and i flew out the driveway very hard and jerking violently. i don't want to drive with my niece or my little 4 year old brother in case of something dangerous. i haven't experienced this ever with a vehicle. i plan to take the car in immediately! i have been driving another car for the moment. because i have to travel alot. *js

I was merging into traffic onto a major interstate on my way to work at approximately 55 to 60 mph and my 2010 ford fusion lost all power. i was able to get the car off to the side of the interstate. i cut the motor off. i started the engine back and proceeded to work. did not contact the dealership on the first incident. two days later i was coming home and had just crossed over a two lane highway to get to the road i live on and had the same issue, the car lost all power and there was a jerking in the transmission. i was able to get the car off the road again, from previous experience i turned the car off and let it set for a couple of minutes and restarted the car. we then called the dealership and were advised to bring the car in. they had the car for 2 days and they said they could not get a code and they reprogrammed the computer. we drove the car for 3 days and while traveling on the interstate again at approx. 70 mph in the fast lane with a tractor and trailer behind me the car proceeded again to lose power. the tractor and trailer had to apply his brakes to keep from hitting me in the back. i finally was able to get the car off into the center median. again we cut the motor off and started it again and was able to make it home. we called the dealership the next day and were advised to bring it in again. they had the car for 2 weeks. they finally called us and said they thought it was the throttle body. we called ford motor company and naturally they told us there was no recall and they could not help us with the cost of the throttle body. what is it going to take for ford to do a recall?? death!! i have read approximately 70 complaints on the same issue on the 2010 fusions. i have grandchildren that frequently ride with me, does ford not care about the lives that could be taken due to this issue or are they making so much money on this that they don't care. *tr

On saturday june 16th i was traveling north bound i-75 from rockcastle co. ky to madison co ky which is about 45 miles. was traveling 65 miles mph and suddenly the engine shut off. there was a semi in the right lane, we were in the middle lane with one semi in back of us. we were able to coast to the emergency side of the road. the semi in back of us locked his brake and almost hit us. i shut the car off and restarted it and drove in the slow lane and it happened 3 more times. i then left the car at my mother in-law's house and borrowed a car to get home in as i was afraid to drive it and put myself at risk plus someone's life at risk. on monday, 6-18-12 i got the car to the dealership and the mechanic test drove it and it happened to him. i pulled up on the internet and saw that i am not the only one this has happened to. it definitely is a life ending crash getting ready to happen. of course my vehicle is out of warranty as of 35000 miles, but that is not my issue. i would hate to see someone lose their life due a malfunction of a throttle body. ford needs to step up to the plate and admit that know of this issue and fix it before someone loses their life or a child's life. the foreign makers such as toyota stepped up and ford needs to do so also. this is the fourth automobile i have brought from them and try to stay with the american made cars. safety should be their concern instead of the almighty dollar. *tr

While cruising between 65 - 70 mph, vehicle stuttered, then "throttle control/transmission' warning light illuminated, and vehicle lost power. accelerator pedal completely unresponsive and engine becomes erratic, but power steering and other electrical components unaffected. able to coast to side of road, where engine continues to sputter, but does not stall. changing transmission position has no effect. turning vehicle off and then back on appears to rectify the condition. two identical occurrences, but first time (06/15/12) with cruise control on, second time (07/06/12) with cruise control off. dealership unable to find source of problem. *tr

On several occasions the car will not accelerate after stopping for a stop sign or light, then it jerks, moves forward and the rpm's rev up rapidly. then it resumes normally. i am concerned my vehicle has a faulty transmission or the throttle body issue that i have read about. i have only 17,000 miles on this car and will take it in for service, hopefully with resolution. i sure hope a recall is issued soon since this seems to be a serious safety issue. *tr

I was driving down the highway when i lost the ability to accelerate. my rpms dropped and i had to pull over. i called ford roadside services, they came and picked up my car. after being looked at by the ford dealership, it was determined my throttle body needed to be replaced. my car is less than 2 years old and only has 40,000 miles on it. the part and labor totaled around $500.00 this is ridiculous for a new car to already have this issues. i did some research on the internet and found that multiple ford fusions are having the same issue. this item needs to be recalled and replaced. i can only thank god it was during the day and in a public area. if this had been at night with my 7 year in a bad area, no telling what could have happened. i was lucky the people behind me on the freeway noticed i was slowing down or i could have been involved in an accident. ford needs to step up and fix this. *tr

While driving at a low speed (10-35 mph) the car quickly gains speed (the rpm does not increase) and then slows down again and it feels like the gears shift down although it doesn't seem possible. the gas pedal stops working and a wrench shows on the dash board, the car slowly decreases in speed. as i come to a stop the car jumps and lurches violently. i turn the car off, wait a few minutes and turn the car back on. the wrench goes away however after this happens 5 more time the engine light comes on. this happens intermittently. i read in the forum people describing issues similar and exactly that same as mine and it seemed as thou it was the throttle body. could not afford the part so i waited and it went away. this stopped for roughly 5 months and then starts again (oct 2012). now it happens at any speed. very, very dangerous! i spoke to a mechanic at a local ford dealership who said that he is not aware of any issues similar to mine.....i find it a little hard to believe that i am the only person in my area with this problem. i suggested he look at the forum. i have 3 children and cannot believe that the powers that be at ford have no concern for our safety, the safety of other drivers on the road, their reputation and refuse to stand behind a product that reportedly won safety awards. very unfortunate. i hope the thousands of postings on the multitude of forums reaches someone at ford (before someone is killed) who has a conscience and is concerned about the safety of those who still believe in buying american. this ignored, dangerous issue and the ford attitude of not caring will make anyone never purchase a ford product again. i have owned 3 different models and have had issues with all 3. *tr

While accelerating from a stop the engine suddenly cut out and began a rough idle. the check engine light and the wrench light came on. the engine would not rev even with the gas pedal pushed in. coasted to a stop. turned the ignition off and then restarted the car. the check engine light and wrench light were no longer lit. started to accelerate away and then it happened again with the check engine light and wrench light on. i was able to idle home. once at home i turned the ignition off and started it back up. this time the check engine light came on but not the wrench. while in park i would rev the engine and it sounded fine and could not get the engine to shut down while revving. i didn't move the car and had it towed. fortunately it has only 32707 miles on it and covered by warranty. so, will have to wait to find out what the cause is. based on other complaints and their follow-up it sounds like the throttle body issue. *tr

Car stop running, while going down two lane bridge, dealer ship replace throttle body, their comment we have not had any problems with the throttle body's. *tr

While driving the car at 55mph i let my foot off the gas and then went to accelerate and the car lost all power. would not recognize the gas pedal check engine light and wrench light were on. car died in a construction zone with 3 lanes and no shoulder. extremely dangerous. i pulled car to right lane turned car off and on car continued on. took car to dealer. advised no message was marked in computer. there was nothing wrong could not repeat problem. 5 days later while driving home in traffic the car once again lost all power would not recognize gas pedal, check engine and wrench light came on. i pushed car to the shoulder, turned car off and on continued 100 feet car died again 17 more times. i had car towed to dealer. dealer replaced transmission control. car now shifts horribly, and has a jump when you let off gas. car has stalled numerous times. ford needs to recall for the transmission control module. ford needs to admit there is issues with the transmissions in the v6 fusions. i had similar transmission issues with my ford edge and mercury sable. *tr

While driving the car stalled out, went into safe mode, and had to coast off the road. happened several more times and took the car to the repair shop. mechanic diagnosed a faulty throttle body assembly and attempted to clean it. afterwards the car stalled again and the mechanic replaced the throttle body. just purchased a used mercury milan with 31,600 miles on and had the exact same problem occur. ford evidently has an issue with throttle body assemblies on these model of cars that can cause accidents. *tr

While driving the car on a sunny day about 35 mph the car started to slow down abruptly to 5 mph. the advance track light came on and service advance track immediately message went across the message center. i immediately took the car to the dealer. light and message were on when i dropped off the car to the dealer. dealer stating could not repeat problem. *tr

Gears just dropped out and car simply idled. had to pull over into left turn lane and turn off vehicle and restart. car worked fine again for two weeks when it happened again. it happened most recently on 06/06/12 three times in one day. once on the way to the office, once on the way home from the office, and once on the way back from my financial advisor's office when i had my fiance in the car. *js

When i purchased the vehicle at 43,000 miles a check fuel fill inlet warning appeared. i main tended the inlet system and the warning and check engine light would disappear. as time went on i noticed that when i would merge onto a busy highway, my car would barely move. i have come very close to death and causing others injuries because of this. i had the throttle body checked after the recall and the mechanic said that the throttle wasn't the issue. a p0456 appeared and that means a small evaporate leak. i asked the dealership if they performed a smoke test and he said no. after paying 90$ for a diagnostic fee that wasn't performed accordingly to the tab bulletin, i became very angry and frustrated with ford. every ime i switch gears or even accelerate my car jerks so hard that i hear what is my engine or transmission loudly shifting. this past week my car won't start. it takes 15-20 seconds to turn on. after someone jumped the vehicle when i was stuck at work, my check engine light disappeared, my sync and voice featured disappeared, and now i can't even charge my phone! also, the air conditioner quit working as well. i feel as though all of the cars functions are deleting themselves from the car. i do not feel safe in this vehicle and i cannot continue to work because of it. how can i pay for an expensive repair when i can't drive to make the money? i take very good care of the vehicle and do not feel financially responsible for this poorly manufactured car. they need to recall the 2010 ford fusion before someone gets hurt or even something worse. *tr

My fusion has become erratic in low gear shifts. when trying to merge into traffic and turn onto a highway it will act as though it is in neutral and i have no power to get out in traffic. i have been almost hit on a major highway do to this mechanical failure. i took the car to a dealership for repair and they informed me that it was low on transmission fluid and they repaired a seal and reprogrammed it as ford directed. i took the car on a trip and i was unable to merge into traffic again and it ran at over 5000rpm on the highway for long periods of time. it finally flipped a code and i returned it to the dealership. they did a complete transmission overhaul and replaced over 15 parts. this took two weeks with them having to deal with fords warranty department. i picked up the car on 6/6/2012 and it did not even make it to my place of work, 12 miles away, without the transmission slipping again and it remaining in neutral. this car is a death trap!! i called the dealership and they came and picked it up. it is now 6/12/2012 and i still do not have a car to drive. the dealership is fighting with ford to have the complete transmission replaced. ford has contacted me several times and it seems as though they do not care that this car is a danger to have on the road. i want my car back in working condition. i am pleased with my dealership of choice for service as they have been very polite and helpful with me. ford has given me nothing to drive in the meantime. people, if you have this issue with your car make sure ford hears your complaint. this is dangerous and unacceptable. *tr

I have purchased this ford fusion new from rogers ford in odessa texas. 1n 2011 as 2010 leftover car quits running at any speed or just loose all power then i must pull to side of road/median to restart car. then it may run correctly for 50 miles or 50 feet then, repeat with same problem. this started at 38,000 miles not covered under warranty. the code is p2111 throttlebody. i have myself (dealer will not install used part) replaced throttlebody 3 times (used new is not available) because when i spoke with ford motor co. and dealers they stated a mass nationwide back order and every dealer i have spoken with has no idea when part will be available. i have had several close calls by almost being hit by other cars/semis when engine power quits or when it stalls i loose power steering and brakes. i have spoke with ford motor company today 06/17/2013 1300 hrs and was told to bring to any ford dealer and i called three ford dealers and was told cant get part it is on nationwide back order. *tr

In response to free press news article from sunday 7/14, i previously owned a 2010 ford fusion with the same transmission issues. ford claimed they installed the a fix for the issue, but problems persisted. vehicle completely lost power while on the freeway on multiple occasions. please expand investigation to include fusions.

On 5/12/12 coming home from a softball tournament with the cruise on at around 65 mph the yellow wrench light came on. engine was still running but could not accelerate. coasted into a church parking lot. put the car in park and restarted. when restarting seemed hard to start...like an alternator issue. arrived home safely (was about 5 miles from home when incident happened). on 5/13/12 (sunday) same issue except it happened 3 times during a 30 mile trip. the last time i had pulled over and put it into park i was worried it wouldn't start...turned and turned but slowly...again sounded like an alternator. i had issues with the cruise control a few months back and of course nothing was found to be wrong. short story is when i hit "resume" to get it back to the speed it was while on cruise control the rpm's will run 5000-6000 for f a r longer than it should. the car will be to the desired speed and it will stay at the high rpm for 4-6 seconds instead of kicking into the next gear which obviously is hard on the engine and gas mileage. not happy with the dealership in their investigation of matters and not happy with the car itself. *tr

I was driving home and going up a hill when i felt the vehicle slow acceleration and then it revved back up. the transmission/throttle control light came on so i pulled over. i turned the vehicle off and waited for a few minutes. turned the vehicle back on and when i went to accelerate it lurched. i continued driving home and since it was after 9:00 p.m. when i got home, i couldn't take it to the dealership until the next morning. on may 11, 2012 i took it to the dealership and they called to tell me that the vehicle slipped from 4th gear into 5th gear and this should never happen so they were going to have to pull the transmission and i would be without my car for 5-6 days. after research on the internet it appears that several people are having this same issue with the transmission of the 2010 ford fusion. *tr

When trying to accelerate, rpms would rev to between 4000-5000 but car would not speed up. once it finally started (after three tries), car finally jerked forward and shuddered before speeding up. after driving for about 30 minutes, i then tried to reverse the car and it jerked and grinded extremely hard. smells like something is burning at times. took to dealership twice already, but still having problems. *tr

Transmission is slipping in gear, hesitating during shifts, or coming out of gear completely during acceleration. also the transmission is shimmying down the road in certain gears. the car is getting to the point where it is unsafe to drive and this is my family car. *tr

While driving on the interstate, the wrench light came on and the car became unresponsive to acceleration. i had to turn on the hazards and coast to the shoulder. the car was able to be restarted and drove fine for another 30 minutes before the same thing happened again. 2 days later the same thing happened on the interstate again, requiring me to coast to the shoulder of the road! today it happened while i was only going 45 mph and happened three times in 10 miles. when i got home i immediately began researching other ford fusion problems and found this to be a common occurrence. we tested the chip of the car and got a code of p2112, indicating the throttle body was malfunctioning. this comes behind an electrical problem requiring a new battery after 50,000 miles, a plastic piece breaking off the sunroof and needing to be replaced at 40,000 miles, and the sunglasses spring breaking at 35,000 miles! this is the second ford i have owned and we were thrilled with our ford five hundred, but the fusion seems to have more problems than it has good qualities! ford really needs to find a fix for their throttle problem before one of us is injured or killed while we coast to safety on the interstate in a malfunctioning car! *tr

While driving my car suddenly went into shut down mode. a wrench symbol showed on panel. i was able to turn into a drive way and after turning the vehicle off and back on the wrench went off and the car ran normal. i took to the shop and nothing showed on the computer. it then happened 5 more times. back to the dealership now says that it is bad throttle body and is not covered. after researching online it appears to be a bigger problem and ford should recall. there are so many complaints that it is obvious that it is a defect. people are going to get killed. ford fix this now. i have no choice but to pay to have it fixed but i shouldn't. it would be very interesting to see how many have been fixed to date just by ford and not other companies. *tr

2010 ford fusion: while driving at 65mph on a highway with cruise control set the car lost power and stalled. tachometer dropped to 1000 rpms and fluctuated between 500 - 1000 rpms. wrench light (throttle / transmission) illuminated and the car coasted to a crawl at less than 5mph. the car's throttle was unresponsive and i was unable to accelerate. i became a serious rear-end hazard in a construction zone and had to pull off to the side of the road. i put the car in park, restarted it and the car ran fine. i am just barely under warranty (and just bought the car 1 week ago) so i brought it to a ford dealer - they "checked" the car and found "nothing wrong" with their computer scan and stated that there was no error code - so there was nothing that they could do. the day after i picked the car up from the dealer the car did the same thing, twice. this time it did it after a cold start in the morning and again when i left work in the afternoon - again the wrench light came on and shut off once i restarted the car. bringing the car in tomorrow again...we'll see what happens. what a safety risk - my wife refuses to drive the car! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that he purchased the vehicle because one of the benefits stated in the owner's manual was that the vehicle could be towed with four wheels touching the pavement. the contact stated that the vehicle was towed and as a result, destroyed the transmission. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the transmission was repaired. the manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 40,000. updated 09/26/12*lj the cosumer stated ford offered to pay 1/3 the reppairs along with the dealer and thee owner. the consumer traded to the vehicle in since the vehicle was not 4 wheel towable. updated 09/27/2012 *js

The transmission of the 2010 ford fusion slips and resulted in my inability to accelerate the vehicle in heavy traffic while traveling over the george washington bridge in new york city. the dealer, van bortel in rochester, ny, has had the vehicle for a transmission re-build and two additional times for a seal that leaked transmission fluid. i had another incident where i brought the vehicle to another dealer and they replaced additional components pursuant to a program fix from ford (the van bortel should have performed, but did not). this is dangerous as i was lucky not to have been rear-ended by the 18 wheeler behind me at the time my transmission failed on the bridge! *tr

I have a 2010 ford fusion with a four cylinder engine. while driving to work, i started speeding up from an intersection, only to experience a complete and total loss of power, the wrench light came, the engine started misfiring (rough idle at less than 550 rpm), but all systems where still working. pressing the gas pedal produced no results. i was able to pull off the side of the road, stop the engine, let the car sit for about 15 seconds, and then restarted it. when the engine restarted, the car started up and ran like nothing had happened. yesterday (june 1st), the fusion did the exact same thing, except this time i was pulling into an intersection (approximately 5 miles per hour). i had a catastrophic loss of power, the wrench light came on again, the engine was misfiring (rough idle), the rest of the systems continued working. luckily no one was coming in my direction and i was able to pull off the road into a parking lot, stop the car, and then restart it. i took it to the dealer today and they diagnosed it as needing a new throttle body. they quoted the price and labor at $400 for the repair. i've had this car less than 1 year and it only has 49,800 miles on it. if i had been pulling onto a busy street and experienced the same loss of power, it could have been a much more dangerous situation. according to my research, this is a common problem with the 2010 ford fusion, and the replacement part has been "redesigned" according to the dealer where i took my car for repair. *tr

While driving the vehicle under normal conditions at speed on an open highway the car suddenly lost all throttle control and transmission response, a 'wrench' warning light came on the vehicle gauge cluster. after coasting to a stop in the breakdown lane the car sat, idled roughly, and i turned the ignition off. after a minute or two i started the car and the symptoms (including the wrench warning light) were gone. i brought the vehicle to the dealer service desk and after analysis was told there were no events captured by the vehicle computer. i was told to drive the car and report any additional instances of the problem. after the issue resurfaced again three weeks later, i again brought the vehicle to the service team at my dealership. after again not finding events logged in the computer, they installed a temporary data recorder for me to manually engage the next time the issue appeared. i was lucky to have the problem the very next day, the recorder captured the event and reflected the problem was with the throttle body. the dealer replaced the unit. upon researching the issue after the first instance it is clear there are hundreds of cases of this same problem documented in various forms and sites on the web indicating this is a known, systemic problem for ford with the fusion throttle body. the nature of the problem, effecting vehicle control, at speed, is dangerous and would seem to warrant a more proactive approach to the issue both by ford and by the nhtsa. *tr

Car has 2.5 engine and 6f35 auto transmission. car exhibits "flare" when shifting. typically occurs when cold. problem presented itself at around 42,000 miles. *js

Driving child to school - car's speed starts declining even though accelerator was been pressed (car should have been going between 50 -55 miles). got car off road. switched car off, waited a couple of minutes and then started car again. drove child to school, called ford dealership and placed car in repair shop. was told that warranty went out 4,000 miles ago and part and labor would cost approximately $300.00 and car should be ready to pick up by 5 p.m. next day. got rental car from dealership and was told later same day car went to shop that throttle control will have to be replaced. unfortunately they didn't have one in stock and it would have to be ordered and hopefully with me paying an expedited delivery charge it would be in the next day if not hopefully within the next day day or 2. now i am stuck with a rental car for approximately 3 more days. *js

Vehicle was travelling approximately 20-25 mph when power was abruptly reduced and the engine went into a rough idle. the wrench light on the dash illuminated. there was no response from the accelerator pedal. power steering and power brakes were not affected. i pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the engine. upon restarting, the car ran fine and i proceeded home without incident. the next morning, the car started fine, but a half mile later the car's power was again reduced with a rough idle. the wrench light illuminated again. i stopped safely and turned off the engine. i restarted the car several times; each time power was reduced and the car was shaking and shuddering. i limped back home and called a tow company to tow the car to the dealer. the diagnosis was a failed throttle body. dealership replaced throttle body. *tr

I was driving down the highway at 70 mph when my car shut off i was almost hit by another car then a semi truck because i didn't know what had happened. my car had no throttle response. after having my car looked at it, it was diagnosed to have a bad throttle body. so i did some research and its a common thong with 2010 ford fusions, but for some reason ford won't either find a way to figure out why they seem to have throttle bodies that are malfunctioning and putting their drivers lives in danger. they need to recall this before it causes someone to lose their life. for people who don't know it cost about $500 to get it fixed if your vehicle isn't under warranty. *tr

Transmission slips gears and engages very hard, causing the car to lurch forward. on one occasion i nearly rear-ended a car in front of me because of this. while driving at low speeds the car will shift rapidly between two adjacent gears, as if it is "confused". car will sometimes not shift at all; the rpm's just sit at that threshold for a while before knocking hard into the next gear, again causing a dangerous lurching motion. while on the highway the car will lose power suddenly, more prominent when the car is traveling up a steep incline. you could keep pressing the gas but amazingly the car seems to loose more power when you do this. the only way to get power is to open the throttle 100 percent in which case the car again jerks into gear very hard. this situation has happened plenty of times and is very scary. on some occasions the power was needed to accelerate in front of another car in another lane, to avoid an obstacle in the roadway. the latest incident that occurred was very scary. the transmission was making a funny sound, almost like a zipper being zipped. this seemed odd to me because it sounded almost like the gears were rubbing up against something, however i didn't think anything of it because the car seemed to be operating properly. then i went to make a left turn across cross traffic. when there was a break in traffic i pressed the gas, the rpms went up to about 5k and the car slowly grinded into gear, almost like a person who doesn't know how to drive a stick shift very well. this caused my car to nearly get stuck in the middle of an active intersection and i was nearly t-boned. thank good the other drivers saw me struggling and stopped. the issues with this powertrain seem to be endless and the worst part is that they occur at random with no warning. *tr

I drive approximately 30 miles on the highway to get to work. the day this problem first occurred, i got off the highway and came to a stop sign. i checked for traffic both directions. a car was coming from the left, and i was turning right. i knew with my car's acceleration i had plenty of space to pull out safely (it has a v6 engine, automatic transmission). i hit the gas and pulled out. the car did not accelerate as expected. i barely hit 5 mph and the tachometer redlined. i took my foot off the gas pedal and tried again. same thing - redlined. the third time i tried, the car shuddered and finally shifted to the next gear. the car behind me was far enough away to slow down safely, but in a different situation they could have easily hit me. i just rolled out in front of them because the car didn't respond when i hit the gas. immediately after that incident, i scheduled a service appointment at a ford dealership. the first available appointment was two weeks out. i booked the appointment and continued to (cautiously) drive my car to work. the car ran rough even at constant highway speeds. last night i dropped my car off at the dealership for the service appointment. i took the highway to get there. when i tried to accelerate to merge onto the highway, the problem occurred again. i rolled out into traffic at about 5 mph, hitting the gas pedal and getting nothing. again, i was lucky that there was enough room between me and the approaching traffic. this problem could have easily caused a bad accident. my car is currently at the ford dealership. i'm waiting for them to call back with a diagnosis. *tt

The vehicle began to jerk when driving or between automatic shifting. specifically when it shifts into third, it jerks extremely hard. the engine and maintenance light will come on as the vehicle stalls. there is no response from the accelerator and i have to put it in park, stop the car and restart it in order for it to move again. i was almost rear ended due to the vehicle dying in the middle of the street. *tr

The vehicle was bought 3 weeks ago and noticed shifting issues 1 week after purchase. i took the vehicle in to see what was wrong with it and found that the transmission fluid was dark black and had a burnt smell. it appears that there were multiple (updates) needed for transmission??? also was told that is the normal color of the tranny fluid?? burnt black... *tr

I was driving on interstate 65 in the middle lane when the car quit responding. the rpm gauge was stuck on 1 and pressing the accelerator got no response. i was lucky enough to be able to get over and barely off the side of the road but it was a close call. traffic was pretty heavy. i called aaa towing service for help. after 15 minutes i tried to start the car and it started up normally. i was able to get back into traffic and take the next exit. i drove to the dealer. i purchased the car on february 6, 2012 from town & country ford dealer in louisville, ky and had driven it only 596 miles when this happened. the repair bill to replace the throttle body, intake carb kit and recalibrate processor was $730.29. i didn't have the extended warranty so i had to pay the entire cost of the repair. i asked the dealer if this was a problem with the fusion and was told no it was not. *tr

while driving on the highway at about 40 mph the car stalled. all power went off but the electricity stayed on. i rolled to the side and was able to restart after 2-3 tries. the same thing happened when i pulled out of my driveway the same day. ford rebuilt my transmission and gave me a new throttle body. the car ran roughly the other day the engine light came on but it didn't stall. *tr

While attempting to accelerate, automatic transmission stalls and wrench light illuminates. at first i could turn the car off and back on, but eventually, the car stopped functioning altogether. analysis was performed and throttle body was the cause. has occurred with other 2010 fusion sels. ford unwilling to replace faulty manufactured part. *tr

2010 ford fusion will lose power at highway speed, car will not stall completely but will jerk and shake without enough power to get off road. tool light will come on, after restarting car will drive normal. sudden loss of power is extremely dangerous! how many crashes will it take before our government forces ford to fix the problem. took to mechanic, no codes to determine problem. ford .....step up stand behind your product! wife was almost ran over by tractor trailer! *tr

While stopped at a light, the car stalled and sputtered. a wrench sign lit up and the car died. i restarted it and ran fine. happened again a few days later, so i took it to the dealer. was there the whole day, but they could find nothing wrong with the car. *tr

Engine began shutting down while moving in morning rush hour. also surges forward and runs thru multiple gears while in stop and go traffic with light, if any throttle applied. on 6-8-12 engine went into failsafe mode, 1100 rpm while traveling at 60 mph. no response from throttle, had to manipulate thru traffic to beach car upon shoulder of road. after shutting off key and restarting, vehicle seemed fine, but same situation happened twice more within minutes. drove car to nearest ford dealer who "cleared the old codes" and test drove, finding no further issue. billed me under esp service agreement, and continued onto work. leaving work to make deliveries, car initiated exactly same response as earlier (5 times), at various speeds, and again, heavy traffic. took to dealer i bought car from, who immediately claimed it needed a new throttle body, which are on national back-order, delivery date unknown. referred to another dealer who had open bays and a throttle body in stock, but for some reason was uninterested in even looking at the car. offered to leave car, esp offers rental, so i could return to work, but that part has become uncovered by the extended warranty, and they still had no interest in fixing car after i agreed to pay myself. transmission has a quirky problem of downshifting aggressively when traveling downhill, up-shifting rapidly in slow moving traffic, and now a throttle body problem which causes car to go into a no power situation while at speed. *js

Traveling highway, going 70 mph the car suddenly jerks and the speed started to decelerate and the wrench light on dash went on. the engine was still on, but zero ability to accelerate. coasted to the side of the road and the rpm's were fluctuating from 0-1 in park. turned the car off for 10 seconds and turned it back on. after turning the key on, the starter sounded like the key was turned with the engine on for about 20 seconds. the second time was going up hill at 20 mph back roads. same thing with no acceleration and the wrench light came on. had to pull over because the car could not move and shut it off. same with the starter for about 20 seconds of it sounding like the key was turning with engine on after turning it on. incidents are about 1 month and 10 days apart. *js

I was in a parking lot turning into a marked parking space, with my foot off of the accelerator, when the accelerator moved forward abruptly. the engine roared as the car accelerated forward, the car jumped the curb and moved forward striking a column supporting the front corner of an office building. the column fell forward coming to rest on my car, inches above my head. i applied the brakes from the moment i first realized what was taking place, but the brakes had no effect. the cost of repairs to my car was over $3000.00, plus the cost to repair the building. i took the car to the dealership where i had purchased it new. the dealer's employees stated that the computer disclosed no problem. they contacted ford engineers who ordered the dealer not to attempt any repairs. ford claimed no knowledge of such a problem ever occurring. *tr

While attempting to pass a vehicle, the transmission completely disengaged from the engine as if it were in neutral leaving me with no power to the wheels. the revs on the engine were extremely high. as i was passing on the left, this left me in an extremely dangerous and vulnerable position as i had no power to move the vehicle. fortunately i was able to coast to the right at which time at a near stop the transmission violently re-engaged. first time, took to the dealership where they reprogrammed transmission. it has since happened again, again while accelerating to pass. it is just a matter of time before this kills someone. it is not safe, dealer claims that they can not reproduce, there are no codes. this issue is well documented here and elsewhere, there needs to be a recall. *js

I bought the car with 12000 miles on it and under warranty. at 12750 miles the transmission began to flare from 2nd to 3rd gear and 4th to 5th gear. i took it to the dealer and the transmission was reprogrammed and i was told to drive it apx. 250 miles and it would correct itself. at 13150 miles the problem was worse than before so i took it back in. the dealer checked it and said nothing was wrong and that the cold transmission flare was" normal". i know that the transmission was not designed to flare until it gets warm. after viewing several hundred complaints on line, all for the same problem, it seems you would required ford to fix this problem. it is a big time safety hazard when the car looses power and forward motion in traffic. this defect is a major accident and probably deaths waiting to happen. please do something to help all of us since it is evident that ford does not care and will not take it on it's to fix the problem or stand behind their product.

My 2010 fusion se v6 with the infamous 6f35 transmission is slipping, hard shifting, fluid is blacked and or burnt. my concern is that it also has just lurched forward for no reason. i feel it is a safety issue and should be recalled for a new transmission. please force ford to issue a recall on this model transmission. i know i am not the only one with this issue on this vehicle. *tr
