We have classified the 777 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I was on the freeway when engine speed suddenly went to idle. i was in the middle lane and almost got into a crash trying to get to the road side. when i brought the car to the ford dealer they said the throttle body was bad and it cost me $500.00 they said it was not covered under the power train warranty,go figure. also the transmission does not down shift properly after heavy acceleration, they said it was normal. it's no wonder why people shy away from so called american cars,it will be my last. *tr
I was driving my vehicle on the highway, at approximately 55-60 mph, when i suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. the car stalled, and the wrench light came on. i had to pull over and restart the car. this happened again, the next day. the car also began to shake prior to turning the car off. i have read hundreds, if not more, complaints regarding this same issue. my car is currently at a local ford dealership, where i was advised that it sounded like the "throttle body". the ford dealer commented that this is a common complaint among the 2010 fusions. again, since discovering this problem, i have read hundreds of complaints online in reference to the same issue. i have filed a complaint with ford, as this part/defect is not covered under my powertrain warranty, even though my vehicle is only two years old, with 58,000 miles. this is a tremendous safety concern, with car losing all ability to accelerate on a busy highway. *tr
On a typical good weather day i was driving around running some errands in the city. shortly after i started the car going at a city traffic rate of speed...approx 35-40mph...i got approximately 5miles out and the car began to slow down, and a wrench sign appeared. even with my foot on the accelerator, i could not accelerate, and went to pull off to the side of the rode which i was barely able to do. once i was fully out of the road, i put the car in park, and before i could shut the car off, it began to shake/ vibrate. i turned the car off and let it sit a couple minutes and i proceeded to start the car up, which it did so like the day i bought it, and the wrench sign went away. i proceeded to my first destination with out any problems. i left my destination and proceeded to my next...i got about 3miles out and the car did, and showed the same thing. so as i decided to just head home which was no more than 10 miles away, the car did the same thing 5 more times and the check engine light came on!!!!! i am now home and afraid to drive anywhere. i got online to see what it could possibly be, and i have not been able to call a mechanic because it is of course a holiday weekend!!! *tr
While driving my car on the expressway the wrench light turned on followed by the check engine light. the car started reducing speed even though i was pressing the gas. i pulled over to the side and the car started shaking. i had an obd ii machine in my car at the time and ran a diagnostic. check engine code p2111 came up. after researching the code it says it has to do with the throttle body. i also noticed that there are so many discussion forums out there with people who are having the same issue. *tr
Loss of accelerator control. wrench and check engine light came on. car entered emergency mode and had to be pulled over and restarted. died 2 more times at highway speed. codes on car from check engine light read p2111 and p2112. dealer completed a throttle body replacement on september 5th, 2012. common problem with these particular vehicles. dealer was awesome with the repair and help with situation. *tr
For several weeks i've been noticing a sputter/vibration when in idle or park. this has only happened intermittently. this morning, while driving to work at approximately 65 mph, car suddenly begins to lose power and surge/vibrate/sputter and i notice the wrench light illuminated. i'm completely unable to accelerate and all i can do is coast to a stop on the shoulder of the (very busy) highway. after shutting the car off and sitting for about 15 minutes i'm able to restart the car with no indication there was ever a problem. the car is running smoothly and wrench light is off. i drove it to the nearest dealer's service department where i left it for inspection. as usual, i had to call the service department for an update and was told that the car was not "acting up" and everything seemed to be fine. they did agree to keep it for another round of inspections for the next day or so but i suspect i'll get the same response. after doing some light research, i've discovered that this is a very common issue with the fusions but there is no recall or tsb addressing it. i've read post after post after post written by infuriated fusion owners about this problem. it's time for ford to own up to this, get a solution, and send out the recall notices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
On a routine drive home from work, i exited the highway and noticed my rpms falling faster than what i was controlling with the brake. car was losing speed quickly with no rpms to accelerate it forward to a safe stopping point. was able to pull into a gas station right off highway, but barely as car was apparently entering limited power mode (determined via owners manual). upon placing car into car, dashboard wrench light illuminated. i then turned the car off, sat a minute, restarted car and everything was fine. within the course of the next 10 minutes, the same thing occurred 3 more times and check engine light illuminated. since the first time, this has occurred a total of 6 times while in motion with risk of causing a wreck due to lack of control to not cause car to stop abruptly in middle of road. shaking has occurred in 4 of the 6 occurrences and car just putters out until it is shut off. determination due to codes read is the throttle bottle- an electrical issue. while the limited power mode may be a safety feature, its interaction with the throttle body/idle issues poses a potential threat. the electrical issue that throttle bodies are experiencing within this make/model needs to be recalled and taken care off effectively and efficiently by ford. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 75 mph, the vehicle lost power and became inoperable. the failure recurred frequently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was awaiting diagnosis of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure who advised the contact to file a safety complaint and offered no further assistance. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was 52,000.
Leaving from work on friday afternoon, my 2010 ford fusion lost power as i pull out of the parking lot, it slowed down and i lose ability to accelerate. the wrench indicator on the dash is lit which indicates throttle/transmission failure. the engine was vibrating bad and the engine would not rev up. i roll into a parking lot and shut the engine off. i restarted the engine after a minute and it ran fine. this happens two more times in 30 minutes on my way to the dealer. they knew exactly what the problem was they said it is a very common problem with this car. i was luckily to not get rear ended the 3 times in 30 minutes it lost power. the dealer says it is not covered under warranty. that's stupid that ford would not cover the cost to fix their mechanical defects, this is a design defect as there are many complaints filed for this defect. this should be part of the powertrain warranty. looks like no 2013 f-150 is in my future plans since i was going the buy one. do the right thing ford. *tr
This morning i'm in my 2010 ford fusion traveling about 50 mph and all of a sudden i start to slow down and i lose ability to accelerate. the wrench indicator on the dash is lit which indicates throttle/transmission failure. i roll into a parking lot and shut the car. turn it back on after a minute and it runs fine. later in the day on my way home from work the same thing happens. this seems to be a very common problem and ford needs to do something. i'm reading this is not covered under warranty. that's doesn't seem very fair since its clear this is something that's happening to lots of owners. it can't be a coincidence and it must be something defective in the build. they can word it however they want but something that causes you to lose "power" i would think is part of the powertrain warranty. do the right thing ford.. *tr
Tell us what happened: my husband and i had purchased a 2010 ford fusion in july 2012. about 20 some days after purchase. i got into the car and started the car trying to go up my driveway and the car lost all acceleration and the wrench light came on. i called the dealership explained what happened they picked the car up and gave us a loaner to drive. the dealership replaced the throttle body. around august of 2012 my husband, my grandson and i were driving and went to make a turn onto the highway and without warning the car lost all acceleration again placing my family in a dangerous safety situation. we called the dealership and told them what happened and they picked up the car again. this time they mentioned there was issue with wiring and the pcv valve which also dealt with the throttle body was replaced and assured me the problem was fixed. last week my husband was driving the car on a highway and proceeded to pass an eighteen wheeler when out of nowhere the car lost all acceleration, the check engine light came on for about 15 or 20 seconds and thankfully went back into gear. my husband was going over 70 miles an hour and lost all acceleration without warning! this is an extremely dangerous safety concern. this now would be the second time it placed our lives in danger. we no longer have the car but i fear that someone else will buy this car and something worse could happen the throttle body in this car was replaced three times. once through the manufacture, car fax reported it replaced, and once when i purchased the car. something needs to be done to ensure the safety of these vehicles very soon before someone gets seriously injured or killed. my concern is it is very likely this car will be sold again to someone else since we took it back to the dealership where we purchased it from without having this issue fixed. *tr
Driving down the road at 45mph and the car starts vibrating. all of a sudden i lose acceleration while my foot is still on the gas. luckily i was able to pull over before the car lost momentum and stalled out. the wrench light was on. had no warning at all. i shut the car off, waited about 2-3 minutes and tried to start it again. it turned over but after it struggled to. the wrench light then went off. this has happened four more times! each with no warning! i have looked on a number of sited that have the same complaint about this. there are hundreds of near crash cases and all with no warning. i love how this website says "your complaint information will be entered into nhtsa-odi's vehicle owner's complaint database and used with other complaints to determine if a safety-related defect trend exists" after numerous complaints and an obvious faulty part you still haven't seen a trend? are you kidding me?! today i just missed getting into an accident as the car decided to lose acceleration again as i was pulling out to make a turn across 4 lanes. the lanes were clear to go but oncoming traffic was coming. i was lucky that the person saw my flashers and had the room to move over and get out of the way. apparently ford wants a lawsuit on their hands because as soon as someone gets into an accident(if they have not already) you better bet they'll go after ford. especially since it is apparent that ford has been made aware of this problem and still will not take responsibility for the fact something is wrong. you better believe that if i get hit because there product was not recalled because of a faulty part i'll be front and center with my lawyer and a news crew. *tr
Was driving down the highway at 60-65 mph when suddenly car jerked and lost all acceleration power. the rpms were stuck (not going up or down) and car began to slow down. the wrench light came on. i had to pull to the side of the highway to avoid getting hit. tried putting the car in park and back into drive, but it started shaking, so had to turn off the car, let it sit for a few minutes and re-start the car. it drove normally after re-start, however this was the second occurrence in one week and am now scared to drive it long distances or on the highway. ford needs to fix this issue before someone gets hurt! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal became inoperable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the torque converter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer where they advised that the power assist warning light was illuminated and that the power steering needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the failure mileage was 53,000.
I was driving my wife and newborn child home from the hospital when my car lost all acceleration. it was an unsafe situation and i responded by pulling my vehicle into the breakdown lane. i shut off the engine and started the vehicle and continued to drive. the vehicle lost acceleration 2 more times on my way home. the wrench icon came on when the incidents occurred. i believe it is the throttle body. this is a major safety issue ford must address. there is no indication that the vehicle is about to lose all acceleration. *tr
Moving along at 40mph when car suddenly jerks and loses power. orange wrench light comes on but my car stalled out in traffic. turned key off and back on-car started and light was off. a minute down the road and car did same thing again. this continues to happen 5 days later. very dangerous because car loses throttle power completely. i do not dare go down interstate with this problem. *tr
Transmission slips 4cylinder 6 speed automatic. *tr
Was driving at low speed (approx 20 mph) and car jerked violently and wrench light came on. rpms were then stuck ~1000 and car would not accelerate when gas pedal was depressed. coasted to a stop, shifted to park, and turned off the car. tried to re-start the car immediately and it would not turn over. after the car sat for approx 5 min, started fine and drove fine. dealership could not find problem. also experience a strong jerking motion regularly when first start car (it is cold) when shifting from park into drive/reverse). and have occasionally experienced an engine revving at higher speeds (40 mph). *tr
Car came to a chugging stop and a wrench symbol appeared on the console. after shutting off the car for a few minutes, the car started up and the symbol was gone. i am trying to get in touch with ford. i have found out on the net that this is a big problem with the ford fusion. this is a big safety issue because it has happened to hundreds of fusion owners. i have 20 pages of testimonials about this problem. i think it is time for a recall of this problem! *tr
My cars transmission shut off, a wrench light came on and i couldn't accelerate. car started shaking violently. had to restart it to drive again. car does it at random. its my only car and its my life line with out it i cant get to work. *tr
Was driving home from work and the wrench light came on and the motor cut off on me, i was lucky because i had just got off of the interstate , i managed to be able to pull on the shoulder of the road set there for a few minutes and started the car. it started and the light went off and was able to drive home. took vehicle to ford dealer and they checked and said they couldn't find any fault codes. they told me it was the throttle bottle and i had it replaced, haven't drove it yet to see if that took care of the problem. i got on the internet and found that other people were having the same problem. i think this is a safety problem and some on could get injured or worst. *tr
Today my 2010 ford fusion lost acceleration on i35 surrounded by semi-trucks at 70mph. the wrench light came on and we could not get out of the way of the trucks behind us. fortunately the trucks were able to go around us and the traffic behind us was about a couple of miles away. we were in the middle of the three lane highway with my 18 month old son in the back seat, so i'm astonish that ford could build such a car and not acknowledge the safety issue. we were able to coast to so the shoulder and turn the car off. the car came back on with no issues indicated on the dash. we then started our way down i35 and the car lost acceleration again at 70mph. this time i was prepared and easily coasted onto the shoulder. the car was rough in idle, but when we turned it off and on again it was fine. i made the decision not to hit 70mph but to go only 60 until we got home. today we went to sea world and on the way home we almost became another statistic because of the ford company. i will go to the ford dealership where i bought the fusion from to see how they can help. *tr
Throttle control is defective. i have read several complaints about the same issue. the throttle control goes bad and then the car will abruptly lose power and stop in traffic. we were lucky that we weren't on the interstate when this happened. in order to move you have to put the car in park and shut it off and turn it back on. i had to have mine replaced yesterday. the car is only two years old and only has 50,000 miles on it. *tr
I had just schedule to do my 75k maintenance on 7/27/12, which i did. the day before i had driven home from work and my car goes into low rpm's, and the throttle stops working but the car is still on! i immediately put on my hazards in rush hour traffic hoping i can find a shoulder in a construction zone. an 18 wheeler nearly knocked me off a bridge when i was drifting to safety at 15mph. i turned off the ignition as the car idles at 700 rpm's. i start it up again and i am able to drive. in two days it has happen once again, and now my average miles per gallon has gone down from 27.4mpg to 19/20 mpg!!! where is the recall...too common of an issue for a motor trend car of the year!!! *tr
was driving down road going 40 miles per hour car started stalling and cut off in traffic had to hurry up and throw hazard lights on place gears in park then restart car. receive a diagnosis and they said it was the throttle body very scary incident. *tr
Actuator control system: throttle plate stuck open - vehicle shut down on freeway would not start only after 5 min wait then happened again 10 min later stopped again waited 5 more min next morning car started fine then after a few mins of driving stopped again having trouble staying on... *tr
The vehicle lost all power at 70 mph and a wrench light came on. this was very, very dangerous. i pulled to the side of the road and turned the vehicle off as it would not move forward anyway. it had a rough restart, but then seemed to be better though still running rough. the wrench light went out. it took it in for servicing at the dealer where they diagnosed the throttle body. this was a very scary and dangerous experience. *tr
Driving at 65mph in traffic on a state highway when the vehicle failed to respond to the accelerator. vehicle went to approximately 750 rpm and there was no speed control. this failure occurred without any warning as i was passing another car and required me to take evasive action to avoid collision. dealership says it was throttle body control unit and that there are "known problems". *tr
On 7/22/2012 at approximately 2000 hours my family was traveling southbound on georgia state route 3 - us hwy. 41 in rocky face, georgia when our vehicle (2010 ford fusion automatic transmission) suddenly without notice went from a solid cruising speed of 40mph to an abrupt halt - nose of the car actually went forward towards the ground so abruptly that it made contact with the ground. the vehicle stalled (still barely running) in the lane of travel and would not get any throttle acceleration. my family and vehicle was almost struck by on coming motorists from the rear due to the abrupt stopping and the vehicle would barely get any throttle acceleration. after the georgia state patrol trooper came to assist the car would not go above 25 mph without suddenly stalling and the check engine light coming on along with an orange wrench symbol. the vehicle had to be abandoned at the dalton georgia state patrol post due to this issue until ford could send a representative to tow the vehicle to the local dealer where we purchased. the local dealer on 7/23/12 informed us that this is an on-going problem that ford is aware of and that the "throttle body" would have to be replaced. upon further online investigation i found that this issue is widespread and reported since 2010 & has caused very unsafe conditions for motorists such as it did with my family. i am asking you all to look into recalling the "throttle body" on the 2010 ford fusions to be replaced. this is a problem that ford is aware of and they are blatantly passing the blame off onto the consumer and someone (if not my own family) is going to get hurt. it is unsafe for a late model vehicle that has been serviced as required by the manufacture every 3-5 months to have these abrupt issues and break my family down in the roadway of travel on a major us highway. nhtsa please have ford correct before someone gets injured!! *tr
While driving down the road, my engine lost power. rpms went down, and the accelerator was not responsive. i pulled the car to the side of the road, and put it in park. the engine idled very roughly. i shut off the car, waited 5 seconds and attempted to restart. the engine did restart after some effort by the starter. i drove down the road, and the car behaved normally. this seemingly isolated incident increased in frequency in the following weeks. sometimes up to 5 times a day. i took my car to an authorized ford dealer, and the problem was diagnosed as a faulty throttle body. cost of replacement is $355. i researched the problem online and noticed that the problem seems to be fairly common among 2010 ford fusion owners. the online complaints about fusion throttle body problems were exactly the same as the symptoms i experienced. the danger lies in the fact that the car basically stalls without warning and must be restarted before normal driving can resume. i have experienced this problem at both highway and city speeds. a stalled engine in the wrong place at the wrong time (middle of an intersection, freeway, while passing, etc.) could have disastrous effects. *tr
The vehicle went into limited power mode (limp mode) while driving on the highway at fast speeds and low speeds. the vehicle refused to accelerate and almost cause a fatal accident. i suspect that a faulty throttle body is the problem. *tr
I accelerated away from a stop light and as i shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear the car jerked and i had no power at all the engine was still running, but when i put my foot into the accelerator nothing happened. also a wrench was displayed in the warning light area of the dash. i was able to coast to the side of the road and turned the car off. when i restarted it about 15 seconds later the wrench was gone and the car seemed fine. i am reporting this because i see that it is happening to a large number of 2010 fusion owners with similar mileage and it can be a real safety issue when your car dies in traffic! *tr
While driving on the highway at 70 mph my car cuts off. i merge to the side of the road and after a few minutes it restarts. i put it in drive and continue driving. the next morning it does the same thing. when it looses power the wrench light, check engine light, and traction control lights come on and it says service advancetrac in the service bar on the dash panel. i have taken it to ford several times and there are no codes stored for them to go by. they made me a new key and stated they thought it was my key going bad. i am sure that it is something more as it has done it again even with the new key. there is definitely something going on with the throttle bodies on these cars. it is very scary and unsafe when the car loses power in rush hour traffic. i have 3 children that i transport in this car everyday. i honestly hope ford investigates this and fixes the problem. i also had the problem with the lug nuts and wheel studs snapping off. there is a recall for that but i was told my car did not fall under that recall even though it was having the same issues? this is the first ford i have ever owned and i will never buy another one. not just the quality of the vehicle, but the tech's at the shops don't know anything, and ford does not stand behind their products!! *tr
Driving on an interstate about 55 mph and wrench light came on engine lost ability to accelerate i.e. went into safe mode and had to maneuver through traffic to the shoulder. this occurred multiple times from july through august 2012 on various types of roadways (highway, neighborhood roads) until the problem was fixed by a ford dealership. cause of the problem according to the invoice was the throttle body. they replaced the throttle body and the problem has gone away. *tr
Returning to tn from vacation in fl on 7/15/12. traveling before birmingham, al - heard a loud boom sound (like a tire blow out), then heard a roar. as we signaled to move from the fast lane to the emergency lane - flames were over the back window of the car. by the time that we reached the emergency lane, the entire car was engulfed in flames both inside and outside. the car was entirely engulfed in flames within 10 to 20 seconds. i had purchased the car from moss motor company in south pittsburgh, tn on 6/4/12. the car had issues within two weeks that required the car to be towed back to the dealer for powertrain issue. dealer did not share the ticket with me on repairs that were completed two weeks before the car exploded. but they kept the car for over one week to fix the issue that caused it to stop pulling while driving. this was the first long trip that i had taken in the car. my two passengers experienced mild burns but we lost all personal items in the car due to the speed that the car burned. alabama highway patrol worked the explosion and fire department had to work the fire. state farm assured me that they would investigate the cause of the fire but has just informed me that they did not do a thorough investigation. i have witness names and contact information as well as photographs that they took as the car burned if needed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to respond to acceleration attempts. the contact shut down the vehicle and then restarted. the vehicle then functioned properly. the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer for inspection. the failure mileage was 55,000.
I was traveling on the freeway at 65 mph. i heard a thump, the wrench lite came on and then i lost acceleration power. i had to coast off the freeway and come to a stop. i still had steering and brakes but no power. i had car towed to the ford dealer who replaced the throttle body assembly. i have read so many of these reports and i feel, like the others, that it is only a matter of time before someone is hurt or killed! ford needs to get on the ball and make this a recall. *tr
I purchased a 2010 ford fusion in june and about 3 weeks later, it decelerated and the wrench lit up on the dashboard, while i was driving. luckily, i was not on the highway or this could have caused a serious accident. i pulled over started the car up and it was fine. a few weeks later, i was 2 blocks from my home and the same thing happened 4 times and continues to randomly happen. the time between instances of this occurring can be minutes, hours, days or weeks apart. i have researched the issue and found hundreds if not thousands of complaints and questions regarding the same issue. i was amazed and appalled that such a common and very dangerous issue has not been addressed with a recall. i did purchase the extended warranty only to find out that the warranty does not cover anything that has to do with what is likely to be causing this issue, which is the throttle body. so until i can afford to get this fixed, i am stuck with a car that i am terrified to drive for fear of causing an accident due to the sudden drop in speed. *tr
Was driving out of a parking lot car suddenly stalled when accelerating. had to park and restart car to reengage engine. wrench and engine lights came on. car stalled out three more times going around the block. diag code was p0455. dealer initially replaced purge valve. on way home from dealership repair, engine cut out going 70 on highway. returned car to dealer. diag code was p2112. dealer replaced throttle body. car seems to be running normally now. this was a scary problem and a huge possible safety hazard when the vehicle cuts out unexpectedly at random times. *tr
I was driving on a main street at 40 mph when my fusion suddenly lost power. i was able to pull over in a left turn lane. both the check engine light and the wrench light came on. i was able to restart the car and took back streets at a reduced speed in order to complete the remaining 3 miles to my home. i was able to drive the car to the nearest ford dealership the next morning. apparently, the problem is a defective throttle control. it was replaced for a price slightly less than $500. the replacement comes with a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty. contacted ford customer service to vent my frustration on this expensive maintenance item. response from ford was very disappointing. my claim was denied since my car is less than 4,000 miles out of warranty. i was fortunate that this event did not occur on a highway and i was close to my home. searching the internet showed that this is a common failure with ford fusions. this is the first ford i have purchased and will be the last ford i will purchase. it seems shortsighted on the part of ford to ignore the value of quality and customer satisfaction. i have had my fusion in every three months for routine maintenance, but i see no point in continuing to pay a premium for service at a dealership when i know that ford will not stand behind their vehicles. *tr
Driving home from work on the highway at approx. 55 mph, my car lost acceleration, the wrench light came on and my vehicle went into a limp mode. i was able to exit the highway and pull into a parking lot. after a couple of minutes, i was able to restart the car. it now ran as if nothing had happened and the wrench light was no longer on. i brought it to my ford dealer and they could not diagnose the problem as no codes remained. it happened again several days later. i called ford and was informed not to shut the vehicle off and restart it as this action cleared the vehicle of all diagnostic codes. i made another appt. with my dealer. the very next day it happened again. this time i did not shut the car off, but limped @ 5-6 mph to my dealer and showed them the wrench light and the fact that the vehicle was running rough and left the vehicle with them. i also told them not to restart it until they read the codes. after research on the web, i found that this problem is quite rampant in fords and has been a problem for several years. the problem is a defective throttle body. my dealer found the code that i gave them when they checked my car. i had to have it fixed as i need the car for work. ford refuses to acknowledge the problem. are they waiting for someone to get seriously injured or killed? they should stop putting the almighty dollar ahead of the lives of people. *js
Only had my 2010 ford fusion for 2 weeks when i had my first incident. i was making a turn on to another street and upon accelerating it jerked and lost power. luckily there was no one behind me and i was able to be close enough to the side of the road to turn the ignition off and then restart it, and it seemed to be ok . unfortunately their has been several other incidences in the last 2 months that i see a pattern of this happening after i have been driving especially in stop and go traffic and try to accelerate from a stop that it jerks and unless i let of the gas a little it will stall or if i am on the freeway i cannot make any quick lane changes for fear the it will give out on me in the middle of traffic causing an accident. i am very nervous about driving this car and don't drive it any more than i have too, until i can afford to get it fixed. after seeing others complaining about the same thing i hope their is a recall before someone is seriously injured. a definite safety issue! *tr
Today i was at a red light when my car decided to act up. the light had just turned green and i had started to drive when all of the sudden my car lost power. it struggled then just stalled right in the middle of traffic. i looked at the dash and i noticed the wrench light came on. while i was trying not to die in traffic i put my car into neutral where i turned the key to the off position then back to the on position. luckily my car came back on but it was still struggling. i managed to get the car to a nearby parking lot where turned it off again. i gave it a few minutes to recover then turned it back on again. everything now appeared to working normal. i opened the hood to make sure everything seamed okay (nothing burning, smoking, or anything else out of the ordinary), everything checked out okay. also i would like to mention that my transmission sometimes fails to go into gear then all the sudden it goes into gear and jerks really hard. additionally my lower gears will shift very hard. when it shifts it acts as if someone had pushed in the clutch for to long then it goes into gear. *tr
There is a serious problem with this car in that it will completely shut down while traveling at any speed whether 15 mph or 70 mph, with no warning. this could cause serious harm especially traveling on the interstate where you can be hit from behind at a high rate of speed. the car will restart after a few minutes, but when doing so will cancel the engine service code p2111 so that the dealer cannot id the problem. if you experience this problem, make them keep driving it until it happens to the service person. issue is defective throttle body -potentiometer. the computer can't tell how much the throttle is open so it shut down. my teenager was driving this car and was almost re-ended twice. very dangerous problem. car should be recalled for this issue!!!!! *tr
Had noticed several times that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate after pushing the gas. later that afternoon, while accelerating from a stoplight, the vehicle started shaking and lost all power. i was able to get the vehicle into a parking lot and turned it off. when i restarted, the engine seemed to run normally but still hesitated to go when the gas was pressed. i got the car to a dealership and they explained that the throttle body was bad - "a common thing on these cars". ford is refusing to cover the replacement under warranty, claiming that this is not part of the drive train - though admitting that the car will not function without the part. *tr
On multiple occasions the car will just lose all throttle response, the car is still running, but will not accelerate. i have to find some place to pull over and shut the car off. then restart the engine and then it will run good. the issue happens sometimes up six times in one day, and then you can go a week without an issue. i have seen this issue with speeds as low as 20 mph all the way up to 70 mph. from what i have read online it would appear to possibly be due to a defective throttle body. apparently this throttle body uses a servo to open and close the butterfly that allows air into the intake manifold. i feel this could be a very dangerous problem especially if you are driving and it loses the ability to accelerate and you can not find a safe place to pull over to restart the car. *tr
Driving with the flow of traffic on a busy road, going about 55 all of sudden i lose power and the wrench light comes on. i was in the fast lane, and was very lucky to be able to get over to the slow lane, and eventually the shoulder and come to a stop. when i finally stopped, the car started shaking or hesitating. i turned the car off and sat for a few minutes. i then turned the car back on and everything was fine. the wrench light was gone and the car ran fine. this has happened 3 times and i have been very lucky that it has not caused a serious accident. i am going to take the car to the dealership on thursday, but seeing that so many other numerous people have had the same problem and ford just says that there is no problem, it will probably be a waste of time. it will most likely take a serious crash or death before ford will figure out what's really going on with these cars. sad, but true. *tr
I have had this problem at various intervals since february of 2012 . my fusion would stall an would not accelerate when i left from a stop sign or a traffic light , the vehicle would not go above ten miles per hour an the wrench light would come on my instrument panel. i would have to get off the road an cut the car off then restart it. the car would act like it had flooded an lurch an jerk , when before i would have it come to a complete stop. i took it to the dealer i purchased the car from an i told them about my incidents of the same type each time. they could not locate the problem until on june 30,2012 where the same problem happened to me an i drove the vehicle directly to the dealership. they were able to diagnose the problem as a faulty throttle body. they told me i must have been using some dirty fuel since they said the throttle body looked black inside of fuel. i had used exclusively 93 octane fuel into my vehicle. i had purchased a extended warranty when i purchased my vehicle from preston ford in which they told me when i first took the vehicle there with the same recurring problem, they said it was covered under the warranty. it was then they told me the warranty did not cover that part. i had to pay for the faulty part with a total bill of $593.00, along with other items i had for this service visit. i have not had a problem since this work was done on my vehicle. they did not tell that ford had issued a technical service bulletin ...
Driving down the highway going to work and the engine kept loosing power took it to ford once and they said it was a bad fuse got it back and drove it to work again and the engine stalled out 7 times within 2 miles i had to have it towed back to ford and they said my throttle body broke and needed replaced. *tr
While traveling in traffic the car lost power. i was able to steer to the shoulder of the road where the car idled roughly and i noticed a "wrench" light came on. i shut the car down while i collected my thoughts on what to do. i used my phone to find the closest ford dealer and, before calling for a tow vehicle, i tried to restart the car. it restarted, the wrench light was off, and it seemed to run fine. i drove directly to the nearest ford dealer without incident where they hooked up the computer to see what was wrong. they could find nothing wrong and suggested the next time it happened to try and get it to a dealer while the light was on. i then drove approximately 120 miles home with my grandson. this morning i went on the internet to see if there were any similar instances such as mind and found there were quite a few: (http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2010/ford/fusion/power_train/problem.aspx) the incidents others reported were almost identical to mine. i then called the dealer i bought the car from new, and they ran a check to see if there were any recalls on my model and there weren't. they suggested i call ford customer service. i tried calling them and was told by a representative they were having "technical issues" and couldn't help me, to call back in an hour. i live in a very rural area. the closest ford dealer is probably 50-60miles away. the roads here don't have much room to pull off on if the car fails again. judging by the complaints i have seen online, it seems there is a problem with this car and there should be some action being taken to remedy it. this situation creates a safety hazard for anyone driving or riding in the car. *tr
