Death wobble. truck shakes violently when you hit a slight bump at highway speeds and will continue to shake until slowed to around 40mph. ford replaced the steering stabilizer and claimed it was fixed, three months later it is starting again.
Three seperate occasions i have experienced a "death wobble" after first occurance returned to ford dealer for repair. parts were exchanged and vehicle returned to me. first repair completed oct 11 2017. next two occurances were week of thanksgiving dealer could not see vehicle for service till 11-30-2017 vehicle stillat dealer as of 12-19-2017 told parts on order till 1-28-2019
Vary dangerous death wobble at highway speed. truck has been at ford service twice but death wobble remains.
Vehicle will shake violently without any warning ,steering wheel is uncontrollable until you come to an almost stop then it will quit shaking vehicle is in motion on highway usually between 45-65 mph when the shaking starts, steering dampner was replaced by dealer at 20 k and at 29 k shaking started again
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving 70 mph over a bump in the road, the steering wheel and front end of the vehicle started to experience mild shaking. in order to stop the vehicle from shaking, the contact had to decrease the speed from 70 to 30 mph. the contact stated that the same failure occurred multiple times whenever the speed exceeded 60-75 mph. the vehicle was taken to phil long ford (301 s 2nd st, raton, nm 87740) and unknown repairs were performed. a month after taking the vehicle to the dealer, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 17,000. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr *dt*jb
While traveling at highway speeds i hit a bump and my truck went into a very violent shake, took my truck to autonation ford in littleton co, they replaced the steering damper, it had 15,000 miles on it. at 21,000 miles the same thing happened, i again returned to autonation ford and they told me on the service report that i needed to install after market products and they would not do anything else to my truck. i have since been in contact with the dealership where i purchased the truck, spradley ford in pueblo co. they informed me it was a camber and caster issue and any ford dealership knows of the problem and should be able to fix the issue. i have spoken with autonation ford in littleton and summit ford in silverthorne co, both have told me they have not heard of any such issue. today i spoke with 4 wheel parts about my issue, they told me they are back logged with ford trucks with the same issue and it can be resolved with many part replacements at a cost ranging from $25.00 to $700.00, unless the tires need to be replaced due to wear. at this point i feel my truck is unsafe to drive and which direction to take to resolve the issue of the "death wobble"
Traveling at around 75 mph in a straight line on the interstate, i hit a bump then the front end and steering wheel will begin to vibrate and shake. i had to slow down to around 50 mph before it stopped.
While traveling down i45 at 70mph, the front end of the truck started to wobble really bad and the steering wheel started to wobble bad also. it was hard to hold on too. i slowed down and got off to the side of the rode , at about 30 mph it quit wobbling and i proceeded on. soon after i was going about 65 mph and it started wobbling again. i slowed down as i did before and it stopped wobbling again around 30mph. i parked when i got home. i went to work the next day and it started wobbling again. every time i drive it, it wobbles now. i have called dealership and will be taking t in 6 days from today. they could not fit me in until then.
While driving about 55 mph on a rural road , i hit a washboard spot in the road . the steering wheel starting oscillating wildly . i almost lost control of the truck as the front end seemed like it was bouncing down the road . i had to slow down to about 20 mph before the truck recovered . fortunately i was on a rural road and had no side by side traffic as that could have been catastrophic.
Driving at leagal highway speed of 75 on us i30 in sulphur springs texas on 11/11/2018. hit a bump on road and vehicles front end began to shake violently. almost caused a major accident as i struggled to keep under control. once i slowed to 45 shake went away. happened again 15 later under similar circumstances. classic death wobble
Death wobble started at 13k miles. dealership changed various parts in front end and fixed the problem. at 21k death wobble was back. dealership changed steering damper. problem was fixed. 33k its back. the damper is not sufficient for the truck. once the damper is worn, death wobble happens at speeds over 45mph when truck its a bump in the road. uncontrolable front end shaking forces driver to slam on brakes until about 25mph when shaking stops. this is terrifying and has almost caused several accidents. this is all over the web. i am not the only person experiencing this. please, please please look into this. i am petrified to take the truck back out on the highway. the dealership wont fix it until they experience the problem, but wont drive the truck long enough. what they fixed twice, clearly is not sufficient and it has gone again. somebody is going to get hurt or killed if ford don't fix this. the truck has never been off road, or abused in any way.
While driving around 70+ mph and moving over small bumps in the road whether be a bridge transition or small pot hole steering wheel shakes violently only goes away after slowing down to below 60
Ford f-250 superduty deathwobble at 1500 miles..... google the problem it's happening all over the country at an exponential rate. ford doesn't seem very motivated in fixing this dangerous situation needs to be a national recall
Very scary death wobble.at speeds from 45 to 65 mph i have taken the truck to ford with no help. the first time they said the tires were bad. which was very strange because they only had about 20,000 miles on them. so i replaced them at the dealer with factory originals. no fix no help from ford
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving above 60 mph, the front end of the vehicle shook severely and vibrated after driving over a bump in the road. the vehicle was taken to kalispell ford (2000 rose crossing, kalispell, mt) where the dampening shocks were replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 22,000.
Truck front end and steering wheel shakes violently after hitting a bump going 70 mph
At highway speeds the steering wheel will shake violently after hitting a bump in the road. the bump can be as minor as a crack in the pavement or expansion joint. larger bumps on rough roads are worse. the shaking is so severe that steering is impacted and slowing to well below highway speed is required to stop the wobble. this is a major safety issue. i have a video, but upload not allowed by your system.
10/19/2018, at 54 mph, on a smooth, 4 lane freeway at 4:30 am, my truck began shaking and vibrating violently as though i was driving on a rolling flat tire. i immediately let off the gas to slow down as quickly as i could without braking; although difficult to steer, i was able to get the truck over to the shoulder of the road to inspect it. i could not determine there was anything wrong with the truck or any evidence i unknowingly ran over something. later that morning, called 3 ford dealerships to see if i could get my truck in for inspection, which all 3 told me this issue is know as the ford death wobble. i was told that my truck couldn't be seen until the following friday. i contacted my local tire shop whom i have done business with all my fleet trucks and trust their experience in suspension, tire, brake and shock services. the manager told me the same thing about the ford death wobble. he said he would be happy to look at the truck and make sure nothing was loose, broken and that the alignment was correct. that all checked out fine. after researching this, i learned that this is common for the super duty trucks and apparently ford is not doing anything to correct it. this is an extremely dangerous situation and i hope that the nhtsa takes this issue seriously and becomes involved in the remedy of this problem.
While passing a slower vehicle , i hit a small bump in the road which caused the steering wheel to shake violently (death shake) almost losing control of truck. i had to move back over into my lane before i should of and pull off onto the narrow shoulder which caused about 6 vehicles behind me to swerve to miss me. after slowing to about 20 mph the shake went away. i continued on driving till i was able to pull off into a safe area to inspect for a cause, but did not see anything loose or abnormal in any steering or suspension components. fortunately i wasn't towing my camper at the time, otherwise i may not have been here to submit this report.
Hit a bump in the road and the front tires began to wobble. has happened several times
Experienced a "death wobble" while traveling at 70 mph on i-96. uncontrollable shaking & bouncing of the front wheels, carried through to steering wheel. entire vehicle shook violently. very hard to control the vehicle. did not stop until pulled to the shoulder and came to a complete stop. several video's of this phenomenon on youtube, including one from nhtsa showing this happening. appropriately named.
While traveling at approximately 40-45 mph, when i hit a bump or series of bumps the front end tends to 'jump' if i'm cornering or will bounce the front end that effects the steering of the truck. at highway speeds (70mph) going straight hit a couple bumps in the road and the trucks front end started violently bouncing to the point i had to slow way down to less than 10mph before it smoothed back out. this is a very scary thing to happen at those speeds. i could have easily lost control and caused a horrible accident.
My truck has the 'death wobble' at high speed on interstate highways
While driving the vehicle on highways/interstates between 60 mph and 75 mph i will hit a ridge or pot hole on roadway; vehicle will rapidly develop an excessive steering wheel oscillation (aka death wobble). will have to slow down and almost stop before death wobble goes away. vehicle has less than 27000 miles on it. this has occurred at least 10 times. the vehicle is all stock with no aftermarket modificatios and have had all rrquired services performed in a timely manner. the ford dealership where i purchased vehicle has performed ford's tsb 18-2268 on vehicle; this did not resolve the issue. the dealership has received additional procedures from ford motor company and have performed them; this did not resolve the issue. i have escalated the issue with ford motor company. they have assigned a case number to the situation; please contact me for the specific case number.
Severe/violent shaking at highway speeds with any deviation in road surface (bridges/ transitions/potholes). first documented in 2018 around 20,000 miles. ford dealer replaced steering components in april 2019 with 32470 miles. wobble returned in july of 2019 at 39000 miles and continued to worsen. brought back to dealer 9/25/19 and the reported no issues or repairs needed. brought back to dealer again on 10/15/19 with 42k miles and the tech went for a test drive with me and a 5 minute trip it wobbled twice at highway speeds requiring significant braking to 35mph to avoid losing control of the vehicle. i'm afraid to drive the truck on the highway for fear of death/injury. ford is ordering the same parts that were replaced in april 2019.
On two separate occasions, our ford f-250 started to violently shake in the front end after going onto an overpass on the highway. this is a violent wobble of the front end. it feels like the entire front suspension is going to self destruct. this happened one time at a speed of 65 mph and another time at a speed of 75 mph. in order to get the front end shaking to stop, the vehicle had to be slowed down to approximately 35 mph. during both episodes, the steering wheel was violently shaking and it felt like the front tires were wobbling. the first time this happened, it was so violent that the front windshield cracked. the first episode occurred with approximately 21,000 miles on the vehicle. after that episode, we took the truck into the ford dealership and they replaced some parts in the front suspension and indicated it was fixed. the second episode occurred with about 29,000 miles on the vehicle. we again took the vehicle into the ford dealership and they changed the caster setting on the vehicle to an out of spec condition and told us that the ford regional service rep told them that would fix the problem. after getting the vehicle back from that service visit, there was a vibration in the steering at speeds between 72 mph and 76 mph. the steering wheel would vibrate back and forth at a relatively high speed. the vehicle is at the dealership for a third time to address this newest problem. the vehicle now has right at 36,000 miles on it and is at the end of the warranty mileage. the first instance was approx october 1, 2018 and the second instance was approx march 1, 2019.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving various speeds on a clear road surface, the vehicle shook violently out of control. as a result, the steering column shook violently. the contact stated that the steering wheel needed to be held with extreme force to keep the vehicle in its lane. the contact stated that the failure was experienced on a daily basis and the shaking failure worsened. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 8,000.
When i am driving down the freeway and i hit any small bump the truck and steering wheel shakes violently.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving 69 mph over a bump in the road, the vehicle exhibited the "death wobble" from the front suspension. the contact was unable to regain control until the speed was under 40 mph. the contact stated that the previous owner had the vehicle repaired at landmark ford trucks, inc (3401 e clear lake ave, springfield, il 62702, (217) 528-0770); however, the failure recurred. the contact took the vehicle back to landmark ford trucks, inc, but the mechanic was unable to properly diagnose the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: cas-15627787. the approximate failure mileage was 10,100. *dt updated 10/2/18*jb
At 36,000 miles 2017 f250 sd began to exhibit extreme loss of control with steering after traveling over uneven roadway. road bumps caused violent shaking of the steering at speeds in excess of 35 mph. (death wobble). dealer inspected and replaced track bar ball joint and non-functional steering damper...drove 300 miles and wobble is back again. very unsafe condition as malfunctions occur in traffic, no recall or technical service bulletin issued by ford at this time. someone is going to lose their life.
This problem started at 17,000 miles, hitting a bump at highway speeds of 55-70 mph, experienced violet shaking of steering wheel, the truck has 42,000 miles on it now with no resolve to the problem. has been back to the dealer at least 4 times and still has the problem, i have been lucky that i was able to keep truck on highway without causing an accident.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. the contact stated that after 22,000 miles, the vehicle experienced the "death wobble" on the highway. while driving 65 mph or more, the entire front end of the vehicle shook. the contact slowly released the accelerator pedal and pulled off the road. the contact continued driving without issue for the remainder of the trip. the vehicle was taken to athens ford (4260 atlanta hwy, athens, ga 30606, (706) 521-0778) where they replaced a trackbar. the failure recurred multiple times after three to six months. the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and they replaced the trackbar ball joints. the failure recurred after another four months. the dealer diagnosed that the steering damper needed to be replaced after running specs on all parts of the front end of the vehicle. the most recent death wobbly failure occurred during a 500 mile trip. the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to another dealer or trade in the vehicle. the failure mileage was 30,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. after purchasing the vehicle brand new and driving 3,000 miles, it began experiencing the "death wobble". the vehicle was taken back to kerlin motor, inc. (state road 15, silver lake, in 46982, 260-408-6052) three times. during each visit, the dealer contacted the manufacturer and changed the tie rod and performed a realignment. the dealer currently stated that the front shock absorbers could be the cause of the failure. the repairs were covered under warranty. the contact was concerned of a crash occurring due to the failure. the failure mileage was 6,000.
I have a 2017 ford f250 that has "death wobble" issues. it becomes uncontrollable if it hits rough pavement on the highway, usually at 70 mph. if the truck begins to shake it is uncontrollable. it is nearly impossible to steer. the only way to regain control is to slow to about 20 mph or stop completely. while decelerating it will get worse that at 70 mph for a short time, and then slowly stop shaking. i have been to the heller ford dealership in el paso, they replaced a steering stabilizer. the truck now has a vibration in the front end, and feels like it is going to start the death wobble again. the service manager said it was because of worn tires. they have 9/32" of tread on the front. they are however damaged from the wobble, ford will not replace the tires. the tears have about 7/32" and are not "cupped" like the front. the truck does this while in motion on all types of pavement usually 55-70mph
2017 ford f250 front end. at speeds of 50 mph and above if i run over a bump in the road, the front end begins to shake uncontrollably. it is an extremely dangerous situation. i must slow to around 30 mph for it to subside. upon researching this on line, there appears to be hundreds of reports of the same condition. death wobble it is being called. the truck is becoming unusable.
I was pulling a camper down a state highway and hit a place in the road where they repaired a culvert and the steering wheel started shaking violently, i almost lost control before i got slowed down enough to get it to stop. i was only traveling at 55 mph. since then this has happened around 10 times doesn't matter if i'm loaded or not when i hit rough patches in road or bridge transition. it about takes steering wheel out of my had it's shaking so bad, took to deelership and they said they fixed it but it continues to do it and they say they can't get it to happen with them so they really can't do nothing about it. it's hit or miss when it does it but when it happens you can't control it it's like the wheel is shaking so hard it's locked and won't let you steer the truck to keep it from running off into ditch. the truck only has 24600 miles but it's been doing it since around 7000 miles. will continue to take it to them till it gets fixed before i have a wreck.
Violent death wobble when hitting a bump at speeds over 50 mph. vehicle becomes very unstable and shakes violently. must reduce speed immediately to under 20 mph to regain control. have taken to dealer and they cannot fix the problem. investigating lemon law. incredibley unsafe problem. have seen numerous reports of this condition and still no fix/recall.
Death wobble occurred at around13k miles. it is triggered by hitting a bump at 45mph or faster. whole front end shakes so badly your only option is to slam on the brakes and swerve onto the shoulder. shaking goes away at 25mph. dealership could not find a visible problem, but did experience the wobble. mechanic was terrified. ford hq told them to randomly change components until the problem was fixed. it did go away until now. truck has 22k miles on it and the death wobble is back. dealerships cant see anything wrong but wont drive truck long enough to hit the 'right' bump to trigger the wobble, so wont re-fix it. this is a catastrophic failure of the front end, and ford claim not to know anything about it. pa dealership told me they had heard about it being an issue, and other people on line are experiencing the same thing. i am terrified to drive over 35mph in case i hit the bump that triggers it. i have already had a truck and several cars swerve to avoid hitting me. this problem must be rectified, or someone will be injured. the vehicle has been well maintained and has no modifications. wobble does not occur every time i hit a bump. it seems to be certain bumps that trigger it.
2017 f250 first death wobble at 40,000 miles, now 53,000 miles and experience death wobble daily. daily driver, pray to god ford corrects before someone dies! very serious safety issue. at highway speed death wobble forces you to slow to below 40 mph to stop, now you have become a rolling road block to be rear ended.
On highway - the front-end and steering wheel began to wobble back and forth, uncontrollably and violently required breaking to around 20 mph before gaining control. it is described on both the internet and some dealers as "death wobble" this happened three times over a seven (7) hour drive from co to ok at speeds of 70, 65 and 60mph. ford motor co refused to buy back the vehicle and refuses to admit there is an issue. i asked them to buy back the vehicle. they would not. i sold the vehicle back to the ford dealer at a $13,000 loss. i will look forward to joining the class-action law suit when filed as it is a matter of time verses "if" one will be filed. no pictures... just google "ford death wobble"
9800 miles and when hitting a bump at 60-65 it starts shaking violently and the steering wheel will jerk out of your hand. you have to slow down to 25-40 before it will stop. did it 3 times in i-65 between bowling green and louisville ky. wife will not drive or ride it anymore. in four lanes of traffic and raining trying to slow down and get to the side of the road to slow down is very dangerous
Death wobble when you hit a bump at 45 mph + going to get someone killed new truck happens all the time dealer does nothing
While driving at normal highway speeds on an interstate highway, i hit a minor bump in the road and the vehicle started vibrating radically. the steering wheel was extremely hard to control from the front end bouncing. i had to brake rapidly and pull to shoulder under pretty crowded traffic conditions and it didn't stop until almost completely stopped. it did this numerous times on a out of town trip and i took it to my dealer immediately on my return. the date entered is the first time this occurred. it has happened numerous times since then & has been back to dealer 3 times for this. it is at the dealer now.
I've had to had my suspension and steering components replaced 3 times due to severe steering shake when driving in a highway situation. the shaking is so bad that at times i've come very close to causing a bad accident.
Uncontrollable death wobble after hitting rough patches in freeway at 70 mph
I have a 2017 f250 4x4. when driving at speeds of 45mph or faster the frontend will start to shake uncontrollable when i hit any kind of bump in the road. the vehicle has less than 14,000 miles on it. this a major safety concern.
I purchased my 2017 ford f 250 super duty 4x4 in september of 2017. i first noticed an issue with the suspension when hitting a bump in the road at 60 mph and almost lost control of the truck. luckily i was able to slow down and regain control. i begin to do some research and learn of the death wobble that ford is aware of, i will now take my vehicle in to have the suspension checked. secondly, i have been having issue's with my sync3 system, bluetooth, climate control, easy entry and exit for the drivers seat and the apple car play feature. after taking my vehicle to the shop, i was told the sync3 system, a couple modules and the chassis harness was replaced to correct the issue's. i have taken my truck to ford three time for the sync3 malfunction and was told not to use the bluetooth streaming with apple products, which doesn't make sense if it's suppose to work. i have contact ford for a buy back and the answer of course was "no" i have to take it to the shop a few more times for the same repair and it has already been in the shop more for the sync3 issue than any other issue's. hopefully ford figures out there issue's and offer greater customer support for a not so cheap vehicle.
Front tires begin to "wobble & shake" violently of speeds above 60 mph.
Death wobble.. when driving at speeds of 65 to 70 on highway if you hit any kind of bridge or bump in road the vehicle shakes violently like a wheel has fallen off.. you have to come down to 20mph or stop to regain control.. i have only 19000 miles on my truck and this has happened 4 times now.. this is going to kill some one needs fixed.. have had it to dealership 3 times on my way for 4 th today . i bought a new truck to feel safe and i am afraid to drive it now.
Excessive wheel bounce.
