Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while attempting to accelerate to merge onto a highway at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle started to shake violently. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact had to slow down to approximately 30 mph in order for the shaking to stop. the vehicle was previously taken to rockwall ford (990 e interstate 30, rockwall, tx 75087) for the same failure and they replaced the steering stabilizer shock in february of 2019. the vehicle was not taken back to the dealer for the recent failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 39,000.
Death wobble was experienced in january of 2019. truck was taken to ford, and per there invoice, tsb 18-2268 was performed to fix problem. on december 12 of 2019 truck experienced the exact same issue that was previously "fixed". both times this happened, i was driving on the highway and the truck involuntarily went out of my driving lane and made truck unable to control until speeds reached around 35 mph.
While traveling on the expressway at 65 mph i passed over a rough piece of asphalt and the truck started to shimmy then immediately severely shake and shudder. i immediately braked and tried to steer to the shoulder steering was almost impossible. the shaking continued till the truck stopped. this was extremely frightening and uncontrollable. this is the third time this has happened but by far the worst. all 3 times the truck was driving normally at 60 or 65 mph till it hit a minor bump or rough patch of road.
My ford f250 , at about 20k miles started death wobble when driving above 65mph and hitting a series of bumps in the road or coming onto or off of a bridge. the truck will start a violent front end shake and will not stop until you slow down below 35 mph. i had the truck repaired under warranty at 28k miles. at that time ford was pretty nonchalant about it when i inquired. once it was fixed, the front end never felt the same as it did new. the problem eventually returned. i am having the same problem again at 57k miles. i took it back to my dealership and was told it needs parts that are on backorder and they would call me when the parts were available. i drive 50 miles to work every day and the truck does this at least 3-4 times per week. if you google ford f250 death wobble you will see this is a big problem that ford is ignoring. this needs immediate action before someone gets injured or worse.
Catastrophic front end suspension failure again. death wobble every 13k miles. ford have attempted to fix this 3 times. just hit 48 k and death wobble is back for the 4th time. why has there been no recall on such a serious defect? when death wobble happened this time at 65 mph, i could not keep the truck in my lane due to a curve in the road. i forced another car onto the hard shoulder. luckily, they had a hard shoulder to go in. traffic behind me had to unexpectedly jam on their brakes as i had to slow to 25mph. this is a serious issue that the government must get involved with. i offer my truck to anybody working in nhtsa to test for themselves to experience how terrifying this is. (please don't take your children with you). get ford to fix this now. please do something immediately. just read all the complaints.
At 22000 miles my 2017 f250 fx4 all stock has had death wobble 5 times at highway speeds. bringing to dealer next week.
The truck hit a small bump in the road while driving around 45 mph and then started shaking uncontrollably. felt almost like the tire fell off. was very hard to keep on the road. after slowing down the shaking stopped. very scary situation to be in. took truck to ford service and was told this was the "death wobble" that many f250's experience. parts were replaced per fords technical bulletin, but from our understanding this problem may re-occur. very dangerous to drive. would like to see a more permanent assured fix.
The truck will go into a violent shake when hitting a bump at speeds of 60-75 mph. the violent shake in the front suspension will not go away until i slow down to 35 mph. it has happened several times and is very dangerous. i am scared to drive the truck anymore.this is the death wobble many have talked about. my truck is all stock and this started happening at about 15000 miles.
Experiencing death wobble in front suspension of truck when hitting any bumps, grooves etc in highway travel at speeds of 65 to 75 miles per hour. have to slam on brakes to stop extreme wobble in front end. took truck to dealer for repairs 2 times and they discount issue and will not cover repairs. this issue has happened three times while on freeway 11/16/19, 11/28/19 and 12/6/19
When traveling at highway speeds and driving over a bump in the road, the truck begins to shake violently. slowing the vehicle to approximately 45 mph tends to smooth it out. it was taken to the dealership and the replaced the steering dampener and rotated the tires, but the issue still exists and feels a bit worse and is occurring more frequently than before.
2017 ford f-250 stx fx4. every time i hit a sharp bump or bridge section the front end of the truck shakes violently at highway speeds and have to slow down to 30mph before it settles. on the highway! in traffic!. this happened to me 30+ times coming from a jobsite in the chicago area. i live in florida. i've been reading up on this and it appears to be the death wobble. 100's of people are having this problem with the super duty trucks that ford is producing. when will it stop? will it take a death to recitify this issue? i don't even want to drive the truck anymore. from what i've read, owners have taken the trucks into the ford dealers, getting them fixed and still having the issue several thousand miles down the road. and these trucks are not cheap. averaging $45-80k. please help before someone gets hurt or loses a life.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving approximately 65 mph over a bridge, the front end of the vehicle vibrated violently. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact slowed down and pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. the contact stated that the failure occurred twice the previous week. the contact scheduled an appointment with salem ford (60 s broadway , salem, nh 03079) for december 9, 2019 to have the vehicle diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Traveling down interstate 10 in az. encountered uneven road. traveling at 65 mph pulling a 30' airstream classic trailer. the truck went into a violent shaking in the steering. i could hardly hold on to the steering wheel. i appiled the brake as trucks were swerving to get around me at 75 mph. i had my wife put on the emergency flashers as i could not let go of the wheel. i could not steer or move to the right of the road. truck was literally "hopping" as i tried to slow without getting hit from behind. shaking finally subsided when my truck reached 20 mph. i literally was close to stopped on a 75 mph roadway! i increased mt speed again to about 50 mph and the shaking started again. i had to almost stop again. my wife and i were visibly shaking. we could have been killed. we pulled off on the next exit and called a ford dealer. ford dealer replaced front stabilizer shock. ford is back-ordered on their shock for months. wonder why? we replaced it with a third party shock. the suspension was checked and the dealer said it should be fine. two days latter we experienced the shaking again! we are now stuck in palm springs waiting for a dealer to open on monday. i called ford corporate and they said they did not have a recall on this. they said they will call the dealer and me on monday to get their truck division involved. i cannot drive this truck pulling a trailer with this issue. this is a very dangerous problem. i fear driving this in the mountain with roads that curve. when this shaking occurs, you cannot do anything but go straight.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving at an unknown speed, the front end of the vehicle shook violently each time the vehicle drove over a bump in the road. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to anderson ford lincoln (2500 wildcat dr, lincoln, ne 68521, (402) 458-9800), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
While driving the truck over 40 mph on uneven pavement or bumps in the road it will send the vehicle into a death wobble and uncontrollable all over the road. i contacted the dealership and was advised of many complaints but no recalls at this time. it is unsafe and dangerous on highways or any roads over 40 mph. we just purchased this truck 12/2019.
I have a 2017 f250 4x4 which has 30,000 miles on it now and is still covered under the factory 3yr/3600 miles and on 9 different occasions while driving over 55mph my truck has began to shake the front end causing loss of control seems to be mostly after hitting a bump in the road or even a when the pavement was uneven each time that this has happened i have been unable to stop the shaking until the truck was below 30mph and last time i was on a 2 lane undivided road the shake caused me to loose control and cross over the center line of the road into the path of on coming traffic, luckily the car coming the other way saw the problem and drove off the road to avoid a head on accident, after the first time it happened i contacted the ford dealer and set up a time to drop it off for service service only to be told that there was a ford motor company tsb 19-2274 and that this has been going on for several years and before this ford also had a tsb 18-2268 then i also found out that before i bought this truck 60 days ago it was in the ford dealer for the same problem and had parts installed that didn't fix it. i have only drove this truck about 1000miles since i have bought it along with my self having this problem when searching the internet i found out that there are hundreds of truck owners having the same problems and that why there has been 2 different tsb issued for this problem most are complaining that after the repair it still does the violent wheel shake or as ford calls it sustained steering wheel oscillation above 45mph.and worst is the parts noted in the tsb is on extended back order and ford gave back the truck and said drive it and we will contact it when the part comes in this is very unsafe the public refers to this as the death wobble and that is truly what it is, my friend has a brand new 2019 with 4k miles on it that he bought new and it also does it.
At 20,000 miles i experienced the " death wobble" at 75 miles per hour on the highway. hit the brakes hard to get slowed down and i regained control at 30 miles per hour.
I have filed a previous complaint regarding the same issue. (complaint number 11279636) stock 2017 ford f250 now with 38,000 miles. the truck has the death wobble. my truck is on its second steering damper and this time the ford dealer replaced the drag link and the outer tie rod. as well, the dealer adjusted the alignment again... the truck is still experiencing sustained steering wheel oscillation and i am again experiencing the death wobble, less than 1,000 miles after the most recent repair. it is very unfortunate that consumers purchase 50k+ dollar trucks and so many people are nervous driving them down the road. working in automotive, the days are often filled with comments such as the following: continuous improvement. review the data, the data will tell the story. change points. root cause and permanent countermeasures. i have reviewed the historical f250 crew cab 4x4 complaint data on this site (nhtsa) and the data does tell a story. ford is not continuously improving the death wobble issue on the super duty, instead it has gotten worse. there has been a change point with this fourth generation f250. (2017,2018,2019) as of 11/21/19 the fourth generation f250 super duty has had more nhtsa suspension and steering complaints for the death wobble than the previous two generations combined. (9 years. second generation 2008-2010 and third generation 2011-2016) the current repairs (countermeasures) are not effective and are not permanent. this can clearly be seen in the descriptions of the complaints on nhtsa. the repairs either do not fix the problem at all or are only a temporarily band aid for the issue. this is truly a safety concern and to date nothing has been implemented to correct the issue. please, open an investigation and encourage ford to permanently address the issue.
I was driving my f250 on the freeway and after hitting a couple bumps it started doing the death wobble as its called. its a known problem ford has tsb but they don't take this condition seriously as i scheduled an appt with the dealer ship within days and was told the parts are all backordered to repair it and they don't know the date they can get them.
While driving on the highway at 70 mph, if both front wheels hit a bump at the same time, the truck begins to violently shake until the speed is reduced to around 40 mph. this first happened at about 2 years and 40,000 miles. the ford dealership replaced the steering damper and said that would fix the issue. a year later and at 53,000 miles, this began happening again while towing my travel trailer camper. it is about 8,000 lbs and 650 pounds on the hitch. the problem was far worse with the weight distributing hitch than without, however i did experience it twice in about 100 miles on a standard hitch.
While on the highway at approx. 70mph i struck a bump and the front end began to oscillate uncontrollably. the vibration continued until speed was reduced below 40mph. this has occurred twice now. ford replaced a stabilizer after the first occurrence but the problem has returned.
Interstate driving at 70mph hit small bump on bridge and truck steering front end started violently shaking, had to pull over and stop in order to stop the shaking 2017 f250 super duty 20k miles
It's apparently called the death wobble, you are driving at freeway speeds hit a pothole, bump on bridge overpass, ect. wheels start shaking violently, steering wheel shakes back and forth violently. it's very hard to keep control of the truck. very scary and dangerous. i had my dealership work on the problem after the first time i noticed it probably about 19 months ago. didn't have trouble for awhile. recently coming home after thanksgivinig it occurred 3 times on the 2 hour ride home. called my dealership, they're aware of the problem with these models. them supposeded part fix is back ordered and has been for awhile.my truck was new from the factory, $75,000 truck , all stock , i sure hope ford is made to fix these right. i try to avoid driving vehicle on freeway, can't let my girls drive it.was't aware it was such a wide spread problem till i googled it on the internet. there is thousands of complaints on there . this needs to be fixed asap or people are going to get killed.
When traveling at highway speeds if i hit a bump my stearin wheel violently shakes back and forth. i have to reduce speeds to get the shaking to stop.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving 75 mph, the vehicle experienced the death wobble when driving over a bump in the road. the contact temporarily lost control of the vehicle and pulled over to the side of the road. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the failure continued. the contact called flint hills auto (located at 7920 e us-24, manhattan, ks 66502, (785) 776-4004) and informed them of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 30,000. *dt *dt consumer took his truck to flint hills ford on 1.7.2020 and had the steering stabilizer and track bar both need to be replaced. parts were back ordered 4-6 weeks. rattling noise can be heard from the truck. *jb*jb
Experiencing severe steering oscillation (death wobble) under normal highway operation with my factory stock 2017 ford f-250 4x4. vehicle has been taken to my local ford dealership twice for this steering oscillation issue, under factory warranty, and the problem persists. the dealer now states they are unable to replicate the problem and stated a ford factory tech instructed them to increase the front tire pressure to 5 psi over what the door sticker indicates as the recommended psi. the dealer road force balanced the front tires and told me the vehicle could be picked up. i picked up the vehicle and experienced the steering oscillation again on the way home from the dealership. the death wobble normally occurs when the vehicle is traveling straight at speeds between 45 and 55 mph when the vehicle encounters bumps (expansion joints in the roadway) and/or roadway to bridge transitions. the vehicle shakes violently and the steering wheel oscillates rapidly. the vehicle returns to normal function when the speed is reduced to speeds under 30 mph.
When driving on highway at 70 mph hit small bump and steering wheel vibrates out of my hand. has happened several times. have taken back to dealership but cant fix but charged me 350.00
While driving at 75 mph on the hwy the truck did a death wobble i had to slow to 25 mph to get it to stop. the truck only has 13500 miles on it i bought it new and have been the only one to drive it. i'm 45 yrs old and truck has never left the road it has been maintained to the max for ford to say people are not maintaining these trucks is why they are doing this is a complete lie. please look into this before more people get killed. the dealers will tell you flat out they have a problem. why won't ford fix them?
I was driving at 75 mph on interstate 10 heading to junction texas. there was an area of highway construction and as i was coming off of this construction there was some uneven road and bumps. my front left tire started to shake, the steering wjheel started to shake and it progressively got so bad that the entire truck was shaking. i had to gently apply the brakes but unable to steer appropriately we veered into the median of i10. i had both my 3 and 6 year old in the truck. had there been a median wall or traffic this likely would have been a serious accident. this same scenario happened 2 more times on our trip both at bridge interfaces.
Several times my truck has gone into a severe shimmy while traveling at freeway speeds. the only way to get it to stop is to stand on the brakes and hope anyone behind me is alert. i have owned a 2009,and a 2013 f-250 and never had this problem with them.
During my vacation, my 2017 ford f250 with 24,000 miles began to experience the "death wobble" whenever i would cross a bridge expansion joint or other rough patches on the road at speeds over 60 mph. the front end oscillated so severely the truck was not controllable. it had to be slowed down to 35-40 mph to get it back under control. it became so severe, i quit driving it 1,700 miles from home and took it to a ford dealer in the area i was at. the problem is the steering stabilizer aka steering damper. ford previously replaced it under warranty and then that part failed again.when this situation occurs, it is extremely dangerous as the vehicle cannot be controlled until it is slowed down considerably.
Death wobble at speeds of 60-70. uncontrollable tell vehicle is brought to a complete stop. happens on highways. hard to control truck. this is dangerous.
I had just stopped for gas and got back on the highway and was in the passing lane going over a bridge deck and as soon as i came off the bridge the truck started shaking horribly. i let the car next to me pass as i slowed down and pulled over. scared myself and my uncle to death and still had to drive 160 miles to get home. after returning home i have taken it to the local dealer and they replaced damper steering linkage but as our family vehicle we do not feel comfortable in it's safety!
The 'death wobble'. upon hitting bridge expansion joints above 60 the front end wobbles so volatility that i come close to losing control. i cannot safely drive this vehicle now. i'm paying over $800 a month to own a vehicle i cannot drive.
2017 ford super-duty f-250 pick-up truck; violent shaking of front end while driving at various highway speeds. my vehicle began to shake violently on 2 separate occasions, for seemingly no reason, while driving at normal operating speeds. rapid deceleration required immediately to regain control of vehicle. both occurred while operating on paved roads ( freeway/expressway and 2 lane highway ) - no pot holes or bumps hit, that i am able to recall.
At speeds above 55 mph when you hit a bump or pot hole or just about anything the wheels on the truck begin to violently shake. it feels like the lug nuts are loose and the tires are going to fly off. the only way to get it to stop shaking is to slow down to 30 mph or less. sometimes you need to come to almost a complete stop. this is extremely dangerous on busy highways or in the rain or snow.
2017 f250 when traveling at speed of 65 on major hwy the steering went into a death wobble where there was a slight imperfection in hwy very difficult to control.
2 events-2 weeks apart i believe it is referred to as the death wobble. in both events, i hit a bump on the interstate at 70 miles an hour. the steering wheel started to shake violently and i could not steer the vehicle. all i could do was hit the brakes. at about 30 mph the shaking stopped and i could pull over to the side of the highway to look at the tire. i thought a tire had come off the truck. truck has 38000 miles and is now out of warranty. now faced with an expensive repair and to be honest i am now a little scared to drive the truck at freeway speeds. definitely never going to pull my fifth wheel trailer again with this truck. thanks for listening.
Hit a bump at 70mph on highway and starts a death wobble. (front end uncontrollably shakes) happened previously and ford replaced stabilizer. still having problems
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving approximately 70 mph over a bump in the road, the front end of the vehicle wobbled severely until the speed was reduced to approximately 35 mph. the contact stated that the failure occurred twice on november 17, 2019. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 18,700.
I've had multiple occasions of the death wobble while drive at higher speeds. the latest incident happened yesterday 11/16/20 and was the worst incident so far. driving down the highway at 60 mph after hitting a couple seems in the concrete the truck began to violently shake and wobble, progressively getting worse over the course of 1-2 mins. i let my foot off the gas peddle and applied slight pressure to the breaks, which made the wobble worse. after finally slowing down to ~30 mph the truck stopped wobbling and shaking. i honestly believe a less experienced driver could have easily lost control and rolled the truck causing a multiple vehicle accident on the highway killing people.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving approximately 70 mph over a bump in the road, the vehicle vibrated abnormally and became uncontrollable. when the brake pedal was depressed, the vibration became more pronounced. the vehicle was taken to portsmouth ford (400 spaulding turnpike, portsmouth, nh 03801, (603) 433-1221) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle experienced a phenomenon known as the "death wobble". the contact was informed that the steering dampener needed to be replaced; however, the part was on backorder. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 25,600.
While driving about 65 miles an hour the steering wheel started to vibrate violently almost losing control. i pulled over and inspected tires and rims thinking one of the front tires was about to come off. everything looked normal. scared the crap out of me! i had the tires rotated at 15k and had the shop inspect everything and found nothing. internet is calling this the "death wobble". ford going to inspect and poss replace steering stabilizer. this has happened before but not as severe. thought it was road vibration. now i know better. this is a serious issue that needs attention before someone is killed! then there is the issue of increased front end wear. reports say ford is not covering damage, says its the buyer's lack of maintenance. this is a truck with under 15k miles and is having problems. please investigate.
40,000 miles death wobble uncontrollable shaking after driving over bride while driving on highway had to run off into the median and grass slowing down as quickly as possible. this is a deadly issue and known to ford. please take action before people are killed in these trucks. i contacted my local ford dealer and there is no recall for this issue.
Vehicle enters into "death wobble" when hitting uneven pavement at speeds above 50mph. the only way to stop the wobble, even if the pavement is smooth, is to slow down below 30mph.
I was traveling on a flat highway in kansas at approximately 65 mph, there was no inclement weather. i came upon a typical highway bridge, and when front wheels crossed the bridge expansion joint the front of the truck started to violently shake. the steering wheel started to also violently shake and turn back and forth, about an 1/8th turn each way, back and forth very fast. i immediately began slowing the vehicle and gripped the wheel harder to try to keep from going off the road. the shaking continued unchanged until vehicle reached speeds of approximately 20mph. after the incident i drove the vehicle home and inspected the steering and suspension components, finding no abnormalities.
I was traveling along i-40 going about 75 miles per hour around a slight curve to the left when i hit a small bump. the entire front end of my truck began to shake violently. the truck became very difficult to control as the steering wheel was ripped out of my hands. i pulled a muscle in my arm trying to regain control the first time it happened. the shaking went away as soon as i slowed down to about 68mph, and did not return as i accelerated further. this began happening on 11/12/2019 at approximately 38k miles. here is a link to the video of what occurred. https://www.facebook.com/100036038931239/videos/158294595381837/ here is another link to a video from another occasion. https://www.facebook.com/100036038931239/videos/158075658737064/ here is a link of this same issue affecting another person's truck. https://www.facebook.com/clint.patton.5/videos/10101610077554026/ this problem is so common, there is a class action lawsuit in progress. https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/consumer-products/auto-news/901841-ford-class-action-alleges-death-wobble-truck-defect/ you guys seriously need to force ford to issue a recall and fix these trucks before someone loses it and gets killed. this is not a myth, this is not b.s., this is serious. you're welcome to come drive my truck and experience it yourself. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle shook violently over bumps in the road. the failure recurred several times without warning. the vehicle was taken to merle kelly ford (620-431-0100, located at 3501 s santa fe ave, chanute, ks 66720) where unknown parts were replaced. the technician stated that the failure was a known issue. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the contact stated that the vehicle was not completely repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 30,500. the vin was unknown.
The front suspension and steering components develop a violent vibration after driving over a bridge expansion joint or a pothole at highway speeds. this phenomenon is more commonly referred to as the 'death wobble'. i have found that slowing to a stop on the highway is the only way to stop the vibration and regain control of the steering. it is unsafe to stop in the middle of the highway with traffic around you. it is unsafe to not have control of your steering especially when other traffic is all round you.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving 70 mph on the freeway, the contact drove over a bump in the road, which caused the vehicle to violently shake without warning. the contact managed to veer to the shoulder, exit the vehicle, and check the tires, but no failure was found. the contact began driving again over another bump and the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to fleet side ford (1120 jeffreys dr, osceola, ia 50213, (641) 342-2537), but the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired; however, an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 16,600. the vin was unknown.
