The truck has developed what is called the death wobble. truck has 53,000 miles on it .took to ford at 47,000 miles and they replaced the steering damper assy. happened again today after being on highway traveling about 65 mph. hit small bump and truck started shaking uncontrolably. had to hit brakes hard with cars behind me to slow down to about 30mph before it stopped. not happy with putting my life or others in danger.will be calling ford again on monday about issue.
This truck when traveling over 70 mph goes into a violent wobble and shakes and moves all over the road. especially while traveling over 70 and hitting a pot hole or bridge seam we have been on a major highway with semi trucks around us and the truck starts to violently shake and lose control. we took it to the dealer and they added a streaking stabilizer. one week later it started up again.
While traveling down the interstate at a speed of 70mph hit a bridge that was raised (rough bridge)causing the vehicle to violently shake (death wobble)...almost lost control of vehicle. extremely terrifying. could have killed my husband and i! after vehicle was dropped to a speed of approx 35-40 mph the truck straightened out.
I was traveling on a highway doing approximately 70 mph (speed limit). when i hit a bridge expansion joint the truck started violently vibrating to the point i was losing control of the vehicle. i rapidly decelerated and the violent shaking stopped after i slowed the vehicle to approximately 25 mph. the shaking was so violent i was seconds away from veering off the road into the trees. there is a technical bulletin from ford about this issue, but it is not a recall. someone is likely going to die for what is obviously a design and/or manufacturing defect. the technical bulletin from ford on this issue is: tsb# 18- 2268. nthis needs to be a recall.
Horrible death wobble. have taken it into the dealer twice now. they cannot fix it. if you research it on the internet is a big design flaw because there is not enough caster adjustment. this is going to kill someone if it has not already happened. please have them fix this. i do have a video
While driving on the highway and you hit a bump the trucks starts shaking violently. i read its called death wobble. it has done it multiples times, and it is hard to control. i had ford perform the tsb for this and it did not help.
Truck shakes uncontrollably after hitting a bump in the road going 70 mph. dealer can't find a problem and the shaking happens every day at highway speeds and below. almost went off the road and barely missed hitting another car. have to slow down almost to a stop to make it quit.
Steering wheel started shaking violently out of nowhere while driving on the interstate.i was traveling approximately 70 mph when out of the blue the vehicle/steering wheel violently started shaking and i started losing control of the vehicle. i had to hold on to the steering wheel as tight as i could and brake and it finally came under control. i literally thought i was going to die, that was the scariest moment of my life!! i will not drive this vehicle on the interstate again, nor will i let my children ride in this vehicle again. this is the 4th time this has happened and it is a very serious problem with this truck and it is very frightening.
Experience what is called the "death wobble", severe steering oscillation. traveling at highway speed 60 mph or better hit a bump in the road. oscillation started, to regain positive control of vehicle i had to reduce speed to under 35 miles an hour. in traffic at 60 mph is extremely dangerous if there is no shoulder or if you are in the fast lane. luckily each time this occurs i have been in a rural area. if i were on the dc beltway and this occurred, without a doubt this would cause a multiple vehicle event with injuries..
Driving in forward motion above 50 miles per hour, the vehicle will experience an uncontrollable wobble when hitting any size bump in the road. this is not an intermittent event. this occurs with vehicle empty or under tow (loaded). the only way to correct it is to slow down below 40 mph. i have researched this phenomenon online and have found hundreds of customers experiencing the same issue. most have reported ford is aware of the problem. it has also been discussed in the forum that ford used to cover the repair, but is no longer covering under warranty. my truck only has 20000 miles on it, i only use it for everyday driving and towing a camper under normal conditions. tires are in good condition and inflated properly. the condition presents on any type road at speeds above 50 mph. i have also noted a creaking/ clunking sound during slow speed tight turns in the parking lot.
When traveling on the highway and run over bumps or bridge expansion joints the truck will vibrate so bad you have to come to a complete stop to get it to stop. this is very dangerous to me and my family and other drivers on the road. have taken it in to ford dealership three times so far
While traveling on a straight country road at, or slightly above the 55mph speed limit, the front tires of my 2017 ford f250 4x4 truck suddenly began shaking violently "aka death wobble". the only way to stop this shaking was with hard application of the brakes. the mileage on the truck at the time was slightly over 11,000 miles. this has occurred a number of times since, and often times while traveling on freeways, and at freeway speeds (60- 75 mph). since the first incident, i have noticed the shaking follows when one of the front tires is jolted by a bump- such as a transition between concrete and asphalt, or other uneven road conditions. this starts the front suspension in a back and forth bouncing motion and violent shaking of the steering wheel. again requiring sudden braking of the truck in order to stop the wobbling. the most recent incident(s) occurred this past weekend while towing a 5th wheel trailer. the mileage passed 15,000 miles during this trip. again, the wobble was only stopped by aggressive braking. this occurred twice on this trip. first on the interstate, and the second time on a secondary highway. this is obviously an unsafe condition that could have resulted in an accident- if following vehicles were to able to avoid my trailer.
Extreme vibration shaking thru the steering wheel at 50 miles per hour on smooth road. vehicle experienced these effects on a smooth road with no warning. vehicle has 10700 miles and is excellent condition. was very scary as i had to apply aggressive braking to slow the vehicle , felt like the vehicle would run off the road as the steering wheel was violently shaking , like a wheel was coming off. very serious issue, as there was no warning or indication . after this event researched the issue and found out that this is a known issue and as an owner i should have been notified. i am afraid to drive the vehicle now , it is faulty and un safe , its needs repaired.. i am very surprised that there has been no oversight on this issue with a the minimum a notice of a potential issue . i felt like i had lost temporary control of the vehicle and was going to crash, just not acceptable.
While traveling down the interstate at 70 mph the whole truck started vibrating violently to the point of losing control. only slowing to below 40 mph will stop the vibrating. immediately took the truck to dealership and was told that they are aware of the "death wobble" but parts are on back order. they tell me that ford is aware of the problem but has not issued a recall. this is going to kill someone.
While driving at highway speeds (60mph), i hit a bump in the road and the truck began to shake violently in the front end, to a point that i felt i might lose control. the only way i could get it to stop was to significantly reduce speed. this has happened twice now and is "very" concerning. the second time was at highway speed as well, this time 70mph.
Vehicle started small shimmy while driving over bumps six months ago. today while traveling 75 mph, small bump lead to such violent shaking of front end i had to slow to 35 mph on interstate. new smyrna dealership indicates they have never heard of this before. tire pressure is normal. tires rotated with each oil change . 31,000 miles. scheduling appointment with dealership asap. this may represent a serious design or mechanical malfunction problem. many reports of this nature on internet.
Issues with the "death wobble" on 3 occasions. one accelerating at 45-50 mph and hit a small pot hole. other two times were driving 70-75 and hit a bump in the highway.
On 1/21/2020 i was driving highway speeds on sh225, went under bw8, and the truck began shaking uncontrollably. it felt as if the entire truck was going to shake apart. i was almost in a wreck because the truck would not stop shaking and the steering was impacted. the dash, mirrors, seats, and literally everything on and in the truck was violently vibrating and shaking. had to reduce speed to about 30mph and the shake finally subsided, after multiple cars could tell something was wrong as well - and they were seeing this happen from outside the truck! this has happened previously, to a lesser extent in december which caught me off guard and the issue subsided quicker than this time. not sure what the issue is but it is extremely dangerous and could have seriously injured me or other drivers due to a loss of control of the vehicle. i have dropped my truck off at mac haik ford in pasadena, tx. it is still under warranty - about 25k miles on the truck.
My 2017 ford f-250 has what is being called at the dealership and online as having the death wobble. i have experienced this wobble both while driving on the highway at highway speeds 55-75 mph and on secondary roads as well at speeds between 35-45 mph. when this wobble occurs it is impossible to control the vehicle as the steering wheel and truck is shaking so violently. this has caused me to leave the travel lane twice and end up on the shoulder of the road. this is going to cause an accident and it will possibly kill either myself or someone else. i took it to my dealership and they stated that ford is aware of the problem however there are no parts available to fix the problem and no idea of when there will be parts available. furthermore when i asked if the truck was safe to drive the service representative told me it should be. safety is a yes or no question there is no gray area. it is only a matter of time before there is a fatal accident involving this problem if it is not corrected.
Crossed over vehicle warranty at 36000... at 38k the vehicle had first "death wobble" at approx 70mph (highway) after hitting minor road imperfection.. vehicle is now at just under 40,000 miles on odometer.. have had 4 other episodes in this brief period of time. this is a major safety issue that will eventually lead to someone's pointless loss of life. this issue is well documented throughout the internet in countless blogs-websites-and videos. to charge anywhere from $35,000-$90,000 depending on model and knowingly put peoples lives at risk over a problem (that my dealership and the ford customer care program admit is a problem) and not issue a recall or buyback is reprehensible and negligent.
While driving at freeway speed, steering wheel and suspension was shaking to the point of about to lose control. only by driving under 50mpg was i able to safely return to a dealer for service. hitting a bump in the road amplified the issue. i took the vehicle to the dealer where they stated it is the steering dampening system. they do not have new parts or time of repair. i was nearly in 3 accidents with a semi when this happened. it required immediate attention and resolution before anyone is killed
Driving on highway between 60mph and 80mph if rough patch or bump the road is hit the truck will start shaking violently and the steering will lock up. the problem does not correct itself until the truck is slowed to 30mph. it is starting to happen more often. today with my kids in the car it happened and i almost hit a concrete highway divider. i have taken the truck to the dealership and was told that ford is aware of the problem but the parts that are to fix it dont remedy the issue. basically there's nothing they can do at this point. this problem is going to cause an accident so i am not driving the expensive truck i've had for only a year and definitely will not have my kids in it until something is fixed.
While traveling at highway speeds, crossing over small bumps or other disturbances in the road such as potholes or jointed sections, the vehicle began to shake and shimmy to the point of feeling like it would explode. happened twice now and only remedy is to slow down considerably until it gets back to normal. very violent and very scary.
Ford repair shop called and said the issue was corrected. test drove. both the owner and service tech experienced the problem when driving the truck. service tech placed truck back in the shop for further repairs. this is the fourth time for this repair with 20,000 highway miles on the truck. issue was steering wheel vigorously and uncontrollably when encountering a slight imperfection on a straight, level, and paved highway.
I am reporting a suspension & steering problem with my 2017 ford f-250 with 28,000 miles. the tires are in good condition and properly inflated. the vehicle has never been in a collision, had any frame work performed on it and the steering and suspension had been operating acceptably. while driving on a limited access highway at approximately 65 to 70 mph, the vehicle drove over a moderate bump in the lane. the front suspension and steering began shaking, vibrating and oscillating severely at a high frequency (relatively fast vibration). the shaking continued for a significant amount of time and it seemed impossible to steer as the suspension and steering shook. i took my foot off the gas pedal but was afraid touching the brakes would make the condition worse. there was little to no control of the vehicle while this was happening. the shaking/vibrating did not stop until the vehicle eventually slowed down. about a mile further down the same road the vehicle encountered another moderate bump at approximately 60mph and experienced the exact same condition. about 2 miles after that the vehicle encountered another minor bump and experienced the same severe shaking again. at that point, i operated the vehicle at about 50 mph (15 mph below the speed limit) and exited at the first exit i got to. i took local roads at speeds under 50 mph to return home. i have operated this truck and a 2020 ford explorer over this same road, in the same lane and over the same bumps numerous times and never experienced any problem with the explorer or such a severe reaction with the f-250. with the 2017 ford f-250, i have experienced the front of the vehicle jumping laterally when traveling over these bumps and others like them since the vehicle was new. these bumps are not deep potholes and are typical moderate bumps commonly encountered on many older highways. the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired twice, but the failure recurred a short time later.
Stock vehicle. while travailing on freeway front of trick started shaking severely. slowed down to pull over and inspect. thank goodness no one was around me at the time. truck was swerving at 65 miles an hour. pulled over to inspect. did not see anything. started back on freeway going slower. shaking was gone. 2 weeks later same thing. on highway again. same thing truck started shaking violently. slowed to 25 mi per hr. shaking subsided, resumed to slower speed. ford needs to fix this issue. reading about death wobble issues in ford diesel nhtsa. dealership told me to get in right away. 2nd person within a week to call for same thing.
When driving at approximately 50mph and coming into contact with any uneven spots in the road the truck will shake violently and jump up and down left and right so bad that it is impossible to do anything but hit the brakes.when the vehicle slows to about 30mph the shaking subsides and is fine until the next bump in the road.. it happened 3 times in 5 mins and in less than 1 mile distance on a state highway .. this is a serious problem and needs corrected before someone is killed.. the first time it happened i had about 8000 miles on my vehicle ,it has happened 10 times since, every time at speeds greater than 50mph
Driving approximately 65 mph on a dry road 01/03/2020 i went over a slight rough spot in the road. the front wheels immediately began to vibrate severely. the steering wheel was shaking out of control. i hit the brakes to slow down to approximately 35 mph when the vibrating wheels and the shaking stopped. this is the fourth time this has happened to over the two and a half years i have owned this truck. in reading about other complaints i do not understand why ford is not addressing this problem. i am taking my truck to my ford dealer on monday to have them tell me what they are going to do about this issue. this could have easily caused an accident as the truck was violently shaking. people tend to panic and may have drastic reactions when something like this happens. we need to keep up the pressure on ford to recognize this problem and fix it before somebody gets hurt or killed.
Death wobble at 70mph on 4 lane state highway. i have to reduce speed to <35mph for it to stop. happening more & more frequent.
My truck has developed the "death wobble". it has been in to the ford dealer for repairs for this issue. the dealer performed the tsb from ford and replaced the front stabilizer. that has failed to correct the issue. yesterday, 1/2/2020, i was crossing a bridge when the truck went into the death wobble. the truck began to shake and vibrate violently almost causing me to wreck myself and another vehicle. the death wobble lasted about 20 seconds and stopped once i was able to slow the vehicle almost to a stop on a major interstate. this condition is well known by ford but they have yet to find a solution. i paid $70k for this truck and i am now afraid to drive it for fear of my life and the safety of others.
Driving out of state, 1000 miles from home. driving home. entering the freeway and accelerating, the steering wheels began the "death wobble" described by so many ford owners. exit freeway and limp back to local dealership. local ford dealership has no parts. nation wide back order. my family is stranded 1000 miles from home. dealer says "just drive it and when it starts to wobble, slow down until it stops". this is not a safe option. this truck has 18,160 miles on it!! installing after market parts just to get my family home. i do not know if this truly solved the problem. this is, in my opinion, criminal to leave people with little or no options. this is a known problem. this "wobble" at highway speeds is a major danger to all persons in the area of this truck. my family and other families may be at risk. i have paid for a truck. i want a truck that is safe and dependable. this is not acceptable.
Vehicle has experienced the well-known-by-ford death wobble. first time was at approx. 29k miles. took it to dealership and they too were well aware of this problem. they performed the known "fix" and vehicle was okay for a bit. the second time the problem occurred (approx. 40k miles), there was a palpable difference in the feel of the steering post-event. subsequent to the first experience, i moved and the first dealership was over 100 miles away, so i took the vehicle to my local dealership (along with the paperwork from the first fix). again, service techs were well-versed in the death wobble and they claimed that ford had rolled out a new "fix" and that what the first dealership had done was incorrect. an extended warranty was purchased with this vehicle; however this dealership was unable to locate it and tried to charge me for this fix. whether they could locate the warranty or not, this is a continued problem and the consumer should not have to pay for this fix at any point in the life of the vehicle. several rounds of back and forth later, ford finally agreed to pay. within one month of this "fix", another death wobble occurred. the vehicle has been back at the dealership for almost a week, and we have again gone back and forth on payment. the dealership did finally locate the extended warranty, but again...the consumer should not have to pay as it is a ford problem. all times that this has occurred, i have been traveling at a high rate of speed (over 70 mph) and am forced to immediately slam on the brakes and get to the shoulder. i am frequently towing items, and can't imagine how this would go down if it occurred in that instance. ford continues to roll out these $75,000+ trucks knowing that this problem is not fixed. i now have, again, a $75k vehicle i feel is unsafe to drive. dealership states they see this daily. how is this legal???
My f-250 had about 26,000 miles on it when i first experienced the "death wobble". while driving at 75 mph i went over an expansion joint on the interstate in ks. it was at this time the pickup started violently shaking and the steering wheel was dangerously difficult to control with the oscillation. after slowing to around 30 mph the oscillation stopped. the smell of burning rubber filled the cab. this same even happened two more times within an hour and a half. after the first incident i could feel the death wobble start in the steering wheel a second or less before the violent shaking started. all three times it occurred on the interstate at speeds of 75 and 70 mph. i do not trust the safety of this vehicle!!!
I was travelling on the interstate at about 70mph. i crossed a bridge expansion gap, slight bump, and the steering wheel/front end of the vehicle vibrated so dramatically, i had to reduce speed and the vibrations stopped around 35mph as i moved to the shoulder. i took the truck to the ford dealer to have it serviced and was told that this is a known/common problem and that they will not have the parts to fix the vehicle for six to eight weeks at best. i was also advised not to drive the vehicle with the existing steering stabilization problem and that i could buy after market steering dampening shock and linkage to fix the problem.
I just had two experiences with 'death wobble' in one day and it was my first time dealing with it. i was traveling at about 65 mph hit a hit a bump in the road on a small county road that sent my truck front steering jerking back and forth and i had to pull off the road to get it back under control. i thought it was a tire issue and got out and look at tires and shocks and linkage to find nothing wrong. second is the worst, i had my family in the truck on the way home and i hit another bump in the road when it started again. i this is very unnerving and i don't feel safe driving especially with family in truck
Vehicle will violently wobble from small road bumps at speeds above 55mph
I am experiencing severe shaking in my frontend suspension/steering when hitting a bump on one side of my vehicle. the shaking occurred while i was traveling at approximately 65 mph on a rural 2 lane road. i could not control the shaking. i had to slow to 25 mph before it would stop and i could regain control of the vehicle. today was the third time this has happened. each time it occurs it when one side of the vehicle hits a bump or dip in the road. each time it happened i was traveling at a high rate of speed (at least 60 mph). i don't feel safe driving my vehicle over 60 mph. especially with my family in the truck or near other people on the road. in my quick research it appears to be wide spread with ford super duty trucks. my truck has stock suspension and steering and has never been in an accident. there are currently 26,000 mile on my ford f-250.
Violent shaking of the front end when hitting a bump at 70 mph that almost made driver lose control of the vehicle until slowing down to 50 mph.
On saturday, december 28, i was traveling at 75 mph on i-555 southbound at the bay overpass. as the vehicle was driven upon the overpass, the steering wheel jerked left and right violently until i quickly slowed to about 30 mph. it was only then i was able to safely regain control of the truck. my wife was present and witnessed how difficult it was for me to hold the truck on the roadway. the local ford dealer repaired this identical problem in november 2018 and again in december 2019. since receiving the truck after the second repair, there has been notable, but lesser, steering wheel movement when encountering uneven pavement.
I was on an interstate going into a gradual turn and went over an expansion joint which resulted in uncontrollable shaking of the front wheels and steering wheel. this forced me off of the road striking a curb and blowing out my right front tire. my truck had done minor shaking for several months when going over expansion joints. i have had 2 other violent shaking events when in excess of 55 mph. i will no longer drive above 50 mph in this vehicle as it is unsafe. minor road irregularities are resulting in increased but controllable shaking at this point. it is worse when turning or on a curve. it still shakes even on a straight roadway at lower speeds just not as violently. the vehicle has less than 30,000 miles and tire rotation has been conducted as set out in the owners manual.
Going 64 mph, i encountered a tremendous 'death wobble' that complete shook my truck so hard that the rear view mirror came off. it took about a 1/2 mile of decelerating too about 50 mph to stop the wobble. it occurred again about 1 mile down the highway. seems to happen when the highway meets a bridge or overpass.
I own a 2017 ford f-250 crew cab 4 wd and have a serious problem with a steering wheel shake while hitting rough road( death wobble). steering shakes so violently that you almost loose control. it has happened at highway speeds and slower speeds. vehicle is not safe to drive. dealer gave me back the truck and said they will let me know when ford has a fix for it. i have only owned the truck for a week and spent $40k for something that is not safe
While driving home and driving about 70mph hit a small bump in the road and the steering wheel started to oscillate violently and truck was shaking violently. truck was difficult to control and i had to quickly reduce the speed to under 30mph for the oscillation to stop. did it again 10 minutes later on a similar small bump in the road. pulled over and inspected the undercarriage of the truck and found nothing loose. drove it home and setup an appointment with the dealer for the next availability.
I was driving my truck on christmas day and hit a small bump on the highway and all of a sudden my truck started shaking violently and was hard to control. i slowed down to approx. 30-35 mph and the shaking went away. this is the second time this has happened. i took it to the dealer and the service tech said it was 'death wobble' and even put that on the service order. they said they would order a new improved stabilizer and that it would it would be take 6-8 weeks to receive the part. i am now with a truck that my wife and grandkids will not ride in and i am concerned about driving it. the shaking is very violent and the vehicle is very hard to control. then, having to slow to 30mph in a middle lane on the highway is very dangerous and could cause a serious accident.
Drove over a small bump on the road and front end of truck started to shake so bad had to slow down to get it to stop.that shake was also felt in the steering wheel.i was driving down the road at 55 to 60 mph.
This is the second ford f250 i've had in less than a month that has a severe problem with the suspension/steering.driving above 45-50mph and you drive over uneven road surface, the steering wheel will start to shake side to side and almost cause lose of control. i had this happen twice on two separate trucks, both 2017 f250's.it is very unsafe to drive especially at highway speeds. ford knows there is a problem, but doesn't have the correct parts to fix it. dealer is no help.the truck only has 21k miles.
Traveling at 75 mph on ks turnpike while crossing a bridge hit a small bump that is the bridge joint and my ford f-250 supper duty truck began a violent shake in the front end causing me to almost loose control. pulled to the side of the road and inspected vehicle but found no flat or damage. continued at minimum highway speed with no problems. while traveling at 55 mph and crossing railroad tracks crossing the road incident happened again but not as severe. attempted to schedule a repair with rusty eck ford, who transferred my call twice and ended up with the voicemail of the maintenance manager. left name, number and information of issue. no return call as of december 26th.
My truck is currently at 21000 miles. i've experienced the 'death wobble' 4-5 times in the past but on a recent trip of only 250 miles, it occurred at least 10 times. travel speed was between 60-70mph. usually happened on county roads that aren't perfectly smooth, but even on fresh asphalt....one little bump can cause problems. i believe it has something to do with the steering and suspension linkage, vehicle weight or wheel alignment (probably all of the above).
While driving this vehicle and after hitting a bump or dip in the road the vehicle experiences the death wobble. it is even more pronounced while pulling a horse trailer and this makes the truck extremely difficult to steer much less retain control of. it has happened 3 times since i purchased this truck. the first two times were covered under warranty but now the truck has 38,000 miles on it and the repair is no longer covered. the last time it was repaired the part was supposed to be covered for 12,000 miles and the mileage on the truck was just over that mile marker and the dealer said it would not be covered this time. the latest part replacement is apparently on backorder and we are forced to drive this unsafe vehicle until we can get it repaired once again.
Traveling at highway speeds (over 55 mph) the steering will go into a violent shimmy also known as a 'death wobble' after crossing certain seams in the roadway. i have to brake and reduce speed rapidly to about 45 or 50 mph to regain control. this creates a very dangerous situation due to motorists behind my vehicle having to brake also. remember, this is occurring at highway speeds. this is not a one time occurrence as it started at about 20000 miles. at that time a dealer replaced the steering damper and at about 29000 that part also failed. i am waiting for my local dealer to replace that damper with a 'redesigned' one. i feel this is just a bandaid on a much more serious issue.
