Vehicle shakes violently at highway speeds when it encounters not smooth highway conditions such as small bumps, chatter, or elevation changes at bridges.
Death wobble. happens at many different speeds and different highways. steering wheel shakes violently. truck is stock with stock wheels and tires.
2017 ford f250 supercrew diesel. driving 40mph or faster on highway and run over any type of uneven surface truck shakes and steering wheel vibrates uncontrollably! it first happened when i was hauling my horses and i thought i was going to wreck with trailer in tow! i bought this truck brand new and have never been off roading or anything crazy that should ever make the suspension do that kind of shaking! it was horrific! please issue a recall and fix this problem!
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving various speeds over bumps in the road, the steering wheel shook violently and the vehicle experienced the "death wobble". there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken several times to longmont ford (235 alpine st, longmont, co 80501) where it was diagnosed that sustained oscillation occurred and the drive link, slugs, alignment, steering stabilizer, shocks, and tie rod ends needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: [xxx]. the failure mileage was 12,000. the vin was not available. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
In november of 2018, at 25,000 miles, my truck became temporarily uncontrollable while traveling on a straight and level section of interstate 10. i experienced severe oscillation of front tires at 70 mph. i was on straight and level ground and was able to slow down to 30 mph at which time i regained control. during the incident, i was unable to maintain lane integrity. after stopping, i checked the tire pressure and all tires were at the recommended pressure's. took the vehicle to chapman ford dealer in scottsdale az and the inspection came back "no problems detected". in january 2019, at 28,000 miles i experienced the same problem at 50 mph while traveling on a straight and level paved road. this time i did not regain control until 20 mph. in both of the described instances i was pulling a light utility trailer loaded with a polaris ranger. *note: i do not recall hitting a bumpy section of roadway to initiate the severe oscillation.
I have had multiple occurrences of "death wobble"...... vehicle only has 12,000 miles on it..... have done research. seems like there is a safety bulletin out. ford told me the parts are on backorder for fix.....people online saying even after ford fix still not fixed. i dont feel safe letting anyone else drive this vehicle....or me driving it above 50 mph. so basically if you hit a road joint for a bridge for example (where i have had it happen 3 times so far) it throws the front end into a rythmatic violent shake. you have to slam on your brakes and slow down to about 25mph for it to go away. i am good at recovering from it now..... but i almost smashed into the guy next to me the first time it happened..... it is very unsafe and ford has not been very helpful. please help and make this a more known issue. i have read alot of the same stories online. i had nothing in tow during my occurrences. thank you in advance.....
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. the contact stated that there had been an extensive 'death wobble' upon driving over uneven asphalt. the contact had to maneuver the steering wheel with force to ensure that it was stabilized while the vehicle was in motion. southland ford (801 north st, ashburn, ga 31714, (229) 567-3301) diagnosed the vehicle and replaced some front end parts, including the tire stabilizer, bushings, dampeners, and reset the camber caster. the manufacturer was notified of the death wobble and did not assist. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 33,000.
While driving on a clear dry highway at about 60mph, i hit a small bump and the steering wheel began to shake violently, the truck drifted across two lanes before i could get slowed down to 30mph when the shaking stopped. i pulled off, checked the truck as best i could thinking something had come loose. nothing found, i went to a gas station and verified tire pressure was correct. continued on, the next day at the same spot on the way to work it happened again. this time i took it straight to the dealership. they diagnosed a failed ' steering shock' this is a 2017 f250 with only 25k miles this was terrifying and someone must make ford fixthis permamently.
Three seperate occasions i have experienced a "death wobble" after first occurance returned to ford dealer for repair. parts were exchanged and vehicle returned to me. first repair completed oct 11 2017. next two occurances were week of thanksgiving dealer could not see vehicle for service till 11-30-2017 vehicle stillat dealer as of 12-19-2017 told parts on order till 1-28-2019
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving 70 mph over a bump in the road, the steering wheel and front end of the vehicle started to experience mild shaking. in order to stop the vehicle from shaking, the contact had to decrease the speed from 70 to 30 mph. the contact stated that the same failure occurred multiple times whenever the speed exceeded 60-75 mph. the vehicle was taken to phil long ford (301 s 2nd st, raton, nm 87740) and unknown repairs were performed. a month after taking the vehicle to the dealer, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 17,000. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr *dt*jb
While traveling at highway speeds i hit a bump and my truck went into a very violent shake, took my truck to autonation ford in littleton co, they replaced the steering damper, it had 15,000 miles on it. at 21,000 miles the same thing happened, i again returned to autonation ford and they told me on the service report that i needed to install after market products and they would not do anything else to my truck. i have since been in contact with the dealership where i purchased the truck, spradley ford in pueblo co. they informed me it was a camber and caster issue and any ford dealership knows of the problem and should be able to fix the issue. i have spoken with autonation ford in littleton and summit ford in silverthorne co, both have told me they have not heard of any such issue. today i spoke with 4 wheel parts about my issue, they told me they are back logged with ford trucks with the same issue and it can be resolved with many part replacements at a cost ranging from $25.00 to $700.00, unless the tires need to be replaced due to wear. at this point i feel my truck is unsafe to drive and which direction to take to resolve the issue of the "death wobble"
While traveling down i45 at 70mph, the front end of the truck started to wobble really bad and the steering wheel started to wobble bad also. it was hard to hold on too. i slowed down and got off to the side of the rode , at about 30 mph it quit wobbling and i proceeded on. soon after i was going about 65 mph and it started wobbling again. i slowed down as i did before and it stopped wobbling again around 30mph. i parked when i got home. i went to work the next day and it started wobbling again. every time i drive it, it wobbles now. i have called dealership and will be taking t in 6 days from today. they could not fit me in until then.
While driving about 55 mph on a rural road , i hit a washboard spot in the road . the steering wheel starting oscillating wildly . i almost lost control of the truck as the front end seemed like it was bouncing down the road . i had to slow down to about 20 mph before the truck recovered . fortunately i was on a rural road and had no side by side traffic as that could have been catastrophic.
While driving around 70+ mph and moving over small bumps in the road whether be a bridge transition or small pot hole steering wheel shakes violently only goes away after slowing down to below 60
Very scary death wobble.at speeds from 45 to 65 mph i have taken the truck to ford with no help. the first time they said the tires were bad. which was very strange because they only had about 20,000 miles on them. so i replaced them at the dealer with factory originals. no fix no help from ford
Truck front end and steering wheel shakes violently after hitting a bump going 70 mph
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle shook violently and the steering wheel turned right and left. the contact almost lost control of the vehicle. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to deacon jones ford-lincoln, inc. (919-736-3387, located at 3301 mclain st, goldsboro, nc 27534) where it was stated that the failure was a known occurrence, but there was neither a recall nor a qualified technician to remedy the failure. the technician stated that the vehicle was not manufactured by the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
The trucks steering shakes violently when you drive over uneven, expansion joint, bumps, etc in the road. when driving at highway speeds the shaking is so violent you can swerve into other lanes of traffic and the only thing that makes it stop is slowing down to about 40 mph or under. this has happened at least 6 times in the last month on the highway and i have been very close to hitting other vehicles, thankfully they were able to swerve to avoid me as i have virtually no control of the truck at that point.
Front end shakes violently when driving over bumps on paved roadway while driving above 60 mph. the worst occurences were when towing a 5th wheel camper. i had to hit the brakes hard and get down below 45 mph to gain control. each time it has happened has been on the interstate (i-95, i-40, i-75). this is dangerous anytime and particularly dangerous when in traffic. i contacted two ford service departments and they were familiar with the 'death wobble'. local ford truck shop has had parts on order for couple of weeks and i will put the truck in the shop early next week for the repairs. i am unable to upload it, but i have a couple of videos (mp4 format) that were taken in the cab during a two instances. these show the magnitude of the vibrations. the date of occurence below was one of 3 different days. other dates were 15 and 18 oct 2018.
Traveling at 65mph encountered a bump on a interstate 4 lane highway my vehicle started to shake violently. immediate action on my behalf saved a near accident full application of my brakes stopped this death wobble !
10/19/2018, at 54 mph, on a smooth, 4 lane freeway at 4:30 am, my truck began shaking and vibrating violently as though i was driving on a rolling flat tire. i immediately let off the gas to slow down as quickly as i could without braking; although difficult to steer, i was able to get the truck over to the shoulder of the road to inspect it. i could not determine there was anything wrong with the truck or any evidence i unknowingly ran over something. later that morning, called 3 ford dealerships to see if i could get my truck in for inspection, which all 3 told me this issue is know as the ford death wobble. i was told that my truck couldn't be seen until the following friday. i contacted my local tire shop whom i have done business with all my fleet trucks and trust their experience in suspension, tire, brake and shock services. the manager told me the same thing about the ford death wobble. he said he would be happy to look at the truck and make sure nothing was loose, broken and that the alignment was correct. that all checked out fine. after researching this, i learned that this is common for the super duty trucks and apparently ford is not doing anything to correct it. this is an extremely dangerous situation and i hope that the nhtsa takes this issue seriously and becomes involved in the remedy of this problem.
While passing a slower vehicle , i hit a small bump in the road which caused the steering wheel to shake violently (death shake) almost losing control of truck. i had to move back over into my lane before i should of and pull off onto the narrow shoulder which caused about 6 vehicles behind me to swerve to miss me. after slowing to about 20 mph the shake went away. i continued on driving till i was able to pull off into a safe area to inspect for a cause, but did not see anything loose or abnormal in any steering or suspension components. fortunately i wasn't towing my camper at the time, otherwise i may not have been here to submit this report.
Hit a bump in the road and the front tires began to wobble. has happened several times
While traveling at approximately 40-45 mph, when i hit a bump or series of bumps the front end tends to 'jump' if i'm cornering or will bounce the front end that effects the steering of the truck. at highway speeds (70mph) going straight hit a couple bumps in the road and the trucks front end started violently bouncing to the point i had to slow way down to less than 10mph before it smoothed back out. this is a very scary thing to happen at those speeds. i could have easily lost control and caused a horrible accident.
While driving the vehicle on highways/interstates between 60 mph and 75 mph i will hit a ridge or pot hole on roadway; vehicle will rapidly develop an excessive steering wheel oscillation (aka death wobble). will have to slow down and almost stop before death wobble goes away. vehicle has less than 27000 miles on it. this has occurred at least 10 times. the vehicle is all stock with no aftermarket modificatios and have had all rrquired services performed in a timely manner. the ford dealership where i purchased vehicle has performed ford's tsb 18-2268 on vehicle; this did not resolve the issue. the dealership has received additional procedures from ford motor company and have performed them; this did not resolve the issue. i have escalated the issue with ford motor company. they have assigned a case number to the situation; please contact me for the specific case number.
At certain times after going over a bump in the road, the front end shakes uncontrollably. had the truck back to the dealer twice so far and they replaced the steering dampner both times. still having issues and another appointment has been scheduled to look at this. this is a life threatening issue that could lead to a fatal accident.
Severe/violent shaking at highway speeds with any deviation in road surface (bridges/ transitions/potholes). first documented in 2018 around 20,000 miles. ford dealer replaced steering components in april 2019 with 32470 miles. wobble returned in july of 2019 at 39000 miles and continued to worsen. brought back to dealer 9/25/19 and the reported no issues or repairs needed. brought back to dealer again on 10/15/19 with 42k miles and the tech went for a test drive with me and a 5 minute trip it wobbled twice at highway speeds requiring significant braking to 35mph to avoid losing control of the vehicle. i'm afraid to drive the truck on the highway for fear of death/injury. ford is ordering the same parts that were replaced in april 2019.
On two separate occasions, our ford f-250 started to violently shake in the front end after going onto an overpass on the highway. this is a violent wobble of the front end. it feels like the entire front suspension is going to self destruct. this happened one time at a speed of 65 mph and another time at a speed of 75 mph. in order to get the front end shaking to stop, the vehicle had to be slowed down to approximately 35 mph. during both episodes, the steering wheel was violently shaking and it felt like the front tires were wobbling. the first time this happened, it was so violent that the front windshield cracked. the first episode occurred with approximately 21,000 miles on the vehicle. after that episode, we took the truck into the ford dealership and they replaced some parts in the front suspension and indicated it was fixed. the second episode occurred with about 29,000 miles on the vehicle. we again took the vehicle into the ford dealership and they changed the caster setting on the vehicle to an out of spec condition and told us that the ford regional service rep told them that would fix the problem. after getting the vehicle back from that service visit, there was a vibration in the steering at speeds between 72 mph and 76 mph. the steering wheel would vibrate back and forth at a relatively high speed. the vehicle is at the dealership for a third time to address this newest problem. the vehicle now has right at 36,000 miles on it and is at the end of the warranty mileage. the first instance was approx october 1, 2018 and the second instance was approx march 1, 2019.
My ford f250 has a severe "wobble" when hitting bumps in the road. the truck begins to shake violently and does not stop until slowing to about 35 mph. the first time i was traveling at only 45 mph and after that it happened at greater sppeeds up to 70 mph. at times, i thought i was going to lose control of the truck. it happened between 15-20 on my trip back to texas. i took my truck to ford and they are the ones who described it as a wobble. i have since learned that i am not alone with this defect, i learned this has been happening since at least 2011 and ford will not correct this as a warranty problem even if you're vehicle is under warranty. i was told my front end was out of alignment to which i replied " if it is, it's because of the wobble", and of course the mechanic said that was not possible, but he was never in the truck when it "wobbled". i then was told about another correction, but the repairs would not be covered. so the only way to correct the "wobble" is to add steering/stabilizer shocks to the front end and pay for it out of pocket even though it is a problem that ford knows all about. i contacted ford customer service and they were absolutely no help telling me "after market parts", are not covered under warranty even if that is what it takes to repair the obvious defect of the ford f250. i had no way of knowing that ford was adding parts to the vehicle, rather i thought they were making repairs to the existing vehicle. so, it is obvious ford knows there is a problem and how to correct the problem but they refuse to take of their vehicles or their customer safety. i believe this is a safety issue as it would be easy to lose control of the vehicle. i am asking you to please look into this problem before it turns deadly, and it will turn deadly.
Death wobble truck will shake violently after hitting bump over 65 mph and will not stop until you get slowed to below 50 mph. ford replaced the steering dampener at 34000 miles and its out again at 55000. was told by the dealer that they have 6 trucks sitting in service with the same problem and can not get parts to replace it . i have taken it to an aftermarket four wheel drive service center they replaced drop link ,drag bar and steering dampener. and now i have put on a new set of tires it helped a little put at higher speeds it is still there. this is a serious issue
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving 69 mph over a bump in the road, the vehicle exhibited the "death wobble" from the front suspension. the contact was unable to regain control until the speed was under 40 mph. the contact stated that the previous owner had the vehicle repaired at landmark ford trucks, inc (3401 e clear lake ave, springfield, il 62702, (217) 528-0770); however, the failure recurred. the contact took the vehicle back to landmark ford trucks, inc, but the mechanic was unable to properly diagnose the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: cas-15627787. the approximate failure mileage was 10,100. *dt updated 10/2/18*jb
At 36,000 miles 2017 f250 sd began to exhibit extreme loss of control with steering after traveling over uneven roadway. road bumps caused violent shaking of the steering at speeds in excess of 35 mph. (death wobble). dealer inspected and replaced track bar ball joint and non-functional steering damper...drove 300 miles and wobble is back again. very unsafe condition as malfunctions occur in traffic, no recall or technical service bulletin issued by ford at this time. someone is going to lose their life.
On 4 seperate occasions, while driving at approximately 55-65 mph on a highway, driving straight, the steering wheel began shaking violently causing loss of steering and control of the truck. slowing down to 15-20 mph while applying the brakes got the shaking to stop. the vibration is akin to the 'death wobble'. while i did not crash the truck, if there had been a vehicle in the lane next to me on any of the incidents, an accident would have occurred because the truck veered into the lane next to me. the truck is at the dealer for repair. i was told by the service advisor that this is a common problem. the truck has 20k miles on it currently. the first time it happened, the truck had about 16k miles.
Steering wheel is shaking violently while driving my truck started at 25000 miles.
This problem started at 17,000 miles, hitting a bump at highway speeds of 55-70 mph, experienced violet shaking of steering wheel, the truck has 42,000 miles on it now with no resolve to the problem. has been back to the dealer at least 4 times and still has the problem, i have been lucky that i was able to keep truck on highway without causing an accident.
Front tires wobble extremely hard at certain speed
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. after purchasing the vehicle brand new and driving 3,000 miles, it began experiencing the "death wobble". the vehicle was taken back to kerlin motor, inc. (state road 15, silver lake, in 46982, 260-408-6052) three times. during each visit, the dealer contacted the manufacturer and changed the tie rod and performed a realignment. the dealer currently stated that the front shock absorbers could be the cause of the failure. the repairs were covered under warranty. the contact was concerned of a crash occurring due to the failure. the failure mileage was 6,000.
Severe front end shimmy when hitting a slight bump. repair and replace both upper shims with 1 degree bushing, steering shock, and bar balt joint. all parts on back order indicating this is common occurrence.
I have a 2017 ford f250 that has "death wobble" issues. it becomes uncontrollable if it hits rough pavement on the highway, usually at 70 mph. if the truck begins to shake it is uncontrollable. it is nearly impossible to steer. the only way to regain control is to slow to about 20 mph or stop completely. while decelerating it will get worse that at 70 mph for a short time, and then slowly stop shaking. i have been to the heller ford dealership in el paso, they replaced a steering stabilizer. the truck now has a vibration in the front end, and feels like it is going to start the death wobble again. the service manager said it was because of worn tires. they have 9/32" of tread on the front. they are however damaged from the wobble, ford will not replace the tires. the tears have about 7/32" and are not "cupped" like the front. the truck does this while in motion on all types of pavement usually 55-70mph
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving various speeds over a bump in the road, the steering wheel and the entire front end shook without warning. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to salmon river motors (208-756-4211, located at 1051 s challis st, salmon, id 83467) where the stabilizer was replaced. the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to woody smith ford (888-876-7438, located at 535 s yellowstone hwy, rexburg, id 83440) where the drag link was replaced. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that they were aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
I was pulling a camper down a state highway and hit a place in the road where they repaired a culvert and the steering wheel started shaking violently, i almost lost control before i got slowed down enough to get it to stop. i was only traveling at 55 mph. since then this has happened around 10 times doesn't matter if i'm loaded or not when i hit rough patches in road or bridge transition. it about takes steering wheel out of my had it's shaking so bad, took to deelership and they said they fixed it but it continues to do it and they say they can't get it to happen with them so they really can't do nothing about it. it's hit or miss when it does it but when it happens you can't control it it's like the wheel is shaking so hard it's locked and won't let you steer the truck to keep it from running off into ditch. the truck only has 24600 miles but it's been doing it since around 7000 miles. will continue to take it to them till it gets fixed before i have a wreck.
Violent death wobble when hitting a bump at speeds over 50 mph. vehicle becomes very unstable and shakes violently. must reduce speed immediately to under 20 mph to regain control. have taken to dealer and they cannot fix the problem. investigating lemon law. incredibley unsafe problem. have seen numerous reports of this condition and still no fix/recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle encountered a rough surface on the roadway, the steering shook without warning. the vehicle was taken to (jones-west ford dealer, located at 3600 kietzke ln, reno, nv 89502), where the technician diagnosed and replaced the steering damper and the track bar bushing. the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to the dick campagni capital ford dealer, located at 3660 s. carson st, carson city, nv 89701), where a dry park inspection was performed and the technician replaced track bar bushing and install both drag links, a new steering damper and performed an alignment. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. no additional assistance was provided. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 17,000. *bf consumer stated new dampner has been replaced, 3rd time it has been replaced.*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving 75 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle as it experienced the death wobble and shook violently. also, the vehicle accelerated on its own. the contact and his wife had no control as the vehicle sped through three lanes. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not towed. the vehicle was taken to jim click ford (6244 e 22nd st, tucson, az 85711, (877) 777-9263) where it was diagnosed that a steering damper needed to be installed. the vehicle was repaired. while the contact and his family were taking a road trip, the repair failed within hours. the vehicle accelerated in traffic and experienced the death wobble. the vehicle was repaired three times. the vehicle needed a shim installed because the original shim detached from the vehicle's body. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 3,000.
Driving at highway speed between 60-70 or 80 mph, the truck develops violent steering wheel shake, back and forth, whole truck vibrates, tires seem to be shaking from one side to the other ( death wobble). this happens when the truck goes over an uneven road, bump, hole or defect in the road. happens without warning, with or without towing but happens more frequently when towing travel trailer. shaking will not stop until truck is brought to almost a complete stop. very scary
Death wobble when you hit a bump at 45 mph + going to get someone killed new truck happens all the time dealer does nothing
While driving at normal highway speeds on an interstate highway, i hit a minor bump in the road and the vehicle started vibrating radically. the steering wheel was extremely hard to control from the front end bouncing. i had to brake rapidly and pull to shoulder under pretty crowded traffic conditions and it didn't stop until almost completely stopped. it did this numerous times on a out of town trip and i took it to my dealer immediately on my return. the date entered is the first time this occurred. it has happened numerous times since then & has been back to dealer 3 times for this. it is at the dealer now.
I've had to had my suspension and steering components replaced 3 times due to severe steering shake when driving in a highway situation. the shaking is so bad that at times i've come very close to causing a bad accident.
I have a 2017 f250 4x4. when driving at speeds of 45mph or faster the frontend will start to shake uncontrollable when i hit any kind of bump in the road. the vehicle has less than 14,000 miles on it. this a major safety concern.
I purchased my 2017 ford f 250 super duty 4x4 in september of 2017. i first noticed an issue with the suspension when hitting a bump in the road at 60 mph and almost lost control of the truck. luckily i was able to slow down and regain control. i begin to do some research and learn of the death wobble that ford is aware of, i will now take my vehicle in to have the suspension checked. secondly, i have been having issue's with my sync3 system, bluetooth, climate control, easy entry and exit for the drivers seat and the apple car play feature. after taking my vehicle to the shop, i was told the sync3 system, a couple modules and the chassis harness was replaced to correct the issue's. i have taken my truck to ford three time for the sync3 malfunction and was told not to use the bluetooth streaming with apple products, which doesn't make sense if it's suppose to work. i have contact ford for a buy back and the answer of course was "no" i have to take it to the shop a few more times for the same repair and it has already been in the shop more for the sync3 issue than any other issue's. hopefully ford figures out there issue's and offer greater customer support for a not so cheap vehicle.
