While driving to work today, and making a right hand turn, my vehicle completely shut off. that is, the engine died, the power steering died, and the brakes died while the truck came to a complete stop in the middle of the lane. let me reiterate - the truck completely died in the middle of the road and there was a complete loss of control over the vehicle. had there been another vehicle, object, or person in front of me, i would have likely collided with them (thankfully the road was empty) research has lead me to find that this is a known issue with ford and the f150 series from years 2010 to approximately 2014. fuse number 27 in the engine fuse box is undersized from the factory and melts due to the inability to handle the amperage. i found mine melted after today as well. ford has "addressed" this issue with a tsb (ford tsb-15-0137 see attached) which it charges customers for to replace the fuse and wiring for the fuse with a new, up sized fuse and wires. they do not cover this free of charge unless your truck is under warranty. as this is a glaring safety issue that numerous people have reported, i ask that the nhtsa investigate this and have ford initiate a recall on the affected vehicles, and make the repair free of charge to customers. this issue is a manufacturing flaw and one that has the ability to cause loss of life and property due to failure to control the vehicle. some forums where people have reported the same issue: http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f39/engine-cut-off-low-oil-pressure-warning-11894/index16.html http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f39/ford-raptor-fuel-pump-fuse-issue-45129/index37.html https://www.f150forum.com/f12/engine-shots-off-while-driving-402848/ http://www.f150ecoboost.net/forum/31-f150-ecoboost-problems/26113-engine-randomly-died-while-driving.html
While driving 75mph vehicle shifted from 6th to 3rd on the highway. check engine light came on. after putting into park and turning off truck and restarting it the check engine light was off and vehicle drove fine for about another week. this time, while driving the vehicle shifted from 6th to 4th and check engine light came on. i was able to pull the code since turning the truck on and off didnt reset anything. the code was p0720 output speed sensor "leadframe". odometer, mph, speed, trip, fuel usage did not work. rpms worked and the gear i was in worked.
My truck downshifts without cause, sometimes to 1st gear, and on one occasion my wheels skidded (which was witnessed by my neighbor who was walking his dog and was startled by the skid). the speedometer goes to zero even while moving - i have video from my cell phone of this happening while going approximately 75 mph on the freeway. when this happens all other gauges go to dashes, including the mileage, mpg, etc. the transmission will slip into 2nd and 5th gears and will not go to any other gears. it sometimes remains in 3rd gear even at a dead stop. turning the truck completely off sometimes "resets" things, but only temporarily. i have contacted a dealer about this and they looked up my vin and told me there are no recalls for my truck year - even though the same types of things were occurring with 2011-12 f150's, and those are the subject of a recall. this is a safety issue: it happens without warning, sometimes on the freeway traveling at high speeds, sometimes while sitting at a stop light and it shifts to 3rd gear and hardly will get going. i called ford customer service and explained everything and they said they would report to nhtsa but since it is out of warranty and there is no recall, i would most likely be responsible for the cost of repair. i pointed out a letter sent by nhtsa to ford on january 18, 2018 addressing issues with my truck model and year, but that did not change anything in the representative's mind. i believe there needs to be consumer protection on this, both from a safety and financial aspect, by nhtsa. i have video of what happened on the freeway with the truck downshifting to 5th gear and remaining there, and when traffic slowed the truck downshifted to 2nd gear and would not shift to any other gear. i had to pull off the freeway with hazard lights flashing and turn off the truck and restart it to try to "reset" things.
Transmission randomly shifts, sometimes into 1st gear even at 40 mph. occasionally, speedometer, gas gauge, gear indicator all die and a yellow wrench appears on the display. my research indicates it may be the transmission lead frame.
I was driving down the on ramp to merge with traffic and my truck shifted to 1st gear locking up the back tires which caused me to almost loose control and get rear ended by the person behind me. cause of problem found at ford dealer was faulty molded lead frame.
Unexpected vehicle downshift. unexpectedly downshifts while driving highway speeds. speedometer will waiver erratically or bottom out down to zero. gear indicator will drop to 1st, go back to 5th, and waiver anywhere in between. vehicle comes to sudden drop in speed which barks the tires and throws the driver forward.
While driving 45 or 50 miles per hour the transmission downshifted from 6th gear to 1st causing the wheels to lock up and putting me into a skid. the rear of the truck fishtailed to the right hitting a curb. if a car was parked there or a pedestrian was walking, things could have been much worse!
Transmission suddenly downshifts, causing brake squealing and rapid speed reduction, extremely dangerous as has occurred on highway. also sometimes will put in drive and says is in 5th gear but won't move, or other times will not shift out of first gear. very dangerous issue! has occurred numerous times over past month but doesn't generate a code or warning lights.
Transmission downshifts without notice from 6th gear to 1st gear while traveling at high speeds resulting in rear tires locking up. periodically shifts from park directly to 5th gear and gear selection cannot be overridden by the driver unless the vehicle is turned off and restarted.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted and then shifted back to a drivable gear after two seconds. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to preferred ford (1401 s beacon blvd, grand haven, mi 49417, (616) 842-0600) where the contact was informed that the vin was not included in any recalls. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 79,000. *tt the consumer stated the transmission shifted into first gear and sticks while driving. *js
The transmission will shift out of gear, into a higher gear, or into a lower gear without warning. the speedometer goes to zero and the rpms will race to 5000 or 6000. the worst instance of this happened at 60 mph when it all of a sudden shifted into first gear causing the rear tires to squeal, the engine to rev, and also loose control of the vehicle. the error code of a "wrench" popped up on the dashboard. in my research, the 2011 and 2012 f150s have already been recalled but this needs to include the 2013 as well. the repair is the "lead frame" in the transmission at a cost of over $1,000. this is a very serious safety issue.
On april 14, 2018 i was driving my 2013 f-150 on the highway approximately 70mph in the rain when the back wheels suddenly locked up and i abruptly began stopping and i lost control, fishtailing to the left and right (almost to a spin), barely missing vehicles around me and the wall to the left. the car behind me somehow veered around and missed me too. as this was happening the truck was making a loud noise as it automatically slowed down. i somehow made it to the side of the road where i parked and shut the truck off and tried to settle down and gain my composure (...it was scary, i thought i was going to die from this incident!). i restarted the truck and slowly began drive. it seemed to drive ok so i decided to take the truck to the dealer for service. as i was driving cautiously, well below the speed limit on a 40mph road the engine then shut down and i could see a screen appear with "low oil pressure". i glided to a parking lot and had my truck towed to the dealer where i purchased the truck (suburban ford of waterford michigan). the dealer said there was a knock in the engine and said it threw a rod. they said the engine failure was the result of the wheels locking up. i researched and found the exact same issue on 2013 f-150's with the transmission automatically downshifting to a low gear causing the rear wheels to lock up. the dealer said they were aware of this and said there is a recall for this on 2011 and 2012 f-150's for this but no recall presently active on the 2013 f-150. i purchased a full warranty for the truck when new but the truck is just out of warranty at 110k miles. the dealer said they could provide a refurbished engine for $10,000. i've been going back and forth with ford and the dealer at this point. this is a very dangerous life threatening issue. see: http://autoweek.com/article/recalls/fords-downshifting-recall-may-expand
Speed sensor. when driving you could be stopped or moving at a high rate of speed for example i was going 50mph when the truck shifted into first causing the truck to come almost to a complete stop almost causing an accident. at other times wheb you start the truck it will shift from 1st gear to 5th gear and the wrench indicator will appear on dash while everything else turns to dashes (mileage etc). the speedometer will then show zero even while still moving.
Transmission malfunction, will not engage when vehicle is stopped. seems like it is stuck in 5th gear. odo reads ------, airbag and seat belt light comes on. speedometer goes to zero. when i turn engine off and back on, it operates normal for a few miles. was almost t-boned by semi this morning because the transmission would not engage when i pulled into intersection.
5 plus instances of noticeable gear shift shuddering during both up and downshifting at random times while at cruising speeds above 25+ mph. a few other instances the speedometer was observed moving rapidly and erratically while on a highway speeds along with a transmission shudder. more recently the transmission performed a significant hard down shift i never experienced before and was not expecting. all issues were observed beginning january 2018. truck brought to dealer 4/10/2018, courtesy ford breaux bridge, la.
Vehicle shifts gears erratically. going from 6th gear to 1st at 70 mph
While driving, the truck downshift to 1st gear randomly. the service light came on and the truck stayed in 1st gear. all of the gauges died and i was forced to pull over.. i restarted the truck and it ran normal. the next day i was driving on the cruise control when the truck downshifted to 5th and all the gauges died. later that day, it went into 3rd gear and would not shift. i am now having to pay 900$ to fix something tbat is already recalled for 2012 but not my 2013. same transmissions and same issue.
135,987 mi. 2013 ford f 150 econoboost powersteering assit went out! notice a traction fault couple days ago and it went away after i shut off my truck. the steering never did this and it happened in a parking lot making a sharp left turn! and then while trying to drive out of the parking lot turning out to the intersection no power steering???? just last year i had to replace my throttle body because my truck would go limp while driving! why isn't there a recal on the steering for this year?
My transmission has been acting erratically for the past 30 days. at first the vehicle would lose acceleration and then the rpms would jump 2000, after a couple seconds i would hear a loud thump as the transmission reengaged; the speedometer also registered 0 a couple times when this happened. other times the transmission would refuse to leave first gear or i would lose power while in first gear for approximately 10 seconds. the worst issue happened when i was driving the vehicle at approximately 35 mph when the transmission shifted into 1st gear and locked up my rear tires! thankfully i didn't get rear ended, or worse, been driving on the highway; there is no way i could have controlled the vehicle at high speeds and could have seriously injured myself or other drivers. unfortunately these transmission issues are intermittent and do not generate error codes. i've been to two ford dealers, the first could not replicate the issue and the second was able to determine the issue is caused by a faulty electronic control assembly in the transmission; they had to search service bulletins in order to figure out what is happening. while this seems to be a common complaint with ford owners, 2013 vehicles are not included in the recall and they want to charge me $1412.75 to fix the issue. in addition, this is a major safety issue.
Vehicle downshifted (at 65mph on hwy) from 6th to 3rd to 1st gear all by itself.
Transmission shifts erratically. sometimes it does not shift down from 5th gear and bogs down from a standing start (onviously) and i have to stop and put in park to shift again and sometimes that does not work. on a couple of occasions it shifted down to first on it's own and it felt like someone rear ended the vehicle the jolt was so hard. service dept says they cannot do anything because it is not recalled and they cannot duplicate it (dangerously happens at random!). i do not want to drive my family in this dangerous truck!
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle independently downshifted gears while driving various speeds. the failure occurred without warning. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but no failure was detected. sanderson ford (6400 n 51st ave, glendale, az 85301) was contacted and the contact was informed that the speed sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 73,170.
Without warning my rear wheels & drivetrain locked up while driving. my vehicle suddenly lost control and i had to drive into the grassy shoulder at around 35 mph to avoid being in traffic. as the problem was occuring, the speedometer went to 0 mph and the airbag light illuminated. the vehicle mileage in the cluster showed all dashes. the transmission felt like it was disconnected from the engine, and transmission was stuck in 5th gear at low vehicle speeds. i cycled the ignition, and truck drove normally after that. this is an intermittent problem and very dangerous to drive with as vehicle will lose power and transmission can shift to 1st gear at high vehicle speeds. my vehicle has the 6r80 faulty transmission with the same type of 6r80 molded lead frame defect problem reported in previous f150 model years. upon contacting dealership they seemed like they never heard of the issue before. ford should issue a recall for all vehicles with p0722 output shaft speed sensor diagnostic trouble codes. a simple electrical issue on a $100 part should not cause this type of dangerous reaction. see ford tsb 13-4-9 and 13-2-3 and recall #16v248000 that should apply to all 2013 f-150's too.
Several times my transmission shifted from 6th gear to first gear while i was driving in traffic approximately 35-45 mph. this caused my rear tires to lock up and was almost ran over by vehicles behind me. once it happened while pulling my utv trailer on the freeway at 65 mph. i was in the right lane because of this happening before, and as soon as it happened i shifted into neutral and turned my emergency flashers on and pulled off to the side.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle suddenly downshifted to second gear and skidded on the wet pavement. the rear wheels locked, the speedometer went to zero, and the driver's air bag warning indicator illuminated. when the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road, shut off, and restarted it, the vehicle operated normally. the contact stated that the failure occurred two other times. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 34,000.
I was driving down the interstate and my truck just downshifted into 1st out of no where causing my back tires to lock up and me to lose control of my vehicle. i brought it to the dealership and they said it was an internal part failure dealing with an output sensor on the lead frame. it looks like there is a recall for this exact problem on 2011-12s but mine is a 2013 bought in 2012, and is still under 50,000, car is still at the dealership being repaired i do not have the paperwork yet.
On 3/12/18 at approximately 7:20am, without warning my rear wheels & drivetrain locked up while on an icy/frost covered bridge at i96 and newburg rd in livonia. my vehicle suddenly lost control as i my steering wheel and front wheels were about to make a left turn manunever. my vehicle spun out of control at around 10 mph and my vehicle hit the bridge curbing. luckily i didn't hit another vehicle at that intersection as it came to a stop. i did notice that me vehicle lost it speedometer which trigger the bad event. my vehicle has the 6r80 faulty transmission with the same type of 6r80 lead frame defect problem reported in previous f150 model years.
I was driving at 60 mph and the truck suddenly downshift twice. the second downshift revved the engine very high causing a quick jerk at the fairly high speed. this occurred at approximately 6000 ft on a two lane straight mountain road. had this occurred a few days earlier when driving on snow and ice, i would have surely lost control and collided head on with the large boulders or huge pine trees. this could have been deadly.
While traveling approx. 30 mph transmission shifts suddenly into 1st or shifts suddenly into 5th/ dash info disappears/ orange wrench displayed. suspect bulkhead connector.
The 2013 f150 transmission downshifts often and randomly while the vehicle is operating at higher speeds (45 mph +) on the highway and on city streets. typically the vehicle is movng straight and not turning. the downshift is typically from 6th gear to 3rd gear and more often from 5th gear to 2nd gear. in the latter instance, the rear wheels skid when the pavement is wet. the transmission moves back into the appropriate gear after a couple of seconds. we have been working with ford to solve this problem for at least two years. ford has now given up. ford has replaced the transmission valve body and a communication cable that connects the engine control module to the transmission. nothing has worked and the f150 continues to downshift. i believe that this is very unsafe and i am worried when my wife drives the truck (often no option) should the rear wheels lock up and send the vehicle into an uncontrollable spin.
Vehicle will randomly shift into random gear while driving at various speeds. speedometer will drop to 0 and quit functioning and airbag indicator will come on. you have to turn off engine and restart vehicle. this started the day after i bought it used from a ford dealer. it has occured at 5 times in the last week. these are the same symptoms as recall for 2012 f-150's listed in nhtsa campaign #16v248000. my vehicle was manufactured in same plant that was listed in the recall. recall should be expanded to include the 2013 and any others that have this equipment installed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that the speedometer failed to function, there was a sudden loss of power, and the vehicle inadvertently downshifted. the dealer (grand ledge ford, 6080 e saginaw hwy, grand ledge, mi 48837, 517- 627-8100) stated that the transmission lead frame needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified and suggested that the vehicle be diagnosed and repaired by a dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
Vehicle will abruptly downshift to 1st gear at highway speeds of 65 mph causing rear tires to lock up and skid. dtc codes p0720 and p0722 indicate faulty transmission sensor. extremely unsafe!
The transmission will stay in 3rd or 5th gear sometimes at a stop. this causes a power loss and no acceleration. the transmission will also "hunt for a gear a low speeds between 1st and 2nd gears. an orange wrench will flash in the info center on the dash when this is happening intermittently. the transmission also downshifted from 6th gear to 1st gear while the cruise control was set at 75 mph. this caused the truck to go into an uncontrolled skid, luckily it did not cause an accident. i cycled the ignition and drove slowly away without incident. the vehicle is currently at the ford dealership where it was purchased. that dealership acts like they have never heard of the 200,000 plus ford vehicles that were recalled from 2011-2012 for these exact same symptoms. my 2013 f-150 missed that recall by just a few months. the ford motor company needs to address these problems before someone gets killed.
Transmission in the truck started shuddering while driving several times. also lost power when pulling into traffic. wrench light came on dash and all gauges zeroed out. took to vehicle to dealer and they advised was a po722 trans lead frame issue. the same issue ford has had with 2011 and 2012 trucks. paid $800 to have it fixed while owners of 2011 and 2012 fords are having their same issue fixed for free.
Dining acceleration the truck would sputter in higher rpm then just recently i would be doing 70 mph down the highway and i would get a service light with power reduction which in turn would require me to pull over shut the truck off restart it and try again. i would get back up to speed and it would repeat. each time only getting about a mile up the road and it would repeat. took the truck into the dealer as it was still in warranty the first time and they ignored the p2112 code and replaced a totally different sensor.
In february 2018 my 2013 ford f-150 while driving at approximately 50 to 60 mph the truck would without warning slam into first gear and causing the rear tires to skid for a split second. this truck is the vehicle that my wife uses on a daily basis to commute and to run our kids back and forth from school and sporting events so to me it was very unpredictable and extremely dangerous situation to be put in without warning this is you happened.this issue happened several times over a period of about 2 to 3 weeks and started to occur more frequently. we took it to the service department at ken garff ford in american fork utah where we originally purchase the vehicle they looked it over and recommended changing out the entire transmission i got online did some research read through several different forms and found out that this is something that was happening to the 2011/2012 f-150s so i knew that it wasn't a full transmission issue that something else was going on so i took it to larry miller ford in provo utah described what the problem was they sounded to be more confident and sounded like they had dealt with the same issue on other f150s. they did their tests and did say that it was the molded lead frame was issue and that that it needed to be changed out and gave me a quote to get it fixed. i agreed to get the work done. the repairs were done to the transmission and it has been working flawlessly ever since. in march 2019 we received the letter stating the safety recall for our exact situation. nhtsa 19v- 075. called ford motor company trying to get a refund and they refused saying it's only a software update that doesn't even exist yet. so that makes no since why they won't reimburse us for the issue that was fixed by their service department.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. on several occasions, while driving various speeds, the vehicle downshifted and stalled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to nielson ford (375 nj-23, sussex, nj 07461, (973) 702-8000) multiple times, but no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired and continued to downshift and stalled. the vehicle was taken back to nielson ford where it was diagnosed that the lead frame assembly and sleeves needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and confirmed that there were no recalls associated with the vin. the contact was advised to contact nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000. *tt *tr
The vehicle will unexpectedly shift into 1st gear no matter what speed you are at. i had it shift from 5th to 1st at 55 mph and lock up the rear wheels. i immediately pulled off the road and had it towed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving between 30-40 mph, the vehicle downshifted into first gear without warning. the contact pulled the vehicle off the road, turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle started to operate as intended. the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was taken to mooresville ford (located at 151 e plaza dr, mooresville, nc 28115, (704) 664-1300) to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the lead frame harness needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 62,930.
Transmission shifts to 1st gear, locks break for a split second, speedometer goes to zero while in motion. happens on both highway and city street. read up on it and seems like it could be the molded leadframe but not positive. happens often, about every other week
Faulty lead frame in transmission causing abrupt down shifts from 6th to 1st at high speeds as well as getting stuck in any one particular gear for prolonged periods of time at all travel speeds. i have video footage of the transmission stuck in 5th gear at 0 mph. repair bills totaling $552.95 attached. note mileage is 65289.
My truck has 58,000 miles on it. about 6 months ago it periodically began having issues losing power and shifting erratically. initially, i pulled over and cut the truck off and restarted it. this solved the problem temporarily. recently it began to do it more and more frequently. i took it to my local mechanic and he ran a diagnostic on it. it came back as a problem with the "lead frame module" in the transmission. he also said i missed out on a recall of this problem by 2 months. (the recall on this issue was through april of 2013 and my truck was manufactured in june of 2013.) he suggested i take it to my local ford dealer in parsons tn. i did this and once again had the same problem diagnosed for another $90 fee. i was quoted approximately $600 to have this problem corrected. i made the earliest appointment they had to have this repaired, which was a week later. my appointment would have been today, 8/23/2018, but they called me yesterday saying they wouldn't be able to get me in until next week. i went ahead and rescheduled and continued to drive my truck. today i was driving it and without warning, it suddenly downshifted and my rear wheels locked up. i luckily didn't wreck but came very close. i came home and began researching the lead frame issue and saw many people had this same thing happen. i was never told by the dealership my truck wasn't safe to drive and this might happen. i really like my truck but now i am very disappointed with ford in general. i searched extensively to find a truck with no mechanical issues and now find out that not only do i have a " major" issue, but it missed out on a being corrected for free by 2 months. if i am going to have to pay to have a problem fixed that is an admitted defect, i will never again own another ford!
And start up the truck shifts from 1st to 5th gear and back down and all gears in between shifting is erratic and dangerous problem goes away after about 5 stops and restarts wrench on dash illuminates also check engine light
We found out recall after accident last year - when turning - automatic transmission downshifted locked, vehicle skid and caused accident. was declared a total loss by insurance, we told them was not our fault. we had to pay deductible and out of pocke to try to replace vehicle. now same vehicle is also under same recall.
'erractic shifting' three times i was driving at 50 to 60 miles per hour and suddenly the erratic shifting (truck down shift with any warning) and the rear tires locked up immediately. (when this happens the speedometer and the rpm is erractic too) it is too dangerous if another car would have come near me would have crashed. these times i had time to put the emergency lights. turn off the truck and turn it on again, (somethimes you have to do it several times to make the truck work again) and another problem is somethimes the gear not engage, the engine revs but it runs almost nothing) don't feel safe driving this truck.
Transmission is shifting erratically. dropping several gears for no reason. gas mileage has been slowly degrading over the last year. i believe this is because the transmission is over revving before shifting gears. the transmission fluid often smells burnt.
A sudden downshift occurred while driving my 2013 ford f150 on a four-lane highway at approximately 60 mph january 31,2018. it happened twice that day, and i immediately took it to my local ford dealer. they said i shouldn't drive it until it was fixed. they still have it as of today, 2/7/2018. my description of what happened exactly matches the description in your documents published 12/25/2017(?). the description reads: "...automatic transmission slipping unexpectedly into first gear, causing the vehicle to slow down suddenly without warning."."the unexpected downshift can also lock up the rear tires, or cause them to skid." all of this happened including the rear wheels locking up, causing a momentary loss of control when it happened. this condition in 2011 and 2012 f-150s resulted in a recall. it is my understanding that you are considering a recall of 2013 f-150s based on more recent complaints. this is a frightening event and should be looked at.
I have had several occasions where the vehicle appeared to slip into a lower gear. at low to normal speed, this caused wheel spin and tire screeching. in addition, the transmission seemed sluggish upon the occurrence and resisted a response from the accelerator. these occurrences all happened in city street driving at low to moderate speeds while the vehicle was in motion
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that there was an internal failure with a connector in the transmission assembly. the vehicle intermittently shifted from sixth gear to first gear and, at times, failed to accelerate. the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the connector(s) needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
