Upon acceleration, generally from a stop, the vehicle will, thud, lose power and cease to accelerate despite pedal being pushed. it also tends to be accompanied by the speedometer jumping. no warnings or messages are displayed in the vehicle. after pressing the pedal several times and nearly rolling to a stop, control over acceleration will eventually resume. the loss of control over acceleration causes a safety risk, especially when pulling out into traffic. this issue does not occur consistently, but was happening with some regularity approximately 1 month ago as well.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted into third gear and then to first gear as the engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated had to depress the brake pedal and shift into neutral to control the vehicle as the vehicle was able to coast to the side of the roadway. after turning off and restarting the vehicle after a few minutes, it was able to drive normally. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to john amato ford (1015 main st, mukwonago, wi 53149, (800) 606-3085) where it was diagnosed with a faulty connector wire harness with diagnostic failure codes: al3z, 7g276, and d. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. the approximate failure mileage was 82,500. *tt
Transmission down shifts erratically and sometimes will not engage while downshifting. trying to shift manually while vehicle is moving will not fix the issue. twice this has happened while entering traffic but both times i was able to pull over, turn the truck off, put the transmission in the park position and restart the truck, fixing the problem. vehicle is in the shop today for an $800 repair that is not covered by warranty and was told that ford has issued a bulletin for this but will not assume the cost of the repair.
While driving the vehicle loses power can hardly accelerate & speedometer goes to zero the odometer & trip meter read dashes no digits wrench is displayed.i pull over when safe put it in park & restart it is fine until next time the dealer checked & found no codes they drove it 192 miles & could not duplicate problem. this keeps happening it is very unsafe
In the last couple of weeks the transmission is shifting erratically, last week it shifted from 1st to 5th, truck went limp had to stop in the middle of the road due to loss of power shift into neutral and go back to d. today while driving on the highway the tranmission shifted down to 1st gear causing the truck to skid due to the sudden downshift while i was at around 50mph. mind you i was just getting on the highway when this happened needless to say it was scary. i had pull into the shoulder to regroup myself, turn the vehicle off and then get on the road again.
Truck has leaking radiator hoses. went to local ford dealership for replacement parts. was told that i am number 70 in line for those parts. radiator fluid always low, constantly refilling it. this is dangerous due to the amount of fluid that leaks out on a daily basis. very nervous about driving truck, fear that it may breakdown on me and leave me stranded on side of road. concerned about the backlog and waiting so long for parts. is this a problem with all f150 radiator hoses, and if so shouldn't ford issue a recall and fix the problem. i am worried t4hat i am going to breakdown on the side of a road late at night in 0' weather and try to find a town truck. i only have one vehicle and not able to rent a car for several weeks while my garage waits for the parts.
On several occasions within the last month, the transmission suddenly, without any warning, shifted into first gear while driving normally, with transmission in d. i estimate that driving speeds during these occurrences varied between 10 and 35 mph. during a couple of occurrences, the gear selection indicator could be seen flashing quickly between several of the lower gears. the date entered below was the date of the most recent occurrence. i have made an appointment with the service department of a local ford dealer for monday, jan 22, 2018.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 60 mph, the transmission malfunctioned. the contact stated that the vehicle switched from sixth gear to first gear at once, which caused the contact to temporarily lose control of the vehicle. the contact was able to regain control of the vehicle. occasionally, while the vehicle was stationary, it would not accelerate forward. crown ford in fayetteville, north carolina was made aware of the failure. the manufacturer stated that there was no recalls on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 37,000.
Truck would downshift intermittently, truck would lock up, dashboard go dark, no power to pedal, hard downshifts...would do it under all circumstances
When truck slows down it slips in to like a neutral position and rpm's rev up.
While driving at 45 miles an hour on 4th gear my truck unexpectedly shifted into first gear, causing me to lose full control of my vehicle
Takata recall i was going down the highway in cruz controle an my truck went from 55 mph to 0 mph my transmission down shifted from 6th gear to 1st gear locked up my rear wheels for a few seconds. during take off from a stop it will jump from first gear to fifth gear barelly going after take off.
The truck unexpectedly down shifts into first gear without warning.
Transmission shifted erratically into first gear at speed while pulling into busy traffic on highway 280, stalling and revving rpms, causing me to swerve into the turn lane to avoid oncoming traffic. local ford dealership (earnest mccarty) is replacing the control module that was already recalled in 2016 on 2011-2012 f-150s (approximate cost $700).
2013-2014 era f-150 with stock 5.0l v8. only 47,000 miles. still under factory ford powertrain warranty. vehicle exhibits the common oem coolant system defect regarding the "y" or "t" connector and radiator hose connections. system excessively leaks coolant. defect causes leakage of coolant when engine is operating or when sitting/cooling down. loss of coolant may irreparably damage or destroy engine if not repaired. this may present a safety hazard if vehicle is in motion at time of failure. defect is noted on numerous ford truck forums. some of the oem parts necessary to repair/replace the defected items are not available from ford at this time. per ford dealership, these unavailable parts are on backorder from ford for several weeks, approximately 4-5 weeks. vehicle is not currently being driven due to defect, to prevent irreparable damage to the engine, for safety concerns, and oem parts are not available from ford at this time to repair the vehicle. ford has not agreed to pay to repair the truck at this time.
When attempting to pull into traffic from stopped position, automatic transmission begins forward motion in 5th gear and will not change from 5th gear. as accelerator is pressed rpms go up but car barely moves. once truck is turned off and back on transmission is back in 1st gear, but this isn't always an option when cars are approaching rapidly from behind.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 70 mph, the gear shifter independently shifted from sixth to first gear without warning. the vehicle spun around in a circle more than twice in another direction. the contact had to maneuver the vehicle back around in the correct direction. stowe ford (104 e crockett st, gordon, tx 76453, (254) 693-5323) was notified. the manufacturer was notified and indicated that this was a known issue, but a recall had not been issued. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
Transmission shifting issues
Just under 60k miles and truck jumps gear at random from 1st to 5th while coming to a stop or while at a stop and vice vera while accelerating through 4th-5th gears the truck will drop into 1st gear resulting in a temporary loss of control. had it happen to me 6 times over several weeks until the dealership was able to diagnose and obtain the molded lead frame to replace. twice while on a city street at a stop sign making an uphill turn, several times while attempting to exit a parking lot. ford has acknowledged this problem by issuing a recall for 2011-2012 f150s and issuing a tsb for 2013s but will not include 2013s as part of the recall. these recalls include # 16n02 and #12c23. this issue was an expense of nearly $500 to me, fortunately it did not cause an accident and cost a lot more. ford's response to me was to keep my receipts in case thy add 2013s to the recall list i may then be reimbursed. unsafe and unfortunate!
While driving on the highway, the rear axel broke at the weld. we were able to get off the highway safely and to a brake maters. we were told that this should not have happened and that it was a defect in the welding. we had ford tow it to bell ford in phoenix and contacted ford corporate to request an investigation. ford ignored our claim and closed it out, without even doing an investigation. the service dept at bell ford provided horrible customer service and did nothing to assist us with our claim either. we had the vehicle towed elsewhere to be fixed, as we could not afford the $2,700.00 bell ford wanted to charge us.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving various speeds under 60 mph, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road, turn off the vehicle, and upon restarting it several minutes later, the vehicle operated correctly. the contact stated that the failure occurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to (walker ford 102 orchard park rd, hurricane, wv 25526, (304) 397-5101) where diagnostic testing was performed, but no failure codes were found. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the contact referenced nhtsa action number: rq17010 (power train). the failure mileage was 87,000.
Erratic transmission shifting 5th gear to 1st gear while at highway speeds! shifted to neutral to get to emergency shoulder. placed truck in park, checked transmission fluid, no issues. restarted truck went to pull forward truck went 1st to 5th gear no power to wheels rpm elevated to 3500-4000, put truck in park turned off, left off for period of time 5-10 minutes restarted issue didn't present! 5-6 miles travel and happened again.

Traveling at various speeds on highway. the orange wrench waring lights came on, speedometer went to zero, mileage indicator went out , gas dte indicator quit working, speed reduced. switched vehicle off after stopping, switched back on everything reset - vehicle ran fine until the next time, same thing reoccurred. this has happened several times. took it to dewitts automotive repair, windsor, va. dianostic report indicates wiring harness and module sensor for powertrain needs replacing. must be replaced by ford repair shop.
My 2013 f150 ecoboost when driving down the highway has downshifted from 4th into 1st gear on one occasion. and on three other occasions i have been driving down highway between 60-75 mph and truck would downshift on it's own from 6th gear to 3rd gear. after this would happen it would not shift lower than third gear unless pulled off side of road and shut truck off for few minutes and also would not go above fifth gear. ford dealer says was common problem on 2011 and 2012 models but seems to carry into 2013-2014 models from what they been seeing. no recall on 2013-2014 models though so i had to pay big money to fix problem that ford knows about and would like reimbursed if this becomes a recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly downshifted from sixth to first gear and the wheels locked up. the failures caused the vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic. the contact shifted into neutral and coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, where it was turned off and restarted. the failure occurred more than once since the contact owned the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer (lance cunningham ford, 4101 clinton hwy, knoxville, tn 37912, (866) 591-3943) for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer issued a recall for the 2010-2012 models, but not for the 2013. the vin was not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the service warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to ted britt ford (11165 fairfax blvd, fairfax, va 22030) where it was diagnosed that the lead frame needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,500.
My vehicle has approximately 86,000 miles. while accelerating truck shifts from 1st to 5th gear. i stopped the truck and turned the key off and back on, the truck ran fine after that. problem accelerated to the point of the last incident, when while traveling at 65 mph the truck downshifted into a much lower gear nearly causing a major accident as i was in the far left lane of a very busy freeway. at this point we took the truck into port lavaca ford. they have had the necessary part on order for 3 weeks. we are told the part is on back order and some dealers in our area have been waiting for over a month for the part and it is still not available. i feel ford needs to address this issue and provide the necessary parts to customers in a timely manner.
Initial start off starts in 5th gear 50% of the time. the only way to get it back to 1st is to shut the truck off, this usually takes several ignition cycles to correct the issue. erratic shifting throughout driving the vehicle 100% of the time. the vehicle shifts between 6th and 4th for no reason during a normal drive on the interstate 75% of operation. hard down shifting at speeds above 50mph. often while going down the interstate at over 50mph the truck will shift into 1st or 2nd locking up the tires. the only way to get it out of the lower gear is to shut the car off and turn it on. i have slid sideways on the highway and almost been hit in the back several times. the dealership i purchased the truck from will not even touch the vehicle for less than $115 for a diagnostics fee. they said if it is the tsb13-04-09 as they suspect it will be $1,029.00 to repair in addition to the diagnostics fee. a local transmission facility has quoted $615.00 to repair. i have almost wrecked several times and have had to stop the traffic on the interstate at least once a week, most of the time twice a week. this too is dangerous for not only me but the entire interstate as the traffic halts due to the ford transmission. i have video of the transmission shifting down and up shifting.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. shortly after the vehicle was purchased, the contact stated that the gears independently downshifted from a high gear to a lower gear without warning. in addition, various warning indicators and gauges illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by a dealer. the place from where the vehicle was purchased provided a 30 day warranty and could not diagnose the failure. two days after the warranty expired, an independent mechanic diagnosed that the transmission assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued intermittently. the contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train) and was waiting on the manufacturer to receive a dealer referral to repair the vehicle. the part was not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the recall notice. the failure mileage was not available. parts distribution disconnect.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle downshifted without warning to a lower gear upon either acceleration or deceleration. the contact stated that the failure occurred most often in cold and rainy conditions. betten baker ford in ludington, michigan was made aware of the failure and scheduled the contact an appointment for service. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the vehicle was not under recall. the failure mileage was 77,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle downshifted unexpectedly. the wrench warning icon illuminated. the vehicle was taken to dave syverson ford lincoln (2310 e main st, albert lea, mn 560047) where it was diagnosed that the transmission and leaf spring wires needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired due to parts being on backorder. additionally, the contact called a local dealer (gookin ford, 510 factory outlet drive, story city, ia 50248) and was informed that parts were on backorder. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 290,000.
While driving at constant speed on the highway at approximately 70mph, truck spontaneously downshifted into a drastically lower gear (from 6th gear to 1 or 2). vehicle rear tires chirped/squealed and vehicle lurched due to engine braking effect vs. current speed. speedometer needle waved wildly during this event (+/- 30mph back and forth). condition appears identical to recall symptoms on 2011-2012 truck of same make/model/build location. no accident occurred as a result of this malfunction, but would have had another vehicle been nearby (temporary loss of control and rapid loss of speed). a case was opened with ford corporate on 10/30/17. both ford corporate and dealer service refuse to acknowledge that any issue is present since the technician was unable to duplicate malfunction. when informed that further use of the vehicle without resolution would unnecessarily endanger myself and my family, neither representative offered any further steps toward resolution. several similar issues appear to exist with identical vehicles base upon simple internet searches.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the vehicle downshifted from fifth to second gear. the driver coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, waited a few minutes, and was able to resume driving. the vehicle was taken to imperial ford (8 uxbridge rd, mendon, ma 01756, phone number: (888) 814-8373) and failure code p0731 (transmission) was found. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the manufacturer stated that the dealer needed to contact them about the duplication of the diagnostic test. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the vehicle downshifted and the check engine and power train (wrench) warning indicators illuminated. the contact pulled the vehicle over, shut off, and restarted the vehicle on the first attempt. the contact noticed the failure more when he first started the vehicle and drove the first few miles. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (ford of escondido, 1717 auto park way, escondido, ca, 92029) where it was diagnosed that the lead frame failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired at the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: cas13257072. the manufacturer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train) and referred the contact to the dealer. the dealer referred the contact back to the manufacturer. the contact was not offered any additional assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 114,000. *bf updated 8/1/18*jb *as
Transmission randomly shifts into 3rd gear and stays stuck in 3rd. no power and it is difficult to get out of the way of traffic. this has happen both at a stop light and on the highway.

Multiple severe transmission issues: 1. suddenly dropping from 4th to 1st gear, causing sudden decrease in speed, screeching of tires, and passengers in vehicle to be thrown forward. 2. erratic speedometer. while driving at highway speeds, speedometer will drop and start to jump between approx 15 mph and 65 mph; this is followed by a very large clunking sound. 3. vehicle stays in too high gear. engine and transmission run in higher gear than should be; noise and vibrations can be heard/felt in vehicle. 4. transmission will not engage and shift into proper gear from a stopped position. engine revs high, but truck barely moves. this is a major safety issue (1st issue noted). it has been identified by multiple other owners through internet searches. ford is aware of the issue. their standard diagnostics do not pick up the issue, but when they contact escalated service engineers from corporate they tell the dealer to try a few other tricks to see if it is what they suspect. there is a known flaw that they will not publish. this repair is supposedly the wiring harness and lead frame that needs replacement. have had the truck into the dealer 7 times for transmission repairs and finally after them keeping the truck for 3 weeks they have identified the issue. customers services says there is nothing they can do to help me but they will make note of the concern. there should be a safety recall on this and i'd be happy to provide any more info you need. i have service records showing the truck has been in the shop many times with no success. i do not have final service history from plattsburgh ford yet, but will by end of the week and can upload or send then as needed. www.carcomplaints.com
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). while driving, the transmission suddenly downshifted into a lower gear three times in one day. jordan ford (609 e jefferson blvd, mishawaka, in 46545, (574) 259-1981) stated that the recall remedy would not be ready until approximately june of 2019. another dealer (zeigler ford lincoln elkhart, 2525 bypass rd, elkhart, in 46514, (574) 294-1563) stated that they could not perform the recall repair. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that they did not have the software update to repair the transmission and the remedy would not be available until approximately june of 2019. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.
On 2 occassions truck down shifted violently into 1st gear while i was driving apprx 45 mph it happened 3days apart ,2nd time had passenger and was terrifying and i took truck immediately to mahwah ford then to a transmission specailist
61,000 miles power steering failed in motion fault on steering angle sensor not sold had to replace whole steering rack $2000.00 now in motion transmission fault code p7031 first gear sync will not shift from second to first without bucking. dealer says transmission needs to be taken apart thousands of dollars and 1500 miles out of warranty
My ford f150 with 6r80 automatic transmission vehicle frequently loses vehicle speedometer reading - the display drops outs to zero mph and rough & dangerous downshifts often results even at freeway speeds @ 75 mph. it has happened many times beginning summer of 2017 with stored pcm fault codes still present.
When traveling at highway speed, the automatic transmission suddenly downshifted without warning into first gear causing the rear tires to suddenly lock up. appears to be same issue that affected 2011-2012 f150 trucks that was addressed with recall 16v-248.
Been having this issue intermittently for the past 2 months since bought the truck. car would lose power, choke and transmission disengage and shifts gears randomly. it seems to be locked in neutral. parked on the side, put it in p and then d and it will work again. may 2017 - brought the truck for inspection at closest ford dealer. they couldn't reproduce the issue and thought resetting the computer would solve it. july 2017 - brought back the truck to another ford dealer. they couldn't reproduce the issue but found out that the transmission oil was low therefore filled it up. july 2017 - still having the issue, leaving the truck at the ford dealer for one week... they couldn't reproduce the problem... took the truck back august 2017 - drove one month without major chocking. was driving on the highway at 100km/h and the vehicle went crazy downshifting and locked the rear wheels, cars behind almost hit me... almost lost control but was able to pull at the next exit and call the towing. it could've been worst... truck is now at my local dealer for diagnostic. there's no way i'm taking back the car before they fix it august 15, 2017 - local ford has been able to reproduce the issue. transmission was shifting randomly into different gears. the culprit was the lead frame part #al3z7g276b. upon investigation there was a recall on that for 2010-2012 fords.. well well... i was still all covered under warranty. hopefully, no issue will ever come back!
For awhile now i've been hearing a loud rattling noise when i start my truck in the morning.. never payed it much mind until recently, i started to investigate it online and found out that it appears to be a common problem with theses trucks. it's the timming chain stretch.. took it to my mechanic he also verified that's what it is he said he seen this a lot with the other fords. then i took it to the ford dealer and they said they are not going to fix it because it's out of warranty, the truck has 65000 miles, this problem has been going on for awhile now, and from what i'm reading online it appears to be a common issue.. was wondering why ford will not honor this issue and repair the problem?
I know that the us govt is looking into fords that downshift randomly into first gear, and i wanted to report that my f150 has done this twice, i don't remember where the second one occurred but the first one was on the highway going about 65. sudden unexpected downshift to a low gear and engine rpms redline and truck slows down considerably. my truck was built 1/13.
While traveling on interstate at approximately 70 mph, speedometer suddenly went to zero and transmission shifted from 6th gear to 1st gear causing the rear wheels to slide from the sudden deceleration, nearly causing an accident. vehicle had previously been taken to dealership for service due to a similar issue where the indicated speed would suddenly change while traveling at constant speed and the transmission would downshift 2 or more gears in response. pcm was reprogrammed at that time but the issue would still occur periodically. dealership is now replacing the transmission molded leadframe at a cost of over $1000. this defect is identical to ford safety recall 16s19, but the recall only covers year model 2011 & 2012 vehicles. this is a major safety issue that needs to be covered be a recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 8 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning in the middle of an intersection. the contact stated that the failure occurred numerous times. the dealer (truck city of buda, texas) was made aware of the failure, but could not duplicate the failure. the dealer stated that there were no error codes to help diagnose the issue. in addition, the dealer requested that the contact record video footage of the incident. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and provided the contact with case number: cas12626484. the failure mileage was 54,000.
Driving down freeway at 65 truck shift from 6 gear to 1st locking up tires then back to 6 gear did this several times this is not safe then engine lost power and wrench light showed up turn key off and it restarted
