We have classified the 203 complaints from 2006 Nissan Xterra about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Fuel gauge stopped working. at first, it would go to empty after filling the tank, and driving for a while, start working normal. but now it has stopped working completely. *tr
Fuel gauge never goes below 1/4 sticks and is inaccurate, same symptoms as recalled vehicles, yet this vin wasn't include in the recall and should be. tank runs empty yet still indicates 1/4 full a safety hazard. this vehicle should be included to the recall for the exact same defective parts! updated 02/09/17*lj *tr *cn
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that the vehicle ran out of fuel and the fuel gauge failed to indicate that the vehicle needed fuel. the fuel tank was replenished, but the fuel gauge still did not display the correct fuel level. the vehicle was not taken to dealer or an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000. updated 8/31/15*cn
When driving the car at 40mph/around 1000rpms the vehicle began vibrating at the back end. upon acceleration, the vibration ceased. this behavior became consistent. a mechanic independent from nissan found that the transmission and radiator must be replaced per his conversation with the local nissan dealership. also advising independent mechanic that the dealership admits to having a floor full of transmissions that need repair. i investigated the class action suit filed in 2010 and already settled, but had no knowledge of this prior as nissan did not alert me to the persistent problem since 2005 i should expect my car to develop. *tr
On 5/19/2010 the nhtsa and nissan issued a recall campaign bulletin #ntb10-031a covering certain nissan vehicles manufactured between 2006 and 2008. the recall was to address a potential fuel gauge accuracy. specifically, the issue can cause the fuel gauge to show the vehicle still has fuel when the tank is actually empty. this could result in the vehicle shutting down, rendering power steering, power brakes and other vehicle systems inoperable or where performance may be greatly reduced, which at highway speeds could cause of loss or control or accident. my 2005 nissan titan was recalled for the same issue and was in fact impacted when the vehicle shut off at highway speed. i was fortunately able to control the vehicle to a safe stop and the vehicle was fixed under an identical recall. in july 2014, when my son's 2006 nissan xterra began to experience similar symptoms. i contacted nissan to confirm that vehicles inclusion in the aforementioned campaign. i spoke to [xxx] and opened case [xxx]. [xxx] instructed me to have the vehicle diagnosed at a nissan dealership (which i did), but she subsequently denied coverage under the recall stating that the vin was not included. she stated that not all vehicles for that model year were included in the recall, but rather were offered extended warranty coverage for the specific part which my vehicle was now beyond. this was not stated in the campaign notice - i requested she escalate my concern to a supervisor. a week later i was contacted by [xxx] (no last name given) from nissan. [xxx] contradicted what i had previously been told by stating that all model year 2006 xterras were only given extended warranty coverage (i'm not sure if [xxx] or [xxx] were at this point lying to me) and that nissan would not reconsider my request for coverage. this is my 5th nissan. i'm requesting nissan cover the ~$380 repair. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
My fuel gauge went to zero after i just filled up, my check engine light went on. code p0463. the fuel pump is fine, just the fuel level sensor. i have heard this is a common issue with this year, is there going to be a recall? *tr
While on a business trip away from home noticed the heater stopped blowing warm air. a few minutes later engine temperature spiked but then returned to normal. 50 miles later heater started working again. took the car to a local mechanic and discovered transmission cooler within the radiator had failed, allowing the radiator coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. paid for the replacement of the radiator/transmission cooler, system flush. had the system flushed again 1 week after radiator replacement. transmission now acting erratically, particular when shifting between 3rd and 4th gear. initial assessments by mechanic suggests transmission and transmission computer require replacement. cost of replacement exceeds the value of car even though the rest of the car is in excellent condition. *tr
I purchased my 2006 nissan xterra a month ago and when i drove off the lot it registered a quarter tank of gas but the next day as i was driving it ran out of gas. i filled up the gas tank and again it registered a quarter tank for about 5 minutes then went to e with the gas light on. i looked online and found there was a recall for the fuel sending unit and i called nissan who told me to take it to a local dealer to get looked at. i just came back from the dealer who told me that it was already replaced with a new part and there is nothing they can do for me. if it was replaced with a new part then why is there still a problem. this is an extreme hazard as i can run out of gas in the middle of an intersection or a busy highway. i feel this should be fixed by nissan as they know this is a faulty part and evidently even the new parts are faulty. *tr
Fuel sending unit is faulty, causing truck to stall on a major highway twice with no warning (while showing there was still gas, but tank empty). driving with my 5 year old son and almost being crashed into because of this hazard. nissan had a recall out on few vin #'s in which mine was supposedly not included. nissan says they are not obligated to do anything about this problem which seems to be common with this vehicle when i look it up. the repair costs around $600 to fix. my truck has failed inspection because of this issue, so now in order for me to drive and not be pulled over, i have to somehow gather $600 together to fix this. i'm a single parent who cannot afford to fix this, and as i see all over the internet, many people have had to replace this same part multiple times on the same vehicle. doesn't sound proper to me when it's a safety hazard. *tr
Filled up with gas. drove approx. 5 miles and service engine light came on. *tr
The fuel hand gets to half a tank and suddenly goes to empty there for i am not able to track my fuel usage properly and this causes the service engine light to show the nissan company will not fix my vehicle they say its out of warranty. *tr
Code - p0463 - fuel level sensor circuit high input. fuel gauge does not reflect an accurate amount of fuel. sadly this code is an ever common code across all nissan. *tr
nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000: nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 frontier, xterra and pathfinder vehicles. the molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. my vehicle was denied coverage because the vin was not in the recall batch. an authorized nissan dealer diagnosed and fixed the issue. nissan america reviewed the issue and still denied coverage not because the failure was legitimate but rather because of the vin technicality. vehicles in my vin lot need to be added to this safety recall. *tr
We have recently began to notice the heat - this past winter did not want to blow warm/hot air unless we were stopped in trying to diagnose the problem, we found red/foaming transmission fluid in our radiator-what a surprise after draining and flushing the radiator system and the fact we did not need the heater any further thought we maybe just had a fluke thing happen. now in driving our xterra it has all of a sudden developed a transmission problem that endangers anyone who drives it. it starts our running smooth and then out of no where has no movement and then in an instant will lunge. we have been on the interstate and had this scenario happen in traffic - talk about scary when another vehicle all of sudden is in your back window and now on your bumper..it has caused us to be fearful we were going to be the cause of a major accident more than once. we have a 6 year old that is with us all the time and i can tell you that we are afraid to put him in this vehicle and go anywhere. we are a two income family living from paycheck to paycheck and do not know where or how we are going to get the money for repairs. nissan denies there is a problem but rest assured, if we are in a wreck because of this issue there will be a lawsuit. *tr
Fuel gauge does accurately display remaining fuel in tank and service engine light has come on. *tr
Fuel gauge quits working because of faulty tank sending unit. *tr
I was filling up the vehicle with gas. next thing i know the vehicle had the check engine light on. call nissan and the stated is a common problem. since then i have been out of gas twice on the streets due to a unknowing my gas level. at nissan they stated that is not a hazard which i believe it s when it happen in busy roads or at night. *tr
One day after filling my tank with gas, the check engine light came on. after having the obd2 scanned i had an p0463 trouble code for the fuel level sending unit. the fuel level gauge stopped working after that and still does not give a correct reading. i never know how much gas is in the tank! *js
Defective fuel gauge sensor. was not aware that there was a recall period to have sensor checked out and fixed for free. grace period has expired and dealership which is lokey nissan now wants to charge us nearly $700 dollars to fix. if we had known about this defect earlier via any type of communication, we would have had vehicle checked out. since we purchased this vehicle from said dealership, we would have expected some sort of notice concerning this flaw. we have had our share of problems that should not have occurred with such low mileage, but this is over the top. *js
My fuel gauge shows the wrong fuel level and the engine light comes on indicating a fault with the fuel sending unit. i thought my vehicle would be part of the recall id # 10v075000 - fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank. i called nissan and gave them my vin. they informed me that my vehicle is not part of the recall. i have the exact problem addressed in the recall. same make, model and year. *tr
My fuel sender float does not work. i have to keep track of the miles just to be sure i don't run out of gas on a train track or in the middle of nowhere. there was a recall done for this part for 2001-2008 nissan xterras. mine in an '06, but when i try to get it fixed the dealership and the nissan manufacturer tell me that the recall doesn't apply to my vin. its not fair that some vehicles with the proper vin that have this problem are allowed to get fixed but not mine with the same problem. *tr
My service engine soon light came on during normal driving. ran the code through a scangauge computer and returned p0436 which is a fuel level circuit high imput. it is a very common issue that make the fuel gauge read incorrectly and could result in a loss of power in the lane of traffic which make for a dangerous situation. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the check engine warning lamp illuminated and fuel gauge was erroneously providing a reading of half full the fuel tank was empty. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel level sensor circuit was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacture was made aware of the problem who did not offer any assistances since the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 88,000.
Recall for 2006 xterra with manufacturer date of jan-march. my manufacturer date of my vehicle is august but has the same fuel level sensor issue listed on the recall. this has caused me to dangerously run out of gas on an interstate causing hazardous conditions. problem: fuel sensor indicates there is fuel in the tank when in fact it is empty. it either stays full or stays at half a tank. the service engine soon light comes on intermittently. *js
We brought our nissan 2006 xterra in to the boardwalk auto center. redwood city, ca - nissan to have them check on what we thought was another transmission issue (nissan replaced the transmission, at their expense over $8000, once and the fuel gauge twice plus a couple of other recall items). when we picked up the car they told us we needed a new timing chain for about $2000 (we have heard these are not normal items to be replaced and should last the lifetime of the car). we can't believe there is yet another major expensive problem part with this car! when does this car become a lemon and how many major items are going to need to be replaced? what is happening to nissan? has the timing chain issue been investigated and how many other people are having this problem? *kb
Error code p0463 fuel level sensor a circuit high input. *tr
Service engine soon light has appeared. the code is p0463 which states fuel level sensor circuit high input. aa1. open or short circuit condition aa2. poor electrical connection. aa3. faulty fuel level sensor. the more i read about this, the more i find many xterras having this problem. funny thing is..........paid it of two weeks ago. : ( *tt
The fuel level sensor is malfunctioning, it suddenly goes to empty at no particular level the fuel tank is actually at. my risk is to run out of gas in the middle of an emergency situation. my coworker has the same problem with his xterra as well, it seems to be a factory defect for these cars. someone needs to check this out as there might be many consumers affected by this issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated the fuel sensor would not provide an accurate fuel level reading. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic but not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and confirmed to the contact that the vehicle was included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank) but the vehicle did not qualify for repairs due to the mileage on the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that after refueling, the gauge displayed an inaccurate fuel reading. the vehicle was taken to an auto repair shop for diagnostic testing where the contact was advised that the fuel lever sensor was defective. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign i.d. number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank) and called the manufacturer. the manufacturer advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall based on the vin. the failure mileage was 75,013.
2006 nissan xterra fuel sending unit stopped working at 43,000 miles. the fuel gauge started showing inaccurate amounts, then worked intermittently, then stopped working completely. reading the nissan forums, this is a very, very common problem, and there should be a recall. *tr
My 2006 xterra had the p0463 code come up, with the 'service engine soon' light, and my fuel gauge not properly displaying what is actually in the fuel tank. the fuel gauge will drop to show empty when i fill the tank, other times it will slowly raise up to show full, but it can be all over the place. i use my trip odometer to know where i'm actually at for fuel. if this is a known on going issue with xterra's, then there should be a mandatory recall. your assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. *tr
The fuel gauge on my vehicle is erratic and does not accurately show the amount of fuel in the tank. it will read full when almost empty, empty when full, or anything in-between. there is no way to tell how much fuel is in the tank which i think is a safety concern. nissan knows about this problem with the xterra fuel sensor but will not issue a recall or fix my vehicle because it doesn't have the right vin according to their customer service people. there are many many other consumers commenting on-line with the same problem. why has a general recall not been issued??? nissan should not be able to get away with knowing of faulty equipment and not fixing it. thank you for your help! *tr
I noticed last summer that when i gassed my nissan xterra up that the gas gauge would not show it being full and after visiting my local nissan dealership it was diagnosed that it was a faulty fuel sensor error code p0463 and since i had over 75,000 miles on my xterra at the time nissan would not pay to repair it and that i had the option to pay for the repair myself which is well over 300 hundred dollars . i was also told by the dealership this was a known defect for 2005 and 2006 xterra pathfinders etc. i have since found out that there was a nhtsa campaign recall on this id # 10v075000. i have since looked this up and found that this only covered xterras with certain vins and i'm not sure if my xterra is one of these vins. i also found it only covered it up to 75,000 miles which of course doesn't help me since the fuel sensor broke after 75,000 miles. this has been a very annoying problem for me for the last year and although i haven't run out of gas yet i've been close and i'm sure its only a matter of time before it will and then it will a safety issue for me.i recently contacted nissan and talked to one of their representatives [xxx] at 1-800-343-6913 ext [xxx] and was told because i have over 105,000 miles on my xterra now that nissan would not pay to have it fixed and it was my problem.i feel that this a very known defect that nissan knows about and has only halfway tried to resolve ie only covers xterras with certain vins and up to 75,000 miles which shouldn't matter.it still is a defective part that i don't consider a wear and tear part and mileage vins shouldn't matter. i think nissan should pay to have the fuel sensor fixed and mileage vins shouldn't matter they need to stand behind their products and correct their mistakes as this is a potential safety issue.i would appreciate any help in getting this issue resolved thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Fuel level indicator failure, ran out of gas in the roadway, check engine light on. *tt
Check engine light on due to error code p0463 (fuel level sensor malfunction). based on my research this happens to an unusually high number of second generation nissan xterra owners. *tr
The molded fuel tank shell deformed causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has fuel when the tank is empty.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated the fuel sending unit failed. the contact had the unit replaced once under warranty and again under nhtsa recall campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system: gasoline storage auxiliary tank) but the failure recurred. the contact believed that the manufacturer did not create a proper recall repair. the failure mileage was 74,585 and the current mileage was 78,000.
Defective fuel level sensor, nissan does cover this under warranty but only up to a 70,000 milage limit. if part is defective it should be replaced regardless of miles. i contacted nissan directly and was told sorry, over mileage cannot help. this is a safety issue that could endanger occupants with inaccurate fuel amounts, i.e. un-expectantly run out of fuel in the middle no-where or on the interstate. does it become less safe with more miles, i would think not. nissan should be made to make the repairs regardless of miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the vehicle was being inspected by an independent repair shop when he was informed that the service engine light was illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact was also informed that the fuel level sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank). the failure and current mileage was 125,000. updated 07/08/11*lj the consumer stated there was rubbing sound coming from the vehicle. at diagnostic test revealed a component in the fuel system need to be replaced. the mechanic advised the consumer to take the vehicle to the dealer for repairs because a recall had been issued. the dealer informed the consumer his vin was not included in the recall. updated 07/20/11*jb
2006 nissan xterra vin# [xxx]. my complaint is probably the most common with the xterra. the fuel level sending unit.when i refuel vehicle the gas gauge needle does not move to the full line. instead it stays on empty only after driving approx 30 to 40 miles will the needle move back up to the full line but also at the same time the service engine soon light comes on. that will stay on for approx 3 trips of using vehicle before it goes back off. i was told 2006 xterras were covered under this recall however my vin number was not.makes no sense why some 2006"s are covered and others are not. to me you either bought a 2006 xterra or you didnt.i bought a nissan because i thought i wouldn't have these problems i thought that was with non foreign vehicles , boy was i wrong. nissan step up to the plate and take care of this issue which so many customers are having instead of turning the cheek. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge was malfunctioning and displaying improper readings. the fuel gauge would display an empty reading after refueling. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel gauge was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assitance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 76,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.
2006 nissan xterra recall id from nhtsa: 10v075000 they said it doesn't apply to my car!? it's on a recall list for my model but they said my vin is not in there system? wth is going on with nissan and my vin not being in their system for a recall. issue came up engine light on with code p0463, which is what the recall is for. *tr
Nissan xterra 2006, both front cats have failed. dealer said due to ethanol a common problem, cost around $2300. found cats and a mechanic for $1200. after 3 weeks check engine light returned. i am now getting a p0643. dealer passport nissan quoted around $700 to fix plus another $350 for belt replacement. none of the other recalls am eligible for due to being out of warranty. also had to replace front and rear u-joints within a year of each. *tr
Our fuel sensory went out on our nissan xterra shortly before we reached 100000 miles. nissan is aware of the problem and sent a letter out for a warranty only. however, the warranty included 2006 nissan xterras with less than 72000 miles on them. when i did research i found that over 80000 2006 nissan xterras were affected by this. i contacted nissan usa to have them resolve the issue of the fuel tank sensor and indicated i would like the defect fixed. they refused to fix it and indicated it would cost me a little over $400 to fix. i asked them for financial assistance since i do not have this to pay for the repair on top of my $433 a month a car payment. i recently had a baby and never know when my car is empty. the sensor no longer reads fuel levels and is constantly showing empty. i was up for emissions testing this year and can not pass emissions until the sensor has been replaced. i believe since this is such a wide spread issue that nissan should recall the part. just this week my vehicle ran out of gas according to my speedometer i had 100 miles left on the tank it misread and i was stuck with my screaming 5 month old on the side on the road at night waiting for aaa to arrive . this wide spread problem needs to be addressed by nissan and not just shoved to the side. way to many vehicles are affected for this to remain a warranty issue only!!!!! i have see the stats listed here on nhtsa. campaign id # 10v075000. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. while driving approximately 30 mph all of the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to move the vehicle onto the emergency lane and restarted the vehicle. the dealer replaced the fuel sending unit. the manufacturer advised her that there was an extended warranty for the failure, but it had expired at 72,000 miles. the failure and the current mileage were 107,600.
I drive a 2005 nissan xterra. the service engine light turned on after i filled my vehicle with gas and the gas gauge read 1/4 tank. the gauge slowly went up to 1/2 tank, but now i can't trust it. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the check engine light would illuminate on the instrumental panel intermittently. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that he would need to replace the fuel sending unit. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000. updated 05/03/11*lj updated 05/05/11
Fuel sending unit level faulty. it is a pratically new and low milage car. the fuel level gauge is not accurate and i was running on an empty tank when it showed 1/2 a tank full. that led to my car running out of gas in the middle of the road late at night commuting home from work.
Fuel sending unit on 2006 nissan xterra fails intermittently when tank is low. the gauge will not move to full at gas station after filling--but does so gradually taking about a day or so. this has occurred twice when on vacation, when gas tank gets low (at home, we never let get below half). nissan will not fix unless it is in failure or check engine light is on when you present @ dealer. even when it fails, the check engine light does not come on. *tr
