Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Nissan Xterra

I have a 2006 xterra and i have the same problem that alot of people are having. started off with fuel gauge not reading correct then shortly after the service engine light has been on. i work with someone one else who's 2006 xterra has the exact same problem. why should this be something we have to fix. there is obviously something wrong with the 2006 models. *tr

2006 nissan xterra---55k, fuel sending unit if bad. fillup with gas & the gauge doesn't work and the ses light stays on. *tr

Fuel gauge on 2006 xterra reads empty when it is not. saw online that many people have this problem and in prior models was a recall and corrected but not models after 2005. obviously is still a problem and could run out of gas on a busy highway or who knows what could happen with a fuel problem. *tr

Nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 frontier, xterra and pathfinder vehicles. the molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender. *tr float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. this has happened and been repaired 4 times on my 2006 xterra without resolution.

Gas gauge does not read correctly and the check engine light is on. the gas gauge is defective and needs to be replaced. *tr

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle still registered a quarter tank. the check engine light came on.i checked the code and the fuel sending unit/sensor had high input. after coming home and doing research i find out that many people are having the same problem. this needs to be fixed and the customers shouldn't have to pay for something that was knowingly faulty from the company. *tr

Gas gauge does not read correctly and the "check engine light is now on. *tr

The fuel gauge light and service light came on, showing empty, due to fuel sensor defection on my 2006 nissan exterra, only 40,000 miles.this cause me confusion and frustration on a long trip. this was existing problem that nissan ignore to recall for replace. many nissan vehicle owner has same problem, and the cost to fix this problem is 500-600 dollars. *tr

2006 nissan xterra. consumer states fuel gauge failed to work *tgw the consumer stated the failure occurred because of a faulty fuel level sender. also, the serpentine belt was replaced. *jb recently, the consumer had to replace the timing chains on the vehicle. the replacement was required, because of the premature failure of the tensioners that held the timing chain in place. the consumer stated it was obvious, the premature failure of the adjusters were caused by wear and cracks on the parts. updated 06/10/13

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact started the ignition after dispensing fuel into the fuel tank, and observed that the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading with the service engine warning light illumination. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the failure occurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician advised that the fuel gauge would need to be replaced. the part was unavailable at the time of the diagnosis. there was a recall under the nhtsa campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank); however, the contact's vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. the failure mileage was 58,000.

1. the vehicle has had a general lack of accuracy in the fuel gauge. 2. recently, the "service engine soon" indicator came on, and the dealership informed me it was due to a fuel sending unit malfunction. 3. the dealer is currently replacing the fuel sending unit at a cost to me of $595+tax. this vehicle is a 2006 nissan xterra, just outside the dom covered in recall 10v-075, with 38,000 miles (just outside warranty). *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. after adding fuel to the vehicle while it was parked he noticed that the fuel gauge did not move. he stated that most of the time after adding fuel the fuel gauge stayed on empty. he referenced recall 10v075000, fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and he was advised that his vehicle was not part of the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact had to set his trip mileage counter in order to avoid running out of gasoline. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000 and the current mileage was 66,500.

2006 nissan xterra, gas gauge showing 1/4 tank when it is empty. *bf

I fill my gas tank, the gauge falls to the bottom and the light comes on, then shortly the check engine soon light comes on it seems like there is a recall but only to a range of vin's and unfortunately my car is not in this range. the nhtsa campaign id number is 10v075000. the symptoms are exactly the same as described in this camp. id number. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated the fuel level gauge would read inaccurate fuel levels. the vehicle would read the fuel tank as empty when it was full. the contact was able to locate a recall for the failure (nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 component: fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxillary tank) but was informed by the dealer that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 33,000. updated 11/16/10*bf

2006 nissan xterra fuel sending unit error/failure. *tr

Two weeks after nissan dealer did a 60k service in my 2006 xterra the check engine light popped up while driving and my gas gauge went from full to empty and back in rapid succession while driving, causing major distraction. the odb code for the check engine light is p0463. *tr

1. i filled my gas tank, then as i was driving down the highway. 2. the check engine light came on and my tank reads as empty and the ses light is on, even though a full tank. 3. nissan has a recall on my type and year of vehicle for this exact problem (fuel system). but my vin does not qualify for the recall; even though the exact year and type is the same as the recall. i had to have the fuel level sending unit replaced. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated the check engine warning light illuminated. the dealer advised that the fuel sending unit had failed. although there was a recall for the failure (nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000- fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxillary tank) the contact's vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 70,000.

2006 nissan xterra fuel gauge misreads current amount of fuel in tank (i currently have a full tank and it reads empty on the gauge) this problem has been happening every time i filled my tank, which is often because i commute over 100 miles a day. i have called nissan because there is a current recall for the fuel sending unit, which they admit is causing the problems, however my 2006 nissan xterra is not in included in the recall meant for 2006 xterras, causing me to pay for the unit out of my own pocket, which is roughly $400. i see this as a problem since i cannot have an accurate reading on my fuel gauge, it may cause my vehicle to stall in traffic. there are many other nissans with this same problem. *tr

The fuel gauge is not accurate after filling the tank. it gradually moves up to the proper amount after a long time. up to 70 miles till it registers correctly. *tr

When fuel gauge reaches half a tank then the needle goes all the way down indicating there is not gas and the light goes on. the dte goes from couple of hundred miles left to zero. it happen everytime the needle reaches half a tank. *tr

Fuel gauge showing wrong amount of gas level due to faulty/defective fuel level sending unit in 2006 nissan xterras. nissan has sent out a recall for 2006 xterras, but only for certain vehicles within a certain manufacture date within that year. the manufacture dates should be extended since it seems many 2006 nissan xterra owners have the same problem, showing that nissan should take the blame on putting a defective part in their vehicles. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the fuel sensor failed and does not give an accurate measure of the fuel that is in the fuel tank. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic where they replaced the fuel sensor at his expense for $375. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would not reimburse him for the repair since the vin was not a part of the recall. the failure mileage was 30,000. updated 11/03/10 *bf updated 11/04/10*jb

2006 nissan xterra fuel gauge displays incorrect readings, i have extended warranty and there is a recall but my vehicle is not on the list. i have taken to dealer but they claim nothing is wrong with it. except when i drive vehicle gas gauge goes from quarter tank to empty then back to quarter tank. *tr

2006 nissan xterra - service engine soon light comes on. checked the light at auto zone and the code is po463 "fuel level sensor a circuit high input". will cost around $500 to fix - say it's a bad sensor. gas gauge isn't correct, goes to zero and bounces back up over 50 or so miles. have researched this and many others have the same issue in their 2006 xterras. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan x-terra. the contact stated the float arm was sticking and causing the fuel gauge to read inaccurate fuel levels. the dealer performed a diagnostic of the failure and found it to be the exact same failure as described in nhtsa recall campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank). however, the dealer advised the contacts vin was not included in the recall and the contact would be liable for any repairs. the manufacturer was contacted and he was awaiting a response. the vehicle was not yet repaired. the failure and current mileages were 84,000.

I have a 2006 nissan xterra with 70k miles on it. my gas tank was under 1/4 of a tank. i filled up and when i started my truck the next day the service engine light came on. i tightened my gas cap and the light still remains. my gas tank had also showed that i had an empty tank. it took a day or so of driving until the gauge showed the correct amount of gas. *tr

June 2, 2009 i had to have my 2006 nissan xterra to victory nissan in mechanicsville, va after being told by nissan's recall representative that my problem has not been classified as a recall. my fuel-line burst and spewed gas in my engine compartment. it cost me $310.58 to have it replaced. june 7, 2010 the fueline burst in the exact same place, this time spraying me in the face with gasoline when i raised the hood-luckily i was wearing eyeglasses. again i was told by nissan recall that there isn't a recall for this problem. the reason escapes me as this is very dangerous both with potential fire and physical injury. nobody has been hurt so far with this issue. in a separate incident, my fuel gauge that is a known hazard began acting erratically a couple of months ago, and i was told that xterras with my particular vehicle identification number do not fall under the current recall that nissan has on this issue. their reason for the recall is that the fuel gauge could read at 1/4 full but be empty and cause the vehicle to run out of gas in traffic and cause an accident. i guess my car will not run out of gas and cause crashes according to nissan, right? *tr

Tl* contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated the fuel gauge system malfunctioned and would read inaccurate fuel levels. the dealer stated the fuel gauge system would need to be replaced. the contact inquired with the manufacturer about nhtsa recall campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank) but his vin was not included in the recall. the contact was concerned with the possibility of running out of fuel. the failure mileage was 34,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact was driving approximately 50 mph when the check engine warning light illuminated. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they informed the contact that the fuel level sending unit would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank) however, the contact's vin was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was approximately 29,189. updated 12/23/10. *lj 04/07/11

2006 nissan fuel gauge shows that the vehicle has one quarter tank when the fuel tank could actually be empty. *tr

Gas gauge stays on empty. the car only has 47,000 miles on it. *tr

Fuel gauge of 2006 nissan xterra reports wrong fuel level. if the fuel drops below 1/4 tank the check engine (ce) light comes on. after filling up the tank it takes about 20 miles of driving for the gauge to go all the way to full (not instantly as it's supposed to do). if the car is driven for more than 300 miles, and the tank is maintained above 1/4 tank full the ce light goes off. as soon as level drops below 1/4 the ce light comes back on. *tr

2006 nissan xterra fuel gauge/sender failure at 49k miles with engine service light permanently on. *tr

After filling tank with gas completely, fuel gauge still reads 1/4 full. this happens 100% of the time since the first time it occurred. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact noticed that when the fuel tank was full the fuel gauge indicated that the gasoline tank was empty. the check engine light was also illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the fuel sending unit was defective. the local mechanic advised the contact to have the vehicle repaired by an authorized dealer. the dealer confirmed that the fuel sending unit needed to be repaired. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in recall 10v075000, fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank. the vehicle was repaired. report number 6858003 was filed with the manufacturer who stated that they would not offer any assistance with the repair cost. the failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 90,700.

2006 nissan xterra ses light came on during hot weather while driving, ses code number p0463 fuel sending unit. filled up tank and gas gauge doesn't work shows 1/2 tank when full, cool weather problem goes away some times, hot weather problem comes back, i never know how much gas i have, nissan recall doesn't apply to mine due to vin numbers not matching recall. nissan consumer affairs was no help, bought brand new $30,000+ ,,75,000 miles now problem started at 71,000. seems nissan has a big problem with this issue and is very slow to address it. poor customer service, danger of running out of fuel as i never know if my gauge is correct. *tr

I have a 2006 xterra se with 67000 miles that is giving me a error code of p0463 for about 3 months now. i filed a complaint to nissan consumer affairs but they decline the repair. the issue i am having with my xterra is fuel gauge not working and the service engine soon is on. below are some links of other nissan customers that are having the same issue: http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/xterra/4151-fuel-gauge-problem-sevice-engine-soon-light-10.html http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10923 http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4454 http://www.clubfrontier.org/forums/f23/p0463-code-57501/ i see this as a safety risk not knowing how much fuel is in the tank. thank you for your time. *tr

My fuel gauge is faulty. the gas gauge is showing more gas than there is in the tank, then i won't "refill" when the car is filled up. the truck also has a service engine light on with the code p0463 which is related to the fuel level sending unit. this situation could leave me to stall out due to a lack of gas when the sensor is showing gas in the tank. *tr

My 2006 nissan xterra's check engine light repeatedly lights up. when i read the error code it is p0463, which indicates a malfunctioning fuel level sensor. i will reset the light and it will illuminate almost immediately. there was no specific reason for failure other than the part is defective. i would not write concerning this issue, except for the fact that it has become so common that there are internet blogs dedicated to the issue. nissan has issued a recall for the same issue on other similar vehicles like the murano in the same year of production. this defective part needs to be recalled. people rely on their fuel gauges to determine if they have enough gas to make it to their destination and this could possibly leave a motorist stranded in a dangerous or inhospitable situation. *tr

2006 nissan xterra fuel level sensor is malfunctioned. *tr

Fuel gauge not working, sudden onset after fueling the vehicle. *tr

Nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 i own a 2006 nissan xterra that is experiencing the same problems as those described in the above referenced recall. i contacted nissan, but they informed me that my vehicle is not a part of the recall and that they cannot reimburse me for repairs; they also informed me that other 2006 nissan xterra owners are experiencing the same problem and that they, like me, do not own vehicles subject to the recall. the recall needs to be expanded to include those vehicles. *tr

Fuel level sensor fails sometimes showing tank empty, 1/4 full, or reads correctly and the obdc system issues a "check engine" code.. this is a known and common problem with nissan vehicles. nissan has only issued a recall for cases where the sensor stops working and does not generate a "check engine" code. *tr

Fuel sensor level doesn't work at 50k miles in a 2006 nissan xterra. problem seems to be widespread. *tr

1. malfunctioning part that nissan is fully aware of (issued a recall of fuel sending unit of several suv's including the xterra) but others that are having the same issues but not part of the recall campaign are not getting replacements covered by nissan. 2. occurs more often than not now; fuel gauge reporting erratic, needle randomly moves, check engine light illuminated. 3. as of right now, a complaint has been filed with nissan corp, to which they do not respond, or seem to have any intention for replacing or reimbursing those customers who have documented failures as described in the recall campaign. i have not purchased a new unit to this date. *tr
