Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2006 Nissan Xterra

I have a 2006 nissan xterra purchased this vehicle in sept of 08 since dec of 08 the check engine light came on and my gas gauge always marks empty i can never tell how much gas i have i called the dealer and they said that the extended warranty i have does not cover this and for them to check it will cost me 120.00 plus another 600.00 to repair. *tr

I have an 2006 nissan xterra with 47,402 miles and i filled up and noticed my gas gage showed my tank completely empty!! of course my ses light came on. i went to the nissan dealer this morning and they told me that i am out of my warranty and it will cost $500.00-$600.00 to fix. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600." *tr

I have a 2006 nissan xterra and the fuel gauge isn't reading after we fill the tank up. the service engine soon light keeps appearing also. we have been doing some research to try to find out what the problem is and we discovered that is a very common problem in 05/06 models and the manufacturer isn't covering it. *tr

i'm having a problem with my 2006 xterra. i fill my gas tank, the gauge falls to the bottom and the light comes on, at about a half a tank of gas the needle moves to a full tank, ..my gas needle is not working.... *tr

I filled up my 2006 nissan xterra with gas last night and now the gas gauge only goes up to 3/4 tank and the service engine light is on. the vehicle only has 24,000 miles on it and i have read that this is a common problem with several nissan models dating back several years. i purchased my nissan xterra from niles in key west fl and have had zero problems with it until now. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan xterra. at about 55k miles the fuel gauge would read empty at anything under a 1/2 tank of fuel. my service engine soon light stays on constantly, and my tire pressure light stays on as well, even after i've just filled the tires to their required psi. once i fill my tank, my fuel gauge won't automatically return to full, but will rise after i've been driving. *tr

Gas sending unit is failing. vehicle idles roughly, and service engine light is on. gas gauge takes forever to show full tank after fill up. this vehicle is not covered under warranty and the dealer is charging $700 to fix it. *tr

I drive a 2005 xterra off-road - it seems as if my fuel level sensor is acting up - from what i read at other forums, this is a continuous problem with xterra, pathfinders, frontiers. i was wandering if nissan will have a recall for this problem. *tr

My gas gauge was reading empty, so i went and filled up the tank and started the car and the gauge was still reading empty and then after a day or so the check engine light cane on. i asked a mechanic why the light was coming on and he replied the fuel level sending unit. the car is a 2006 and i have only had it 2 years this type of problem should not be happening, not to mention the $500.00 fee to repair this problem! *tr

Fuel level/sending unit failure, worked fine until fill up and then would no longer read the level of fuel in the take after the fill up was complete. purchased $85 part from nissan and with help dropped a full fuel tank down enough to get the defective unit out and replace it with new unit. no nissan did not tell me about this and no they did not help me either. *tr

Fuel gauge gives incorrect readings, sometimes reads high, sometimes reads low, sometimes goes all the way to empty after filling the tank and at random times. if this was a recall for the 1st generation xterra, it should be a recall for the 2nd generation as well. *tr

My 2006 xterra fuel gauge won't move even i filled up the tank from 1/4 of tank. *tr

I purchased this xterra in may of 2006. in the past 8 weeks i have had to have my 06 nissan xterra towed to the dealer six times for the same issue of not starting. the first time i was told i was out of gas. since then, i've been told the security module had gone bad, i had corrosion on the battery terminal causing it to go in to stolen mode, the fuel pump had gone bad (replaced twice), and the wiring harness to the fuel pump had a short in it (replaced twice). the dealer says they have not been able to replicate the problem and want to give me my car back without actually finding out the real issue. this is my family vehicle and i do not do any towing or off-road with it. prior to these issues, my transmission went out at 11k miles and left me stranded on the side of an interstate for over 3 hours while i waited for a tow truck, and have had to have the fuel gauge sensor, catalytic converter, and tire pressure sensors replaced. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact dispensed fuel into the fuel tank to the full capacity level. he observed the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the fuel sending unit was replaced. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxiliary tank). however, the vin was excluded from the recall defect. the failure mileage was approximately 38,000.

My 2006 xterra fuel gauge will not rise when i fill the tank. after driving a few miles after the fill up the needle drops to empty and fuel light comes on. then the next time i start my truck the service engine light comes on and stays on until my fuel tank is below half full. *tr

Gas gage is wrong - always -- and check engine light is always on. i found out it's going to cost me over $400 to fix this issue. too many others with the same complaint. *tr

The gas gauge in our 2006 nissan x-terra has stopped working and is causing our check engine light to come on. if there is a full tank of gas, the gauge is on empty and the light comes on. it gradually comes back up but never goes above 3/4 full tank. we were quoted $800 to fix it because of the way the sensor has to be replaced. *tr

I turned on my 2006 nissan xterra the other day and saw my check engine light was on. i knew this was clearly wrong as i just had my car serviced. two days later i turned on my car and the gas gauge quit working completely. it fluctuates up and down. i went on the internet and researched this and found this to be a problem in many nissan's. this clearly is a defect that should be dealt with. it costs between $300 and $600 to fix and loyal nissan owners should not be penalized for nissan's mismanagement. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan xterra. the problem is with the fuel indicator. it does not drop below the 1/2 full mark, indicating that i have run out of gas. i have reported this problem twice and they have stated that they have fixed the problem. for a third time, i have run out of gas, while the indicator says that i have almost half a tank. i have reported the problem gain and was told to bring the vehicle in to have it looked at again. my vehicle came with a 36k mile warranty which has now expired since i am at 38k. *tr

Vehicle had less than 1/4 tank of gas and i stopped to fill up. driving away from the pump, i noticed my fuel gauge still said under 1/4, and about a mile down the road my check engine light came on. i stopped at a autozone and checked the code (fuel sending unit failure) the xterra had 45k miles when this occurred. *tr

Recently, my gas gauge read 1/4. i went to the gas station to fill up and after i filled up the tank, the gas gauge still read 1/4 and the "service engine soon" light came on. it approximately took an hour for the fuel gauge to read a full tank. since then, the light stays on all the time. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan xterra. every time i fill my gas tank the gas gauge drops to the bottom and the light comes on. after cranking the check engine soon light comes on. after driving a short ways the gauge gradually begins to move back up to the top. after several driving trips the check engine soon light will turn itself off. this happens each time i fill my tank whether the tank is 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, or empty. *tr

Check engine light is on. when code is checked, it says defective fuel sending unit. the fuel gas does not work either. as i search for repairs or parts on the internet, i discovered this is a massive problem affecting thousands of nissan vehicles over many years' models. *tr

The fuel gauge suddenly quit working on my 07 nissan xterra, causing my engine light to come on at app. 45,000 miles. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. when the fuel tank is filled to its capacity within 3 miles the fuel gage indicated that the vehicle has no fuel and the check engine light is illuminated. when the engine was shut off, the fuel gage indicated the correct amount of fuel. since the failure has occurred, the contact has to restart the vehicle for the correct fuel gage reading. the vehicle is being diagnosed by the dealer. the vin is unavailable. the current and failure mileages were 41,000.

2006 nissan xterra - bad fuel gauge sensor. service engine light always on - when gas tank is filled the gas gauge goes to empty, as the gas is used the gauge slowly shows gas in the tank, the service engine light never goes off. nissan dealer wants over $500 to fix. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel level gauge would sporadically read inaccurate fuel levels. when the fuel tank was full, the fuel level gauge would read the tank as empty or half full. the contact stated he had run out of gasoline and stalled several times due to the failure. the dealer advised the failure coincided with nhtsa campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: auxillary tank) but did not confirm if his vehicle was included in the recall. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 32,000 and the current mileage was 52,000.

2006 nissan xterra off-road fuel gauge no longer accurately reflects the actual fuel level in the gas tank. after a full tank of fuel, only goes to 3/4 level on fuel gauge low fuel light indicator no longer works either fuel level does not go below 1/4 level, even when actual fuel level is almost empty. *tr

At approximately 38,000 miles, 1.5 years into ownership of a 2006 nissan xterra, fuel gauge stopped reading fuel level. petaluma, ca nissan dealership indicated a faulty fuel sensor not under warranty would cost $400-600 to repair. not repaired to date. internet search shows thousands of similar faults on 06-08 nissan suvs. *tr

after filling the vehicle with fuel the gas gauge failed to properly read the correct amount of fuel in the vehicle after filling the tank all the way the gauge stayed at the half full mark and remained there the vehicle was giving the nissan technician a code reading of 0463 ( fuel level sensor high input) when i went to the dealer i was told this problem was wide spread with one or two xterra trucks a day coming in for this problem at this dealer alone i was told today by nissan customer service nissan will not have a full recall done for this problem saying it is vin specific but obviously it is not a vin specific problem and i asked for reimbursement for the repair but nissan refused to do anything for me. *tr

Nissan 2006 xterra with approx 40k miles. after filling car with gas, the fuel gauge goes all the way to empty, then the check engine light comes one. the fuel level will gradually go back up to about 3/4 and will descend properly, but then subsequent refills cause the same problem. diagnostic code is 0463. many other people having the same problem with nissan trucks and 4x4's. dealers want between $450 - 600 dollars to replace this! since it is part of fuels system level it should be covered as emissions related, right? my car will now not pass the emissions inspection. *tr

Fuel gauge did not go to "full" level after putting gas in the tank and later the service engine light came on. *tr

Gas gauge does not work properly reads empty all the time seems to be an ongoing problem with two models of nissans. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan xterra that has a fuel sensor problem. when i went to fill up my tank with gas last time, my gas gauge won't go above a 1/4 tank and the service engine soon light comes on. my vehicle currently has 39,000 miles on it. i did some research and found this is happening to many other owners of the nissan xterra's and pathfinder. *tr

Faulty fuel level sending unit on a 2006 nissan xtera.. fuel gauge will indicate a low fuel level, and upon filling with fuel , gauge will remain at low level. after a few miles gauge will begin to move until reaching proper level and then operate correctly until next required fill up. check engine light comes on to indicate problem and service person says sending unit needs to be replaced. this is a common problem with xteras and is not covered by warranty. it seems common enough that this faulty part is a bad design and should be recalled. *tr

The fuel sensor on my 2006 nissan xterra failed. so i cannot tell how much fuel i have in my vehicle. after reading several online blogs this is an issue that affects many nissan vehicles. however there is no recall because its not safety related. perhaps being a single mom getting stranded on the road because i cannot tell how much fuel i have should be a safety concern. it doesn't hurt to file a complaint i assume. *tr
