Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2005 Nissan Altima

Got 2005 nissan altima 2.5 s, recently came to find out that my car has a feet sized rust holes showing floor carpet beneath driver and passenger seats. these rust holes at the bottom of car were not only causing safety risk for people in the car but also sends fumes, carbon monoxide, foul smells, humidity and road noise into the car interior causing health risks. i am very disappointed at quality of nissan's automotive and nissan authorized dealers who never informed about this defect after performing multi point inspections, even when my car was within extended warrranty period. i really hope to get justification.

Floor rusting out on front driver & passenger side. broken frame in rear. just bought car. upon fixing floor on driver side, discovered larger hole on passenger side. thought issue in back was suspension, but but upon inspection broken frame.

Saw something hanging from under the car. got on my knees to see, and found a loose piece of metal about 4 inches square. googled 2005 altima rusted floor iboards, and found out i have the same problem as many others. upon further investigation i saw rusted hole in floorboards

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact purchased the vehicle used from a private owner. upon purchasing the vehicle, the contact noticed a hole on the bottom of the driver's side floor. the contact called luther nissan of inver grove (1470 50th st e, inver grove heights, mn 55077, 952-479-4974) and was informed that this was a known failure. the contact was informed that there was a repair kit to remedy the failure and was provided a repair estimate of $300. the contact refused to pay for the kit. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not under warranty. the manufacturer offered no further assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 203,000. the vin was unknown.

There is corrosion and rusting underneath the body of the car on both the passenger and driver side. i am not the only person who has this issue with this car.

Rusted floor panel driver side so far.

Floorboards/undercarriage of vehicle under front driver and passenger seats is rotted/rusted away all the way through to the carpet. vehicle has been maintained to the highest standards all of its years and now vehicle is unsafe due to poor manufacturing practice. appears occupants of the front seats could at some point fall through.

2005 altima 2.5sl, 150000 miles. the passenger side floorboard was sagging, so i looked under the car and it was gone. the floorboard had rusted itself away and the seat is at risk of falling off in a car accident. it has rusted more than any car of its age. i bought the car used and realised this not a year after.

Underneath the floor boards on both sides are rusting out. the drivers side is especially bad. i have owned the car since it was new but just recently noticed this problem. also the paint ont the hood, top and exterior review mirrors has faded. otherwise the car seems to be in good shape. it has 119,560 miles on it and i planned on using it for a while longer. we have owned a total of 5 nissans beginning in in 1989 and all have been good vehicles. we are currently leasing a rogue. i am hoping that nissan will take care of this problem. even though i have been a loyal nissan owner for many years i'm not past changing brands, and will when this lease is up if they can't do something about these floor boards at the very least. i feel that this could cause issues in a number of ways. one is exhaust fumes entering the car, another would be objects from the road flying up through the floor and injuring the driver or passenger.

The floor panel on the front, driver and passenger side got rust and growing a hole.

There is a hole on the driver's side floor pan from the rust. this was not know until mechanic showed me.

Upon inspection prior to trying to privately sell my car, it was found that the floorboards were rusting out and there are actual hole on the underside of the car. apparently, upon me googling, this is a known design issue (rather than normal wear and tear) for nissans between 2002-2006. to fix the car will cost me more than it is worth. not only that, but holes in the floorboards are also a huge safety concern.

Hole on passenger side due to rust/corrosion

I had a big hole on my passenger side as well as driver side on floor. my passenger airbag lights on. if anyone can help me out that will be so useful for me. please take an action as soon as possible. thanks.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while the vehicle was stationary, the frame became severely rusted and corroded. the contact stated that the rear suspension (crossmember) was filled with holes and the vehicle failed to pass state inspection. freedom nissan of south burlington (1095 shelburne road, south burlington, vermont 05403) was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case numbers: 28264107 and 3338700. the contact referenced the manufacturer's service bulletin number: p5216 (reference number: ntb05-114c (subframe)) warranty replacement, but the vehicle was not included. the failure mileage was 145,000.

Floor boards drivers and passengers completely rusted threw. the rest of the car has no rust. has been noted many times in 2002 to 2006 altima's even a class action lawsuit filed against them. this is dangerous as there is a hole threw to the ground right under you feet when you are driving.

I am the original owner of 2005 nissan altima 2.5sl, paid $25000 and i also bought extended warranty on this vehicle, always serviced by nissan dealer,i do have all the records of dealer visit .no body mentioned me up to now that there is a heavy rust under driver side.i have only 83000 miles on this car and always kept in garage.i went to nissan dealer and they are asking $2500 to fix this issue,i am feeling unsafe to drive, i do see that every one have same issue.this is the biggest safety issue, i need your help for this recall as soon as possible.passenger side have same issue too. now i do have a big hole under my carpet. my wife don't. want to drive and i am also scared to drive.

I own a 2005 nissan altima and both front driver and passenger floor boards rusted through totally. would not pass pa. inspection. per my mechanic rusted because how nissan routes the drain hose for the air conditioner cause the premature/unsafe holes. it was very dangerous to ride in the car, to where injury was certain. took to auto body shop and they also said the same cause for the rusted out floor boards. my nissan altima wasn't the first nissan altima they replaced the floor boards. again they stated very dangerous to operate this car! it cost me $528.94 for this repair! i want reimbursed! i only included the passenger picture of floor board due to size allowed to download. the driver side just as bad!

Reporting rotting floorboard on my 2005 nissan altima. it's a possible safety concern as vapors could enter passenger area. this seems to be a design flaw and would hope nissan as a self proclaimed top safety pick would stand behind this issue i believe there have been many complaints on this floorboard issue. please advise.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the exterior front driver side door handle fractured and prevented the contact from entering the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Driver & passenger side floorboards rusted through resulting in: 1. increased road noise 2. air entering vehicle while driving 3. water entering the vehicle, and soaking the carpeting in rain storms, etc possibly creating mold 4. easy access for rodents/vermin

I started leasing my altima in 2008 and purchased the car about 4 years later. i took it to have my muffler checked, because i heard noise, and it was found that the floorboard on the front , passenger side, is completely rusted out. the only thing between my passengers and the street is the carpet. nissan said there is no recall. the car is only 11 years old!

My 2005 nissan altima has major rusting on the passenger side of the vehicle. this was found after the carpet on the inside of the car started falling through the floorboard. this issue almost had my wife's foot through the floor, without her knowing. this has been reported (via research and reports on the news) to both nissan and nhtsa and both state it is not a safety issue. how is this not a safety issue if you don't know about it and you could put your foot through the floor?

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the front driver and passenger side floorboard was extremely corroded. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. the contact was informed that the manufacturer was not responsible for repairing the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Rusting floorboards, front, both drivers and passengers side

Driver side floor board rusted through.

My altima is well maintained car bought all new from nissan dealership. state of pennsylvania needs state inspection done every year and this year my altima failed safety inspection. meaning, my car is deemed not safe to drive on the street because of nissan altima's design flaw making floor-board behind front wheels go rusted. i use the car to commute everyday to work, unknowingly exposing myself to unforeseen danger. nissan should have addressed this common issue happening to many other consumers before any life threatening incident occur to their so called "customers".

My 2005 nissan altima passenger side floorboard has rusted through. after speaking with a local welding shop i discovered that this is a "typical" issue with older nissan's. they informed me they have seen this on about 6 nissan's in my area. i feel even if a recall has not been called, i should have been informed somehow of the potential issue. there seems to be a design flaw as this is not just a rare occurrence. my vehicle has just under 107,000 miles and i am baffled how the other body areas show no signs of rust with the exception of one area of floorboard. i am not providing a photo as this has been reported nationally for some time now and it doesn't appear anything will be done about it. you can google "nissan floorboard rust" if you need a visual.

Sorry for my belated complaint. i just learned of your website. early evening aug 18, 2016 entire rear window of my 2005 nissan altima completely blew out for no apparent reason. fortunately -- nobody was sitting in back seat(s) of my car - no adults & no children !! what a big mess !! a clear & normal summer evening - no severe weather conditions to even provoke a crazy & sudden incident like this. luckily -- i was not on a highway. i was on a quiet suburban road with relatively low traffic. i was at stop light & suddenly heard a loud pop sound -- almost like a gun shot. i checked my rear view mirror & my entire car rear window was blown out with very large holes & tiny shattered glass pieces strewn all over inside back seat area of my car. some shattered glass even blew out all way to front section where i was seated !! i immediately got off the road & pulled over into nearby walgreens parking lot & called local police. policeman came & examined my car. he did not feel any foul play was involved nor any gunshot nor baseball thrown into my rear car window. i took 24 photos ? see 5 uploaded. he helped me gather most of broken & shattered glass into a plastic bag. we noted a few pieces had dark brown burn marks on them. he said most likely it indicated a "short" occurred in rear defroster electrical system. he could not prepare police report bcuz it did not involve any foul play. next day i called nissan consumer affairs (nca). they asked me to email my 24 photos to nca & only agreed to pay to replace rear car window. i told nca it was probably a short in rear defroster electrical system ? a serious nissan safety issue & defect. for me ? a scary incident !! i saved all shattered glass pieces with dark brown burn marks, but nca did not want them. unfortunately -- i can only upload 5 photos. if you want to view all 24 photos - call or text my cell [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Rust through of undercarriage under passenger and driver seats. widely known problem that nissan is aware of but refuses to issue a recall on. the rust occurs from the inside out due to inadequate drainage of water. found out about it just today while getting an oil change.

I purchased a used 2005 nissan altima - only to find my passenger floor near the door is rotted/rusted out!! i do not have money to spend thousands to repair this. why isn't there a recall? i have seen many many posts on the matter but unfortunately only after i bought the car!

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while the vehicle was parked on an incline, the contact observed that the floorboard on the front passenger side was corroding through and a hole was forming. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 137,000.

The drivers side floor board is rusted through. this is a known problem and a safety issue not to mention you can smell exhaust fumes. nissanproblems, com says: "a class-action lawsuit filed in the northern district of illinois" but nissan is turning their back saying this is not a defect.

We noticed something hanging down from under passenger side and found that both sides of the floorboard are comepletely rusted out with big holes in the floor!! we have a 2005 nissan altima. we called a body shop and they said it would cost over $2000 to fix. how is this not a recall and safety issue?? nissan do you not care about your customers safety?? we were gonna buy another nissan maybe a nissan rogue but if this is how they(nissan) take care of their owners then im not so sure!! step up nissan and do the right thing!!!!!

Saw something hanging down underneath driver side floor board. took in for oil change and was told both front floor pans rusted through and carpet showing underneath car.

Brought my 2005 nissan altima to mechanic for service. he noticed both driver side and passenger side floorboards rotted out. each side has a 6" - 8" wide x ~18" long rectangular hole in the floorboard underneath the carpet. you are able to push up on the carpet from underneath the vehicle on both sides. the only thing separating the driver or passenger's feet from the road in these areas is the carpeting.

I just noticed my floorboard is rusted on the passenger side. i didn't notice this until maybe a couple weeks ago when a part of the rug t j at covers it came apart and when i looked through i can see the ground.

I noticed something hanging down under the vehicle directly under the drivers side. i had a neighbor who is a mechanic look under the car. he told me that the under carriage floor board was completely rusted through and was so bad it would be dangerous to continue driving it. i can't afford the repair. what can i do?

Floor panels rusting completely through. tire mechanic noted that "driver foot well has rusted through and carpet is visible on underside of vehicle". internet search strongly suggests that this is a design flaw in the water drainage system of altimas made during this time frame (as you are aware). car runs beautifully otherwise, but i have to believe that having the carpet visible from underneath is a safety issue that should be addressed by nissan.

The floor boards on both the driver side and passenger side have rotted out. we discovered this problem when my wife accidentally pushed her foot through the floor while driving 70 miles per hour on the highway. fortunately she wasn't hurt. judging by the extent of the rust, this has likely been an unknown issue since before i bought it 3 years ago. i would guess that it was significantly rusted well before 100k miles.

Deeply rotting floor board under passenger side. 2005 nissan altima with only 83000 miles.

Floor under the passenger seat rotted out, hole exposed to the outside.

There is a rust/corrosion hole in the floorboard below the drivers feet. i'm sure it has been there for a while but i just noticed it recently because i saw a piece of the floor dangling below the car.

My front floorboards rotted out resulting in a safety issue and a $1,200 repair bill. it was discovered at a rhode island state inspection.

The carpet on the driver side was wet after some heavy snow & rain involved this year. upon looking underneath, the floor pan was rusting out. the driver side and passenger side both have big holes underneath. right now, there is nothing protecting my feet from the concrete ground expect for a flimsy carpet since the rust has taken all of the structural support.

2005 nissan altima at recent annual safety inspection my mechanic informed me that the underside of my altima had severe rust/corrosion eating away at the frame and floorboards. it was bad enough that he had to call his service manager to understand what to do or was the car deemed safe to continue to drive. eventually the floorboards will fail, anyone know if this is normal for 2005 nissan altimas?

Floorboards are rotting out. the vehicle has 120,000 miles on it. very dangerous to have a foot push through and even undermine body integrity of the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the front passenger side floorboard was corroded. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 110,000.

Front floor boards rusted out both sides. set a battery on floor board and it made floor cave in. i looked under car and half of the rusty floor board pieces fell on my driveway. no rust anywhere else on vehicle. this not safe and needs to be fixed.

My car has a severe floor rust problem. specifically passenger side floor has big whole and mechanic suggested you may have your feet on road while driving. i just had a baby and i am really scared about this car. nissan sucks big time. i will never buy nissan again until and unless they own up the problem.
