I took my car in for routine maintenance (oil change), an hour later i was notified from the mechanic with photos of the undercarriage of my 2005 nissan altima ser ((((shocked))). he said the floor pans were completely rusted out. explaining this further, he said he could put a screwdriver through the rusted area into the carpet on the passenger side and that it was almost to that same point on the driver side. i contacted nissan and was told my vehicle was over mileage and out of warranty. my mechanic said this car is unsafe to operate and gave me some options to fix my car......unreal and costly!!!! this issue is extremely scary to think that the floor pans could rust out at any time and cause senseless fatalities. i further investigated and after viewing online complaints was disturbed to se this is a worldwide issue. this issue should be recalled and fixed by nissan immediately. *tr

Floor boards are getting rusty per state inspection. *tr

The floor pan for my nissan altima have rusted out making it dangerous. after spending 5 mins on the internet, i learned this is very common, affecting 1,000's of 2005 altimas. it is always in the same spot and nissan refusing to acknowledge poor craftsmanship and defective product. holes allow exhaust fumes into my car, making dangerous for my children to ride in car. totally unacceptable. *tr

We noticed rust colored stains on the garage floor where my car is parked, so my husband jacked up the car and saw a huge rusted area in the front passenger side floorboard. it was so badly corroded that he easily put his foot through it! we bought our 2005 altima new in 12/2004 and it only has 81k miles on it. the car has always been garaged and washed and detailed regularly. apparently we are not alone based on what we've read online. a nine year old car should not have rusted out like that! *tr

During a routine tire rotation, my mechanic noticed that both of my floor boards are rusted through. i have only owned this car for two years. i have seen several complaints on the same issue from other people. *tr

Floorpan on this vehicle is completely rusting through! car has less than 100k miles on it and was a car-fax one owner! *tr

Pans on the underside of car are rotting out

After reading some blogs about people discussing nissan altima floorboard rust issues, i checked my 2005 altima ser and noticed that both the driver and passenger side floorboards are rusted through. this vehicle has been parked in a garage and has been well maintained. it appears that numerous people have reported this problem to nhtsa and to nissan but nissan has not issued a recall. this is a safety issue because exhaust fumes can enter the cabin. *tr

The floor boards have rusted through on the passenger side. there is no rust anywhere else on the vehicle but is through the floor. there are many issues reported for this issue and it stems from a design flaw that leaves an open area between 2 plates on e floor boards such that rust will inevitably form in an environment that has winter. upon asking for assistance from nissan they acknowledged that they understood my concern but they would be able to help because the vehicle opus outside of warranty. it is completely unacceptable that they will not fix their design flaw that poses a safety issue (fumes may enter the cabin) because of the warranty period. the rust clearly formed many years ago but was not recognized while the warranty was still valid. *tr

Undercarriage rust (2005 altima 3.5 se) - thankfully i went to get my oil changed at a new place where they use a lift versus just servicing from underneath the service deck.once the car was raised, the mechanic noticed my passenger side floor board was completely rusted through!! my uncle had just told me he experienced the same thing with his 2004 maxima. after searching the internet, this is a very common problem for us nissan owners. i find it so hard to believe nissan will not issue a recall for this known problem. how can the cars not have any rust anywhere else, but specific passenger and/or driver undercarriage areas?? what a safety hazard! please take responsibility nissan and do the right thing!! *tr

Rusted floorboards. *tr

Took car for state inspection only to find out that my drivers side floor board is completely rusted through to the carpet. this is a serious safety issue nissan should have addressed a long time ago. *tr

I own a 2005 nissan altima se-r the car has a clean carfax and i purchased this vehicle used form the local nissan dealer with 15,000 miles. i am a automotive technician and noticed about 8 months ago while performing a routine oil change vehicle had around 101,000 miles that there was 2 rusted spots underneath the front of the vehicle where the front passengers floor boards are the floor board was cracked slightly. i took note of it and continued on my way. well i just performed my routine oil change now have 105,000 miles on the vehicle and again noticed those same 2 rust spots are now rotted with a hole about the size of a soda can, there is nothing i can do to prevent this from happening also note that the part of the undercarriage that is rotting was treated from the dealer with a coating to prevent this from occurring. obviously this should be a defect from the dealer and should be recalled as it will continue to rot the passenger floor out of the vehicle. anyone with a 2002-2006 altima should have there vehicle checked for this as there have been numerous complaints about this over the internet. contact the nissan cooperation and complain we together should be able to get this recalled. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the floorboards were rusted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was confirmed. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 74,000.

Floor board on passenger side front has rusted severely. my car has been in for service to hoffman nissan in west simsbury ct at least twice every year and they never mentioned a problem. this is now a safety issue. i was made aware of the rust after i had an oil change at the local garage who recommended an auto body shop down the road. i had the auto body shop look at it today 8/28/13. they told me that this problem has been ongoing for 3 to 5 years. they told me that every time it was put on a lift it was obvious. what do they look at for safety?? every visit for scheduled maintenance i am told that i need additional work - always over $500 worth. i am convinced this was is a defect that should have been taken care of years ago. how many repairs did i approve that didn't really need to be done. sad to say that i will never again trust the hoffman dealership. the consumer stated the dealer has done an amazing job at trying to resolve the floorboard rust board. the dealer and the consumer came to an amicable agreement on the repair of the floorboard. *tt

The front passenger side floor panel rusted completely through from the inside out. large gaping hole underneath the carpet. vehicle has been garaged since new. weather conditions during winter months have been mild. vehicle was pa inspected december 2012 and passed then . defective structural sheetmetal steel. other similar complaints on record through nhtsa. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle's floorboards were rusted out on both the front passenger and driver sides. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.

The floor-boards on the 2005 nissan altima are clearly defective. this vehicle has been garaged ever since day one, and has been taken care of extensively. two giant rust holes on the driver and front passenger floor-boards have developed due to poor materials and design. this is a serious safety concern and shouldn't be overlooked. the rust affects the vehicles crash tolerance, and structural integrity. nissan should be held responsible, and should issue a recall to fix the defective floorboards. *tr

There is a rust hole on the passenger side and the carpet is lowering down. i am not sure how to get it fixed. seems like many other have the similar issue. *tr

Rusting floorboards

Took my altima in for service and mechanic informed me and showed me that both passenger and driver floor boards have rusted through. *tr

1. precat failure which led to needing of a complete long block replacement. @ 49875 miles 2. clutch pedal assembly caused premature clutch failure and replacement of manual transmission.@ 94571 miles 3. passenger side floor has completely rotted thru!!!! @ 100000 miles, this cuts the cake! car is junk!

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the front driver side floorboard was rusted and fractured. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the floorboard needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred on the front passenger side floorboard. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

Went to get an oil changed and when completed the technician told me there was corrosion and rust in the floor under the passenger and driver side of the vehicle. after inspecting it, the floor board seems to be completely rotted/rusted through and you can see the inside of the car. he told me that it's wear and tear and maybe an autobody shop can fix it or i should trade in as soon as possible. this seems to be a design flaw and a very big safety issue. this is a body defect that needs to be addressed. why doesn't nissan realize this is not just one case. *tr

I just noticed that floorboard are extremely rusted and rotted. i probably not noticed and this has happened long time ago since rust is that deep. need help. *tr

Went to get an oil change today for car and when the car was on the lift i had noticed some discoloring in the floor under the passenger and driver side of the vehicle. after inspecting it, the floor board seems to be completely rotted/rusted through and you can see the inside of the car. this seems to be a very big safety issue. exhaust fumes can enter the car while in park or stopped. a foot can go through the floor and cause a very dangerous situation. this is a body defect that needs to be addressed. *tr

Car was bought in utah and used in utah and colorado mainly. the driver side floor pan is rusted through and needs fixing / replacement. this is a structural safety issue. car is less than 10yrs old and shouldn't show this issue this early. *tr

2005 nissan altima floor boards have rusted through which can lead to exhaust fumes entering the car, a safety issue. the floor panels should not rust completely through in 9 years. while living in new england does expose the car to salt, i would go through the car wash on a regular basis. during a routine oil change, i was informed the car would not pass inspection and that there were holes in the floorboard. i took photos documenting the issue. the rest of the undercarriage is in good shape but the area under the floor boards is completely bowed out and eaten through. this is shoddy materials and (lack of) craftmanship. i have seen many other similar issues posted to the database and wanted to lodge a complaint as part of my claim to nissan. i have also replaced the oil pan which is also quite prone to rusting quickly. *tr

Rust holes in driver and passenger floor boards due to design flaw. *tr

During my ri state inspection today, i was notified that my driver side floor board was completed rotted through. my car will not pass inspection without fixing that. the car is only 8 years old so having that much rot is very unusual. will nissan repair this damage or reimburse me for the cost of repair? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for an unrelated issue and they noticed there was a hole covered with rust on the front passenger's side floorboard. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 99,817.

Both the drivers side and passenger side floor pans have rotted through. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the front passenger side floorboard was corroded. in addition, when the brake pedal was depressed, there was an abnormal noise. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 91,279.

I have rust holes in the floor panel of my 2005 altima. it will not pass inspection and while driving the hole is big enough that i can feel it under my foot through the carpet. i talked to my mechanic about a fix and he said he has done about 8-10 of these cars for the exact same problem. looking online, this is a common flaw that many altima owners have and it is an incredible safety concern. there should be a class action suit against nissan based on the responses they are giving people who are asking them for help with the repair. *tr

Floorboards on nissan completely rusted from outside in. carpeting inside of car still looks like new. numerous complaints on vehicles of this year, but nissan consumer complaints will not cover cost of repair. purchased the car new in may 2006 - was 2005 model. summer 2009 put a bike hitch on car and muffler bolts were rusted but underside of car still looked great. muffler still on the car, but floorboards completely rusted through. almost $2000 to repair. car was never in accident, never in flood and always cleaned and maintained. i found a piece, almost a sheet of rust on the floor of my garage. undercoating on the piece was still there, but rust couldn't hold it together any longer. when pointed out what this actually was shocked. feet on the pavement when driving was the next step. see video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi7f1efhb00. *tr

Nissan is garage kept with no rust on vehicle. muffler on since 2006 and floorboards completely rusted through - muffler still good. contacted nissan consumer affairs and they would not cover. paid dealer $1755 to repair since cheaper than new car and will drive until wheels fall off. since no injuries yet, is this the reason nothing is being done. seems to be many complaints on altima from 2003-2006. check out youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi7f1efhb00. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the frame was rusted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed the failure. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 90090. upated 09/17/13*lj

Brought my vehicle in for state inspection to local nissan dealership and was told the floor boards were too soft to pass inspection. inspected the vehicle more closely myself and noticed the floor boards had been rotting. the vehicle only has 85k on it. heard this is a major problems with a lot of nissan altimas and felt i should report this since nissan has done little or nothing to fix the problem which is a major safety hazard since i'm not one of the flintstones. *tr

Noticed floor pan on passenger side of my 2005 altima has rusted out. the hole is clean through to the inside of car. approximate 8" hole. *tr

The floor boards on my car are rusted through. i have had it estimated at multiple auto body shops and they knew before seeing the car that it was a nissan. i did lots of online research and it is a common problem and defect with the nissans. i also saw that after filing this complaint with nhtsa, that some customers had this problem repaired by nissan at no cost. this is a widespread safety issue and nissan should take responsibility for this problem. this car is garaged and regularly washed. *tr

I have a 2005 altima with 49500 miles. when i recently got new tires, it was discovered that the front passenger seat floorboard was completely rusted. this is a safety issue, whether its fumes getting into the car or debris from the floorboard falling in the road. i contacted nissan national and they sent me to a nissan dealership to get an estimate and have it sent to nissan national. nissan national said my issue would go to nissan consumer review, who decided the floorboard rusting out was environmental. are car owners in wintry states forewarned that if they have a nissan the floorboards might rust out? my car is clean with no other rust. *tr

The floor boards are rusted through on my 2005 nissan altima. *tr

I have nissan altima 2005. i took my car to get inspected and it failed due to rust and rotting under the car. nissan, does not repair this. in doing research i have found numerous of individuals online with the same problem with models from 02 - 06. all of japanese cars will have this problem. i had my car from 05 brand new, i'm the only owner with no accidents. i think nissan should do a recall on all cars with this problem and fix it. they charge you all this money for cars, they know soon will have this problem, because they don't protect the car with the under coating. shame, shame, shame on nissan!!! *tr
