We have classified the 33 complaints from 2005 Nissan Altima about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Took the car to repair shop for o/c and was told i had slight rust underneath passenger door. was told it should be alright for another inspection. when i went for inspection i was told they couldn't inspect it because the rust had gotten so bad in that same area. i paid close to $500. for repair and was also told by others that it was a common complaint for that year car and that it was a design flaw and has been since changed.car has never been run in the salt and was told it was water getting up inside the are mentioned because of the design flaw and sitting there to cause the rust. was really upset about this considering the car is in fantastic shape .. i think nissan should help for the repairs... i also was told i because it was a safety issue the car didn't have the 10 grace period from registration to inspection , so i did it immediately. *tr
Floor pan on both driver's and passenger's sides has rusted through. both holes approximately 6"x14" in size. can see to the ground under gas flap lever. first noticed at 159000 miles. *tr
2005 nissan altima with 80,000 miles on it. my father took his car into be inspected and they will not pass it because of the floor boards completely rusted out. after researching this online, there are millions of dissatisfied nissan owners who are battling this very problem. now, if my father cannot get his car to pass inspection, he cannot use it. so far, nissan has not done anything to help with his issue. my father has called countless repair and body shops and no one will repair any rust. not even the dealership. the customer service rep at the nissan dealership was nothing more than rude and insensitive but did tell my dad that there have been numerous complaints and repair questions about rusting floor boards. i have seen people call nissan corporate headquarters with the same "sorry" response. nissan is looking at a very large class action lawsuit which i will pursue to the fullest because of their lack of respect for their customers and for their craftmanship, lack of concern, lack of solutions. i hope i am joined by anyone else who is battling this problem, leave your complaint here, and hopefully some help will be coming soon! *tr
Vehicle floor boards have rusted through. this was discovered when i brought the vehicle in for service and was advised by the mechanic not to drive the vehicle as there were 12 inch holes in the floor boards on both the driver's and passenger sides and it was not safe. i filed a complaint with nissan customer service and was informed that they will not provide any assistance in repairing the vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for an unrelated issue where it was informed that the driver's side floor pan was completely rusted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the undercarriage of the vehicle had excessive rust and a hole was developing underneath the driver side floorboard. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 135,000.
I have had the car since new and the floor boards especially on the drivers side have rotted out and my carpet is getting ruined from the wet roads because it has gotten so bad, i am afraid i may fall thru the floor. *tr
Rusted out floor pan on driver side of the car. *tr
The bottom of my 2005 nissan altima is rusting through to the floor boards. there is about a 10 inch round area on the passenger side where there is excessive rust. i am wondering if it is a defect as i even had rust proofing done at the time the car was purchased. the rust proofing may've slowed the progress but couldn't prevent the problem (and the warranty has expired). *tr
My car failed ma inspection because the driver side floor pan is rusted out. the hole is approximately 12 by 10 inches. i found many complaints on the web for the same problem. nissan refuses to take responsibility. nissan claims it is caused by salt in the north east, but if that was true, the entire floor pan would have rust, not just isolated to the front driver side. let me repeat, the rest of the floor pan is flawless, no signs of rust whatsoever. clearly this is a design or manufacturing flaw. some customers have both front sides rusted out. my passenger side is fine as the assembly line "hole" has been properly filled in. i have to assume the driver side was left open. there are many pictures on the web showing earlier phases of this problem showing that the rust started at the assembly line hole. basically, this small hole (1 inch diameter) allows water into the interior. the noise dampening material and carpet soak it up. the wetness goes undetected by the driver because the floor mat has rubber backing, thereby showing no signs of wetness. as with any perpetual metal wetness problem, rust eventually becomes a major problem. please make nissan take ownership of this problem. thank you. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the floorpan was corroded. the dealer stated that the floorboard needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 133,000.
Dropped car off for state inspection. was told the driver side and passenger side floor boards were rusted through. not able to pass inspection because of this safety issue. it allows fumes to enter the car and weakens the floor for possibly putting foot or feet through floor board. definitely a design flaw and safety issue. nissan should pay or help pay for this defect. *tr
My floorboards on my 2005 nissan altima are rotting through on my passenger side. the car has about 70k miles . it is in great condition. i'm worried that my passengers feet may go through the floor. i've owned a few cars and i've never seen floorboards rot like this.it is a known problem....just google it.... i have a 1991 toyota supra that has about 130k miles , drivien i the same conditions and ive never seen this. nissan doesn't want to help. ive tried nissan consumer affairs and they don't care. *tr
On august 18, 2014, after dropping my son off at school. i came to stop at a traffic light and when the light changed, i started to take off and noticed the car has shut down. i eventually made it home with the car going a very low speed and then speed up, but when car to a start the engine stalls. the vehicle was put on a computer to see what the diagnosis were and it was the camshaft sensors and crankshaft sensor costing $80 dollars for two and $70 for another, however these items has been changed along with a tune up and the car is doing the same. after doing some research on the computer, i noticed there were recalls on the crankshaft sensors and the ecm. i contacted nissan dealer, an appointment was made and i was told that my vin number is not showing so the problem had to been done, because i'm the second owner. it's funny how this problem comes about after 4 1/2 years of having this vehicle and the recall suppose to have been taking care of with the first owner. this is an inconvenience and it's frustrating. there is also rusting of the floor under the car, you can see the floor coming down from under the car on the passenger side. this is an outrage and something needs to be done at the cost of the dealers and not the owners. this is dangerous, you can be driving at a speed and the car just stop, which can cause a very bad accident. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the floor board on the driver and passenger sides was severely corroded. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician stated that the vehicle should be deemed totaled. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 73,300.
Yesterday, august 6th 2014 i had a gentleman come up to me with my friends. he told me his wife had the same model nissan altima that i have. he looked under my car and told me, his wife had this same problem of rusting out floor pans under the drivers seat and passenger seat. i called nissan and got a case number, in the meanwhile i had my mechanic look at the car and it is not just rust, there is a hole under the passenger seat. my mechanic said it is a design flaw and it is dangerous! i bought this car from my ex husband's estate. he bought it new from gerald nissan in north aurora, il . he had regular maintenance done on the car. i got it when the mileage was 39,000 miles. i did proceed to have the nissan mechanics look it over to report back to nissan and it is the whole pan covering the bottom of my car, cost $3,000. i listed a consumer complaint, but nissan does not see these. there are numerous complaints on my exact car on this site. i do not think that having my safety threatened by this company's neglect is a laughing matter. i am a real estate broker and use my car for business. this is a dangerous situation and being a corporate entity, they do not feel that they have to account for their errors. i am 68 years old and i want to live. can you help me?
My dashboard is cracking up n i found myself constantly buying glue it wont start even after i done had it serviced. *tr
This car has very little milage only 25000 miles (42000km) and the passanger floor board is rotted out. i believe that this weakens the body integrity of the car. the rest of the car has not rust what so ever. this seems to be a design fault in the car as thier are quite a lot of complaints on floor boards rotteing out on nissan altima 2002 to 2006. i feel nissan should admit to having design problems for having floor boards rotting out prematurely. *tr
Took my car in for state safety inspection and was told the passenger side floor was rusted thru - i couldn't believe it - had to have the repair completed to pass inspection, now reading numerous complaints that it happen to others - nissan needs to rethink the recall on this or reimburse for the repair - not cheap to have done!!!! *tr
Floor boards underneath passenger sides are rotting through...why??!!!!!!!!! *js
2005 nissan altima with 108k. just noticed that both driver and passenger floor boards are gone. rusted all the way through, the only thing there is the carpet backing material showing under the car. this is crazy to have a car with just over 100k and have the steel floor gone. most certainly a safety issue. *tr
Floorboards are completely rotted through on both driver and passenger sides. no rust anywhere else on car. carpet can be seen from underneath of car. my mechanic noticed it while working on car. *tr
I was looking at my car and notice that the floor panels for the passenger and driver are rotted away. after looking at the rest of the car its clear that its not your everyday rust. after doing research online there are hundreds of other people with nissan altima's that have the same problems. how is this not a recall by now. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan altima 2.5s with 127,000 miles. i noticed rust particles on my driveway and inspected the bottom of my car and discovered that the floor boards on the driver and passenger sides have completely rotted/rusted out. this should not be happening on a car that has been properly maintained. this is a safety issue because of the possibility of fumes and the instability of the car's floor. nissan should be held accountable for this defect and should pay for the necessary repairs. *tr
My car failed inspection because the floorboards are rusted out. i was told this is very common problem and nissan needs to have a recall because this is ridiculous. i have never seen a car of this age with the amount of rust it has. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact state during a routine inspection, she was advised by dealer that the floor boards on the driver side and passenger side were completely corroded. the technician stated that floor boards needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact's foot went through the floorboard when he stepped into the vehicle. the dealer determined that the floorboards and floor pans on the vehicle were rusted through. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the floorboards were no longer under warranty. the dealer stated that the entire floorboard needed to be replaced. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 95,000.
Just found out the undercarriage of the car is rusted, after researching the issue, i learn that most nissan altima owners experience this same safety issue! this is extremely dangerous as the inside floor becomes weak and can cave in from the rust if not repaired. repair of this issue is costly and i've read that nissan does not consider this a craftsmanship issue but normal wear and tear. i've never heard of 20th century cars rusting out in this manner, i'm very disappointed in nissan not backing their product!! *tr
My 2005 failed safety inspection because the floor boards are rusted through. there have been several complaints on the issue. every mechanic i brought it to for a quote said there should be a recall. nissan is not willing to help it customers with the repairs. when are you guys going to step in and force nissan to address this safety issue? *tr
Driver side floor rotted out, hole in floor passenger side as well. *tr
I have owned my nissan since 8/2004 purchased it new from nissan 104th federal heights, co. recently i found out the my passenger floorboard had rusted out. nissan told me that it was only warranted for 4 years after that it was my problem. i took it to a collision shop and they said on this year car it never should have happened. i had it repaired for $500. then i found out that there were other cars for nissan altima's from 2004 also that had rusted thru the internet. i would like the money back due to negligence of nissan. also this car has always been repaired by nissan most of the time. what were the mechanics looking at only to spot this issue when the car is 9 years old. *tr
I have a 2005 altima 2.5s. i had the severe driver and passenger side floorboard rust problem. the rust is all the way to the floor mat. a big hole on the driver's side. i called the dealer brought the car for inspection and they send me to nissan north america (800) nissan-1 or 800-647-7261). they've referred me to with nissan regional consumer affairs regarding the rusted out floorboards. i appreciated their "surprise" and "never heard of this before". when i told him it how bad the driver's and passenger side floor rust problem she said they are not doing anything right now with that because it's normal environmental problem. they will not help on the repair and send me to body shop. the replacement/fix of hold floorboard will cost $1700 including parts and labor. i looked my company 1998 mazda truck, it has been driven a lot in muddy roads and snow, and no rust at all under the floorboard. i found there are a lot of complaints on the 2002-2006 nissan altima floorboard rust problem on google, and nissan refused to take a recall for this most complaint problem. this is a design/manufacturing defect that nissan refuses to acknowledge. fyi: http://www.nissanforums.com/general-altima-stanza-discussion/137783-altima-rust-shocker-5.html i served my car many times in nissan dealership, including oil changes and whole car inspection. they never mentioned the floorboard rust problem at all to me until i found it. i do believe this is very dangerous problem for a car driven on the road, especially on the highway, and the floorboard can fall anytime. i really hope this can get an attention for everyone who has 02-06 nissan altima as well. get the car repaired soon to reduce the potential fatality incident. i hope nissan can take the responsibility for that repair. thank you! *tr
I own a 2005 nissan altima with 121,000 miles on it. i am the original owner, this car has been well taken care of and garaged most of its life. i was shocked to find out last week, that while a oil change was being done, that both the drivers side and passenger side floor pans are rusted out. after doing some research, it appears this is a huge problem and nissan is not accepting responsibility for a manufacturing defect. i have had most of the maintenance of this vehicle done at the nissan dealership. never once did they point out this problem, which has been evident for many years based on the damage. i could have made arrangements to fix this sooner. it is a huge safety problem in my opinion. i do not feel it is safe for my family members to drive due to fumes and the instability of the floor. i am in disbelief nissan has not been held accountable. i do have pictures if anyone would be interested in seeing them. *tr
Front passenger side floor board is rusting out badly with a big hole in the floor.i am worried that either someone's feet will fall through floor or there could be a case of carbon monoxide poison. i contacted nissan headquarters and mastria nissan dealer on 5-30-14 and was told," there is no recall on this, so they will not fix this issue".the dealer did say," they have heard about this issue on many altimas and have fixed it in the past for a cost of $755.00 per floor panel".i told them," if you know about this issue, why should i pay to fix it." *tr
I contacted nissan usa to try and get them to open an investigation for the floor boards rotting away in my car. did some research online and found out that i am not alone in my problem with the floor boards. numerous people online with 2002-2006 nissan altima have the same problem where there is a snow covered winter. the women that answered the phone from nissan usa was very polite took my information and looked into what i would have to do next to start things off. she told me that i would need to have the vehicle diagnosed by my local dealer. so i made the appointment. a few days later had my estimate for repairs which is one thousand dollars plus tax. i called nissan usa back and she politely filled in the details of the repair and instructed me i will be getting a call from a regional specialist. a few days later get a call from said specialist only to find out that they will not help me because my car no longer has warranty coverage. i explained that i want to have this investigated as the floor boards of a car that is built in 2005 no matter what should not resemble a 1960 chevy floor boards. again was just told there is nothing nissan is able to do i have no warranty. this is a safety issue as the floor boards that are rotting away are directly where you feet are in the front seats. please look into this as it is an issue for i am sure thousands of nissan owners. *tr
After hearing a suspicious noise on the driver's floor, i checked underneath. the driver's side appeared to be ok, but pushing down on the carpeting you can feel the damaged metal. underside the front passenger side there is a 24" long badly rusted through area that will have to be repaired. i'm guessing the noise on the drivers side is from rusted flooring as well. this car has been owned since new, well-maintained and garaged nightly. but it has been driven for 9 winters in the snow belt. still, the rest of the vehicle is in excellent condition with no rust other than in those two frequently complained of areas. *tr
I noticed rust under my car, upon closer inspection i noticed two large areas of rust under the passenger and driver side floor pan. the rust is almost completely through the floor and will need repair. *tr
I'm adding my 2005 nissan altima to the countless others with rusted through floorboards. during a recent oil change, the tech showed me where the floorboard had completely rusted away on the driver side. i counted over 120 complaints for this same problem reported to nhtsa for the 2005 nissan, but the websphere is full of many more complaints starting with the 2002 model year. nissan needs to acknowledge this problem and a recall should be issued before someone is injured or killed. *tr
My 17 year old daughter was involved in an accident with my 2005 nissan altima on may 21, 2014. she was hit by another vehicle in which she received back, leg and knee injuries. my vehicle was hit hard on the front passenger side in which the airbag did not deploy when clearly it should have by the impact of the accident and the speed of the other driver. to add, my daughter was wearing her seat belt and thank god there were no fatalities. when i purchased the vehicle i had no idea that there had been recalls on the vehicle for airbag issues. i would not have purchased it if so. in doing research i am finding out about the airbag issues affecting past and current nissan models. the car was deemed a total loss by my insurance company. the airbag system should deploy when the restraint controller detects a moderate to severe frontal collision. in my research, i have found that some airbags fail to deploy because auto manufacturers attempts to cut costs associated with their airbag systems, which in turn reduces the quality or the quantity of the airbag sensors. i would like the nhtsa to investigate this issue. i am out a car and strongly considering retaining an attorney to handle the case. *tr

When performing maintenance on my nissan altima, noticed two large rust areas originating from drain holes located underneath front driver and passenger side floorboards. the rusting is severe, with large flakes breaking away when touched. the vehicle has no rust anywhere unusual on the body or the chassis, and where there is rust (along weld points of chassis) it is not comparable to the degree of corrosion. contacted nissan usa, they instructed me to seek dealer review. dealership service manager reviewed and photographed, then denied assistance by citing the age of the car. i forward the decision to nissan usa, and they contact me by phone to politely inform me that they are rejecting due to the car being out of warranty. i informed that this is a very common issue and that the vehicle is otherwise structurally sound, but she repeated that regardless if the rust originated from a defect from nissan, the fact that it is out of warranty leaves her unable to assist. the vehicle is owned and driven in the mid-atlantic region where there is surface snow in the winter, but the undercarriage is sprayed down regularly to remove corrosive salt spray. this rusting was not visually present as of 6 months ago, but is now rapidly eating away at the metal at the surface. *tr
I took my nissan altima for inspection. the mechanic found the driver side floorboard to be rusted out. i am the original owner of the car and it was purchased with the dealer undercoating included. i am glad it was found before my foot went through the floor while i was driving. i checked with the nissan dealer i bought the car from and he was familiar with the problem. he informed me that nissan has not issued a recall for this problem. *tr
Was informed during routine service (oil change and winter/summer tire swap) that there was extensive rust in front floor panel and that the vehicle would not pass next year's safety inspection unless rusted area was removed and replaced.
We were told last year there was a hole the size of a grapefruit in the underbody, under where the passenger's feet would rest. i looked into getting it repaired and noticed a lot of similar complaints online, with others asking why it was not recalled due to the volume of such defects. today i brought my car in to check on a noise, and was told the hole has increased to the size of a breadbox and that the brake calipers are therefore rubbing on it. the first estimate i received to repair the hole is $2500, as the body shop will have to cut out the affected area and solder in a new piece. while i live in the midwest, we wash the underbody in winter, and i don't think this should be happening on a 9 year old car. *tr
My 2005 altima was in the driveway when my son noticed a large piece of rust under the passenger front floor. i pulled up the carpet and found a 6" by 16" hole in the floor. i contacted nissan for goodwill which was declined. i was a nissan certified master technician for 21 years and a service manager for the last 2. my wife and i have personally owned 10 nissan's and my immediate family owns 3 more. nissan said its an environmental issue. my car is in a garage and in otherwise great shape. during my tenure with nissan i've seen multiple altimas with this issue. i believe its not environmental but actually because of the sunroof drains draining directly into that area of the floor to drip out of a seep hole. this is a very dangerous condition. if something comes up off the road the only thing protecting you is the carpet, not to mention the fact your feet can go through to the ground below. *tr
While changing my oil i inspected the underbody of my car and noticed a rusted out area of floorboard on the drivers side. i checked further saw that an area the size of a large grapefruit is completely rusted out. i looked at the passenger side and see the start of the same damage due to rust. there appears to be a drain hole where the rust starts. on the passenger side you can see the original drain hole and the rust starting around it. on the driver's side, the rust is extensive enough that the drain hole is simply gone. in talking with repairs shops and checking the internet i can see this is a common issue with nissan altima's of my design - 2002- 2006. since this is a safety issue (allows fumes in the car if carpet wasn't there and could be structural in case of an accident) caused by a design issue (open drain hole in the floor trapping salt/water), i'd like to see nissan issue a recall to repair. thanks *tr
I am the owner of a 2005 nissan altima. my floor boards are rusted to a point that the carpet installation is hanging on the ground. if it rains and i ride over puddles i can feel the water.
I took my nissan altima to my nissan dealer to have an "check engine light" repaired. they told me that my floorboards had rusted out and would not pass state inspection. the car shows no visible sign of rust anywhere on the body. this must be a design defect because cars do not rust out anymore. how can you help me? thanks. *tr
