Vehicle was in park at startup. with foot on brake, i pushed the start button. with engine running, transmission would not shift out of park. after turning the engine off and back on multiple times, it finally allowed me to shift (3rd time after it set for a few minutes). this problem looks very similar to the problem occurring in the same year vehicle which is subject to recall, however, my local dealership is saying my vehicle is not a part of the recall. "2016 jeep grand cherokee vehicles manufactured may 15, 2015 to february 19, 2016. the brake transmission shift interlock solenoid..."
My 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo (3.7 liter v6) has about 78,500 miles. in 2018 my jeep had an engine service soon light incident. i had the obdii read by o'reilly auto parts for the failure codes. the codes downloaded were u0404 & p0700. i went to my mechanic and he stated, 'drive it for a while and it should go away', he was right - the failure code (dash light) went away. now, feb. 7, 2020 my engine service light went on. again i went to o'reilly auto part to have the obdii error codes read. again, the error codes came up u0404 & p0700. i did some research (on the web) and found a youtube video that addressed these two exact failure codes. please see the youtube video, web address, below that explains the failure and repair. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yd71knuo2au this video clearly shows the reason for these two error codes. the shifting console printed circuit board (pcb) has allowed (over time) the transfer of material between the different drive selection points (drive, reverse, park) on the pcb to be short circuited (bridged) causing a false signal to the other control ...
I got into my vehicle and when i tried starting it would not turn on the engine. the only thing that would illuminate was the speedometer area. the audio unit would turn on off and then on and then off. i tried about 10 times and would not start the engine. the vehicle was parked in my driveway when it happened.
The transmission stopped working while driving. the car stalled in the middle of a busy intersection. the jeep has 57,067 miles and now it does not drive.
Have has to replace water pump 4 times for leaking. replaced 2 power steering pumps. transmission and slipped and chirped since i bought it. noticed metal shaving in my oil.
The week i bought the vehicle, a message pops up saying 'service shifter' and when my vehicle is in park it doesn't shift into drive sometimes. i had to turn my vehicle off and turn it back on in order for my car to go into drive, while sitting in line at a car wash. when i hook a computer up to my car there is no codes that pop up, my gear numbers on the screen stay white, they never turn red. the 'service shifter' is on the whole time my vehicle is running and stays on the dash when i turn it off.

With my foot completely off the accelerator, the vehicle spontaneously accelerates under certain conditions. while in standard or sport mode, in second gear going about 20mph, there is a reproducible rpm surge that causes the vehicle to lunge forward. this somewhat feels like being rear ended.
When using the rear park assist, with my foot completely off the accelerator, the vehicle has spontaneously accelerated while going in reverse, requiring me to hard break to avoid collision. this has happened multiple times.
2012 grand cherokee v6. transmission randomly slips to neutral while still in drive without warning. mostly while stopped for light or sign. shifting to neutral and back to get it into drive again. no signs of shifting, sounds, lurching, bumps or grinding. smooth as can be, only way i can tell is the car accelerates. repair shop cannot find a problem.
