We have classified the 248 complaints from 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
At approximately 60,000 miles the vehicle had just been serviced and new tires were installed. we left the next morning for a vacation. about 100 miles down the limited access highway and traveling at 65 to 70 miles per hour the dash and information touch screen began flashing and a chime began repeating. the windshield wipers began operating at high speed. (it was clear, calm and about 65˚ f. different messages began flashing: one said to stop and place the vehicle in park, another said to keep driving and not turn the engine off. when able to exit the highway the jeep would only allow selection of drive or neutral. it would not allow reverse, which made it difficult to turn around. the vehicle did make it back 100 miles to the dealership but would not shift and lights flashed and chimes dinged the entire way. the dealer informed me that an electronic system associated with the transmission has failed and will cost approximately $1,000 to replace.
I have a 2015 jeep grand cherokee with 49,000 miles. in a three day period the transmissions started to have problems shifting a total of five times. it would violently start to shudder while in motion at highway speeds and nearly caused a terrible accident. i had to bring vehicle to complete stop on highway and restart. i took the vehicle to planet jeep in flagstaff, az for check as it is still under warranty. i was told that they cannot re create the issue and if they have to remove transmission pan to inspect i will be liable for cost of repair. i called fca customer service two times and they do not return my calls. i feel this is a dangerous problem that has potential for death or serious bodily injury and am not sure who to turn to at this point.
Arrived home 10:15pm dry roads and weather. backing jeep into driveway and went to full throttle back to hit the garage structure and door. shifted two drive to move out into the driveway and went to full throttle forward, across the street, through the swale into a vacant lot and hit the avista power transformer box knocking its off the base and pulling the 7,000 volt power cables out. jeep then stopped and i backed it back into the driveway and stopped. avista crew arrived and safed the transformer. resulting damage was $3,007 to house and garage door, $16,275 damage to front/back/undercarriage on jeep and about $4,880 to replace the avista transformer. car rental now 60 days at $42.00 per day. estimated total is now $26,682.
We had our 2015 jeep grand cherokee worked on to repair the issues per nhtsa recall # 16v-240. recently, the jeep alerted me as i was driving at a speed of approx. 35 mph that the "autopark has been disabled." my dealer is unable to figure out why this recall/software update has failed and rendered the "additional mechanism to mitigate the effect of operator error in failing to shift the monostable gear selector into park prior to exiting the vehicle" currently useless.
While traveling approximately 70 miles per hour (on a highway), on two occasions working 24 hours, the vehicle shifted from drive into neutral with no manipulation of the shifter. there was no warning of the impending loss of mechanical power to the drive wheels, and i was forced to coast to the shoulder of the road. no other systems (brakes or power steering as well as other electrical systems appeared to be affected. once on the shoulder and completely stopped, i attempted to shift the vehicle back into drive, but was prompted 'shift not allowed - vehicle speed too high' despite the fact that the speedometer read 0 mph. next, i pushed the start/stop button and the vehicle did not power down, but did allow me to shift into drive. the error has not replicated more than once per start up sequence (if it happens once while driving, pull over and restart, the error seems to not recur for the duration the vehicle is in motion for the rest of the trip). oil pressure and temperature as well as transmission temperature were reported as within normal operating ranges. i checked the vehicles oil level which was within the 'safe' zone on the dipstick. the vehicle had over 1/2 a tank of gas. this issue is new to the unit, with over 16 months of operating the vehicle it has only occurred within the past 24 hours. the issue is not preceded by any notification, and no mil's were activated either before or after the failure to shift. it is worth noting the key fob is low on battery, but the issue occurs solely in motion. i will be visiting the dealer prior for troubleshooting prior to operating the vehicle again.
I had the approved emissions modification completed on my ecodiesel grand cherokee. since these was completed there is a very noticeable lag when pressing on the gas. when trying to pull out into an intersection the lag is so bad (1-3 seconds) and you feel as if you are unable to move. this is going to cause some sort of accident as it is a definite safety hazard
Since doing the eco diesel update jeep has a serious lag / stall when accelerating and when going around 20 miles per hour when accelerating. numerous times when crossing out into traffic the vehicle has a lag/ power delay almost causing an accident. this was not an issue until the eco diesel update was done. its currently at the dealership, per the service manager they are aware of the issue and have had numerous complaints with the jeep and trucks due to the eco diesel update, but they have no resolution.
For vehicle with vin number [xxx], after a vo8 flash of the ecu due to emissions recall settlement the car has serious "lag" in acceleration from the stop position. this is a safety hazard as the lag creates a collision risk from on-coming traffic. currently the manufacturer does not have a solution for the software update that has caused the safety hazard. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
A "service shifter" messgage flashes across the dashboard screen and the lights on the shifter do no light up.
Jeep grand cherokee diesel, after v08 recall (diesel exhaust issue), car now will lag, and fail to accelerate at lower speeds under load. acts as if it will stall. dangerous in that it fails to respond to acceleration input under these conditions, usually around 20-25 miles per hour. when this occurs, car makes two very short and faint buzzing noises from the engine compartment. car did not do this prior to the v08 diesel recall software fix. this is an ongoing problem, car has been to shop several times, and everything checks out as being normal.
Takata recall- while driving at speeds above 35 miles, it feels as if the vehicle slows down as if the gears changed and it requires more pressure to be applied to the gas accelerator for the vehicle to go the same speed. this has happened multiple times at speeds of approximately 35 and over.
i have the 2015 jeep grand cherokee ecodiesel that received the emissions update required by the epa diesel settlement which chrysler fca. i noticed substantial lag problems the instant i pulled out onto the open road after the update from bonneville jeep in manchester nh. the vehicle is dead off the line and there is a 2-3 second turbo lag at all speeds. you end up giving more throttle than you want because the response is so delayed, and then you get a massive surge of full throttle which can be unsettling and make the vehicle unstable in a turn. very scary to ride when my wife or kids are driving who aren't used to the issue. pulling out into busy intersections, even with a warmed up engine is a dangerous, white knuckle experience as the vehicle crawls like a tortoise into the middle of intersections before the power finally comes after 2-3 seconds.. the service department is sympathetic but says corporate has turned its back on their reports of complaints. i believe the so-called settlement documents should be voided by a new class action suit - the terms of the settlement and their ad materials and even their customer service voice response recording say that there will be no loss of power, no impact on drivability or smoothness, and no change in mileage. all of these are untrue. they have destroyed the drivability and joy of owning these vehicles. more than that - they have made these vehicles extremely dangerous to drive. we've been scammed. chrysler should be forced to buy back these vehicles. i may be trading mine in.. my 3rd and final jeep.
While decelerating, 8hp70 automatic transmission experiences severely delayed downshifts with hard jerking from 3rd to 2nd and from 2nd to 1st gears. downshift from 2nd to 1st is most severe, often causing vehicle to lunge forward after having already come to a complete stop. this issue essentially occurs every time the vehicle is driven. it has been to a jeep dealership twice for service, but they cannot fix/identify the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. while parking the vehicle with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle lunged forward and crashed into anther vehicle without warning. the air bag did not deploy. a police report was filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was slightly damaged, but was driven to russ darrow chrysler dodge jeep milwaukee (888-497-8363, located at 7676 n 76th st, milwaukee, wi 53223). the technician was unable to duplicate the failure; however, the computer system was updated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,060. *as *as
When driving for about 20mn after slowing down to go threw town and coming to a stop. i will start driving again and. trying to get up to speed my jeep will not shift gears. i have been in neutral for several minutes before it shifts. this has happened several times. it has also hard shifted, and has had surged of power where it lunges a head.
Vehicle begins the shift hard. slamming into gears then all lit guts on dashboard come on. car then looses all power including power brakes and power steering. it also states parking brake must engaged and emergency brake is disabled. vehicle was in motion on side street in neighborhood. going forward. after vehicle was stopped we have video of messages and all lights going.
While driving at highway speed my 2015 jeep grand cherokee eco diesel started to make a rumbling noise, the oil pressure light came on within a minute the engine shut off still at highway speed. when i pulled over to the shoulder the car was stuck in gear, would not restart and had a small oil leak. the car was towed to the nearest dealer who determined that the car had engine damage and the engine needs to be replaced. car has less than 33,000 miles and still has original tires, and brakes. all oil change services were performed as suggested. car was purchased new from dealer august 4th, 2015.
I have a serious safety issue with my 2015 jeep grand cherokee. i have brought it to the dealer for this problem more than once and they are not able to identify any issues with the vehicle. they have not been able to replicate my experience. in short on a few occasions while driving at low speed the vehicle seems to change gear and accelerate. i would best describe it as a surge. this past saturday (12/08/18), while coming to a stop a three way intersection my jeep accelerated without warning. i already had been depressing the brake when the surge happened and since i have experienced this before i was able to bring the vehicle to a stop. i was lucky i did not accelerate into two way traffic. i was not so lucky in december of 2017. i was stopped at a traffic light (my wife and adult son were in the car to witness this). when the light changed, i took my foot off the brake and my car suddenly lurched forward. i jammed down hard on the brake but my car made contact with the car in front of me resulting in a fender bender. it could have been worse. i experienced this phenomenon one other time while driving along and stopping at a light. fortunately, there were no other vehicles nearby. as you might imagine, this has destroyed my confidence in this vehicle. i am afraid that this will happen again and may cause a more serious accident!
When in motion, transmission downshifts to first gear. engine races.
Service shifter warning
After 3.5 years of no problems, our jeep has been back to the dealer service every month since august 2018.currently at service since 1/14/19, 15 business days. in august: pulled into a parking spot and the wipers started, could not turn them off different messages flashed 'no bus', and various other msgs. check engine light was on. took in to dealer the next day. recalls were performed. we felt, our problems had been solved. they were not. september: arrived at my son's school 7:15 a.m. wipers started, chiming started, messages flashed, tire pressure flashed. turned engine off, restarted problem solved. october: on baltimore beltway with my son's carpool in the car, we were in rush hour traffic crawling along... wipers start, chiming, messages flashing 'service electronic throttle control' and others... then car started lurching and lunging somehow got it limping into the dealer... podded it and it threw over 480 codes. in service for 10 days. alternator replaced, did not help. november: arrived home after an 1.5 hour trip, chiming started, messages flashed. but this time as i reversed into driveway, car threw itself into park. december: again driving car pool of young teenagers, exited baltimore beltway, wipers start, chiming, messages, 'service electronic throttle', 'auto park disabled', service shifter, etc. engine revving but we're barely moving. there was nowhere to safely pullover and i have no idea if any of the exterior lights are working. i had to make a lady turn to get out of traffic. we barely made it. this last episode was the last straw. our dealer's service department has been nothing but helpful. they have, with my permission driven the vehicle with diagnostic equipment hooked up, they've put over 600miles on my vehicle, but i don't care because i'd like it fixed. they've tried to replicate for 15+ days w/no success. i do not feel safe in this car.

After the transmission update the shifter still doesn't work properly
I've reached out several times for the last 2 years with my transmission issues with my jeep. i was told for the majority of the 2 years that nothing could be done to fix it or that it was just the way the car drives. after getting chrysler/jeep involved at the dealership and having a case manager who was absolutely useless, somehow after 2 years they magically realized there was something wrong with the transmission. they had the car for over a week and when i got it back, it was about 50% better. i assumed that was as good as it gets since jeep doesn't really fix anything. as of the last week or so the car is now worse than when i took it in. it hard shifts from first to second gear then it hard shifts down from 3rd to 2nd when stopped and then stutters forward. the shifting is erratic and when stopping and then needing to accelerate the car just hesitates like it doesn't know what to do. which has caused me to almost get hit by another car several times. it is a liability not only to myself but to other people. it hesitates on the interstate when accelerating and left me in a situation where i was stuck between two semi trucks and the car basically stalled out. it should not be driven or on the road. im going to be killed in the car. i do not trust that jeep knows how to fix the car or even has a fix for the issue at this point. ive done research and it seems that its a known issue with the 2015 transmissions. i have given jeep several chances to make the situation right and now i;m done dealing with it. now its a matter of how much value jeep puts on a human life. how many more lawsuits will jeep have because of this vehicle before something is done.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the shifter independently shifted out of park and resulted in a rear end collision. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was previously taken to folsom lake chrysler dodge jeep ram (12545 folsom blvd, folsom, ca) to be repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v240000 (power train). since the repair, the contact had not seen a difference in the performance of the shifter. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was towed, but was not destroyed. there were no injuries. the failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
Gear shift slips into reverse from the park position on the selector panel.
I have a 2015 grand cherokee that has been in for the rollaway recall. tonight i pulled into a parking lot, got out of the car quickly to see how far i pulled in, and the car started rolling backwards. i thought the car was in park but in turn it was not. the car was in reverse. previous to tonight i've had this happen and as soon as you let go of the brake, if the door is open, the "auto park" kicks in and the vehicle goes into park. that did not happen. i was able to catch the car before it went to far and get it in park. after that incident i took videos on the behavior. repeatedly going from park, to reverse, or drive with the door open, taking my foot of the brake and every time it rolled and auto park did not apply. turned the car off and on a few times and still, no auto park. the videos are to large to fit into the 5 mb limit but can be sent by any other means you have available or here is a link to them on onedrive. https://1drv.ms/f/s!airasnb8ajcyg1xqr6wwntqyirj8 i do not feel safe driving this car as the recall does not work. if a satisfactory fix cannot be made i would like to discuss what options are available to me. thanks....updated 11/13/2017 *bf the consumer stated the another trigger for the auto park was wearing a seatbelt. the seat belt has to be off, not in park, and the driver's door open in order for it to work properly. this seemed to be the intended behavior so, the consumer would like to have the complaint disregarded. updated 11/30/2017*js
On 10/21/19 my 2015 jeep grand cherokee limited mount functioned. while trying to slowly back up my car in a garage the vehicle seized all dashboard lights went out including back up camera screen. only one light appeared before impact with a pole which was the service transmission light. my foot was off the gas when it jolted backwards into a large pole. this has happened multiple times where the car would seize or accelerate into first gear. it has done this when my foot wasn't on the gas peddle aswell. i contacted safford jeep in springfield va three times about my concern. nothing was corrected now i have been in an accident with very bad vehicle body damage. chrysler has done nothing and will not give me any answers on the satus of their investagation. this has now cost me out of pocket because they want to draw this out as long as possible.
I put my car in park in the garage, got out of my car and it started to back up on me, bending the door back and loosening the hinge but getting caught on the wall. i was able to jump back in and step on the brake, the car shifter had slipped back into reverse. i had my car fixed as the door was unsteady. i then received a recall on that particular part and sent in all my information but was denied coverage. i am very angry about this and request a supervisor to call me. i had the shift fixed at a local jeep dealership since then.
After we purchased the jeep grand cherokee it was taken in for a recall for the tcm, to be serviced and have the power steering fluid checked for leaks due to the well being empty. we were then told when we picked up the vehicle and the power steering well was dry that all jeeps are like that. after questioning that statement the tech went to vehicle and filled the well. after the dealership replaced the part, the vehicle will hold for 2 to 3 seconds then begin to roll back for 10 to 30 feet depending on the grade of the incline when in drive. it is an automatic with the hill start assist which does hold the brakes for the allotted time. the recall was for the vehicle to go into park if the driver takes off his seatbelt and exits the car in gear. that does work. the jeep will continue to roll until it jerks itself into neutral then stalls the motor, it will continue to roll if the brake is not applied. chrysler and the dealership continue to say that all vehicles (automatics) will roll back on an incline in drive and not stop until you apply the brake no matter the distance. we have discussed this issue with multiple chrysler certified mechanics and they have stated that under any circumstance no automatic transmission should roll back more than a foot. the manager of the service department stated that all vehicles roll back no matter the distance. i stated my kia soul does not even move an inch backwards in drive on an incline, he responded with"yes it does". he then stated that "due to the lemon law we can not guess what is wrong, if we are fix it three times you can return the vehicle and the time we have put into your jeep we are not getting paid for ". he also stated that our jeep does not idle high enough and can not be adjusted and chrysler says we are responsible to have control of the vehicle at all times. we don't want to return the jeep we want it safe.
Our 2015 grand cherokee was parked in a store parking lot, in park but running. the shift indicator showed it in park when my fianc exited the jeep she went into the store, someone came in and indicated that the jeep was going crazy. the jeep had shifted itself into reverse, drove around the parking lot twice and finally crashed into a tree. calls to fiat/chrysler have been less than helpful but they have told us that an inspector will be coming to look at the jeep and not to drive it in the mean time. this is a problem that fiat/chrysler is aware of since there is an open recall dealing with this issue but unfortunately they won't pay for a rental or provide a loaner vehicle while we wait for an investigator to look over the jeep.
tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while the vehicle was parked with the engine left running, the vehicle reversed independently into the garage without warning and caused the rear window to fracture. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer cueter chrysler jeep dodge ram located on 2448 washtenaw ave, ypsilanti, mi, 48197, where they informed the contact that they would service the recall and repair the rear window. in addition, the contact stated that she never received the recall notification letter for nhtsa campaign number: 16v240000 (power train), however the vehicle was included in the recall. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
Had jeep recall performed for the auto park issue. since the recall, the jeep has tried to engage autopark four times while in motion. the first time we were 30 miles from home, merging on to freeway. jeep went in to neutral, display read 'vehicle speed too fast to shift i to park'. obviously not trying to shift into park as i merge in highway traffic! stopped in side of road, vehicle would not shift into park. set ebrake, had vehicle towed in. a few weeks later, transfer case internally exploded. june 19th wife was going through an intersection, vehicle went in to neutral again. this time display says ' autopark disabled. she coasted in to a parking lot, shut car off, stated it and everything was ok. four days ago wife was backing out of driveway and jeep slammed in to park, on its own. she tried pulling forward and it slammed into park again. autopark once again tried to engage itself. this feature should only happen when speeds are 1.2 mph or slower, or if at higher speeds, it should shift transmission into neutral. i'm scared to drive this jeep now. if it's slamming into park at 10 mph, what's to prevent it from doing it at 65/70 mph?
I purchased a 2015 jeep grand cherokee from a chrysler dodge dealership on june 3, 2016. that particular day, there were new 2016 jeep grand cherokee's but they were not for sale and had some type of "do not sale stickers" on them. the sales rep stated the new 2016 jeep grand cherokees were under recall and could not be sold until the recall was fixed. there was one pre owned 2015 jeep grand cherokee available so i asked if it under recall too and was told no so i purchased it. in or around september 2016, i received a recall notice for the vehicle. i was so angry and felt like i had been duped because i specifically asked about a recall and was told there was none. i did some research and learned there is no state law that requires dealerships to disclose recalls on pre owned vehicles; the state law only governs brand new vehicles not being sold. i felt defeated and let it go, until this month; when i decided to have the recall completed (at a different dealer). this made me angry all over again so i did additional research and located the nhtsa's 2015 consent order against fca usa and decided to report this issue to you for review. in the consent order, fca was supposed to "develop and implement a process to deter dealer sales of unremedied vehicle subject to recalls, regardless of whether new or used. in my case, that did not happen and i don't want this to happen to anyone else! my question is, does the consent order apply to my situation? if so, what are my options?

My jeep shifts rough while increasing speed. it jerks and hesitates when shifting gears. also the gear shifter moves very easily to other gears i.e. n, r, d while driving or even parked.
My vehicle's body was damaged due to it not going into park. i was backing a trailer into a garage and put it in park when it was stationary. when i got it, it rolled back, causing body damage.

I backed up my jeep into a parking space in sfo short term parking, i put the transmission in p , applied the foot parking brake turned off the engine and exited the car. when i went out to pick up my suitcase, i could not open the tailgate since the car was too close to the wall. i reentered into the car, started the engine and moved the car few feet forwards in order to be able to open the tailgate and pick up my suitcase, i meant to drive the car back in reverse to park it after removing the suitcase, i moved the gear shifter forwards and believed that the gear selector was in park and the engine was running i opened the lift gate, removed my suitcase , and manually closed the tailgate, i put the suitcase on the side and went back in order to drive the car back, when i saw the car moving forwards, and eventually hit the wall on the other side , about 40 feet away, i jumped into the car in order stop it, i ended up sitting in the driver seat applying the brake, but a fraction of a second too late. the front of the car suffered substantial damage in the left side , the airbag has not deployed. i am sure that it happened because of the confusing gear shifter employed in this car as included recall s27 which when i when i visited the dealer ( chrysler of stevens creek) few month earlier, soon after i got the recall letter, they were not ready to perform the recall. right after it happened, i contacted the dealer, they performed the recall. i can see now that if the recall would have been performed earlier this incident would not have happened. i also wish they will replace the shifter, to the one which they applied to the next year model, since it is still dangerous that it is almost always impossible to put the shifter fast in reverse to avoid accident.
My transmission make a high pitched squeal anytime i am going up a mountain side or even on a slight hill if i am going over 2.5 rmps. it also has difficulty downshifting and upshifting a slower speeds. shifts very rough and sometimes feels like the transmission is going to fall out. i also have had it where i need to speed up to avoid a hazard only to have the transmission bottom out for a second or two and not kick into the motor. so i don't speed up. i just kind of keep going at the same speed. i only have 22,000 miles on it but it feels like the transmission is from and 1960's car. this should be investigated. i believe that the transmission that was installed on these models was a newer type that jeep just started using and i can see from my own internet research that there are many many complaints regarding this model of transmission.

I was traveling up interstate 95 just passed exit 26 in connecticut. as i approached exit 27 a a vehicle in the exit only lane merged into the slow lane in front of me. i proceeded to then accelerate around the vehicle that had crossed in front of me and immediately as i accelerated the vehicle began to accelerate uncontrollably to an unsafe speed. i shifted the car into neutral and braked and steered appropriately. as my vehicle began to slow i then proceeded to shift the car back into drive hoping that the issue would be resolved. while my vehicle was a neutral i tapped the gas pedal in hopes of if it was jammed or stock it would come loose and i would be able to control the acceleration of the vehicle. unfortunately the pedal did not come on stock as i proceeded to drive i realize that my speed was dropping to an unsafe rate while being on an interstate i proceeded to shift my car back into drive only to have the pedal that was still pressed to the floor accelerate the vehicle uncontrollable to again in unsafe speed. after i proceeded to stomp on the throttle in hopes of loosening it from whatever it was that was causing it to be stuck in the open position, the pedal finally returned to its on stock position with a loud bang. i don't proceeded to steer immediately off the highway at the next available exit and turn the vehicle off...updated 04/20/17 *bf ..updated 05/09/17 *bf the consumer stated the floor mat closest to the accelerator was trimmed, but the failure recurred. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. *js *cn

Vehicle rolls forward while in park while in driveway.
Does not always achieve park gear when shifted to it. very often the vehicle will not make it past neutral or reverse when attempting to shift to park resulting in the vehicle rolling forward or backward depending on the pitch of the road, or will lurch backward if the electronic shiftier only achieves reverse. on 2 occasions with my 2014 and 2015 grand cherokees after shifting to what i thought was park and exited, the vehicle rolled away from me. most recently about 5 weeks ago i had backed into my driveway and stopped about 6-8 feet from my garage door , shifted to what i thought was park and had only achieved reverse. at the same time my daughter had come out of the house to go into the garage and as i took my foot off the brake the car now in reverse lurched backward and had i not slammed on the brake my 15 year old daughter would have been pinned in between the car and garage door. i notified chrysler and have an open case with them but they have offered me no resolution at this time saying that the car performs as expected. all i asked was to be released from my lease to get into with a new grand cherokee that has the new shifter. now i am considering legal action and i am starting here.
