I believe this recall applies to my vehicle. i have the v6 and same transmission it affected over 100,000 vehicles. a mechanic looked at the vehicle and confirmed the leak and shutter of the torkconverter. i bought the vehicle around the date of the recall issued and perhaps the dealership did not perform the fix prior to sale. please help i don't want my car to go on fire. recall id # 05v396000 - power train:automatic transmission recall date: sept 14, 2005 component: power train:automatic transmission model affected: grand cherokee units affected: 101925 summary: on certain sport utility vehicles equipped with 3.7l engines and nag1 automatic transmissions, the air conditioner evaporator condensate water may enter the transmission at the fill tube grommet seal. this can result in shudder during torque converter clutch engagement. consequence: it can lead to increased transmission operating temperatures, boiling of the water, and a subsequent purging of transmission fluid into the engine compartment potentially resulting in an underhood fire. remedy: dealers will inspect the transmission for leakage at the fill tube grommet seal. if no leak is detected, a new fill tube ...

Vehicle is 2007 jeep grand cherokee and currently has 18300 miles and was purchased new in jan. 2008. two failure to accelerate problems have occurred. one on 5/31/10 and another on 04/21/11. in both instances the vehicle would not shift into the next gear and the speed could not exceed 30 to 35 mph even with the accelerator pressed all the way to the floor. the problem occurred without any warning. after the first occurrence the dealer replaced the bezel shift selector. after the second occurrence the dealer could not determine what the problem was. merging onto a busy freeway where traffic speeds routinely exceed 80mph and not being able to accelerate beyond 30-35 mph is a serious safety problem which could result in injury or death. the same safety concerns apply if the vehicle suddenly decelerates from 70 to 30 mph. *tr
The dash indicators for the gear shift will all illuminate at the same time and the vehicle will go into neutral. this has happened three or four times. the last time it occurred while traveling on the expressway, fortunately i was able to get it back in gear after taping the shift lever several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they said they replaced a electronic shift module. they kept the old part that was removed. *tr
When putting transmission into drive, the vehicle will not accelerate, this problem first occurred at approx 31,000 miles. the dealership replaced the shift control module. the problem went away. then again at 62,000 miles, when pulling into traffic, the vehicle started to accelerate, then lost power. another vehicle had to swerve to miss me, i would have been hit in the drivers door had he not swerved. my vehicle would not move, after cycling the ignition key , the problem went away, took to dealer they told me that the same shift control module needs to be replaced (again) for 750.00. the vehicle is unsafe to drive and i am shocked that someone has not been killed by this issue as there are hundreds of reports of this on the internet. this is absolutely a manufacturing defect as it has happened on a wide number of identical vehicles with the same repair being performed only to have the problem repeat itself. *tr
