Twice in the last two months, my vehicle experienced an un-commanded engine shut. both times my vehicle was traveling at or about 50 mph decelerating to an approaching red light. i would receive a (fcw light indication and audible warning, rpm would read zero, no power steering, and no power assisted brakes). i would put my car in park once i came to a complete stop then restart my vehicle and all systems would read normal.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 60 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the contact powered off the engine, restarted the vehicle, and was able to drive normally. the contact stated that the rpms were decreasing, which caused the vehicle to slow down. the contact mentioned that the vehicle stalled while driving at a low speed. the battery was replaced, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v813000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

Car is stalling when pulling up to a stop.
My 2001 jeep grand cherokee has a defect on cylinder# 2 apparently there was no recall even though it is a defect. my lights would flicker in drive sitting at a red light, still does, and now the engine is starting to run rough, after more and more research come to find out this is an issue with these jeeps never a recall but there was an extended warranty that was put out by chrysler 10 yrs or 150,000 miles. just found this out a couple of days ago, i have 152,000, so they would not honor their warranty. i have documentation that cylinder 2 was an issue in 2017 i have documentation where my car was diagnosed when it had 95,000 miles at the time it was wasn't a dealership so they wouldn't accept it. its going to cost me around $4,000-$6,000 to get it fixed, not sure why it has to be dealership documentation , i feel that chrysler has been hiding this from consumers to save money and let the consumer take the fall for a defect that they were aware of. why cant this be recalled? regardless of miles, very disgruntled with chrysler for putting out products that have issues, i have taken my jeep to every recall it has had and its been about 5 of them. i love the jeep but the mechanical and electrical of jeep has many issues would not recommend to anyone. how many people have to have these issues in order for it to be recalled?
I previously reported that this 2011 jeep grand cherokee (3.6 pentastar engine) stalls without warning. the vehicle has stalled at least twice in august, numerous times in september, and already twice this month (october). what is more concerning is there is no check engine light the warns of the pending stall condition. also, i have had the thermostat, lifters, tappets, rocker arms, cylinder head, spark plugs, and ignition coils replaced and problem seems to be getting worse. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (koons tysons corner). the dealer cannot read any active or stored codes for the stalling issue. additionally, the shop foreman advised that it appeared to be the fuel pump. i ordered the $540.00 fuel pump and had replaced on monday october 7, 2019 for an additional $630.00. ironically enough, the vehicle stalled going home and the fuel pump repair did not fix the issue. the mechanic and service advisor now say that i should replace the pcm and then the tipum if all else fails. this is an additional $3,000.00 in estimated service that they cannot guarantee that will fix the issue. the most concerning thing is that chrysler will not be held accountable for this. i have also filed a complaint with fca, whom initially just closed the case. i then filed another one today and requested to speak with a case manager, which is pending (no faith at this point). it should also be noted that fca is aware of this issue as addressed in the recall: chrysler is recalling 188,723 2011 dodge durango and jeep grand cherokee suvs in the u.s. because of a defective fuel-pump relay inside the power module that can cause the vehicles to "stall without warning."
While driving 2011 jeep grand cherokee with children in car, the jeep just stalls out on me and i lose control of the steering. it has happened most times when i am making left and right turns.
Alternator recall already exists for this 2011 production 8/2010, 3.6 ltr. 160 amp. my battery light is on and dealer said its probably the pcm. quoted 850 for part .my vin doesn't show up on above recall, even though all qualifying criteria is met. why? car will stall when battery is dead. cant be driven at night. disablec vet caregiver.
While driving and coming to to a stop the engine suddenly turns off then must be put into park to restart. i have only owned the car about a month and it has happened twice.
There is a crack in the housing which is a big recall problem in jeeps. but not the 2011. obviously it is a problem with the 2011. it will cost us alot of money to get it fixed when i am positive that it should be covered like the other yrs. a jeep is a jeep. there was no accident. we are not young people that don't take care of their cars. we are elderly and drive responsibly. oil just blows out of the crack when you start the engine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact had to place the vehicle in the park position and turn off and restart the vehicle in order for it to resume normal operation. the failure only occurred when the vehicle came to a complete stop. the dealer was not contacted. the failure was experienced several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
The fuel pump relay is defective. this has already been recalled but the patch "fix" jeep does does not solve the problem completely and they know this. there is an issue with the computer which does not send correct signal to fuel pump. on start car will not start often because it is not receiving any fuel. i am afraid this cheap "fix" jeep came up with will cause the fuel to go out while driving. the biggest defect with the car is the v-8 hemi cam shaft and lifters. every mechanic i have taken my car too has said that jeep knows it is a problem but will not fix. i was driving 70 mph when my jeep lost power and the check engine light came on and started flashing which with the loss of power cause me to just about have a wreck on the highway. it was a very scary scenario. i took it to my trusted mechanic who foudn a cylinder 2 misfire & performed a tune up and he said i needed to report the problem to jeep as they are known to have sever problems. the dealer charged me to "diganose" the problem and reported back that the lifters and cam shaft need to be replaced. this has been such a bad problem for jeep the lifters have been on back order multiple times but they will not admit it is a problem. my car has less than 100,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained and now lookin g at rebuilding an engine and jeep will only provide 2 year warranty or the work, which shows they have no trust in the fix and there is a fatal flaw with the v-8 hemi. please force jeep to honor their customers and correct the known mistakes with their engines.
Oil leak from oil filter housing when running
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. when the vehicle pulled out of the driveway at 5 mph, it stalled and rolled into the middle of the road. the contact stopped the vehicle and had to shift through all gears to restart the vehicle. the contact called gengras chrysler dodge (460 connecticut blvd, east hartford ct, 06108 860-956-5083) and was informed that the vin was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 104,000.
Two issues with this vehicle. first, at 99,000 the camshaft began to fail due to excessive wear. the vehicle is now burning an excessive amount of oil and fuel. i am told that the engine needs to be replaced, but the dealership and chrysler refuse to repair/replace under warranty. second, the vehicle constantly stalls while driving. this happens 1-2 times per month, typically when breaking for a stop, or breaking to make a right hand turn. very dangerous. dealership was unable to identify the problem, but i see literally hundreds of complaints from people who have the same problem.
Exiting highway. one incident merging right off ramp. other incident, slowing to cross oncoming traffic onto a road. engine suddenly shuts down. fcw light comes on. sensor on front is kept very clean! vehicle will restart but this is very dangerous as i was almost hit by oncoming traffic in the none incident. i read that this is common with these vehicles. shame on you! never have another one

Left head bad, cylinder #2 misfire with pentastar engine. you have had multiple reports of this problem in which chrysler extended warranty plans to cover this faulty engine. my jeep was purchase with a salvage title related to body work(engine was not involved) with 43, 565 miles. my mileage at time of left head default 56, 567 miles. i am outraged!! my family has been true advocates for the jeep product for 20 years, purchasing nine jeeps. i truly understand that the warranty falls off with a salvage title, i am pleading for some reimbursement from chrysler knowing that the pentastar engine is faulty with left head. i had to rent a car for 10 days in order for bluewater chrysler to get the left head in and do the job. parts/installation $1,893.05 with car rental from enterprise $497.67 with a total of $2,390.72. i have records from the internet of the pentastar engine(faulty), records from bluewater chrysler. i will mail at your request. please be advised, i will take this to court. i would appreciate some form of reimbursement. thank you, mrs. [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
2011 grand cherokee overland 5.7 v8 approx 124000 miles stalled when turning left through intersection slowing from 50 to 25 mph. steering and brakes failed. all recalls have been performed. this was supposedly fixed with p54 (fuel pump relay). fortunately i was not towing my boat. this issue seems to have spanned many years and is extremely dangerous.
2011 jeep grand cherokee shuts off while driving. power steering, engine control and braking all become difficult to use. happening while turning causes the vehicle to veer into the guard rails, if they are present, or oncoming traffic, if turning away from traffic is too difficult. luckily, in the multiple times this happened, i was turning right, either onto the highway onramp or into a gas station. the times into the gas station, sent me over the curb and grass, barely missing the pumps. the vehicle shows no signs of an error on the dash. all radio, lights and gauges work fine. once you are able to stop the vehicle, it must be put into park and the push button start re-ignited. it terrified my family.
While driving and deceleration the jeep shuts off. no lights come on indicating that the vehicle is no longer running. the first clue is loss of power steering and brakes. this always happens within the first couple miles of driving. the jeep starts right back up and then 99% of the time won't stall again for a couple days. this is getting more frequent.
During the cold months while driving, i noticed more heat than what should be normal on my feet/legs, coming from the engine compartment. 4/1/19 it was a warm day, so the extreme heat, while i then noticed the a/c was not working, prompted me to call jeep dealership to make an appointment. they took a look at it, and scheduled repair for 5/7/19. they replaced the heater core and it's housing--(along with blend doors and actuators for the 3rd time). they said the housing had actually melted from extreme heat. there is no way this under dashboard heat should be this extreme, the result of the heater core. $2,200 to replace. should be a recall item.
It has now happened several times in which i'm driving and the jeep suddenly loses all engine power, braking and power steering. this happens on the highway. there are never any warning lights or sounds to signal this is about to take place. this last time it almost made me cause an accident.
I have a 5.7 hemi in my jeep. the vehicle stalls when slowing down, and making a right hand turn off of a highway. this has happened 8 times in the 2 years that i have owned the car. it happened once when i was slowing down for a speed zone on a straight road. the vehicle gives no warning that it is going to shut down. our local jeep dealer did some diagnostics, but found nothing. from what i have read it seems to happen to the 5.7 engines. i don't like driving the car with anyone in it for fear of getting rear ended if it stalls, and people are behind me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving over 70 mph, the vehicle hesitated and lost power. the check engine indicator was also illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the vehicle misfired and the cylinder needed to be replaced. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 58148205. the failure mileage was 104,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while the contact was passing another vehicle at 70 mph, the vehicle began to tremble and the engine lost power. on another occasion, the vehicle decelerated and accelerated on its own in traffic. in addition, the check engine indicator illuminated. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that a new multi-displacement system, lifters, and cylinders were needed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and a case was filed; however, a parts specialist was not available to respond. the failure mileage was 100,005.
The vehicle was cruising on the highway the engine suddenly stops.,vehicle coasts to a stop. after a 15 minute wait, the engine starts again.
Vehicle had a misfire in cylinder #3. took to jeep dealership to diagnose and they found a rounded camshaft and bad lifters. vehicle has 104,000 on it and i inquired as to options. #1 - $4,600 repair (min if they do not find anything else) and they were having issues getting lifters due to back order #2 - replace engine, quoted $8,600 and once again was unsure the timing as no long or short blocks were available. inquired as to what could have caused this and was told that there is nothing, as the owner, i could've done. that sometimes this just happens and if it was closer in years to the end of warranty they would cover, however since it is 7 years old there is nothing they can do. find it surprising and unacceptable that with a little research you can find that the 5.7 hemi has numerous complaints about rounded camshafts due to bad lifters. further acknowledged by the dealership when they were commenting on how hard it was to obtain the necessary parts to repair.
I was driving down the highway at 60mph when i let off the gas and hot the brakes to slow down for a corner the engine shut down and i lost breaks and steering. i was able to muscle the steering through the corner and coasted to a stop. i put the jeep in park, got the break pedal and started the vehicle back up. everything seemed to work again. when i lost the engine, breaks and steering nothing else was effected. i still had lights, radio and gauges. but, no warning lights or codes came on.
Takata recall. when my vehicle is in motion arriving at an intersection, and i decrease the speed, the engine shuts down and at the same time the steering wheel is stuck, making it impossible to turn, and the brakes get hard. i have already taken the car 3 times to the jeep shop and they have not been able to fix this problem. since this problem started 2 months have passed and it has already happened 4 times. the car does not show any errors on the screen or afterwards when they are read. it is very dangerous because it always stays in the middle of the intersection without being able to do anything.
Both mufflers have rusted and have holes in them. my jeep is parked in the garage, never driven on the beach, washed regularly and very well taken care of. we bought it 10/31/11 straight off the showroom floor with 6miles on it. noticed this today 12/25/18 due to puddles on the garage floor.
Ticking from left cylinder head and minor tick from right cylinder head. chrysler admits to having a manufacturer defect in vehicle and extended the warranty on the left cylinder head. if there is a compression issue and the vehicle stalls in the roadway could be a fatal mistake. this needs to be fixed in all vehicles included with the right cylinder head. or recall the vehicle. this is a huge safety issue.
Purchased vehicle 12-15-18. since then, the vehicle has stalled intermittently (3 times in 2 weeks) at stops without any lights appearing on instrument panel. the first time, i wasn't even aware the engine cut out until i pressed on the accelerator and nothing happened. the vehicle starts back up, but will not go into gear immediately. in one instance, it took about 5 seconds to go into gear. brought vehicle to dealer where purchased (pauly toyota- crystal lake, il.) who recommended bringing it to a jeep dealership. brought to crystal lake, il crysler jeep dodge who could not diagnose problem as no faults appeared under test. fluids were clean, and at proper levels. was told to drive vehicle until condition reappeared, and it would be reinvestigated. this is similar to other complaints about this vehicle type stalling, except that so far, it has only happened when the vehicle is at a stop in traffic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost power and decelerated to 40 mph. the contact had to continually pump the brakes to get the vehicle to stop. the vehicle was taken to courtesy dodge jeep ram (1890 dogwood dr se, conyers, ga 30013, 678-210-2489) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 171,000.
The engine instantly stalls without warning at any given time or speed while driving on a street or highway. the stall unexpectedly forces the driver into an unsafe operating position having to pull off to the side of the road without the assistance of power steering or power brakes. after coming to a complete stop, the vehicle must then be shifted back into park and restarted. the vehicle has stalled a minimum of 30 times on separate occasions over the last 12 months. the vehicle was examined by our local jeep dealer and they were unable to determine the cause of the stalling or provide us with a course of action to resolve the issue.
Transmission cooler is leaking. no warning, just fluid on the ground - several complaints from other owners online. oil pressure sensor not working. - no warning, several complaints from other owners on line.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to david dodge chrysler jeep (610-358-5300, located at 1801 wilmington pike, glen mills, pa 19342) to be diagnosed, but the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the same dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000. the vin was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled while driving down a ramp. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the road shoulder. after stopping the vehicle and restarting it, the contact was able to drive home safely. there were no warning indicators illuminated; however, "forward collision warning" appeared on the instrument panel. oxmoor chrysler jeep dodge and ram (4520 shelbyville rd, louisville, ky 40207, (502) 895-4520) was contacted, but no assistance was provided. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced for the same failure a year ago. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 102,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and had to be coasted to the road shoulder. after approximately four attempts, the vehicle restarted normally. the vehicle stalled three other times before arriving at the contact's residence. the vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 115,115.
Lifter seized in #3 cylinder causing cam failure while driving
While accelerating to merge onto the highway, the check engine light came on and i could not accelerate above approximately 45 mph or 3000 rpms. i let off the gas thinking the jeep would slow, but it didn't slow down. i was able to decelerate by braking (obviously). however, i was still unable to go faster than approximately 45 mph or 3000 rpms. i took it into the shop twice before because the check engine light came on, and i was told the oil pump was stuck on low (?) this has been an ongoing issue for the past four months. there has always been something wrong with this vehicle despite regular service maintenance visits.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle overheated and an unknown indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the failure occurred a couple of times. in addition, the vehicle would sometimes not start from a cold start. the contact had to shift the gear out of park in order to get the vehicle to start. the vehicle was taken to kernersville chrysler dodge jeep ram (950 nc-66, kernersville, nc 27284, (888) 656-5791) where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module (fuse box) needed to be replaced. the circuit was not getting power to the fan to cool the radiator. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 135,000.
While decelerating in a right turn the engine quit. it started right up afterwards.
When driving my 2011 jeep grand cherokee it will randomly stall while entering a turn or starting to brake and it will completely loose power steering and shut off. i have almost hit a guard rail a couple times and almost got rear-ended by a semi truck because it wouldn't start right back up. i have brought this to the dealership several times and it still keeps happening after they claim they fixed it. they don't seem to concern while i almost have been into several accidents which included my 18 month old and wife in the vehicle. i have had the vehicle for over 4 years and this has occurred ever sense i bought it.
Engine turned off while exiting freeway decelerating and making a slight right turn. the only way to restart is to press on brake return shifter to park and restart engine by pushing start button. scary and dangerous situation. also affected steering and brakes.
While driving the vehicle shuts off completely. try restarting may take several attempts. there is no response from the engine ie: not turning over, starter not engaging. once it starts it drives fine until the next occurrence. this also happens quite often when first trying to start the car as well.
Every few weeks, within the past year, my vehicle will stall while driving. in the past it has been while slowing down to make a right turn. this morning it stalled while driving through an intersection and almost caused an accident. at each time it has been while in motion and turning.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the brakes failed to engage. as a result, the vehicle crashed into a building. the vehicle was then shifted into park, but the engine began to rev. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed to a police tow yard. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was 52,832. *js
