Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep gc2011 stalls whiling driving. ongoing since 2012; mechanics have done a lot of service and repair very costly out of my pocket expences but has not fixed the stalling. says it maybe the alternator, throttle or ignition problem. the 2011 model should be included in the chrysler recall #t36 (nhtsa #17v435).

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed oil underneath the vehicle on the carport floor. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to opelika ford chrysler dodge jeep ram (801 columbus pkwy, opelika, al 36801 (334) 749-8113) where it was diagnosed that the oil filter housing was cracked, which caused the leak. the oil filter housing needed replacement, but the vehicle was not repaired due to cost. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. the contact stated that the manufacturer denied the repairs due to the high mileage of the vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 89,000. *tt updated 9/19/18*jb

When traveling long distance or at high speed the check engine light comes on and traction control locks itself off and won't let it accelerate until you turn the car off then back on. has done it multiple times now after replacing the camshaft sensor each time

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle lost power. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 72,000.

Vehicle check engine light comes on, vehicle loses power and eventually stalls. this has been going on for about a year and has happen about 4 times

Driving w on 60 in az, 30 mins after having oil changed at local auto care shop, where i was told everything looked fine but my radiator hoses looking soft. consider getting g new ones in this 112 degree heat (like the day i'm submitting this). on freeway, engine overheats, stalls, steering locks, brakes harden and i come to a complete stop in an inconvenient 2 inches off the curb, still in everyone's way as they attempt to exit mill ave. brakes hard and doesnt allow for push-to-start button to turn over. nor to place in neutral. standing by for a tow as we speak. never had this happen before. coolant just topped off three days ago and given an okay after oil change half hour prior to this happening. perhaps coincidence. perhaps just life. reporting either way.

Engine shuts off intermittently while driving at different speeds

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at unknown speeds, the headlights, windshield wipers, and instrument panel illuminated. the check engine warning indicator also illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was still at the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were unknown.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front driver and passenger side windows randomly lowered without warning. the contact had to use the electronic function to wind the windows up each time the failure occurred. the cruise control failed to engage and disengage, which caused the contact to have to turn off and restart the vehicle. the service engine light illuminated when the cruise control failure occurred several times. the vehicle was not inspected and diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

Car stalls without warning. collided with tree, major front end damage. no power steering, power brakes, no air bags were deployed, seat belts did not tension. vehicle had stalled previously and take to dealer. dealer replaced ignition coils and said problem was fixed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 25 mph exiting a highway, the vehicle stalled and the fcw warning indicator illuminated. the contact shifted into park and the vehicle restarted normally. the failure recurred approximately fifteen times when driving and attempting to slow down. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they were not able to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was at the dealer for two weeks. the manufacturer headquarters telephoned the contact to pick up the vehicle, mentioned that a recording device was installed, and advised the contact to continue driving so the error could be recorded. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while braking and turning the vehicle to the right, the engine would shut off. the failure caused the power steering to shut off as well. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to huntington beach chrysler dodge jeep ram (16701 beach blvd, huntington beach, ca 92647, 714-841-3999) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the contact was informed to bring the vehicle back if the failure recurred. the contact stated that the engine failure sporadically occurred three additional times. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 55,000. the vin was invalid.

My car engine stalls when i make turns specially early in the morning for no reason it just stalls without warning but sometimes when i came to a stop light as well, very very unsafe & scary!!! i've been lucky usually in the lane close to the sidewalk so i can maneuver to the side but eventually my luck will run out, i'm very unease when i drive this vehicle as i don't when i'll happen. the tipm was already taken care of but i still have the problem is not all the time but it happens, i've taken it to the dealer right after it happens but they can not reproduce the problem or find any error codes

The 2011 jeep grand cherokee will experience engine stall while the vehicle is in motion, at times in excess of 30 mph. this causes a loss of power steering and power brake functions. it has likewise stalled at stop lights/signals which is equally dangerous when vehicles are approaching from behind at high speeds expecting the vehicle in front to move with the green light. chrysler issued a recall (p54) related to these issues, however the cheap external fuel pump relay wiring harness fix they employed to remedy the problems can be characterized as insufficient at best. in fact, the issues with our family vehicle have actually worsened since the p54 recall was performed in may of 2015. the vehicle's problems have now progressed to the point where the vehicle will not start: a typical symptom of these dangerous jeep/chrysler products. there are literally hundreds of consumer complaints outlining similar issues i.e., the vehicles being difficult to start or not starting at all, vehicles' power windows not operating properly, door locks opening and locking on their own, horn blaring, the vehicle not recognizing the fob, electronic fuel pumps remaining on after the vehicle is shut off and stalling while the vehicle is in motion. a common theme related to all of these issues seems to be the power distribution center for the vehicles or the tipm (total integrated power module). it seems fiat - chrysler has been aware of the problems with their oem manufactured tipm parts for some time, since 2007, but took the woefully inadequate route of correcting only a small and less dangerous issue of the manufacturers defect. hence their court ordered p54 external fuel pump wiring harness, which on a good day will correct the fuel pump run-on. what needs to be addressed is the stalling while in motion issues associated with these vehicles. please mandate a safety recall.

I was driving on the highway to work in the passing lane, when the rpm's went way up and then way down. i heard a loud noise coming from under the hood and loss of power from engine. no engine light indicator was on before this happened or any sort of indication this was about to occur. i pulled over and had it towed to the dealership. the dealership indicated that the crankshaft was broken internally and that this is a defect of workmanship as i can show records of every oil change on this vehicle. the dealership is offering no good will and chrysler refuses to help as the mileage is 114,000. i still owe close to $13,000 on this vehicle and to replace the engine it is going to cost $7,800.

Replaced tipm 15 months ago. today, turning into parking lot car stall. lost all power steering, no brakes, no engine. had to restart while coasting. decelerating at 45 mph making a left turn.

Engine shut off while decelerating from 40mph at aprox. 15mph while coming to a stop sign. this has happened as recently as last month. all instruments, radio etc. remained powered. no warning lights. dealer can't seem to identify issue. previous recall for fuel relay was completed in 2014. previous nhtsa id number: 10783730

The engine shuts off randomly while driving

My car would not start on a number of occasions--the starter would make noise but the engine would not start. it usually started on the second or third try. i received a recall notice for defective tipm unit but was told that the part was not in stock. well over a year later, the company still does not have any in stock. in addition, i have experienced my horn randomly doing off (sounds like the panic alarm) even though the car was running and in motion. jeep should be much more proactive about this as an stalls during driving as a result of a tipm defect could case bodily harm to the driver, passengers, and others on the road.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and caused a loss of braking and power steering ability. the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 115,000.

The engine seemed to lose power and the power steering and breaks lost power as well. was merging from the highway on to a main street in a city. the vehicle was nearly inoperable but i was able to stop it and restart it. but the brakes and steering were locked.

My car will stall and then accelerate very quickly. if i am driving and trying to accelerate my car will stall almost cutting off. this usually happens around a speed of 25/30 mile per hour. i also experienced deceleration while driving on the highway at 60/65 mph. this is very scary. also when i am in reverse my transmission makes a knocking sound. my engine light constantly comes on. heat vapors comes from the hood of the car.

Since safety recall p54 was applied, my vehicle has completely died while driving on 5 separate occasions 1 on 19oct, 2on31oct, and 2on7nov. the vehicle is currently at sam lehman chrysler jeep dealership in peoria, il. they claim that i need new software at my expense to address the vehicle shut downs. attached transcript is with chrysler. they do not appear to take this safety issue very seriously.

Vehicle has completely shut down while driving 5 times in the recent past. 1x19 oct; 2x31 oct; 2x7nov. the vehicle completely shuts off while driving. this is very dangerous as all power is lost for breaks, steering, and obviously no acceleration. chrysler safety recall p54 has been applied prior to these issues. dealer and chrysler are charging me customer (at my expense) to flash new software files on the vehicle computers. i sense this is very likely a much broader safety issue and am hoping our government (nhtsa) officials will investigate before someone is injured as a result of this.

Engine shuts off while driving without warning. this has occurred twice while decelerating on the highway. dealer can not identify problem, no open recalls on vehicle.

Check engine light indicating cylinder # 2 misfire and an engine ticking sound. i'm researching the issue with chrysler and i'm see a lot of problems with this issue but i don't see any recalls.

This is the sixth time, today, 9/13/15. i haven't been killed yet, but it's a future possibility. my jeep loses power and will not steer. it happened with my mom and my only child in the jeep. chrysler tells me every time to take it to the local dealer, quirk jeep in marshfield, ma. i do. they run the ever popular 'diagnostics' and find nothing wrong with it. yet, it keeps happening! the last time it happened, i was on the highway during rush hour traffic. state police would not allow me to wait for aaa so i had to pay out of pocket $120 to be towed off the road by some neanderthal in a tow truck. what can i do before i am killed by this vehicle? *the last time it happened was in early august of this year. i contacted jeep with this email and was told to take it in to the dealer for 'diagnostics.' i did and they found no problem again! my jeep is again losing speed and power steering. it is random. i am driving along and it loses acceleration and power steering. i am terrified to drive on the highway expect in the far right lane at minimal speeds. this is a problem because i am a travelling salesperson and must be on the road all day, five days a week. i travel up to 200 miles a day. as i indicated back in december, this is my fifth jeep. quirk says all the recalls on my vehicle have been done and their diagnostics can find no reason for the loss of power. however, it is happening and it is extremely dangerous. originally, when this first started happening, shortly after i bought this pre-owned jeep, i was told the tipm recall would correct these problems. obviously, it has not. *in addition, i have random issues with my key not working or my car refusing to turn on. i am a single mom who has to work. i do not have the financial ability to buy a new vehicle and junk this jeep. i need this vehicle to work as it is supposed to work.

1. the vehicles head has to be replaced due to bad valves at only 59,000 miles. 2. the front right turn signal stopped working, and is burning the bulb socket and headlight housing. it was determined by an independent mechanic that the tipm module is going bad causing shorts, and other electrical issues. (the dealer claims it is a burned bulb socket, but we tested the socket, and entire system and found the true problem) 3. the horn stops working randomly, and sometimes when it does work its only the high tone. this problem is also traced back to a faulty tipm module.

Vehicle stalled on a busy road while traveling approximately 35 mph. i was decelerating approaching a traffic light and lost power steering, power brakes and engine shut down. after placing vehicle into park i was able to restart. this has happened twice in the last few months. the dealership is not able to replicate the issue or take further action to correct the issue.

This is the second time i've been in my home which has a connected garage and gone out in the garage to find the engine running and i know for sure it was off when parked. i believe the issue is with the key fob and other items in my pocket it's possible to inadvertently cause the key fob's remote start to be pushed in the sequence needed to remotely start the vehicle. at that point the vehicle is running and you have no idea. this could result in death if the door to the garage leaks and there's a build up of carbon monoxide. i've also experienced beeps from the cars horn like you receive when locking the vehicle with the key fob so i know it was most likely inadvertently started. very unsafe.

Having problems starting. mechanic says it's a tdmi recall issue

While driving 55 mph on the freeway the esc light came on and then my engine stalled, power steering and brakes shut off. i had to get to the side of the road and slowly coast to the exit! with my two kids (both under 4) in the car. talk about scary!!!! i had my car towed to a jeep service center and after 4 days with my car - they said they could not duplicate nor find any issues. i had to pay $200.00 for that answer.which i was not happy with!!! then today (july 12, 2015) while slowing down at a stop light - the same thing happened again!!!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the check engine light remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, only the codes were erased. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v879000(electrical system, interior lighting), but the part to do the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 89,627. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled and the steering column seized. the vehicle was able to restart. the failure recurred on six different occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 76,000.

On 5/25 approximately 2:30 pm while merging onto the highway vehicle stopped accelerating and steering locked up and engine stalled out while in the right lane of the highway. had to drift over to shoulder on left hand side on highway where speed limit 65 mph but drivers often do 75-80 mph. vehicle would not restart and had to be towed.

No voltage indicator light or voltage reader

I have a jeep grand cherokee 2011, with 58k miles, and my "ser 4 wd" and traction control lights are on. what could be the cause of this? the truck shut off while i was driving. the dealers told me when they checked it they find nothing wrong and maybe the spark plugs needed to be change. my back up camera works sometimes. when i asked why is this happening they told me maybe the circuit board may be bad. my head lights keeps going out ever 3 months, when i asked they told me there is nothing wrong with the lights, i may need to changed the bulbs to chrysler bulbs. what is going on with chrysler vehicles and why every time you go to the dealer with a known problem, they charge you a diagnostic fee of $125.00?

On or about april 20, 2015 i had just driven my jeep about 20 miles to get groceries came home unloaded and went back to start jeep to go pick up grand daughter at school and the jeep would not start. it would crank for about 30 seconds and then stop. tried to start 5 or 6 times. took my truck to get grand daughter. called chrysler and they sent dealer to get jeep. about an hour later jeep started then but they took it to check it out. after 5 days they told me i need a new battery. they wanted $355.31 for new battery. took jeep to 2 parts stores and they checked the battery and said it was stronger than what was posted on battery. on may 7, 2015 i was out at store and jeep would not start. tried about 6 or 7 times and then it started without my foot on brake but would not go into gear. restarted and was fine. called dealer and took back on may 8, 2015. dealer kept jeep over night and told me i needed a new battery. bought a new battery through my son in laws shop cost me $122.14. the dealer charged me $90.00 for the test. so i am out of $212.14 as of now. today june 13,2015 i went to start my jeep and it would not start. same as both times before. i know the problem is with the tipm and no test will show that there is a problem with it. called jeep hot line and they said there is no recall on this and no reports. to take it to the dealer and have them test it again that they could not help me with this problem because my jeep was out of factory warranty. i only have 32989 miles on my jeep. it only had 32627 on the second visit to dealer. i have extended warranty on the jeep but they charge $50.00 if the test don't show up a problem. so i am between a rock and a hard place. where do i go from here. i know there are a lot of reports on here about the same problem i am having. thank you for your time. *tr

I had the tipm fuel pump relay bypass "fix" done last fall after failing to start a number of times. it has been recalled since i had the repair done. i am now experiencing the exact same problem. it fails to start a few times each week, eventually starting after several attempts. i've taken my vehicle to a local dealership a number of times and they can't find anything wrong (no error codes). this is an intermittent starting issue and apparently difficult to diagnose. it's almost certainly related to the tipm. i continue to pay diagnostic charges since no "codes" are registering anywhere. ($150.00) until they get a "error code", they claim there's nothing they can do and it's not covered by my extended warranty. the internet is full of similar complaints for this make and model year. i just want my car to start and run well! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at various speeds, the engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle failed to restart. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the tipm was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 56,049.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact heard a tapping noise emitting from the engine as it lost power. the contact mentioned that the seat belt, air bag, and check engine lights were also illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the head assembly needed to be replaced. no repairs were made to the vehicle. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000.

Intermittently, the vehicle will crank but not start on the first try. usually only happens if vehicle has been sitting for several hours. sometimes it will start, but immediately stall. *tr

Was coming to a stop, getting ready to do a left turn and the car engine went off and the steering wheel locked. had to come to a complete stop and put jeep into park to start it again. started fine but was dangerous as this could have happened in the intersection. could have caused a crash. this is the second time this has happened and took it in for a recall already regarding stalking issue. please help *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic) and 14v391000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000. updated 6/30/15*cn the consumer stated the dealer kept the vehicle for 92 days. updated 07/02/15*jb
