Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v813000 (electrical system). the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. while driving and attempting to turn the vehicle to the left, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. in addition, the contact needed to depress the brake pedal with excessive force. the contact placed the vehicle in park and turned off the ignition. when the vehicle was restarted, it resumed normal operation. the failure occurred a total of five times with one of the failures occurring when making a right turn instead. the contact called orr chrysler dodge jeep (located at 900 truman baker dr, searcy, ar 72143, 501-279-3311) where it was determined that because there was no check engine warning indicator illuminated, they would not be able to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provide case number: 57815893. the contact was informed to have the dealer diagnose the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 100,167.
Purchased 5/19. reported engine stall while driving to nhtsa. took vehicle to dealer for brake recall. tech said air in brake lines may have caused problem. did not stall for a month and assumed solved. started again in august. very dangerous vehicle. stalls when slowing for right hand turns and left turns crossing traffic which almost got me into a crash on a highway. others have reported same issue and no response from manufacturer. cannot take passengers as this is a pending disaster and is unsafe
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. when the vehicle pulled out of the driveway at 5 mph, it stalled and rolled into the middle of the road. the contact stopped the vehicle and had to shift through all gears to restart the vehicle. the contact called gengras chrysler dodge (460 connecticut blvd, east hartford ct, 06108 860-956-5083) and was informed that the vin was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 104,000.
2011 grand cherokee overland 5.7 v8 approx 124000 miles stalled when turning left through intersection slowing from 50 to 25 mph. steering and brakes failed. all recalls have been performed. this was supposedly fixed with p54 (fuel pump relay). fortunately i was not towing my boat. this issue seems to have spanned many years and is extremely dangerous.
While driving and deceleration the jeep shuts off. no lights come on indicating that the vehicle is no longer running. the first clue is loss of power steering and brakes. this always happens within the first couple miles of driving. the jeep starts right back up and then 99% of the time won't stall again for a couple days. this is getting more frequent.
It has now happened several times in which i'm driving and the jeep suddenly loses all engine power, braking and power steering. this happens on the highway. there are never any warning lights or sounds to signal this is about to take place. this last time it almost made me cause an accident.
I was driving down the highway at 60mph when i let off the gas and hot the brakes to slow down for a corner the engine shut down and i lost breaks and steering. i was able to muscle the steering through the corner and coasted to a stop. i put the jeep in park, got the break pedal and started the vehicle back up. everything seemed to work again. when i lost the engine, breaks and steering nothing else was effected. i still had lights, radio and gauges. but, no warning lights or codes came on.
Takata recall. when my vehicle is in motion arriving at an intersection, and i decrease the speed, the engine shuts down and at the same time the steering wheel is stuck, making it impossible to turn, and the brakes get hard. i have already taken the car 3 times to the jeep shop and they have not been able to fix this problem. since this problem started 2 months have passed and it has already happened 4 times. the car does not show any errors on the screen or afterwards when they are read. it is very dangerous because it always stays in the middle of the intersection without being able to do anything.

On multiple occasions in the last few days, the brakes have failed to respond (extreme force is needed to push down on the brake pedal), which delays braking time/distance significantly. this is happening specifically when trying to disengage from cruise control. this almost caused a crash. the car had a break booster recall in 2017 and this repair was completed at that time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the brakes failed to engage. as a result, the vehicle crashed into a building. the vehicle was then shifted into park, but the engine began to rev. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed to a police tow yard. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was 52,832. *js
I received a letter jan/2018 for a power brake booster recall. took the vehicle into the dealership had the repair done feb/2018. june 5th, 2018 i pulled into the gas station and filled up, when i pulled out of the gas station i tapped the brake and there was nothing there. the breaks went completely out, i was forcing my whole body weight on the breaks to get the jeep to stop!! there was a truck coming and all i could think of is my small child in the back seat. i have very quick responses, but i was not expecting this to happen at all or even after a recall fix???? i have never been so terrified in my whole life and being so helpless in this situation! i am really shaken up and glad no one got hurt. it was too close to be a close call. chrysler you need to fix this issue or get all of these models off the road before someone gets seriously hurt or worse killed. now i have to trade this jeep in because it is a death trap and i will always be terrified to drive it especially toting my kids around. breaks are very important and this is a serious recall issue!!!!
Every 3 months apart or so my vehicle has lost power on the engine causing it to shut down on me when i make a hard left turn while applying my brakes. the first time that it happened it was on the freeway on my way to work out of nowhere my wheel hot hard and when i was pressing my accelerator it was not working. , the second time it happened when i was making a left turn and the same thing happened to me i had to get on top of the side walk because i couldn't steer it enough to make my turn. and my third time happened this morning while i was going under the bridge luckily for me no one was behind me but this problem is a situation ready to go wrong. out of all these times i have been alone in the vehicle going on my way to work in the morning. its always a scary experience for me. i do not feel safe driving the car. no codes no nothing. the steering wheel gets all hard that i can barely turn it to get on my right lane so i can put my car in park and restart it , from there it starts working fine like if nothing happened.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the battery warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the battery, the alternator assembly, and the pcm. the alternator assembly was extremely warm internally, which affected the pcm. the vehicle had to be turned off during the repair to further diagnose the pcm internal voltage shortage. the dealer (fred beans chrysler dodge jeep ram, 858 n easton rd, doylestown, pa 18902, (215) 348-7500) was aware that there were two recalls for nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v879000 (electrical system, interior lighting) and 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). a repair appointment was scheduled for may 10, 2018. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and informed the contact that the vehicle year was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system). the approximate failure mileage was 83,000. parts distribution disconnect for nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v879000 (electrical system, interior lighting) and 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic).
While making a turn the steering and the brakes locked up and the engine shut off, causing me to lose control of the vehicle. this has happened twice 8 months apart. i've done the recall for the relay switch in 2015. this happened again (2nd time) yesterday april 9th, 2018. i almost hit a car at a light it was terrifying. the dealership has my jeep now and said they can't diagnose unless they have an error code or unless it happens while the technician is driving it. is chrysler going to have people drive these suv's and ignore that people could die? this is an extremely urgent situation. i don't feel safe driving my jeep that i love. please help?
The car stalled and engine shut off while driving, decelerating around a left turning curve. lost acceleration capability, power steering, brakes, and electrical system (no emergency flashers). could barely control car and ended driving through curve, off the road, down into small ravine and into field. were fortunate to avoid road signs and telephone pole. car restarted after putting gear in park. very afraid to drive this vehicle anymore. not able to get appointment with jeep dealer for another week. research shows this could be related to faulty tipm. our service records indicated this jeep did receive chrysler group safety recall p54 (nhtsa #14v530) tipm internal fuel pump relay replacement, which states is a potential cause of the car losing power. seems to have not prevented the moving car from losing power.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 30-75 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. additionally, the brake pedal was applied, but failed to respond. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (autonation chrysler dodge jeep ram and fiat, 2201 victory dr, columbus, ga 31901), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer attached a history recorder to the vehicle. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle stalled and the traction control and service four wheel drive indicators illuminated. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified. also, while driving at unknown speeds on march 25, 2018, the windshield wipers spontaneously activated, the radio changed stations, the brake pedal was applied and failed to respond, and the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to landmark chrysler dodge jeep ram of morrow (50 mount zion blvd, morrow, ga 30260), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 33696515. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 66,000.
Part supposedly replace weeks ago at family chrysler/dodge/jeep (i am still waiting on visors to be replaced), but during the nor'easter, brakes locked up causing vehicle to slide. made three attempts to setup appointments with no success.
The push start button has issues starting the engine. there has been a recall for this and the issue still persists. the only way the dealer will fix the issue is if the problem is seen 1st hand and occurs for longer then 8 seconds. i have paid for multiple rental cars and spent multiple hours at the dealer to have this issue fixed and it keeps recurring. something needs to be done to fix it without re-occurrence. my final point is that yesterday when dealing with this issue my car started after its second try, i then drove onto the street and the engine shut off and the brakes locked up. luckily there was not any cross traffic because it could have caused a serious accident on a busy street with my daughter and myself in the car. this hse risk has caused me to be very concerned about the drivability of my vehicle and something needs to be done asap!

When driving at a normal speed, you can't stop the vehicle, if you need to stop suddenly the vehicle keeps rolling, you have to drive at a slow speed in order to stop the vehicle
At times while driving on the highway or city street, while in cruse, brake apply automatically without any vehicle braking in front of me. also at times while in motion, cruse system do not take for weeks, then without any notification, i would set it and it works as it should.
The vehicles stopping power is reduced at times. sometimes the brakes work fine, but sometimes i put my foot on the brake and it will not stop all the way. the stopping power is greatly reduced at times and i think there is something causing the problem with braking by what the manufacturer has done as my brake pads are fine and have plenty of life.
Hello nhtsa team, i am writing to you to ask that additional vin numbers be included in an existing recall. the existing recall is p60 / nhtsa 14v-634 for alternator failure. our family has two 2011 grand jeep cherokees and the alternators have failed in both of these vehicles prematurely. can you please include vin [xxx] into the recall. the alternator in both of our 2011 grand jeep cherokees, the 160 amp unit will suddenly begin making a very loud whining sound that can be heard loudly from within the cabin of the vehicle and within the engine bay. when the failure on the alternator occurs it is very sudden, one day it is working properly the very next day it is not working properly. we have invested a lot of time in discussion already with the fca department at chrysler. fca at chrysler is indicating to us that our vehicles have all of the matching "specifications" to meet the criteria within the existing recall but our vin numbers are not included, therefore they cannot cover the repair. the fca continually tells us that they are not sure why our vehicles are not included as all of the specifications on their end appear to be identical to the specifications outlined in the recall for the failed alternator. the issue when it occurs is very rapid, we drive the vehicle one day, no issue, and then the very next day when we start the vehicle immediately there is the tell-tail loud whining sound stemming from the alternator and the noise increases in decibels as the rpm increase. please include vin [xxx] in the existing recall. thank you very much. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
On multiple occasions, our 2011 jeep grand cherokee overland 5.7l engine stalls while braking and trying to turn corners. recall p54 to replace fuel pump relay to correct this issue was done in november 2015, but the issue has continued. most recently occurred sept 8th, 11th and now today the 14th. had vehicle in for diagnostics on sept 13th and jeep technicians were unable to find the problem. when this stalling occurs, there are no warning lights and apparently no fault codes generated. when motor stalls, we lose power steering and brakes and have ended up on the wrong side of road trying to get stopped. this usually happens when decelerating and braking to turn off or onto a highway.
On september 7th 2017 while driving back from jfk airport my car lost braking power, when i pressed the brakes the brakes touched the floor but the car would still keep moving. it almost caused me to hit multiple cars thanks to god i was in the left lane and went over a curb and grass and into a service plaza on belt parkway. this was very frightening, we could have rear ended the car in front of us going 55-60 mph. we got so sacred we were all shaking, we could have been killed or killed someone else. this is a serious issues. when i hit the brakes now the car slows down but does not come to a stop if you are moving fast. i called chrysler and they said there was a recall on brake booster which caused similar issue but according to them my cars vin number is not under this recall. the car has less than 63000 miles on it and this is unbelievable. i hope this will help someone from getting seriously injured. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while the driver attempted to reverse the vehicle, the brakes did not hold and the vehicle crashed into a light pole. there were no warning indicators illuminated. there were no injuries and a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster, which was remedied per an unknown recall approximately a year and a half ago, failed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and instructed the dealer not to do anything until the manufacturer's adjustor investigated the failure. the failure was not remedied. the failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
When driving the engine will turn off with no warning. since december until now, it has done this a total of 6 times. 3 of the times either merging onto the freeway or getting off of the freeway. scares me so much. i have been lucky enough to not have anyone crash from the behind. my steering wheel locks, and the brakes become very hard to push down on. its hard to move out of the way of traffic.
While decelerating and making a turn the vehicle has shut off which causes you to lose steering and braking. this has happened to me on 4 seperate occasions
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 grand cherokee. while driving approximately 40 mph and approaching a stop, the vehicle failed to stop. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000.
Today as i was leaving work my vehicle would not stop. i press the brakes and the vehicle kept going. this was a very scary moment as i was exiting a gate and almost went straight into the on coming traffic. it's time something is done about this vehicle as i am just experiencing more and more problems for the past 4 years. this vehicle continues to put my family in danger and expense.
My wife complained about her brake pedal going farther down and car takes longer distance to stop. a couple times she said the brake pedal went all the way to the floor so she pumped the pedal and said she was very lucky it stopped right before she would have hit something or someone. brake light then would come on while driving down road without even touching the brake pedal. afraid to drive it we brought it to dealer. they ended up replacing the brake booster at my expense. we had a recall done previously on the booster because the booster would get water in it so their fix was to put a guard over the already damaged rusted booster. if tested good at that time, they washed their hands of any damaged like rust that would eventually cause severe damage and cause the booster to do this. that's like putting shingles over a bad roof that leaked and is rotted. can you imagine the accidents that could and eventually will happen. i am sure some have happened already. the number one thing on a vehicle you do not try to short cut is brakes!!!!
The brake booster stopped working while i was driving with my family going 55mph coming to a complete stop. come to find out there was a recall for the break booster (p14) indicating that corrosion may occur and water could be ingested. chrysler put a shield (band aid) to prevent corrosion. this recall was performed and marked complete on my vehicle. one year and 7 months later my brake booster fails and the ever so helpful and friendly(that was sarcasm because they were horrible) associates at my local chrysler dealership did a diagnosis, determining that corrosion was not cause of my break booster failing. so now i have my personal mechanic replace the part. the part ordeed did not fit. also, the master cylinder is leaking. so now i need both parts, which will cost me in the upper area of $290, nor including tax. this is an obvious issue with the brake booster part. the whole part is deffective for the make, modle and year. chrysler is simply needs to replace the whole part. not put a shield(band aid) it hoping it will hold. i am not the only customer out there who is experiencing this same issue.
Took my jeep to autonation in littleton co. for brake booster recall. not sure what if anything was done to correct the problem. i continue to have difficulty stopping and can hear a hissing noise when the brakes are applied. i am concerned about the commitment from this jeep dealer to repair the problem. i plan on taking alternative options for repair. but wanted to file a formal complaint. this is a very dangerous issue and one that could cause serious harm to me or someone else.

Was slowing down from 50 mph to make a left hand turn. as i was entering the turn, at about 30 mph, the engine shut off. all dash lights still functional, radio was still on, turn signal still on. there was no sputtering. lost power steering and power braking (and any other items that are not functional while in "run" mode). shifted to "neutral", but it would not start because the transmission was not in "park". pulled to the side and stopped the vehicle, put it in "park". started like nothing had happened. there were no warning lights before shutdown, there are no service lights or obd ii codes stored in computer. was using the push button starter, the key fob was in my pocket.

On may 28, 2016 while navigating my driveway, my car suddenly accelerated forward and crashed into the back wall of my garage. damage was done to my home and my car. i had no control over the vehicle. hitting the brake and trying to hit the ignition button did nothing to stop the vehicle. on another occasion, about two weeks earlier, i had parked the car at walmart, pressed the brake and the ignition button to turn it off. while in park and the engine off, the vehicle lurched forward and bumped the suv sitting in front of me. i am now afraid to drive this vehicle! i have reported this incident to my local auto dealership and chysler corp. the damage is being repaired at my cost.
Vehicle was traveling down the freeway at a constant speed of 70mph with foot on the throttle pedal. traffic from an on-ramp forced a quick/sudden stop (quick transition from throttle pedal to brake pedal). the brake pedal was completely frozen and would not depress for an extended period of time (vehicle would not decelerate). forced driver to swerve off the freeway, and nearly crashed. non-emergency (quick throttle to brake transition) braking is still functional. the situation was able to be recreated by both the driver and the service tech at the local dealership. dealership confirmed that the issue is present on four other vehicles (one 2011, one 2012, and two 2013's) on their sales lot, as well as the vehicle in question. dealership confirmed this has nothing to due with recall p05 (similar scenario). dealership submitted a case to fca. fca had them replace vacuum lines, another brake booster, and the vacuum pump. the issue was still present. fca told them they could, at the expense of the consumer, try to splice some vacuum lines and see if the issue goes away. at the advice of the dealership, customer denied "troubleshooting" on their vehicle. fca told dealer this issue has nothing to do with the p14 recall that was replaced a week prior (replaced twice) on the same vehicle (brake booster), and is not covered under that recall. dealership is now giving the vehicle back to the customer with this condition still present.

I just read an article in the may 2016 issue of trailer life magazine involving ford f-150 and there brake failure issues. the exact problem happened with my jeep. i was pulling our camper (unloaded), down the highway at a speed of 60 mph when the brake light came on and the brake pedal of my jeep went straight to the floor. i got safely pulled over to the side of the road to check the fuid level. the master cylinder reservoir was low but not empty. i managed to get home, about 6 miles and the next day took the to jeep dealer where they found that the brake booster had developed a vacuum leak (they said) causing complete failure of braking system. dealer replaced brake booster, did a complete brake job, replaced all rotors and flushed system. $1350 later i was back on the road. until i read this article i thought it was an isolated incident. hopefully it is a coincidence.
