Serpentine belt failed causing loss of power steering. i did not realize what had broken until i looked later, but i was lucky that i was very close to home as it could have caused major engine failure since the belt also drives the water pump and alternator. *tr
The vehicle has been experiencing stalling a couple of times before at low speeds. also failure to start and a fan like noise coming from around the fuel pump. chrysler issued a recall on the fuel pump relay, but i am seriously concerned since this is an issue with the tipm and that is not being addressed. the dealership is scheduling 2 months out hoping they would have the part by then, while i am driving with 2 kids in a car that shuts off on the highway at 50 mph. *tr
My vehicle is having issues starting/stalling, and sounds like the water pump and/or alternator is failing. i went to the dealership and they said this is all tied to p54/nhtsa 14v-530. the tipm parts are not available to fix this issue, and have not been available since i received the first recall notice back in october 2014. the dealership said the parts are not going to be available for weeks, possibly months. i called jeep/chrysler and they also said that is the cause of my problems and they have no date that recall replacement/correction parts will be available. i asked them what i should do since i'm driving a vehicle that doesn't want to start (takes multiple attempts), that stalls out, and that other components under the hood are being affected. they said they will not cover any towing, or rental costs, and had no guidance on what to do besides "good luck". this is a serious issue, i can become stranded, the car could stall (potentially while driving and this car is always on highway high speed driving), and i now have other parts under the hood that this issue is taxing (alternator, battery, water pump, and i could only imagine what else). what am i supposed to do that i'm forced to drive a vehicle with a recall that is not safe to drive? i can't even pay to get this fixed, there is no solution at this time. i don't understand how the vehicle is not recalled entirely and taken off the road, or that if people are experiencing this issue there is no recourse. no free towing, no rental cars ready, no ability to trade in or buy a new vehicle. nothing. i'm not sure what to do next, get a lawyer? contact bbb? please let me know as i don't see how this is legal, i'm being forced to drive a vehicle with a manufacturing defect that is dangerous. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I had an extremely dangerous situation occur on november 15, 2014 with our 2011 grand cherokee. around 7 p.m., i was merging onto interstate 95 south from 332, the newtown, pa exit. i did a hard acceleration to avoid traffic bringing up the rear. the engine then accelerated uncontrollably ... so fast that the tachometer was pinned to the right side ... into the red zone near 7k. a later check of the vehicle maximum speed on the garmin gps revealed it peaked at 97 m.p.h. with my foot completely off the gas pedal, the engine was pinned to maximum revs. i honestly thought it would disintegrate. in the span of a few seconds, i knew not to shut off the engine, as i would have lost steering. i had the presence of mind to put the transmission in neutral, to at least stop the speeding. the engine continued to rev out of control. i believe i was kicking the gas pedal, and the engine eventually released its grip on speed and returned to near-idle, upon which i re-engaged to drive. if a car were anywhere ahead or near me, a devastating wreck would have been the result. i took the jeep to the reedman-toll service department in langhorne, pa. they could find nothing that would confirm the incident. i contacted chrysler customer service. an agent named [xxx] took my report and said he had no similar reports. i find it distressing that nothing in the jeep 'black box' recording system would have a record of this potentially catastrophic incident. the reedman service advisor speculated that i may have 'reset' the software if and when i was kicking the accelerator while the event was under way. I was out driving from the grocery store and i was pressing on the breaks to turn a curve the vehicle speeded up. i was originally going 25 mph and started to slow up because i was approaching a curve but instead of it slowing down it sped up to 35mph while going around a curve. thank god no one else was on the road at that time. two weeks later my husband stated that when he was driving the vehicle the same exact then happened to him. at that time we took the vehicle back to gilman chrysler and jeep in houston tx where we purchased the vehicle from (8/10/14). they claim they tested the vehicle and found nothing wrong with it. my husband and i kept explaining to the service guy that something is wrong with the vehicle and we don't want to get into an accident for an issue that can be resolved. the service guy stated that they did all they could but they will keep our information on file. i am very upset with this situation. my husband and i have three children in which are in this vehicle all the time. there have been several recalls on this vehicle and none of which have been repaired because gilman chrysler would state they don't have the part or they don't see a recall at this time. i want something to be done about this now before something terrible happens. i will not let this situation go. i will continue to fight for a resolution until someone resolves it. please contact me immediately about this situation as this is the only vehicle that we have.

I was driving home on the interstate an my jeep just stalled an turned off while i was driving an when i attempted to restart it kept acting like it was trying to but then wouldn't after a while i was finally able to get started again an i have had the same thing happen a few different occasions an have almost been hit or unable to pull off out of traffic . *tr
The first time my jeep stalled i was going around a turn and almost crashed into a highway barrier. i waited a couple minutes, turned my car back on, and kept driving. the second time it stalled, about 1 month later, i was turning into my driveway. it would not turn back on at this point. i brought it to the dealership and after 2 hours of diagnostics they informed me it was the tipm and would be $1,200 to fix. after searching online about this part, i noticed many other complains of this same issue for a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. this is clearly a faulty part and should be recalled. if my vehicle had stalled in different conditions, the results could have been fatal. *tr
Prior to receiving the current recall on my 2011 jeep grand cherokee, i was merging onto the freeway and my jeep lost complete power. i started to panic because there was nothing i could do to control my jeep. luckily, i was on the outside lane and just coasted to a stop. then, i sat there for about 10 minutes while i called my wife to let her know she would need to come get me. then, i went to see if my jeep would drive one more time and it drove off just fine. then, when i received this notice i called the jeep dealership to ask them to fix my jeep due tot he recall and they told me that they were waiting on parts and would let me know when they come in. however, now my air bag lights are on as well as my traction control light is on. i also intermittently when i push on my brakes it will feel as if i have been rear-ended. when i look behind me there is nothing there that would indicate i have been rear-ended.

A 2011 jeep grand cherokee with 64,000 miles on it is sitting in my driveway, as it will not start. i find it appalling that a car that is 3 years old can have so many issues plaguing it. it is a money pit. there is a cylinder 2 misfire (needs cylinder head), a torque converter code, and a faulty fuel pump relay on the 'totally integrated power module'. the safety of my family, and the consumer in general, is compromised - when a $30,000 vehicle has the potential to stall while driving. when working, the jeep decelerates while driving, has low power and idles very irregularly. i am very disappointed with my purchase and with the fact that chrysler stands for such faulty products. *tr

Driving in to work and completing a corner (vehicle traveling approximately 30mph) when engine stopped running (accessories stayed on). no warning lights previous to the incident or after. lost power steering and brakes. was able to muscle car around the corner and coasted to a stop. vehicle is push button start so i pushed button to turn accessories off, then attempted to restart the car. restart worked with no warning/problem lights. completed drive in to work with no other problems. this is the first time this happened. called dealer (ziegler kalamazoo) and told them what happened and got soonest available service appointment (one week from day incident occurred). called chrysler to report incident as was told they would make a note in my "file", but could/would not take any other action. chrysler recommended working with the dealer. *tr

Vehicle will not start. i am told it is related to a tipm failure. 1300 dollars to fix on a car that is out of warranty with less than 20k miles. the part is also ok back order for over a month. i am told there could be random deployment of airbags also. *tr
Bought this vehicle in june 2014 with 36,700 miles on it from somerset jeep in somerset ma. 1st issue was car was having trouble starting. taken to quirk jeep in marshfield ma on september 5th issue was fuel pump circuit does not power up in tipm installed relay harness and fuse starts fine now. cost is $375.68, which i had to put on my credit card. 2. car starts smoking, which terrifies me and my 7 year old son for fear of the jeep blowing up or catching on fire! so i have to have it towed to quirk by aaa on thursday october 16th. they tell me that it is a problem with the module in the fan. the whole fan has to be replace for $1000.00. don't get car back til monday night october 20th. it isn't covered under warranty and i can't get a rental car unless i pay for it. i can?t work or do anything! quirk gave me a break and only charged me $400.00 but that is still a lot of money for a single mom who was without her car for ?4 days. 3. wednesday october 22nd my check engine light comes on. the issue is evap leak, star case open for fuel filler tube. ordered filler tube as not in stock. quirk says they will help out again a little, but charge is going to be around $400.00 but won't know until it gets fixed sometime next week and it takes about 2 hours for repair. more time lost from work. 4. november 16th---car will not start. it will not turn over or make any noise. triple a came out to the house, got it started once and then it shut off and would not start again. aaa guy said it is not the battery. car being towed to quirk jeep right now on 11 17 14 at noon. quirk says 'no idea when they can look at' my jeep! i pay $434.37 a month for my jeep loan! car has about 47,000 miles on it now and i am terrified to drive it for fear it won't start! i can't work. i have no money for christmas! what do i do? please help me! *tr
When cranking my vehicle it begins to stall and sounds as if it is flooding. it continues to do this until i can get it to turn off. the stalling is continuous. when i took my jeep to the dealership they informed that the problem i am experiencing is due to a defective totally integrated power module, or tipm. this defective part is the cause of the problems i'm incurring with starting my vehicle and it's stalling. while researching the issue i learned that the tipm can "prevent the fuel pump from shutting off properly, cause headlights and taillights to shut off, and can cause random and uncontrollable activity of the horn, windshield wipers, alarm system, door locks, and airbags." *tr

Recall p54/nhtsa 14v-530 my jeep has stalled 5 times in a year. called chrysler about this recall and they do not have the parts to fix it. took it to the dealer and was told the same thing. i ask both of them, what if it stalls and i am in a crash. there responds was that they hope that doesn't happen. my question is what can i do about this situation? thank you *tr

I began having difficulties starting my vehicle about a week ago, the engine would continually turn over without actually starting (push button start). each time i would have to press the start button multiple times and let the vehicle cycle through multiple failed attempts until the engine would finally start. however, this morning, after cycling through multiple attempts and getting the vehicle to start, the engine shut off while i was driving. after the engine shut off the dashboard read as if it was still running. i was unable to start the vehicle after that and had to push it out of the way (was luckily still in a parking lot). *tr
Vehicle would not start due to failed totally integrated power module. the tipm would not send power to the fuel pump and engine would not start. chrysler knows about this problem but fails to take responsibility for the defect. *tr

My car (sitting in the garage at a shopping mall) would not start, i tried to start it 5 times, then let it sit a bit and tried it again and it started. went directly to eastside chrysler jeep and they repaired it for me. it took a day but cost me 1,310.00. i see there are quite a few cars with the same problem. my car's warranty was still in effect, but the dealership did not honor it. saying it was a second owner vehicle. sorry, i bought the warranty when i bought it and it should have been honored. now knowing what i know now that it is a defect in the electrical system, i am lucky i wasn't stuck out on the freeway. i feel like i was taken advantage of and think the company owes me a refund since my car is under warranty. *tr
Driving home from work on a friday afternoon, while making a turn in residential area, the engine cut off and the steering locked up. the radio, instrument panel and a/c were all still on, so did not immediately realize the engine was off. was able to restart after putting vehicle into park. fortunately, no other vehicles were behind me or could have been worse. dealer not able to find what was wrong since they could not replicate it, so was not able to repair problem. has not recurred, but now very scary driving, not knowing if it will happen again. *tr
It began a couple of weeks prior to 8/14/14 where the car would take several tries to start. i would press the start button and the car would not turn over and start. finally on 8/14/14 it was at it's worst taking many more tries and barely started when i left work and again picking up my child from school. i made it home but it wouldn't start again after that. we had the car towed to the dealership on 8/19/14. we were informed on 8/20/14 that it was an electrical issue that needed to be replaced costing $1300. the items repaired as listed on the invoice were tipm kit tip 080350 and core return. *tr

On saturday morning after pulling out of a parking space my car stalled and lost power steering. i put it in park and restarted engine it was fine. went to other store, parked it and the same thing happened once i returned to leave. when i got home i shut off the ignition switch and after app. 8 seconds i heard a sound coming from behind the fuse box area or at least behind that area . sounded electrical "vooop, vooop" i also noticed when going up an incline around 30 mph the car had a huge delay, i had to push the gas pedal practically to the floor, and than it kicked in and zoomed off. i felt like i was loosing power and than the car took off on its own! crazy feeling!!! i feel as though the computer that is in charge of the car is out of wrack and the car has become inconsistent to drive because of what could occur next. i also lost brakes this winter while driving due to brake booster failure which eventually became a recall. i was scared then and i'm afraid this incident may result in something bigger and worse. :( *tr
Several attempts were made throughout the day to start my 2011 grand jeep cherokee and it would not start, only a clicking noise. i took it to the dealer immediately and the tipm is bad and needs to be replaced. obviously, my car is only 3 years old and not under warranty now. the part alone is over $900.00, which seems questionable that something would go bad so quickly on a vehicle and cost so much to repair. besides the cost, there are so many complaints for the same issue, and even more serious with the engine cutting off while driving. is someone going to recall this item before someone gets hurt or even killed????? i purchased this vehicle, and all my previous chrysler/jeep vehicles thinking they were safe for my family; now i'm not so sure. do the right thing and recall the tipm! in addition, i have made several attempts to get the brake booster repaired due to the recall and the parts are still not in. this has been going on for months now. *tr

I have a 2011 jeep grand cherokee limited with approximately 32k miles. i began seeing an issue several weeks ago where the engine would crank but wouldn't start (using push button starter). eventually it would start. over the last several weeks the problem has intermittently reappeared but seems to be getting worse as it's taking longer to start once the issue is seen. i've noticed that if i use the key instead of the push button it'll start right away. in what i initially thought was unrelated i also experienced the engine simply cutting off while driving. fortunately i was only driving about 5 mph on both occasions in which this occurred. please contact me if any additional details are required. thank you, *tr

The jeep would not start on the first try. it either cranks and cranks and never turns over, or it turns over but never reaches a good idle state and just shuts off. after a few attempts, it would finally start and be ok until the next time i leave it alone for an extended period. i believe the symptoms i am experiencing are the same as those that have been reporting a problem with the tipm, which seems to be a very pricey item that jeep (chrysler) knows is faulty and have done nothing about. not to mention that it is also an item that is on national back order with a class action lawsuit filed as well. *tr
When trying to start my jeep on friday 7/25 i found that when i push the start button the vehicle would not turn over. it would engage and attempt to turn over but would not start. i tested the battery and it read to be normal and upon further review i found many other consumers had the same problem, the vehicle would randomly not start. this happens to me about once a month since we purchased it in march of 2014. i've read from others there is an issue with the tipm which will cause the vehicle to not start or completely stall out while driving which did occur one time to me in june on a trip from ohio to maryland! *js
On july 19, 2014 my vehicle ceased to start properly. it would turn over and over and after several attempts would finally start. additionally, there were several incidents of stalling at a stop sign or exiting the freeway then difficulty restarting. this became more and more frequent, and each time my mechanic was unable to pinpoint the cause. september 4th is the last day that my car started. i had it towed to the mechanic who after having possession of my vehicle for 3 weeks unable to pinpoint the issue, found through research that chrysler had announced a massive recall for this exact issue. he referred me to the chrysler recall specialist phone number, which i called immediately. my first four phone calls were nothing more than a run around game until i found the information on nhtsa website. according to the nhtsa recall information, repairs were set to begin 10/25/14. according to chrysler, the notices were set to go out by mail on 10/31/14 the gentleman assured me that i would also receive an email recall notification to provide the repairing dealer on 10/31/14. i make an appointment at rancho jeep for recall p54 repair at 10am november 1. 10/31/14, 3pm, i have yet to receive an email notification. i call chrysler again and am now told that i had been misinformed, it is a preliminary notice, no repairs can be done. my jeep is still nonoperational, since september 5, 2014. the vehicle cannot be repaired because there are no parts to replace the faulty part with...i have had a rental car for almost 3 months because of this recall issue, costing nearly $800 each month. chrysler refuses to accommodate a replacement vehicle or reimburse rental expense wholly or partially. my vehicle would be operational if not for this factory recall p54, and i would not have incurred $2400 rental car expense to date. *tr
