Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2015 Jeep Cherokee

When downshifting there is and abrupt shift in the 18-22 mph range. with icy roads this could cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle and cause serious personal injury. *tr

Vehicle speeds up when brake is applied, downshifting is jerky and uneven. transmission has been replaced once. symptoms are the same.

2015 jeep cherokee latitude. experiencing lunging "jolt" when gas pedal is "carefully" used especially after a stop. slight but noticeable acceleration while coasting or braking. periodic unusual revving in lower gears while accelerating. vehicle taken to the dealership for "flash" and multiple re-assessment but dealer states vehicle performs as "designed". dealership states multiple complaints for the same reason by other customers. case workers from fca offered transmission warranty extension for life but retracted offer after it was found we have already purchased extended warranty. case worker then offered 2 years worth of oil changes. the offer was refused so complaint has been closed for the second time.

Vehicle had driveability issues with transmission slipping in lower gears. car has received three software updates to transmission control module prior to this incident. *tr

Vehicle purchased end of august, noticed hard shifting and rpm surge almost immediately. software update in december, by the end of feb. vehicle was going into what the dealer termed as limp mode, service engine and trans. indicators loss of power, parking brake comes on etc. transmission replaced in march at 5000 miles. since then the vehicle has had several software updates to no avail. dealer currently has had vehicle for 10 days to replace valve body and a harness. acuras with these transmissions have supposedly been recalled. why hasn't chrysler done the same before someone gets seriously injured or worse.

Purchased vehicle nov 2014, shortly after i noticed it would shift irregularly and the vehicle tended to cruise on its own when off the gas. what made me take to the dealer was i noticed that when coming to a stop, the rpms of the engine will increase and cause the car to start going faster while applying the brakes. so i took to the dealer. dealer did not investigate the issue. they preformed software updates. none fixed the issue. time passed, the jeep started to develop more noises in the transmission, it started to put gears harshly so i took it to the dealer again after it continued to do the same issues. dealer claimed there was an issue with the transmission and it was replaced along with updates. new transmission and same issues. jeep tries to cruise when off the gas, tries to accelerate when slowing or braking, rpms go up when slowing, noises coming from the transmission, irregular shifting, does not feel like a new car. took to the dealer about 3-4 more times since transmission swap for software updates and nothing got better. the jeep is actually getting worse. now it has starting slamming in gears when coming to a stop, has some sort of wobble when accelerating, noises from the front (sounds like clutches slipping or something) and dealer has no fix. i had a ride along with dealer rep and they claim its normal for the vehicle, that its software and i must wait for updates. it is now oct 20, 2016 and i have lost countless time and money trying to get this jeep correct. i have tried to get the dealer to give me my money back and they do not. i opened a case with fca when transmission was swapped and they have not helped to get out of the car. why should i be stuck with a faulty and dangerous vehicle? fca and dealer should be held responsible for the sale of a faulty vehicle and refund me in full. the vehicle should be considered a lemon from day one

When coasting or coming to a stop, jeep will accelerate/jump forward while in 4th gear. this is very dangerous on icy roads. *tr

I am at a stop sign with cross traffic that doesn't stop, with a mph limit of 50, there's a gap big enough for me to go through the intersection. i put my foot on the gas pedal, jeep slowly advances forward but not engaging into the correct gear, it's starting out in 3rd gear! when it should be shifted into 1st, coasting through these lanes of oncoming traffic, i am rocking back & forth in my seat saying 'come on jeep, shift! let's go!' as i look to my left & right & see cars getting closer to me, my heart beats a little quicker at this point, especially when my 2 year old son is in the car with me. finally half way through the intersection jeep drops down hard into1st gear from 3rd gear & boom we are off, whiplash, sounds of a transmission fallen to the ground, heart beating so fast it's going to explode but we get across the road in the nick of time of the oncoming traffic! same scenario has happened several other times, i could go on with stories but i think you get the picture.this happens so much that i don't know what to do.the dealership that i have gone to, of course, can't duplicate my issue but they're told that this is a common complaint they've been receiving from other cherokee owners. i've also had the software updates done. i did get a recall notice for possible incorrect info. in the user guide/owner's manual regarding flat towing vehicles which may result in vehicle shake while flat towing over rough roads.this is recalled but a transmission issue isn't? jeep claims that they depend on the satisfaction of their customers for the success of their business & are constantly monitoring the quality of their products & looking for ways to improve their vehicles, even after they are sold. i am not asking for anything except for this issue to be resolved. i know jeep has acknowledged this issue but i would like to have jeep come up with a solution.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee latitude. the contact stated that the traction control system would erroneously activate each time the driver's foot was taken off the accelerator pedal, followed by a warning chime. when the failure would occur, the transmission could not be used in reverse. the contact also indicated that while stopped at a red light on a slight incline and secured in drive, the vehicle would roll in reverse. the failure recurred also on a flat road surface and while the vehicle was stationary. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but no information regarding the cause of the failure was made available to the contact. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 450. mailed out 01/13/15*lj

Vehicle was traveling on interstate highway when service transmission light came on in the stored messages, then the malfunction indicator light and service engine light came on. within minutes, driveability issues became apparent with no acceleration and slipping gears/unable to shift into gears. once the car slowed/stopped, the vehicle was unable to shift into lower gears to move. the vehicle had received the p56 recall to update the computer software to the transmission control module one month prior to this incident. *tr

10nov14 returned the car to the dealer for p56 recall.24nov14 mil turned on while driving w/ 1099 miles. returned car to a dealer in thousand oaks.tech resets mil & erased codes. 4mar15 mil turned-on again w/ 4375 miles on the car. i was driving it on the freeway then it starts to lunge & skip gear, depressed the acceleration pedal & wouldnt accelerate & was blessed i didnt get into an accident & made it home safe.trans temp reached over 258 deg, doesnt accelerate properly & lunges all the time.everytime the gear is shifted it takes 5 sec to engage & lunges again w/ very loud knocking sound after it engages.error codes showed up on the reader: u1504 intake control module mal, p061b internal control module calculation performnce, u0140 lost comm w/ body cntrl module, p07d9, p10a1 abnormal oil pump volt/ovrheat, & p1daf.i didnt drive the car after that & called up nearest dealer in ventura ca.advisor scheduled an appointment after telling them what happened.16mar15, brought the car to the dealer in ventura to have it inspected w/ the problems that i have provided & left the car w/ 4375 miles.17mar15 advisor informed me that tranny needs to be replace.25mar15 i contacted jeep chat online & was assigned a case number.1apr15, received the car back w/ a new tranny installed.4apr15 the car started to lunge again slowing down & tries to accelerate by itself.shifting of gear takes 3 sec to engage, lunges & a very loud knocking sound will also be heard again.airbag light came on & error code u0140 showed up again.car was unusable again & wasnt safe to drive.scheduled an appointment again w/ the dealer.6apr15, returned the car to dealer to be inspected w/ problems that i have mentioned w/ 4808 miles.as of today 20apr15, car still in the state of unusable condition & unsafe to be driven.i havent got it back from the dealership repairs.no resolutions have been made yet by chrysler co. *tr

Have had two times the vehicle transmission warning came on to "service transmission" with no response from depressing the accelerator. at these two times the vehicle was at a full stop and the dash was full of warning lights for different things. when the transmission was shifted from drive to park, there was a loud and violent jerking by the transmission. this transmission has had it's software updated many times, which has not helped. dealer tech was able to observe this condition and replaced the transmission valve body. after replacing the valve body and after driving about 50 miles on a interstate highway, the service transmission warning came on. took the next exit and stopped at a traffic stoplight, the car would lunge and jerk violently trying to go. shut the engine off and let the car reset itself. will not drive the vehicle again and will ask chrysler to supply a rental vehicle at their expense until they have replaced my vehicle. this makes three times the vehicle has been in the shop for transmission problems. this transmission issue as far i am concerned is a major safety issue. *tr

I bought the car mid october 2014 and began noticing it did not shift properly - would "hang up" in lower gear when it should shift. took it to the dealership (mileage aprx 2,500) which said it was "throwing codes" so they adjusted the transmission. this still did not correct the issue so i took it back and they said they could find nothing wrong but did make a minor adjustment but the problem continued to get worse. at aprx 5,700 miles they put a new transmission in the vehicle (probably may 2015). in june, the vehicle began to falter when it was trying to shift and while driving (happens at any speed) and, while sitting at stop lights it would surge forward with my foot on the brake. the dealership has adjusted it twice since then. the dealership has offered to sell the car at auction for me and jeep wants to send in a "star repair" team to work on the vehicle some more. i have had this car already worked on 5 times and no one has a clue of what to do to repair it. it is dangerous in that when you pull into traffic and the car falters/stalls out it can create a potential wreck or when it the engine surges on its own a risk of running into something exists. i don't think selling it at auction just to pass the problem on to someone else or "hanging parts" on it in hopes they can fix the problem is the answer. the car now has 10,600 miles on it; has not been abused and still does not run properly or safely. i think this vehicle is a lemon and both jeep and the dealership do not want to take responsibility for a faulty product that is dangerous to drive

I have a 2015 jeep cherokee latitude, 6 cyl. ever since i drove it off the lot, if at a complete stop and accelerate to enter traffic there is a noticeable long pause when i gun it. many times i have had to pull to the side to avoid getting hit. also when accelerating on the expressway when hitting the gas, the vehicle pauses before accelerating. this also has caused near collisions with other vehicles due to the long pause before finally accelerating. i have told the dealer about the problem everytime i go there for an oil change. they have updated the computer system many times with no results on fixing the problem, they tell me that i am not the only one with this issue. the 9-speed transmission has a lot of problems i am told, and they still have yet to find a real solution. someone is going to get killed thinking they can pull out in front of traffic only to find the vehicle has a long hesitation before accelerating. i was planning on giving this car to my son, but there is no way i would let him drive this vehicle with the above mentioned issue. the dealer has too long ignored, or are ignorant of this potential life threatening issue with acceleration problems. other than that issue the vehicle has been decent. *tr

The transmission does not automatically downshift out of 3rd gear when coming to a stop or at a brief stop resulting in loss of power at take off. trying to accelerate from a stop while in 3rd gear results in significant delay in power. this hesitation is similar to stalling which is very dangerous when pulling into traffic. jeep has stated that this is normal and that you must always come to a complete extended stop before the transmission will down shift. this is not feasible when a complete stop is not necessary or required like when a light changes to green when you are coming to a stop, or you are merging into traffic with a yield sign. this is an accident waiting to happen, or is already resulting in accidents that are classified as your vehicle didn't yield to right of way, even though this stall like scenario is the primary contributor.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving at a low speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the malfunction light and service transmission light remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions. the technician diagnosed that the transmission computer needed to be re-reprogrammed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken to a dealer a third time where it was diagnosed that the valve body needed to be replaced, but it was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 930.

I am filing this complaint about my 2015 cherokee latitude because the vehicle was repeatedly shifting itself out of drive into neutral while the suv was in motion. i had the vehicle for 12 days before this happened. i was compelled to file this complaint for two reasons. first, in doing minor internet research about this problem, i discovered this was an ongoing issue with the new 9 speed automatic transmission that chrysler was aware of way back in october 2013 and was ?supposed? to fix with the 2014 model & subsequent models after that. i have a brand new 2015 model and this issue has not been properly addressed & fixed at all. it?s obvious that the proper amount of qa was not done if this is still happening. secondly, the main reason i wanted to file this complaint it because this issue of shifting out of gear while driving is a critical one. i am extremely lucky that i was not involved in a collision with a vehicle driving behind me when my suv suddenly & repeatedly stopped moving. my concern is that other drivers with these new 9 speed transmissions may not be so lucky. this issue could easily result in injuries or death if not properly addressed. *tr

Started the car and several warning lights were on check transmission, service parking brake called the dealer & were told it was safe to drive as long as the lights were not blinking.lights were not blinking drove toward the closest dealer (we were on vacation) we were told by the dealer the car may reset itself and after a few minutes of driving lights went out #2incident - jan 7, 2015 stopped at a light and check transmission, service parking brake came on again, rpm 's were high but the car would accelerate slowly called the dealer and drove it in. two days later will driving the car warning lights come on the car cuts out on me it has power but the car will not accelerate. coasted to the side of the road. turned the car off and on the lights were still on the car was able to accelerate. pulled into a parking lot. after an hour i started the car, the check engine light was on so i proceeded home. at a light the car lunged forward ( i had my foot on the brake) the car would not accelerate. after turning the car off and then on the car still had it warning lights on the rpm's were high and the car would not accelerate properly. i was told there were program errors and the car was fixed. march 17 the car starts making a humming sound. march 18 on the way to the dealer i stopped at in intersection started to accelerate and all the lights came on and the car just cut out on me. i was stranded in an intersection. called the dealer who told me to turn it off then on, which i did the car moved slightly rpm's were high, car was not accelerating properly. the car violently jerked when i engaged into park or drive. .i was able to drive to the side of the road. car is at the dealer and has been there for 8 days. i feel the car is unsafe to drive and i am frightened for my safety and my family.under ohio law it has met the standards of the lemon law. *tr

The transmission lunges won't shift right bangs, sometimes the rpm will raise quite a bit then bang into gear it jurky when shifting sometimes the rpm will raise to almost 3000 befor shifting.the jeep has 11500 miles on it i had the jeep into the dealer after first couple months of ownership i have had it to the dealer about 4 or 5 times for this problem last monday was the last time right now i have a jeep customer rep and she wants me to take it back in wednesday may 18 to have a tech rid along again the dealer says they know about the problems but their is nothing they can do until chrysler has fixes for the transmission. this vehicle is not safe.

The powertrain is frequently unresponsive and there is often a significant lag time between pressing the accelerator and receiving any response from the powertrain when trying to accelerate from a full stop. sometimes the vehicle responds immediately but other times it feels as if it can take a full second or more for the vehicle to respond. while this is not a big issue when accelerating from a stop light, this has become a significant issue when making a left turn across oncoming traffic because the vehicle cannot be counted on to respond and begin accelerating in a timely manner. the dealership service has responded that problem may be my driving or my inexperience with the active assist ii transmission, but my previous car was a hybrid, i know about engines stopping at signals. nevertheless, the car stalls less if i disable the active assist every time the engine starts, although not completely. the dealership said they reprogrammed the system but the problem still exists.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that there was a progressing failure of which the transmission independently shifted into a lower gear without warning. the reverse gear completely failed to function and the vehicle was towed to brandywine chrysler jeep dodge ram (3807 kirkwood hwy, wilmington, de 19808, (302) 998-2271). the dealer provided further diagnostic testing and replaced the transmssion assembly. in addition, the contact stated that the steering wheel independently turned left when the contact was attempting to turn right. the wheels were out of direction when the failure occurred intermittently. the vehicle was towed to (keffer chrysler jeep dodge ram, 8214 e independence blvd, charlotte, nc 28227, (877) 406-5245) for further diagnostic testing. the manufacturer authorized a loaner vehicle for the dealer to further diagnose the failures. the dealer stated that the element was out on the battery and the manufacturer covered the replacement of the battery. the condition of the vehicle was still unstable. the manufacturer provided a case manager, but there was no permanent solution yet. the approximate failure mileage was 100.

Transmission is faulty. numerous difficult shifting issues, particularly after stopping and restarting. the vehicle has been taken back at least three times for reprogramming but the condition still exists.

Loud noise from the engine/transmission then the car completely shuts down and comes to a complete stop in the road. the car will then restart all systems with check engine light on. has happened and been taken to the dealership for repairs on 10/20/2014, 12/1/2014, 12/3/2014,12/12/2014,12/22/2014. dealership nor chrysler know what is causing the issue and will not do anything except try to repair. i have concerns that if this issue happens at higher speeds on interstate what would happen. *tr

Bought 2015 jeep cherokee brand new off the lot was so excited to own my first jeep after 600 miles transmission failed and had to be completely replaced i was without it for 23 days. after i got it back and noticed the transmission either lunges forward when making a turn or looses power and reves up then engages took it back and dealer says we are aware of problem but there is not a update or fix for that.... i have never felt more unsafe or unsure about driving or trusting a vehicle than i do now. i have been back to dealer to have many updates/recalls done and tcm had to be replaced not just updated... i wish i never purchased a jeep . o yeah i almost forgot the washer fluid liquid housing container is leaking took it to the dealer they said it has a crack in it defective so they need to order a new one...... ugghh what next?

9 speed transmission is unreliable and very rough to drive. won't shift up when it needs to, on occasions slams into gear especially from 3rd to 4th jerking the vehicle when it does and downshifts roughly. the software has been updated twice but problems remain. dealerships say that there is nothing more that can be done. this has been ongoing over the life of the vehicle.

Vehicle was parked. i put vehicle into reverse and all warning lights came on - service transmission/service park break/engine light. turned off vehicle, turn back on and vehicle jolted and would not move. turned off again and let it sit for a few hours. started the vehicle and all lights are illuminated (park brake and check engine) but vehicle runs. took to dealer, they did an update to the computer. happened again around 8200 miles - same result from dealer (update to computer). took to dealer a total of three times - the third time warranted a full transmission replacement. vehicle still does not drive properly - hard shifts, especially when deccelerating.

I had the vehicle at the dealer to have the transmission reprogrammed as per their recall and after picking it up i was driving home and making a left turn at a busy intersection and pushed on the gas and there was no response from the vehicle like the transmission was in a high gear and had not shifted down. the light turned red and the only way to get the car to respond was to floor it and the it shifted really hard and took off. it happened two more times in the next two weeks and we have taken to the dealer again and they did another reprogram on it and now it has a bad lag time when you have to shift it all the way down such as to pass a car. the dealership admitted that jeep was having issues and that he had another car identical to mine coming into the shop that day. people are going to get killed with these transmission issues. i am an automotive technician for 40 years and driving my own car scares me real bad. we bought this car because we live in a snowy climate and i wanted my wife to have the best four wheeler available. the dealer said that chrysler has five men working on this programming issue and i think they should have a hundred. people are going to dye and this problem is all over the internet. i hope that this will resolve faster than the toyota issues that killed a lot of people and injured many more. *tr

After a simple first required service of an oil change, the engine light came on. we learned that this engine light coming on was the result of the dealership service department performing a recall campaign service to reprogram the transmission and powertrain control modules. the campaign to reprogram the transmission control modules was completed, without our knowledge, during the time the vehicle was in for the oil change. the vehicle was brought back to the dealership twice more in two days to "figure out" why the engine light was coming on. the dealer is now replacing the entire transmission. *tr

The nine speed transmission is horrible at lower gears. the accelerated transition between second and third gear cause the transmission to slip and lunge the car forward. another issue is during a yield intersection the transmission either doesn't engage, stays at the lower gear or slips follow by a lunge. my father purchased a chrysler some 30 years ago and vowed he would never repeat that mistake - the car won't run in the rain and transmission dropped. he laugh when i purchase the jeep should have listen to him. i too vow never to purchase another chrysler product.
