We have classified the 679 complaints from 2015 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Went to start vehicle and all shifter lights came on as well as a message which read "service shifter". was unable to drive vehicle. later restarted vehicle and message was gone. this is the first time this has happened but it appears that hundreds of others have reported the same issue on this site.
Not switching gears properly. there's a hard jerk/thrust while trying to automatically switch gears. thought i got rear ended how hard it jerked! while turning on a very busy highway car has went from drive to neutral several times while driving. which can cause a major accident. almost did! this has happened on several occasions can't recall specific dates and times but just recently on 02/09/2020
Since 2015 when the jeep was purchased i have had several times when the rpms would go up to 3 or 4 and i was not accelerating the gas when it happened. it acted like transmission problems . the jeep dealer could not fine anything wrong and would update the computer, it would last for several months and then the same thing would happen. on saturday february 8th 2020 i parked the car in a parking lot and returned 3 hours later to a car that would not start , lights would work and the battery appeared dead. i got a hotshot to try to start the car. it did start but there was no power steering , no power brakes, the engine was running rough and the lights were clicking off and on. the code stated service transmission restart in park with vehicle at zero speed. and would change to service park brake. when i turned off the car it would turn on again and it was towed to the jeep dealer and they will look at it on monday feb, 10th. i will know more at that time.
Transmission lurches when shifting going down the road. hesitant to start moving from a complete stop. when coasting down hill feels as if transmission shifts in to neutral and vehicle begins to accelerate. all instances were on city streets.
While my pregnant wife was driving to a doctors appointment, the 2015 jeep cherokee suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. the vehicle was traveling at 45mph when this event occurred. the jeep finally slowed to a stop in the middle of the road. the engine continued to run, but the vehicle would not move. the vehicle was turned off and then turned on again. when placed in 'drive' the vehicle made a loud thud. when the vehicle was placed in 'park' it made a grinding noise. the vehicle's parking brake suddenly engaged and could not be turned off; this made it impossible to move the vehicle to the side of the road. we waited 30min for a tow truck to move the vehicle from the middle of the road to a firestone for evaluation. firestone indicated that it was a problem with the transmission. we then had to tow the vehicle to whitten brothers jeep dealership for evaluation. we were informed that the vehicle will likely not be covered by the powertrain warranty due to the time requirement. the 2015 jeep cherokee only has 83,000 miles. i bought this vehicle new in jan 2016 and expected the vehicle to last 15-20 years. if my wife had been driving to work instead of a doctors appointment, she could have been stranded on the interstate with vehicles driving 65+ mph; this would have resulted in a serious accident with injuries to my wife and unborn child. this is a huge safety concern that jeep is obviously not taking seriously.
Vehicle hesitates from stop and then after a couple of seconds lurches forward. very concerning when pulling out into traffic as you are never sure how quickly it will accelerate. has been occurring since we bought the vehicle.
Service shifter notification keeps coming on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, and merging onto the highway the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle lost motive power. the contact stated that the check engine warning light remained illuminated. the contact stated that after several seconds the vehicle started to operate as intended. the contact stated that the service transmission warning message was then displayed on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the transmission and transmission control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not contacted or informed of the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure and a case was filed. the approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
After 10 days vehicle staying in my house not using i tried to start engine and my battery was down. buy new battery and instal and when i start the engine i get on my dash bunch of warning lights on and message. service parking brake my transmission not working properly and when you try to switch from parking to drive or reverse getting clunk noise and driving only in one speed maybe 4 or 5th speed on dash blinking d or r and odometer
Check engine light on, warnings auto/start/stop system failure. 4wd temporarily unavailable. car stalls while in motion. loses acceleration city and rural driving conditions. engine knock from premature cam shaft wear.
Since new, we have had problems with the transmission hesitating and lurching. from a stop, or from a slow speed such as when coming out of turning a corner, the transmission will hesitate to "hook up", as though it is slipping, then suddenly throw you forward as it "hooks up / catches". it is very dangerous at an intersection when you may be trying to get through the intersection as cross-traffic is coming, and your car will not move at the speed you need it to, then suddenly it will lurch forward. at other times, the transmission will clunk at 40 mph as though someone has struck the car from behind. we have had the software flashed by the dealership two or three times. usually this worked for a short period of time, but the problem always returns. the second transmission issue is that the shifter will malfunction, while driving the car, and throw an error code of "service shifter". when this happens you do not know what gear you are in. again, very dangerous. all of these problems occur when the vehicle is in motion.
I was stopped at a red light and my service transmission light came on, when the light turned green i step on the gas and there was a delay during acceleration, i was in the middle of the road in traffic and could not move more than a few miles per hour, so i pulled over to the side of the road to avoid being hit. i waited a while on the side of the road and then i tried driving home, it started very slow until i got going and then it jerked and shifted randomly. i took it to my mechanic and he told me to take it to the dealer to have it reset/ updated.
Service shifter light has come on multiple times while driving.. prnd all light up. goes away after car is restarted.
While driving service shifter light comes on screen & all lights on shifter are red. city streets & highway. this has happened several times shut off car & the service shifter light goes off.
Faulty oil cooler. have replaced this part 4 times now and the oil and coolant still leaks everywhere. the part should never have been made out of plastic and plastic rubber gaskets that attaches to a metal frame. and of course it goes out right out of the warranty window.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while reversing out of the driveway, the gear failed to engage properly. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to bill luke chrysler jeep dodge ram (2425 w camelback rd, phoenix, az 85015, (602) 249-1234) where it was diagnosed that the battery terminal and fuse box failed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred multiple times. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). the failure mileage was 77,000.
I have had my car in the shop twice for gear shift issue as well as a blower motor 3 times. if i replace this blower motor it will be the 3rd in 2 years. the gear shifting issue was supposedly just an electrical issue according to the dealership and the upon returning with the same issue i was told an entire gear shift replacement was necessary on my 2015 jeep cherokee. a supposed recall existed but per jeep customer service is was only for cars build in 2014 in the month of october. however in a follow up call today 12/13/2019 jeep was unable to find any recall related to the gear shift or any electrical components that would affect the gear shift or transmission. i would like to request a tracking of calls, emails, reporting of all related issues to jeeps built in 2014 labeled as 2015 that potentially have these issues and a response to how many vehicles need to be included to warrant a recall. the vehicle issues happen both in park, drive, neutral and in reverse.
This is follow up to previous complaint 11281573: dealer received jeep via tow and found stuck in neutral as i described. let sit overnight and dealer indicates jeep will only go in reverse, later in day second try jeep drives fine and no codes to report a problem to fix. cannot identify failure since no "codes" were available in system. dealer drove vehicle several times without problem of going into neutral occurring. i picked up vehicle and drove home. next morning while making a signaled left turn no city street, jeep goes into neutral, coast to adjacent parking lot crossing over one lane and stop. vehicle engages into drive so i proceed. returning home a few minuets later and at about 50 mph jeep again goes into neutral, i remove foot off accelerator but engine accelerates to about 5500 to 5800 rpm as i coast to side of road (quite shaken at this point due to accelerated engine). check engine light comes on during this episode. wait a few minuets to calm down and restart jeep. transmission engages and return to dealer. dealer finds code is due to difference between wheel speed and engine speed- not transmission related. several service techs drive jeep throughout the day without problem. later in day driver experiences neutral condition 3 times while test driving- still no codes to id problem. adviser contacts mopar extended warranty (max care unlimited mileage) but cannot get auth to repair without "codes". dealer has opened a "star case" with factory.
The transmission has major operating issues. i am experiencing hard shifts, delays in power at start and in middle of turns. most seriously now the transmission completely stopped working all together out of the blue. i was sitting at a red light and when the light turned green it had no power and i heard a grinding noises from transmission
While driving at 70 mph in fast lane of major high, slight uphill grade, engine rpm increased rapidly and loss of power transfer to wheels as if in neutral. coasted to side of road (fortunately light traffic) and at about 25 mph transmission engaged and i returned to highway. in about 5 more miles same loss of power to wheels occurred and then re-engaged as vehicle came to stop. following day, after about 10 miles while at 55 mph, jeep again lost connection to wheels and engine rpm increased. pulled over to side of roadway (local county route with moderate 2-way traffic), stopped engine. started engine several times but transmission would not engage in any gear (reverse, fwd etc.) in any selected gear location. this jeep has active drive ii. had jeep towed to authorized service. dealer response possible overheated ptu, will require further investigation. my research indicates may be part of recall s55/nhtsa 16v-529.
Shuts off after starting, display screen blacks out and radio doesn't work, engine light and brake lights come on and off. heat and air conditioning settings keep resetting to halfway between hot and cold. shuts off and slams into park or neutral. gears drop heavily when shifting from park to drive. computer keeps resetting. these things usually occur after starting and pulling away. you need to stop and restart the jeep. these things have also occurred at 65mph. this has steadily been getting worse over the last 4 months.
The dash warning light it tells me to service the shifter but every mechanic i talk to says it not serviceable it effects the manual shifting when the light is on it wont shift manually i don't know what to do it will come on and i turn the engine off when i turn it back on its off it doesn't always come on but it is coming on more often it comes on when vehicle is in motion sometimes it comes on when i start it if it was on when i shut it off it doesn't matter if i'm city or highway driving it just comes on
Have had 2015 jeep since 19000 miles nothing but issues after purchase. shifter light comes on had it looked at they fixed the shifter. a month later same light this time they replaced the wiring and a bezel. well guess what's broken again and i'm no longer under warranty. this part keeps failing why do i need to keep paying for a bad design. why can't they figure it out. also my car has had a hard shift at 40 mph cant wait for that bill. car is always in motion with failing shifter.
So i have 2 different issues with my transmission. first issue is when yielding ( not stop) ill give my jeep gas, it feels as though im in neutral and my engine rpm goes up wont move, all of a sudden it'll find itself peel out and take off after about 3 seconds or so. secondly when coming from a complete stop taking off once the jeep gets to about fourth or fifth gear or so the rpm gets to abut 3,000 before switching to next gear it makes this huge knock sound and it feels like i just hit a huge pot hole. both these issues are intermittent. but its really scary when happens with on coming traffic. it happens on city streets and highways.
The transmission has been an issue since day 1. when you shift to drive and hit the gas it will move forward a few feet and then stop and stick there. after a few seconds it will kick really hard in to gear again. it's gotten worse over time and now i don't dare pull away from a stop sign unless i see no cars coming for fear of being stuck in the middle of an intersection. i've taken back to chrysler dealership many times to have it fixed but they've never corrected the problem. the mechanic told me they new it was an issue when it was manufactured.
Since purchasing 2015 jeep cherokee it has been more at the dealers than my home. it has been a nightmare, problems with transmission, sensors, and radio etc. it has been replaced numerous times for substantial defects and it continues to do so. this falls under the lemon law. it's getting to the point i am seeking an attorney, if my warranty is not extended and this is not fix at no charge to me. last night the jeep stop in the middle of the freeway almost caused an accident with warnings of (shift to p then desired gear) and service airbag system. this is my life you are playing with, for you're on going defects. i am a loyal jeep customer. i have a jeep wrangler, jeep compass and sebring chrysler. all i am asking is for my piece of mind and not worry about paying for anything when i have a defected and it's not safe to drive. please respond and solved this problem asap. thanks again and have a bless day.
Driving 55 on rural highway, transmission message appears. car would not downshift or up shift. pulled into a driveway and turned the car off. issue seemed to go away and get me to my destination. upon my return trip issue also returned 4 more times. this is a huge safety risk, had this happened while turning on some of our roads it could easily cause a very bad accident. car has had issues before with service shift messages, as well and a slew of other issues documented by the dealer. all to do with powertrain.
I have 2015 jeep cherokee latitude. sometimes check engine light comes on and then is gone after few hours or day. some times message blinking "service park brake service transmission" then like something was wrong with system does not save clock time or a/c put me on heath and auto light does not stay on. sometimes when i start the car and release the park bark brake car jumps hard two or three times and after i turn engine off without using parking brake and back on everything is fine.the car only has 55000 miles. i'm so afraid to drive car because don't know what can happened
Automatic start/stop system doesn't always engage. the transmission stays in 3rd gear after coming to a stop at a stop sign or traffic light and the car has high revolutions and jerks unit it down shifts to 1st gear when the gas pedal is pressed. causing hesitation in engine and putting me and my family in close calls for accidents.
3-4 months after purchasing my 2015 jeep cherokee sport i got a "service shifter soon" message and all the lights on the gear shift lit up. i had the car towed to a dealer and they "fixed" the problem under warranty. now, out of warranty, the same message and lighting of the gear shift lights is happening again. it usually happens right after starting but has happened while driving a couple of times.
We bought a 2015 jeep cherokee in 2016 and without being told of the issues with the transmissions issues. we have had our jeep in the shop four times with transmissions issues of shifting hard and now going into neutral when in drive and the brakes going hard and the jeep coming to a stop. the anit slide has now came on and the jeep shakes . the updates came one day when i was getting onto the highway going 65 mph and the jeep went to 30 mph with my grandkids in the car and two disels one behind me blowing the horn because he almost hit me and one to the side of me. my husband was coming home from a dr visit again the jeep went into a neutral state while in the drive position and the jeep stopped and he was almost hit then the jeep jerked and went into gear so he went into a shopping center and had to stop and kill the jeep and restart the jeep to make the jeep restart just to get it home. it went back to the shop that night! we have had the jeep in the shop for hard shifting when taking off and now it is hard shifting when taking off and down shifting, anti slide randomly comes on, brakes are not properly stopping the car. go to the dealer where we bought it and they only offered $7500 for it when we owe $15, 000 and this is so ridiculous. called jeep and awaiting a call, they stated they have to call the dealer. in the mean time i had to buy another car because ours is to unsafe to drive! the jeep is sticking in gear and the tac meter is staying on 3 or 4. then when you turn the jeep off and turn it back on it may or may not work. we have backed it out of our driveway and put into drive and it shifts so hard into first and second gear. now since the last time we picked it up from the shop the jeep has now started loosing power when you attempt to drive. we have parked the jeep and decided it isn't safe!
The vehicle (2015 jeep cherokee limited) self accelerated while in a parking lot and nearly caused an accident. in addition, at times the vehicle has a problem shifting when accelerating (sluggish/hesitant) around 30-40 mph and then abruptly drops into gear, jarring the vehicle while in motion. at times, while accelerating, the transmission seems to delay and then abruptly drops into gear. we do not feel safe in this jeep after the the sudden unintended acceleration. we have brought the vehicle into the jeep dealership for inspection multiple times to check the sluggish/hesitant/hard gear shifting and all that i am told is that they cannot replicate the problem. i shared with the dealership that this issue only happens from time to time and it is unlikely a mechanic driving the car for 10-15 mins will be luckily enough to experience this oddity, which is exactly what happened. so basically i am being told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, as far as they can tell. they did update the shareware, but the issue continues and with the sudden acceleration, the safety of my family is my main concern.
The service shifter notification has come in multiple times. it has been in the shop to be fixed twice. it has since come on again. it sometimes comes on when the car is started, other times it comes on while driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. on several occasions, while driving various speeds, the vehicle shifted gears improperly. additionally, the vehicle hesitated while driving and experienced hard shifting into gear. the vehicle was taken to lewis chrysler dodge jeep ram (3311 n college ave, fayetteville, ar 72703, (833) 551-7843) where it was diagnosed that the pcm software needed to be updated. the software was updated; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the transmission was replaced; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was less than 36,000.
April, 2019: every thing on the dash lit up. car started to roll and we had to jump out of the car to stop it. it wouldn't go into park, but parking brake worked for a while. car wouldn't turn off, locks wouldn't work. nothing worked. towed to dealer with jeep on the whole way. a 18 month old child was with us. dangerous. repair did a tcm fix and said this was a catastrophic event that would not happen again. october 2, 2019. pushed the start button ' car started but couldn't push down on brake. couldn't move out of park. would turn it off and it would turn right back on. had it towed to dealer - have not heard back. in addition have had transmission issues for last two years. car lurches when going around 30 mph, stalls a bit when just starting out driving from a stopped position
For the last few months, my jeep jumps ahead at red light or when you put it in drive. its like someone else is stepping on the gas pedal. sometimes it delays to launch, when you step on the gas it takes 10 or 15 seconds. and most importantly, the computer disengages the transmission and the engine will only idle in drive, cars following g are forced to drive around the vehicle. i was told by jeep today, my vin number is not in the vin associated mass recall for the transmission issue and i have found, hundreds of the same issues on 2014 and 2015 9 speed transmissions. the vehicle is not safe and is a hazard to other motorist, due to jeeps design issue and lack of ownership and responsibility. my jeep has 62,048 miles on it.
Transmission is dropping to neutral while driving. this has started to happen multiple times and it is becoming a concern.
2015 jeep cherokee latitude 4 wheel drive. it is under warranty for transmission, etc. using oil, ( evaporates?) and is a known issue with this make model and year. called jeep and was advised to get it into service immediately due to known issues, but they would not allow me to make a complaint. jeep has been trying to stall out while driving, at stops, hard shifts, brake comes on automatically, completely stopped in the middle of the road while driving, and oil has somehow disappeared from it, but no leaks.
The transmission in our vehicle acts like it unexpectedly goes into neutral. when the vehicle slows down at a red light or due to stopped traffic, but does not come to a complete stop, then we attempt to accelerate again it acts like neutral for approx. 3 seconds then suddenly slams abruptly into gear. if the vehicle comes to a complete stop it seems ok. the vehicle transmission seems to reset to 1st gear appropriately. i am concerned because it is a safety issue plus the slamming into gear cannot be good for the transmission. this problem happens repeatedly and consistently during the above described condition. i have contacted fca and so far i am not satisfied with their response. a vehicle should not have to have a cel on or a completely damaged transmission for them to act appropriately to repair an obvious problem.
While driving on the expressway, i received an error message saying service shifter and all the lights on the gear shift turned red. i pulled over, parked the car, and turned the car off. after a few minutes, i restarted the vehicle and the message and the lights had cleared and were off. however, after doing some research, i discovered that this is a common issue with this particular vehicle. affecting jeeps years 2015 and beyond. many other owners stated that we should all report this issue to see what can be done, since many stated that even after getting it fixed, it remains to be a problem. i've only had this car for about 4 mths and it had less than 50k, on it when i got it. i definitely don't want to have major car issues this early on.
Service shifter warning comes on at least three times a week. all transmission modules light up in red while vehicle is moving r, n, d, etc. many times if you stop and turn vehicle off, take the key out & restart, it will go off just to come back on a few minutes later. this has happened while driving on the highway at 70mph. primarily comes on while vehicle is in motion. if it ever decides to put itself in park or neutral while on the highway this will cause a major accident. dealership has done two resets and system/computer updates.
Hello, im second owner who got this suv 2 months ago, 50000 miles and yesterday while i driving start feel the transmission dont doing right, also when i stop on the corners the car made one more move like someone hit me from behind. finally something on the lcd dash told me something like "check and restart the transmission and some light went off, and in the gear start blinking on d. i was on 101 goleta, caliornia.
As i am driving my car stahl's and everything shuts off. this typically happens as i am making a turn. this typically happens as i get closer to the date of my next oil change. the car shuts off completely and i must coast to a stop. after waiting about a minute i can restart the engine. this is a very dangerous situation as i am typically turning to cross traffic.
I was parked and tried to start my car, it would not crank up. turned it off and it hesitated to start again. then i tried to shift it into reverse, it was blinking and it jerked like when someone hits you from behind really hard. as i tried to reverse the steering locked and it hardly wanted to brake. the service brake light and engine light came on. it has happened twice now and each time it gets worse. it's not a safe vehicle to drive.
Service shifter message came on screen and all gears (prdn) light up red. vehicle slowed down to a complete stop in middle of two way traffic. then, another message appeared "to shift vehicle must be stopped" and engine cut off after can no longer accelerate. have to turn off engine and turn it back on by removing key completely from ignition and starting it again. very scary. this has happened multiple times. first time, it was inside of a parking lot driving in circles looking for a parking spot. second time while turning left at a two way intersection...car stopped midway into oncoming traffic, third time was also turning left (coincidental) after crossing over into oncoming traffic and safely reached the street i was turning into, but vehicle slowed down completely in transit to said street and could not accelerate anymore...was going at a base speed of maybe 3-5 mph. took it to dealership first time and they said it was a system update issue. it was not because issue occured again. car is in shop again now and they said have to replace prndl switch. not sure what that is. i saw a recall done for a very similar issue on the 2014-2015 jeep cherokee, recall code is chrysler s55. but dealer said my car is not a part of that recall. please research issue. i have come across 30+ forums online where 2015 jeep cherokees are experiencing this same "service shifter" issue. there has to be a recall done. i have a video of issue. please reach out to me for more info.
Transmission problems-rough shifts, sticks in gear, warning lights "service transmission" 4wd not available, service parking brake all come on. dealer has updated software and it still is not fixed
Car has been stutter starting. once it finally starts i get an error code that says service park breaks service transmission. then when putting jeep into gear the transmission will shift hard and you can feel the car jerk and hear a clunking sound. once you stop and turn the car off and back on a couple of times the error messages will go away and jeep will drive normally. two days ago jeep had been driving normal. i stopped to get gas. after filling my tank i returned to the car to start it and the car would not start after inserting and turning the key i would not get a click or nothing. i also had no lights, not on the dash or out side of the car. after trying to jump start the car unsuccessfully i ended up having the car towed home. once home the battery was removed and taken to be tested. i was told the battery was bad so i replaced the battery and jeep started up fine however after starting i received the error message service park break and jeep again would shift really hard. error message went away jeep started ro drive fine. drove to the doctor and when i pulled into parking space jeep got stuck in neutral. finally got the jeep to go into gear and went to drive back home and jeep would not shift right and again jumped into neutral where it got stuck. finally got home and parked jeep waiting to get it into the dealer now. jeep has 95000 miles on it.
Shifter need service warning message. this problem has been widely noted on google as a problem with this vehicle. warning light comes on, all position lights on shifter comes on. sometimes vehicle will stall. usually when vehicle is turned off and restarted, there is no more problem. it will recur at irregular intervals. my dealer doesn't seem to know what the problem is, but some apparently replace shifters and/or its wiring and wiring harnesses, and problem still persists. it has led to my vehicle just turning off or shutting down at dangerous times such in heavy traffic with difficult restart. this usually occurs when driving the vehicle, sometimes while or after making a turn. van be on residential streets ot worse the highway with no warning other than the message.
Power train/engine recall. i brought my vehicle to the dealership to let them know my vehicle accelerated when i applied my brakes and it does this all the time. they said it was some module that needed to be adjusted or updated and the problem was not fixed. the problem is not fixed and it just the other night while driving down the road i applied my brakes because a car pulled out in front of me and the jeep lunged forward then slowed down. this is an ongoing issue amongst others with jeep cherokees because i have asked my neighbor and others ive met with jeep cherokee's and they have all mentioned this happens to them as well. it is in the jeep forums, why is this issue not fixed, to be honest i don't feel safe driving my vehicle. i'm in the military and have to drive over 60 miles per day to and from work and this is unacceptable. it happens pretty much every time i drive the vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving, the vehicle had difficulty shifting into the next gear and the rpms suddenly increased. the contact stated that the vehicle tended to overheat and the coolant burned off although there were no visible leaks. in addition, the transmission warning indicator illuminated and the overheating indicator notified the driver to turn off the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to bob moore chrysler ram dodge jeep (4627 s memorial dr, tulsa, ok 74145, 918-663-6343), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 87,000.
