We have classified the 679 complaints from 2015 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Vehicle shimmys when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. also lunges forward when braking in slow traffic and stop lights/signs. called dealer was told this is normal.
When slowing, after removing foot from gas pedal, but before appling brakes.vehicle lunges forward..almost hit another car in parking lot. and at times when accelerating vehicle engine reves up but dosent move forward for a few secs..not good when turning left in traffic...
Transmission responsiveness has very long (greater than one whole second) delay from driver input to actual power delivery. this leads to frequent near misses in dense traffic, particularly merging from a secondary street to a highway. i have not driven any other vehicle with a delay this extended.
I entered into a lease agreement in april 2015 for a new 2015 jeep cherokee limited, as time went on i noticed that the vehicle was shifting very hard, and at times it would lunge forward after having came to a stop for such things as stop sign, red lights and traffic delays. the vehicle has a 9 speed automatic electronic transmission in it and further noticed that the vehicle wasn't going into the upper gear ratio. i contacted the dealership where i leased the vehicle from, and they took the vehicle in and did a computer update on the electronic transmission. since then, and as of very recent times, the vehicle is once again doing the same thing again. with added issues, in that that now after coming to a stop and taking my foot off the brake and accelerating, the rpms go up, but the vehicle doesn't move, and then suddenly will lunge forward. i have the vehicle scheduled to go back to the dealership on mon sept 21st.
3rd incident where the transmission has suddenly disconnected and the car will coast to a complete stop. messages read "4wd temporarily unavailable", "service park brake" first incident happened at about approximately 340 miles, second incident happened at approximately 3500 miles. first two incidents were on the highway - one at 45 mph the other at 60 mph. the third and most recent was on a residential road. once the car has been pulled over, car has been put into park, then turned off and turned back on. usually it takes 2 or more tries after turning the car off and on and back into gear before the transmission re-engages and the car can be driven. paying attention to the vehicle information for the transmission temperature has shown the transmission can reach 208 degrees from town driving conditions on a 75 degree day. photo evidence has been taken of the readout for the transmission temperature. the model of the jeep cherokee is the trailhawk with 9 speed transmission. after 3 flash updates upon second time in for service the issue persisted and another issue with the stop/start system began and has been frequent up until the third time being taken in for service. messages will read "stop/start system is unavailable", "service start/stop system". vehicle is in dealer service currently for the third time for next steps.
I have a 2015 jeep cherokee latitude 4x4 v6 just did the recall update with a oil change. i also was almost hit from oncoming traffic. car wouldnt go as i was trying to make a left thru traffic! i am lucky that the other car didn't hit me it was within inches! it also speeds up as i slow to a stop! the transmission lights and the a! comes on after 4 updates now it shifts bad and has been the the shop for 2 weeks with no idea what they are going to do next! the mechanic at the dick hannah dealership is on vacation now! they said they are waiting on parts they ordered even though he has not took the transmission apart yet! i get 2 different stories from the dealership and jeep! i think this car will hurt someone if they dont fix this issue! at this point i dont feel safe with my family in this " future accident maker"! i spent well over 35,000 for this car!
Transmission hesitates sometimes when taking off from stop, transmission does not want to go into gear until you come to a complete stop, when accelerating to 35 mph there is a hard shift into the gear for that speed, the car when accelerating does not want to accelerate and have almost been hit from the side several times, i have had car back to dealership to inspect at least 4 times. 2 times they have updated software for transmission, but only have seen minor improvements. still having all the same issues as before.
When my 2015 jeep cherokee sport reached about 3000 miles it began having acceleration problems when i began to decelerate at stop signs, traffic lights, or in traffic. when the vehicle decelerated it always had a one or two second occurrence of rapid acceleration causing me to slam on my brakes avoiding collisions. this became worse as the car approached 4000 miles. i would then have problems accelerating into traffic and had issues with excessive rpms before shifting into the correct gear. i scheduled a visit to me dealership upon my return from vacation. the friday before we left for our return trip home from vacation my wife put the car into drive and the jeep shifted into reverse for several seconds before shifting into drive. very dangerous. the very next day we were on our way home from vacation and got 4 miles on the highway (130 miles from home) when i reached 60 mph the transmission service light and check engine light came on and the car would not accelerate and began to stop in high speed traffic. we coasted off the road with my young children in back and had to be towed to the nearest jeep dealer which was 130 miles from our house. the dealer has seen this before and seems to think it is a software issue. they will reinstall the software (which didn't work the first time) and test the car for several days. when asked if this will occur again they gave me no reassurance, saying it's software and not an actual part. i was advised confidentially by a serviceman at the dealer to speak to an attorney as i do not feel safe for my wife and young children traveling in this car without any reassurance. it is a very dangerous situation which it seems jeep knows about but will not address correctly until fatalities occur. should not happen with a 2 month old car. looking at the lemon law but it seems to need 3 occurrences which by that time may lead to a fatality.
Purchased new and drove home 60 miles parked vehicle for about 45 minutes. drove to nearby parking lot to test out park assist, pressed park assist button and then reverse, then drive and vehicle would no longer move. dash warning lights came on and message service transmission and restart vehicle. turning off and restart transmission made some attempt to slam into gear but seemed to be locked in high gear and could not move. we were fortunate to be in low traffic parking lot and not in heavy traffic. jeep roadside assistance towed the vehicle to nearest dealer.replacing transmission. vehicle was built january 2015. trailhawk with 9 speed transmission.
Mine is 2015 new jeep cherokee v6 limited model. the problems mainly lie in the zf 9 speed transmission. 1) experienced front end wobbling when shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear accelerating at 1750 rpm to 2000. the vibration happens most frequent when starting from uphill. 2) the vehicle will accelerate on its own even without gas pedal engaged when down shifting from 4th to 3rd or lower gear, causing significant safety issues.
Purchased jeep and have had safety issues with inconsistent shifting since day one. i have returned to the dealer 19 times for shifting issues and other complaints. at the present time i continue to have a "service shifter" light come on in the vehicle. the light comes on while the vehicle is in motion. you can try to reset the shifter to let the computer try to recognize the error, but it doesn't work. technicians have told me not to drive with the light on as the car may shift in a different gear or even reverse. chrylser star technicians keep resetting the software, however the light continues to come back on randomly. i have expressed my concerns and fears with the shifting, however they do not know what is causing the problem nor how to fix the issue so they continue to reset the computer. i do not feel safe driving the vehicle as i never know when the light will come on nor what it will do. found error codes u146500 and p1c861d. performed flash updates. dates of issues: 6/29/15, 07/17/15, 09/06/15, 12/01/15. i also have problems with inconsistent shifting and take of. you can try to accelerate and the car will not go but the rpm's will rise. the car will suddenly take off after a 4-5 second delay. this has caused me great fear as sometimes you will go to turn and the car pauses before taking off. by the time it does take off you have turned in front of an oncoming car. again chrysler star technicians have told me i am "over sensitive" and the car functions as any 9 speed transmission is designed to do.
I leased the vehicle on 6/17/15. within a week the service park brake light came on briefly. dealership said it was a fluke. a few days later. back sensor beep would not turn off while driving. dealership said it was a fluke. a day later power lift gate wouldn't work for a day. dealership said it was a fluke. when i called the dealership the first time they proceeded to tell me car was sold to me with a reprogramming airbag recall so i took in to get fix & have other items looked at. they never looked at other issues. a week later service brake light came back on i took in immediately. after 3 days sitting in the shop they said 25 codes came up & not sure how to fix. after a week of them having the car they said it was fixed. after 10 hrs of having back the transmission light came on. i took back to service & the mgr said car is unsafe and would request a new vehicle for me that would take 6 wks to get. he also told me the dealership they got my vehicle from had issues w/car and never said anything. in the week i haven't had the vehicle i've been given 6 loaner cars. 1 of which broke down with service park brake & transmission lights on and could not shift. i have demanded chrysler to cancel my lease and return my funds owed...updated 09/22/15 *bf the consumer stated the ncds arbitrator and chrysler agreed to release the consumer from the lease. the consumer would also be reimbursed. updated 12/9/2015*js updated 12/21/15*js
Went in for software update for transmission in april. started experiencing differences in shifting which i was told would be normal and the result of the software update to prevent wear on the transmission. gradually got worse, had moments of loss of power when trying to pass/accelerate even with the gas pedal all the way to the floor. had moments of acceleration when pulling into traffic where there was considerable hesitation in the transmission before finally engaging in a very low gear, sticking in that gear even with rps very high, finally shifted but did not allow for proper acceleration to get out of the way of traffic in this type of situation. also experienced issues with down-shifting when coming to stops at intersections, the transmission would not downshift in the lower gears, so all stopping power was in braking even when gradually coming to a stop which should be aided by the down- shifting of the transmission. vehicle also was not able to maintain speeds well while in cruise control. sometimes it would take off going over 10 mph over the set speed, sometimes it would lag well behind the set speed. could feel transmission constantly shifting from one gear to another to try and maintain the constant speed on flat ground. check engine light finally came on. transmission is being replaced. today is day 22 without my vehicle as it sits in the shop waiting for a very popular back-ordered part to be installed behind a wait list of other customers.
Going down hill, the car accelerated 8 to 12 miles an hour faster than the cruise was set for. car keeps accelerating until you hit the brake. does not hold the set cruise speed limit. i brought it to the dealer and after 1 1/2 hours they told me my cherokee limited was not equipped with an adaptive cruise control with stop and go. i was told by the service writer i just have to hit the brake until the decline is over and then hit resume on the panel. i know this is incorrect so is there a fix for this? we are taking a long drive trip to pennsylvania and i will need the cruise to enjoy my trip. the consumer stated the issue was the transmission. updated 10/15/15*jb
Dealer did a software flash for pcm for 9 speed auto transmission june 15, 2015 and since then it will not downshift into first gear unless vehicle comes to complete stop. transmission will not downshift entering highway. it shifts are sluggish when going from reverse to drive. sometimes it slams into first gear when i pull away from stop. dealer said no warning light goes on so its okay. there was nothing wrong until they did software flash.
I was backing up my daughters driveway. her driveway is a little steep and when i went to give the jeep more gas the rpms dropped from 1500 to idle and then back to 1500 rpms really quick, it did this a couple times. the dog ended up on the floor of the car, friends standing outside the car though i didn't know how to drive. i finally had to turn the jeep around and go up her driveway in the forward direction. we went out to eat later and when i came back i tried backing up her driveway again and it did the same thing. i took the jeep into the dealer on 6/29/15 with 990 miles on it. the dealer updated the pcm and tcm and retested it but could not get it to fail. it failed again about 3 months later on labor day weekend, 2015. again backing up my daughters driveway. i contacted the jeep service manager and he said they probably can't fix it if it doesn't set a code. (great) the jeep hasn't failed backing up again but it did fail on the highway at 65 miles per hour completely shutting down and not restarting. (see complaint #10819212) like other jeep owners i've noticed the jeep stays in third gear to long at low speed, especially if you have to make a left turn in front of on coming traffic. i've resorted to down shifting the transmission myself so i can have some power to make the turn without getting hit. ( note to chrysler, i'm a first time jeep buyer, keep doing nothing about the engine and transmission problems and you can find your jeep at a ford or chevy dealership.......real soon).
Purchased the jeep in november 2014 brand new. first 6 or 7 months the vehicle performed fine. around june/july 2015 some minor issues with the transmission in shifting and accelerating. as if the car could not find the gear and it was 'lurching' when taking off from a stopped position. also, when the car is in park and turned off, it rolls several inches before stopping. due to having to travel across country in august, took vehicle in for service 9/5/2015 for an oil change and recall work on an unrelated issue. i asked about a recall that i heard about on the news for jeep cherokee transmissions and was advised there was a software update available for my jeep. after the software update, advised to drive my car as normal and give it 100 to 300 miles for the software to 'get used to my driving' and to settle in. since that time, had a marked increase in transmission noise, shifting problems, lurching problems, and the vehicle rolling more when i stop. the jeep seems to shift between first and second gear okay, but it regularly going over 3000 rmpss and higher to shift to all other gears. it is like it cannot find the gears and it getting stuck. there is also a good bit of noise with this that was not there. september 9, 2015, while merging onto 1-40, jeep was having a hard time going from third to forth gear and then it could not hit another gear and the rpms reached 4500 before shifting. almost got hit from behind by a huge moving truck! took back to dealership on 9/9/15. since the transmission started acting up again. jerky, shifting abruptly, not changing gears, gears catching and rpmss going into the 5000 & 6000 before shifting on acceleration. took back in on 10/3/15. since then, same transmission issues. several severe incidents with the transmission not shifting, seizing up and lurching forward and gears not engaging. took back dealership 11/16.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving at 30 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate as the rpms increased. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 12,000.
I have the 9 speed transmission. when the vehicle shifts from 1st to 2nd there is a definite wobble that can be felt in the vehicle. and when the vehicle downshifts from 2nd to 1st during a stop, the vehicle frequently lunges forward when the shift occurs. i have to be sure i am holding the brake very tightly to prevent the lunge. both the wobble and the lunge feeling happen frequently, the lunge in particular is concerning to me, this is a 2015 vehicle! i have discussed this with my dealer and he indicated jeep is aware of the issue, i sure hope they plan to do something about this.
6/19/2015: transmission/electrical issue when attempting to shift the vehicle into reverse it would shift into neutral instead. had to shift to park and then back to reverse before the vehicle went into gear. this was the fourth occurrence of this issue since purchase date. airbag warning message and indicator light turned on when shifting from park to reverse and to drive. electronic stability control indicator came on repeatedly while driving. 6/22/2015: transmission/electrical issue vehicle would not shift from park to reverse. after several minutes was able to put vehicle into park, and eventually powered vehicle off and on and was then able to shift from park to reverse and then drive. airbag warning message and indicator light turned on and electronic stability control indicator came on. 6/23/2015: transmission/electrical failure odometer at 800 miles. while driving, the vehicle suddenly went out of gear. climbing a parking garage ramp the vehicle stalled, the parking brake turned on, the airbag service message and indicator turned on, the service engine light came on, the windshield wipers came on, the media console and bluetooth connection failed. after several minutes of attempting to shift gears (could not get the vehicle into park, drive, or reverse, and parking brake kept engaging), was finally able to power the vehicle off. once the vehicle was powered back on, was able to shift to drive, and drove directly to the dealership. check engine light remained on and electronic stability control indicator came on repeatedly while driving. delivered vehicle to dealership for inspection and repair, and am awaiting resolution as of 7/20/2015.
2015 jeep cherokee sport was purchased in october of 2014. around end may 2015 experienced problems with braking. while coming to a stop sign brake would be pressed down but vehicles rpm's would rev up and vehicle would start accelerating forward. vehicle was brought to shop after finally being able to make an appointment on 06/16/15. mechanic was able to experience the problem and reset module on vehicle. but check engine light came on. dealership gave vehicle back to us and we drove it for two more days and the problem still persisted. on 06/18/2015 a deer had entered highway and while braking vehicle again accelerated and hit the deer causing front end damage. problem could of been 100 times worse because there were also bicyclists on road as well as tractor trailer traveling behind. vehicle was brought to dealership via tow truck. tow truck driver even stated there is something severely wrong with the vehicle. when driver took vehicle off flat bed he put the vehicle in reverse and the vehicle went forward instead of reverse plus the emergency brake came on by itself. chrysler was contacted and they are doing an investigation on vehicle because of the severity. my wife and i just want them to take the vehicle back because we do not feel safe in it one bit.
The 9 speed transmission on this vehicle does not shift properly, especially through the first 3 gears. i have brought my 2015 jeep cherokee in for transmission issues countless times and have been told this is how this transmission is suppose to operate. i am supposed to accept that the shifting from 1st to 2nd can be delayed and then a hard shift that sounds like someone hit my car when it finally decides to shift into third or the same is true from 3rd to second. the dealership finally was able to correct these hard shifts with a software update until i realized what the software actually did. the car will now not shift into 2nd when slowing down, and when it does finally shift down, after slowing down to 3 mph, it shifts to 1st gear completely by passing 2nd gear. this causes the car to accelerate very slowly if you get caught between 1st and 3rd gear and if you press to hard on the accelerator it tends to downshift too hard causing the car to lurch forward and cause a potential accident with any cars in front of you. this had been going on since june 2015 until the software update removed 2nd gear from the downshift. since the car does not down shifts to 2nd my car takes longer to slow down as there is no help from the transmission and this can also cause an accident as your stopping time is increased, as well as additional wear and tear on your breaks.
Vehicle flutters or shimmys briefly upon accelaration from a stop position. unsure if this is engine transmission or wheels.
Took vehicle in for first oil change after purchasing it in jan 2015 and was told i needed to have the transmission replaced. transmission was replaced and since then i have experienced long delays in acceleration and extremely hard shifts. these are intermittent, but happen more often than not. hard shifts are mostly experienced on the lower gears (1-4), and can be violent at lower speeds or when shifting from reverse to drive (or the opposite). the 4wd unavailable light came on shortly after the transmission was replaced, on a couple of occasions (all while driving). have taken the vehicle to the dealership multiple times and have been told they can find nothing wrong and that's normal transmission behavior. i am now dealing with the hard shifts and acceleration lag on a daily basis.
Bought the car new in jan. 2015. noticed first issue in june 2015 when it had no power going up a steep hill. end of june check engine light came on and start/stop unavailable. took it back to the dealer and was told it needed a new transmission. it had 9,000 miles at this point. got car back and immediately noticed problems with acceleration. car will not accelerate properly from a stop. i have almost been t-boned numerous times d/t pulling out into traffic for a turn and having no power. also will accelerate when trying to brake. car returned to dealer, told they could not duplicate. car continued to have same issues as well as loss of power when going up inclines. took back into dealer. they put a recording device on the car to monitor what it was doing when i was having the issues. car also started going forward when i would put it into reverse. just heard back from the dealership about the car. it needs another new transmission. i am done with this car. pretty sure it qualifies as a lemon under ohio law. they will be buying this car back from me. obviously the defect cannot be corrected. it is a huge safety issue.
This vehicle shifts extremely roughly into first gear, both from a standstill and when shifting into first from reverse. it has been to the dealership on 5 different occasions and in spite of software updates, the problem persists. since some vehicles with this same transmission have been reported to suddenly shift into neutral while driving down the freeway, i am very concerned. jeep is aware of the problems with this 9 speed transmission yet seems incapable of coming up with a solution to fix it.
While driving 55mph check engine lite along with stop/start lite came on and vehicle rapidly decelerated from 55mph to 30mph causing transmission to over heat which ultimately lead to transmission replacement on a new 2015 jeep,
Error light comes on took to dealership at 6000 miles, replaced transmission, have had multiple shifting issues and chrysler refuses to fix the problem. really discouraged and frustrated with chryslers lack of response.
Car would not want to shift, all lights came on to check engine, transmission, and service park brake. i was on a rural logging road at time, so took multiple tries to get it into gear. after finally getting into gear couldn't go faster than 40. made it to next town and called tow truck. they installed new transmission and it didn't even work coming out of shop. they installed another transmission and it is also not working right, and starting to shift hard. this is one day after getting car back...
Problem started while moving. now it's as soon as it startsmy problem started june 2015, whole dash lights up tire pressure, service air bag,4wd unavailable, brake failure, and when comes to stop disengages transmission.same thing started again august 3rd 2015 same list again. received back again sept 2nd 2015 drove for 2 days. back to dealer again. still there currently have not received back cannot figure problem out chrysler is involved but they are rediculas case number available if needed
After the last software update the tranny will not longer down shift unless at a complete stop. going 5 mph it starts out in 3rd gear this is unsafe when pulling out into traffic the jeep has very little power. then if little more gas is applied the car down shift tire squeal and the motor will almost go to red line.
When downshifting from 3rd to 2nd to 1st at an intersection, the transmission skips 2nd gear and finally drops into 1st at about 1-2 mph. if i accelerate prior to coming to a full stop, the transmission is in 3rd gear and has insufficient power to avoid a collision. the transmission also causes a dangerous problem when shifting from reverse into forward. numerous times there is a sharp jerk which causes me to concentrate on retaining control of the car and losing awareness of my surroundings. this car is also well know for having an extreme wobble when pulled behind an rv - which is what i purchased it for. i haven't experienced the wobble yet as i haven't hooked up my cherokee waiting for chrysler to resolve the very dangerous wobble problem. all of the problems listed above occur while the vehicle is in motion - sometimes at highway speed and sometimes while driving in town.
Purchased car 5/13/15. on 5/30 noticed shimmy/vibration as i accelerated from a stopped position into a sharp right turn. appt made for service 6/8. at check-in, customer servc knew exactly what i was talking about; confirmed in test drive. reported star case #s1421000022, half-shafts (left & right axles) defective, need replacing. told car was completely safe to drive in this condition. verbal & written confirm that parts were being manufactured and were scheduled for release 9-2015. told by service mgr, chrysler issued an internal tsb 2-2015. parts warping when heated and fluid loss occurs. entire assembly needs to be replaced but parts haven't been manufactured, contracted with company that manufactures the trailhawk model (no problems reported on those parts). assured car was safe to drive but chrysler rep agreed to pay for rental car for long trip i had planned prior to purchase. researched -- i have found this issue dates back to the 2014 models. bottom line, they knew this part was defective prior to selling me the car in may. i agreed to be patient but it is now sept and have not had my "status update" inquiry phone call returned. vibration issue grew worse quickly, turned into a wobble. i can't drive it for extended periods on highways. as the car/parts heat up, the wobble in the front end is a constant, not just on turns. i feel as if the axles will break apart while driving. i do not have another car that i can use. there is no excuse for selling cars with a known defect and forcing a buyer to place their life in jeopardy. other issues have cropped up. engine races & doesn't always shift when it should; cruise control not consistent - loses speed. when returned to service, told they couldn't find a problem w/ cruise control, told transmission functioning correctly, computer is "learning" how i drive. brakes squeak after rain, told normal by svc mgr.
Car transmission failed, causing us to get hit numerous times. can not accelerate when necessary, sometimes it will go fine and other times gas pedal floored and go no where.
Transmission disengaged intermittently as vehicle coasted along freeway. pulled over and turned off/restarted vehicle. transmission then engaged. took in for software upgrade. no more high speed issues but now vehicle will rev from stop condition before transmission engages. this is a 9-speed transmission in the new 2015 jeep cherokee trailhawk.
After driving the car for almost a year kept noticing transmission would not shift smoothly. it would jerk and lurch making me think i was not applying the accelerator correctly. after several (3) complaints and taking it to the dealer to have it looked at i decided to look for another vehicle. it was then i found out from a honda dealer employee that there is a class action law suit against jeep. the jeep in question was released without all the problems with the nine speed transmission worked out. it is very frustrating to be driving a new vehicle that doesn't run like one. *tr
2015 jeep cherokee v6 exhibits a vibration or "shimmy" during acceleration. vibration occurs at between 13-17 mph just prior to shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear (in "auto" transmission mode). vibration always occurs, but is more pronounced as the drive train heats up. the dealer acknowledged that this has been a common problem, but that chrysler has yet to identify a definitive fix for the defect.
Purchased a new 2015 jeep cherokee latitude 4/9/15. in may (approx 700 miles) i stated to notice a wobble when accelerating & the vehicle lunged when stopping & starting. the lunge was so powerful that i thought i was going to hit the car in front of me. took in for service 5/29. they reprogrammed the tcm module. wobble came back & by june 8th it was wobbling & hesitating (once it happened in an intersection). i called service dept on june 9th. took it in on jun 10th to have one of their guys take it for a spin. while waiting, they told me jeeps do "certain things other cars don't". i told them i searched the internet & apparently there is a know problem & brought a printout of some of the other customer complaints. they said "can't go by that"... i rode with their tech & he said he never felt anything like that. he got his service manager so they go take it for a ride together. they replaced the axles (6/12) but said the wobble is still there. they'd contacted chrysler via email & was told not to dump anymore parts in the vehicle. they know what the issue is (but they wouldn't tell the dealer) & a tcb was coming out in aug. there was nothing that could be done until then. they said (in their email) the car was safe to drive. really? took car back on 7/3. work was done the same day, they reprogrammed the tcm again. on the way home i stopped to get gas & when leaving the gas station the car lunged me into the road! by 7/7 the wobble was more intense. by 7/8 car was slow to accelerate from a stop, could barely keep up with traffic. called case manager on 7/9 said whatever they did made it worse. his solution was to take back in for service because i can't drive a car like that! he called to make appointment and the earliest they had was 7/20 (11 days later). these cars are unsafe & someone is going to get hurt! please do something!
Thank you!! the first incident occurred at 304 miles. check engine light came on and the car started shaking and could not accelerate. check engine light started flashing and called the dealership immediately. had the truck towed in and they advised at first that the upper head of the engine blew, after speaking with my customer resolution rep (case number: [xxx]) the dealership called me again and advised it was just a bad spark plug and they fixed it. the second incident occurred about a week after this service i took a 200 mile trip to pa to visit family and on the way back from this trip the check engine light came on again. i checked the oil levels and there was nothing on the measuring stick. had to car towed again and this time bayside chrysler advised the o-ring went on the car and that it was replaced/fixed. after the o-ring service the car is still loosing oil but i can't smell is burning and there is nothing under the car after leaving a parking spot. however, when the car first starts blue smoke comes out of the exhaust and the engine knocks/tics a bit upon starting but that stops after the oil hits the engine i guess. on 8/5/2015 i started the car after work and the check engine light came on and flashing again and the car began shaking. it was towed to the dealership again this morning for service. the above covers the engine issues. two weeks ago at a stop sign i stepped on the gas but the engine just revved for a few seconds followed by the transmission engaging. since then the transmission has not been shifting normally. the transmission has not failed yet but it appears it's on its way. currently the car has 2,400 miles on it. any help would be greatly appreciated. i've been in contact with many other on forums and these people have family's/small children as do i. something needs to be done about these cars. their not safe. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Car updated on 5/20/15 with latest tsb 21-21-15a for transmission control module. car now skips 2nd gear when downshifting (coasting). on rolling stops the car is stuck on 3rd gear causing lack of acceleration while traffic behind expects car to get moving (highway entry ramp). if gas is floored car finally reacts and skips to 1st causing wheelspin. car has slid during wet conditions. with snow this can be lethal. car did not skip 2nd gear before tsb. dealer advised this behavior is the new standard.

The transmission suffers from hard shifts and delayed shifting. this occurs when shifting from reverse to drive, park to drive, accelerating from a stop and accelerating to pass another vehicle. the delayed shifting or hesitation is dangerous to drivers of this vehicle and others as it causes the driver of the jeep cherokee to unintentionally lurch into traffic. this is especially dangerous when making a left turn across oncoming traffic. in these situations when the gas pedal is depressed the engine revs and becomes loud but the vehicle does not move- very similar to if one pressed the gas while in neutral. this hesitation lasts a few to several seconds during which time oncoming traffic that was a safe distance away when the turn was initiated has become dangerously close. the transmission suddenly engages and propels the vehicle into the path of oncoming traffic. this problem is intermittent but frequent. it occurs every time i drive but not every time i shift from park to reverse, shift from park to drive, make a left hand turn, accelerate to pass, or accelerate from a stopped position. i believe this makes this issue especially dangerous because the driver never knows when or if this may occur. the vehicle has been serviced 3 times within 10 months of ownership for the above issues. it has had all available transmission module updates without improvement and is currently awaiting transmission replacement. per the dealership the transmission replacement is unlikely to correct the issues as it is being replaced with the same faulty transmission. my vehicle has been in for service for more than 50 days cumulatively. the earliest anticipated arrival date of the new transmission is over 2 weeks away meaning that my vehicle will have been undrivable for more than 2 months before the earliest anticipated date of repair. first date of service 5-18-15
The transmission spun into neutral and finally gave out at mile 2300. it had been acting erratically ever since mile 500, it would surge forward as my foot was off the gas around 30 mph. up until that time the transmission would act erratic, the cruise control light would come on and off, 2 driving cycles the radio/ climate control screen did not turn on which indicated to me that it was a computer malfunction of some sort. before it gave out i noticed that the rpm meter was at 5000 at 55 mph then it slipped . i then coasted into the center lane in traffic to turn it off hoping to reset it, it allowed me to take it home before it gave out again. it is currently at the dealer for repair. i was pained to hear of very similar stories from other brand new jeep owners as this seems to be a known problem.
At times, the transmission would shift so hard that it felt like i had been hit from the rear. they had an alert about a computer problem. as i drove home, it did it again. i took it to a different dealer to see if they would have any luck. it seemed to fix the problem for a while. the hard shifting incidents were greatly reduced. then while driving home from highland, i noticed some hesitation in the shifting. a few blocks from my house, the engine light turned on and an alert to service the transmission came on. just before i pulled on to my street i felt and heard three loud bangs that again made the car jerk like it had been hit from the rear. as i took off from a stop, it felt like the transmission was slipping. it just wouldn't go. i pulled into the driveway and when i got out of the car, i noticed an odor like burnt oil. i called royal gate and was told to bring it in. trip number 4 for the transmission. no problems on the way there. a week later, i got my car back. again, i was told that it was a computer problem. i got home and when i was backing into the driveway, i heard and felt another bang. i called royal gate again. i was told that they are having problems with the nine speed transmission. then while on my way back from an appointment, there was more slipping. on 10-01-16, i picked up my car for the sixth time. they couldn't find anything wrong with it. i asked to speak with the store manager. while waiting, one of the sales people asked me what i needed. i told him that i was picking up my jeep cherokee for the sixth time. he laughed and said, 'transmission?' the manager was too busy to talk to me. he was in the middle of a deal. the last time that i brought the car in, two of the service people witnessed all of the problems that i brought it in for. now all of a sudden, no one can find the problem.
The jeep has a wobble or shimmy between 11 and 17 mph that is very significant. seems to happen after the jeep has been driven and is warmed up. i have 3200 miles on this vehicle and this problem was noticed when the jeep had about 500 miles on it. i am being told its the front axle shafts that are supposedly on order. however, i am also being told it could weeks to months to get the parts in.
Vehicle began shifting hard, and accelerating when brakes applied. lunges forward gaining speed while brakes engaged. no services engine lights at that times. taken to dealer for service. told by service man that it had 2 recalls for updates to transmission computer. never notified about recalls or can't find recalls regarding transmission on their website. updates applied today and was picked up. drove approximately 10 miles toward home when it lunged hard, alarms sounded and service lights turned on. taken directly back to dealer and awaiting their response. other non safety related issues include driver side running light malfunction, smart screen audio/climate control malfunctions.
Trans wants to make the cars speed up when trying to slow down. also when stepping on gas pedal the jeep has a lifting feeling like the engine mounts are broken. something not right with engine and or trans. the dealer told no problems found. but i now see some people are coming forward talk about same issue i am having?
After purchase of our new car 15 cherokee trailhawk v6, we noticed abnormal transmission shifts. we contacted our dealer and was told the vehicle needs to learn your driving style. the jeep would not downshift into 2nd gear and would rev and then engage the driveline resulting in neutral drop like take offs. 2nd appointment in july we were told there was a new program for the trans. some improvement, got 2nd gear back. but the hesitation and slam into gear thing was still there. 3rd time in aug. oil change and recall for the tailgate and radio. they again told us there is nothing they can do about the way it drives. no new programs out. sept. the car almost killed us, while pulling out after a turn on red corner, the car took a few seconds to move after committing to the turn. same neutral drop type engagement. no check engine lights. read online forums this is a common symptom for these zf transmissions.
Purchased a 2015 jeep cherokee latitude 4x4 on 2/28/2015. started having issues with the transmission hesitating and jerking into gear. took it to the dealership on 5/1/2015 and was informed that there is a computer glitch that the manufacturer is aware of, but there is no fix for it. they say its safe to drive. on 5/7/2015 i almost got t-boned because the transmission wouldn't shift pulling out of a parking lot into traffic. it finally jerked into gear but continued to jerk and would not go over 25mph and my check engine light and errors came on about the start/stop function. the dealership towed my car and i am using a loaner. they have no idea how to fix it. the 2015 jeep cherokee's are completely unsafe to drive! spent over $30,000 on a vehicle that i can't safely drive.
I was driving to work and car started to die. i was driving around 30 mph and car started to slow down. i came to the point where i was was ready to take a left turn so started to turn but the car died and an oncoming car almost hit me.
