Autonatic transmission
I just bought my honda accord 2003 from a used car dealer and it had 120xxx miles literally drove it two months and it broke down mechanic said it was the teansmission so i did some research online and i seen that these accords have bad transmissions everywhere i seen someone had a problem with trans i checked if there was a recall but they said there wasn't this is really disappointed knowing i i lynch had it two months and having the same issue other people are having
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while the vehicle was in second and third gear, the transmission would malfunction and the vehicle would not accelerate properly. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired in december of 2014 per nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train), but the failure recurred. the local dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was 207,000.
While driving on the highway at around 65 mph, all of a sudden the car seemed like it was braking by itself without me pressing the brakes. i took it to the shop and after spending hundreds of dollars, found out that the transmission is damaged and beyond the second gear, it is slipping. this is what caused that dangerous behavior on the highway. this could have easily led to an accident by being rear ended or worse. honda should replace the transmission.
Entered highway at 50 55 when rpms went up and lost acceleration quickly about got rear ended and once i got to the shoulder i turned off car and started it back up and only thing i couldn't engage in car ..park worked but the rest was in neatral lucky noone was hurt..transmission failed without warning i find this a major issue since so many other 03 accords have had the same problem and i'm asking for honda to replace my trandmission..number of miles 138,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and had it towed to her residence. a local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 184,449.
Torque converter stuck off, p0741, code given. transmission rebuild/ replacement required for continued use of vehicle. service records show 2nd gear oil jet addition at 25,500 miles, and all subsequent servicing done at manufacturer suggested intervals, as indicated by printed shop receipts from honda dealership. after drain and fill done after first code thrown at 106,000 miles, 50 miles later the same p0741 code thrown. local transmission shop did teardown and said that torque converter shows signs of overheating, metal shavings in fluid, and severely worn and broken clutch materials ( i have pictures of said damage).
Transmission was bad and had to be replaced. new transmission was bad also. wasted money for the same thing multiple times and honda will not help. this year make and model is only compatible with the same exact make model and year. it is hard to find a transmission, and after seeing the recall and it matching both transmissions i don't see why we should have to keep spending money on faulty parts. all the transmissions for this vehicle had recalls and were faulty. we want honda's help to fix it for good since no other mechanic can figure it out and we have spent money back to back on the same thing. this year make and model was terrible for transmission failures. i feel it is wrong to have your customers buy transmissions that have to be the same that came out of the vehicle, and we are wasting all of our time and money to do so, because any transmission we buy is already messed up.
Hello i need to submit a near collision incident caused by a transmission lockup on the highway at 65 mph. i don't know your vin tracking methods, but you have not accounted for all of them, particularly mine. refer to: nhtsa recall number: 04v-176 mfr campaign id: p38 campaign dscription: 03-04 accord auto trans recall recall date: 04/13/2014 i've just had this happen to me in my 2003 accord and can provide proof by submitting my transmission replacement records from the local honda dealer service shop. i was lucky the vehicles behind me were able to avoid rear ending me.
Transmission was recalled (nhtsa reference #04v176000) in 2004 for over heating problem. there was no follow up to see if repairs specified in the recall were effective over the expected life of the transmission. symptoms started about two weeks ago. transmission pauses before going into gear. then transmission slips and engine revs. after one week, transmission quit pulling as i was attempting to enter the interstate. car would not get up to speed and transmission quit pulling entirely, leaving me stranded on side of interstate. transmission fluid black and burnt. sounds like gear jumping teeth.
Upon slowing, transmission shifts violently from 3 to 2 and 2 to 1. also, under light or steady throttle, will switch back and forth from 1 to 2, again violently (violently defined as like dumping the clutch in a manual transmission). this happens after it warms up. the car has 98.8k miles on it, maintained at honda the entire life of the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving 55 mph, the transmission failed to shift gears without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 41,000.
Transmission recall- second owner of 2003 honda accord. bought it at 76,000 miles, now at 95,000 miles. i'm night driving at 75mph in the fast lane with a constant flow of traffic including big rigs. near the end of a construction median which was placed precisely on the left line of the lane, my car jolts backwards as if i slammed on the brakes. freaked out, i thought maybe i ran something over. then 2 minutes later my car jolts backwards again like a fast emergency brake. i could feel my body lock against my seatbelt. i safely get to the shoulder and panic as i am an hour from home and i'm in the ghetto. as i pull back on to get off the highway my car is at a constant rev of 5 and making a loud awful machine noise. i try to put it in reverse and it doesn't reverse. i turn it off then try again, it works once then doesn't do anything. i get towed to honda, i saw how the previous owner had a jet kit installed because of a 2004 recall which states if under 15,000mi install a jet kit, if over, examine the gears and or replace transmission. replace. because of this recall which was more so a bandaid of the problem, my mint condition car is all money bags. i do not think honda will do another recall or pay partially for the repair. 95,000 miles! i read on car complaints how many people had these same issues with honda america and honda dealerships. this is not right! if you create and sell a dangerously faulty product, fix and replace them! nhtsa recall #: 04v176000 honda recall #: p38
I'm the third owner of a 2003 honda accord v6 ex coupe. at 151000 miles my transmission began to fail. it would slam it's way from 5th gear to 1st. luckily nobody was behind me. i was going 60 mph from the shell station .5 miles from my house, and slowed to 30 by the time my car was in 1st in a curve. i almost lost control of the vehicle. come web to find out this is a wide spread unresolved problem that is endangering everyone in and around these vehicles. i called honda and they said in 2004 the vehicle already had the recall performed, but much like the thousands of other people who ended up with this cat it did not fix the faulty transmission and honda knows that the issue still exists and wants people to continue paying to get the same problematic rebuilt transmission. i can not believe every one of these transmissions haven't been recalled, and if needed i will pursue legal action against honda especially having a 1 year old daughter in a known rolling death trap. once it gets to first it flashes d on the dash and the check engine comes on. my tcs and abs is also tripped by this issue causing further risk of endangering other drivers and myself. every search i have made on this vehicle days the same as i'm saying now, but at varying stages. please help get this issue resolved not just for myself but for everyone who owns this particular honda. to make matters worse this is the first year model of the honda accord v6 ex coupe. the car is currently parked and won't be moved until a recall or i swap the entire transmission out for a manual transmission that i can't afford, but i definitely can't afford to replace my car or continue to pay to replace the same faulty transmission. this is an outrage. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving the vehicle at 70 mph and when attempting to pass another vehicle, the transmission seemed to lock, causing the vehicle to stop on the freeway. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic were it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 133,000.
My 2003 honda accord lx crashed on 10/01/2016 about 18 months after i had my airbag serviced at a local honda dealer 4/7/2015. when i got my car back from the dealer, the driver door had no power and could not be opened remotely or with the power lock control on the driver door. more importantly, no safety signals came on when the car started. i called the dealer and they told me i had to pay $80 to have it checked; i then called american honda customer service, who only documented the complaint and took no action to remedy mechanical mistake by honda dealer. i was driving on a downhill curve on a wet road after a rain. when i saw a slower car ahead of me, i gently applied the brake to maintain a constant following distance. the car drifted to the left toward oncoming traffic. but when i tried steer to get back to the right lane and tried to press on the brake, it locked up, then the car went into neutral and i had no brake and steering resistance was completely lax. my car went off road and crashed into the woods. the airbag did not deploy. i was confined in bed with pain one whole day. my transmission had locked up, then went into neutral, twice before on 1/14/2015 in the middle of traffic, and on 9/15/2016 in my driveway. we never received a letter from honda for the transmission recall; however, we did receive letters regarding the airbag recall, the ignition switch recall, and the wiper motor recall. a year ago, the recalls came up using my vin#. the database now shows no recall for my vehicle at all. after my car crash, i had it towed to honda dealership on 10/4/2016 for repair estimate. i left my car and title with dealership; less than 48 hours later i called to get car back for crash investigation and lawsuit, the car had been destroyed by honda dealer closing all further inquiries. american honda took no responsibility when i contacted them. *tr
Transmission - while driving i'd pulled over and the car slow to a stop while the transmission was in gear,i place the grea lever in park then back into drive and all that happen was a wineing sound from the transmission i turn off the engine and sat there for a while, started the engine was able to go some distance more and the car started to wine again made it home after three stop let the car rest and then go again.had the transmission rebuild ,years later tranmission went out again had to replace transmission again.this all happen on city street last repair was 09/23/2016 by brake stop auto repair
The torque converter isnt locking up anymore...the car can stop any time by itself. check engine light code p0741
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving 62 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle lost power and the rpms increased. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was previously repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). the failure mileage was 142,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that the transmission failed to shift gears properly and the vehicle was unable to be driven over 20 mph each time the failure happened. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who inspected and diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
Was driving on the highway at 70 miles an hour and the transmission violently stopped. i almost got in a car accident. these transmission are an issue and honda refues to recall the cars. someone is going to get killed.
Transmission recall automatic transmission slips/and jerks through gears
Automatic transmission fails going from 1st to 2nd gear.
Transmission failed on my 2003 3.0 automatic honda accord.
Complete transmission failure requiring replacement or rebuilding of the automatic transmission. note, this is a 2003 honda accord v6 automatic transmission. the failure occurred while driving on the highway under normal conditions.
The 3rd gear in my automatic transmission had almost completely given out. the first incident of failure was when accelerating from a stop. when my vehicle tried to shift to 3rd gear the gear wouldn't catch and the engine revved freely without increasing the speed of the vehicle. i did research on this problem specifically associated with this make, model, and year and discovered the issue to be consistent with other reports.
Randomly car will down shift and up shift. sometime yes when i left off gas. sometimes when it hits a certain rpm. the rpm will shoot really high and go back to normal. only occurs while warm.
After being service at the dealership for replacement of timing belt and drive belt, the car would not move into drive or reverse. when i press on gas pedal the car would not move into gear when driving at city speed or highway merging. the mechanic said the transimission is bad. the car has only 63k miles. after research on internet, i found that the 2003 honda accord v6 has this problem but has not recall since it is not a safety issues. well, driving at 70 and merging into traffic and the car would go can cause an accident. *js
Verbatim the same transmission problems as everyone else. honda was unwilling to compromise on this faulty part that's well documented, hence the involuntary recall by the nhtsa. we offered to work with them by trading this model in for a newer one, talk about us willing to forget and forgive for brand loyalty. apparently honda doesn't care not willing to do even this. this is my fourth honda and will be my last. average cost of ownership has been 1000/month, at this point i could have gotten the tesla i really wanted.
Driving on highway. sudden deceleration caused by transmission. very lucky not to be rear ended. *js
November 30, 2016 the transmission started jerking and slipping. on december 1, i had the car towed to a repair facility and a repair was done. the next day. december 2 the problem recurred and the diagnosis was the transmission failed. the failure of this class of transmissions is documented through recalls. my transmission at the time of recall had new cooling lines and kits installed. no inspection was done by camera.
While driving on the 210 freeway transmission downshifted suddenly without a warning and rpm shot up to 6,000 revs bringing the car to almost a standstill with cars behind me going at 70 mph almost rearending my car.
June 2015: torque converter: car when accelerating slammed out of gear and felt like we had been rear-ended. car wouldn't shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. radio: radio system back light broke at 60,000 miles current issue: gear shift knob fell off while driving. daughter was driving car and bumped gear shift and was able to shifted from drive to neutral while the car was moving. called honda complaint line to complain and there was no action or concern regarding the current issue of the gear shift knob.
Driver's side axle shaft assembly snapped. there was no accident. this occurred when i was taking a slow left turn.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving at approximately 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 79,000.
The car is shifting while in motion. transmission jumps when shifting into gear. car is dangerous to drive. certified techician advised us not to drive the car.
I was driving on the main road and i heard a noise, my vehicle suddenly stopped, i tried to apply brakes, but the brakes did not work, the hand brakes did not work either, was very scary. the vehicle was in motion when it suddenly stopped on me. this vehicle has always been serviced at honda dealership and i have taken very good care of this vehicle. i am scared for my safety driving this vehicle because i could have ended up in a big accident like the one that recently happened in seattle to the "duck tourist bus" because of a broken axle. i contacted honda about this issue, mentioned about my concerns regarding the safety of this vehicle, but they did not care.
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle jerked and hesitated before moving forward. the tsc warning light illuminated. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 103,000.
Hi! as you can see, i am an owner of a honda accord 2003. i have recently taken it for a replacement of the passenger airbag. while i was doing some research, i found that this specific year and model, had some other issues or recalls too. for example, the transmission system. his caught my attention since i think i do have a problem probably related to it. i bought this car in may last year, from an acquaintance, and soon after, i noticed a shaking in the gas pedal, every time i was accelerating between 25 to 35 mph (city and highway). the shaking always go away when i stop speeding it for a second, and then continue to accelerate. it happens again and again. it first, and because the check engine turn on, i took it to the mechanic, and i was told that i needed to replace the catalytic. well, i did it and...the problem persisted. am i in danger here?. ok, i will wait for your response. in the meantime, as might understand, i will document this request, just in case something happens. thank you for your time and attention!!! *tr
I was driving on the highway at 60 mph, all the sudden, it violently down shifted, felt like i was rear ended. as i let up the gas, the engine would rev but not engage the transmission. luckily no other cars were behind me at the time. when i got to the office, the car would not go into reverse. *tr

I was driving southbound in peabody, massachusetts on 128 almost on to 95 when at centennial drive exit when my vehicle, without warning, slowed from 60 mph to 30 mph , i put on hazards as car went from 30 mph to 10 mph to dead all in a matter of 45 seconds tops. it was around 12pm and traffic was moderate to heavy. cars behind me were forced to slow at a significant rate, luckily a pile up did not occur as the likelihood of such a accident was extremely possible with one driver not fully present i don't want to imagine the possibilities. i was able to semi slide car into breakdown lane safely enough and aaa came 1 hour latter as they listed my call a priority call.. i had car towed to home town and mechanic went through car in its entirety to discover that transmission needed to be replaced. honda is well aware of this issue as there are thousands of testimonies from honda owners regarding their transmission problems occurring around 126,213 miles. the models with faulty transmissions are 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009 . *tr
I came to a stop at a busy intersection. when the light turned green, i started up, taking a right turn, and the engine went into high rpms and loud clinking noises started. i stopped immediately and was almost rear-ended in the intersection. put the car in park, but new noises started, tried l1, same thing. had to turn the car off and leave it at the intersection with hazard lights on, but cars still were almost rear-ending me. tow truck came 1.25 hours later. harrowing experience being stuck out there in that intersection! auto repair shop called and said the entire transmission has failed and i need a new one. now i can't get to/from school! i've read the 2003 accord has a huge problem with transmissions, so i guess i'm unfortunately in that group as well. another dead honda. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the vehicle started shaking and jerking before moving forward and the tsc warning light illuminated. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 180,967.
2003 honda accord. consumer writes in regards to transmission issues. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle would not go in reverse and the rpm would only run at 3,000. *jb
The first incident happened when i was slowing down for a stop sign. at about 45 mph the car suddenly downshifted. the rpms registered approx. 5000 then returned to around 2000. i turned and while accelerating to highway speed, the car downshifted then corrected 3 times. i parked on the shoulder, shut the car off, then on again. i proceeded with no further issues. the next day, feb 26, 2015, the car downshifted at approx. 45 mph then corrected. each time the rpms jumped to approx. 5000 before settling back to approx. 2000. this happened a couple more times. later the same day, i was on the freeway driving on cruise control at approx. 65 mph when the car downshifted then corrected. this happened again a couple minutes later. i parked on the shoulder, shut the car off, then turned it back on. i did not have another incident driving to my destination. feb 27th, i headed to my final destination. about 150 miles into my trip, i was slowing down on the freeway for a slower car in front, when my car downshifted then corrected. this same situation happened three more times before getting to my home. at no time did any diagnostic lights illuminate. i have not contacted the dealer yet, as they are closed today. after reading multiple reports about this incident i do not have confidence that honda will work to resolve this potentially dangerous issue. *tr
I was getting off the off ramp at about 35mph taking a right turn when the transmission made a jerking motion and slipped. i let off the accel and applied the accel a couple times before it engaged again got to my destination went shopping. went to leave and i had no reverse. shifted threw the gears nothing. i turned the car off and on to find the i could now back up. i put the car into drive to find out the car would only drive in first gear on drive. it would not shift gears. i have my car parked till i figure out what to do and how this issue can be resolved. i called honda but they where no help and want me to spend money that i don't have to figure it out and fix the issue. *tr
I'm the original owner of the vehicle, and have always used honda for service and maintenance of my vehicle. the transmission failed without warning. thankfully, i wasn't driving in the highway because this could have caused a major accident. my car basically came to a stop when the transmission failed. *tr
