We have classified the 327 complaints from 2003 Honda Accord about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
With approx 122,000 miles my 2003 honda accord ex v6 is at the local pasadena honda dealer who working with honda motors states that the transmission needs to be replaced, due to transmission failure, at a cost of over $4000. there is now a backlog for at least a month on the part. for many years actually within the first year of purchase the transmission has hesitated and not shifted properly i took the car to the dealer for the 2004 recall which made little to no difference in the hesitation/shifting problem. recently after taking the car in to the dealer for the ignition interlock recall, the car began to show very noticeable signs of some sort of major problem while accelerating the car would not accelerate and i would hear a spinning. while driving on the highway the car would have difficulty sifting from 1-3 gear and would not accelerate, this is a critical speed that the car must perform at otherwise it is not fit to be driven anywhere. this car is dangerous to drive in this condition. there are hundreds if not thousands of complaints on this model car, i formally request the nhtsa to asses this situation before there are further injuries or deaths as a result. honda is clearly aware of this problem. to be clear this problem is with the transmission and related components, i.e. some reports are that it is the torque converted. my dealer states that it is one of the bearings. regardless the dealer service dept states that the transmission has to be replaced.
Since purchase of the car, when i put the car into drvie or reverse, it takes off by itself, without my foot on the gas pedal at 15-20mph. the problem is worse in reverse. i have hit a rock wall, and this week, when i put the car in reverse from an angle parking slot and took my foot off the break , the car shot backwards and nearly hit a pedestrian. again i did not have my foot on the gas. i have taken it it several times, with no success. most recently was told it was a stuck throttle body, and that it was unsafe to drive. on replacing the throttle body, it is better in drive, but still bad in reverse. it is under warranty with 18,000 miles, and i am afraid to drive it, for safety reasons.
1 parked car in garage took out key, almost in house when car rolled out of garage down driveway tried to stop car all most ran me over. car crashed into cable box at end of driveway. car still in gear. took to dealer who fixed it. 2. car surges when entering and leaving garage car takes off have to ride brake to keep car from completely taking off, without ever touching gas pedal. took to dealer. was told all cars do this and nothing was wrong the car. *jb
Transmission failure creates safety hazard. transmission shifts irregularly causing car to jerk violently and then drive to wheels fails leaving car stranded on busy motor way. *tr
The consumer was able to remove the keys from the ignition while the gear was in drive. this caused the vehicle to roll away. *jb . *scc *nlm
When shifting the car into d after being off for a while it makes a grinding/scratchy sound. only happens when going into d from any other gear.*ak
I own a 2003 honda accord lx v6 coupe, with 35,000 miles and current iaw owners manual preventive maintenance schedule, my transmission with out! i took my vehicle to ourisman honda located in laurel where the service department 'flushed the transmission twice', returning it to me stating 'the problem was targeted and corrected'. the very next day, taking a trip to philadelphia with my girlfriend, we noticed the transmisson slipping as we were leaving the toll booth, 15-20 miles down the road the transmisson was so severe it wouldn't accelerate past 3rd gear (5 speed automatic). the vehicle was turned in under the reccomendation of princeton honda, where the transmisson was replaced. however, the replacement transmisson, per ourisman honda of laurel, will not be covered past the factory 36,000 mile warranty.*ak
I have a '03 accord. at 776 mi noticed car pulling to the left. penske honda in ontario, ca said it the front tire is bad. had the tire replaced by a tire dealer. came back at 2251 mi to report car pulling to the right. penske honda just adjusted all tire pressures. went back at 2693 mi to complain rear wheels visibly misaligned and also vibration at the steering wheel when idling. penske honda performed 4 wheel alignment. idle found normal. came back at 3036 mi. reporting difficulty keeping the car straight, either pulling left or right. reported again vibration on the steering wheel when idling. technician advised the car drove straight while idling adjusted to base idle. dealership had the car all day and noticed that the car wasn't driven far enough as shown by the mileage out at 3038 mi. had to request technician, ron campbell to ride with me to show the pulling on either side. seen it, felt it but thinks its normal blaming it on the road although he took me to a good stretch of flat road. nevertheless, he asked to leave the car for further test on monday being late saturday, mileage in at 3042. had the car all day monday, was advised late afternoon that they did the alignment check, drove the car some more, checked the ride height and everything is to spec. the only problem is, the alignment print-out was made @ 4:04 pm and was called by the service advisor at 5:40 pm. which makes it apparent that they spent little time to test drive and look for the problem. next visit is to take the service manager for a ride to experience the problem. mileage out at 3047 mi and drove it home but the problem is still there. there are similar complaints reported by other consumer on this website about the steering problem, vibration at steering wheel when idling and the car pulling forward or reversing fast on its own with less or no pressure at the gas (ref 10039029). are these things normal or design flaws waiting for accidents to happen? and we haven't heard from nhsta.*ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving 45 mph the transmission stopped working which caused the vehicle to stall in traffic. the contact was able to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road. the contact drove the vehicle to the dealer to have the transmission repaired and the manufacturer offered to pay for half of the repair cost. the contact has requested the manufacturer cover the cost the entire repair cost due to the numerous complaints regarding honda's transmission. the contact is concerned that the failure could cause a crash to occur. the failure mileage was 40,000.
