We have classified the 327 complaints from 2003 Honda Accord about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Transmission had problems downshifting and car was losing power. on the highway the car bucked violently and i had to pull off on the shoulder. i was able to continue for a short while before it happened again and had to pull off again. car continued to be losing power and would not downshift. was able to make it home, barely, and transmission would not engage in reverse. had vehicle towed to dealership and contacted honda usa. dealership said that entire transmission & torque converter needs to be replaced. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle lunged back and forth in a sudden stop and go motion. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the failure. the dealer advised her that the transmission would need to be replaced. the vehicle was left in the dealers possession and the manufacturer was contacted in regards to the failure. the manufacturer advised that they would assist with fifty percent of the repair costs. the failure mileage was 84,450 and the current mileage was 84,490.
The transmission on our 2003 honda accord with only 72,203 miles has gone bad and needs to be replaced. we serviced our vehicle regularly and this should never have happened with such low mileage. honda wants to charge us over $4000 for a new transmission. we understand there are many complaints on this. we had several recalls on this vehicle, including a service to the transmission shortly after we purchased the vehicle. please look into this because there is something honda is hiding. *tr
2003 honda accord v6 transmission went out of the blue with 104,560 miles on it. i keep my cars mint and change fluids as recommended by the manufacturer. honda america said due to that it's past its warranty, age and mileage they are unwilling to due anything. i've read on the nhtsa's webpage about the transmissions failing all in the same way, even my car. obviously there's a problem that honda is unwilling at this time to address. my dealer was the only one that cared about retaining my business by taking $250.00 off the $2600.00 transmission and eating hours of labor because it took longer than the honda repair manual said. when my transmission went my engine light came on maybe 50 miles before, i thought it was my gas cap being loose, wrong! right out of no where the engine tacked to 7,000, i slowed down and pulled to the shoulder. i couldn't move forward or backwords,. thank god the engine still ran to keep the car warm. my friend was in the car with me with his two year old, thankfully the transmission didn't kick back in and we slammed into another car, i was on the interstate when it happened. actually broke down three miles from my dealer. and just his morning a week after being fixed i heard a crunching noise in the front end and then a mile down the road on the way to work the engine light came on, gee i wonder what it would be, gas cap not on tight enough? i had just saved up the $600.00 dollars for the timing belt and water pump that it due to be changed at 105,000. $3300.00 for the transmission repair. *tr
2003 honda accord. consumer states transmission downshifted violently while driving 50 mph *tgw the consumer stated the transmission became stuck in first gear. the dealer determined the transmission was damaged internally. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving approximately 30 mph, another vehicle crashed into the front of the contacts vehicle. all of the vehicle air bags deployed except for the frontal driver air bag. the contact sustained bruising and minor injuries. the driver of the second vehicle was transported to the hospital via ambulance. the vehicle was towed to a collision center. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle had received recall repairs two days prior to the crash under nhtsa campaign id number: 10v364000 (electrical system:ignition) and stated that the air bag sensor could have been deactivated. the contact stated there was no light illuminated to indicate an airbag failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000. updated 05/04/11 *bf the consumer stated the transmission was replaced in august 2010 and in november 2008 the air bag light illuminated. updated 05/09/11
The night of february 22 while my family and i were driving down the highway our honda accord 2003 transmission downshifted very violently almost causing us to have an accident. we all yelled and had to stop the car on the side of the road for a while. it was very scary! it was like the car was unmanageable at that moment. somehow my husband managed to drive the car home very slowly because we were close. the next day he took the car to the honda dealer. they told us that the transmission looked really bad and need it to be changed, of course after we pay them $4,080.12!!! we have take good care of our car and this is terrible! now the car is inside our garage and we still have to pay for it. to our surprise, after google accord's transmissions on the internet, we found many complaints from other honda owners that experienced the same problem. we are shocked by honda's lack of responsibility and support!! this is a safety issue and we believe they should consider people complaints and recall the cars. it will be very sad if someone have an accident and die on the road because of the honda transmission failure. we hope that this will be investigated and fixed by honda. thank you *tr
On february 18th, 2011 my 2003 honda accord v6 ex-l sporadically and erratically started to down shift. from that point total loss of drive occurred within 10 minutes. previous traction control warning light stayed on a week prior to this happening. also a very high pitched whining or grinding occurred a few days prior (thought is was my front brakes). currently vehicle is at certified honda dealer waiting for inspection. mileage 71,499. transmission flush done at 59,000 and vehicle recall repair was done within 3 months of re-call notice. *tr
03 honda accord that had recall work on transmission in 04 down shifted from drive to second gear at speeds higher than 55 mph. like the breaks were applied. now it will not operate out of second gear and no reverse. *tr
Was driving 55-60 mph on a chicago expressway when the transmission started slipping and caused sudden deceleration. i was extremely frightened as the car started lurching, so i weathered it until i could get to a ramp. as it was a saturday night, no dealers or shops were open, so i survived the lurching all the way home and had my husband refill the transmission fluid. we then got it into a shop monday asap and got the news...bad solenoid and the transmission was blown. total cost to replace transmission = $3,232 at 97,000 miles. fyi: previous checkup one month prior revealed no trans problems, except for battery replacement.
2003 honda accord v6: automatic transmission slipping out of gear; either to neutral and reving high or violently downshifting. it has been slightly noticable for a while but not enough to think it was dangerous. then within the past 2 weeks it has become more pronounced and dangerous. this occured multiple times on on the highway within a 15 miles drive. multiple accidents were barely avoided when the downshift or slip would occur with other traffic on the road. i am concerned for my safety and others as this will likely lead to complete transmission failure and end with a crash. i have not taken any steps to fixing this yet becasue i know i will be told i need to buy a new transmission which seems unreasonable when a universal problem is apparent among this model/year of car. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated while driving 30 mph the transmission locked. the contact pulled over to the side of the road and shut the vehicle off. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the contact called the dealer regarding the transmission and the dealer stated the transmission needed to be replaced. the contact noticed numerous complaints regarding the transmission for his vehicle and stated this was a serious safety issue that could cause a crash. the failure mileage was 95,000. updated 06/16/11*lj
While driving to work which is about 10 miles from home in our 03 honda accord ex, the engine started to rev up and the car began to slow down the more i tried to get it to move the worse got. when i called the honda service dept. i was told that the transmission needed to be replaced. the car has 76000 miles and was told that the cost to repair was about 3800 dollars for a rebuilt trans and that i would have to pay for it because it was out of warranty. this transmission should be replaced by honda as they have done in other years because it is a life safety issue. i hope it does not take loosing a life to resolve this matter. i was thank full that i wasn't driving on a highway going at highway speeds. *tr
I own a 2003 honda accord ex v6. the cars transmission has been slipping for months now, and honda has not even offered to help correct the problem. i have called numerous times, and they say that until total transmission failure occurs, there is nothing i can do about it. now the transmission has failed, while i had a client in my car last friday. we were both jolted forward as the transmission slipped out of third gear and suddenly the engine revved up to 7000 rpm's. i apologized to him, dropped him off, and brought it straight to my local honda dealer. if this had occurred on the highway, there would have been serious damage or injuries to other cars or drivers. i noticed there is a recall on a part in the transmission, and this hasn't been fixed yet??? now i'm seeing hundreds of other people that this has happened to, and i can't believe that this is not a safety issue!!! if my client or i had been injured in an accident occurring from the faulty transmission, there would be multiple lawsuits filed with honda for negligence to fix the parts. this needs to be addressed by nhtsa and honda immediately!!!! if anyone can offer me advice, please do. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that while trying to place her vehicle in reverse it would not move. the vehicle was inspected by the dealer who advised her that she needed to replace the transmission. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages was approximately 73,000.
Premature transmission failure. transmission began not going into gear cold but after warming up shifted normally. 2 days later it started slipping so bad it barely made it to the dealer. the normal service interval for this transmission is 100,000 miles so i don't think it should fail prior to reaching this point. there was at one point a transmission recall for this vehicle however honda's position is that this has nothing to do with the failure. after doing some research i find many honda owners with the same complaint. when speaking with the dealer they indicated they would contact honda and ask for assistance on my behalf.as per the dealer after speaking with honda they (honda) would pick up 50% of the repair which was acceptable to me but what happens now is the dealer ups the price of the repair to $5000.00 and i get to pay $2500.00 which is what the normal cost should be. i retired from this business 2 years ago so i am pretty savy when it comes to prices. seeing as there are so many with the same problem honda should be doing all these repairs free.
I own a 2003 honda accord automatic, v6 and it has been having transmission problems for about a month now and honda has offered only for me to go in and replace my transmission completely for $4616. this all began spontaneously, a week after i went in to honda to get an oil change. the car will not pass 20mph unless if you step on the gas extremely hard, a couple of times. this now occurs everyday and everytime i use the car to go anywhere. this is dangerous because in the middle of possibly doing 30mph the car will drop down to 20mph and not want to go faster. *tr
Honda accord 2003 ex 6 cylinder, green with 64k miles two days back while on my way to a restaurant in new york city on 1-495 i got 2 major jerks i was about to bang into the car in front of me all this happened on my birthday and then when i got a parking on the street my car reverse gear stopped working. people were honking on me. i went to a honda dealer today and they said the transmission is gone bad. to replace they want $4158. i called honda america hoping for some help but all in vain. they said to contact the service manger and the regional filed manager. but after seeing all the post i don't think so any action will be taken . may be they will give me some discount that all that too when i will beg for it. my car has just $64k miles on it . i got my transmission fluid changed by the same honda dealer 2 months back. is there any way or any news from nhtsa ? is there a recall? this is really dangerous !!! honda sucks big time !!!! *tr
Transmission on 2003 accord has began to fail. transmission slips and often violently slams into gear when down shifting or placing vehicle in reverse. the problem is fairly consistent each time the vehicle is driven. nothing has been done to correct the problem, and honda has now twice claimed that "they can't duplicate the problem." research has shown that this problem is endemic to the 2003 accord, and the ultimate (and inevitable) failure of the transmission presents a safety concern. users have reported the vehicle violently quitting at freeway speeds, narrowly avoiding rear-end collisions, etc. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that the automatic transmission was slipping and would fail to engage into gear when driving 5 mph and up. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who rebuilt the transmission but the failure was not corrected and persisted. the vehicle was not further repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted in regards to the failure. the failure mileage was 160,000.
We were traveling, approx 2 hr dr. noticed very little revving up but would kick into gear, maybe an hour into the drive, transmission started slipping causing a hard stop and go motion. had to manually shift vehicle until the vehicle would not shift anymore. engine revved up to 6 & 7 and would slow down then speed up on its own. vehicle would not shift and would not reverse. let the car rest for about an hour and it would be fine for about 5 mins then start up again. had to tow the vehicle to the dealer where they said the recall was fixed and i may have to purchase new transmission. *tr
Automatic transmission second gear failed. transmission had to be rebuilt at considerable personal expense.. *tr
While driving my 03 accord exv6 the transmission slips and will not go into gear. i was merging onto the highway today and the car went to 6000 rpm before going into gear. i am looking into getting the transmission repaired or replaced with a remanufactured one. i brought the car in for the 04 recall on 12.14.04 after waiting 10 weeks for an appt. it was then modified with lube pipe kit. the transmission has never been right from the beginning it has always slipped. i see there are many many complaints about this. why isn't there a recall or any recourse from honda? this car was 1 day short of being a lemon. i sent repair documentation to honda hq in ca previously. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving approximately 30 mph the transmission failed and the vehicle shifted out of gear; when the rpms increased it shifted back into gear. the failure continued to occur. the vehicle was driven to an authorized dealer. the dealer advised him that the vehicle needed a new transmission. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure and current mileages were 97,000.
The last week of december 2010, around 96,930 miles, the automatic transmission on my 2003 honda accord v6 began to have problems shifting from second gear to third gear when in d4, reluctantly sliding into gear between second and third; i would have to back off on the throttle for the transmission to complete the shift. i also tried driving around town with the automatic transmission in d3 to see if that would overcome the sliding and hard shifting; it did not. the automatic transmission also began to have a noticeable hard downshift when hot, creating a pattern of very surprising hard downshifting that got worse very quickly. one time, when i was slowing down from 45 mph for a stop light, it downshifted so hard i inadvertently knocked it into neutral with my right arm. the unpredictability and severity of the hard downshifting caused me to immediately park the car. when hot, there are times when the transmission will now not shift above second gear and only reluctantly goes into reverse. this change occurred over the course of several days for a total of 67 miles traveled. when the transmission is cold it shifted normally on the way to the way to the facility that works on my honda: they were able to duplicate the erratic and hard downshifting when reaching operating temperature. the automatic transmission failed at 97,067 miles; the car was purchased new in august of 2003. the automatic transmission unit is being replaced with a rebuilt automatic transmission unit as i am told there are no new units being manufactured (per honda). on the failed unit i had the honda 2nd gear oil jet recall performed on the transmission in september 2004; transmission drain and flush at 42,000 and 95,000 miles; and transmission drain and refill at 60,000 miles. i had driven 8200 miles in october 2010 (fairfax, va. to seattle, wa, and back) without a problem. i have observed the manufacturers required maintenance schedules. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph the transmission had failed by her trying to accelerate and it had hesitated. she had to shut the vehicle down and restart again in order to get the vehicle moving. the vehicle stalled on the contact about 4 different times upon leaving her location. the vehicle was inspected by a independent mechanic who informed the contact that there was a transmission failure and for her to call honda. the manufacturer was contacted and they informed her that the vehicle was repaired for recall nhtsa campaign id number (04v176000- power train:automatic transmission) prior to her purchasing the vehicle. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Transmission started to slip out of gear @ 66k miles in '06. car was being leased and still under lease, took to dealer and they replaced transmission free of charge under "good faith". just today the replacement transmission is starting to slip out of gear while driving. car now has 160k miles. there is obviously a problem with this year transmission as i have had two now and am having issues w/ the replacement. *tr
At normal acceleration and at random, violent gear shift from low to high. sometimes from 2 to 3, other times from 3 and up. transmission remains in same gear (2 or 3) close to (6000rpm) then violently slams into next gear!! seem some scary moments. effects started at 110k miles; got to dangerous at 122k miles. auto repair shop declared transmission failure. replaced transmission. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the consumer stated there were problems with the vehicles second gear. the mechanic checked the vehicle and informed the consumer it would cost 3,900 to replace the transmission. prior to going to the mechanic, the discovered a recall had been issued for her model and year vehicle. the consumer reported the problem to the manufacturer and several days later, she received a message which stated the warranty on her vehicle had expired. the consumers husband contacted honda and he was informed that since regular transmission maintenance was not performed on the vehicle no assistance would be provided. updated 03/03/11 *bf updated 04/21/11
In 2006, owner requested dealer to replace transmission as part of manufacturer recall. dealer opted to inspect the affected gear and install oil jet kit in lieu of transmission replacement. in 2010, transmission failed unexpectedly and without warning while driver was operating the vehicle on highway at highway speed. transmission locked into 1st gear and would not up-shift, creating an immediate threat to life-safety due to inability to maintain highway speed. danger was especially severe due to lack of shoulder on roadway, limited sight distance, and time of day (night time). high likelihood of serious injury and/or death to vehicle occupant and/or other drivers. entire transmission must be replaced to correct problem. *tr
Honda accord 03 transmission failure, i just recently bought an 03 with 97k miles and after about 3k miles (1 month) the gears started slipping. i was visiting family 3 hours away from my home when the car wouldn't go into 2nd gear, or 3rd. this is very frustrating. i was lucky not to have been hit by other vehicles on the highway. *tr
2003 honda accord recalled in 2004 to install oil cooling line in transmission due to overheating issue. transmission has never shifted smoothly. transmission started shifting very rough from second to third gear with a loud noise and shutter. after it was warmed up it would slip. within a week it failed completely. fluid was black and smelled burnt. mileage was 130400. honda dealer replaced transmission for $4500. i was not able to get any goodwill help with the cost from the dealer or honda customer service. *tr
I have a safety concern with my 2003 honda accord ex that was purchased six (6) months ago. i've noticed while driving this vehicle, the automatic transmission gears are locking up, which slows the car to a near stop, without any prior warning. my car slows down as if i, while driving, shifted the car to neutral. when this happens, regardless of how hard i press the accelerator, my vehicle fails to pick up speed until i come to a complete stop, press the brake and proceed to drive the vehicle again at a very slow rate of speed. on three occasions, i have experienced this deceleration, which causes my check engine light to turn on. i had to coast to the shoulder of the road, come to a complete stop, put the car in park, put my emergency lights on and attempt to make it home safely. this is a tremendous safety concern that can easily lead to a rear end collision/accident on the road due to the abrupt slowing down without prior warning. to continue to overlook these complaints and concerns regarding the automatic transmission problems/defects with the 2003 honda accord is serious and could possibly lead to death if a solution is not address in a timely manner. *tr
2003 honda accord ex appears to down shift randomly while driving. causes severe jerking of car. sometimes is unable to shift gears. very unsafe to drive. local dealer says that it is the transmission and that the cost to fix it would be around $4,000. problem appears to be common with this year and model. honda non-compliant in fixing the issue. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord ex. while driving approximately 60 mph, the transmission suddenly failed when the contact depressed the accelerator pedal. the contact tried to downshift but nothing changed. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer but the vehicle was not inspected. the contact referenced recall 04v176000 (power train: automatic transmission) but stated that the repair work was performed in 2005. the contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 128,000.
My complaint pertains to the transmission failure that has occurred 3-december 2010. purchased new, single owner/driver. this transmission was recalled in 2004 for the 2nd gear of the automatic transmission because it would over heat and possibly explode destroying the transmission. i had the "fix" honda implemented for this recall done shortly after i received the recall notice. i have had the transmission fluid changed at the honda dealership only a minimum of every two years as honda advised me to do pertaining to their maintenance schedule and my driving conditions. i had my transmission fluid changed 2 weeks prior to the transmission failing and it would slip out of 2nd gear going into 3rd gear at a frequency of once per day for three days in a row and then would not happen for a couple days. this issue was resolved by letting of the gas and the car would shift into 3rd successfully. it will fail to accelerate when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear. it varies in time when it will re-engage and it has left me in a dangerous situation several times and there is no warning for this failure. it has been reported numerous times and seems to be a common problem of this year and model. recently i pulled out onto a roadway and began to accelerate, when the transmission failed to engage when shifting into 3rd gear, en route traffic caught up to me and my abrupt failure to accelerate/merge with traffic, caused a near accident of several of those vehicles that were approaching with wet road conditions as to my vehicle that was abruptly stranded and non-mobile. i was nearly rear ended and had no warning that this failure is going to occur. the car that was behind me was able to swerve to the shoulder to avoid striking my car with the front end of their vehicle. i believe this to be a serious safety issue and am very concerned as i have read of hundreds of the exact same issue i have with the same 2003 honda accord i own. honda has a serious problem. *tr
Car struggles to gain speed after stopping or slowing down to turn. the rpm will increase but the car does not accelerate. in order for car to accelerate i will have to place the gear in neutral and then shift to drive. i have taken the car to the dealership on several occasions but they have not been able to duplicate or identify the problem. my concern is that it may be related to the transmission which has previoiusly been recalled on this vehicle. *tr
I have a 2003 v6 honda accord that has reached 100k that has a completely failed transmission. while driving down the freeway to work my car violently down shifted in which i almost lost control. i immediately pulled over and checked to see if my car could switch between all the gears. when i felt confident i continued my trip. the car seemed to drive fine to my destination so again i felt comfortable to drive it home. i decided to take side streets home and good thing i did. my car again after traveling around 40 mph violently dropped to first gear. the car shook so violently that my sunglasses flew off. again i pulled over and double checked switching between gears. i then proceeded to head home in which i traveled carefully at very a low speed in which now my car just sits. i understand failure happens but a car should not fail after only 100k miles. i had an extended warranty on the car in which it was regularly maintenance, unfortunately my warranty recently expired. in 2004 there was a transmission recall for my cars model that was to correct a possible failure of the part. although this was supposedly corrected, there was still a failure of the transmission. i then brought my car to a local honda dealership that has many times performed service maintenance on my vehicle for diagnosis. they then proceed to tell me that i need to replace my transmission for a cost of $4500. i was outraged that i would need to pay the amount for an obvious faulty part and i let them know that. i was then told that, "well, how long do you think a transmission is supposed to last?", which further enraged me. my college car of another make made it to 250k miles, and probably even more, until it was donated to charity. now i'm currently dealing with honda in hopes to resolve this matter. i'm hoping that they are willing to take accountability for their faulty transmission and salvage any respect and confidence that me and my family have for honda vehicles. *tr
2003 honda accord ex. transmission failed at 60mph on i-40 in nashville, tn car bucked and came to stop in traffic. car was fine, transmission went, hard time getting car off the interstate. *tr
My wife bought this car brand new in 2003 and recently experienced a failure of 3rd gear in the automatic transmission. transmission will not shift into 3rd gear and goes into neutral mode. will continue on to 4th gear only if you back off the throttle, which slows the vehicle down in the process. this puts the occupants and vehicles behind you at risk of a rear end collision. problem is the 3rd gear clutch pack in the transmission that is used in the 2003 honda accord v-6's. local transmission shop said that this part has been on local backorder from honda for 9 months and does not know when new parts will be available. called honda corporate and they said that there would not be any help since the car is 7 years old/108k miles. only choice was to use a transmission out of a salvage vehicle, which could lead to another failure since the salvage transmission would also be subject to this failure. this has been a recurring and known issue for 2003 honda accord v-6's and it would be nice to see them issue a tsb for this issue and replace the transmission under warranty. *tr
Transmission started slipping out of gear and/or would not go into gear. it progressively got worse in a matter of couple days. at one point i was on the freeway and it slipped out of gear. it seems to work when the car is just starting. once the car is warmed up, the real issue begins. *tr
Transmission begin slipping between 2nd and 3rd under hard acceleration, as is typical for this year accord, indicating eminent tranny failure. took the car to honda dealership and asked for a goodwill repair after hearing the cost of transmission replacement ($3700). honda offered to cover 75% of the cost, which i accepted. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle was shifting in and out of gear. in addition, when first entering the vehicle the contact was unable to switch gears. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages was 130,000.
On november 16, i was driving with my wife on the interstate at about 75 mph. suddenly, the tires locked and squealed enough that i could smell the rubber. both of our seatbelts locked out because of the deceleration. about 1/2 second later, the car continued normally and we slowed to 55 mph. we proceeded to the nearest exit and experienced another sudden deceleration that was not as severe as the initial one. we pulled into the nearest parking lot and i got out of the car to check the brakes. they appeared normal. when i shifted the transmission from park to drive, the entire car shook with a pronounced "clunk." when i shifted the car back to p and returned it to d, it shook the entire car again. the car drove normally around the lot, so we started driving to the dealership. the car would not shift past second gear once we got on the road. we pulled into a parking lot and had the car towed the remaining distance to the dealership. maintenance has been performed according to the owner's manual service schedule. my research found hundreds of similar issues with 2003 accord transmissions. the local dealership said they had never seen this issue before. the dealership will charge over $4400 to replace the transmission. other websites suggested contacting corporate honda directly to request "goodwill" financial assistance. i recalled the details to the representative who would not offer assistance because it was outside of warranty. the representative also stated they had not heard of this happening to any of their 2003 accords, which is highly suspicious given the 100s of complaints that i found. *tr
2003 honda accord v6, transmission failure. transmission fails to shift into gear leaving driver with no power. *tr
I purchased a 2003 honda accord new along with an extended warranty of 72 months 75,000 miles. in 2004 with 19,000 miles my vehicle was subject to a recall for the transmission. the "required" fix was made and i was told this should solve any problems. two weeks ago with 75,300 miles, my transmission went. the dealer charged $3600 (not including port charges) to have this repair made. i was told that "third" gear failed. the repair originally made was for "second" gear. since this was out of warranty and not part of the recall, i was responsible for complete payment. after contacting honda of america, i was told they would pick up half the cost. it appears i am not alone in this situation. this is a very dangerous situation. when the transmission failed (with no prior notice), i was driving in light traffic, and was able to get out of the way of other vehicles. had this failed earlier in the day, i would have been in a serious accident. *tr
Driving home a couple hours ago the transmission violently downshifted to first gear when i was accelerating on the parkway doing about 65mph. threw me violently forward thank god i wear my seat belt or else i probably would have went through the windshield. would not shift up out of first gear after the initial downshift. pulled over and restarted my car. continued about ten minutes really slowly in the right lane until i got off at my exit. i steadily began to brake coming to a red light and all of a sudden it downshifted to a halt making the person behind my slam on their brakes and come to a screeching stop. continued to drive down the 25mph residential road leading to my house at 20mph because any more acceleration shot the rpms up to redline. when i got to my house i also realized that when i put the car in reverse, the reverse gear does not activate and instead the car just revs as if it is in neutral when giving it gas. this is ridiculous and a serious safety issue to say the least. since purchasing this car i have always babied it and had the scheduled maintenance performed. there are hundreds of issues like mine and it is known by honda that these transmissions are a problem. they should stand by their reputation and fix or replace the transmissions free of charge. *tr
I was driving to work when the gears where shifting down or not shifting at all. good thing i was only 10 miles from work and coasted to work until i could get it to a local auto shop. once there, the shop informed me that i need a brand new transmission. we now are in the process of putting in a rebuilt transmission for $4,000. i called honda to see what they could do and they have refused to help. i want to make sure that others are aware of this situation and should have a recall. the car is a 2003 honda accord v-6 with 117,000. we keep up on all the car maintenance and this should not happen. unacceptable. *tr
While in top gear the transmission would suddenly shift out of gear causing a jolt. within 20 minutes of this happening for the first time the car would no longer shift into top gear but i was able to get home in lower gear. the car has been owned by my parents and myself since it's purchase, it has never been driven in a radical manner and it has been serviced at a honda dealership following the extreme maintenance schedule. the transmission is to be changed and the pcm also. the car has 144000km. i have seen that in the us honda is covering the transmission in these years for up to 160000km as a result of a class action suit. honda canada unfortunately has no such coverage and the deal they are offering me is 2800$+ tax for the repairs instead of the 7000$ they claim it should be costing me. independent transmission company's have given me prices of 2500$ and 2800$. it makes em feel that they give me an extreme price so that they can give me a "rebate" which works out to not being a deal at all. i'm very disappointed that honda is not standing behind their product and that their product is no where near the quality that gave honda the reputation it earned in the 90s. *tr
Pulling onto a major highway and the acceleration stopped as if the car was in neutral. no prior warning or engine light. almost was rear ended by a truck going atleast 55 mph. car had to be towed to princeton honda where i originally purchased the car. since the car had 98,563 it was out of warranty despite the gear 2 recall in 2004. princeton honda quoted $4200 for a rebuilt transmission and america honda would offer 25% as a good faith discount bring the price to $3,600. the car was worth $7,200 on kelleys blue book as a trade and honda princeton who sold be the car was only willing to offer $4,000 as a trade if i bought a car off the lot. i had few options and settled at a trade value of $5,000. so much for honda's having a great resale value! *tr
