Transmission locked causing crash-see recall no 04v-176 affecting certain honda models , however my vehicle which is a 4cyl. honda accord was evidentially not part of the recall. *nm
Car was recalled in 2004 for transmission. at that time mileage was very low and transmission was modified, not replaced. on august 1, 2005 i took my car to baron honda, patchogue ny, due to transmission shifting problems - while accelerating transmission would go into neutral, not second gear. baron returned the car that evening stating there was no problem. the following morning (aug 2nd), while traveling at 60 mph, upon easing up on the accelerator the car violent dropped into second gear, slowing it dramatically and throwing me against the seatbelt. at the time i was in heavy rush hour traffic. this occurred several more times as i tried to get to the right and off the highway. after towing, honda city, levittown, ny, diagnosed a complete transmission failure. honda replaced the transmission (over warranty at 44,000 miles) under their goodwill program. despite this i feel that i was placed in a very dangerous situation due to both a faulty transmission and the first dealers failure to properly evaluate and diagnose the problem. this car has had numerous problems (recalls, rocking driver seat, catalytic converter failure) and lacks the quality of my previous honda vehicles.*jb
2003 honda accord. the transmission has a problem trying to find a gear to shift, causing the engine to race.***no answer required*** *mr (transmission slippage) while driving the vehicle on gently rolling hills, the vehicle continued to shift up and down, never finding a gear, along with jerking in spurts up on one hill and down on the other. *sc the consumer stated there was a recall issued regardging the transmission. *jb

I have a 2003 honda accord ex with a manual transmission, with approximately 9,000 miles. by the way, i had the master clutch cylinder replaced about 4,000 miles ago.*ak in any event, on the incident date, i was unable to shift the car in any gear, and had to have it towed to the dealer. the diagnosis is a defective o-ring in the clutch assembly, which caused the fluid to completely leak out. i view this as a serious problem, as if it happened on the road it could be a serious safety hazard, and if it happened in a remote spot, it could result in being stuck in the middle of nowhere. the honda service attendant told me that the o-ring was on back order, which indicated to him that many other cars had suffered this same problem.
Consumer received recall 04v176000 concerning automatic transmission. parts were not available. consumer suggested that they should not be notified of a recall until the parts were available for repairs at the dealership. *ak

Complaint received via e-mail. i purchased a brand new car, and since then i have been back to the dealership numerous amounts of times for many problems. first problem was my brakes needed to be replaced at 4600 miles, but weren't replaced until 7700 miles 3.5 months later due to back order. currently, with 17,900 miles the brakes were grinding again. this is my 3rd honda, and the worse one, yet likely my last. the second problem was that my right rear door was locked for 3 months. the dealer claimed that the problem was due to getting my windows tinted, but they attempted to fix three times, and was told the third time the problem only occurs if the temperature goes below 32 degrees. since then the temperature has been over 32 degrees. i also have problems with sulfur odor coming from the exhaust, and was told that this was normal problem ,would go away with time. but as time goes by the odor gets worse, and smells like rotten eggs. another problem with the car is the alignment has been off since i bought the car. i have had my own mechanic look at the car, and he believes the car won't align correctly because of the axles. the final problem with my piece of crap honda is the driver seat isn't secure, it slides very little back and forth and side to side.*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. the contact received a recall notice for the transmission; however, the vehicle exceeded the mileage to receive a new transmission. the dealer installed in a new oil jet instead. currently, a new transmission is needed and the contact feels that the manufacturer should pay for it instead of paying 25% of the $680 repair cost. she feels that the dealer strung her along until the warranty expired on the vehicle. the nhtsa campaign id number was unknown. the current mileage was 70,000 and failure mileage was 18,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord. while driving between 5-60 mph, the transmission would shift into second gear. the contact heard a whining noise coming from the engine compartment. when the accelerator pedal was released and gently reapplied, the transmission would shift back into the proper gear. the vehicle was repaired for nhtsa campaign id number 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission) in 2004. the failure occurred before and after the recall repair was performed. the failure was not duplicated or repaired by the dealer. the current mileage was 117,000 and the failure mileage was unknown.
Car was in park with engine running on a flat driveway. car rolled down driveway across a street, over a curb, on to a neighbors lawn and came to rest on a pile of logs. engine was till running and car was still in park. fortunately there was no personal damage, although there was damage to the back bumper. it was checked out by the honda dealer, no problems according to them ,they suggested using the emergency brake at all times. i feel this is a major safety issue, i truly find it hard to believe a car could roll when in park, it leaves me with quite a bit of doubt. *ak
The consumer was able to remove the key from the ignition although the vehicle wasn't in park. *nm the vehicle rolled into a trailer which caused damage to the vehicle. *jb
My 2006 honda accord coupe v6 has been diagnosed with transmission failure at a honda dealership in bethesda, md. after picking the car up from tiresplus to get new tires i proceeded to drive home on 395 from alexandria, va to washington dc. as i approached a traffic light my car began to jerk and down-shift. i attempted to accelerate but the car would just jerk as other drivers swerved around me. i could not drive above 35mph. my car revved to 4000 and 5000 rpms at those low speeds for about 4 miles. the repair bill is estimated at $5200 to install a new transmission. i have not experienced any major, non-maintenance related engine problems with this car prior to this. *tr
I was able to easily remove the ignition key from an automatic transmission car. because of this, i assumed the transmission was in park when actually it was in reverse. later the car rolled forward striking at least one other car.*ak
After multiple service visits, test drives and complaints to honda america and my honda dealer, my 03 accord ex v6 coupe's whining transmission was determined to be "normal." on my first drive on a freeway after picking up my car, my honda failed to accelerate past 50 mph and the tachometer red lined, i released the gas pedal and the car's transmission jumped into 1st or 2nd gear without warning. i was almost hit by a car behind me that didn't have any warning of my sudden deceleration. it took a near accident for honda to finally replace my transmission. *la
Transmission failure at 1500 miles on a brand new 2003 honda accord.
Reading complaints in your website will support my claim that i had experienced a sudden speed while on reverse without putting pressure on the gas pedal. i must have experienced it today thrice. the first two i ignored but the third one had me looking at your website. i can't wait to file a complaint since this is an urgent safety issue especially when you live where kids freely plays. i'm calling the dealership and manufacturer about this tomorrow. i also have issue that some consumers have experienced, the car pulling to the left. my car is barely a month with 731 mi. on it. i'd appreciate your advise.
Car developed a high pitch whistle noise at 1500 miles. took to dealer who determined that there was an internal defect in the transmission. transmission was replaced with a remanufactured transmission per honda's warranty policy. american honda was extremely curt in handling my complaint. further research has shown that american honda is currently suffering from a transmission failure crisis in its 1999-2003 accord, prelude, odyysey, and acura tl/cl automobile lineup.
On one of my visit to the dealer to complaint about my the brakes on my car i also complained about the fact that my car makes noise when i am driving on surface that should not make my car sound like their doors are not put on correctly. i thought because it was new it was just a new car squeak but when i drive with the radio off i can hear this noise and i can just imagine what it will sound like when the car is not so new. when i drive in any other vehicle i listen for this sound and i don't hear this noise but as usual the dealer cannot find it. i will be taking in my car for the same brake problems again. on 9/12/203. this will be the fourth time. the first time was on nov/6/2002,and they resurface the rotors. the second time was on feb/1/2003, they replace both front disc. the third time may/01/2003, they replace brake pads. the pads are very high and the rotors are thick. there is no sign of warp or roughness that i can feel whem i inspect the brakes and i am some what familiar with brakes.
(1) a. window being scratched by something in panel. both driver and passanger window. b. at about 16000 miles it was noticed that the transmission was leaking so badly i couldn't drive out of the dealership. ( i believe the car may have been leaking since purchase. new with only 36 miles.) c. trunk liner sagging. d. when making left hand turns if you have the sunvisor out it can swing and hit you in the head. e. passenger door latch not activated. could not open door from inside. (dealer forgot to install this on window repair.) f. motor mounts not installed correctly. g. belt tensioner needed replacement. h. car pulling to the right. f. black seal around door frame warping. (2) no consequences from any of these failures. except loss time having to leave car overnight for several days. who know what longterm effects of a leaky transmission, belt tensioner, and improper motormounts have on the car. (3) under warranty the dealer corrected every problem. mosts times more then one repair for the same problem was needed to correct the problem. for the tranmsission the dealer tried to stop the leaks with hondabond. the next morning i had leaks in the drive way. they had my car for a whole week on the first fix attempt. finally honda replaced the transmission with a new one. nothing was done about the visor because the dealer said if they install a new one it will do the same. my windows are still being scratched by the felt lining in the window panel. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda accord ex. while the contact was driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle began to shake with an intense vibration. the "check engine" warning light illuminated. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the failure recurred on two separate occasions. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the technician informed that the transmission would need to be replaced. also, he reset the transmission code. the contact stated that the transmission had been previously replaced twice. the failure mileage was 2.
My 03, honda, accord had been drifting to the right, and felt a little bumpy. while i was driving my axle had snapped off. this was something honda never heard off, and said it was my fault, saying i had hit something. there is no damage done to my car, proving nothing was hit. i am very scared to have this happen to me i am glad that i was slowing down. i am not sure how this happened, but it was not due to any actions caused by me. honda has claimed that they have nothing to do with this since there seems to be no mechanical problems. also honda said this could never happen to their car and that was all they wanted to say.*ak
Around 6000 km, whenever i step on the gas pedal, i would feel the car shake slightly..and an engine sound. at first, i thought i just needed an oil change, even though 6000 was a bit low km for a oil change...i thought maybe because i purchase the car in winter time, and it was now summer time. i took the car in for oil change, also tellign them the problem...and sure enough..after the examination, they told me there was oil leak bottom of the car...and the whole transmission needed to be replaced. the service centre also told me that this is a very rare incident, and it is consider a defect..and this kind of stuff only happens to cars over 600,000. also that, if i had waited...all the oil could have dripped and would cause a whole engine failure. either way..it was not a good feeling to know that i needed to replace my transmission at 6000km.
On july 31, 2010, i was driving about 45-50 mph on a highway. twice when i lightly accelerated, the car jerked forward as if i had hit the accelerator very hard rather than very lightly. this happened twice that day; nothing like this had ever happened before. my transmission failed the next day on august 1, 2010 while i was on the interstate. it failed very spectacularly. i was driving 70ish mph (that is the speed limit). i slowed when i approached a car in front of me. when it pulled over so i could pass, i lightly touched the accelerator and the car jerked as if i had hit the brake very hard. i was shocked and scared; i quickly took my foot off the accelerator and let the car slow. i removed my sandal to be sure my foot was only touching the correct pedal and i could feel exactly the pressure i was putting on it; i put my sandal in the seat beside me. i lightly stepped on the accelerator again with my bare foot, and again the car jerked as if i had hit the brake hard. i braked gently and pulled over to the shoulder, stopped and put the car in park. after i calmed from the fear, i shifted into d3 to try another gear (rather than d). i slowly accelerated and in a few seconds the car started jerking as if i hit the accelerator hard, then the engine revved with no engagement of transmission, then it jerked as if i braked hard; all this in a matter of seconds at a slow speed on the shoulder. again i braked gently, stopped and put the car in park. last night, aug 1, i had it towed to the dealer where the technician test drove it this morning, aug 2. he told my service advisor the car was frightening to drive; he told my service advisor that the transmission was very bad, that he felt as if he might get whiplash. they gave me an estimate to replace the transmission at $4500. *tr
From start to the first shifting of the transmission, at low speeds, the shifting is slow and makes your head lurch forward. at faster acceleration the transmisison shifts normal.
This vehicle has been defective from the outset. the wrong lug nuts were on the wheels. i got a ride of vibration for 13,000 miles and 25 trips to the dealership and independent tire shops. this was followed by a differential which failed and two transmissions after the original for a total of three. i never got one mile of the new car ride a new car would normally provide. countless trips and stop gap repairs ,i am now afraid to take a trip. i have asked honda for a new car three time including japan and they have declined 'stating they cover the 3rd transmission with a warranty and have helped. i have been stranded 5 times the many trips to culver city from van nuys were not all documented as\ the work orders were redacted by [xxx], who honda claims since have been released(fired).i have invoices of over almost 5 1/2 inches wide collectively. if ever a car was 'fraudulent' in terms of a vehicle that did not ever mesh mechanically this is the 'prototype' honda accord if there is any justice a new car would be provided and be deemed a most appropriate resolution on this matter of the car which never worked from the outset. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
When auto should be coasting or under very slight load, feel intermittent engine braking, engine rpm is fluctuating indicating transmission is searching between gears. dealer said that is the way they all are. very annoying. *jb
I purchased my $34,000 2003 accord on may 13, 2003 from route 23 honda in pomton plains, nj. after purchasing it, i noticed that the plastic/glass moldings around the doors were were very deformed. three moldings have been fixed after 2 times being in for service, and one has yet to be fixed(waiting for part). the radio was making a squeaking noise and deformed looking, and they replaced the entire unit. on the right front tire well, there was a molding that was never screwed in properly, and began to hang down, which was replaced. the shifter has a loose stitch on it, which is becoming very sharp and can possibly cut someone. the part was put on order 3 months ago, but i was never notified of it's arrival. the driver side windshield wiper nozzle sprays directly into the wiper arm. this was brought in for service 4 times, and finally another dealership(sussex honda) ordered a new nozzle which will hopefully work. the car has a slight burning smell when i park the car after driving. i brought this to honda's attention, but of course they didn't find anything wrong with it. the car also has a slight grinding feeling that can mostly be felt between 1500 and 2500 rpms. i brought this into service 4 times and they couldn't find anything wrong(again). along with that, when i put the car in drive, after about 20 feet it makes a horrible grinding noise and feeling in the gears. the car also seems to lack the power that it should have. i know this because i had a 2003 accord lx v6 coupe, and then traded it in for a 2003 accord ex v6 coupe. the lx had a lot more power than the ex. also the lx had no wiper problems, grinding problems, or other problems that i have with the ex. overall i have found 10 defects with my car within the first month of having it. after all of these problems, and having the dealership and the honda service center hotline treat me as if i was making up these problems and that it was my fault for having these problems i will never buy another honda again! *la
