The a/c compressor drips directly on the subframe, which rusted it completely apart. which in turn, destroyed the suspension. my car is now waiting to be towed back to my house, totally not drivable. i was on a city street. normal turn around a corner. if i would have been injured, i would be filing a lawsuit against honda for extremely poor engineering and lack of thinking this horrible design flaw through completely. please contact me asap at [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

When i purchased my car the ac was not working so i had it checked and was told that it was not connected and was told that honda's have been having problems with the frames rotting out due to the location of the ac drain. upon having the frame inspected was told that my vehicle would not pass another state inspection. my car is in great shape body wise with no other rust. i was told that this is a big safety issue and upon researching on line have seen that numerous people are having the same problems. just want to know why honda is not being held responsible for these repairs. honda has always been a car of choice for my family but after this i will never purchase another honda. *tr

I was attempting to turn left at a highway intersection and the honda totally stalled and the green key light came on the dash . the vehicle did not lose total power but it stalled while a fast vehicle approached from the right. i was afraid i would not get through the intersection without a wreck. it was a terrifying experience. after that first incident the vehicle totally lost power while at a stop sign in a mall. it took 2 attempts to restart the car. i could not imagine what the problem could possibly be so i researched the possible problem and found that this honda had ignition switch problems. i purchased this vehicle in 2007 and it had approximately 121, 200 miles . i checked the papers received when buying the auto and the vehicle was recalled in 2002 due to a defect in the ignition switch. an "ignition switch update" was completed on 10/1/02 at 59,183 miles by an authorized honda dealer. i have had not issues until january 2012. looks like i will have to replace this switch again but it is too dangerous to not address the problem. can't imagine this problem at 70mph . *tt

1999 honda accord ex-v6. consumer states vehicle engine quit and would not restart and gear shift would lock *tgw the consumer stated after waiting for about five minutes; she was able to restart the vehicle and continue as normal. the dealer was unable to find a problem. *jb

1999 honda accord stalls while vehicle is in motion at all speeds. this is extremely hazardous since power steering and power brakes are lost. this has happened 4 times in the last month. *tr

On the way back to home, suddenly there was burst sound, when i checked, the radiator tube had burst. i took it to the nearest mechanic, then he said, there was problem with radiator and he fixed the radiator. it worked well for a week and then started leaking of coolant. i took it again to the mechanic, then he said it may be a problem with head gasket or may be we have to replace the whole head. if it is the head gasket it will be 1200 to 1500. if it is the head then you end up spending up to 3000 to 3500. i can't imagine a case if this incident happens when i was on freeway at 70 mph. i have bought the car exactly one year back and i am the second owner of the car. when i checked on the web, there were a quite a few similar cases. god knows only why few cars from honda get this problem. my friend who is holding a similar car has 40k more miles on it and uses it without spending any money on maintenance.

At times, engine suddenly dies out when coming to a stop (traffic light; stop sign). the car has automatic transmission. i can easily put the car in "park" again and restart with no problem. the car has 80k miles and is well maintained. after a few of these scary experiences, took the car to a local honda dealership in atlanta ga. cost of $160 (description - routine maintenance - bg fuel service all - cleaned throttle body). assumed this would have corrected the issue. i was wrong. in two more occasions - had the same problem again. the last time it happened, the car suddenly stopped while slowing down to stop at a "stop sign". the car started again (takes a while in an automatic transmission though). i was lucky a car behind me had enough space to stop. this time, i researched the web and noticed many owners have similar problems with honda accord 1999. i was one of the lucky ones though (the car had not yet stopped while driving in a busy traffic). at 20,374 mile, the same honda dealership performed the "2002 safety recall - accord ignition switch" - "electrical ignition switch fp number : 3510-s84-305 (switch e 79530)", this was done on 12/03/02. took the car back to the honda dealership on 10/28/11. i asked the service technician to look into the 2002 ignition switch recall ; customer complaints & what else was performed to correct it. i don't believe this service adviser was aware of this major safety issue with honda accords (1999). this time the dealership surprised me with replacing ignition switch again. this was a $405 repair. the fp number is 35130-s84-a01 (switch s 79530). i assume there are two parts in the ignition switch. i am not certain why the 2002 safety recall did not advice the dealerships to replace both parts (e & s switches). the dealership advised me the "s" switch is behind the ignition switch. *tr

Driving down the highway and my 1999 honda accord ex. shuts off. the steering wheel sometimes tightens up but this last time i was able to pull over without a problem. good thing i was in the right hand lane close to the shoulder. my car has been doing this for a while and cannot figure out why. at first it would go down to a really low idle before it shut off but now it just turns off. it's even worse now that i changed the spark plugs. *tr

Car shuts off while driving... going 70mph or going 15mph. engine clicks off, lights still work but car engine is no longer running. *tr

My 1999 honda accord keeps stalling on me without any warning. i'm able to restart it again but it cuts off again. after a few more attempts it will stay running but will stall again without any signs of a problem. this has happened to me while trying to enter the entrance of the freeway. i'm lucky i wasn't hit from behind...very dangerous when you have kids in the car with you. i've been told by honda dealer that it's the ignition switch...a $400.00 plus cost to fix. *tr

1999 honda accord 4dr at with 77k miles. without warning, car stalled when decelerating on freeway off ramp. "maint req" light came on. power door locks clicked up and down. able to safely come to a stop. car restarted right away. a few days later, when leaving my workplace parking lot, the car stalled again after about 1 block, fortunately i was only driving about 20 mph. same symptoms -- maint req light came on and the power door locks clicked up and down. restarted car right away. local mechanic could not replicate issue, but suggested replacing ignition switch due to symptoms described. i had him perform the replacement, even through ignition switch was replaced under recall in sept 2005 when car had about 35k miles. *tr

Engine shuts down itself when running on the highway or on the street roads. *tr

As i was driving down hwy 95 in maryland the engine died. luckily i was in the right lane so i was able to coast off the road to the shoulder. the problem has occurred several times since and the mechanics i have taken the car to have not been able to find the problem. *tr

On monday, february 22, 2010, i was driving on the highway when the battery, abs and door lights suddenly displayed on the dashboard. the care was driving fine after this but about a mile later, the engine shut off. i noticed the drive belts had come off. roadside assistance was contacted to tow the car to the nearest location within 15miles. hence, the car was towed to my destination, then eventually towed to richfield-bloomington honda where they determined that the crankshaft key was installed incorrectly causing the pulley to be wobbly forcing the belts to come off while driving. brookdale honda performed the maintenance repair that has been linked to this incident since the crank shaft bolt was not tightened to the right torque. they are refusing to take responsibility for damage as a result of technician error. *tr

My honda1999 barley has 79,000 on it, im second owner. i bought it when it had only 37,000 mil. on it. the car is already having transmission problems. it jerks when driving and coming to a stop, like a pop jerky feel. my cooling system had problem in 2010 oil going into my radiator. and know i have electrical problem. the car at times would go off. 79,000 i cant believe it. you would think this my car was a ford with their older modules. known to have engine problems after 70,000. this is crazy. i have all papers from first owner, never realized till reaching the chaos of my engine. that my car as well was a recall. i have the documents. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 honda accord. while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to coast to the side of the road. the contact waited fifteen minutes and restarted the vehicle; the vehicle functioned normal. the contact called the manufacturer who stated that there were no related recalls. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000. the current mileage was approximately 125,000.

My car will randomly stall out when stop or driving. its stalled while stopped at a light, turning after stopped at a stop sign, on the highway during rush hour traffic. all the lights will come on, the rpm will fall to zero, its will kind of chug like if a manual were to stall even though it is an automatic. the spark plugs, ignition switch, distributor and pvc valve have been replaced. *tr

Just found out today from my mechanic during an oil change that oil was leaking into my antifreeze component. as a matter of fact, my oil chamber was near-empty and my antifreeze component was black and full of oil. he also said that he had seen other cases of this in this particular make and model where the engines had to be replaced. *tr

Engine would shut down while driving. this happened several times prior to breach in the engine due to a porous engine. i had to have a new2 engine put in car. *tr

This is a v6 automatic. i have kept up with the maintenance of the vehicle exactly as honda has instructed. i have even gone as far to only get it serviced at the dealership. the vehicle has always shifted weird from park into drive. at 75000 miles it began hard shifting into 1st and around 85000 miles it began to not want to shift from 1st into 2nd and especially 2nd back to 1st. now putting the car in reverse is causing problems. this issue with 1999 v-6 automatics is documented everywhere. the dealer said they are aware the issue is wide spread and can't do anything about it. honda has been aware of this problem as a wide spread defect and the nhtsa should put some pressure on honda to step-up. a well maintained engine should last more than 90k miles on this honda. not ok and honda knew and knows they built a car with a major defect. *tt

About 5 weeks ago, the engine of my 1999 honda accord ex (4-cylinder automatic) began dying while i am driving. three times i have been pulling into heavy traffic when the engine died, and i am lucky not to have been injured or killed in an accident. there are no visible, audible or tactical signs that the engine is about to shut down, and no indicator lights. the local honda dealer charged me $100 to evaluate the situation to no avail. use of fuel cleaner was their recommendation, but that did nothing to solve the problem. frustrated, i consulted the internet and found 43 separate similar complaints on carcomplaints.com. complainants all say that they have spent hundreds of dollars on going from dealer to dealer for diagnosis and a variety of repairs, none of which seem to resolve the problem. i doubt seriously that american honda is as ignorant of this problem as they claim to be, but they offer no help. please log onto carcomplaints.com to see how widespread and dangerous this problem appears to be. i'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 honda accord. while decelerating to 10 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. immediately after the failure, the vehicle was able to restart. the contact is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. the manufacturer did not assist. the failure and current mileages were 11,950.

Since 2006 the car has been stalling (rpm's drop to zero and car turns off) started by stalling while on the freeway but would start right back up within seconds would happen once every 3 months. recently, the problem has accured everyday some time 3 times a day. i could be at a complete stop or on the freeway and the cars' rpm's just drop and all the lights battery light, oil light, check engine light, door and truck light turns on but the radio and a/c stay on. i have almost been rear ended on several occasions and have almost been run over by other motorist trying to push the car out of traffic. i contacted honda headquarters and they told me that there were no recalls on my car and told me it sounded like the ignition switch. so i immediately changed the ignition switch and the next day the car stalled again. i called honda they told me that the tumbler for the key had been recalled and was replaced back in 2003. i bought a new key as the old key was worn and the car did not stall for over 2 months but yesteday car stalled over 3 times. i have had a diagnositic done which said it is the catalytic converter which my mechanic says is totally unrealated to the stalling problem. but i plan to have a new one installed soon. i really need to get this stalling problem fixed immediately as this is problem could cause me or my son to get into an accident and be injuried or even killed. and based on the internet forums i am not the only one having this problem with my honda and honda headquarters doesn't seem like they plan on doing any thing to fix the problem. *tr

My 99 honda accord ex shuts off while driving, this started almost two years ago. the car provides zero notice. i recently attended a auto parts shop for testing and they were unable to assist. i was directed to my local honda dealership. i researched the matter online and determined my car was on recall for this problem. i briefly remember receiving a recall notification by mail several years ago but did nothing. i called breakaway honda in greenville sc and was denied recall based on my vin. please help me with this matter. *tr

My 1999 honda accord lx blew out an engine valve while on the highway driving 60 mph. honda service will not accept any responsibility for the failure of the engine. at the time the car had only 110k miles. apparently, it is due to a defective valve design. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 honda accord. while pulling into the driveway and before the contact could turn off the vehicle, it shut itself off. later, while attempting to make a right turn, the vehicle shut off completely. the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the service dealer and they stated that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the contact stated that he received a recall notice in 2002 for the electrical ignition switch, which could degrade and cause the vehicle to hesitate and/or crash without warning. the manufacturer stated that because the recall repairs were performed once, they would not take responsibility for the repairs a second time. the vin and nhtsa campaign id number were unknown. the failure and current mileages were less than 109,000.

1999 honda accord v-6 egr emission defect, egr ports clogged with carbon deposits, reference nhtsa #627312, tsb 99085, honda is unwilling to pay for repairs. *tr

Vehicle engine caught fire while pulling into a 7/11 parking lot. called fire department and fire was extinguished. damage sustained to engine compartment. insurance declared total loss. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 honda accord. the contact had his vehicle repaired according to nhtsa campaign id number 02v120000 (electrical system:ignition:switch) on september 27, 2002. while driving various speeds, the vehicle would sporadically stall without warning. the majority of the time, the vehicle could immediately be restarted after it stalled. the dealer stated that because his vehicle was previously repaired under the recall, they would not provide a free remedy. the manufacturer would not provide any assistance. the failure mileage was 141,000 and current mileage was 150,000. updated 4/29/08 *cn

Bought this 99 honda accord dx 4 door 5 speed back in 2006 from a honda dealership. in the end of 2007 the car shut off on the high way while i was driving!!! thank god i didn't get into an accident! it then happened again a month later! it then happened quite frequently till i could no longer let the key go without it shutting off! when the car shuts off everything stops, including power steering!!! very dangerous!!! we looked over the car and looked online and found my car had a recall on it. we called honda's 1800 number and they told us the car had already been recalled and fixed in 2002 so they didn't have to do anything for us!!! so why then a couple of years later would the same problem be happening!? i am scared that if i go and have it fixed it will just shut off on me again in four years, or less!? did they just replace the faulty part with another faulty part?! i have read some of the forums on line and they seem to indicate that it could be the wiring to the ignition switch and not the whole part. we have rigged the car by hanging objects off of the keys to get it to stay on... i know it's only a matter of time before it stops altogether! honda refuses to take responsibility for they're products. they should not be aloud to continue this! how can we allow them to put unsafe vehicles on the road putting peoples life's in danger!? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 honda accord. the contact stated that his vehicle randomly shuts off while driving at any speed. he took his vehicle to the dealer on july 5, 2007 and they could not find anything wrong. on july 7, 2007, within 15 minutes of retrieving his vehicle from the dealer, the vehicle failed twice. the contact stated that the vehicle drives normally and then stalls. he pulls the vehicle to the side of the road, turns it off for several minutes, and then restarts the vehicle. the vehicle operates normally for approximately five minutes and then fails again. the failure began six months ago and occurs intermittently. the purchase date was unknown. the current mileage is 197,000 and failure mileage was 190,000.

Tl*the contacts friend owns a 1999 honda accord. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle shut off. the vehicle was pulled to the side of the road and restarted. the failure has been occurring frequently. the dealer replaced the main fuel relay switch, but the problem still persists. the engine size was unknown. the current mileage is 87,500 and failure mileage was 87,475. updated 06/08/07 *tr

Four years ago, i replaced the catalytic converter, and i have to replace it again. because honda has a reputation of providing the highest quality, i think it is ridiculous that the converter keeps tearing up. this is not a cheap repair. *tr

Check engine light came on. had the dealer check for the code which came up as p1491, egr valve issue. there is documented recall/note for this major design defect part, but only for 8yr/80k miles. i called american honda and asked for "good faith"/if they would pay for the repair. am/honda refused my request. my 99 accord ex v6 has 130k miles. this is a known documented design flaw. emission parts should last the life of the car. had to shell out $300 for that repair. i have owned 7 other honda's plus this car. this is the first time i have had this type of issue. american honda needs to do better. i am seriously considering changing car brands, possibly switching to toyota. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle suddenly stopped without warning while driving at various speeds. there were no lights illuminated on the dash prior to each incident. the dealership was not contacted. the vehicle usually restarts after waiting less than one minute. updated 10/04/06. *jb

Defective egr valve on my 1999 honda accord. the car was brand new when i purchased it and it only has 96k miles. i am the only owner. it burns oil and no one can determine why. i just replaced 2 valves due to the oil and now my egr valve is needing to be replaced. after reviewing the complaints, there are numerous complaints on the egr valve for a 1999 honda accord. it should be recalled based on the number of complaints i have seen. *nm

The bolt holding the main crank shaft pulley came loose causing all exterior belts to come off as well as the interior timing belt, sheared the woodruff key, and warped pulley. the engine shut-off because timing was now off on engine and the pistons came up and bent some valves. now i am out $3,000 dollars in repairs. per mycarstats.com, there have been others with similar problems. this bolt/ design assembly came defective from manufacturer because there has never been any work related to this bolt and pulley. *nm

Broken engine mounts. *jb

Continuous engine check light pointing to failures in the emissions control system. monetary loss is becoming unacceptable. *jb

Large amount of engine oil found in anti-freeze resevoir tank. garage said it was a blown head gasket. car only has 56,000 miles on it. garage said they've never seen a head gasket blow with such low mileage. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the horn worked intermittently and was hard to press in certain spots. the dealership re-fitted the horn wires and determined the horn was operating to factory specifications. the repairs did not repair the problem. the accelerator would always stick in the morning. the door locks worked intermittently. the right front window would squeak when going up. the valve cover gasket was replaced. updated 05/16/06. *jb

When starting from cold in the morning, the vehicle coughs and does not accelerate when the accelerator is pressed. after some time the check engine light came up. vehicle runs smoothly after engine warms up. mileage reduced from 29 mpg in city to 25 mpg. the mechanic said the check engine light was for "lean fuel mixture". he reset the alarm and said nothing could be done. same problem has repeated several times. mechanic says that he has seen several vehicles with this problem and honda released a kit to solve it but i'll have to buy it. honda should recall all vehicles with this problem and install the kit. *jb

Dt: the contact stated the check engine light came on. he took the vehicle to a mechanic,. they put the vehicle on a machine that indicated the catalytic converter broke . the repairs were made to the vehicle under warranty. the indicator light came back on after the first repair. the manufacture was contacted, and stated the vehicle was no longer under warranty. no further repairs have been made.*ak

The oxygen sensor has been replaced on the 1999 honda accord. *ts the oxygen sensor has been replaced every two years since 2001. the tires have been replaced twice since the car was purchased new in 1999. the tires have dry rot and cracked on the sidewall. the tire have been rotated frequently and the tread is very good but the tires need to be replaced before they reach their mileage warranty (michelin tires). *nm

On sunday, august 7, 2005, my check engine light came on. i referred to the owner's manual and followed the instructions as written. that did not resolve the problem so i took my car to a local honda repair shop for a diagnostic test. they indicated that the catalytic converter failed and they quoted me $1100 to complete the repairs. i do not have this kind of money laying around. i also noticed that there are 8 complaints on this website regarding this same issue with the catalytic converter. how many complaints does it take before a recall is issued? not only will i have to continue driving with this problem because i can't afford to fix it, but i will be polluting the environment at the same time. i guess i need to file a complaint with the epa as well. please do something to address this problem as soon as possible. *nm

I took my 1999 honda accord to my local honda dealer for a check engine light at 78,000 miles was told there was no code in the computer and my gas cap was the culprit. they said they reset computer and all was good well if you reset the computer this means you cleared any codes witch oh by the way there were not any codes right... low and behold at just after 84000 miles the light comes back on ,and this time there is a code cat and o2 sensor no good 1,100.00 dollars later im sent on my way. now at 126,000 the infamous p1457 code rears its ugly head and read that honda may have extended the emissions warranty to 14 years/130,000 miles. if this is true why was i charged for cat and o2 sensor back at 84,000 miles???lets just say im not a very happy honda customer right now. *tr

Dt: the bolt backed out of the pulley in the engine, resulting in ruined pulley/ bent the crank shaft/loss of power steering/ defective alternator, and air conditioning (a/c) failure. dealership was surpride. consumer, had to pay out of pocket for the new pulley.*ak

Dt: contact states: the crank pulley separated from the crank. she has a 1999 honda accord. the dealer fixed it, but they didn't seem to think it was serious . contact felt it was serious. crank pulley broke while consumer was pulling into garage. *ak

Large amounts of engine oil were observed in the coolant reservoir. at the same time decrease of the engine oil was noted on the oil indicator stick. slight decrease in acceleration was also seen. the car has been maintained very well.*ak
