We have classified the 1266 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about STEERING into the following categories.
The power steering sensor has alerted us and we have had the whole power steering rack replaced (2100.00$). a couple days later the alert came on again and the sensor had come loose and it had to be reinforced. now, not a week later the light the on again and we are a whole state away and hours from home. the recall and problems with this power steering on this vehicle, model, and year, had left us stranded and in danger too many times! the wheel cannot be turned and this happens while driving on any type of street, any speed, or just starting up.
On september 28th, 2018 at approximately 06:00 a.m. as i was driving to work the power steering, without warning, failed and a "service power steering now" display read in on the dashboard. there was no faulty performance of the power steering prior to this and no indication it was in need of repair. the fault occurred suddenly and without warning, almost causing me to hit another car as i was making a right turn from a small rural highway onto a side street in a residential neighborhood. it has been this way since that time. this is a known issue from the 2010 model fusion that ford needs to address.
67 year old female drove to doctors office, parked and went inside. no problems at all. when she tried to leave the power steering notification came on and she could not turn the steering wheel. she needed assistance getting the car home. dealership. was contacted and without seeing the vehicle quoted a price of repair to be $1800+. the problem appears to be the same as the one forcing the recall of the 2011 model fusion. it was written that a reset code in the electronic control unit box could solve the problem. if ford knows the problem is dangerious a recall of the 2010 fusion should have been done two years ago. also have a vin # problem. i entered the number as written on registration and was told it was not valid. went to car found the exact same vin and again it said it was not valid. you can run my license plate and it comes back on the right vehicle. again, car was fine when parked, but problem occurred when started and attempting to back up. if it went out at normal speed on the county road to my home she could well have gone over an embankment.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel failed to move. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided reference number: cas-15887066. the failure mileage was 105,000. the vin was not available.
When i started my ford fusion 2010 in my garage a warning appeared power steering assist fault. i could not steer the car at all. turned the car off and restarted same message and not able to steer at all. next start worked. drove the car about a mile. car rested. restarted the car in parking lot and same message and no steering. tried a couple of times eventually worked. i consider the car completely unsafe and unreliable at this point in time. i was very surprised when i read on line that the ford fusion 2011 has been recalled for this reason and the 2010 has not even though there were more incidents reported in the 2010.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. after the contact started the ignition, the service power steering and service advancetrac indicators illuminated. the contact stated that the power steering also seized. the vehicle had not yet been taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Tamara recall power steering just went off in the middle of me driving on the highway . no warnings .
The power steering went out on our 2010 ford fusion. you could not move the steering wheel. fortunately, it happened when my daughter was not moving as it would have caused a crash with it suddenly going out. vehicle was parked in our driveway. it was a power steering fault failure. this was a $1800.00 repair and this is definitely a safety issue that appears to affect a very large amount of 2010-2012 ford fusion owners. ford is covering the repair under a recall for all 2011-2012 fusion owners but not 2010 models even though it's the same vehicle!
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while starting the vehicle, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the power steering fault indicator illuminated. the contact called the local dealer (shottenkirk superstore, 309 s gear ave, west burlington, ia 52655, (319) 758-5900) and was informed to call the local dealer in texas. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 136,000. *dt *js
The vehicle will, without warning, lose power steering capability and this has almost caused an accident. i'm aware the 2011 fusion had the same issue but was provided a recall, but the 2010 was not, this needs to be extended to cover 2010's. my vehicle only has 130k miles on it and this should not be failing in a way that could cause a fatality.
On september 18, 2018 i drove to a rutter's and when i started to drive home the power steering went out. i turned my car off and then on and a warning light referring to the steering came on. i called apple ford dealership in york, pa and brought my car in the next morning. they confirmed that the steering rack had to be replaced. the repair cost was $2,200, which i ended up paying. after researching this issue i discovered that the same issue was recalled on the 2011 fusion but not the 2010. also i've been waiting for the part for the takata recall. since i needed a rental while my car was being fixed they put me in a long term rental since the airbag part hasn't come in yet. i'm hoping they will recall the steering rack for the 2010 fusion as well.
About a week ago, i got the stability system code a few times when i would start the car. i would turn the car off, then back on and it would reset and be normally drivable. after the second or third time, i noticed that there wasn't power steering when i first turned on the car, and if i tried to turn the wheels, the stability control light would come on. then the power steering assist light started coming on first and if i didn't do anything except turn off and restart the car the code would clear and i could drive. yesterday (15 sep 2018) the power steering system failed and won't come back on. we drove it, without power steering, to the dealership and they said it was not currently covered by the recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. when the vehicle was started, the power steering assist failure indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. when the contact restarted the engine, the power steering assist returned to normal. the contact stated that the failure eventually became permanent and the steering wheel had to be turned with force to complete turns. the contact activated the hazard lights while driving to prevent a crash. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 148,000. *tt *jb
While parked and starting my car, a message that there is a "power assist steering fault" appears. this appears on every start and does not go away. steering is now far to stiff to drive safely. it has not been repaired at this moment, but research into the issue appears widespread with ford's epas system and come with prohibitive repair costs versus cars with the older system. that ford already recalled several model years proves they know of the issue, but have yet to include 2010 models.
On september 15, 2018 i started my vehicle and an alarm came on stating "power steering assist sensor" something like that appeared. my vehicle would not allow me to move the steering wheel. i turned off the vehicle waited 5 min. turned it back on the alarm went off and i could move the wheel to the left and right. i went to the dealership to check for recall and nothing showed up. now, i am afraid this may happen again while parked or as i am driving. therefore, i am seriously thinking of buying another vehicle. i am not financially able to purchase another vehicle. this is very unsettling every time i turn on the vehicle or as i am driving i am not sure what to expect. i don't feel safe.
On a street road while driving the steering wheel locked. error message: steering assist default came on. no accident but the car has been sown since friday as i am afraid to drive with the steering wheel locked. i would like a resolution. making payments on the car.
Takata recall. i had them place an order for the air bag, and they said they would call when it arrives. still no call. i mentioned the rental car option, and they shrugged it off. also, the upper and lower control arms have been replaced only 2 years ago, and they are already going out again which can cause loss of control. they should not be going out so soon.
Takata recall. stationary vehicle. power steering locked. turned off and came back few hours later, turned on and it worked perfectly. again in stationary vehicle, started engine and power steering locked. turned off and came back few hours later , turned on engines and it worked perfectly. i decided that this was a major safety issue and drove to ford dealer. message on screen was 'power steering assist fault' both times. they gave me an estimate for $2600 + to replace lower control arms and rack and pinion assembly with no mention of any repair or replacement of power steering assembly. and ford has a recall out for 2011 and 2012 fusions with the exact same power steering assembly, having the exact same problems.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving approximately 30 mph, the steering lost power without warning. the vehicle was taken to ford of hoopeston (217-283-7729, located at 623 s dixie hwy, hoopeston, il 60942) where the technician replaced the steering gear assembly and reprogrammed the steering gear control module. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 115,599. *tt*jb
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that there was a loss of electric power steering ability and the steering wheel was difficult to turn in either direction while driving at a low rate of speed. the dealer (ron carter ford, 3005 fm 528 rd, alvin, tx 77511, (281) 331-8111) was notified of the failure. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v384000 (air bags). the manufacturer also included the vehicle in the electronic throttle body extended coverage field service action number: 13n03. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was not available. vin tool confirms parts not available.
Power steering assist fault. passenger bag fault. and service advancetrack. i went to start my car later in the afternoon and the car will not steer. a warning appeared the day before and i shut the vehicle off and it was fine but now won't do so.
My son's power steering failed while he was driving and went out completely. luckily he had just exited the highway. service power steering comes up on the screen. it's a 2010 ford fusion and i heard recalls only for 2011 and 2012 ford fusions but that doesn't make sense because it's the exact same issue with the 2010 ford fusion. my son could have gotten hurt badly.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the brakes failed to function properly when applied. the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard several times, which caused the contact to have to apply force and pump the brake pedal each time the failure occurred. in addition, the electric power steering failed and caused the steering wheel to become extremely tight when attempting to turn in either direction. the vehicle was also serviced for a manufacturer extended warranty campaign regarding the throttle body; however, the contact noticed that the vehicle was slow to accelerate while the other two failures progressed. the dealer (worthington ford, 2950 n bellflower blvd, long beach, ca 90815, (562) 420-3333) was unable to provide a permanent remedy yet for the three failures that were experienced. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa action numbers: ea17004 (steering) and pe13003 (engine). the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the contact was waiting for a response from the manufacturer to determine if they could provide a permanent repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin and failure mileage were not available.
After starting my 2010 ford fusion the steering locked up and would not turn either way. a warning message popped up " power steering assist fault." i called a local ford dealer who told me they didn't have time to check it call back next week. also charge over $100 to check it. there is a recall on 2011 and above for the same thing. i restarted the car and everything was ok for now. this is very dangerous to the public. fix it ford.
Got the 'power steer system fault' message for the first time a couple days ago, turned my car off then on and the message went away. started my car yesterday and they message returned. turned my car off then on again several times to no avail. this is my only car so i am forced to risk my whole life to get around. i don't understand what the hold up is on this recall. ford knows their ids is flawed and have recalled 2011 and 2012 fusions for the same problem. they need to fix their mistake before i get ran over or run someone else over. not to mention i have a manual transmission. help me lord. idk what will break first, my wrists or the steering column.
Service system track warning appeared. grinding sound from area steering control. brought in for service found that this was recalled in 2011 but not 2010 due to known failures.
Left for work and dash said power steering assist fault. shortly after dash also stated service advancetrac. cannot reset and can barely turn wheel. happened several times in past but was able to reset by turning off and starting car. now cannot reset. part is very expensive and dangerous without it.
Takata recall, on 8-20-18, i could not turn the wheel to my card, a display came up on the dash and it said power steering assault fail. i could not turn the wheel, i turned car and left it where it was. i called ford they said to bring it in to be evaluated. they charged me $140.00 to evaluate and i told them there have been more compalints, they said they are not aware of any recalls on the power steering. they told me it is failing and i would have to pay $2300.00 to get it fixed, this is not normal they said. i have a 19 year honda and the power steering has not failed or has any problems. i do not believe i should have to pay to fix something like this and to be told they are not aware when there is reports and documented reports of powers steering assault failing . how do i have ford fix this this is a hazard to drive the car. they have not given me a report due to the car is at ford till the air bag is fixed.. i still do not feel safe driving the car knowing the power steering is failing. i owe more than the car is worth. how do i get help with this issue
Service power steering now error messages occurred an i lost all steering while traveling down the road at 55 mph without warning. ford says i need the electronic power steering components at 1600 for parts an hundreds more for labor. car has 103k miles.
Power steering assist fault issue: i start the car in the parking lot and the error on the panel states, power steering assist fault. the wheel is pretty much locked. i shut the car off, wait a few minutes and start the car again. the error is gone and the wheel is movable. this has happened twice about 3 months apart. the vehicle has 86,000 miles. i'm concerned that this will happen while driving as it has happened to other owners of 2010 fusions. i noticed there is a recall from 2011 -2015 for this exact issue. will there be one for the 2010 models?
Loss power steering in my 2010 ford fusion on my way to work. assit fault came on. this is freaking ridiculous that ford is not stepping up and taking care this. how can they be so careless. other issues include front seat recliner driver side. electrical issues. engine issues. disappointed my first car i played off. nothing to show for it.
My car computer is giving me warning power steering fault which is been recalled for 2011 to 2015 models. these refuse to fix my model because it is a 2010 this is a factory defect as well
Vehicle steering wheel is locked and did not give notice. warning message is stating service power steering.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while pulling into the driveway, the electrical power steering warning indicator illuminated and the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was taken to marler ford company (22077 us-167, dry prong, la 71423, (318) 641-1463) who stated that the repairs would be charged to the contact. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 120,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated while driving at 15 mph, the steering wheel seized and the power steering assist fault warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle struck a curb and damaged the front driver's side door. the air bag did not deploy. the vehicle was taken to koch 33 ford (3810 hecktown rd, easton, pa 18045, 610-810-1187) but it had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
Electric power steering assist is throwing faults, making the car undriveable. recalls have been issued for other ford models with this epsa system. last car checkup returned no fault messages (car was serviced for new tires and point inspection last week of june 2018). the fault usually occurs on initial startup. per the user manual, upon a fault occurring you shut off the car and wait 10 seconds for the power system to reset, then re start the car. usually the fault will go away but now it is more persistent. the fault will not go away by driving it off. this is an expensive roughly $1500 repair that should not be happening. most reports point to a faulty sensor. fault message automatically shuts off the epsa regardless of if it is mechanically sound or not, which is very dangerous if driving on the highway or busy downtown streets. risk of accident is dramatically increased with this fault.
'power steering assist fault' power steering no longer working, having to manually steer car. mechanic says it will be $2000 to fix since part costs $1400. power steering rack needs to be replaced, the motor is not turning on at all.
I just bought a 2010 ford fusion for my 17 yo son, his 1st car what a great gift & surprise, right? specially the surprise part, we my 3 boys and i went to p/u the car at my place of work where i kept it so yay surprise, my oldest getting his 1st car see the boys cheering, laughing having a good, so my oldest & youngest (11 yo) got into the car & we brought it to a tire shop the only thing the car needed was new tires, about an hour later we went back to the shop to pick up the fusion looking good so my youngest kiddo decided to stay with his big brother so happy for him, the new car deal etc,etc he just wanted to be with his big buddy as he call him so on our way home about 10 blocks away from the shop & 5 blocks away from home we are traveling at a 30 mph speed on a city street i noticed that his driving was kind of funny and he was getting close to do a right turn at a busy with heavy traffic intersection, i thought he was fooling around some how he managed to pull over at safe place when i got out of my truck and approached him i was about to scream at him, before i said anything he said to me " that was creepy, dad why is the steering wheel so hard? is it normal, because it has new tires? so brought it back to the shop & the said that it was just fine, they inspected the car for any power steering fluid/anything, we discovered that this car has an epas!! so yeah big surprise uh!! i feel so miserable,i put 2 of my boys life's in danger. thank god yes thank god, my son was able to stop the car safely without panicking even though his little brother was on board, now ford want $2200 to fix the car, so ford will recall a floor mat but not an electric power steering?
Wife went to the store and when she got back in the car to drive home the steering went out, she is recovering from a broken wrist and could not turn the wheel, i had to get a ride to drive the car home, she is not able to drive the car now
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the steering wheel seized with the power steering assist fault warning light illuminated. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle was unintentionally steering left. the ken wilson ford 769 champion dr, canton, nc 28716 (877) 740-8559 was contacted and informed the contact to bring the vehicle to be diagnosed. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic test or repairs. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the entire steering wheel assembly was replaced but the failure reoccurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 250,000.
Car has power steering assist fault and is manual steering now. driver is almost 80 and can not drive now due to this. too hard to turn wheel. either he drives or a woman with a child drives it. either way it is dangerous because it is too hard to steer. fault has come up numerous times but would go away by restarting the car but will not go away this time. multiple years of this model have been recalled due to this issue but this year of the same car with the same power steering assist fault has not been recalled. dealer wants to charge 1800.00 to repair when this year should have been recalled too since it is the same issue that caused a recall for other years of the same car. the power steering assist fault has always come up when driving the vehicle which is dangerous
I have a ford fusion 2010 .the problem with it is the power steering assist fault.really dangerous to drive specially in freeways because you cannot maneuver the vehicle and can cause accident or death.so expensive to shoulder the expenses specially it's not a regular mechanical problem.please include into your recall the year model of ford fusion 2010.because i found out the recall was for ford fusion 2012 and up.
While driving to work, the power steering went out in the car at 55 mph as i entered a turn making it nearly impossible to control. fortunately, i was able to bring the car safely to a stop on the side of the road. very unsafe! this model year should be added to the existing 2011 through 2012 recall.
While driving my 2010 fusion on vacation last week, my epas suddenly stopped working and the car immediately became extremely difficult to steer. at the time this happened, a warning message displayed that said, 'service advancetrac, service power steering' and a warning light came on. there were no indications of an issue prior to this. as far as i can tell, this has been a problem on many fusions and has resulted in a recall of fusions for other model years but not 2010 (so far??). it's frustrating that this appears to be a known issue for this vehicle, including 2010's, but the model year is not included in the recall. the local ford dealership just told me the system needs to be replaced (this includes the steering column), and they estimated the cost to be $2200.
The power steering quit, which made steering the vehicle by my 21 y/o daughter nearly impossible. fortunately, it quit just as she entered a parking place a service power steering now, message appeared at the moment it failed.
Power steering assist fault. lost all power steering after starting the car. the fault indicator came across the dash. 2011-2012 were recalled but not the 2010 according to internet lots and lots of people complaining of same issue
Power steering went out during driving making it unable to turn wheel 2010 should been added to the recall
Power steering assist light randomly comes on and i don't have power steering when it does this. sometimes, restarting the car will make it go away. now, it has failed completely and won't function properly. this happened when stationary and when driving.
Power steering assist randomly will not work when starting car. makes it so the car is very hard turn. have to turn the car off and back on again to reset system. has been happening more often recently and am afraid it will happen while driving.
Vehicle lost the ability to power steer when vehicle was turned on making it difficult to drive. warning sign said power steering assist fault. the issue had occurred several times but i just turn it off and turn it back on and the issue would come off but this last time it didnt.
