Recently reported STEERING problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

At the beginning of march i was driving down the highway and my power steering in the middle of my drive home, tried to lock up on me. i was able to get to my work and after a couple of hours of work it cranked up and worked fine. at the time i knew i was going to have some repairs done on my car and thought they would solve the problem. however less than two weeks after replacing both of the wheel bearings in the front of the car and a hub i started having a weird noise and a jerking of the wheel happening. personally i was concerned and tried to get my mechanic to look at it as soon as he could but that was not possible he needed a week which worked for me because i was going out of town for work and thought it would be okay, there was no lights indicating a problem. i was able to drive the three hours to where i was going to work and unloaded my vehicle at the place i was going to stay and one hour later cranked up to drive to work. it was like lifting weights i could barely turn the steering wheel. fortunately it made it to a parking lot near work and then things went down hill from there. after trying to check and see with the ford company what they could do i was told i needed my vin number so i called back with the vin number and was told the person i needed to talk to had gone home with in the half hour 3pm. well i work and after that thinking it will do the same thing it has previously done i proceed to crank up my car and what do you know it will only turn in a circle it wouldn't even unlock to let me back up straight no matter what gear it was in.

The power steering failed, while i was driving. mileage 109,000.

I was driving down a city road during rush hour traffic and with no warning my steering wheel locked up. i could not even budget it an inch. i had to stop the car in mid traffic lucky me and my son where not hit. this could have killed me and my 4 year old. even the adult men that helped could not move the wheel. found out its the powering steering issue that ford is well aware of. they recalled 2011 and up but not the 2010? now ford is telling me i can pay $170 to reset it or $1200 to fix it. first off the reset is no guarantee it wont happen again., so you want me to pay $1200 which i don,t have or reset a faulty switch that could relapse again possibly killing me?

While driving this car the electric power steering just quit. making steeringbthis car very difficult in heavy rush hour traffic in atlanta, ga. also giving 'electric power steering fault' that would not clear. i had to pay ford $1515 to replace the entire rack and pinion steering system just to use the car again. why was the model year not part to first recall!!!! ridiculous to have missed this allowed such an error to continue!!! i want to see this recalled immediately!!! it is very dangerous!!!

Driving and my wheel would not steer, manage to get off road, very scary incident, needs to be a recall on 2010 ford fusion.the car was in motion,,needs to be recalled before someone dies!

While driving my fusion on roadway or highway the steering wheel locks up and i can't turn it. after happening twice i had the steering rack and pinion replaced which is what they said the problem was but it has happen again. it caused me 1200.00 to get this done and problem is still happen. very upset and scare to drive my fusion.

While driving at 30-40mph, i was decelerating and crossing over a merging lane approaching a right turn near my home. before i could complete my maneuver, a loud audible alarm sounded and immediately all power steering was lost and my wheels locked and turned sharply to the right. i was sent into a 180 degree spin due to the sudden loss of power and locking of my wheels. my vehicle was thrown into now oncoming traffic coming from the merging lane. in a panic, i tried to steer my vehicle and maneuver out of the road, but even with the full force of my upper body, i was only able to very slowly turn the wheel. my passenger, from the passenger seat, attempted to assist my efforts to steer and it took the both of us to maneuver the steering wheel to an angle that would allow us to get the car out of the road. i've driven vehicles without power steering before, and i can clearly attest that it was more than just a loss of power steering that was hampering my ability to steer. a quick google search revealed that that this vehicle has electrical power steering. i'm positive that my wheels were essentially locked because i was overcoming not only a power-steering loss, but also the extreme resistance of the failed power steering motor. it goes without saying that this is a serious safety issue that absolutely has the potential to kill somebody. i see that ford recalled the 2011 fusion and similar vehicles equipped with this power steering unit because of the same failure. i also see that 2010 ford fusion owners have reported failures of the power steering unit with such frequency (similar to that of already recalled vehicles) that nhtsa has opened a recall investigation that as of last november has been ongoing for approximately two years. what is the status of this recall investigation? this incident occurred on sunrise blvd. near howard street in fair oaks, ca on 3/17/18.

Upon starting the vehicle i get a warning tone and a message is displayed on the dash info window "power steering assist fault" i shut off the car and restarted it and the fault cleared. i'm really nervous about this happening while i'm driving. i heard that the 2011 and 2012 fusions were recalled because of this issue but not the 2010. i hope ford steps up and does the right thing and recalls the 2010 fusion,

There have been recalls for ford fusion electronic power steering units failing for no reason. nhsta is already aware of this and has issued a recall for ford fusion years 2011-2012 and possibly newer. my car is a 2010 ford fusion built in june 2010 with the same issues as the other fusions with power steering recalls. i believe that 2010 mid-year built models should be considered part of the recall. i turned on my car the other day and when i turned on the car i had no power steering and the trip computer listed the following errors: "service power steering now" and "service advanced trac". nhtsa issued recalls for the this reason in the 20111 model. my fusion is mid year built (june 2010) and is experiencing similar issues. please advise.

Driving on a two lane highway around 30 mph when all of a sudden electronic power steering locked up solid. car veered to right; went off the roadway and scraped a fence post on the right rear quarter panel .it is a good thing i wasn't going any faster.i will not drive this vehicle until it is repaired ford will not fix it there estimate is 1800 dollars.i am retired and cannot afford to fix this vehicle.they told me the 2010 ford fusions are not on recall but 2011 and up are how can this be when they all have the same electronic parts i was a mechanic for over 40 years and i know what i am talking about. could you please look in to this matter .a lot of 2010 ford fusion owners need your help.i know what is causing this problem but, it would take me a lot of time to write a 30 page essay on this subject it is another tatic by our car manufacture not caring about our lives. for instance i am waiting for years for my air bag to be replaced

Warning light: electronic power steering assist failure steering became much harder ford has already issued recalls for this issue for newer model year fusions internet research shows to be a failure widespread problem. reversing slowly so no damage or injuries. assuming ford is just waiting on a fatality for it to be economical to recall the 2010's seems like a major issue and their customer service did not seemed concerned at all.

I was driving down the road at 55 mph and all of a sudden lose power steering. i have checked all fuses, wires, and had hooked to a computer and still can not find out what is going on.

Driving on the highway with 3 occupants, and the steering wheel tightened. once on the city street a light on the dash flashed then all power steering was gone.

2 times in the last 2 months the dashboard displays a warning "power steering assist fault". cost is very expensive, 2010 ford fusions should have been included in the recall for this issue. the car was just being started when this warning came on.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving at low speeds, the steering wheel became inoperable. also, the steering wheel warning indicator illuminated and the power steering alarm sounded, which caused the steering wheel to become difficult to turn. the vehicle was taken to courtesy ford (1830 grand river avenue, okemos, michigan 48864, phone (888) 836-5315) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear electronic system failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer stated that the 2010 ford fusion was not included in the manufacturer warranted repair for the steering wheel failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 84,543. *tt *tr

I was terrified when my power steering went out without warning while making a right turn with oncoming traffic comin in the opposite direction. i had to pull the steering wheel so hard to refrain from going into the oncoming traffics lane that i strained my shoulder, causing pain and discomfort. when i spoke with the ford dealership they said the repair of my issue would cost thousands of dollars. this issue is not caused from user error it is from poor design and engineering from ford. this product malfunction could have caused a serious accident. please take time to look into this faulty product because i believe that i should not have to be burdened with a bill of this magnitude. this situation could have been avoided if ford produced a product that was safer.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. while driving unknown speeds, the steering wheel failed to move and became inoperable. also, the power steering indicator illuminated. the contact called the local dealer (five star ford, 6618 ne loop 820 north, richland, tx 78180) and was informed to schedule a service appointment. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 15,000.

Vehicle makes poppong sounds when car turns to side

While driving down the interstate my car gave me an alarm saying i needed to have my power steering serviced now. i lost power steering. took it in to dealer who ran diagnostics. they said it took them awhile to get anything to register and did say it was a steering rack but then it disappeared and the power steering worked again. they told me it could happen again. yesterday when driving on interstate again, same exact thing happened, alarms went off and my power steering is out again. i see issues related to the power steering and articles say the 2010 ford fusion is one of the, yet it wasn't recalled! i'll be calling the ford dealer again, but i won't pay what they tell me to fix replace this.

My 2010 ford fusion lost all electronic power steering while driving 45 on the highway with my 12 yr old and 1 month old in the vehicle. while driving my steering seized up and i had to use all extra force to turn off the highway. thank god traffic was easy and i was able to get off the road. the dash board lights came on saying tire pressure low, service power steering and advanced trac warning. many complaints have been made about the 2010 ford fusion. however a recall has only been issued for the 2011-2012 model for the same exact issue that many people are having with the 2010 as well. this is a serious matter. it can be very dangerous not only to us as the drivers but everyone on the road. very unsafe! hopefully a recall is given for the 2010 models as well, being that it is the same exact issue for a year later and above.

While driving my vehicle the service advancetrac warning light came on. my vehicle would not accelerate appropriately and then would not be in gear. i have taken it to the dealer and they replaced sensors etc. they have identified that the steering rack and pinion will need to be replaced. when i researched this i found that this is a common issue for this vehicle and that a recall had in fact been instituted for 2011 and newer models. this is a problem in vehicles from 2010 as well. there is no reason owners of 2010 models should have to pay the expense to fix this dangerous vehicle failure when new model owners do not. the part itself (for aftermarket) costs $1000.

While driving my power steering assist failure light came on and i lost my power steering

While driving 40 mph on a two lane highway vehicle service advance trac light warning came on as well as every light on the dashboard (xmas tree affect). the warning chime sounded every few seconds and the gauges went up and down randomly. drove 2 miles home with this continuing. turned off engine and restarted to have the same thing happen again. researched problem online and saw this was a common problem with fusions steering gear/harness and power steering failing.(ntsa campaign number: 15v340000) the recall for this exact problem does not apply to 2010s but to 2011 and after. the car was repaired at the dealership for $2339.
