Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while waiting to make a left turn with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle lunged forward spontaneously. the contact had to release and reapply the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 151,215.
The car is lunging forward at low speed while braking, this seems to be the same issue addressed in a recall that had been completed in december of 2016.
My 2005 ford freestyle speedometer fluctuates on its on causing the car to jump forward and take off slow with very little power it does it when sitting in park with the car turned on and while driving
On several occasions, my 05 freestyle lunges forward, transmission is engaged in the drive position and when in reverse, it also lunges. often when stopped at a light the car will not accelerate. it will stumble all over itself and dies. i've almost been hit on a couple occasions because i couldn't get across an intersection or out of the way. on several occasions while driving, it loses power and will not accelerate. had a a mechanic look at it. he said the throttle body was gummed up and he cleaned it. it ran good for a couple days and it's back to doing the same thing. the car only has 72310 miles on it. this problem has been going on for a couple years and has gotten significantly worse.
At low speed or stopped while in drive the car lunges forwards. i was at a drive through and it lunged forward almost hitting a pedestrian. also while driving in a lower speed zone 20-35 (school zones and neighborhood streets) the rpm's start pulsing causing the car to lunge every time.
When not pressing the accelerator pedal and turning the wheel, the car speed up without the drivers intention.
Vehicle keeps jumping. throttle body
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while driving various speeds, the vehicle lost acceleration. the contact had to pull the vehicle over, place the gear in neutral, and restart the vehicle. the wrench warning indicator illuminated when the vehicle was restarted. the contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. an independent mechanic repaired the throttle body, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was notified. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 188,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while stopped at a light or when pressure was applied to the brake pedal, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. the contact was concerned that the vehicle could accelerate forward and cause a crash. a check engine warning indicator illuminated when the failure occurred. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was 200,000.
While driving on a city street going 25 and while driving on the freeway going 55, the lights in cluster of guages went out. the wrench icon lights up and all power goes out to the guages. all needles drop. checked the fuzes. nothing blown. when this happens the a.c. also stops blowing cold air.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration after shifting into gear. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the voluntary recall had expired. the failure mileage was 148,508. updated 08/09/17*lj *cn
Car will stall out while idling, accelerating or decelerating (apparently fail safe mode). may or may not start again after shutting off and restarting. alternatively, engine will roar when applying gas pedal, with no acceleration; or will jolt/shudder while moving from second to third gear. new fuel pump already installed. all electrical connectors already gone over at dealer. twice new inertia shutoff valves installed. ($800) if this is related to the throttle body, i want to be included in the class action.
While veichle is stationary, the engine revs between 500-1000 rpm. transmission seemed to have stopped shifting and made the rpm go all over the place. while turning at a slow speed it seemed to make the issue worse. was told it needs a new transmission.
My car just stops i was told it was the throdel body but fixing it ws only trmparey i have 6 kids in my car at all times it is very scarey i never know when it will happen
While driving car at night lights on dashboard and instrument panel went out, abs light came on, headlights went out but backup lights came on while car was in drive. turn signals did not work and radio went out. car eventually lost all power.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle continued accelerating without the accelerator pedal being depressed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body assembly was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 150,000.
My ford freestyle has begun to surge in acceleration when after i am stopped with my foot on the brake, and then i let it off first to go, it surges ahead or backward, depending on forward or reverse with no pressure at all on the accelerator. repeat, i do not put my foot on the accelerator, and it suddenly surges forward or backward with no warning, though i can hear the engine and as well as feel it once it surges. this is intermittent, and seems to occur when the ac is on. the mileage is 123,000, and it has happened about 5 times now, but it is intermittent. we were once in many situations: stopped idling at a light when it was time to go, stopped in a drive thru lane when it was time to go, stopped in a parking lot briefly waiting for pedestrians, so basically stopped for at least a few moments---and once while reversing from a parking space. this is a major safety issue. please reply asap to my email: [xxx]. i will be out of the country and will not be reachable by phone and all messages left on my cell phone will be long since deleted automatically before i would return to get them. please let me know if there has been anything found on this, since i see a large number of other people on this site have been having problems for a lot of years. this last happened when we last drove the vehicle on september 4th 2016. we have not as yet tried to have this fixed. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Car is lunging forward and backwards
If we change gears with the a/c on the car lunges when we're trying to come to a stop. it lunges as we're parking or pulling up to a stop sign or stop light. after stopping it will continue to lunge without warning if it is in drive...it will even lunge as we try to shift to park. we are afraid we will hit someone walking in a cross walk or hit the car in front of us while parking. during lunging you can hear the engine rev louder. lunges while stopping and while being stopped. this has been happening for several years. i've read other posts with people saying the same thing happening. here is one example. http://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5488
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. when the vehicle was placed in reverse or drive, it would surge forward or backwards. on several occasions, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 64,241.
When vehicle is stationary on the brake it will try to accelerate on its own while not even on the gas pedal in reverse and drive.
When driving down a 4 lane high way the car lost gas pedal check transmission light came on. this could have been fatal. with other vehicle speeds up to 65 mph behind my car... have had several garages look at it and still cant figure out the problem. now a tow bill labor and other compounding exspences.
My vehicle enters engine failsafe mode in the middle of driving, experiences idle issues and the throttle body is responsible. i don't understand why there is not a recall present - when researching the issue you find many consumers with the same problem. i took my vehicle in to the dealership and they confirmed that it was the throttle body but that i would have to pay for repairs. my children have been put in serious danger due to the sudden engine shut off with no warning at various speeds including interstate driving. the engine failsafe happens while driving in town, while on the interstate, while accelerating, there is no warning or specific pattern.
Was traveling on a highway. when i set the cruise control i had to push the button 15x for it to engage. after it was set the increase and decrease buttons wouldn't work. when i tried to cancel out cruise control the button did not work. only way to stop the cruise control was to tap the brakes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while driving 60 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 81,000.
1. driving car at 45mph..came to red light. when pushing a celerator to floor , car suddenly does not respond to pressure on gas pedal. will not pick up speed. notice check e gine on display panel and wrench symbol came on and words "engine in failsafe mode" display. 2. when standing still, engine yrunning... foot on brake . engine idling. ..car begins to lunge forward, engine revs up when lunging. 3. during 90 degree weather, driving at 55 mph, turned on ac. car immediately lost power and failsafe mode light came on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while driving 10 mph, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration reaching speeds up to 50 mph. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 10,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that when the accelerator pedal was applied, the vehicle did not pick up speed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for various repairs and they were not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
While accelerating up a hill ,felt a surge then deceleration to 25-30 mph. this has happened a number of times.mechanic research codes and said it was the throttle body. pe11018
I purchased the 2005 ford freestyle used. issues: (1) shortly after purchasing the transmission light came on, then i took it to a transmission shop, who replaced the fluid, which seemed to fix the problem. (2) random surges of power, which almost resulted in a few accidents and was severely frightening (corrected before a recall) (3) this past winter problems with shutting the front doors, then with out warning ( with two children in the back sets ) the back passenger door few open when i turned the corner. the children screamed, i was thankful that a child was not severally injured and then, i had call someone to pick us up. i called ford and was told i was the only complaint! later at a children's recreation, i parked next to a woman with children driving the same model. i asked her if she experienced door issues, she stated both doors flew open with the children in the back seats, and stated her husband lubed the doors down. (4) now the transmission will randomly decide not to move, but if i turn the free style on and off it might go into gear. no transmission light on indicated an issue. my opinion is the 2005 ford freestyle was created to market toward families, the design and marketing worked, but as a result several families are now in danger. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the awd warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the awd system failed. no further information was available. the contact also stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly loose power and would not accelerate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 109,000. the vin was not available.
Traveling on hwy at approx 60 mph, wrench light came on, "failsafe engine mode" message appeared and car powered down. pulled over, turned car off, waited 1 min, restarted car. message was cleared and car drove as normal. about 20 miles later, same problem, except check engine light and message appeared. pulled over, turned off car, restarted. check engine light and message remained. very low power upon acceleration. problem continued intermittently. received engine code p2111, p2112 relating to throttle body problem. etb had been cleaned 11/13 by dealer per technical service bulletin issued by ford. no problems until 12/14. service performed to reprogram etb, no cleaning was needed. problem recurred 12/23/14. check engine light is on and no power upon acceleration persists. codes indicate etb needs to be replaced. *tr
Own a 2005 ford freestyle, v6, 3.0, all wheel drive, limited edition. i started hearing loud grinding and knocking noises from the cvt transmission. the vehicle will start, and the rpms will increase and decrease uncontrollably. this is the reason the cvt transmission in these vehicles are going bad, malfunctioning, and breaking continuously. the rpms are delayed in the decreasing rpms process, which tells the computer to shift prematurely, or to quickly, causing any internal parts and external parts to be damaged. these vehicles are equipped with a computerized throttle positioning sensor that is attached to the actual throttle body. the computer is sending improper commands to the throttling position sensor, rpms, shifting delay and synchronized shifting sensors. this is putting too much of a load on the gears, bearings, clutches, and other parts pertaining to the functioning of the cvt transmission shifting and everyday use. ford motor company (as stamped on the vin and vehicle information sticker inside and on the driver side door jam of the vehicle) should have perfected and or recognized these issues during the manufacturing, testing, and or dino sessions. all vehicle designs are to be tested, diagnosed if any issues occur, and are to be fixed, redesigned, and replaced. ford should take recognition to the customers and dealers that own these vehicles. people are purchasing these vehicles without the knowledge of possible failure and technical difficulties of these units. these issues can cause the vehicles, especially the vehicles that are all wheel drive, to lock up, brake, break, accelerate uncontrollably, and cause wrecks, fender benders, or more severe injuries, and even the lives of people of this great nation. the united states government will need to take action immediately, before ford motor company vehicles kill, eliminate, and or decease people. *tr
We were pulling out of a parking lot into traffic on a highway and the wrench light came on and we lost all power to the vehicle. the vehicle had to be shut off and then started back up in the middle of the road. another incident happened on my way to work and there were cars behind me. i was able to make it to the side of the road to start it back up. the third incident happened again on my way to work and then the engine light illuminated and when i had it checked the codes p2104 and p2111 came up. the throttle body was stuck opened and in a bind. i was almost hit during the second incident and feel that this is a serious safety issue. i am glad that i wasn't on the interstate going 65 or 70 mph. the car almost came to a complete stop on its own in the matter of a few yards. *tr
It first started while driving down the street my traction control light and my wrench light suddenly came on. my vehicle was put into "safe mode"which caused my car to stop losing all power. i looked up my vin number at ford.com and it said a recall is in action by the company to remedy a safety or emissions-related concern related to a vehicle to the dealer for service. i contacted the service department at ford and the customer relationship center and was told its not a recall it was under an extended warranty that expired in may 31st 2013. just on oct 4 2014 i was driving on the expressway with my wife and children and the car suddenly put it into safe mode and abruptly stopped! im sorry but it sounds like a safety concern to me and should be considered a recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while driving at various slow speeds, the vehicle lunged forward while the service engine light was illuminated. the failure occurred randomly in the winter months. the contact also mentioned that the engine stalled shortly after the failure occurred. the vehicle was able to restart after several attempts. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle accelerated when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact also stated that the vehicle accelerated at a high speed while in cruise control. additionally, the tires were wearing out prematurely. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 70,000.
A little over 3 years ago, i filed a complaint regarding a surging with my ford freestyle. we had our vehicle serviced and the throttle body cleaned. the problem was resolved for a while, but we recently started experiencing issues again. this time the freestyle would lose acceleration, the rpms dropped, and a wrench-shaped warning light activated. at first it seemed to be an issue only when cruise control was activated, but has since happened during normal driving. we took our car into the dealer, and they completely replaced the throttle body for a total of $900, but we are still having issues. *tr
Lunges forward or backward when put in to drive or reverse .check charging system comes on and off as it please. i have had it checked out 4 different times but no problems have been found. the next issue is now it is displaying the wrench light and says engine safe mode and check engine light is on. i really liked my car until this has started it is my only car and i have 3 small children i need to transport daily and i am very scared to drive this car but have no other choice. ford please help figure out these problems i have read a lot about other having these same problems. *tr
Vehicle idling, vehicle put into reverse and instantly accelerated backwards, depressed brake and vehicle net into a safe fail mode. engine light and a wrench dashboard light came on. turned vehicle off and back on systems came up fine. put vehicle in drive and vehicle accelerated and lunged forward. engine light and wrench dashboard light came on and engine went into fail safe mode again. drove vehicle home in fail safe mode. vehicle was taken in for servicing september 08, 2010 for same issue, throttle body was replaced. *tr
I was driving on the freeway roughly 65-70 mph and the failsafe engine mode came on, which disabled my gas pedal. i could not accelerate. i was in the far left lane, and had to "coast" with my hazard lights on so i could turn the car off while in park on the shoulder. i restarted the car and it went away. thankfully traffic was light! earlier in the week this same thinghappened on my way to work i was on a 35 mph rd, and it did this, lost all use of the gas. had to kill the car and restart but that time the check engine codes p2106 and p061b were drawn.(not the first time i've had these codes i know they mean throttle body'sbad) i've kept my obdii scanner in the car cuz these codes come up once a week at least. i just keep erasing them, restarting the car, and drives fine till it randomly goes off again. thus was the first time it has happened to me on the highway. it scared me to death that i would have been rear ended on a highway. these should be recalled. ford claims there's no safety issue. i barely avoided a potential fatal crash! *tr
My ford freestyle has began to experience acceleration problems when parking or reversing at low speeds only while the a/c is running on any fan level. have come close to hitting a pedestrian while parking, but no serious injuries to report. updated 3/17/2015 *js
I am writing to complain about 2 issues that i have experienced with my 2005 ford freestyle vin # [xxx]...i have read online by a lot of people complaining about the throttle body...my car tries to accelerate on its own at times even when i am on the brake...also the ac problem i have that i have read about online by a lot of people. my car wont cool when idling but the driver side will cool when going down the highway. i do believe the problems should be addressed with all the complaints about them. thanks for your time. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
On multiple occasions, this vehicle is lunging. unexpected moving when foot not on accelerator. this happens at low speed. i have two kids under the age of 2 and i would like for you to recall this vehicle and repair it immediately. i don't deem it safe to drive. i see where this has been investigated since 2011 and you should recall the vehicles before someone get seriously injured. please respond as to what you are waiting on. *tr
* acceleration problems when parking or reversing at low speeds when the a/c is running on any fan level. - during high exterior temperatures when vehicle ac is on, vehicle drastically lunges forward if in drive - or backwards if in reverse. research online states that this is a common problem among ford vehicles, therefore if ford does not act swiftly to correct this obvious safety defect in their manufacturing, i will contact my congressional/senate representatives. these vehicles transport children, and ford should do the right thing and not ignore these problems like chevrolet and toyota did. "man-up" ford! *tr
We had problems with it revving up wanted to go forward when parking. we had the throttle body cleaned , helped for a little while.problems with the air conditioning had compressor replaced, then starting having electrical problems (failure safe mode engine would shut down) while driving . had alternator replaced because all electrical starting shutting down and turning off while driving also transmisson was trying to go in reverse while driving reverse lights would come on very dangerous. replaced body computer still didn't fix the problem to afraid to drive it . it was paid off but no one could fix the problems, how can you have a vehicle that no one can fix,we have been informed that ford knew of these problems but would do nothing about them. very disappointed we really liked the car when we got it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would accelerate or decelerate independently. the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body valve needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 140,243.
In drive at 40 mph to 55 mph the car almost stalls and goes i to fail safe mode. in fail safe mode the car runs at 15 mph. the dealer says they can not duplicate the problem. *tr
In 2011 the throttle body failed on my 2005 ford freestyle. ford recommended cleaning the throttle body and i had this done at a ford dealer. ford later extended the warranty on this part and reimbursed me. following this, i found that the car occasionally lunged and the rpms would race. on november 3, 2013 the vehicle went into fail safe mode while driving at 45 mph. i was in heavy traffic and the entire engine stopped accelerating. i immediately hit my brakes and began to pull over. i restarted the vehicle and tried to make my way home at 15 mph. on monday i made an appointment to have my car seen. i was told it was still covered by the extended warranty. on tuesday the car again went into fail safe mode and shut down while driving. i was almost rear ended. on inspection, the dealer found that the throttle body was at fault. the part was faulty, and could not be cleaned to fix. it would have to be replaced, but ford would not cover the cost (over $900) even though they know there is a problem with this part. when calling, i was told that they would only cover a one time cleaning. the cleaning did not fix the problem, and this is a massive safety issue. the car shuts down in traffic, leaving you vulnerable. *tr
We purchased a used 2005 ford freestyle on april 4, 2013. it had 74,590 miles on it. on october 1, 2013 the ctv transmission began to fail. check engine and check transmission warnings came on, the car would not accelerate past 10mph, it lurched and crunched at 3500-4000rpms. we made it less than one block before it just stopped in the road. turning the engine off and back one, i was able to get back to ten mph and limp it back home. later that day after disconnecting the battery for ten minutes, the car fired up no problem and was drivable until the october 3, 2013 where this action repeated but it didn't even make it a block before stopping. again, by turning the engine off and back on i was able to limp it home. my husband was able to get it started one more time and took it to the mechanic. after an afternoon of full diagnoses, we were told it needed a new refurbed (so not even new) transmission for $6400.00! we were able to limp it home from the mechanics while we consider our options. after researching online this appears to be a well known problem with the ctv transmissions that ford is fully aware of and has no plans to correct. we would like to know what our options are with this lemon! we haven't even had it for 6 months and it has low mileage. thank you. *tr
