Surging/lurching unexpectedly with my 2005 ford freestyle. i take my children to and from school and extracurricular activities. i almost hit a group of children crossing in front of me due to my car surging unexpectedly. i have been having trouble with my car for quite some time and checked periodically for recalls for this issue. contacting the nearest ford dealership after our local dealership shut down. i used to think ford was a decent vehicle, i will never purchase another american made vehicle. the warranties suck on them, and they seldom are true to their customers and do not take care of defective issues in a timely manner if ever. the first incident was in may 2008. the surging issue has recurred many times since. and it is getting worse. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestle. the contact was driving approximately 5 mph and attempting to park. as the brake was applied, the vehicle began to accelerate forward with a sudden increase in engine rpms. the brake was engaged firmly and the vehicle came to a stop. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000. updated 06/16/11*lj the consumer stated after the throttle was replaced, there were no more problems. updated 06/24/11

In 2008 my ford freestyle started lunging forward at very low speeds when in gear without either the brake or accelerator pedal applied. if i applied the brakes, it stopped the car right away, but if i was sitting with the vehicle in drive or reverse and didn't have my foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle would suddenly lunge - and the only way to stop it was to slam on the brakes. i am just luckily we never hit anyone. it seemed to happen after it rained. a local (non ford) mechanic stated that he believed the ecm was getting wet and corrosion was causing this problem. after he addressed the problem (he cleaned and tightened pins, sealed with terminal sealer/corrosion inhibitor), the problem completely stopped. now, 4 years later, it's doing it again. but that mechanic is no longer in business and i am worried that this is a chronic (and scary) problem that needs to be addressed. this morning my vehicle lunged suddenly backwards out of my driveway, right into the sidewalk where children were passing. i had stopped my car, let up the brake and it lunged. no one was hurt but i no longer feel comfortable driving it. i hope that you can investigate this problem and provide me with an update (and a solution!). we love the vehicle otherwise. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that whenever the vehicle was moving at various speeds and when her foot was on the brake pedal, it lunged forward. the failure also occurred when she drove in reverse. the failure has occurred over 50 times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who repaired the throttle body, air compressor and the alternator; however, the failure continued to occur. the vehicle malfunctioned more frequently during the summer months. the vehicle has been diagnosed 4 times and each time the mechanic stated that it was repaired. the dealer will not make any additional repairs since the warranty was no longer valid. the failure mileage was 32000. the current mileage is 95000. updated 3/16/10 *cn upadted 07/07/10.*jb

I own a 2005 ford freestyle with awd and the cvt transmission. recently i drove up pikes peak. on the way back down i used the low range which is supposed to act as an engine brake. it was not nearly low enough to keep vehicle at a slow enough speed to negotiate the road coming back down. at the check point about a third of the way down our brakes were measuring 600+ degrees so we were told we should pull over for at least 40 minutes to let them cool. we did so and went on down the mountain with no problem, but i feel that this is something that should be addressed before someone goes down a mountain that does not have a check point. i contacted ford motor co around the first of july and as of today have received no response of any kind. thus i felt that i should make someone aware of this possible problem. *jb

Unintended acceleration - happened infrequently early in vehicles life at lower mileage. now unintended acceleration happens much more frequently and regularly. it only happens at low speed, idle rpm and during parking maneuvers. unintended acceleration/surge is most common after a cold start and with steering input. this behavior requires that i maintain active pressure on the brake to maintain control over the vehicle. however, i am concerned that, with the issue becoming worse with age, i may lose control over the vehicle and cause property damage or injure an innocent bystander. current mileage is 95,000 and issue has become markedly worse since 75,000. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while braking to a stop, the vehicle surged forward abnormally. the failure recurred mostly when the air conditioner was activated. in order to correct the failure, the contact would apply the brakes and shift to neutral, before shifting the vehicle into drive. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or a repair shop for inspection or repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of failure however, did not provide any assistance. the failure mileage was 15,000. the current mileage was 50,100.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. while the contact was driving at speeds under 20 mph, the vehicle unexpectently accelerated and the engine slightly revved. the failure continued to occur, spontaneously and with increased frequency. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer fifty times for the identical failures where the technician was unable to duplicate the problem. recently, the failure occurred repeatedly when the brakes were applied, when coming to a stop. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer in which the failure was contributed to the throttle body. also, the engine support bracket had broken. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 20,000. the vin was unavailable. updated 10/27/10. *lj

Throttle body is giving me trouble. when i am at a light or stopped my car accelerates by itself. is a safety issue as sometimes i am at a pedestrian crosswalk or just at a light. very concerned about this issue. *kb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 50 mph on dry roads, the instrument panel gauges raised up to the highest readings, then dropped down to the lowest and subsequently did not function. also, while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle surged forward without warning while the brake pedal was depressed. finally, even though the vehicle has a continuous transmission, there was still a moderate shift shock between gears. the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the cause of the problems were unable to be determined. the manufacturer was also notified.

2005 ford freestyle sudden accelerations and motor revs while at slow speed or at a full stop. motor revs and then stalls also the car goes into "safe" mode. i have owned the car since new 9/05 and every summer we go through this the problem has be mis-diagnosed by ford dealers several times capitol ford in san jose ca, has put a "patch" in computer, litha ford in fresno, replaced m.a.f sensor, and future ford in clovis blamed incorrect air box installation after the car was serviced and air filter replaced. each warm season the car does this. drove the car 2 miles from future ford only to have it repeat the same problem we came in with. *tr

Tl*the contact 2005 ford freestyle. the contact stated while driving in reverse with the brakes depressed the vehicle suddenly accelerated and the power train light illuminated when the failure occurred. the failure occurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test. the vehicle was repaired; however, it did not correct the failure. the vehicle continued to suddenly accelerate and the power train light illuminated when the failure occurred. the vehicle was not repaired a second time. the failure mileage was 9,000 and the current mileage was 99,000. updated 08/01/11*lj updated 08/15/11

The vehicle surges when at a complete stop. it also stops when driving it down the road. the "wrench" light comes on and the vehicle slows to a complete stop. this is extremely dangerous. the service engine light comes on. the vehicle does this on a consistent basis......6 or 7 times per 25 miles! i took it to the ford garage where i purchased it in clinton, nc. they put it on the machine and said they could not find anything wrong. their suggestion was to turn off air or heat!!! now after researching this issue online i find out there are numerous complaints about the same issue. i took the car to a local mechanic who was suggested to me by our local advance auto store. the mechanic was very familiar with the freestyle and the same issue. the solution to fix the problem is a new throttle body. at a cost of $520.00. i called the ford garage in clinton, nc to see if they had the part so my local mechanic could fix it. now the parts employee, bobby told me the throttle body problem was a "huge" issue with the freestyle and there should have been a recall. is it going to take someone getting killed or seriously injured before ford takes responsibility. by the way, i have contacted ford, to no avail. the wrench light issue started once in a while on february 18, 2011. it now is a daily thing multiple times a day since april 5, 2011. updated 10/06/11 status update 11/15/11

Car accelerates when at low idle and the a/c is running. the car will lurch forward. i can stop it with the brakes. can happen at stop lights, but usually the brake is fully depressed at stop lights. unfortunately, it happens when backing out of the driveway and switching to drive, it will lurch at that point. it will also happen when parking, either pull-in parking or parallel. just lucky i've been able to hit the brakes in time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford freestyle. the contact was stopped at a traffic light with the brake depressed when the vehicle accelerated abnormally. the contact stated that the failure was also experienced while in reverse or attempting to park the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for failure where the brakes hoses and brake switch was replaced, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed but no assistance was offered. the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer until the cause for the failure was determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.

Car was at a full stop and accelerated on it's own lunging forward. luckily i reacted quick enough or i would have hit another vehicle. my wife thought it did the same thing earlier this week but only briefly. this is really discouraging because i have always owned fords and this vehicle is disswaying my opinion of their vehicles. it,s bad enough i have to get the rear brakes replaced on this vehicle every 25,000 miles which by the way is another safety issue you should be looking into. *tr

Began when car was about one year old. it occurs just about every time it's driven. i took car to garage and they said it was o.k. it lungs in forward and reverse. *tr
