Problems with 2013 Ford Escape ENGINE

On average, the 2013 Ford Escape starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 62 432 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2013 Ford Escape

1st incident: while driving thru a store parking lot at about 10 mph and further reducing the speed to park, the engine quit without warning. after engaging park, i was able to restart the engine normally. no check light remain lit. vehicle mileage 4850 - weather condition: about 85 deg - humid - 10:00~11:00 am - second week in july 2013 2nd incident: while driving at approx 25 mph and reducing speed to turn into a parking lot the engine stopped. no previous warning or symptoms. car was in the middle of the street facing oncoming traffic. i was able to safely pull over into a safe spot. after engaging park, i was able to restart the engine normally. no check light remain lit. vehicle mileage 5100 - weather condition: about 85 deg - humid - 19:00~19:30 pm - last week in july 2013 today 08/02/2013 car was checked by ford dealer. after a full morning checking the car, no fault or code error detected. i am afraid of a potential safety hazard while driving on highways. web has many reports of this type on brand new 2013 ford escapes. what is going on? *tr

Started ignition and automatically displayed message - engine fault service engine now. pulled out of home driveway and when accelerated on the gas, vehicle jerked severely. pulled over and turned off the vehicle and restarted, the same message and jerking occurs. later that day i started the vehicle, the message went away and had no jerking upon accelerating. this "engine at fault" is a serious concern if this occurs while driving. took the vehicle a couple weeks ago about the same issue to a dealership and told them the situation, however the message did not appear on display. their conclusion was if the engine fault message was not on display, then the vehicle should be fine. *tr

First thing in the morning, after car was off for more than 10 hours, i started car to see engine fault service now" error. backed a few feet out of garage, turned off vehicle. turned vehicle back on about 5 minutes later. no error. drove car for about 10-15 minutes. no problems. turned car off. restarted car 70 minutes later to see engine fault service now error appeared again. drove car for 10-15 minutes with hesitation, lurching and nearly stalling. turned car off. took to dealer next day. they could not see the error in the computer. *tr

Vehicle displayed message service engine fault service engine now on start up. immediately shut down and restarted. message went away. next day vehicle displayed same message and then began jerking severely. taken to ford dealer. forced to pay for rental! vehicle has 6800 miles! dealer never gets back to me when they say they will. tried telling me to take vehicle back without them fixing it. serious safety risk as vehicle jerk and hesitates uncontrollably. very dangerous if occurred while on roadway. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 70 mph up an incline, the overheating warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to ford fairfield (3050 auto mall ct, fairfield, ca 94534), but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v583000 (engine). the manufacturer transferred the contact directly to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 2,000.

The cam phazor used in the 2013 ford escape variable valve timing system failed after only one week and 750 miles. we noticed the vehicle was hard to start, idled rough, and hesitated. this is a brand new vehicle. we purchased this car in east tennessee on july 4, 2013, and it was in the shop a week later for a major engine repair. so glad it did not break down on the interstate and leave us stranded, but the potential is there if ford has a bad batch of cam phazors on 2013 ford escapes. *tr

Vehicle with approximately 4000 miles stalls while driving. the vehicle has stalled 3 times in the last 15 days, twice while driving on major roads with average speed being about 45 mph. the vehicle literally just turns off. it doesn't shake, jerk, make any noise, nothing, just turns off. i get a message that says "engine fault service now." it is a very scary situation to experience. since the car just dies at full speed the momentum of the car keeps the car moving but obviously at a much slower pace. this last sunday, july 14, 2013 the car stalled on a very busy, major road, so i was in a very close call for an accident. the cars behind me did not see my hazard lights on and didn't realize i had stalled. all i heard was the screeching of brakes behind me. i was getting yelled at, flipped off, you name it, but there was nothing i could do but hope that the momentum would be enough to allow me to pull over to right lane until i could come to a stop in a safe place. on july 11, 2013, i took it to the dealer, they replaced the map sensor and said the problem was fixed. when it stalled again on the sun, 7/14/13, i took another day off work to take the car back to the dealership. they tell me it needs another 2 parts due to technical service bulletin 137-5. now i'm waiting for the parts to come in as they are on a nationwide back order. i understand lemon law requires the same thing to happen 3-4 times however i don't want to risk the 3rd or 4th time being the time i don't make it. please help. what can i do? *tr

For the fourth time in 4 months the"engine fault. service now." message displayed. another day of work missed to being the vehicle into the dealer. thankfully i bought the service package but it was for 'just in case' not a monthly visit. the dealer staff has been very close-lipped about the history of this event happening on many other of these same vehicles. *tr

Driving approx. 15/20 mph on a side street. went to backup and turn around and the engine just shut down. i was able to restart with no issues. i'm glad i wasn't on the highway when this happened. on 08/02/13, went to my driveway to start the car. i got a "engine fault service now" error. vehicle was jumping and seemed like it was struggling to go past 25/30 mph. seemed as though you were driving with the parking brake on along with the jumping of the vehicle. i parked it back in the driveway and had to drive my daughters reliable 05 honda to work. called ford to tow my vehicle in for service. purchased in nov/2012. has approx. 13000 miles. *tr

While driving, in humid weather conditions the vehicle lost power and began lurching, shuddering and jerking. center, driver side screen (behind steering wheel) displayed "engine fault - service now". was able to drive about a mile back home in "limp mode". i shut off the engine, waited and then restarted and all seemed ok. next day i went to the ford dealer's service and explained the problem. they could not pull any codes and said it was probably just a "fluke". ... it's happened again twice more this week since then. it's not a "fluke". ford engineers need to get involved here to determine the cause of the problem, and communicate with the dealer service centers, and issue a tsb fix or recall. it's become a serious performance and reliability concern, and a very serious safety issue as well. i can find similar complaints to mine all over the internet, yet ford claims ignorance of any problems.???? *tr

My car has overheated twice after the recall fix. my coolant was violently boiling over. my transmission is also grossly shifting incorrectly. i almost got hit by another car when i was trying to merge onto the freeway since it wasn't going to the next gear. the transmission redlined and then shifted. i checked my obt and i'm not getting any codes for these problems. i'm not sure what to do anymore since anytime i've brought my car in they haven't found any issues. i've brought my car in several times about the engine and transmission and no issues have been found. i drive through the santa cruz mountains every week and i'm afraid one day my engine will catch on fire (hilly roads and low speeds cause the engine to run hot). it would be disastrous for the state of california if a wildfire was started due to this car. *tr

As i am driving along, my car starts to jump & sputter & dies. information light comes on with "engine fault, service immediately." i take the car in to the ford dealer & he tells me there is not a code showing up so they can't do anything. i have had my escape to the ford house 4 times for the exact same thing & everytime, no code shows up. what the heck? if the engine dies & it tells you engine fault service immediately how can there not be a code show up? we were on vacation this weekend and it dies 4 times while we are gone. i was nearly rear-ended several times because it is never at the same rate of speed! sometimes i am sitting at a red light, sometimes i am driving in town at 30 mph, sometimes i am on the interstate at 75 mph. this is extremely dangerous for one thing i could be hit from behind & injured along with my family & grandson, for another thing when it dies, i lose my steering & my brakes. not good when you are in hill country either. i am tired of ford not doing anything about this! i guess they are going to wait until people get killed before they finally do something about it! saving money to trade vehicles before something happens to my family! i only have 21,000 miles on this vehicle and i think it is a total of 8 times this has happened in the 13 months i have owned this vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while at a stop light, the vehicle stalled as the engine failure service soon warning message illuminated. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. in addition, unknown repairs were made to the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the approximate failure and current mileage was 17,000. *tr

Was driving doing 40mph when out of no where i received a message instructing me to immediately pull vehicle over and shut down due to engine overheating. never received a "low coolant" light, just a sudden warning to pull over. had to be towed from the incident. luckily no one was injured and there were no accidents as it was a two lane, one way, street with no shoulders. opened the hood and i had absolutely no engine coolant. also noticed that the engine was in fact very hot. i am concerned that this has caused engine damage on my brand new vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the engine was started and the engine fault message warning light illuminated as the vehicle hesitated and jerked. the failure was experienced several times. the dealer performed a diagnostic which located the failure at the engine sensor. the dealer cleaned the engine sensor however, the failure was not corrected. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 2,500 and the current mileage was 2,700.

Purchased the vehicle new on may 7, drove 10 miles and parked the vehicle in my garage. on may 11, i noted a substantial amount of engine oil under the car. the vehicle was towed to the service department and the following was noted: oil leak diagnosis timing peg plug missing from right side of engine block. the right half axle shaft and bearing bracket were removed, the plug hole was cleaned and threads tapped using m10 x 1.5 tap. installed new timing plug tightened to spec. new oil and filter installed. the origin of the leak could not be seen by owner visual inspection. either the plug was not installed at the factory or it was not tightened and fell out. either way, had it not been noticed the engine oil would have been totally lost increasing the likelihood of engine damage. further oil covered the under carriage of the vehicle and could have gotten on to brakes compromising safety. not sure if there was potential for engine fire. *tr

The "engine fault service now" light came on and vehicle chugged and lurched. brought to dealer the next day and computer diagnosis showed nothing appeared. i even took a picture of the light. this has happened numerous times since. this matter should be investigated further since i have noticed many complaints on this. thank you. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 2 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the failure recurred sporadically. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times where the technician was unable to duplicate the problem. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 6,150. ..updated 01/23/2014 *bf

While stopped at a stoplight, with the car in drive and my foot on the brake the engine revs up and the car lurches forward and crashes into the car in front of me. this happened last week at a drive thru and i was fortunate that no one was in front of me. *tr

I bought a 2013 ford escape new in nov of 2012. this is an unsafe car. every summer in las vegas where i live the car overheats and i loose engine power. this is a very dangerous situation especially for me as i am 71 years old. i have brought the car back to the dealer many times to correct the problem and they have been unable or unwilling to fix it

I just leased a new car, a 2013 ford escape with a 2.0 l ecoboost engine. i had only filled the tank once before i noticed serious problems; whenever i came to a stop, the escape would shudder and stall or simply turn off. it happened on multiple occasions daily for about a week before i could take it to the shop. as a surgeon, i typically get off much later than the ford dealership was open. they have taken it for repair, but it was pretty scary because it would shake and rattle when accelerating sometimes and i was concerned it might stall mid intersection. luckily it only stalled when i had come to a stop. *tr

Losing coolant but no visible signs where it's going. the water pump was changed but did not resolve problem. i bought the vehicle in 2013 and when the weather began to get cold the service engine light came on. i added a small amount of coolant then. it has gotten worse over the years but no one knows where i'm losing it from. i saw where other ford escapes are being recalled with the same problem but mine was not one of them. can you please help me?

My ford escape 1.6l engine will overheat if i park it by the beach all day & then try to drive over the foothills to the valley. this is a consistent and repeatable problem. i have two videos that i showed ford but apparently they can't fix it. this car is not safe to drive since my car can overheat when i'm on a road like highway 17, which doesn't have a shoulder. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. a week after the vehicle was repaired per an unknown manufacturer recall, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the cooling bypass valve needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred six months later. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed as having the same failure. the vehicle was repaired again, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 1,000. the vin was not provided.

Starting around 6,500mi, escape would not start without a jump start. after several days of calling tow trucks for these jumps, took it into ford dealership. they swapped battery and said that's all it needed. after a week, escape engine cut out at while stopped at red signal light. engine warning lights for oil and battery came on, and nothing else. pushed car to side of road and after waiting for tow for 20 minutes, i tried to start engine again and everything came back on as if nothing had happened. after two days of "all systems normal," i went to start the engine and it began to shake violently and a "engine malfunction-service immediately" warning came up on the dash. i tried to pull car out of parking spot and it had almost no power. barely putted along despite my really giving it the gas. parked and had it brought to ford dealership again. on arrival they pulled a code p0106 off reader. it's been there for 10 days and they say they can not reproduce issue, and have made no repairs. still waiting for news. *tr

Had regular oil change on 4/15/13 and about a week after. while coming to a stopped the vehicle just stalled without warning. had to come to come to complete stop to put car in park and restart. ran vehicle health report--nl. went to dealer who did oil change and said they never heard of this car doing it . if happened again call roadside. 05/29/13 at 545pm car stalled again no warning. called crown ford set up appt for mon. 06/10. 6/7/13 558am car again stalled at about 35 mph no warning had to put in neutral apply brake to restart since i was on road with no shoulder and mid curve. keep appt for mon. at about 423pm that day started car and engine fault noted on start tried to drive out of parking garage. car was missing and barely moving. transmission made loud clunk noise. coasted car down parking garage so tow truck would be able to access it. towed to crown ford. offered vehicle health report i ran stating it was powertrain issue. they declined needed it. checked and replace map sensor. picked up on 6/11/13 and 06/12/13 stalled again early in the morning about 600am and then i was advised to bring back to dealer. stalled again on way to dealer approximately 1130 am. advised service dealer they ran diagnostic for the next week which all came back normal. service manager drove on 06/17 and stated problem reproduced and would replace throttle body.this was done and i picked up on 06/21. 06/23 at approximately 204 pm car stalled again...restarted after putting in neutral unable to come to a stop vehicles behind us...restarted when restarted engine missing again when pushed gas the transmission seemed to make a clunk noise and stalled again.the vehicle without notice stalls and is a great safety issue and after last stall the rpm seems to rev up some.this is a major defect and life threatening defect. vehicle randomly stalls & now revs rpms. *tr

In april, while proceeding through an intersection, the vehicle lost all power and stalled out in the middle of the road. i was able to quickly restart the vehicle. once the vehicle was restarted and engaged into drive, it seemed to get a surge of power, accelerating at a faster speed than normal. on 6/16/2013, i was driving my vehicle to the store. during the trip, it felt like the vehicle was lagging, as if i was driving with the parking brake on. i verified that the parking brake was not on, and the vehicle was in drive (not the "s'" manual shift position). on the way home (approximately 45 minutes later), while pulling away from a stop sign, the engine lost all power, stalling the vehicle. i was going downhill, so i was able to navigate to the side of the road. the vehicle was difficult to start. the vehicle usually starts immediately with the push button start, but this time it did not, i had to hold the push button down for approximately 5 to 7 seconds before the vehicle started. while driving home after this, it again felt like the vehicle was lagging, or as if the brake was on while i was driving. *tr

On 4-16-13 the engine on my new escape started to sputter and not run right. on 4-17-13 i cranked the escape in my drive way and it sputtered and died. after about 3 hours the escape cranked and i drove it to the ford dealer where i bought it to have it fixed. the escape has been at the ford dealership since 04/17/13 and they have not been able to fix the problem with the engine or the other part that keeps it from running. the escape has died or quit running at the dealership 3 times that i know of from reports that the dealership staff has updated me with. the dealership has had the escape sixteen days. *tr

The engine has died and shut off while driving down a highway at 40 miles per hour twice. took the vehicle to dealership and no problem was found. one week later on may 17 the vehicle died while pulling out into traffic. the driver had to veer unpowered off the road to avoid a head on collision. engine has shut down four times while driving in one week. *tr

Vehicle reported engine temperature too high and that i should pull over safely. this is the same engine overheating / fire hazard problem supposedly fixed during december 2012 recall. *tr

My car keeps overheating. here are some videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgpiqxzg_ho&feature=youtu.be you can see it high at the start of this video & starting again around 50s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ktaa6tt_6c&feature=youtu.be this is an older video from april. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the engine failed with the illumination of the check engine light. in addition, the information screen center advised that the engine needed service and that the vehicle surged and stalled simultaneously. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed; which located the failure at the map sensor. the map sensor was replaced several times however, the failure was not corrected. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 4,558 and the current mileage was 5,769.

2013 ford escape sel 2.0l. recurrent issues with "engine fault service now" displaying when car is started (first instance at 5817 miles, now at 11k and still happening). results in rough idle, poor shifting, harsh acceleration. can be reset with restart so the error must be visible and the car driven (in terrible and unsafe condition) so the dealer can validate the condition. condition validated at dealer twice (has occurred five times total) computer has been reset twice, map sensor has been replaced. issue still occurring with no proposed repair to resolve. *tr

While depressing the brake pedal in order to bring the vehicle to a full stop at a stop sign in a residential neighborhood, the engine raced and the vehicle lurched forward beyond the stop sign. i, the driver, was required to quickly place the vehicle into neutral gear as the acceleration of the engine and the fully depressed brake pedal seemed to be fighting against each other. *tr

Since january, my 2013 escape has been in the shop on three separate occasions for the same major engine issue. from the driver's perspective, the car lurches and jerks and feels as though it will stall. then a ?service engine now? light appears. this occurs shortly after i pull out of my driveway and proceed on flat city blocks. this lurching/jerking is frightening and feels unsafe. i have been told from the ford service advisor that they have twice replaced the m.a.p. sensor and connector. 3/22/13, 4/3/13. now the car is at ford 4/29/13 with the same exact symptoms. i await a call from ford service to give me the latest diagnosis/prognosis. there are other issues involving the sync system that are also in the case record. suffice to say, sync is not working as advertised. for example, the clock is inconsistent and the navigation system is adversely affected by pairing with bluetooth devices such as the iphone. i am aware that ford is aware of these bugs. at present, i was advised not to pair my devices which is inconvenient to say the least. the lurking/jerking is the main complaint however. *tr

I bought the car brand new nov. 2012 and it had 200 miles on it. from about mar/april 2013 i have taken the car in 6 times for the same problem over the past year and a half that they can not seem to fix. when i start the car or its already running and i start to drive the "engine fault, service now" comes up and the car goes into limp mode until its shut off and re-started again, at which point its a 50/50 chance of working right. this has happened in the driveway when i first start the car as well as when im driving it will go into limp mode and not get above first gear and it sputters to a stop. i have had my engine sensors changed twice because they kept blowing out. the problem still continues. *tt

Very disappointed by the design. wheel well are extremely difficult to remove ice and slush they are too small and can't remove debris. wipers in the front is not the greatest. loses contact on windshield have a heard time seeing where i am going. terrible wipers when purchased new wipers required. engine having really odd noise and sluggish. i supposed they replaced the injectors. had some torque but sounds like timing chain loose or lifters issue. seats are not comfortable in the rear. not enough cushion. windows barely went up and down. lots of give... too much replaced front window motors. *tr

I started my vehicle in the morning using the remote start feature. after about 10 minutes, i entered my vehicle, backed out of my driveway and put it in drive. upon depressing the accelerator, the car hesitated, then surged, hesitated again and then stalled in the middle of the road. i put my hazard warning on and attempted to restart the vehicle. it would not restart. i finally was able to restart the vehicle after about 5 minutes and limped it back into my driveway. i called for tow service and had it towed to the dealership where i purchased it. the service manager informed me several times that there were no logged faults in the ecm even though i had a check engine light immediately after this occurred. later however, i learned from the actual mechanic, that there were several codes logged and there was a technical bulletin out to update the body control module with new software. the tech stated he could not do that however as his tooling would not show the bcm module or allow him to program it even though the directions stated his version of tooling software should allow it. they called ford tech support and received no answers. they sent me on my way with my vehicle and did not do anything with it. i'm fearful the issue has not been resolved and poses a safety risk due to lack of acceleration and stalling. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the engine gases and fumes entered the passenger compartment due to a defective windshield dowing that caused engine compartment seal to fail. in addition, the vehicle stalled several times without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failures and a diagnostic was performed but did not generate a diagnosis of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 156 and the current mileage was 64,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that the engine coolant fluid leaked onto the exhaust manifold. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where it was repaired under recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 13v583000 (engine). after the remedy repair was performed the failure persisted. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,000.

I purchased a 2013 ford escape in oct 2012. it has been in service three times for the same issue. faulty engine light "service now" but computer didn't capture any issues with vehicle. first time dealer changed the mass pressure air sensor. the second time they contact ford which told them to upgrade the computer software, this time i called to have the manufacturer send the ford engineer which states it is the onboard computer. he emailed ford for the diagrams since vehicle is new and not available to the dealer (so that is what i am being told). the dealer has no idea of what the problem truly is. finally contact manufacturing who states it is a computer component. vehicle still at dealership for repair. it is a safety hazard due to the lunging and hesitation of the vehicle when you depress the accelerator. it doesn't have enough power to get you out of an intersection if needed. it lunges forward as if the transmission is defective or the fuel injectors. *tr

I used the 'remote start' feature tostart my car. i then entered the vechicle, started it up [as usual]. when pulling out of the driveway, the car stopped/stalled out. i put it in park, restarted. 'check engine' light came on. was driving to dealership and car stopped/stalled again. would not restart. towed to dealership. dealership said there was a 'problem with onboard computer'. computer reset. have had same problem twice. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and completely shut off. also, the engine need service soon warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to packey webb ford (1815 w ogden ave, downers grove, il 60515, (630) 598-4700) where the contact was informed that coolant was leaking into the engine and cylinder four was misfiring. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they would pay part of the repair cost. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Upon taking my car in for the recall, i was notified on 12/19/2012 that the oil gasket was leaking. to date ( 1/2/13) sarat ford in agawam ma still does not have the parts or any idea when my car will be fixed. it has 3100 miles on it and i purchased it in late september 2012. *tr

During the latest recall for the ford escape 2013 with 1.6l ecoboost engine, the dealer found other issues outside the software update to prevent overheating of the engine. the dealer also stated there is a fuel bridge issue or some kind of leak, if ford knows about these issues why we don't hear about them on the recall, they are eager to fix the issue, so it leads me to believe they are hiding other issues with the engine fires. does nhtsa knows about these other issues? i am pushing for ford to fix my car or buy it back. it leads me to believe this is not a simple software fix like they are talking about in the media. i hope nhtsa is pushing ford to come clean and tell the full story, before somebody gets hurt. are they just trying to buy time, not sure why is taking so long for my car to get fix when they are saying is just half day fix. then today they said is some like and they even mention the fuel bridge, what is the true story? *tr

First dealer issues now sitting in lot since recall and being told the dealer does not have the fix for 1.6 yet-12-4 was told by rep at ford that i would get a buy back. then told no on 12-14. can't reach either person at ford. dealer said on 12-20 that they do not have fix yet-people should be made hold and be able to get full value for trade in for 2.0. ford is losing any confidence i had in them because of the handling of this situation. *tr

Car was recalled in december with 786 miles on it due to recall notice 12s41 and was kept in the shop for repair from december 3rd, 2012 to december 20th, 2012. while getting an oil change on may 17th, 2013 it was discovered that the engine has an oil leak as well as the stereo buttons working intermittently. the car is now being brought in today for an unknown time of repair. the car was brand new when purchased on november 24th, 2012 and only had 6,428 miles at the time the recent oil leak and stereo malfunction was discovered. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. while attempting to accelerate from a traffic light, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle stalled. the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. the contact stated that there was an abnormal smoke odor coming from the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to packey webb ford (1815 w ogden avenue, downers grove, il 60515, (866) 496-6602) where it was diagnosed that the engine seized due to a defective water pump, which caused a major coolant leak. the coolant leak caused irreparable damage to the engine. the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. the engine was replaced, but the failure recurred every two to three months. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 13,014.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford escape. the contact stated that he was notified of a recall for the vehicle under nhtsa campaign id number: 12v551000 (engine and engine cooling). the dealer was contacted who confirmed that there was a concurrent recall for the vehicle. the contact stated that he was never advised of the recall by the dealer or the manufacturer. the contact was concerned that per the recall, there was a possibility that the engine would overheat and cause a fire. the vehicle was serviced under the recall. the contact had not experienced a failure. the current mileage was 25.

I purchased this car brand new january 4,2013 at tom denchel ford prosser, washington. all recalls have been very serious - engine will catch fire. i don't feel safe driving this car. i believe ford should have to recall every one of these 2013 ford escape's. the engine has a huge potential of catching on fire. the first recall i believe was the "fuel pump/filter was incorrectly installed" and would cause an engine fire. it seems this car was incorrectly put together. these cars should be taken off the road before consumers lose their lives. i don't feel safe driving this pos vehicle. it just seems there is one recall after another. if there is a consumer class action lawsuit pertaining to this vehicle i would like to know of it so i can get on the list. *tr
