I was driving my ford edge on route 303 in phoenix at about 60 miles per hour when the car suddenly started shaking and losing power. it allowed me to drive a very short distance until i was able to stop the car, in a turn lane with a tractor trailer on my tail ...very disconcerting! a yellow wrench light was showing along with some notice about my traction being off, i believe. after sitting a few minutes i was able to move it off the turn lane and into a fairly safe lane ahead. fortunately a policeman pulled up behind me and i shut off the engine and called aaa for a tow. 20 minutes later, i turned on the engine which now seemed fine so the policeman suggested that i pull forward into a safer area. after doing sotheby's car seemed fine again so i drove it to my daughter's house several miles away and cancelled the tow. i have been researching this issue on line since and this has happened to many edge owners who have feared for their lives when the same thing happened to them. some say cleaning or replacing the throttle plate seemed to work but others have found that the dealers insist nothing is wrong after testing it.... it seems to have happened too many times for nothing to be done.... i think a recall is in order so that the dealerships can find out what the problem is before someone loses their life, if that hasn't already accur. i have a 2011 ford edge.
The suv gave me a blinking engine light. decoding to a misfire problem. the first time i had the car looked at they replaced the coil packs. about 10,000 miles later i got the same misfire problem. some of the coil packs were melted. i had the suv towed to a garage and they said the engine control module is defective. they replaced the control module for $1500.00. yikes. dealer told me that ford motor company knows the ecm is defective but won't recall so i have to pay for their screw up. want a refund from ford.
While sitting in stop[ and go traffic a warning is issued that the engine is overheating! i turn on the heater while driving and the notice goes off! when i approach the car the rear tailgate door opens and at times i can't lock the doors after parking the car! some times a notice of oil pressure is low while driving!
My ford edge 2011 3.5 6cyl while in motion, stopped running and three new electric modules and 6 cores had been replaced and the unit still doesn't run normal and has a burning smell in the motor. unit has been for the last 1 month at the authorized ford dealer and now they want to charge me the catalytic. almost +2k in bills.
Water pump broke while on highway. there were no signs of failure leading up to it. car gave a warning of low oil pressure, then maybe 20 seconds later the engine coolant over temperature warning comes on. car stopped accelerating at this point, got to shoulder of highway and at this point, power steering and brakes were out. engine was smoking. had it towed back to dealership 89 miles away to learn the water pump broke causing catastrophic engine failure and damage. estimate to rebuild engine was $ 7352.00 plus tax. there was no warning or possible way to check the water pump before hand. i purchased the car in 2011 and had it paid off a couple years ago. now all equity in the car is completely gone as the car was only worth 6-8k (according to truecar) and it would cost more to fix it than to purchase a new one. a engine swap was estimated at around $4,000 with labor included as well. after this happened i find out i'm not the only one this is happening to, and that it's a major issue that ford has apparently tried to keep quiet. i hope this is an additional piece of ammunition to use in the case against ford.
Internal water pump exploded inside, causing engine to lock and other damages in the engine. vehicle was in garage for simple tune up. then during checkin, the engine stopped. vehicle could not restart.
First of all the first problem i encountered with my vehicle was the passenger wheel barring was defected and started making a bad noise so took it to the shop and the mechanic said lucky i did because is was about to break and cause my wheel to come off going down the road. after that i noticed that my engine would run hot if i sat still in the parking lot just running even with the ac off. i had no warning that anything was wrong. i turned my car off and it didn't seem to do it anymore until we started getting this really hot weather this may, me and my family was going in to town to grab a bite to eat when (without any warning) my car starts sputtering as if i put bad gas in it. my husband instructed me to pull over and take a look and low and behold my car has been running hot just after driving only 10 minutes. he pulled the dipstick and oil is milky and oil was all in the water resivour. my car had over heated without any warning that anything was wrong and blown heat gasket and cracked heads. my engine shot. we took it to the shop where i had to purchase a new engine and after the mechanic ran a diagnostics test on my car he said that the fan control module was faulty which did not allow my cooling fans to come on at all and my system never alerted me either. we replaced cooling fans along with module. everything seems fine after 2,000 dollars later. fyi never rely on your information screen to tell you if your running hot, go to settings and keep your screen on the temp gauge at all times so you will know for yourself how cool your engine is running. i would be nice after all the complaints ford has received about these piece of crap cooling fans that they will just suck it up and do the recall. we are hard working americans and dont deserve this crap. we support ford an american car manufacturer and expect the same respect!!
Hazard warning touch button quit working -- touch the button and it doesnt work part is integrated into the sony touch control panel/ screen water pump failure without warning -- destroyed the engine -- started as sporadic overheating that thermostat was replaced aliviated it for a short time then it started over back to the garage -- couldnt find anything -- suggested turn engine off then back on to see if temp sensor was the issue -- stopped again for a while then it happened again -- also cam sensor failure when this occured -- took to garage temp sensor cam sensors and thermostat replaced -- system flushed -- garage started it up -- overheating again -- now engines seized
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving approximately 35 mph, the traction control indicator illuminated and the vehicle lost power. the contact turned off the vehicle and it restarted normally. the contact also stated that the failure occurred at least seven times in one day and began six months ago. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Noticed vehicle was leaking black substance, brought it in and was told vehicle's power transfer unit was fried. i was advised by the mechanic that this is a known and common issue in ford suv's. vehicle shakes while driving on the road and has a hard time keeping speed.
Tuesday night 1/22/2019, my daughter described that her car had lost all power while she was driving down a small mostly deserted street in our town when she braked and attempted to turn. she had an extremely difficult time braking and turning the car to get off of the roadway. so, that same evening, i decided to see if it happened to me. it was noted that she had just over a quarter tank of gas so i thought maybe her gas gauge was wrong so i filled the car. we drove around 6 miles when it did happen to me as i braked and attempted to make a left hand turn in front of oncoming traffic. fortunately, the vehicles headed my way were quite a bit down the street, and i allowed myself ample time to get across were this to happen. however, this was at night when that street isn't busy. we live off of this street so avoiding during the day isn't an option. during the day when traffic is busy and constant, there would be no way to allow that much time to get across safely. in the months leading up to these power failures, there were at least three instances where we were in a drive thru or stopped at a stoplight where power would be lost, but never when the car was actually in motion as happened twice on 1/22/2019. i found a forum where this has been reported many times not only to ford, but to the nhtsa and nothing by way of a recall has been called for this problem and it appears that someone will be killed prior to something being done. i've read that the throttle body seems to be the issue here and that ford has denied a problem saying they've never heard of this problem when people take these cars to the dealerships. the evidence is all over the internet where people describe the exact same problem. this car will only be driven as needed and absolutely is not allowed onto the highway. please help resolve this known problem before someone is killed.
Drive belt was shredded and got it replaced the next day i was driving and my car stalled in middle of the highway and i was able to drive it to a shop where i had the car checked and now it is throwing all kinds of codes. the car keeps stalling and hesitating constantly
Stalls and won't accelerate while going down the road. just idles real rough. can only coast to a stop. can't steer. wrench comes on the display. everything i have read said it is probably the throttle body. has less than 40,000 miles.
On friday september 28, 2018, our 2011 ford edge limited lost the ability to accelerate and began decelerating on a freeway while being driven at 60 mph. my husband had to "coast" off the freeway and came to a dead stop without any warning (e.g. no check engine or other lights turned on) in the middle of a busy intersection, at which time the engine began smoking. many hours later we were informed by a service technician at our closest ford dealership, the the internal water pump had failed and flooded the engine with coolant and oil. he stated that there was nothing we did to cause it and nothing could have prevented it because it was due to a "poor design" by ford. he stated he had seen this several times and that our engine would need to be replaced (at a cost of almost $9k). internet research has shown that we are not the only people to experience this and that there is a pending class action lawsuit against ford motor company for this very issue. as of right now, the card is completely dead and cannot be driven, and ford is refusing to accept responsibility for their negligence.
Driving 60mph on highway and car without warning lost power and stalled. on freeway. very dangerous, a semi had to swerve to avoid me. put car in park and after a few minutes the card started back up and drove without problems. this has happened three times without warning and after a bit of time starts back up and drives fine.
I took a left turn to get onto the interstate on 7/30/18 at 7:45 am. when i started to accelerate to merge onto interstate without warning my car stalled and i was not able to accelerate. i was able to pull over thankfully and turn my emergency lights on. my car started to "jump" and was basically stalling out. i turned the car off and then after 5 minutes i was able to turn the car back on and it ran fine. i brought the car to my local ford dealership and they kept it for two days. they tried to recreate the issue but were unable to and said they could not read the error on the computer because it had been "wiped" out when i restarted my car. they told me to come back when the car stalls again. i feel very unsafe driving a car that can stall out and lose power at any minute. i drive a 24 mile bridge with no shoulders daily and interstates. i do not feel safe driving my son around in this car. ford will not do anything for me until the car stalls again. they told me not to turn it off and "limp" it to the dealership(drive it slowly).
As i was travelling home form vacation my check light came on. i pulled over and checked the car manual for the significance of this warning. the manual stated that, "if this warning stays illuminated, then it means that the car is due for a service maintenance. if the warning continues to blink, then service immediately." i continued to drive for another 5 miles and noticed that the car was idling low and running rough. i came to a red light and the warning sign for an over heated engine appears. i had the car towed to a automotive facility and was told that the water pump had broken and that my anti freeze and oil had mixed together and circulated through the entire engine pretty much damaging the entire engine. the cost estimate to have a new engine installed would be over $10,000, due to the water pump being incased in the engine. this car had only had 130,000 miles on it, and i regularly kept up with service on the vehicle. upon on line research, it is my understanding that ford is more than aware of this issue and continues to not do anything about it. i had the car towed to my home and it will now sit there until i can reduce the amount owed on the vehicle and trade it in. the worst part of this is, that there was no type of warning whatsoever, nor did ford ever make me aware of this being a problem in this vehicle.
Water pump exploded and destroyed the engine with no warning. the car stopped working at 65 miles an hour on the highway, lost power, steering and brakes. the car was fully serviced and passed inspection only 10 day before the incident. there was no warning by instruments on the dashboard. only a loss of power.
I own a 2011 ford edge limited with a 3.5l, 6 cylinder engine. the vehicle has been faithfully maintained since i purchased it at ~30,000 miles. on 5/25/2018 while driving out-of-state and with approximately 120,000 miles the vehicle began exhibiting symptoms of stalling at stops and while parking; there were no warning lights or indications of trouble. pulling off the road i inspected the automatic transmission fluid first, since that seemed the most-likely culprit. during this check i overheard a lot of noise as hot coolant was being ejected into the coolant overflow reservoir and it was while the car was parked that the overheat indicator first sounded. after shutting off the engine i noticed water on the pavement under the vehicle. i arranged for the vehicle to be towed to a ford dealership where it was determined the coolant pump had failed. though completely without symptoms until the final few minutes, because the pump is driven by the engine's timing chain, enough damage had been done that a significant amount of coolant had entered the engine. the engine would start, but pressures in cylinders 2 and 4 were compromised and unknown other damage had occurred. the ford service advised that the pump replacement would cost on the order of $2,000 and that life-expectancy for the part was 150,000 miles - two numbers that seem incongruous by themselves for a maintenance item. in addition, the absence of a cooling system warning facilitated driving the vehicle while catastrophic damage was caused to the engine.
Vehicle stalls during operation. this has occurred approximately 6 times in the last 60 days. it goes into limp mode showing " awd off" and the "wrench" icon. contacted ford concerning the customer satisfaction program 16b23 related to this but was denied coverage.the vehicle sat at the dealership for three days without them being able to repeat the issue. the problem will reset when the vehicle is turned off, and no history is captured. the code that we just discovered during an episode is a p2111 code acquired by a can buss reader as it happened in traffic in motion on a city street. pulled to the side of the road and turned it off and it reset. this is dangerous ! my grandchildren ride in this vehicle.this vehicle has less than 55k miles since new. it's frustrating to know that ford is aware of the issue and chooses to refuse the problem until someone is injured or killed.
Car stalls after slowing, almost stopped on a city street. this has happened four (4) times over the last few weeks. after coasting to the side of the road and turning ignition off, car restarts and resumes normal operation.
My engine turned off while i was driving. i was slowing to a stop from 55mph to approx. 20mph to go straight at a red light. the light turned green before i came to a stop. when i pressed the gas to accelerate the engine turned off and all systems in the car did as well including power steering. i had no control of the car as it slowed to almost a stop in the middle of the intersection on a green light. i was luckily to able to coast at approx. 5pmh to the end of the intersection before it completely stopped and the car behind me didn't hit me, they went around. i had to get help pushing it to the side of the road after that to avoid an accident since it stopped in the road. when the engine failed the dash lit up with a picture of the engine and said to check power to engine. there was no warning beforehand. i do all my oil changes and regular maintenance. there was no check engine light or any other indicator that something would have been wrong. after this incident and getting the car home it now has a check engine light and won't run correctly. we changed the battery due to the wording about engine power and that didn't help. what i am most concerned and upset about is after this happened we looked the problem up online and it is has happened to hundreds of other people. if any other problems happened that many times that caused injuries this would be a recall and corrected immediately. but because out of luck i was on a rural 1 stop light road and no cars hit me as my vehicle completely failed on me, it isn't. i've received no notices and bought it used from a dealer. i commute to work every day and i am so thankful this wasn't on a work day on the freeway where it would have caused me to completely stop. or dropping off my kids to school. i am honestly scared to get it 'fixed' and it happen again with no warning. or put my kids in a car that puts us in danger.
My service advance track light keeps appearing there was a recall on it about a year or two but will not be honored..this is affecting my vehicle stability, traction, abs, and control of the vehicle
Cars engine burned/smoke bellowing out and seized up while idling, sitting in front of the house. is this not covered by recall number-10v659000? if not, why not? car did exactly was was described in recall notice noted above.
2 main on going issues 1. brakes- from day one, constantly-needing to be re rotored / new pads / grinding squeaky sounds - all the time. ford blames me for ' not driving enough ' ?.? concerned for safety - will they fail? 2. took car in today 4.5.18 - for 2nd time due to odor of propane or gas when coming to stop / low speed or idleing.. was told no bulletin or notice out for issue - which was leaking fluid undercar -which ' could cause fire ' was told i could not leave with my vehicle, rental was provided under my paid warranty. review of online info shows many stories out as well as lawsuit on this very odor issue- yet i was never informed. smell has been ongoing since sept. 2017
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle started to decelerate and the check engine warning indicator flashed. after approximately two minutes, the vehicle performed normally. the vehicle was taken to a ford lincoln mercury dealer in franklin, tennessee where it was diagnosed that the water pump failed and the water destroyed the engine. the engine would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified and provided case number: cas-12638580-mm4m1h9. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Throttle body suspected: 2011 ford 3.5l edge decelerating and stalling at random. vehicle stranded in middle of roadway until pushed to side of the road. turning vehicle off then back on corrects issue until the next random event. this has happened 4 times with this vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, a loud noise was heard from under the hood and near the engine. the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle did not accelerate. the failure occurred without warning. the contact stated that the vehicle could accelerate only 5 mph for half a distance, and the engine stalled. the vehicle was towed to the bowditch collision center (ford dealer) located at 975 j. clyde morris blvd, newport news, va 23601; (757) 595-2210 where it was diagnosed that the entire engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 800-392-3673 and was made aware of the failure. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not part of the recall, they will not be able to do anything and that the contact would need to pay for the repair. the manufacturer also informed the contact to call the nhtsa and a case number 12730423 was provided. the approximate failure mileage was 76,000.
Code p2111 occurs and at stop light engine appears to almost stall. while driving the stability control tuns off, low oil pressure light comes on, and check engine light comes on. problem goes away while driving after a second. at the stop light, it begins every time you come to the stop light. ford says nothing is wrong but this appears to be another throttle body issue with ford edges.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed which located the failure at the water pump that caused the fluid to leak into the engine. the dealer advised that the engine needed to replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 101,000.
While driving in 4 lane road in inside lane still moving wanting to make left turn. (awd off light) came on and (wrench icon), lucky enough to limp i did get off the right side into a parking lot. had to get towed 45 miles to garage. checked on line it seems from what i could find it may have to with failed throttle body. that is what the service man thought when i called him about it. this hazard should be a recall very dangerous..
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that driving at 60 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle stalled. the engine warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
This vehicle has an internal water (coolant) pump that failed with no warning or indications of any type. when the pump fails the engine overheats rapidly and the engine shuts down and locks up. at the time of the failure, i was driving at highway speed and was forced to pull over immediately, fortunately traffic was light, or this could have caused a serious and catastrophic accident.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while turning the vehicle with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle stalled and the check engine and power train warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart on the second attempt, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to two different dealers, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
2011 ford edge lost all power from the throttle while traveling on the interstate. pulled over to the side of the road, had a yellow wrench light, no throttle response and rough running engine. shut the vehicle off waited about 2 minutes and restarted everything was running fine. drove the edge about 10 miles on the interstate to my exit, after coming to a stop and ready to accelerate onto the highway i hit the gas and got out into the intersection and the yellow wrench light illuminated again and lost all power leaving me stranded in the middle of the intersection with traffic coming both ways. after traffic stopped and i was able to slowly move to the shoulder i shut the car down again and called a friend to come help me. after sitting for 10-20 minutes, my friend showed up and the edge restarts and was able to drive home. thankful my parents weren't driving or children weren't in the car and no accident was caused. after doing some research i've come to the conclusion that the throttle body is to blame and all the symptoms are the same. apparently this is a common problem on the edge, mustang, flex, explorer and lincoln mkx. very disappointed and dangerous! great vehicle but poor quality of electronic parts i hope and pray this never happens to someone who panics while on the interstate. vehicle will not be drove until this issue is fixed. date of incident october 9th, 2015 approximately 7:45 and 8:00-8:15. mileage approximately 105,xxx.
While driving 70 mph on the freeway the engine suddenly completely lost power with no warning what so ever. luckily we were able to safely pull to the side of the road. this issue could have ended very badly if there was more traffic at the time it happened. after searing the formums many other edge owners have reported this same issue. the throttle body appears to be the faulty part that causes the issue.
1.a wrench shaped light came on from instrument panel, and having a sudden loss of power while driving. 2.the accelerator stops working or has extremely limited power. 3.after power off the vehicle and wait for 10-15 minutes to restart the vehicle, the wrench shaped light goes away and the vehicle in drivable condition again. but the problem could happen again within a day or in few days. it is really dangerous while during in highway or in busy roads when this problem occurred. the problem happens randomly. sometimes it could happen several times in a day, sometimes it won't happen in a week. i called ford dealers and they said to diagnostic it for $98 and only when the symptom happens they will be able to find the real cause. i searched online and it's a very common problem to 2010 -2013 ford edge owners.
I purchased the certified used edge in october of 2013. i have a major problem with the vehicle it has lost all power on me twice in the last month. once while sitting idle and just tonight while driving 65 mph on the highway. the wrench light came on and i had just enough time to put my hazard lights on to alert the vehicle approaching my vehicle. it took several minutes for me to get to the side of the highway as i was in the middle lane. i called for aaa to have the vehicle towed home. while waiting i turned the vehicle off. just as the tow truck arrived i turned the vehicle back on and the wrench symbol was gone. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle so i still had it towed. i will be taking it to the shop on monday morning. hopefully they can find and fix the issue. this seems to be a very dangerous issue. i could have been rear ended or killed in a horrible accident. i have been searching online to see if this is a common problem and it seems as if many ford edge owners have experienced this problem. then i checked for a recall and cannot seem to find one. i would hate for someone to be seriously injured before this problem is solved or dealt with by ford motors.
While driving car just shuts off, cannot accelerate . wrench light comes on. i have researched this and numerous fords have same issue. they all come back with throttle body replacement. i called ford motor company to ask about issue and to see if any recalls are out. no was the answer. how can there be no recalls when there are hundreds (probably thousands) having this problem. ford escape, explorer and some trucks did have a recall....why not the edge. i'm am about to put out over 600 dollars to get this problem fixed. i believe ford should be made to issue a recall and stand behind their product. i'm just grateful that out of the 7 or 8 times this happened that nobody was hurt or worse make ford stand behind their cars...[xxx] it i'm sick of putting out thousands and getting crap in return. ps. down below when you asked when this happened....there are several dates not just one. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
When driving in certain days especially after the car has been sitting over the weekend you can smell exhaust fumes in the cabin
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving 35 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the engine stalled and the check engine light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body control failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
While driving, the vehicles engine will shut off without any kind of warning. the "awd light" will come on and the "wrench light" will start flashing the vehicle will start to shake and vibrate. this has happened 3 times now in the past 3 months. once in early april 2016 and again on 6/24/16, and the next day (today) on 6/25/16. all times the road was dry and temps were between 70-80 degrees. each time the vehicle was traveling at approx. 55 mph in traffic on roads without a shoulder. once safely pulled over the start button (keyless start) is turned off and after the vehicle sits for minute it is able to started again without the lights coming on. i have researched this issue on-line and there are many, many complaints about this happening on highways where accidents have been narrowly avoided. traveling in heavy traffic at high speeds when this happens could be a disaster waiting to happen. please force ford to issue a recall before someone dies due to this issue.
While driving down the highway, my 2011 ford edge lost all acceleration and the awd warning light came on with the lighted symbol of a wrench. i was almost rear ended by several cars before i could make it side of road. i had to shut vehicle completely down and restart. this problem continued for several more times. ford needs to address this problem before several people get killed.
Saturday june 4, i was driving along city street at 50kph, when the vehicle lost power, the wrench and "awd off" illuminated. it was still running, limping along at 5kph max. put on flashers and pulled to side of the road, put transmission into neutral and tried rev'ing the engine, no response, but engine was still running. googled the problem, which suggested turning the vehicle off and on. looks like everything reset and vehicle operated normally. several hours later, i was on major (4 lane) city street, travelling at 80kph, when same problem occurred. put on flashers and coasted to side of the road, turned vehicle of/on, and continued to home. dealer could not duplicate and diagnose the problem. i suggesting they dig further and maybe check the internet.....throttle body might be the problem. the vehicle has 80,000 km and is out of extended warranty by 6 months. after 3 days in the shop, the dealer technician suggested maybe the throttle body. i'm currently waiting on dealer to receive part. i called ford customer care and they are providing a rental, and are expediting the part as well as offering a reduced cost. this is a serious safety issue and needs to be documented.
Driving down the interstate at 60mph the car displays a wrench-shaped light in the instrument cluster and goes into "limp home mode," very dangerous as your driving in rush hour traffic. i had cars flying past me in both the fast lane and slow lanes that would not let me over to get to the far right. this was probably one of the scariest things i had ever experienced! going from 60 to less than 5 mph in a blip second with no warning. i was able to get to the side of the road, and shut the vehicle off and restart it and everything seemed okay. went home to do research and everything pointed to the throttle body there are hundreds of posts from ford edge owners with this exact same issue ford was forced to recall other models but for some reason the edge was not included, we cleaned the throttle body with throttle body cleaner, however it really did not look very bad. after cleaning the throttle body, i drove the vehicle for a test and did not get more than 5 miles and the same issue occurred this time i was ready and only going 40, however i was on the back road with no where to pull over. i had to shut the car off in middle of the road and restart it, however that time i put the code scanner in before restarting the vehicle. one code was picked up 'p2111" - throttle body failure. i can not believe ford has not recalled the edge's for this issue, there are several hundred complaints on this site all for the same issue. i currently am unable to drive the car because it won't go more than 5 miles at a time when the wrench shows up as well as a safety issue with the inability to accelerate. called ford on 6/7/2016 to order a new throttle body. ford indicated that there is a backorder on this part they currently have 7000 people on the waiting list. first expected to ship 6/30/2016.
Car has stalled two times, one time was while driving and turning into oncoming traffic. the car was going full speed 55mph , had no issues leading up to it, i slowed down to run and it completely shut down - no power steering, no acceleration it was dead, the engine was off but the car was still on. obviously this was a horrible time for it to die. i was able to, barely, make the turn without power steering and pull over. i shut the car off, turned it back on and it was fine. the other time it happened was my 16 year old daughter had just started the car, put it in reverse, again the car on but nothing was happening. the issue i have here is judging by the online posts this is happening to a lot of ford suv's but because this isn't a recall the service people have to see it actually happening, so it never can get fixed, because it is very intermittent. i am very disappointed in ford and not issuing a recall, putting lives in danger - i will be selling all of our fords ( we have 3).
The car stops working when you're driving it then have to pull over the side of the road and to the 4 wheel drive light comes on and the wrench light comes on and from what i'm reading it's a throttle body problem
While driving, the awd turned off & the engine stalled. a wrench light and engine light came on. i took it to a dealer and they advised it was the throttle body. the first occurence, i was advised to ignore it. the second occurence i asked it to be fixed & was told the part was back ordered approximately 6 weeks. there have been multiple instances since then where the car has died while driving, or sometimes while stopped at a light.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. when the vehicle was started, the front driver side door warning indicator remained illuminated. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v516000 (latches/locks/linkages). also, while driving various speeds, the vehicle hesitated and a loud sound was heard. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 51,000.
When driving, the wrench icon came on and the car lost all acceleration. power was lost and the gas pedal would not work at all! there was no limp mode, no acceleration at a reduced speed. this was/is extremely dangerous! it happened to me 7 times within a couple of months. i was fortunate to be driving in a suburban community where i could pull over to the shoulder. when i turned the car off and restarted it, it worked fine. the ford dealer could not find a problem because there was no code when they checked. i just took it in again because the service engine light also came on, and they have said it is the throttle body.
