Problems with 2011 Ford Edge ENGINE

On average, the 2011 Ford Edge starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 61 984 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2011 Ford Edge

Was driving in busy residential area and the car started to shudder and eventually lost all power to the engine and the dashboard displayed a wrench symbol. it seemed like it was going to stall. i was able to get to the side of the road. i then turned the engine off and upon restarting was able to drive the short distance to the dealer. the dealer performed a pcm reprogram. per the diagnostic notes, after getting a code of p260f they reprogrammed the car to the latest calibration, test drove it (approx 9 miles) and no sign of the problem. i picked the car up on friday, sept 5. today, sept 7, 2014, just 2 days after "fixing" the problem, the exact same thing happened. similar speed, car started to shake and unresponsive to accelerator. fortunately, i was at nearly the same location so i was able to get to the side of the road without incident. after researching the issue, this appears to a pretty common problem in the ford edge owner community. however, if this issue were to happen while driving on a freeway, the outcome might be very different. hoping someone can help with this issue. i no longer feel safe driving this car. *tr

When driving my ford edge down the highway, it suddenly loses power and have to pull off road. has happened 3x so took to dealership and they want $900 to fix! really can't believe a throttle body goes out after 3 years. *tr

I had just purchased my 2011 ford edge sel driving it for the first time after driving it home. i was driving on a two lane hwy when i lost power, a warning came up on the dash awd off with the little tool beside it. i had to coast off to the side of the road and thankfully there was a place to pull over. i waited a few minutes then restarted the car and it drove fine until 1 week later while i was driving on the interstate it did the exact same thing, the car shut down again. i did make it to the side of the road this time it did not want to start so i waited alittle longer and tried again and it did start back up. i pulled out and less than 1/2 mile down the road it shut down again. i managed to get it to the side of the road turned everything off restarted it again. all of this happened at night with just me and my son, we were scared to death . i did make it home that night. i called the dealership where i purchased the car and was told that they couldn't see me until 1 week and 2 days later. i took it to the dealerships service dept today and was told that they can't help me with my car since it is a ford and they are a chevy dealer and i need to take it to their ford dealership. i should have been told this before i drove an unsafe car 45 minuted down the road. after complaining to the salesman who sold me the car , they are going to take it to the ford service dept for me (its 3hrs from my house) but that is not until next week. i am stuck with an unsafe car to drive that i just purchased and haven't even made the first payment . *tr

While driving my 2011 ford edge with 59k miles the engine cut out on me. after pulling to the shoulder and shutting off the car it restarted after a few minutes. this happened on 3 different occasions before i was able to take it to the dealer. after two days they were able to tell me it was a faulty throttle body and not covered under the warranty. how can there be recalls for other ford models with the same problem but not for the edge? ridiculous and completely unsafe!!!! *tr

The car lost power. when i turned it off and turned it back on, it started and ran fine. it happened again and i took it to the local ford dealership. the quick service technician said it sounded like the throttle body. it has happened a couple of other times sporadically. it happened 4 times this past saturday. i took it to the dealership and just found out it was the throttle body, which will be replaced for $622.59. my car is no longer under warranty and there are no recalls for this that the dealership can find. though repair pal indicates there was a recall (https://repairpal.com/ford-edge-recall-10v659000) and the north carolina consumer council has filed a petition for an investigation into this matter. please investigate this as it is extremely dangerous for your car to just completely shut down on you while you are driving. fortunately, no one has been hurt any of the times this has happened to me. had i been on the interstate, i am not sure i could say the same. *tr

Base model: in first week of august 2014, it experienced sudden loss of speed and severe vibration while driving on major thouroughfare street. it was unable to be driven and could not be moved out of the way. the "wrench" sign came up. after turning it off and waiting for about a 2-3 mins, it did start like normal. we brought to the dealership the same day. first we were told that it just needs computer reset and would cost $75, then they ultimately did it for free, while performing 30k miles services same day. three month later i started experiencing the same issue again. i called the dealership and was told to bring it in. i did not have time for about a week due to tight work schedule, but during that week it kept occurring again, happened 3-4 times. finally when it went for service at the dealership, they told me that it is throttle issue and quoted me about $800 to fix it. upon further inquiring with technician, he told that this is not an uncommon issue on ford vehicles. ford escape and fusion have been recalled to fix it under extended warranty for the similar problem, but ford edge has not been still covered for this issues. there is a fundamental problem with how ford has been handling the issue for the edge. what i have found that ford has not allowing / giving out service center to use the code to explore the black box right away if this issue comes up which leads to delay in finding out what exactly is wrong with it. this is very dangerous situation. if you are driving on major interstate or making a turn, sudden deceleration and stalling could be life threatening for the all passengers in the car. nhtsa has dropped the ball by not forcing ford to recall ford edge and have just enforced customer satisfaction program instead of recall. i hope the nhtsa does not wait till the fatalities are reported. ( car is under my wife's name). *tr

When driving on a 2 lane mountain road at 60, engine fully warmed up (running for 20+ minutes, ambient temperature approx 85 f) the throttle become unresponsive and the engine rpm dropped to approximately 600 rpm based on the dash tachometer. when this happened a yellow wrench dialog was displayed on the digital dash with no text other than "ok". all controls other than the throttle seemed to function correctly. we were going downhill when this happened and were able to coast until we found a suitable place to pull over. once we pulled over we noticed the engine was running rough and sputtering. we turned the engine off and then back on and the issue persisted (rough idling and no throttle control). opened hood and pulled engine cover to check for any visible issues, none found. when we got back into the car the throttle was functioning properly and the idle was smooth with no sputtering. we finished the rest of the drive without incident and when we got back to the house hooked up the obdii reader and no fault codes were stored. we took the edge in to the nearest ford dealer (lawley's team ford in silver city, nm) the next morning and they found no fault codes stored in any module and charged us $122.25 for the diagnostics even though the car is still covered under the factory power train warranty. they said they didn't know what caused the issue but said it may have been a "random glitch" or "bad fuel". thankfully, this happened on a lightly traveled road and we were heading downhill and able to coast and find a place to pull off the road. if this were a busy road or we were not able to pull completely off the road this could have been a much more serious issue. we have only owned the vehicle for less than a month so we can't say whether it has happened before that. it has not occurred in the 1000+ miles we have put on the car since it occurred. *tr

Driving on major highway, 55 mph, all of a sudden the car jerks, slows down and i cannot control the acceleration. i have to quickly pull over onto grassy area out of the way of traffic. the awd signal came on and a wrench signal. i quickly turned car off and restarted and it was fine. this happened over a month ago and did not happen again until yesterday and then again this morning. all 3 times my 2 year old has been with me and i have been on a major highway. this could have had dire consequences. the car slows down so quickly that if anyone was closely behind me they certainly would have rear-ended me. looking online this seems to be quite the issue, yet there has been no recall?? this is unacceptable! *tr

I am a 55 year old woman and july 27, 2014 headed for st. louis to the airport. about 35 minutes into my trip, on a very rural missouri highway, my car had no power accelerating and the "wrench light" came on. luckily, a church parking lot was near, so i coasted there and shut off the car. i started it, it was running ok and the light went off. i made the rest of my trip. when i got back home, i left the next day on august 6th to head to aurora, mo to help my daughter. about 1 1/2 hours into my trip, the car did exactly the same thing. no power, wrench light on. i was so nervous since i was on interstate 44 with heavy traffic. i got off the interstate and restarted the car and made it to aurora. i took my car to the ford dealer there. they checked it and stated no codes came up so they couldn't do anything. i called hutcheson ford in st. james (where i purchased edge) and they wanted me to bring it in. july 28th, i took it to st. james with the same results. no codes, no help. i came home and had a local mechanic drive it. he did and said there was something wrong & to check the internet for common problems. i couldn't believe the number of people that had the same problem on their 2011 edge and stated it was throttle body. i drive a lot by myself on roads with no shoulder so i had to have it taken care of. today i just picked up the edge with a new throttle body of $710. *tr

Coming off of lakeshore drive with my 4 month old son in the back car seat and the truck just goes limp with no power. it drove really slow and so i pulled off to the side turned off the truck restarted and seemed fine. there were cars coming up behind me thank goodness no accident. made it to my sons doctor appointment and quickly called the dealership and the service guy said he has heard nothing with the ford edge and doesn't know what the wrench meant. he said i need to bring it in and i will be charged $125 just to look at it. i asked if it was safe to drive back with my son and he just said i don't know. so i asked why would the handbook say to contact the dealership immediately? apparently this seems to be an issue with this and needs to be fixed. i have two small children and do not want something serious to happen for something that is obviously a defect! *tr

My wife was driving home from work during rush hour and twice on the same trip the engine shuttered then completely shut down. the first time, luckily, she was able to coast across four lanes of traffic to the shoulder because this happened where two interstates merge and the is not a shoulder on the left. we took the car to the dealership and they replaced the throttle body. the dealer stated it was a known problem and has been recalled on other models but not the edge. i called ford customer service and i got the impression they did not care about the issue or the safety of the people driving their vehicles. because of this we traded our vehicle at a loss within a week of spending $700 to replace the throttle body. *tr

In the middle of driving normally the engine slows rpm almost to a stall then would not do any thing when the gas pedal was pressed. after pulling over i shut off the car and turned it back on and it drove fine for about 20 miles. then while slowing down to a redlight it did the same thing. so i turned it off and on and it was fine again. i drove it home and now its sitting in the driveway. after looking online it seems that it is probably the throttle body. im going to replace that and see what happens. *tr

Vehicle stalls while driving it, has happened 5 times in the last 6 months, ford service can not diagnose. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the dealer stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 44,200.

While driving on the expressway, i lost power, a wrench light came on the dash and the engine chugged. i pulled off at the closest exit, fearing the car would totally stop. *tr

While driving down a 4-lane expressway, my 2011 ford edge accelerator pedal stopped responding. the car did not lose all power, the accelerator just went dead. the car was idling very roughly, but when i pressed on the accelerator pedal nothing happened. there was no shoulder on the road so i had to stop in the middle of the road! i am so lucky that no one rear-ended me before i was able to maneuver off the road. i turned off the car and waited a minute or two and turned the car back on. the accelerator was working so i headed home. the car went "limp" two more times before i arrived home a couple of miles down the road. the next day my husband followed me to the dealership with his emergency flashers on. my edge went "limp" twice on the way to the dealership. the mechanic was familiar with the problem and diagnosed a bad throttle body. it was replaced for about $650.00 and the car runs fine now. this problem is common and needs to be addressed before someone is killed! i thank my lucky stars that this didn't happen on a busy interstate. *tr

Driving 43mph, my vehicle stalled while driving. the awd off and wrench icon indicators appeared on the dashboard. i had to swerve onto the median to avoid being rear-ended. this happened again on june 16, 17, 24 & 25. this has happened at varying speeds, faster and slower than the first incident. it ended up being the throttle body, and conveniently just 4000 miles past the warranty expiration. i was told by two separate mechanics that this is something they've seen many times, and if it were one of two other ford models, it would be covered under the extended warranty plan by ford. it is the same part in all vehicles, but only covered in certain models? this faulty part is putting people's lives at risk, or at minimum putting them in unnecessary danger of an accident and resulting financial damages that follow. if it's a known issue with the part, why is this allowed to continue? and why are only certain models covered? $600 later and i don't trust that my problem is solved. *tr

I was driving when i lost acceleration. a wrench light came up on my screen. thankfully my brakes still worked and i was able to coast to a stop, almost getting rear ended by a semi, but then the whole motor started shaking and sputtering. i put my vehicle in park and turned it off. when i went to turn it back on it hesitated for a minute, but then started. this didn't happen again until a few weeks later while on the highway going 60mph! i've had it happen multiple times since then and almost being hit a few other times. i've noticed that i don't have as much power when accelerating even when the wrench doesn't come up. today it happened twice within a couple of minutes and the check engine light came on this time. i don't understand why they won't have a recall when so many people have an issue! i've almost been hit multiple times when this occurs and i would rather not have me or my child hurt from a malfunction that needs to be fixed! *tr

This is my 2nd complaint about this same defect as it has occurred 2 additional times (3 total incidents). the 1st incident occurred on 4/11. the 2nd incident occurred on 6/2 when my wife was turning right from an intersection. at approximately 20mph she lost the ability to accelerate and had to quickly change lanes and coast to the side of the road while avoiding traffic. she put the car in park and turned the vehicle off. once she turned the car back on, the car operated normally. the 3rd incident occurred on 6/3. my wife accelerated from a red light into an intersection and lost the ability to accelerate. she was stuck in the middle of a busy intersection with cars swerving around her. she again stopped her car from coasting, put it in park, and turned the car off. she restarted the car and it operated normally. i deemed her car too dangerous to drive and would not allow her to drive until repaired. i searched the internet and found the ford escape, fusion, mariner, and milan had the exact same problem the edges are having. those owners received an extended warranty for a defective throttle body. reference customer service program (csp) 13n03 and nhtsa action # pe13003. i took her car to the dealership and they could not find any error codes nor repeat the problem. he said he could not repair anything without this information. i mentioned csp 13n03 and he said he was aware of it but it didn't apply to the edge. since the problems were exactly the same, i asked if replacing the throttle body would fix the problem. he hesitated but after some prodding he said it would most likely fix the problem but he couldn't officially say so. i had them replace the throttle body on 6/6 ($698.06) and my wife has had zero problems as of 8/13, further proving it's the same defect. i hope ford steps up as they did with the other ford models and corrects this dangerous safety hazard. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled after the awd failure light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician was unable diagnosed the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 46,290.

This is now the seventh time i've lost all power while driving. the car completely shuts down, steering becomes uncontrollable and the oil pressure light comes on. i've taken to the dealership and i'm being told the car has no codes of what happened and they can't repair. i'm not sure how a computer doesn't register a low oil pressure light or how it's not hard coded somewhere in the computer system that the car just cut out at 35mph to 60 mph i have no warning that this is about to happen, i lost my steering, car shuts down, brakes do not work. ford has no idea on how to fix this. i pull over and wait a few minutes crank up and go, sometimes it does it 5 to 6 times in a row before i can get to the dealer. also, my driver's side door always keeps the door ajar light on, ford has no clue how to fix this either- the interior lights stays on the whole time also. i have taken it in several times for this also and they can't fix it. i bought this car used and it was great for one year and now it has many problems which i believe it did when i bought it. i now put 93 octane in it just to see if that helps, i have put engine cleaner in it, had all the filters changed every 3 months, nothing seems to work. i do have grandchildren and worry that an accident could happen due to this malfunction. how do i go about filing against ford for the lemon law.

During driving, the engine stopped and car would not accelerate, there was a complete loss of power. there was no warning, and the "yellow wrench" light came on, and car would not go. this was in the middle of the road and could not get off of the road. it happened so quickly, there was no time to react to try to pull over. lost steering and couldn't move anywhere. waited for 1 min or so, and restarted car. *tr

Driving on interstate highway at a speed of 55+ miles per hour and suddenly the engine just stalled and there is no power. there is (wrench) warning indicator light and a message see manual was able to steer off to the side of the road. once the engines is turned off and wait a minute or two you can restart and everything seems ok. it will go days before it happens again. took the car to local ford dealer and they claim they cannot reproduce problem, so will not fix what they cannot reproduce. *tr

My wife was driving her 2011 ford edge on the highway at 60 mph with me and another passenger when all of a sudden the car began to decelerate very quickly. my wife shouted that the vehicle would not respond when she applied the accelerator pedal. we were in full traffic as cars sped beside us and came up quickly behind us slamming on their brakes to avoid hitting us. i turned on the hazard lights and told her to try to coast over to the shoulder because the vehicle would still not respond. she had to cut off several other vehicles to make it over to the shoulder but luckily no accident occurred. when we stopped, she again tried to apply the accelerator but still no response. she put the car in park and turned off the vehicle. she waited a few seconds and started the car and put it back in drive. the car finally responded and we were able to make it home without further incident. this was a very, very scary and dangerous situation. this car is well maintained and only had 51,000 miles. when this was happening, it reminded me of the toyota incidents but instead of accelerating uncontrollably on the highway, we decelerated uncontrollably. i hope ford looks into this situation more closely. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled twice with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the contact was able to restart the vehicle both times. additionally, the vehicle would shake violently and lose power without warning. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

April 3- fifteen mins from home (returning from a vacation to gatlinburg, tn), "black screen of death" occurred. took immediately to dealership. waited 40 mins while diagnostic run and told to bring back monday, april 7, as apim was discovered to be bad. would be replaced monday. april 7- returned to dealership for apim to be replaced and told radio was going to be checked; not apim replaced. argued with staff there, as service manager had already run diagnostic to determine apim needed. had to wait another three days for apim to come in to dealership. returned april 10 for apim replacement. may 3- leaving for a 12 hour round trip to athens, ga to bring son home from college..."black screen of death" occurred 6x before getting an hour from home. occurred 4-5x more on way back from athens, ga. this happened on a saturday so had to call dealership monday. told to bring in may 8. may 8- told issue could not be duplicated. discovered through discussion w/ service personnel that my phone had never been connected w/ sync when these problems have occurred; techs had been diagnosing in a different direction. appears that radio is true issue. personnel said they would check w/ service manager about getting radio replaced. may 12- called and told that ford has said that until issue can be duplicated, nothing will be done to fix my car. if i leave car for undetermined time frame, allow to be driven long distances (adding miles to car), maybe problem can be duplicated. no rental allowed bc issue not covered under warranty. this is my only vehicle. bought $40,000 car for navigation system and cannot use properly bc it keeps going out on long trips. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and then stalled with the illumination of the wrench warning icon. the vehicle was restarted after several attempts and resumed normally however, the failure recurred five times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 25,640.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the oil warning light illuminated as the engine stalled. the failure caused another vehicle to crash into the passenger's side of the contact's vehicle. the contact did not sustain any injuries. a police report was filed of the incident. the vehicle was able to be restarted but was not able to be driven. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer, who was unable to diagnose the stalling failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 35,150.

Re: 2011 ford edge limited: on way to dealer for requested service/repair re: sudden and unexpected engine loss of power (stall - 3 episodes within 2 weeks) while underway the vehicle stalled 3 additional times. at time of stall (loss of engine power) the engine remained running; check engine light was on; "wrench" showed on dash instruments; all electrical power remained on and operating. necessary to put hazard lights on, glide to stop off road, place transmission lever in neutral then in park and turn engine off. on restart, check engine light was on. i called advantage ford dealership from road; they said ok to proceed to dealership. these incidents occurred in heavy traffic on us-1. no warning from car re: engine rumbling or other before stall. felt in danger but able to navigate safely. internet search prior to dealer visit indicated "throttle body" problem with ford escape primarily. only 1-3 complaints re: ford edge. *tr

Issue 1 of 2: on 3 separate occasions the engine has suddenly lost power, lost speed and the engine shook and ran extremely rough. there was a message with a wrench on the screen that said see owners manual, but no useful information was given. the warning message later went away with no evidence of a problem. 2 of the incidents occurred at highway speed and nearly cause severe multi-car accidents. another incident was at a lower speed of about 45 mph and did not occur on a major highway. issue 2 of 2: as a separate issue, there have been 2 occurrences of a very hash clunk from the transmission that felt as if the vehicle hit something. more information: the vehicle was purchased used at carmax with 213000 miles on it, purchase date: 01/28/2014. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 33,000.

While on an interstate highway going 65 mph. the car went limp-no power. wrench symbol and awd lights come on. after nearly getting rear ended trying to get to the berm, shut car off restarted it and it ran fine. took car to dealer where they diagnosed it as a computer issue. on 7-12-14 while on interstate going 70 mph., exact same thing happened. on 7-13-14, 7-16-14, 7-20-14 and 7-21-14 at speeds between 25 and 35 mph. this happened a total of 8 separate times. took car to ford dealer where they diagnosed it as replace throttle body and reprogram computer for total cost of $788.00. someone is going to die on a highway or making a left hand turn at an intersection if this problem is not properly addressed. *tr

Driving down the road, the vehicle suddenly lost power and the gas pedal became unresponsive. "see manual" warning light with a wrench icon came on. pulled car over, and restarted the vehicle at which time the car drove normally. took it to local dealership, where they were unable to pull the error code. continued driving vehicle and error occurred intermittently. today, occurred twice on my drive in to work (5 miles), the second time the "check engine" light came on. took vehicle to autozone, they pulled a p2111 code. having throttle body serviced tomorrow at local repair shop. the last time this happened today was in an intersection - very nearly caused an accident. this throttle body failure seems to be a common issue. i find it very curious that there has not been a recall yet as this is clearly a widespread issue and it is clearly a safety issue. *tr

Our 2011 awd ford edge is having an issue that it randomly loses acceleration and a wrench warning will show up as well as turn on awd at the same time rpm gauge will fluctuate. the car will go limp and hesitate until we stop to put in park and restart, then it will drive until the next time it occurs. *tr

My edge kept shutting down unexpectedly on different occasions but would never set of a code just tell me the awd is shutting down and would have no gas power to get off the road just hopefully i had enough speed going to coast of to the side of the road. and after shutting the car off then turn the car back on it would start and go again took it to the ford dealers to put it on their diagnostic computer and did not show up showing an unexpectedly shut down.my edge had probably done this a dozen times in the last 6months and yesterday it did it 4 times right in a row but this time it set of the engine light so i could read the code it produced which read throttle actuator locking up so i am going to replace the throttle body and see if this cures my problem. *tr

While making a turn the vehicle suddenly stalled out without warning, luckily the car coming towards me slowed in time and i was able to coast to the middle lane. check engine light appeared and also a wrench symbol. after a few minutes i restarted the car and it did turn on, i was driving without issues, when going 45 mph the vehicle shook and again stalled out. having my 1 year old son in the car was very frightening, i was terrified i would be hit by another vehicle as the edge suddenly turns off with no warning. being we live in a somewhat rural area and having my son, i was determined to make it home, which thank goodness i did safely, unfortunately after stalling out 2-3 more times. my husband took the edge to the dealership today which they claim it is the throttle body, and since we do not have the extended warranty is $800. after seeing these other posts it seems that there should be a ford recall. thankfully no one was hurt, but it can lead to a fatality if the edge stalls on the freeway or busy road, its very scary. i purchased a new car to feel safe and to have my son safe, i feel far from and i want nothing but to get rid of this vehicle. something needs to be done. vin unavailable as my car is still at the dealership. *tr

While driving the all wheel drive shuts down and you have no power. i shut the engine off and re-start. it worked for about 100 yards and did it again. it did this 7 times in less than 10 miles. it did not do it again for about 10 days. then it did it 5 times in less than 2 miles. it happens at various speeds. both in manual and automatic. this past weekend it happened another 3 times while out of town on a mini-vacation. *tr

Traveling down road. car jumps and see manual comes on. idles funny and will go no further until you shut it off and back on. took it to dealer. say they had no idea. done it 10 times yesterday in 6 miles. am fed up. going to end up in a wreck!! *tr

While driving at approx 35 mph the edge went into a basic "limp" mode, preventing any acceleration. i pulled over and shut it down, it flashed a yellow wrench and said awd off, i restarted it and the next day it happened around 55 mph, shut it down again and restarted it. the very next day it happened a total of 5 times, at various speeds, when will something be done about this? after someone gets killed? truck will be sitting in my garage and i guess we will share our other car, no way in hell am i letting my wife drive this vehicle, it will end up being a "death trap"

While driving the car the car 'stalled' meaning i had no ability to accelerate the car, all other items worked ok, an amber wrench light came on, i pulled over, restarted the car and it worked fine. it happened again 3 days later approx the same speed. seeming this has been an issue among other ford edge cars. *tr

On three different occasions my ford edge lost power to acceleration and stalled out. the first time i was pulling out of a parking space. the car went limp and a wrench warning appeared. when i checked the information system it had the 'no key detected' warning. i restarted and car seemed fine. two days later i was pulling onto a busy street and the same thing occurred only this time no warning lights appeared and there were no warnings in the information setting. on the same day, while traveling 60 mph on the interstate the car did the same thing. this time it was in heavy traffic and there was not a shoulder available to pull over. i had to turn on hazard lights and hope the momentum of the car would allow me to get to a safe stopping place. unfortunately it did not and i had to stop in the middle of the interstate, put the car in park and restart. i was lucky i wasn't rearended. it did restart but this time the service engine soon light came on and remained on. i called roadside assistance and had the car taken to a dealership. they have determined it to be the throttle body. part is on back order and no idea when car will be fixed. after the third incident i began researching and have learned that this is an ongoing problem. ford needs to do something about this as someone is going to be seriously hurt or killed. they are aware of the issue and have even replaced the manufacturer who provided the throttle body part due to numerous problems. ford needs to issue a recall immediately if not, at the very least owners of these vehicles need to be informed of the issue and if they experience similar problems should be told to immediately contact their dealer. i have reported the issue to ford and they have opened a case. i recommend that all who have had problems do the same. the more complaints, the harder it is to ignore! *tr

Travel on interstate highway in middle of three lanes at 75mph. power to engine ceased. engine would not respond to accelerator. coasted across right lane of heavy traffic to get to right shoulder. coasted to stop. *tr

While driving at highway speeds twice, and 45 mph once, the engine completely stalled and would not accelerate. the warning "wrench" light illuminated with each occurrence. car had to be coasted to a complete stop, turned off and then restarted. it was taken to dealership on each occurrence and i was told without a "service engine soon" light or with the "wrench" light illuminated there was nothing they could do. the car cannot be driven once it stalls so there is no way it can be driven to the dealership with this error displayed and once it is turned off this warning will not display once restarted. our service department knows exactly that this is a throttle body problem but they are not authorized to replace it without this error documented through the computer diagnostics. my description is not enough. sent away with a potentially hazardous and malfunctioning vehicle still under warranty. in contact with regional manager who should get back to me within 48 hours. *tr

My husband was driving; we were on a trip. the speed dropped from about 50 to a crawl; no acceleration. he pulled over and i pulled out the owner's manual. the info said there was a problem with the powertrain and the car would be in limp mode. my husband turned off ignition and restarted. it was okay for another couple of miles then happened again. again he turned it off and restarted. the third time it happened, we pulled over and called ford. luckily there was a dealership close by. however, when we talked to them, they said they'd have to do a diagnostic. we didn't leave the car. we didn't have another problem until july 25, 2013. it happened again twice while i was driving. the car is now at the dealers being checked out for the problem. first impression, it's the throttle. *tr

Driving down the street and vehicle acts like it is running out of gas or vapor locking. accelerator all the way down and vehicle slowing down to a stop. wrench light comes on vehicle and take to ford dealership for repair. i feel like this should be covered under warranty due to the fact that several other throttles have reported going out on this year model. *tr

Vehicle inadvertently goes into limp mode for no apparent reason. all service has been performed as recommended. it has happened on the interstate, downtown traffic and pulling into streets with on coming traffic. extremely dangerous in heavy traffic situations. i have al most been hit several times. it will go for several hundred miles with no problem, then it will begin stalling and do it multiple times within 1/4 mile of each other. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that while driving downhill approximately 55 mph, the engine stalled with a warning symbol alert displayed on the instrument panel. the vehicle was coasted off of the roadway and into a grassy area. the engine was restarted after five minutes and resumed normally. the failure recurred on a separate occasion. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis however, the technician was unable to locate the problem. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the failure mileage and vin were unavailable.

As i was leaving work and pulled out of the parking lot onto the main road and my car stalled after reaching approx 10-15 mph indicating me to "see manual" with a wrench on the screen then flashing "check engine oil pressure". as i came to a complete stop my edge began to shake violently and the rpm's began to jump up and down frantically. i then turned my edge off for 30 seconds. when i restarted it, it started without issue and idled fine. i was able to back it up and drive it under 10 mph to park it over night. the following day (today) when i went to take it to the dealership the same thing happened except this time around only the "see manual" indicator flashed and i had to have it towed to the local ford dealership for servicing. still no word on what it could possibly be. i checked the oil level, it was normal and have been having it serviced every 3,000 miles. *tr

Traveling on interstate highway the engine shut down and a wrench warning symbol appeared on dash board. turned off car and restarted all cleared. took to dealer and they could find nothing on computer. happen again on trip to florida and twice more back at home. dealer again check and said could find nothing. there is definitely something going wrong and it a serious hazard when you are traveling at interstate speed and the car engine, power steering, and brakes stop working. car goes into creep mode until you stop turn off engine and restart. *tr

I had been having on-going issues with engine surging, stalling and gear "skipping" since i first purchased the vehicle in december 2010, which i had reported to the dealership and about which i was in the midst of lemon law proceedings under ga lemon law. they are best described as similar in nature to those reported in the nhtsa investigation here: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2013/02/25/probe-ford-cars-suvs-stalling/1945799/ at times, the engine would cut out at high speeds and i'd be stuck in "limp mode". other times the transmission would slip, then surge, making it feel as if i were hit from behind by another vehicle. still other times, it might stall out at slow speeds (i.e. while making a turn, etc.), leaving me stuck in an intersection and vulnerable to being hit by oncoming traffic. ford had attempted multiple times to fix this problem, but it kept recurring, even after many parts were rebuilt or replaced. finally, the unresolved issue culminated in an accident on 11/26/12. i was coming off on a highway exist ramp and the engine "skipped" and surged, propelling me into the rear of the car in front of me. no one was treated for injury at the time of the crash, but the driver of the other car did report injury after the crash. my issue is still unresolved by ford. they claim they can't duplicate the issue and have made no attempts to get me out of this vehicle, which i am stuck driving until i can complete the lengthy lemon law process. i fear for my life every day that i have to drive it and am afraid to transport my children in it. thank you for the opportunity to submit my claim. *tr
