We have classified the 630 complaints from 2011 Ford Edge about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Last week i reported a fire that destroyed my car only seconds after i saw smoke and got out. after reading all the 'door ajar' complaints i wanted to add that i too had a problem with the "door ajar" warning happening over the last 6 months or so. it wasn't continuous, sometimes when i slammed the door really hard it would go off, but when leaving the car at night in the driveway sometimes i'd have to slam the door many times for the lights on the car to go off. i found that if the door ajar warning would not go on when i started it up to drive, if i pushed the "ok" control on the steering wheel the ceiling light would go off, but the door ajar red lighted symbol on the dash would stay on. since the fire in my car was deemed caused by an electrical source by the fire chief, i wonder if this electrical/sensor issue could have anything to do with it. i'm shopping for a new car now, and i just found the same "door ajar" problems on the 2012 - 2014 models of the edge. has anyone looked into the risk of fire from this issue? it seems a problem like this going on for years in the ford edge should be a recall and consumers should not have to foot the bill for this problem. when does the government enforce a recall on a part that continues to fail? the complaints on the nhtsb page can only be a small percentage of the actual problems, since most people don't know about the nhtsb or this page to submit a complaint. *tr
While driving less than 5 mph in my driveway and turning to park, i noticed a thin stream of smoke coming from under the hood on the driver's side, about 3/4 way up the hood toward the windshield . i stopped, turned the car off and got out. within seconds the car was filled with white smoke and the same white smoke started pouring out all sides of the hood and the front grill, fire was dropping from the engine onto the ground, and within about 30 seconds the front of the car went up in flames that were shooting 10-20 feet into the air. 2 minutes of exiting the car it was fully engulfed with 20-30 ft flames and thick smoke the fire department arrived in about 5 minutes and put the fire out. the car was completely destroyed. i notified ford of the incident and they advised there were no recalls or similar problems with other edges. i have photos of the destroyed car the day after and also still have the car if there's any reason to inspect it. *tr
Ford needs to recall the door latch & ajar switch assembly. this is the second time this assembly has failed and i know numerous others with fords with same assembly that has failed in other models. when they go bad you don't know if the door is shut or open, the interior lights won't go out (thus drawing on the battery), and you can't trust the sensor to know if the door is shut and locked or not. it is a bad design from the start with this part. if they don't want to recall every car and replace, then they need to offer an unlimited warranty that they will fix for free if/when it does fail (and need to reimburse people that have already had it fixed). *tr
Defective sensor in drivers door latch. doors won't lock while car is in motion and interior lights stay on while car is driven or after it is parked. *tr
The left rear door ajar light comes on and does not go off even when the door is shut. also, the interior lights stay on for up to an hour after parking the car, and for 3-5 minutes after starting the car. this is extremely dangerous when driving at night. it has also killed a battery already.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. while all of the doors were closed, the front driver side door ajar warning light illuminated. in addition, the interior lighting remained illuminated. the failures recurred continuously. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 22,000.
The driver side door latch not working properly indicates the door is opened when it is closed. there for the dome light stays on till the car reaches 20 miles per hour or about a city block witch makes it hard to drive and cover the dome light at night so u can see out the windshield so not to be blinded by the light .
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. after closing the front driver side door, the door ajar sensor illuminated when the door was secured. during the failure, the interior lights remained on while driving the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000.
Dolor on driver side dont clase by beeper and alarm wont set. afraid is damaged door look mecanism. alredy changed 2 times before with warranty now expired. alarm activated when door open cant drive car. *tr
<<i purchased this car on 3/31/15, so this may have been occurring prior to purchase, but this is the first time it happened to me.>> when closing the driver's door, i get a "door ajar" message, even though the door is fully shut. i can get the message to go off if i slam the door repeatedly, but sometimes it takes two or three slams to get it to go off. this can be a serious safety issue when i'm not able to get the message to go off. if it occurs at night, i have to drive with the interior lights in the car on. i'm also concerned about the driver's air bags being able to deploy in an accident, if the sensor thinks the door is open. this problem really warrants a recall to address this issue. *tr
Door ajar warning light on dash does not go out. also, twin interior lights do not go out. this draws down battery when parked and is a safety issue when driving at night. fix from ford dealership is $400+. this is ridiculous, and seems to be a systemic problem. i saw on line repairs of how to fix going back to 1998 ford model from windstars, to rangers, to edges - all models years, all with the same problem. ford has not bothered to fix this problem for years!..3-days ago, i took my 2013 ford taurus to the ford dealership in lancaster, sc for a safety recall to fix defective door latches, and a separate recall check on lights on the license plate for possible moisture leakage. so, i got a safety recall on possibly failed seal on license plate lights, but no recall on an issue with the lights on in the vehicle cab while driving at night??? it makes one wonder who make these decisions about what is a safety issue. is it done solely on the basis of what is cheap and expeditious? if the fix is cheap, recall it and if the fix is a bit more costly, do nothing and let the manufacturer make money off the fix. how can drivers be protected? how can consumers be protected? i hope you can help. thank you. Door ajar light comes on all the time and prevents doors from locking also interior light stays on.
My safety issue is with my ford edge 2011 door ajar sensor. it's gotten worse in the past couple of months. the doors stay unlock, dash board warning display keeps popping up, door display stays lit and the interior light stays on which is hazardous at night. ford has had this problem with many of it's vehicles for a long time but does not seem to be very interested in fixing it or recalling. i called ford customer service division and spoke to angela keevis (regional customer service manager) to have ford handle this issue as a re-call b/c many of the edge models are having this issue. she confirmed that there are no recalls at this time and that ford will not be able to help out to reimburse the cost of the fix either and she was sorry at this time. the only thing she told me is to put my complain online. the only thing that they could do is call you back after you had setup an appointment with your dealer to have it fixed and to make sure it all went well. i do hope ford will take this issue serious and have a recall done b/c this issue could occur at any time. again safety issues are doors being unlocked while driving and interior lights stays on and it could be hazardous when trying to drive at night. does ford need to have a fatal accident before they could recall a known issue????????
I started getting a message driver's door ajar even though the door was closed. this did not allow the car to lock properly (two beeps instead of one beep). also, the interior light did not go out. this is now occurring when i get into the car and try to drive off. this doesn't happen every time, however is now happening more and more often. sometimes you can lock and unlock the door lock several times and the message will go out and the interior light will go off. sometimes the only way it will go out is by slamming the door. i have read several others that are having the same issue. it seems to me this should be something that should have a recall if so many customers with different ford/mercury vehicles are experiencing. i have an appointment to have the dealer look at my car tomorrow. i can't continue driving it with these hazards.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar warning light and dome light illuminated continuously. the contact mentioned that the doors failed to lock while the vehicle was in motion. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Our ford edge gives us the door ajar notification upon putting the car in drive and at random times when driving. the doors are all closed when this happens. the overhead lights come on and will not turn off as long as the door ajar warning is on. sometimes, the problem can be corrected by slamming the driver door a few times. other times their seems to be no remedy. other than being extremely annoying, we believe this to be a serious safety issue. the overhead lights make it difficult to see out of our vehicle at night, and if there ever really was a door ajar, we wouldn't know. *tr
A right front door ajar warning is reported by the vehicle, but the door is completely shut - have to slam door multiple times to get warning to go off - overhead lights will randomly come as a result which affects your ability to see traffic at night - this problem is still on going on a daily basis - the reported cost of repair is $300 to $500 for a problem that should not be happening.
The driver door ajar alert would not go off and neither would the interior lights even though the door was shut. the lights would stay on while driving and the doors would not lock once i started driving either since it was saying the driver door was open. i'm waiting for the batter to just die since my interior lights stay on for a long time after i shut and lock my doors because the driver door ajar alert never goes off. i've called multiple dealerships and they won't cover it because there is no recall on it. there needs to be a recall on this issue because i don't know if my door is every really shut, my interior lights will only go off after i've been driving for a few minutes and the doors won't even lock right!
Front driver side door senor is not recognizing that the door is closed. it takes numerous attempt in order for the door to be recognized by the electrical system that it is close. this is a huge inconvenience and draws a lot of unnecessary attention. in asking around, i know several other ford edge who have encountered this issue as well, i firmly believe this to be a defect. *tr
The "door ajar" message comes on when the driver's side door is completely closed. i cannot lock the doors when this message is displayed. this is a very serious safety feature, occupants of the vehicle could be subject to a car jacking etc.. also, the interior light stays on when the message is displayed causing my battery to drain, i had to purchase a new one $102 which i should be reimbursed for. there should be a recall on this problem considering the driver and occupants safety is compromised.
Door ajar warning on dashboard: the dashboard says " door is ajar" on the driver side even if all doors are locked and that made the alarm sound telling me that the door is open. the dome light is continuously on. if the car key is in the ignition, i can't manually lock the doors it stays in up position. all these problems are either the car is in motion or stationary.
I was driving vehicle up a slight grade at 30mph. engine power suddenly dropped to an idle rpm. it felt like it was running on 1 cylinder and very rough. i was able to "creep" the car to the side of road. pressing on the accelerator in neutral or drive had no effect. a "wrench" warning icon appeared on the indicator panel. shutting off and restarting the car allowed us to drive home. this occurred two times within 2 miles. the car will be taken to the dealer today for repairs. this same scenario (less than 270 miles prior) occurred as my wife accelerated away from our home 3 weeks prior. the owners manual indicated it was an awd issue. my car does not have that feature.the car was taken to the dealer who indicated it was a transmission problem covered by a service bulletin and reprogrammed the transmission computer. prior to these engine incidents the car had acted odd when shifting, as though it popped in and out of gear. this is a safety concern and so far we have been lucky because it happened each time in low traffic conditions. *tr
The rear driver's side door has a bad sensor. it does not recognize the door as being closed unless the door is opened/closed numerous times, sometimes it will not ever recognize the closure. *tr
The vehicle has a electrical issue, the door ajar sensor does not work correctly. when the driver side door is closed the warning panel is still showing the door is open, and the dome lights will not shut off. *tr
Tl* the contact owned a 2011 ford edge. while driving approximately 5 mph into the driveway, there was smoke and flames erupting underneath the hood. in addition, there was smoke in the cabin. the fire department extinguished the fire. a police and a fire report were filed. the vehicle was destroyed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000. ...updated 04/08/15 *bf
Door ajar warning light comes on every time we get into the vehicle and never goes off no matter how many times we close the door. doors do not lock as car begins to move. dome lights stay on for extended period when we start driving and after we have parked the car at end of trip. back up camera doesn't function some of the time, and it never functions completely as it should. car horn goes off at random times while car is parked with no one near it. it is a random sounding honking, not the consistent honk it makes when the panic button is pushed. radio sometimes will not turn on, and sometimes when radio is on while driving, it won't turn off, even after car is turned off, key is taken out, we get out of car and lock it. syncing system doesn't work right. phone calls disconnect randomly. battery warning light comes on sometimes when we turn car on; and dash display is delayed or doesn't come on. we have not had the car stall or start a fire as yet, but are afraid that may come next, as we have ready the many complaints about the 2011 ford edge problems and have found so many people have documented these exact complaints we have listed, and others have had the very dangerous stalling or burning problem. how we hope these problems will be investigated and ford will be forced to fix these dangerous problems before someone is injured or killed because of them. how can ford not have addressed it yet?! *tr
Door ajar light comes on. door is shut tight. doom lights stay on for awhile and doors can not be locked when car is running. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar light continued to illuminate after the door was securely closed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed an unknown sensor in the door failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 24,000. updated 4/16/15*cn the consumer stated the door ajar light illuminated on the dash and would not go out, the interior overhead light also stayed on and the doors would not lock while driving. updated 04/21/15*jb
Drivers side door will not latch. door ajar light stays on and dome lights will not go off, even when car is locked.
While driving i had a message on my dash board that my driver side door was open. all the interior lights comes on and will not go off. i checked and all doors were closed and secure. this malfunction still up today and happens daily day an night time. during night is a safety issue because you can not see due to lights being on. *tr
The locks on all four doors of the vehicle no longer lock on their own when put into drive. when locked with the remote key they unlock about 3 seconds afterwards. they only way to keep the doors locked is to use the key pad on the vehicle or lock them from the inside. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford edge. the contact stated that the door ajar indicator remained illuminated after the doors were closed. as a result, the interior lighting remained illuminated and the automatic locks malfunctioned while driving. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but no diagnostic testing was performed. no repairs were made to the vehicle. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 55,299.
You shut the door and it still tells you that its open. the interior light then stays on making it hard to see at night and the doors want lock. *tr
Door ajar warning. doors do not lock automatically nor will they lock with lock control on door or when in motion. only possible way to lock doors is the remote on the key when car is stopped. *tr
Driver door adjar notification won't go off even though all doors are closed. this prevents doors from locking while driving causing safety hazard. also causes the interior lights stay on while driving causing safety hazard at night. sometimes interior lights won't go off at all even after the car has been turned off for hours.
Driver door ajar notification stays on despite door being securely shut. vehicle doors will not lock once car starts and must lock manually after turning engine off, locking, and restarting vehicle. can not use keyless entry to lock from outside. can not lock from door if vehicle running, as the locks will automatically unlock afterwards. interior light stays on when in reverse and complicates ability to back up at night while trying to visualize objects/pedestrians that may be behind vehicle.
The driver's side door sensor is not reading that the door is closed and remains on. this is the second time in a year that i am going to have the sensor replaced. *tr
Although the doors are closed on my 2011 ford edge the "driver's door open" warning appears on dashboard. interior lights stay on. doors will not lock from the inside, making things dangerous in the event of a car-jacking. ford claims this is not covered under the warranty and wants a lot of money to fix the problem, which we have discovered is widespread. it is an inherent fault with the ford edge irrespective of year. *tr
The driver door ajar light is on and the doors will not lock. at the current time, this is intermittent but online research says many similar cars have the same problem beginning at about 41,000 miles. why is this a safety issue? the main reason is carjacking! also you can not lock all four doors and tail gate at the same time. to manually lock all door from the inside by the driver alone is nearly impossible for us older folks. i had nearly been a victim 50 years ago, only to have prevented it, by manually locking my door every time i entered. the man was unable to open the door and i was able to drive off with him holding the door handle until he let go!. also the edge doors will not auto lock when you reach the speed of about 9 mph with the door ajar light on. *tr

Need someone to know about this craziness. days after a full detailing and replaced battery that the dealer said needed replacing, got the blind spot and cross traffic warning faults, at first occasionally, then within a week every time the car was driven. soon the navigation indicated a fault as well. a few days later, in the morning for school drop off, each of these faults alerted, then the heat started blasting. turned the climate control to off and still blasting - hot. got to the school to let the child out and the powered door locks weren't working. thankfully there was a knob to manually pull up because i couldn't let him out of the car. went straight to dealer with heat still blasting, they "reset" something and it seemed better. then it all started again the next day. sometimes door locks worked, sometimes not. sometimes heat would blast, sometimes cool would blast, all with climate control off. additional fault started for front collision warning. dealer again, couldn't really figure it out (never connected it to new battery, incorrect installation, or something in detailing), but then needed to order a part. back when part came in, took two days (had to get rental car - fortunately covered by extended warranty) because they couldn't figure it out. reported finding some "singed wires" under the dash. very scary experience - like the car was possessed. need to know i can trust my car to do what i expect, especially since the car was far from cheap and had all the bells and whistles. so far so good with fix, except drivers door dings when opened with the car off (didn't used to) as if they key is in the ignition, but there is no key - intelligent access fob and push button start. have the fancy features on cars been rushed to market without making sure they operate dependably first and without technicians trained to understand them and fix them? *tr
My 2011 ford edge currently has 59000 miles on it. the door ajar light will not go off. i have taken it to the dealership to be checked out. they said it was not covered in warranty and that there is a tsb on it- tsb-14-0083. apparently this is a common issue. i am not able to lock my doors properly in the vehicle. my alarm will randomly go off in the middle of the night because its sensing that the door is open when it isn't. i will not pay to have this replaced when it is very evident that this is a "known issue" as my service advisor told me. this needs to be recalled because of the safety issues that are presented when you can't lock your doors. *tr
The 'door ajar' warning light will not turn off when all doors are closed (particulary occurs when entering the driver door). *tr
Upon entering the 2011 ford edge i closed the drivers side door and the door ajar light came on after i started the car. i opened and closed the drivers side door several times to no avail. i pushed the ok button on the steering wheel and tried to open and close the drivers side door and the light went off. this happens about 3-5 times a week. *tr
I get a door ajar warning when the door is actually closed; the lights won't go off, nor the doors lock. i feel very unsafe with the doors not being able to lock. plus it doesn't help the battery life much either. *tr
The driver side door ajar light stays on .with the light on, the door is not locked when you are driving. this then becoming a safety concern. after much research i am finding out this as been an on going problem for quite some time, and ford has done doing nothing to fix the problem. *tr
For the third time the "driver door ajar" warning light is illuminated while the door is closed and presumed locked. the dealer made repairs the first two times and now is charging me again for this third occurrence of the same issue stating they previously only cleaned the part which is now determined to need replacement. my teenager often drives this vehicle and we do not know if the driver door is closed or locked because of the defect in the warning system. it is absurd that it is not covered under my extended warranty as the salesman told me it was at time of purchase. *tr
